Akihabara. The El Dorado of Otaku Culture. A place where people walked around in cosplay without shame. Young people dressed up as a myriad of recognizable characters, chatting and posing for photos. Among them walked one figure no one could place, however. 6'6" tall, a woman clad in strange, black attire, with red hair, a weird visor over her eyes, and both wings and horns. Was this from a weird, obscure Kamen Rider season? Was this some sort of Super Sentai villain? No one was sure. They only knew that her costume was very well made. Or was it a costume? Anyone who was familiar with the Digital World would recognise this woman as a subspecies of Fairymon, a fiercer, scrappier version which borrowed features from the Demon of the Deep Forest itself, GranKuwagamon. What was a Digimon like that doing here, out in the open?
Inside the Digimon's head, two voices resided. One, rough and enthusiastic, said: "Hohohohohho, oh holy shit this is great, i told ya this would work! No one here bats an eyelid!" The other, soft and timid, answered: "B-b-b-but...I am s-s-still unsure about this." It had been another one of Otohime's hare-brained schemes. She insisted that now that she could Spirit Evolve, she should use this power to help people, as a sort of superhero. Her Spirit Sprite, Jiro, was unsure about a Digimon just walking the streets, but relented when Otohime suggested they tried it out in "Nerdtown". So far, so good. They were there. Now all they needed was a situation to hero in.
Humans were funny little creatures, weren't they? It was deathly-amusing for Tamamizu to be walking amongst them without any of them the wiser... They really were ignorant of a whole world of possibilities! Instead, they endulge in the realms of fantasy; ignorant of the existence that a power greater than them existed. Still, the Renamon X was considering this little visit to the human world a success...
Amidst the crowds of cosplaying geeks in this utopia of fictional-culture, Tamamizu in her decadent kimono was walking amongst them with a tray of... what did the vendor call it? Fried fritters? Well nonetheless, it was a delicious little human entree! She almost felt a touch guilty handing the vendor fake money... it was merely some stones and sticks she had charmed to take on the shape of the human tender. Lightly licking her fingers of delicious sugar, the vixen was smiling cheerfully watching the vast array of human sights.
They were a dull race most of them, but certainly imaginative she had to give credit! It was endlessly amusing hearing compliments on how her tails looked life-like... How adorable, really! It seemed however she was not the only Digimon that had the idea of infiltrating this human convention... spotting a uniquely-garbed Fairimon in the crowd, the Rookie stealthily stalked up from behind with an impish grin. As soon as she'd get near, she lightly poked at the girl's back with one of her tails. "Well, how do you do fellow human... ~ Enjoying the view I suppose?"
No one bats an eyelid, huh? NO ONE BATS AN EYELID? Otohime was right in trying this out in Nerdtown, sure, but you know who LURKED Nerdtown? Toriya Naoko and her two royal dinguses, Titania and Nereid (the royal shipper). Of course, the latter two were in their holosuits. Titania's was dubiously shorter than Nereid, though.
Other than that, it was two blondes and their tall, blue-haired friend hanging around in Akibahara. Yet, Titania took notice of the abnormally tall human and the weird...thing in a kimono. "...Well, uh. That certainly looks perplexi-" She began, before she felt Nereid shove past her. "Reid!" The fairy-in-disguise protested as the clam-in-disguise went over to the largest things she saw.
...Meanwhile, Naoko, who was browsing a stand, looked up at Titania calling her child's name. Then she looked around for Reid and saw the BlackFairymon. It looked like something she had only seen in the Digital World before but...she had to be sure. So, Naoko went to approach as well. Nereid got there first, though!
"Hi, I really like your choices of attire!" ...The girl had no clue who she was talking to.
And so, not just one, but two people talked to her! One was a cute girl, the other was...is that a fox? Like, the one at the temple Teach was at? Naaaah, can't be! No one's so stupid to walk around without a disguise! She first turned around to the fox, smiling. "Greetings, citizen! Lovely day, is it not? The view is indeed lovely! If you see anything out of the ordinary, do tell me!" Then she turned towards Nereid. "Haha, thank you, young girl! What a nice place this is!" The speech was hilariously stilted, and sounded strangely filtered. But Naoko could recognise the voices from where she was: It was Otohime's and Jiro's voices, overlayered into a deep contralto.
