Wormmon's list of priorities didn't impress Hawkeye. However, that total annihilation bit didn't exactly fly under the radar.
"I know Wormmon seems dangerous, but he's actually got a good heart buried under all that ego."
Wormmon then proceeds to make Dante eat his words, teasing the lost girl and trying to spook her.
"Wormmon, you're making it hard to stick up for you."
Wormmon's antics seemed to work a little too well, as the girl was frightened and kicked the Worm King, sending him flying back to Dante.
"Oww! What gives? I just want some sugary treats!"
Hawkeye takes a more sensible approach. He makes a proper introduction. The girl reveals her name to be Kaya. Dante mutters under his breath at how Hawkeye is being much more welcoming to Kaya than he was with them.
"Careful, Hawkeye. Apperances can be misleading. Anyways, my name is Dante, and that worm you just punted is Wormmon, a Digimon with a lot of, personality."
Wormmon shakes himself off and snarls in the direction of Kaya. This was not the Worm King's day.
"Bwah! First shellfish one ups me, then there's beakface barking orders, and now some girl kicks me?! Nyah! I'm tired of being pushed around today." "Why don't you settle down, and you won't have such a hard time? You know, you're not entirely blameless of everything."
What sort of strange force had brought the girl here all of a sudden? Dante hasn't experienced anything like this before. His suspicions of a rift opening up had grown. Even if Wormmon is being a pain in everyone's butt, they still had to make the best of things and go along until they could leave the village.
"I apologize for Wormmon acting up. That's kind of his thing. You are in no danger here." "I say we tie her up and beat her with sticks until candy comes out. Delicious candy! Aaaarraaah!" "Wormmon, I will make you all the frozen lasagna meals you can chow if you shut up once in a while and start being nice." "Lasagna?! Fine, fine. I'll be a nice Worm. Yuck! You are seriously cramping my style, ya know?"

Even though Dante was trying to defend the Wormmon, Hawkeye just was not buying it. "I doubt that. Like I told you, I can tell that there's evil within you. And if you're evil, then your partner has to be evil as well."
Kaya was not having a good time right now. One moment she's at home in Shibuya walking around her backyard, and the next she's in a completely random place with a bunch of creatures that DEFINITELY weren't human. How did I get myself into this? I want to go home. Thankfully at least one of these creatures understood how she was feeling and tried to be as calm as possible.
"It's very nice to meet you... Hawkeye, was it?" Kaya asked as she finished shaking Hawkeye's wing. "Like the superhero?"
"The what?" Hawkeye asked, tilting his head a little bit. "What's a 'superhero'?"
"You know, that Marvel superhero! You even use a bow and arrows like he does!" Kaya then paused to take in actually who she was saying this to. "...you have no idea what I'm talking about and now I sound like an idiot."
Dante came up and introduced himself, as well as the creature that Kaya had kicked away, describing him as having a lot of personality. "It's good to meet you, Dante. Do you happen to know how I can get home? Where even am I, anyway?"
"The Digital World."
Raising an eyebrow, Kaya turned towards Hawkeye with a questioning look. "The... Digital World? Like a video game? Please tell me he's joking, Dante. I mean, I'm twelve and even I know that this stuff can't exist! Even though I am... looking at a... bunch of monsters..."

