Agent Machine gave an awkward chuckle as it seemed there was disagreement in what language to speak in. Thankfully digimon proved to be apt translators to this all. Well, with two out of the three company speaking English, it seemed most convenient to stay with that language for now. Furthermore, it was probably not unusual for fans of metal music to speak English either, since the music genre had its origins outside of Japan, at least as far as Seifer knew.
Still though, the young man had to raise an eyebrow at the defiant statement that Keiji made. He understood the original Japanese well enough, so knew the translation to be genuine.
"You sure about that? Could be risky walking your digimon out in the open like this. I hear wild digimon can swoop in on you kinda quickly, and it might be dangerous if you get overwhelmed" he said, matter-of-factly.
Meanwhile with Leith, Machine noted he mentioned a train, but didn't react to it. As to their current conundrum of where to go, the DATS agent pulled his phone from his pocket, browsing for somewhere nearby they could go. He searched for small-to-medium sized bars, taverns and cafe's in the entertainment district, but with 1 or 2 star ratings. That way, he reasoned, they would hopefully find somewhere discreet, and the caterers wouldn't have a reason to question them, given they would likely be low on business.
Sure enough, he found a convenient one. "Well, there's a Thai food bar a block away through the backstreets" Machine spoke up. "Out of the way, kinda seedy atmosphere, food is bland but filling, probably shouldn't be much others there, and they'd probably be expecting unusual concert-goers like our digimon without question. That sound good?"

Keiji waited patiently for the translations to come through Haru. Then he shook his head, messy hair bouncing with the action. ”Fear isn’t a reason to hide. I could be attacked all by myself if they weren’t with me. Does that mean I should hide too? We should all just hide and never do anything because something bad might one day happen?”
Haru translated faithfully.
” And you can call me an activist all you like,” Keiji turned to Leith, not exactly scolding him but instead coolly disagreeing with him. His voice had that quality of a philosophical debate: vaguely bemused, utterly unthreatened. ”but I think making someone hide because they are different is wrong. Freedom is freedom, whether human or digimon. If Haru and Toji wanted to go into a digivice and hide, they could tell me. But I won’t make them.” To this point Keiji hadn’t even been reprimanded for keeping his digimon out and about. He’d been careful about where he went, and he clearly dressed them so they would attract less attention, but he’d never told them they couldn’t experience his world. He’d be appalled if they tried to tell him he wasn’t allowed to experience theirs. ”Also, my digivice doesn’t seem to have that feature. Or whatever a holo-suit is.” Keiji used the english word he’d heard for ‘holo-suit’ since he didn’t know what it was, let alone how to say it in japanese.
After Haru translated, somewhat stiffly, with lots of gesticulating of his little claw-hands to help put the emphasis where Keiji wanted it, he impotently thrust the little digivice at his digimon, as if illustrating ’See? Even if I wanted to, I can’t.’
But, completely without him, it was Haru who approved of the destination. <”I would love to taste new thai food! I have not gone there yet! I’m sure Keiji would agree.”> Again, his voice, while authentic, was translating with a sort of stilted, almost robotic air, changing his words and sentences on the fly and saying them without confidence, like making up technical jargon you don’t know how to use. ”Keiji!” the Tentomon switched back to japanese, ”They want to go to a…seedy...thai place that will accept Digimon!” clearly his translation was a little off, since ‘weird concert goers’ was a far cry from ‘digimon’. ”We’re going, right?”
Keiji merely nodded and gestured for their newest arrival to lead the way, to an explosion of light-hearted dancing from the red insect. Toji, the KoKabuterimon watched the other tamer hurriedly exclaim and run off like he was up to no good. Disappearing as quickly as he’d come, it made all of this feel...suspicious.