Most Digimon wouldn't be caught dead in the human world out in the open without some manner of disguise... but Tamamizu was not like most Digimon. There was a sense of tension with walking amidst a race that didn't even know about your true nature that tickled Tamamizu's fancy. Was it dumb? Sure, maybe... but Tamamizu didn't have much to lose really.
"Oh, don't worry dear... I already see something unusual! Should I report yourself to you, or would that be perhaps poor form?" the fox giggled impishly, cupping her hands as her twin tails flicked about. She was not exactly being subtle about this, but that was part of the fun! She eyed Nereid, instantly recognizing that it was just a holosuit... the girl just smelled too fishy to be human after all. Not even a fishmonger was this fishy-smelling. "So did you have seafood recently, or are you just the seafood?"
Oh these people are hilarious! Glad she went out of the way coming here!
"Hey, that's not very nice! She's a perfectly normal..." ...The bug lady looked a bit like her mom. Nereid gulped. "...Kamen rider thing with a weird voice changer." That was all she managed to get in before Naoko (and Titania) caught up. The former looked at Otohime for all of five seconds before she just went, "...Ryuko, what the heck are you doing?" It was a hell of a shot in the dark, but she was also going off of what she recalled from that day in the Dark Area involving the spirits.
Nereid was also ignoring the hell out of Naoko, and also seemed quite oblivious to Titania looming behind her. She just stared up at the Renamon. "...I mean...I do like fish. Though, I must ask...Are you going to try stealing my food? Going after my grapes?"
Otohime was taken aback, both by Tama's reaction, and the sudden appearance of Naoko of all people! "Shit shit shit, what do I do???", Otohime asked her Spritr Spirit within her mind. "W-w-well, this is more than suboptimal!", said spirit replied. "J-j-j-just do what first comes to mind!" The Fairimon cleared her throat. "I...would not know what you mean, citizen! And neither do I know an Otohime! I am Gran Kuwaga Mask, the protector of the innocent!" She struck a very Super Sentai-esque pose. The Wormmon in her mind facepalmed. "That...was not what I had in mind..."
Oh? Another Digimon? It actually took Tamamizu to identify Titania as one… how do you even give wind a scent anyways? Every Digimon had a scent to Tamamizu, each smelling just a tad differently… Of course, the Renamon X’s concentration was ruined at Nereid’s own question as a puzzled look could be seen even in Tamamizu’s obscured eyes. “Hmm? Grapes? Oh, no grapes? Darn; gave me false hopes. I was hoping to get poisoned today at least once. Foxes are close enough to dogs, no?”
She was actually quite serious about that one… she always wanted to see the insides of a human hospital! It wasn’t as if grapes actually could harm her, but feigning an allergy and spooking some humans sounded like a fun way of ending the day!
Well, self-induced fainting aside… Honestly, this Fairimon was absolutely charming! It was not often that she was out-weirded in the visual and persona department after all! They had a cute little superhero scheme going on, and frankly it probably would be convincing if you weren’t a Digimon. The tall-ish blue-haired girl seemed familiar with them enough… Wonder what their relationship was? Nonetheless, the self-denial was a treat to see; the fox turned to Naoko and giggled impishly “Oh she is just a peach, isn’t she? Does she belong to you by chance?”
Subtlety was not exactly the Rookie’s style after all.
She soon turned back to the Fairimon, her masked smile immediately to a more blank and dull expression… the most serious the Renamon X has been this entire conversation. She crossed her arms as she frowned, her tails flicking about curiously. “Anyways; adorable premise you have there darling, but you make me look like a master spy in comparison. Any remotely competent Digimon could sniff you out in a heartbeat if you just go around flaunting your Champion level like that. Miss oceanbreeze and swallowtail here at least have the common sense of having some holo-suits, and I am only a Rookie. Its like advertising to more unscrupulous Digimon hello world, please come kick my ass and load me!”
"Come on, let us out, please? They won't notice us..."
"No. It's against protocol, Noir"
A young looking blonde woman was walking among the crowd gathered here. Dressed in smart business-like clothes and wearing sunglasses, her hair tied up in a ponytail, she was here on a mission.
'Machine better be right about this one... if it's just a kid in an outfit again I'll bring down hell on him' she thought to herself. Though, the fact that there seemed to be digimon here was a valid possibility. The fact that so many others were dressed in a similar way was a fair enough cover for them to come out.
