[attr="class","xenica"]Xenica stepped into the old temple grounds, being situated only a few yards from the great stone entrance. The unfortunate thing was that the place seemed abandoned and decrepit - the walls were weathered and most of the statues of old Digimon were broken or completely in pieces. Vines and other plant life covered most of everything, indicating that nobody has been here in a really long time. Of course, the dark haired teenager had some suspicions about why she had came here - and if this abandoned old dungeon really contained what she was seeking within its walls.
The girl pressed a few buttons upon her mobile phone, which had been converted into a two-way long-ranged walkie talkie that could be used with one other person who had such a modification. It was limited, but at least it did what it needed to do. "Are you really sure this is it, chief? There ain't nothing around here, trust me." Silence came from the other end for a few seconds, before the device made a radio static, then an older male voice came from the reciever. "No, no, no, you need to trust me. Enter the temple, and you'll find everything that you need. Good luck, it won't be easy!" Then, once more, silence. Xenica did not bother responding immediately, instead looking up at the massive doors before her.
Stepping forward and placing a hand gently upon them, she then gave a strong push, hoping they would just swing open. Unfortunately, this was not the case. It seemed that even entering this temple would be a bit of a hassle. The teenager began looking around for something she could use to pry the door open, or better yet, some sort of mechanism that would open it. Her attention turned to limestone statue, one that was colored differently from the others. It seemed to be an idol of some sort of insectoid Digimon, but half of its arms and its head were missing.
Coming closer and investigating the idol, the crimson-eyed girl noticed that it was rather loose, and could probably be moved out of its place with a little force. She placed both hands upon the stone insect, gently moving it from the pillar that it was previously situated upon. The structure began to click and churn as if it were full of gears and moving parts, before it began to spin and retract into the earth. As the mechanical pillar did this; the massive stone gate began to slowly peel outwards, revealing the inside of the temple. "I didn't really think that'd work." The scrawny girl spoke to herself, setting the statue down carefully on the floor.
Xenica moved forward beyond the gate, making her way inside the structure. It was dark, and the walls seemed to be covered in some sort of writing that she couldn't understand. It didn't seem to be like any language from earth, that was for sure. The first room was rather larger - but simple. It consisted of a single hallway leading to an alter, behind that alter being another massive door, albeit a bit smaller than the previous one. The ceiling was also high - so high that the teenager couldn't see the actual details of it.
She slowly walked down the aisle, making her way to the alter in no time at all. It was a simple pillar, though a bit more detailed than the one from outside, and upon it rested a strange mask that resembled the head of a bee. It had two eyes, and was a shiny red color, almost appearing to be organic. With her Digivice now reacting wildly, she knew this was likely one of the items that she was seeking out.
Xenica reached out for the mask, quickly taking it and jumping back, anticipating what would happen next. Sure enough, a series of iron spikes shot out of the ground and encased the pillar; but they weren't fast enough. She already had the ancient mask. The girl sat there for a few moments, gazing into the hazy purple eyes of the mask.
Without thinking twice, she slowly placed it over her face, which she quickly regretted. The ancient artifact grew into and fused with her face, causing her to release a muffled scream that filled the empty corridor. She clawed at her face, but it was no use, and after a minute or so, the mask vanished, absorbing into her skin. She felt her face, making sure nothing had changed, and sure enough, it felt the same as it always did.
She released a sigh of relief upon finding this out, taking a moment to catch her breath and get to her feet. At this moment, her D-Tector began to react wildly, prompting the teenager to pull it out to check it out. It showed a spirit of the mask that she had just absorbed into her skin, one that flashed red a few times before turning green, and vanishing. This likely meant that her mission was a success - she now had access to a new spirit form.
Xenica wondered what power this new form would bring. If it was anything like the spirits that she had encountered before, she certainly had a lot to hope for. With this power, she would become one of the strongest beings in the world. However, this was just the beginning. This spirit alone would not grant her such awesome abilities, but luckily, it was one of three. Two more like it laid within this ancient structure, and she planned on claiming all three. Just, hopefully they wouldn't all as be painful to obtain as this first one.
She sighed again, knowing that she was probably wrong. It was more likely that the ones ahead would hurt even more than this one. Taking a second to adjust her jet-black hair, the teenager composed herself and approached the smaller stone door. Luckily, this one wasn't as hard to open, and seemed to give way with a simple push. She walked forward into the darkness, ready to face whatever challenges this temple had in store for her.
