The Introduction of a Shield [K]

Ayaka Maeda had been having a pretty bizarre week up to this point. First, she saw flying noodle-like creatures on her way to a coffee shop. That was on Monday. Then, she ran into a girl with an oversized egg that hatched into an incessantly flirtatious (and thick-accented) purple blob that she later learned was called a Moonmon.
Then she met that Moonmon's apparent sibling, a Cutemon that...called herself Coolmon. That's how she learned about Digimon. And the world she was now traversing. And the tower she was walking into. The girl was incredibly skeptical about everything around her, but the rabbit at her side had been reassuring her the whole way that everything was...normal.
What a dirty lie.
At the lobby of the fortress entitled Vander Tower, a woman with lilac hair wearing armor (with a obnoxious choice of footwear, seriously, who actually wears high heels with armor?) would approach the receptionist's desk, and clear her throat. "Um, hi, I'd like to schedule a meeting with..." The woman turned and looked down to the Cutemon at her side. "You said it was K, right? Just one letter?"
"Yup! Like the other fifty times I said it."
...Aya still had difficulties believing that her partner's 'boss' was a white fox that was just named K. "...Yes, I'd like to schedule a meeting with K on behalf of Cu-...Coolmon here. She...really wants me to meet her."

K's week had been pretty standard, dealing with varying individuals in regards to the knights. Accumulating information about varying bandit groups in the region, trying to get patrol routes to start. The arrival of her 'butler' a particular renamon by the name of Garlond and several other swaths of paperwork delivered by individuals from all crosses of life.
At the receptionist desk that same Renamon would be sitting there rather curtly dealing with the few individuals from the construction crew that had apparently not gotten paid and were looking for employment for the expansion project K was looking to start. He'd lean slightly however when the human addressed him. Holding up a hand to those few mons that now awkwardly stepped to one side he'd size up the individual in front of him.
"A meeting with K is easy to arrange, her current scheduling is wide open. You could easily go upstairs yourself Ms..."
The renamon paused and leaned to one side to stare at the cutemon that was by the human's side. Frowning slowly he'd sigh sharply and then just shake his head.
"Miss Coolmon, you're aware that the knights don't have to set up a meeting with their leader they simply can just go see her correct? She's up in her office dealing with... she started that at five this morning so she should be dealing with some whitewater frivolities."
The renamon stood up after a few moments and adjusted his suit top, though the distinct lack of pants was obvious he still was surprisingly well dressed. He'd look Ayaka up and down before frowning softly.
"I presume that you are Ms. Coolmon's ward or Squire?"

"I'm not very privy towards lying, Mister Garlond, but I wasn't sure if it was or wasn't. Besides, this is...a pretty important matter to myself. Slightly." Coolmon addressed the Renamon with the kind of tone one would expect from her Antylamon form.
She sounded rather serious. Ayaka felt her nerves...well, they were doing things. That fox was definitely scrutinizing her. Coolmon continued to address Garlond, "Plus, my friend here isn't...really part of the knights. I came here to arrange something to fix that."
That was probably where Aya should introduce herself, yes. "Er...The former. I'm her tamer as of...Tuesday this week. Coolmon only told me about Miss K's group and this place yesterday and we both figured I should get acquainted with the group. I...do apologize for any inconveniences we cause."

"Understandable Ms. Coolmon. Lying doesn't suit you anyways; too much to keep track of and you're the honest sort."
He was curt, he was cautious and above all else while he might of been scrutinizing the two lightly he was polite. He'd slide a form to the mon's waiting to one side and they'd quickly scamper off, one of the impmon's staring up at the human before running off. The answer given regarding Ayaka made Garlond's eyebrows raise lightly.
"Ah I see. That's an easy amendment to the roster and meeting Mrs. K would definitely benefit you all. She'll likely take it upon herself to induct you in a similar fashion to the rest, but considering that your partner already passed the test she may do something else. It's not so much an Inconvenience Miss as it is simple protocol."
A firm shrug and he'd walk around the desk. The small twinging of wires able to be heard as he gestured to a nearby staircase. He was in control here, he was powerful and he knew this place like the back of his hand. But he was as all of those that worked for or directly under K...
A piece of a puzzle, or a piece of a board that was yet unseen.
"Up these stairs, third door on the left. I can guide you if you desire but... Ah! Housing. Does she need a separate housing than you Ms. Coolmon? We have several rooms open and barring that there is the general barracks that are still empty."
The light undertone of respect mixed with the desire to assist was easy to spot, but there was a light amount of concern for the human. He wasn't sure if she would be up to snuff but... He wasn't going to voice that, K decided who joined and who didn't plain and simple. Well. So far at least as none of the other knights had made strides to recruit others. But he was looking forward to the day when they used their judgement to bring others into the fold.

