Train Ride Gone Wild Not Clickbait (Charles/Tommis/Ask)
|
Post by Charles Brynlee on Feb 7, 2019 13:08:51 GMT
Normally, whenever Charles goes to visit his dear daughter, he usually would drive to her place by car. It's a little more convenient, as far as scheduling things goes, and he could listen to all the music he wants without feeling like he's disturbing anyone or being crowded in the usual subways that go around the city. Of course though, sometimes life doesn't work out that way. His car was a bit on the old side, and was a little broken down; though he could fix it on his own time with the right parts, he still had the visit the two had scheduled then! Thus, when he went to visit her, he had taken the subway train - and just as one would expect, he would take it back home.
Which is what brought him to here. He would be at Shibuya's subway station, sitting on a bench at one of the platforms, waiting for the subway to arrive. Unusually, it was noticably quiet and empty - he seemed to be the only person here, when normally such places were bustling. Of course, he could always chalk it up to it being when most people were at work, but... He still expected to see at least a handful of other people milling about, waiting for their ride. Yet not a single soul was anywhere within sight, nor could he hear anything beyond the distant echoes of the occasional intercom system.
At first, he thought maybe he was late, or too early, for the next arriving train - but... He would check his watch and the schedules listed on one of the far walls of the platform to confirm that, no, it should be arriving any minute now. Huhm. "Slow day, I suppose." Charles mused to himself, adjusting his kimono the slightest bit and checking his bag - digging out his phone and turning it on to look it over. Though his age sometimes made his eyes hurt to stare at the screen for too long, he still liked to check things like the news on it every so often to kill time - and kill time he did, as he waited for the subway to arrive.
And indeed, before long, he would hear the distant telltale rattle of the nearing train. Charles would check his watch to see how much time had passed since then as the ride pulled up to the platform - not as long as he thought; the train was a little early, even - as he made to get up. He'd grunt softly - stiff joints didn't do him many favors, no matter how much he exercised these days - and made for the train as the doors opened up, stepping onto one of the cars. It was then though, that he noticed...
... Even the train was empty.
Now this was maybe getting a bit weirder; it was like he had entered a ghost town, with how desolate everything was... He could hear the intercom announcing in that familiar feminine-yet-electronic tone when the train was about to depart, but no living peoples, no footsteps or talking or anything... Frowning faintly to himself, keeping his phone on hand, he'd sit down, debating whether to text his daughter - or anyone, really - though... He'd decide to at least pop her a text to ask her about what she might want for her birthday, given that it was nearing.
With that, he'd sit down on one of the empty seats of the train and patiently wait - supposing it wouldn't hurt to put on some simple jazz on his phone as he waited for the train to move on to his stop.

Oh gosh, he'd caught the wrong train again hadn't he? Tommis was 100% sure he was lost by this point, or well, he was sure he was late an hour or so ago. He wasn't use to all this modern technology the folk of Shibuya used but, he was sure fascinated by it. Sadly, his interested in such things didn't mean he knew how to use him. This was fourth attempt as using google maps in Japan, and usually, he'w done fine but, if he was being honest, speaking Japanese was a lot easier then reading it and he was still very rusty from what he'd been writing it as a kid.
Tommis had been meaning to pick up some kinda package for Mom, sadly the post office was half away across the city meaning he wasn't working there and like hell was Mom taking him. So, train it was, the problem was he had no idea when was the last he'd even been their, causing well, issues. Tommis wasn't one to panic! Of course not, he was fine, this was fine. But he just couldn't help but note the lack of people on this car of all things. It was empty, dead quiet, and Tomiis didn't know how to feel, but, freaking out wasn't the answer after all.
"Can't blame anyone else but myself for this one." He'd just sigh to himself. "Whatever I've ended up probably leaves to nowhere or somethin, maybe that's why no ones on? Ay? ...Well, I can hope." He shrugged to himself, thinking maybe he should get up and look around. "Could check the next cart, maybe folk choose to sat elsewhere today, maybe I just stank the place up, hahaha.." He chuckled softly to himself, as he started to move from his seat and beyond his own space.
He'd stick his head in the first car in front of him. "...And nothin'." He noted, his accent strong through is words. Luckily, Tommis didn't looked as he sounded, not right know at least, and he was dressed in reasonably semi-formal, his school kinda expecting him to. He'd just scratch the back of his head for a moment, swearing he could hear something from the next cart of this one. "...Is..Is that Jazz?" He'd ask no one as he started to walk again to the last cart.
And, last, but not least he'd found someone, bingo! He gave a small grin as he approached the older man in a kimono, trying to be polite as possible. "Uh, I hate to be a real big bother for ya Mr but, would ya know were I'd be ay right now? I appear to of gotten myself lost, and I don't think my ma would appreciate such, heh." He said in a friendly tone.