Leith wanted to keep arguing the point with Keiji because, well, he liked being right. The problem was an ideological victory didn't mean much once Keiji admitted he couldn't hide them any better even if he wanted to. So, the young man let it go. At least Hideaki seemed to have a decent idea of a safe place, so maybe it wasn't all bad. Still, Leith ended with one final word on the matter: "I think there're places on the other side where you can buy that stuff. Gotta admit digimon in disguise - you know, good disguises - kinda freak me out as a concept." Leith thought about discovering his sister had almost ended up crushing on a Gatchmon. Boy, was that a dodged bullet! "Anyway... I guess we're having Thai. After you, Hideaki."
"Sweet!"
"Yes!"
The young man really, truly, sincerely wanted to let bygones be bygones then as the group proceeded wherever Hideaki led them. However, somewhere along the way Leith finally noticed he'd received a private message during the set while glancing at his digivice during a break in conversation. His face changed as he was forced to reluctantly bring the subject back up. "Holy... uh, guys, you better take a look at this." After unharnessing his digivice from his wrist he showed everybody else what he'd just seen.
adri52: Leith, just letting you know right now. You know that event that happened in Scramble Crossing on New Years? Yeah, that's kind of our fault.
adri 52: Long story short, invading Digimon arrived and a new organization called DATS arrived to stop it. DATS agents could be anywhere, and they want to separate the two worlds. The government knows about Digimon, man.
"Shit, no wonder the Crossing was fucked. Keiji, guys, I hate to belabor the point, but I think we all just got one more good reason to hide." Leith made eye contact with each of his own digimon, and with their own expressions they showed they understood. How could Leith have known Hideaki was DATS as he showed the agent the message?
"Just until we get to the place!"
"We'll see how safe it is." On that note, Leith brought both digimon into his V-Pet program.

Agent Machine raised an eyebrow as one of their number decided to leave. "Well, okay then" he said in response. Best let them on their way then.
Next he turned to Keiji, eyebrow once again rising at that philosophy. To this he was compelled to answer. "Well, one of the best things about hiding is that your opponents can't see what you're doing while you're hidden, so, that's a thing I guess. Ordinarily I'd recommend you take it up with the person that recommended that, but, Sun Tzu died 2500 years ago, so, make of that what you will."
Either way, he wasn't going to make any further actions on this, that much was clear. His orders were only to stay back and follow, and to keep the commander informed. He would do those in due time. Thus far, he was finding his current approach somewhat useful - simply acting as an ordinary tamer caught up in things. So far, he felt no reason to drop the facade.
So far Keiji and his crew agreed, then Machine turned to Leith and his digimon for his input. First they agreed, then Leith received a message on a communication device. Agent Machine identified it at once, but didn't react to it. It was a D-Terminal.
For a moment, the young man's eyes widened at seeing the text as shown, but he tried his best to suppress it. For the moment, it seemed that the DATS agent was not willing to divulge his true occupation here.
"Hm. Yeah, I heard about the event of Scramble Crossing on New Year's" he said, scratching his chin. "The news said it was a gas explosion? Or terrorist attack? But I gathered all along that it involved digimon..." as for that other piece of information? He did not acknowledge it.
"Well, best get out of the way of government drones in that case" he said instead, pointing to the sky as a means of indicating they should probably get out of public view as long as their digimon were exposed here.

"The Art Of War." Even though Leith was cool and calm as he said that, he did wonder why exactly Hideaki was quoting from that of all books right then of all times. That just came off as weird to him, especially because Hideaki did seem to be talking about warfare, not a simple matter of prudence. "Probably shouldn't go looking for battle, but, uh... what he said, I guess."
The news of a digimon battle in the middle of Shibuya? Now that was even more unsettling. "So are you telling me that not only were digimon duking it out in the middle of Tokyo, and not only did I completely miss it, but nobody bother to fucking tell me until now?" Clearly he couldn't just brush that off like news of an actual gas explosion or terror attack. "Jesus, I got family here! I could've fucking been here! This guy Adrian, he says it was 'our fault,' too! I swear to shit, if I find out he could've called me here and just didn't feel like it, he's gonna pay!" He began to hold his forehead in one hand as he walked and treated his own skull like a stress ball.
"He must have had his reasons, Leith! It does feel wrong, though..."
"Digimon who'd do that don't deserve to waste human world air!"
"Jesus..." Leith accepted Hideaki's suggestion to hurry up so the group could duck inside, but he couldn't let this news go on his own. "Fuck, I saw that one building. People could've been in that for all we know!"