"If it helps, she's got the knight outfit down pat. And for free, might I add!" Coolmon noted, with a snicker. Neither of the two knew why the powers that were decided that the nursing student that was visually impaired needed to be decked out in armor and contacts. But, at the very least Aya was walking around in style.
"...I wasn't told anything about inducting. Or what Coolmon went through for any test. But...I'll see what has to be done." Aya nodded before the duo proceeded towards the stairs, Coolmon waving at Garlond, before she stopped briefly. "...I'll leave it to her--she's her own person, after all."
"If I'm being offered a room, then I'll take it. Just...make sure it has a study, please. I have educational engagements to prepare for in time." Aya told the butler fox. Coolmon meanwhile decided to voice something else! "I know where the office is, uh...You don't need to. Really, don't worry about us." It was pretty clear that Coolmon had a lot of faith in this.
Yet, ultimately, both Garlond and Coolmon knew that it was up to K herself, yes. That's why the two were proceeding up these stairs and to the door on the left. "...Is there anything I should be expecting?" Aya found herself asking the small, pink rabbit. She only responded with a "You'll probably figure it out within a few seconds, maybe." As they went for the door.

"I can see that, most humans wear clothing befit of their station in life back in their world from what I am aware. It's... strange seeing them in something like this."
Garlond admitted plainly, giving a firm shrug at the coolmon's snicker. He wasn't above admitting that he thought it was strange, nor was he above admitting his distaste for some humans or mons. But he at least found this human at least pleasant to deal with even if he felt she was a little more... what was the term? Restricted? But perhaps it was because of the strange setting that she found herself in.
"Each Knight undergoes a trial of sorts; by K's digression."
He'd speak plainly and then raise his brows, tutting softly he'd slide his hands through his desk and draw out a key with a label. It would be the room directly to the left of coolmon's. As they were a 'duo' and it'd benefit both of them to be close to one another. Without much hesitation he'd flick his wrist and the key would dance it's way through the air to hang in front of Ayaka as though suspended from nothing.
"I will see to it that you have your study by this time tomorrow."
Curious how he would even get it there seeing as the renamon himself didn't seem to be that strong on the outside. He'd smile warmly to coolmon and simply nod at the fact that he didn't need to worry about the both of them.
"Very well. Now if you excuse me I have some arrangements to make..."
The renamon went back to his desk and immediately set to work on something. Was it Ayaka's desk? Was it something else? Who knew, save for the mon himself!
Inside of the room the shutmon sat there, pouring over paperwork. Scrolling through a holographic display that allowed her to see the patrol routes one of her mercs was going over. She was also quietly talking to someone on a headset, there was hardly a second before her hand shot up to her sword on her back and it was halfway out before her eyes registered coolmon and the human.
"Sweep the area again Oathgard. Contact Joseph when you're done and see to it to escort those people home. I have business to attend to here."
She'd wave her hand to dismiss the holographic display before turning off her communication device that was linked into her ear. With a firm sigh she'd stand up and.. up and up. The wolf herself was a simple eight feet tall, practically looming over the renamon that the Human and Coolmon would of met downstairs. But for coolmon it wouldn't be anything new.
"Coolmon. I see you brought a friend."
Her expression was cautious, her words careful. Her hand was still resting easily on her sword. Ever since that fight in the eastern timberlands against the wisemon she had been much more on guard than usual. Even more so when out and about. Her icy blue eyes locked onto Ayaka and the wolf stepped out from around the desk, her cloak billowing behind her
"Pink hair, sharp smells of shibuya.. an armored form? I presume that it changed when you entered into the digital world. Humans aren't exactly known to wear the stuff anymore."
Though unlike most digimon that seemed to speak Japanese from their programming, K herself had gone ahead and learned the language from humans. While her accent was noticeable her pronunciation of words and structure was that of someone that had lived in Shibuya their entire life. Even though she didn't live there longer than a few months at best...
"I'm K. The leader of the Knights of the Rose. And you are Miss?"