Charles would've nearly dozed off on the train, listening to jazz, when he heard someone else step into the car and address him! The old man blinked, and glanced over to see... A nice-looking young man, it seemed! The semi-formal dressing didn't match up to his rather casual way of speaking and tone, though he was otherwise quite polite and friendly - which put a smile on Charles' face. "Oh, you're no trouble at all, young man." He'd respond warmly, mentioning "This is Line B - where are you headed, if I may ask? I've spent a good handful of years here - I could point you in the right direction if you need it." He'd turn off the jazz as he made the offer, idly pulling up the maps app on his own phone as he prepared to give Tommis some directions.
As he did so though, he'd remember the rather desolate state of the train - no one to be seen - and would glance around a little. Nope, he didn't hear anyone else beyond the young man right here, nor did he see anyone else... He guessed it was just them - which was still quite bizarre... "By the way, you wouldn't happen to have seen anyone at the platform or in any of the other cars, would you?" Charles would finally decide to ask, glancing over to Tommis. "It seems like we're the only two on this train, which... Is a bit odd, if I'll be honest. Usually this train is packed like sardines, 'round this time, haha!" He'd laugh a little, trying to joke around a tiny bit and lighten the mood and any sense of unease - though it was still apparent that this was quite unusual for the station. Charles couldn't recall the last time he'd seen a barren train, in the middle of the day like this!

Tommis's face would feature into a smile as the old man responded positively to him, Tommis glad he was making a good impression of all things. He was even happier when he'd offer to show him where to go! Maybe all this mindless bumbling about wasn't a total waste of time after all? "Oh that's good! Didn't want to bother ya and all that! Ya see, I'm tryin' to find the main Shibuya postal hub! But I think I got a bit lost." He explained, laughing a bit as his own foolishness as he scratched the top of his head. "See, the thing is I only moved to Japan a while back." He continued. "Can speak Japanese pretty well, but my readin' skills are a bit lacklustre, can't remember the last time I'd been doin' it." He said openly.
Tommis was almost a bit glad when Charles brought up the emptiness of the whole place. Thought he could only shake his head in answering the poor old man. "Know that ya mentioned it? Nope, not a single person in sight, this is all pretty weird if ya ask me, like this entire thing is just giving me weird vibes ya know?" He asked, hands shovelled into his pockets. "Though maybe I'm just overthinkin' this one, can't be that bad right?" He questioned him lightly, wondering if he could take his own question as harmlessly as he was putting it down.

Charles would nod in understanding "Ah, I understand that feeling completely; I remember when my wife had to help me - moved here from Tennessee many years back, and I barely spoke or knew a lick of Japanese then, beyond what I learned from her!" He'd muse with a warm, nostalgic chuckle. "Probably doesn't help that the postal hub is a bit hole-in-the-wall at first though; at the very least, it's not too far from where I live. This line'll take you decently close by, even if it's a little bit of a walk." Charles would gesture for Tommis to sit with him, and bring up the map to show the young man the way on his phone - and as if on queue, the intercom would pipe up about the train being about to depart soon "If you'd like, I could walk with you there to help show you the way, once we reach the stop. Goodness knows I learn directions better from experience, than instructions, heh."
As Tommis mentioned having not seen anyone either though, Charles would hum - his expression not necessarily becoming grim or serious, but certainly less lackadaisical about all of this. "Strange, isn't it..." He'd muse out loud - more to himself than anything - but would sigh and shake his head. "I suppose it's just one of those days, though; always a first for everything." Charles was perhaps just as clueless as Tommis was - though he didn't see any potential danger. If something was terribly wrong, the train wouldn't be running in the first place, right? "I'm still used to seeing at least a handful other people on this train, though... I suppose it's a good thing I've got a polite young man such as yourself to talk to on the way there, hm?" Charles would smile warmly over to Tommis - clearly enjoying having some company, as opposed to the quiet solitude of before, before Tommis had arrived here.