It was unusual for digimon to be here in Akihabara anyway. Most of them were in Shibuya, at least that's what the agent knew. Still, now that she was here, she would make a short patrol up and down the streets nearby. And if the digimon within her device detected any nearby? Well... she supposed she would cross that bridge when she came to it.
An open arrest and challenge would be dangerous, especially in a crowded street such as this. So for now she would merely watch and wait to act. "Ma'am, I detect something" a voice within her digivice stated, different to the voice from before. "But... there's something strange about their signals. One's definitely a digimon though".
"Thank you, Blanc" said the agent. "Any numbers?"
"Four so far".
"I see..." the Agent would then raise a headset to one ear, activating it. "Agent Maria reporting. Four suspects detected in Akihabara. Please advise".
"Do you have visual?" a stern voice answered.
"Not yet, sir. But we suspect holosuits are involved".
"Very well. Track them for now, keep me informed. Over".
With that, Agent Maria would eventually approach the location where the others were gathering, maintaining a brisk walking pace.
Nereid looked at Tamamizu skeptically for a few moments. "But getting poisoned's kind of bad...You don't seem like the kind of person who deserves bad things. Just a furred...person." How innocent the little clam-in-disguise was.
The fairy, her daughter, and Naoko had zero clue they were under surveillance right now. But, alas, they each had their own things to be doing at present! Naoko stared Otohime down for a good few moments. Kuwaga Mask? Really? The girl leaned in and whispered, "...I'll play along, but...come on. That's a bad disguise..."
Then Tamamizu stole her attention. Uh. Was the Fairymon hers? "...I mean, um...I know her? But that's a bit..." Holy crap, that was an embarrassing question to just be asked. And as if this wasn't already obvious enough? Naoko was surrounded by 3 (and Otohime) digimon. Two undisguised and two disguised.
"...So why don't you have a holosuit then? Is there a convention near here? It's kind of...I dunno. Hypocritical to say that to her while not practicing it yourself..." Nereid suddenly inquired, before Titania quickly spoke up. "Reid, again. That's rude. And...Who are you?" The fairy pointed at the fox. "I don't recall foxes having the stones to hang around here undisguised...And Ryuko, if you want I can teach you how to work on the whole hero thing later."
...This was all pretty telling. Now if only the three knew that Maria (and her twin posse) were right behind them.
Otohime was, of course, utterly unaware that she was being watched, right now she puffed her cheeks over Tama's assertion that her gig was "bad". Puffed cheeks were cute and all, but looked strange on a 7ft tall muscular Fairimon with giant bug traits. "Look, this is a...uh...Spirit form it was called, yes.", she whispered towards the fox. "I am not *trying* to stay hidden, I wanna use this power I gained for the good of people, I wanna be a hero!" She repeated this to Naoko, then nodded. She promptly struck another Kamen Rider pose. "This place is full of scoundrels! Pickpockets, perverts, rabblerousers! I am here to keep them all in check, as a Champion of Justice would do!" Deep inside BlackFairymon, Jiro was screaming in agony.
You know, when she was saying how she’d love to be poisoned… she was not actually expecting sympathy. A genuine look of confusion appeared in the Renamon X’s eyes as she lifted the mask covering up, their bestial fox-ish face staring at Nereid with an unsure look. ”... Dear, I deserve all the bad things that happen to me. Tis the fate of monsters.” the fox spoke in a different voice unlike the gleefully mischievous tone she had prior… just briefly.
She very quickly slipped the mask back on, cursing herself. The hell that come from?Ugh, nonsense. Tamamizu did not have a conscience… she was Tamamizu, the avatar of chaos! Tamamizu didn’t feel guilt!
At least that was what she told herself.
Nonetheless, Tamamizu could only roll her eyes at the absurd display this Fairimon was presenting… Spirit wielder or not, it was frankly childish. Where was the fun in all that justice crap anyway? “Pfft. Pickpockets. Good grief, are you that paranoid of people stealing one’s belongings? I think you are just overreacting.” Tamamizu idly spoke, seemingly taking a wallet from one of her kimono’s sleeves and tossing it to Naoko. It perhaps would be very quickly obvious to Naoko that it was THEIRS, the mischievous smile on the fox’s face more or less confirming it.