Hawkeye was persistent that there is evil within Dante. The Tamer just shrugs and lets out a sigh.
"There's evil in everyone. It's when people or Digimon cannot recognize it inside themselves that wickedness inside us spills out and hurts people. Wormmon is evil, no doubt about it."
It was clear that Kaya isn't exactly enjoying this sudden trip down the rabbit hole. It was difficult for people to grasp the fact that bizarre monsters actually exist. For Dante, finding out about Digimon was easier than this, as he received Wormmon's egg in Japan. At least Hawkeye is doing what he can to break the story softly.
Upon hearing Hawkeye's name, Kaya compares him to a superhero by that name. Wormmon recognizes them and starts to snicker.
"Ya, I wasn't going to say anything. I thought it was a coincidence, but she makes a pretty good point about that bow thing. If I was a superhero, I would be Wonder Wormmon! In my satin tights, fighting to crush your rights! Doing what I got to do! Da-da, da da, la la la!" "Oh great, now he's dancing around."
The blonde girl asks Dante if he knows how to get home. Dante gives his best impression of what a competent veteran Tamer would say to a newbie in this situation, channeling his inner Kiyoko the shrine maiden (pre drunk phase.)
"Somehow, you've been transported to the Digital World, a world comprised of data which is inhabited by many different Digital Monsters. It's a world that exists alongside our own. Getting from one to the other can often be tricky, but I have been back and forth many times." "We should be getting frequent flyer miles by now."
"Your best bet is to catch a Trailmon to Terminus City. Right now, you're in the Server Woods. Though why you appeared here in the first place is beyond me, since you are not a Tamer." "Maybe she's a Spirit User. Did you even think of that, Dante?" "Obviously she's not, if she didn't know about Digimon. Try to keep up instead of cracking wise and dancing around." "I'm going to dance all over your face if we don't get some food soon."
It may be difficult being brought to the Digital World for the first time, but at least there is someone here to explain these things. Between Hawkeye and Dante, they can answer Kaya's questions and tell her things she otherwise wouldn't know. Wormmon crawls up Dante's leg and rests on his shoulder with his front legs crossed.
"So ya, welcome to the Digital World. I'm not going to eat you, but not every Digimon is as awesome as me."

"As I said, if you or your partner is evil, then the other is surely as well. Thankfully your kind of evil just seems to be the kind that makes others mildly annoyed, instead of the kind like what we've faced against."
Hawkeye was very confused when the human girl, Kaya, compared his name to something called a 'superhero.' The Hawkmon had no idea what she was talking about, but Wormmon clearly did, snickering out loud upon hearing it, causing Hawkeye to glare at Wormmon. "I do not find you amusing, Wormmon."
"...what is he doing?" Kaya asked Hawkeye when the Wormmon began to dance around.
"Beats me. He could either be attempting to dance or trying to summon Myotismon, with how much I know about him so far."
Now was the matter of getting home. When Kaya asked the other human Dante about ways to get home, he explained that she was in a world similar to her own called the Digital World, which indeed was made of practically ones and zeroes. He also explained that she had to catch something called a Trailmon, which she assumed was just another word for train. Apparently this Trailmon station was in a place called Terminus City.
"Is this.. Terminus City far away, by any chance?" Kaya asked nervously. Her heart dropped when Hawkeye nodded a 'yes'. "Then how am I supposed to get there? If this entire world has those monsters, then I'll be killed within five minutes!"
"If you wish to go, then someone would have to go with you, young lady," Jijimon said. Upon looking at the potential volunteers, almost all of whom looked away, he made eye contact with Hawkeye. "Young Hawkeye, what do you say? Will you accompany this young human to Terminus?"
"M-Me?!" Hawkeye gasped, completely taken aback. "I'm not going anywhere until I know that the village is safe, and that the Seadramon is long gone! And even then there's bound to be more thieves!"

"You may be on to something there, Hawkeye."
While Hawkeye might not be the friendliest Digimon Dante has met, the Tamer could recognize his passion for his home. Wormmon and Hawkeye were not quite getting alone, the former's in your face attitude and obnoxiousness are clashing with Hawkeye's serious nature. Dante hopes that they can make it home before the two come to blows.
"Don't be such a stick in the mud, Birdboy. What kind of hillbilly 'mon doesn't know about superheroes?" "Let's draw the line there, little buddy. You've been agitating us the entire time." "So? He questioned my sick dancin' moves." "So, if you're always acting like a butt munch, how are people going to see the real you, and feel your awesomeness?" "Hmm, you make sense for once. And they haven't even seen me fight in a huge battle. I forgive you, Hawkeye, for not fully recognizing and appreciating the awesome-possum-itude that is the Worm King."
Dante figures maybe playing to Wormmon's ego will get him to settle down. A nice meal would also help Wormy and make him less cranky. Kaya is worried about the dangers along the way to Terminus City. Jijimon suggests that Hawkeye go with her, but Hawkeye doesn't want to leave the village and put it at risk.
"We can head to Terminus City when we leave." "Or stay for a while and bash in baddies. Lay down the law." "Do you think Cassius knows about the Wingfruit?" "Well, he is a worm, and not the good kind. Didn't you say he picked this location for our battle?" "He suggested it, and it suits your Champion form well, regardless of that particular outcome. Why would he suggest this area when he could have just come here on his own, if he is after the Wingfruit?" "Think about it. Cassius knows that he can't fight me when we're at full power. So he gets us into an exhibition match at Champion level and cheats to take me out, leaving the village ripe for the picking." "Stop trying to justify your loss. He's a master thief, and could sneak in and out without drawing our attention. Why would he fight us at all and bring us to the spot he is staking out?"
The two would argue about this for some time.
"I'm fine with staying to protect the Wingfruit. Though Kaya should be getting home soon, if she doesn't even have a Digimon partner to defend her." "Shall we dig in? I've been looking forward to trying this Wingfruit. Let's see if Jijimon is the next Iron Chieftain."