Tommis's eyes would lit up as he mentioned that he wasn't from Japan, while he was grateful to meet so many new people here, he could help but feel a bit more connected with this man who two, was from Amercia. "Ay! Another America fellow!I came from Texas if the accent doesn't make it anymore oblivious." He laughed, his grin wide. "While I am half Japanese, Half American, grew up in the USA for most for my life." He admitted. "Ah, so it's just naturally hard to find huh? Geez, it's hard enough to not knock my head into door frames due to my large size and know ya telling me we gotta go snooping for mailbox?" He joked. "Imma living a tough life I tell ya."
He'd take a seat near the older man as he'd talk, hands resting on his knees as he did so. "If I'm honest? A bit creeped out by how empty it is, like this ain't feeling natural at all, but alas like you said, probably nothing to worry about." He nodded. He burned up red when Charles complimented, muttering to himself as he grabbed the back of his head. "Aw shucks, It's been a real good ol' pleasure meeting ya to sir!" He smiled as he noted something. "Speaking of which - I rudely never asked ya name, mine name his Tommis, Tommis Richardson." He beamed, hand held out for his to shake despite how silly he realised this may of looked sitting down but, oh well, who cared.

Charles would smile and nod in acknowledgement as he listened to Tommis talk about his origins - Texas, huh? He suppose that'd indeed explain the accent; Charles chuckled gently, and would respond "I myself am fully American, though I do got a bit of Welsh in me somewhere; though my daughter is half n' half like you. You look like you'd be pretty close to her age, too; she's just a couple years older." Ah- maybe he was rambling a bit; Charles would blink a little at Tommis' joke regarding his height, and that would elicit a full laugh, "Pftahaha, oh- someone who shares my bitter rivalry with doorframes...! You do look to be pretty close to my height, now that I look at you..." Charles remarked, before adding teasingly "You better be done growing now, or I'm gonna have competition!"
It wasn't long after Tommis sat down, that the doors to the train would close, and it would begin to move. Charles would hum softly, leaning back in his seat- smiling over to Tommis as the boy got flustered over the compliment. Such a nice fellow, Charles was glad to know that the youth these days still had a good heart in em, and a good head on their shoulders. "Ah, it's no fault of your's- I should've introduced myself, too," He'd respond casually, chuckling and taking the handshake. "My name is Charles Brynlee, though some of my friends like to call me Charlie; either's fine with me." His handshake was firm and relatively strong; even if he was an old man, it was clear he had a strong grip. "How long have you been in Shibuya for, Tommis? If it's alright to ask, that is."

Tommis would sit and listen as Charles mentioned his family, the young man excited to jump in and ramble about his own family, or well maybe just Charlie. "Oh that's nice! Maybe one day I could meet ya daughter! If she's as nice as you are I'm sure we will get along just fine!" He chuckled. "I livin' with my Ma if I hadn't mentioned her in many times in my rambling, but also got my younger sister Charlie running around! She's 12 know and gosh she's growing big, thought hoping not as big as me, we don't need another hunched shoulder." He laughed. "I am a big man, your a big man, we've both stopped growing and I don't want anymore competition if my life, the only thing I want is have a swore-three back." He winked, continuing with the joking.
As the trained started to move again, he'd get comfy he guessed, moving around a bit before he found a position he was okay with. He was glade when he took the hand, and have him a firm yet warm grip when he took it. "Oh well would look at that!" He said surprised at his name. "Ya share my lil sister's name, ay? Oh how she'll get a kick outta that Mr Charles!" He laughed hard, slapping his hand on his knee. He looked back up at Mr Charles as he spike. "I've been living here for around a year or so, been since well uh..." His voice softened a bit, it still hurt to bring the loss of his father up but, he was much more well kept about then he was at first. "...My father passed away, not long ago but, just need to keep my head up! New life, new country! New friends to make!" He said, trying to sound cheery. He seemly wasn't to afraid to share this information at a stranger, he'd already mourned, he'd already tried to move on. He was okay with this.