It was perhaps better not to question how the fox nabbed the thing so silently and quickly… She had to keep SOME things a secret after all.
Nereid was certainly a talkative little brat… she supposed there were fallacies in her own words, but was that not the point? She couldn’t help herself; she loved living on the razor’s knife. ”Well you see young seabreeze, it is not wise to wander without a precaution or two, but I am a girl who enjoys tension... danger… bravado!” she spoke, flamboyantly motioning her arms while doing so before addressing Titania. “Heh ~ I am flattered. Call me Tamamizu, dears. Tama for short… and yes, other Renamon-line individuals are somewhat sticks-in-the-mud unlike myself. Awfully shy lot frankly… Especially that damned sister of mine. Probably still pretending to be a damn human at a monastery or something.”
She oughta check up on them sometime… Nothing like a good family visit to lighten the mood. That and she could go “neener neener” at them… though she doubted that she’d earn a reaction. That damn Sakuyamon was a tough egg to crack when wanting to get a reaction out of them. One day, she’d get her revenge… see how THEY like being a Rookie for a thousand years.
It wasn't long before Agent Maria made visual contact with the digimon in question. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. One was obviously a digimon, but the one that was posing and doing the whole anime thing... something seemed... off about them. At least according to her partners within her digivice.
The holosuited digimon were more easy for Maria to understand though. It was indeed clever technology, but DATS had long ago figured out its secrets. It was an optical illusion only, any digimon worth their salt could see through it.
"Maria, they're not hurting anyone..." Noir pointed out, gently. "All they seem to be doing is just being anime characters."
Maria acknowledged that, but still, she would go by protocol. She would communicate this to her commander. "Sir, Visual contact made. One Rookie digimon, two holosuited digimon, also probably rookie, and one... odd Champion level."
"Odd? In what way?"
"According to Blanc and Noir, the signal from this digimon seems different to others. Almost like... there's something human about them."
"Hm. I see."
"What action should be made, sir?"
"Well, we have been meaning to make an example to the digimon of Tokyo what happens when they walk around in the open like this, but, four targets in a crowded place outside of Shibuya... probably not the best place to start a fight. Give them a warning, Agent Maria, but be gentle about it. Over."
"Acknowledged, sir" Maria replied, then steeled herself for what was going to occur next. With that, the DATS Agent would approach the group, clearing her throat to announce her presence.
"You do realize that it's not very wise for digimon to be out in public like this, right?" she asked, quietly.
"...I'm pretty sure there's something in the law against vigilante justice...Though, I'm not sure considering I...haven't actually checked." Naoko mused after a brief bout of speechlessness at the...incredulity of the situation. "I mean...That's perfectly fine but should you really be out here striking poses in public in your spirit form...?"
Hell, wouldn't this be better with help? And not digivolved?
Nereid and Titania meanwhile had to continue entertaining this...capricious furry. "...I disagree. I'm a monster too but I don't think we deserve bad things." The daughter stated, evidently unaware of what Tama had meant. "Reid...Ease up. Please." Titania started for the umpteenth time, before she cleared her throat and gave the fox a nod.
"Right. While I haven't had any...good experiences with your ilk...I'm Titania. This is my daughter, Nereid. While I find your lack of...uh...What's the word..." The fairy began, before Nereid interjected. "Tact?" "No! Maybe not a lack but...Er. Your touch of derring-do. I find it a little bit charming but also kind of unsafe."
...Was she talking about the fox that dwelled at that shrine? This hadn't been the first time either Naoko or Titania heard of it...But that's a mere guess. Both of them turned towards Maria as she made herself known, and... "...Uh...She's weird." Naoko stated. Quite plainly. For both Tama and Otohime.
"...They're also not doing anything wrong, either..."
Behind her visor, Otohime frowned at Tamaimizu's comment. "Overreacting? Crime is -everywhere-, I know that! And I am here to stop it!"
And then there was Maria. Otohime had no idea who this lady was, or why she approached her. But she mentioned Digimon, which Jiro noted was suspicious. The girl began to sweat. "Eh? Digimon? What's a Digimon? I am Gran Kuwaga Mask, a superhero! I don't know what Digimon are! I only wanna keep people safe!" She did another Sentai pose for good measure. The interlacing of Jiro's and Otohime's voice did little to mask the latter's nervousness.