The two Digimon truly were not getting along at all. Ever since he showed up, Wormmon has been nothing but an egotistical pain in the ass for Hawkeye. If he wasn't as good as he was, Hawkeye would've shot Wormmon a hundred times by this point. "I have a name, Wormmon. And not all of us have been to the human world, you know!"
"Stop fighting, please," Kaya tried to say to Hawkeye, but the bird Digimon ignored her pleas.
It just kept getting worse from there. Wormmon attempted what he probably thought was an apology, but Hawkeye did not see it as such. To him, the 'apology' was just another way for Wormmon to boast about how apparently awesome he was. "...I am warning you. I've kept my temper for this long, but if you keep stroking your ego like that then we're going to have major problems."
Hawkeye expressed his concerns with leaving the village, causing Dante and Wormmon to both offer to help protect the village in Hawkeye's place. Both he and Jijimon had concerns about this, for different reasons.
"Boys, the distance between here and Terminus City is far too great. You would be here for many days, possibly even a week. I do not want to keep you here for that long."
"I do not trust either of you. We only met today, and I still have my suspicions about you two."
Before anymore could be said on the manner, another interruption was made. This time it was a DemiDevimon flying through, rushing right up to Hawkeye and Jijimon. "Hawkeye! Jijimon! There's a human in the Wingfruit farm! We're being robbed!"
"Damn it, you all were distracting me from my work," Hawkeye spat at the group, grabbing his bow and arrow and running off to the farms to fight the intruder.

It was turning into a game for Dante to keep Wormmon and Hawkeye from getting into it. The archer wasn't far off about Wormmon's ego stroking apology. Jijimon brings up a good point. Terminus City is not a quick trip away. Hawkeye reestablishes his distrust of the duo. While they are discussing the plan, a DemiDevimon comes flying in, warning them that there is a human in the Wingfruit farm. Taking Kaya back would have to wait, as they rush off to deal with this threat.
"Alright, let's kick some butt! They are lucky that I am not fully recovered yet, or their rear would be in for a serious stomping."
When they get there, Dante doesn't see any humans. He does see a Betamon that has several scrapes and bruises. The Tamer examines the ground, dirt kicked up, trampled plants, clear signs of a struggle. The Betamon is panting and breathing heavily, but sees the group and perks his head up.
"A bandit attacked the farm! He ran off into the woods."
There is a trail of footprints leading away. Dante approaches Betamon and examines his wounds.
"You are badly hurt. Will you be alright?" "Ah, I'm roughed up. That bandit attacked me out of nowhere."
Dante pauses to think for a moment. He remembers hearing about bandits being in the forest, but wonders if Cassius could pass as a bandit.
"A bandit?" "That could be Cassius, you guys."
It might be as Dante feared. If Cassius did steal the Wingfruit, it could take weeks to track him down once he has time to flee.
"We have to hurry. It looks like they have already taken some of the fruit."
If it was indeed Cassius, it was bad news for them. Wormmon still hasn't rested enough to Digivolve, and Hawkeye can't Digivolve as far as Dante knows. How would they fare up against Seadramon? Could Cassius be up to something sinister here, and has Dante been playing right into his hand this whole time?