"Oh, certainly; she's got a good heart like you, though she does have a bit of a penchant for mischief - and god knows I can just barely keep up with her energy these days," Charles would laugh gently, "Though she moved out on her own with her girlfriend not too long ago, so it's pretty quiet at home nowadays." It wasn't too much of a secret that his daughter swung both ways, so he imagined it'd be harmless to mention it to Tommis; especially since it seemed kids these days were all about visibility and acceptance. It was endearing, really, seeing how eager they were to forge their own place in life; and he sometimes wondered how he could lend a hand in it. Though, he was getting off topic- "It sounds like being big runs in the family for you, hm?" Charles chuckled with a smile, "Maybe enough people, and we can fight back against the dreaded doorframes!"
Charles would laugh heartily with Tommis at the mention of sharing a name with his sister though, finding the coincidence quite hilarious, to say the least. "Small world, I suppose!" He'd chirp with a warm smile; and would grin gently as he listened to Tommis talk about how long he'd been around here for, though.... As the mood began to shift with the mention of his father having passed away, Charles' expression would somber out some. He certainly knew how it felt to feel loss. It's... certainly not a walk in the park, he knew that much. It tended to leave a hole in your chest that sometimes took a long time to fill in. As Tommis tried to be more positive, Charles would quietly nod his agreement - but would reach over and place a hand on Tommis' shoulder. "... Pardon me for saying this, though... Speaking as an old geezer with experience, moving on from loss can be hard, and not everyone can move on completely; but... That's okay. It's good that you're trying to stay positive; dwelling isn't healthy, either - and real life moves on regardless... But it's also okay if you still need some time, or if you still miss him. Too many times I've found myself missing my own parents, or my wife."
Quietly, Charles would glance to his free hand - peering to the simple wedding ring, before glancing over to Tommis and offering him a somber smile. "Things take time, sometimes a lot of time. It's okay to take your time with this, too, as long as you don't let it control your life."

"She sounds lovely! I'd love to meet her one day." He laughed. "She founds like she knows her stuff when it comes to fun aswell, thought I just hope that fun stays safe law-wise." He said, hands running through his hair. Tommis could of cared less about which way this older man's daughter swung, not only was it really none of his business in the main scheme of things but well, Tommis was a queer man himself. If anything he was happy to hear that another person such as himself found happiness. "Well it's good to hear someone has a good love life." Tommis smiled. "I don't really think I have a time nor am I mentally prepared enough for a romantic relationship right know." He simply put it, shrugging. "I'm big, my Pa was big, Charles's big, and Ma isn't that small either, especially not for Japanese woman, we are a family of big." He laughed. "One day my friend we could raise an army."
The tone had pretty much died down to something less then pleasant, and Tommis felt somewhat guilty for it, but it was nice to hear Charles supporting words. "I really go appreciate ya words mate, means a lot to me, still hurting a bit but I'm making it through the pain, I'm surviving." Tommis would be one to be open about most things most of the time, but he was slightly well, lying through his ass. Tommis wasn't doing okay, fuck, he was taking medication to make him even considering the condition of feeling okay. But it wasn't this nice old man's job to make him feel better. It wasn't the man's job to be Tommis's therapist or make him feel better, or be the one to fix him. But he really did feel touched by what he was doing.
"..Yeah, ya just gotta try and sit down, and try and just, keeping ya know, not let theses things get ya down." Tommis said nodding, completely contradicting everything that he was doing himself right know.

"Oh most certainly. When she was still growing, we taught her to be mindful of rules; She knew she'd be in big trouble if she ever ran afoul of the law." Charles mentioned, before continuing on a more humorous note "Though she does still have a tendency for harmless mischief, and the occasional party; heavens knows that April Fools was her holiday, when we were back in Tennessee!" He'd chuckle gently; thinking to some of the pranks she would pull each year. Bizarre and puzzling was her methodology when it came to these things when she was still a tyke, as opposed to the more distressing and harmful pranks you would sometimes see on the internet these days. Sure, she's sort of outgrown it - but she still liked cracking jokes and getting laughs out of people.
As far as Tommis' own lovelife and family went, Charles would quietly nod - smiling a bit. "I got my own height from my father, personally; though both my wife and my daughter were more average-height, even if the kiddo's trending more to the taller end of it." He'd comment gently, before chuckling at the mental image of an army of tall people going on a vendetta against doorframes. Ah, one day indeed.
And indeed, it wasn't Charles' job to make Tommis feel better or to play therapist, but... He certainly knew that loss wasn't easy - and that he himself needed to learn the lesson he told Tommis, once. He didn't catch onto Tommis lying about how he felt, and instead nodded and smiled gently to the encouraging words the young man said instead. "That's the spirit; it may take good bit of elbow grease, but you'll get there, kiddo." He'd say simply with a comforting smile, figuring that Tommis himself would speak up if he really wanted to talk more on this.
Instead, assuming that Tommis didn't continue this topic, he'd glance to the window - peering at the passing lights of the subway. "Our stop shouldn't be too long, now..." He'd mention; though would trail off and blink a little at a faint feeling of static, the hairs on his arms standing up. He'd take a second to rub his forearms, before chuckling, though...
... then he'd glance up, out thru the window, once more. And what he saw was beyond any imaginable explanation he could consider at the moment.
No longer was the passing lights of a subway tunnel, but instead the sun shining down - the light diffusing thru the windows. The scenery beyond was an open grasslands, rolling onward as far as the eye could see, with a clear blue sky. It was like they were in the middle of the countryside now, nowhere near Shibuya - though the subway only ran within Shibuya City, so...
... "... I must be going senile already..." Charles breathed, shaking his head and sitting back down properly, "I'm not the only one seeing this, right??" To be frank, he was too confused and puzzled to be unsettled - this was, well, anything beyond his understanding - and so he figured rapid onset senility would the best explanation for what he was seeing, if Tommis didn't see the grasslands outside like he did. And if the young man did? Well... Then that'd be definite cause for concern.