"Agreed--Neither of us know why she ends up in armor whenever she comes to this world, but...Protection's protection? She looks way nerdier in the real world...Yet the armor's pretty nice, still. It's kind of like that one guy...Batman I think?" Coolmon mused as Aya reached out to take the floating key.
It would be pertinent to note that the look of skepticism never left the girl's face. "You have my thanks, sir..." She nodded towards the Renamon as they proceeded forth. Once they were within K's office, Aya froze as the fox reached for her sword, alarm quickly registering on the human's face.
This was not a Renamon as she was told. This was a wolf that towered over her. In the Digital World, Aya was at least 6 feet tall thanks to the height offered by her heels. It was great for intimidation, as Coolmon said. Speaking of? "A little more than that, K. I'll allow her to introduce herself. She's super lucky."
...How the hell did this giant, armed wolf know she was a Shibuya native? Aya took a gulp. "Ayaka Maeda, miss...K." One letter. Seriously? "I'm Coolmon's tamer, as...powers that neither of us know too much about would have it be. It's an honor to meet you." From what little Coolmon had actually told her? K seemed like a noble individual, at first glance.

The reaction that Aya had to K was warranted. Here was a digimon reaching for and holding onto a weapon that could quite possibly kill. She wasn't trained formally, no every movement was curt to the point and spoke of the hardships she had went through. K's ears flicked and she'd look at the coolmon as they spoke. This human was a little more than a friend? Coolmon hadn't struck her as the sort to endear herself to a human companion. A small frown creased her lips but likely to the relief of the human she removed her hand from the sword.
She remained largely silent, nodding her head at the introduction. She wasn't surprised that she had never heard of the name before, not everyone was an idol or super well known in the human world. She knew that they had to fight and struggle to make their names known, in such an overpopulated state how could they not? Her brows quickly shot up however when she stated that she was coolmon's tamer. She seemed somewhat exasperated, but she certainly relaxed a little bit from hearing that the human wasn't... well. Coolmon's attempt at bringing another individual in that she had to scope and try to understand.
"The pleasure's all mine Ms. Ayaka."
She'd dip her head in a small nod and inspect Ayaka curiously. The armor was something that she seriously didn't know how to address but if it functioned as armor well.. She'd likely have to learn how to move with those heels, get some actual training...
"How much has coolmon told you about the knights?"
K rubbed her muzzle softly and looked to coolmon for a moment mulling over a few things. If She had to guess they were either at the butt end of primary schooling or just starting up college. She didn't strike her as under-age but the digimon could largerly be wrong.
"How long have the two of you been partners? How old are you? Are you in schooling and what for?"
K turned her head, her eyes staring down at the coolmon. Her next question was more directed at coolmon but if Ayaka felt like answering K wouldn't mind but she was treating the both of them as equally as you could. She had to size up Ayaka among other things.
"Any noticeable changes after becoming partners?"
Regardless of her getting an immediate answer or not K would gesture for the two to follow her. It was a quite sizable climb to the top of the tower and the shutmon wasn't exactly going to rush it. But she didn't feel like being in her office for this and once Garlond noticed she was out he would adjust accordingly.

It was rumored that Coolmon had always wanted a tamer. More than anything else in the world. Did she get that wish? Yes, absolutely. Now the question was if she was a good partner for one. The wolf, however, didn't seem to recognize Aya. That was good. That meant she could be recognized by her own merits here.
Aya exhaled. "As much as any poster around the cities would tell you. She wanted me to form my own opinion of you and the knights. At least, that's what she said before we came here." Despite the strangeness of the armor in some spots? It seemed like it was _made_ for Aya. Protected vital spots, and fit perfectly.
It didn't excuse those atrocious heels, though. She started to rattle off answers to K's questions. "Since last Tuesday. Judging by how time works here, that was...About a month and nineteen days in Digital World time. This is only my second time here, though. I'm twenty--studying to become a physical therapist. It's...um. Difficult, but I'm making do."
Coolmon, meanwhile, shrugged. "Not really. At most, my higher forms take a bit more effort to access, but Aya's been able to help me get over that. I think it's got to do with establishing a rapport..." The Cutemon mused as she and Aya followed K up to the top. The latter was at least used to walking in her heels, to note.