When Hawkeye reached the Wingfruit farm, he looked at the scene in horror. Not only were the Wingfruits all stolen, but the trees were chopped down as well. Their source of income... gone, just like that. The Hawkmon couldn't believe his eyes, and the other villagers were distraught as well.
"It... it's all gone..." Hawkeye gasped, his eyes not being able to escape the sight of the ruined farm.
"The bandit destroyed your crops..." Kaya said, walking up next to Hawkeye. "I am so sorry this happened to you, Hawkeye. Were these crops important?"
"Aye, they were important, young lady," Jijimon said in a somber tone. "The Wingfruit was a lifesource for our village, and now with all the fruit gone, the trees cut down... I fear for this village's future."
Hawkeye couldn't believe what he was hearing. What he had feared had come to pass. Hawkeye couldn't take it anymore. He brought these strangers here and it cost him his village. And not only that, there was this Betamon lying there who no one in the village had seen before. Therefor, they were all suspicious of this Betamon. Especially Hawkeye.
"And where exactly do you come from?" Hawkeye angrily asked, pulling back an arrow and aiming at the injured Betamon.
"Hawkeye, what are you doing?!" Kaya asked, surprised at his behavior. "The bandit's getting away!"
"...you do have a point," Hawkeye growled, putting the arrow back in his quiver. "Dante's right, we need to hurry and find the bandit."

It was worse than Dante expected. Not only was the Wingfruit stolen, the trees had been damaged, leaving the village without the main source of income. Hawkeye suspects the injured Betamon, who no one seems to recognize.
"Oh, I just moved to this village, so that's probably why we haven't met yet, heh heh."
Suspicious indeed. Was Betamon involved somehow?
"Seadramon is a Betamon at Rookie level, but he doesn't seem like the same Digimon." "We don't have time to talk. Come on, let's bust some skulls!"
Wormmon takes off into the woods as fast as his little legs can crawl. Most of his strength has recovered, but he hasn't eaten yet, so he's still not back to normal. Dante runs off into the forest, following the tracks. He can see a figure off in the distance, as he hurries down the dirt trail, jumping over large roots and rocks. If it is Cassius, Dante wants to give him a serious beating.
"Come on, let's pick up the pace." "I'm trying, Dante. You're making me look bad!"
Dante approaches a small ledge and looks out into the forest. He goes to jump across a narrow gap, but suddenly a rope launches up and ensnares his legs. Dante is yanked into the air upside down and dangles there in a trap set by the bandit.
"What the hell?! Can somebody get me down?" "Hang on, Dante! I'm coming." *Puff puff pant pant*
As Wormmon is catching up to Dante, the sound of snarling can be heard coming from some bushes.
"Uh oh, I smell bacon."
Were there other dangers lurking in the forest nearby? Dante wonders if the thief is working with accomplices. With Wormmon stuck at the Rookie stage for now, a battle is not something Dante wants to worry about right now. For now, he's got to figure out how to free himself from the rope.

"Bullshit," Hawkeye told the Betamon, not caring at all that there was a twelve year old girl present with them. "Why would someone move in and have no one notice?"
"He is right, I am afraid," Jijimon said to the Betamon, "when someone moves into our village we have to make sure that they are not threats first. And frankly, I do not remember you at all."
Of course this wasn't discussed further as they had to run into the forest to catch the thief. Kaya couldn't believe how fast things were escalating, but she didn't show it. In fact if anything, she looked more determined than ever. This could be my chance to actually help someone...!
Suddenly Dante runs right into a cleverly hidden trap that was seemingly set by the bandit, ensnaring him and having him dangle right in the air. Hawkeye was about to help get Dante down, but then rustling and snarling was heard in the bushes, Wormmon claiming that he smelled bacon.
"Human girl, what do you think?" Hawkeye asked Kaya, unsure what to do. "Do you want me to shoot at the bushes, or free Dante?"
"Uh... uhhh... Get Dante free!" Kaya panicked after being put on the spot like that.
"Will do." Hawkeye pulled out an arrow and pulled it back with the bow, charging the arrow with green energy and aiming right at the rope. "Energy Arrow!" the bird shouted as he let go of the arrow, causing the arrow to act as a laser and slice right through the leg rope. Hawkeye uses "Energy Arrow" on the trap.