"Well it's good to see she's got a good head on her shoulders." He laughed. "While Charlie is a nice gal she's been having... Trouble... At school lately..." He sighed, thought his smile still kept clear-cut. "Kids can be kinda mean, especially to things they ain't understanding, and a new exchange student with a funny accent is a prime example for that. Really not impressed with the school either ay, they don't seem to be doing anythin'." He said, shaking his head. He can remember the notable times the young gal would come home crying, somethings from being hurt by others, something by hurt others herself, thought she usually claimed self defence, and Tommis bias was naturally on her side.
Tommis would lend a smile to the man as he talked about trying to not give up and he'd just nod. But as he'd turn to face the other way, the light in his eyes would die, just a bit, as he placed his face in his hands and moved them through his eyes and his hair. Keep your cool Tommis, keep your cool. "You just gotta... Keep going yeah..." He said attempting to agree. "Thought, while I do try to keep me head up, I do get help, with medication 'n' such." He admitted, patting down on his bag at his side.
"I hope we can get off 'ere soon honestly." He chuckled. "While trains are nice and all, I'm an outdoor kinda guy, don't like indoor spaces for long periods of time." He continued, thought he stopped as a wave of well, something washed over him. He'd blink a bit as he felt something weird pass through, a faint sesne of static, something he couldn't explain but not something to fear or be afraid of, just weird. He was quick to squint a bit as he peaked out the window, himself left completely breathless.
"....Ay..."
"...This ain't the bloody mail place is it?"
He didn't know who he was asking, himself? Charles? Someone? Anyone?
It fields of grassy planes, a beautiful crystal skies of blue, if this had any other point in time, if this had been anything else, Tommis would of been at home. He'd remember living in a lush place such as this. But this wasn't it, this wasn't home, this didn't make any bloody sesne, and he didn't know what to make of it. All he could so was hold his breath and contuine to watch as they past all theses things, unexplained things. "Y-you ain't goin' made Mr Charles sir, or, if you ya then then something in this train must be broken and leakin' something inside cause I am seeing, things, sir.."
"...And I'm not sure what to make of it... Sir.." He gulped.

Charles would nod in acknowledgement - before sighing softly. "Kids especially have a hard time with things that are too different, from what I've seen." He'd agree - casting Tommis a sympathetic gaze. "I hope things pan out for your sister; has your mother talked to the school at all?" He'd ask gently, faintly wondering to himself which school it was - and whether it was the one that his own daughter had gone to, when she was younger. She didn't exactly fit the look of being Japanese, despite being half-japanese; and so he recalled when there were kids who'd tease her, too, sometimes way back when.
Nonetheless though, Tommis' reluctance in his initial agreement, and the mention of medication, would cause Charles to give the younger man a concerned look. He would be quiet for a few moments, before finally nodding - supposing this wasn't his business to prod in any further. Personally, he wasn't sure if medicine should really be the answer to everything - especially grief of all things, that's something that should be left to time - though he also trusted that Tommis knew what he was doing, in handling his issues.
On the subject of the outdoors and trains, though... "Aheh, I can certainly see why; you seem like a pretty active young man, if you'll pardon my observations." Charles would remark with an understanding nod, adding "Do you take walks a lot? I know a handful of nice places in Shibyua you could stop by, if any of them are within walking distance of your place." He'd offer, adding "I myself sometimes like stopping by one of the parks on an occasion, for some fresh air."
And then, finally, was the... interesting change of scenery.
He'd glance over to Tommis - the young man seeming just as confused as he was, and perhaps nervous as well; the subway didn't go out into an open field, that much was for sure. Which only left the questions of, how did they end up here? What was going on? How were they going to get back?
Charles would sigh sharply, shaking his head and rubbing his temples - before glancing down to his phone. But it seemed he wasn't going to get much out of it, either. The signal and battery indicators were on the fritz, fluctuating between max and nada - and any attempts to text or call either ended in a failed text, or static on the other line. The screen, too, was having some issues - which made it difficult to read things as he browsed thru the contacts list. "What in the world..." He'd mutter to himself, before glancing back out to the window - seeing that they were coming up on what seemed to be some sort of city; but just a glance was enough to tell this wasn't Shibuya.
Charles would - with a grunt - stand up, a hand on the handlebars that hung from the ceiling for support as he stared out the windows, murmuring to Tommis "Well... Suppose that we'll get off at wherever this takes us?"
"See where in the world we've ended up?"
It certainly was the only idea that came to him, given that his phone wasn't working properly... Hopefully, wherever they ended up, there was a way they could turn back around...