Everyone seemed to accept that Keiji’s digimon were staying. That’s what he got from the shrugs and side looks anyway. Which was good, because as he had demonstrated, he couldn’t do any better than thick children’s coats and ski goggles. His digimon looked ridiculous, and you might wonder what two children were doing with a street tough, a metalhead, and this tightly dressed boy, but they only looked like digimon if you got up close. A passing glance wouldn’t reveal them...he hoped.
Which left only the stunned silence as Tentomon translated in his halting, word by word voice, that DATS was a thing. That the government hated digimon. Or wanted them gone. The translation was fuzzy. But Keiji only looked more, if not less, determined after hearing the news. ”Government hates everything cool. Skateboarding...government hates. Digimon...government hates. Metal music...parents hate. If somebody hates it, then you’re doing something cool.” Tentomon faithfully translated the boy’s mantra into english.
”Keiji...caution. You don’t know how big or how dangerous this is getting. Perhaps it would be better if we waited in the Digital World for you from now. Until you learned how to better accomodate us.” KoKabuterimon was ever the protector. The father of the trio. Toji’s words made sense. Hopefully he could convince his stubborn charge. ”Digimon are capable of truly heinous acts, when they grow strong enough. They won’t respond to you flaunting your status as a tamer with a citation or by making you clean graffiti. They’ll show up with weapons. Or digimon of their own, ready to fight.” Toji’s voice dipped into a bitter sort of sadness, ”If a battle cannot be won. Do not fight it.” Also Sun Tzu. But a very different quote indeed. Toji looked at the well dressed gentleman, knowing he understood enough japanese that he did not need the translation. He gave him one of those glances that said ‘I’ve got him, stop worrying’.
Keiji scoffed, but he didn’t gainsay his digimon. Toji was their strategist. If he counselled caution...then Keiji would be stupid to deny it. ”Then we’ll be careful. Let’s get inside. But I’m not exiling you to the digital world just because these...DATtebayo guys think they should get to control digimon. I didn’t vote for them.” The taller boy’s long legs brought him to the door first, and he held it open for everyone else to pile inside.

It was a moment of embarrassment for Agent Machine when he "revealed his power level" so to say after reciting Sun Tzu. Normal people didn't do that, as far as he knew, so he remained tight-lipped to try and disregard the fact he had said that.
Thankfully that point seemed to be avoided with Leith's reaction to the news of the Battle of Scramble Crossing. Agent Machine had been personally present there, yes, but he didn't think that information should be immediately shared. Even if that was dishonest of him, he felt that would be the best action he could take for the moment. And with that, Seifer agreed.
Leith mentioned Adrian too. Ah, that was one of the tamers present at the battle. The one with the compulsive partner. That they were friends was not lost on him. Tylomon had been brave, yes, but foolish, using such a strong attack without a means of preventing the enemy evading.
Still, Machine felt he should at least put Leith's fears to rest. "It happened shortly after midnight on new year's day. Nobody was present in the buildings that were struck, and nobody died. That so far is confirmed."
Then the DATS agent turned to Keiji, then nodded in agreement. "Accurate there. Digimon are pretty cool, but you know how the Government of Japan is these days..."
Of course Machine was referring to how traditionalist and old-fashioned the policies of the government was, at least to everyone else.
He then turned to KoKabuterimon, who gave some advice to Keiji. With this, Machine could stand behind. "I agree. With the way things are going, it would probably be bad if exposed digimon walked the streets. I mean... how crazy would it be for the average person if they found out aliens walked among us?"
He presented this question in an air of jest, but still seriously would consider their answers.
Following that, it seemed they were agreed to enter the restaurant. It seemed that at this time of night, they were the only customers. Indeed the owner seemed surprised to see them enter.
"I'll have the special, please" Agent Machine said, going with the principle that the first thing on the menu was the recipe the restaurant was most willing to cook. He'd wait until the others made their orders before sitting down. Of course, he intended to share the food with Seifer once they were safely hidden away in a berth that cut off visual sight. And he was glad to see that one was available.

"I like your values if nothing else," was both Leith's attempt at diplomacy with that stubborn, headstrong guy and the truth. He managed to keep the thought, I'm all for putting one's life on the line for the cause, but do you really want it to be your life for that cause? to himself.
Following Hideaki, hearing that there was no body count from an ultimate-level fight on Earth was a Plesiomon and Megaseadramon-sized weight off of the boy's shoulders, which others could no doubt tell by his huge sigh of relief and slight shake of the head. Maybe the question was a joke, but Leith didn't treat it like one since it was a real issue that probably affected people. "When that's all people see of digimon I almost wanna think the government is right. God knows it's almost gotten me killed enough times. I'm sure you've got a couple stories to tell, all of you."
"Never thought I'd hear you say the government was right."
"Take a million shots, and one is gonna hit. But I did say 'almost.' I'm just sayin' I see it from their side, which is the best they can do with the information they've got even if it's not the full picture." He paused. "Shit, now that we're talkin' about it, someone watch the door; now I'm all paranoid a..." Leith referred to Adrian's message to remember the name of that group. "...what was it? DATS. Now I'm all paranoid DATS is gonna bust in or somethin'. I mean, we haven't exactly been careful." Leith, sadly, did not have any knowledge of this restaurant and really didn't want to hold people up by asking for a menu. So, as orders were being taken, Leith punted, "What he said," while inclining his head toward Hideaki. After that, though, he began to lower his voice. "So, Hideaki. We've shown you ours, but you haven't shown us yours. I don't think we've even seen your digivice yet."