It would seem that Hawkeye and Jijimon would have to sort out the injured Betamon later. It didn't take long while in pursuit for Dante to become ensnared. Hawkeye asks Kaya what he should do. The girl says he should free Dante. With his aim steady, Hawkeye uses his Energy Arrow and hits the rope suspending Dante in the air. Dante's fall is not so graceful. He lands on the ground on the other side of the ledge, landing on his butt. The Tamer reaches for his lower back as he yells in pain.
"Oww! Great job, Hawkeye."
Dante getting caught may have cost them their chance to catch up with the thief. Though the pursuers are not alone, as the snarling is getting louder. A large flaming boar leaps out of the bushes and turns its attention towards Wormmon.
"That is Boarmon, a real hot head."
The Worm King stops and turns around fleeing in terror, but the boar charges towards Wormmon and bucks him with its tusks. Wormmon is sent flying into a tree branch and crash lands hard on the ground.
"Oh my Goddess! What is wrong with this forest?"
Dante's heart sinks as he sees Boarmon trash Wormmon. Dante slips the rope off of his feet and gets up, taking off towards his partner.
"Wormmon! Are you alright?" "That felt like getting hit by Mjolnir." "What the? … I'm surprised you know what that is. Did hitting that tree branch teach you about mythology somehow?" "Don't be stupid. I watch superhero movies." "Fair enough. I'm just glad you are okay, little buddy." "Let's save this for when we're not being attacked by a future BLT."
Dante picks Wormmon up, and his eyes lock with the boar's. Dante gets ready to dodge, but Boarmon turns and charges towards Hawkeye.
"Hawkeye, look out!"

Hawkeye did his best to free the trapped Dante in the best way he knew how: shooting an arrow right at the trap. It was very simple, so a plain old Energy Arrow would cut right through it. And that it did. Dante's fall wasn't too graceful though, landing right onto the ground on his butt. He sarcastically thanked Hawkeye for it. "Just be glad you didn't fall into the pit there."
The Hawkmon was pretty upset; due to this trap, they lost their chance to catch the bandit and give them what they deserved. He would've complained about it more if the wild Digimon didn't appear out of the bushes.
"What the heck is that?!" Kaya asked, stepping back as Hawkeye drew another arrow and aimed it at the intruder. Wormmon thankfully answered. "A 'Boarmon'? Wait, do all you Digimon have the -mon at the end of your names?!"
Wormmon did the pathetic thing and turned around, screaming in terror. Hawkeye rolled his eyes; he was not surprised when the Boarmon rammed into the bug with his horns, crashing him right into a tree. "You know, Wormmon, for such a powerful Digimon you claim to be, you make an amazing punching bag."
"HAWKEYE, LOOK OUT!" Kaya screamed at the same time as Dante. The Digimon turned around and saw the Boarmon charging right at him. Any sane Digimon would've been terrified at this sight.
But not Hawkeye. Alright, hottie, let's dance, Hawkeye thought as he jumped right over Boarmon. While in the air he pulled back his arrow, charging it with blue energy. "Freeze Arrow!" he screamed as he released the arrow. The arrow hit the Boarmon, encasing it in ice. It slid frozen for a few seconds before breaking free... but not before it completely fell off the cliff, presumably to its death.
Hawkeye landed to his grace perfectly, putting away his bow and turning to the others. "You all are still breathing, right?"