"I used to walk at the farm ya see." He explained. "Lots of animals to take care of, plants to harvest and take care of and overall, lotta stuff you gotta carryin' around, which lotta muscle develops with it." He said, giving on of his rather well-build arms a slap. "And being that's all I ever really known, just a bit well, I just feel a bit silly out ere. A tall country bogan really shouldn't be in a prime proper place like that, but, I am, and, I gotta learn to adapted ya know?" He shrugged. As the older man mentioned other places he could go, he scratch the back of his head and nodded, his smile calm. "Yeah that'd be nice thanks, like just sorta greenery would be nice, least I'd fee; some kinda resemblance of home." He sighed.
As the sight had changed from the normal everyday city landscape to some form of, well, countryside, all he could do was squint, frowning. He had to be on something yeah? This made no bloody sense, whatsoever! Was... He actually high? Was he on something? He'd just rub his eyes as his rather small brain size struggled to put any of this together and why it was happening. ...Maybe it was the medication he was taking?! He gulped as he started to rampaging through his bag and find the small capsule. He would take a moment as his eyes adjusted to the small font written on the back, hoping this would be some of explanation to his seemly current insanity.
Annnnd nothing, he just, sighed, the medication did nothing of the sort. Meaning he probably was some form of crazy here, him and Charles both maybe. "Uhh, do ya think ya might even sightly know where this may take us, sir? Hate to sound like a bit of a downer 'ere but, really not sure what to think of all this. It's a bit of mixed mood from me right know." He admitted, slicking loose strands of hair behind his ear.
"Cause if neither of us have a darn idea where this may be, I'm gonna be a bit worried about well, gettin' home."

Charles would chuckle as Tommis described his homelife, working at a farm with animals, and plants, and things to carry around. "I can certainly relate, albeit not to the same degree." Charles would admit. "I used to work as a mechanic, myself; self employed, whilst my wife and I lived in a simple house in a smaller quiet town. Far less hustle and bustle - far fewer incidents to hear about on the news." He spoke, thinking back to growing up in that quaint little Tennessee town.
"I still sometimes fix up peoples' cars as an odd job, but it's still quite different in the city, even if I've gotten used to it with time. I can certainly understand why you'd want to find even small reminders of home; I sometimes find myself seeking out a bit of nostalgia, myself." Charles glanced over to Tommis with a warm, understanding smile. "Perhaps when you get to where you can drive as you please, you could try taking a trip out to some of the smaller towns and villages, out there in Japan? It wouldn't be the same, but I imagine it'd be a breath of fresh air to you; to get away from the noise and chaos of the city."
As far as the change in scenery beyond went though, it seemed that Tommis was checking his medicine. Certainly, some medicine did affect perception - though Charles had a feeling that someone would've said something if the side effects were this strong, and it seemed that Tommis was on the same page - if the sigh was anything to go by.
"Sadly, I'm just as clueless as you are." Charles would respond to Tommis' question; watching the grassland beyond began to shift to what looked to be a city that they were entering; though it certainly wasn't any sort of city he was familiar with. "As far as I know, the subway doesn't even leave Shibuya; let alone on the first stop, so this is all new to me." He'd begin, adding "Though I imagine if we get off at whatever the next stop is, that we can ask around some, and figure out where we are now."
With Tommis' worry about getting home though, Charles would glance to the younger man - and gently pat his shoulder with a reassuring smile, a certain protective and fatherly hue in his tone as he mentioned "I'm sure if we got here in the first place, then we'll be able to get back in some similar fashion. I'll stick by your side until I know we'll both be getting home safe, though."