K herself had never heard of the rumors that coolmon wanted a tamer, she didn't know that she wished for it. Nor did she mind the idea of a mon that didn't have a tamer getting one. She herself didn't think she would be a good partner to a tamer; at least not as she was perhaps. K spent a good time inspecting Aya, trying to better understand the physical nature of the human in front of her. She knew humans were tougher than they looked and with the armor she well... Perhaps she would be a bit better suited than most to physical battles if they ended up including her? It was something she didn't want to test.
"Those posters are still around? That's a surprise. But that's definately wise of her, if she told you too much your own would be stunted."
There was a distinct pause and the wolf considered how to address this situation in it's entirity. She needed to explain a few things; if the posters are what they went off of well... There would be gaps.
"The knights were created to address the threats large and small that the digital world has to deal with. D-reapers, Spires, these elemental orbs or whatever the world might have to offer."
K's ears flicked, since last tuesday? She'd exhale a little bit and shake her head, that wasn't a lot of time to get used to one another. She had been to the digital world twice, was studying to become a physical therapist and... well. She was young in terms of human age.
"You'll need to spend more time together to get more used to one another, but it's not something I'm going to ask you to speed along or force. You'll be able to come here more often, I'll presume coolmon that you passed off the home portal device to her? In terms of physical therapy there are schools here you could study at to help along your studies in the human world as well."
The fact that Ayaka was already aware of the time dilation saved K some breath and made her a little more at ease when addressing the human. So the higher forms take a little bit more effort? They needed to have a firmer relationship for that to not be the case. K rubbed at her muzzle thoughtfully and once they were at the top of the tower K would push open the door to the 'roof'.
At the top of the tower they could see a good distance away, though the mountains that were a part of this floating fortress helped hide them they could use this to see for quite a bit around the place. Suffice to say it was breath-taking even for those that were used to it. K would walk over to the edge of the roof and simply lean against what amounted to the guard railing.
"A bit more effort can make or break a fight or situation. I don't expect you to immediately adjust but I would suggest talking to Luke and Iko. They've been doing this business for a while and they would be able to give you pointers on how a tamer and digimon relationship works. But yes, establishing a rapport with one another is a part of it. There's a plethora of tamers and such out there that can assist you as well."
She'd turn her head a little bit to stare back at the two. Her expression was quite serious but her tone was largerly helpful.
"Regardless of my thoughts on the matter, one of my knights now has a partner. A partner that has come to my place designed solely for protecting those that need it. Normally I would do a trial for someone new but there remains little point for me to try to do the same with you. A rare case that I don't think will repeat itself. I won't ask you to lay down your life for a world you know so little about and haven't been around long enough in it to formulate your own wants or desires regarding it. Travel a bit, look around, find out what and who you are here before settling yourself into a role you may find yourself resenting later."
She'd turn her head to look forward, chuckling lightly and giving it a firm shake. She seemed rather amused by this entire venture thus far.
"Is what I would say normally. But tell me Ayaka; given my position and what I made this group for how would you address it? Someone I don't know, attached to a knight that I do trust as a partner no less! And there's nothing I can do to change that and nothing I would do to threaten that position now created."
Even if she gave her answer, or took her time K would address another fact.
"How do I address the patrol routes I had in mind for coolmon now that she has a partner that very reasonably can't move in the same fashion that she could at higher levels? Do I treat Coolmon as one step weaker for the time being? Do I assign another patrol route I had in mind for someone else? Or do I trust my knight regardless of their own physical capabilities knowing that the route I picked is dangerous for someone of a lower level? For a human even? A human I don't know much about than the things that you told me? A human I don't know the combat capabilities of, their demanor or their innate desires or reactions given a situation? I can smell the city on you, I can tell your studied and that you've spent much of your time in a city but... That doesn't tell me who or what you are, just where and what you've done. Somewhat at least."
Then she would turn again, a smile quite clear on her face. Sure she was all business from time to time but... at least given this situation she was quite happy to be dealing with something this simple.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm not treating you like a weakness. Humans are anything but that."