Keiji slid into the large circular booth, his digimon piling on either side of him, fencing him and and keeping a looking. Haru was pointing his big green eyes at everything he could, looking at other guests, the servers, and even the food. He was like a little kid, standing on the booth seat and peering behind them behind his ski goggles that kept his more obvious insectoid eyes covered. Toji, meanwhile, sat and began to immediately grab a pair of chopsticks, his mandile-like claws showing a surprising amount of dexterity as he tested them with a few pinches at the air. He deemed them appropriate before setting them down on the napkin in front of him, ready to eat. Keiji’s digimon couldn’t be more night and day in their approach to cuisine.
”Values are what’s important, so I’m okay with that,” Keiji said, but Haru was too distracted to translate, ”All the little choices mean nothing without values ot support them. And all the words mean nothing without action behind them.” Keiji of course meant that his commitment to freedom was evident in the fact that both of his digimon were out and about, while Leith showed a compromised sense of that same freedom, sending some of his digimon away and hiding the ones he couldn’t. Machine himself was on the opposite end, making excuses for hiding, pretending not to be ashamed. Keiji had noticed, and staunchly refused to do either. Like his fights with his father, admonishing him only made him dig his heels in, regardless of the outcome.
”Ooh! They have fried gyoza! <Fried Gyoza!>” Toji piped up suddenly, repeating it in english and tapping the menu. His outburst was clearly meant to provide both distraction and cover from the boys who were in obvious disagreement. Ever the mediator. Ever the protector. ”We have to get some. And extra beansprouts in our ramen….” Food would surely be a more agreeable topic than the freedom of people, ”...Haru! Bensprouts? An extra egg?” He questioned his little brother like a mother might, getting his order ready so he could speak on the Tentomon’s behalf.

Agent Machine didn't reply to Leith's statement about everyone having a couple of stories to tell here, but his eyes gave away more than he wanted. He clasped his hands and looked down at the table, avoiding everyone's gaze. Yeah, he had a tale, but, he was hardly going to share it among strangers.
Seifer was similarly silent. Something had indeed happened, but, again, not something he would reveal to these people currently.
Eventually, Machine felt the need to say at least something to all this. "I agree, the government should learn more about digimon before making actions like this. A situation with a cornered digimon could end up as the biggest disaster in this city this century."
Leith seemed a little uncomfortable with the idea of DATS being around now. Agent Machine was beginning to feel a little bad by now for hiding his identity here. Still, he tried to be comforting. "Well, from what I heard, DATS won't pick you up unless you draw their attention." he explained. "If you keep your partner in their rookie form and keep them hidden in a holosuit or V-Pet system, they won't bother you. That's at least how I've managed to keep Seifer hidden for so long at least."
Leith then inquired about his digivice. Agent Machine then obliged, pulling out his device and resting it on the table. "Here it is" he said, shrugging. On the screen, a small sprite-like image of a Hackmon could be seen. "This is Seifer by the way."
"Hiya" Seifer waved to those that were looking upon him. "Say, Hideaki, can I please share some food with you? Not like DATS can find us in this little booth can they?"
"I suppose not, sure." Machine answered, then picked the digivice up. "Seifer, realize" he said, pointing it at the corner of the booth. In a small wave of light, a little hooded dragon digimon appeared. He took a moment to orient himself, then jumped onto the table, giving a wave at those present.
"Hiya, nice to meet you all in person." he said in a cheerful tone.

All this talk about government agents and and drones and digimon disasters wasn't exactly great for Leith's nerves. He didn't recognize his own symtoms at first - trying not to pay attention, a tight throat, fast heart beat, slightly heavier breath, and lips unconsciously pursed - but he was jolted back into awareness when Seifer became a physical being. After shaking his head to clear it, he recognized his symptoms and knew what was happening to him. By now, he also knew the best way to deal with it: leave. "Hey, uh, I really hate to be rude, but I should probably go." He thought he needed an excuse, though, so he made up, "I think I gotta tell my family and a few friends about this, make sure they know about all this stuff." Something in his tone and body language might have tipped off the others he was lying, but that was OK. He made the attempt, at least. "But, uh, you guys catch me on T-Net sometime. I'll talk about music any day. And check out Haunted Threnody - my band's got some stuff up! Anyway... see you."
On that note, Leith made a hasty exit from the restaurant and, well, the dimension. Head down paranoid of every street camera, he walked all the way back to the train station and home - or, not home, but some place safer. [Exit]