For once, Dante was glad that Hawkeye was pointing an arrow in his direction, as the Rookie hit his target and the rope snapped. Apparently, Dante's natural sarcasm was bleeding through, and thanking Hawkeye sounded ingenuine, considering the fall. Dante is grateful that Hawkeye used his bow for something besides intimidation.
Wormmon's cowardice was glowing like a lighthouse, as he attempted to flee from Boarmon. The Worm King's performance so far left much to be desired, and Hawkeye says that he makes a good punching bag.
"A What?! I'll show you. Once I'm done kicking this boar's butt, you better watch yourself, bird brain."
Kaya was scared at the sight of this rampaging boar, and it makes sense why. Wild monsters attacking isn't a normal occurrence, unless you are in the Digital World. Dante sees why Kaya would be stressed out. It felt odd for Dante to be around someone who is new to Digimon, as it has been a few years since he first found out about them.
Hawkeye does what Wormmon couldn't. The archer stands his ground and fights the Boarmon. Hawkeye freezes the boar on the side of the cliff, and as the ice is melting, Boarmon falls down the cliff, thus taking care of the wild beast.
"I could have done that if I was at full health. Good job, Hawkeye. I guess you do know what you are doing with that bow."
Dante raises his arms out and stretches his shoulders, as he glances around for signs of the thief.
"Maybe we can still catch up. It looks like he was heading that direction. Do you know what is over there, Hawkeye?"
Now that the boar was dealt with, the group still had to figure out what they are going to do about the missing Wingfruit. Dante suspects that it was Cassius, but isn't sure. If it is, it gives him all the more motivation to make him pay. They could go after the thief now, or return and question the injured Betamon. Beyond that, there wasn't much they could do to recover the stolen fruit. They also still have to figure out what to do with Kaya. Do they return her to the Human World after they deal with the thief? Would she be able to survive in the Digital World long enough for Hawkeye to escort her home?

"You heard me," Hawkeye said with a smirk, responding to Wormmon's angry comments about being called a punching bag. "And I'm totally sure that you'll both show me AND beat the Boarmon that you ran away from." Hawkeye was amazed at how contradictory Wormmon really was, both boasting to be the most powerful Digimon out there and running away from a fight at the same time.
Pathetic.
Kaya watched in awe as the bird-like Digimon stepped up and did what the Wormmon couldn't. He managed to actually fight off the flaming pig on his own terms, even though it seemed to be a lot stronger than Hawkeye. Hawkeye used his Freeze Arrow attack to defeat the Boarmon with style. "Is... is that thing dead?"
"Probably not?" Hawkeye said with a shrug. He glared at Wormmon once more when he bragged about being able to defeat the Boarmon under different circumstances. "You. Shut up. Now."
Now was the problem of trying to catch up with the bandit again. Dante spoke up and said that he saw the bandit go in a certain direction. When Hawkeye looked to the direction that the human pointed, he knew exactly where he was going. "That leads to the same lake I found you on! We must go!"

It was a good thing that Hawkeye dealt with the Boarmon with Wormmon in his current condition. After defeating the Digimon that Wormmon said he would beat, Hawkeye turns to the Worm King and tells him to shut up. Dante sighs, wishing that were a possibility every now and then.
"Hmph! You got lucky. You're not the boss of me, you filthy bird." "Okay, stop taunting Hawkeye, little buddy. He's a bird, you're a worm, and things don't generally work out so well for the worm when those two mix it up." "I am not a worm, I am THE worm, the Worm King. And I identify as more of a hybrid between a caterpillar and a spider, if you must know." "Alright, fine. I apologize for assuming your species."
Now that the boar is dealt with, the group is free to carry on. Hawkeye recognizes the direction Dante motioned towards. The thief must be heading towards a lake nearby where the dastardly duo first met Hawkeye. At this point, they don't know if the thief is working with accomplices, or how many for that manner. However, Wormmon isn't exactly in the mood to help anymore.
"This is stupid! I'm all about kicking butt, but I haven't even had a meal all day. Why are we helping these treebillies again?" "We will get some food later. Right now, we need to track down the bandit. We are helping because Hawkeye's village needs the Wingfruit to survive." "What do you care about the village for? All they have done so far is point arrows at us. Stop being so soft, Dante." "Look, you lazy spiderpillar, we're recovering the Wingfruit, and you are in no condition to say otherwise."
Dante reaches down and picks up Wormmon, holding him tightly in his arms. Wormy squirms around, but Dante won't let him go. What must Kaya think about the bizarre relationship between the Tamer and the scrappy Digimon?
"Let me go! I'm gonna bite you." "Don't make me get a cat carrier and throw you inside." "Ahh! Okay, I'll be chill. Just don't put me in a tiny little portable jail cell again. I'm a claustrophobic bug."
With Wormmon finally ready to play ball, the four of them are ready to head to the lake. With any luck, they would find the thief.