It was understandable that K had never heard of that wish. Coolmon never actually confirmed or denied such a thing--after all, she wouldn't just discuss it willy nilly. Now, the tamer that Coolmon inevitably did procure? Sure, she looked hardy, but there was something glaring to be seen.
This human hadn't been tested in battle or anything. She was a definite greenhorn that was staring at the insane view from here. The duo could definitely feel that they were under some serious scrutiny right now, especially Aya. The girl did not speak first at K's rather...loaded question. Could it be called that? She waited until the wolf had finished speaking before she began to formulate a response.
"There's no way that I can actually address this at a level that you could considered qualified. But, even though I'm a greenhorn, I'm not a liability by any means. I at least know my limits and how to keep myself safe--especially considering that from what I know? You and Coolmon alike are capable of downright inhuman feats. Doesn't mean I can't learn and acclimate, though. That's what humans do, after all!"
She didn't sound offended or anything. That was at least something good.
"So, what are you suggesting, Miss K?" The human inquired.

It would have to be something that would need to be addressed, either verbally or physically in some manner. K didn't operate off of looks alone; if she did half of her adventures or interactions would of been vastly different. She'd give the human time to respond, not wishing to push them to respond immediately. So she'd lean on the railing, her tail swishing back and forth as she mulled over the large separated questions. Right off the bat the human addressed the fact that she couldn't address it at a level that she would consider qualified. Calling herself a greenhorn but also cementing the fact that she wasn't a liability.
She and coolmon were both capable of inhuman feats?
Well of course that made sense, comparibly a rookie and human matched in terms of physical strength or something along those lines but there was the fact moves existed. She'd tut gently and tapped on the railing; what was she suggesting exactly?
"Safety, knowing ones limits... Hmm I wonder."
The shutmon turned to more look at the human, assessing her for a few long moments before rubbing her muzzle thoughtfully. There was a lot that she could say, she could turn this human away easily but that would also be problematic in the fact coolmon would go with them. But that wasn't something she really wanted to do, she trusted coolmon's judgement and she should at least trust the human that came with her now.
"What I am suggesting is training. Pure and simple, adaptation and such will be your biggest advantages. As it sits you've got a lot about another world to learn ontop of what you're studying for. So we'll have to use the time that we have between world threats to get you up to speed."
The shutmon would hold up a hand to signify she wasn't done as she rolled around something in her head a bit.
"For now, you'll be a knight. But you'll need to train more and travel more to fill in the blanks. Learn it up as you will. Once we get you up to speed we can approach things as they come. So for now it'll just be patrols, training and the like. You'll have your free time to use as you see fit and you'll have accommodations to help you in ventures you want to partake on within limit."
The shutmon took a long few moments and then simply shrugged her shoulders a bit, even going so far as to sit on the railing which was sturdy enough to hold her weight. She seemed rather thoughtful, even going so far as to scratch at one of her ears.
"If you want assistance with training I'm certain other members of the knights would be willing to help you out. Myself included. In terms of your studies there's a sizeable library in the Digital core, it moves around quite a bit. There's also plenty of places that you can get information in terminus or other major cities. I know my daughter holly plans on studying to become a doctor so maybe she can offer some helpful pointers as to where to go for things in that field. Barring that speak to my husband when he's around."
Another considerable pause and she'd drag a finger across the railing with a thoughtful hum.
"I'll send the patrol routes to your desk and see what else I can come up in the mean time. If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to state or ask them."

That'd probably be the best way to approach this rather unique matter. Practice of course makes perfect, so training would be the best way for the two to overcome the limitations that a Digivice would impose upon Coolmon. Other than that, it was decided that Aya would be a knight--albeit one in need of training.
So, the same duties Coolmon was responsible for would be assigned to her too. "Yes, ma'am." Aya gave a few swift nods, before she tilted her head. A literal moving library? Interesting. "...You mean it literally moves...?" She repeated.
...Wait. You mean to tell me that you're not only an 8 feet tall wolf with enough swords to make an anime convention uncomfortable but you're married and have a kid? That was something she was DEFINITELY NOT about to repeat out loud anywhere. Nope.
It seriously looked like Aya was taking a moment to process that. "...What field does your husband specialize in? And what's your daughter planning to go into?" Simple questions. Both she and Coolmon were still as statues.
