While it was true that the couple had bid their goodbyes to Lantis and Leith due to the sun hiding under the horizon, there was one detail not missing to Amelie while she and Asher slowly made their way back from the beach to Whitewater proper.
Her expression was thoughtful, even if her disposition wasn't quite cheerful. "So, what do you think about the date? It was certainly... interesting, wasn't it?" Those words were as measured as they could be, almost as if they had been calculated, so to say. "I think I must be in love with the sound of my own voice, considering I constantly decided to fill the air with it. Does that make bad at conversation? Those two probably got tired of me blabbering, considering how the conversation overall went."
Had it really been a conversation? To Amy, it felt like an interrogation; a rather one-sided interrogation, at it. "Realized I ended up not knowing a whole lot about them. Kind of a pity, isn't it?"
Were those actual depressive thoughts? As much as the teenager wanted to say to herself that she was mistaken, it clicked on her mind all too soon, the truth was that... "I don't know a lot about you either, now that I think about it. I'm probably the lousiest girlfriend in the world or something."
Now, that was depressing, up to the point where Amy seemed visibly upset, Luckily, she was the type to bounce back rather quickly from such thoughts. Crying over it would've been sad, anyway. "But I'll make up for it, I promise." Once again, she seemed to be deep in thought, at least until an idea seemed to invade her head. "It should be pretty early in the Human World at the moment. What if we go back and you introduce me to your family? I've been meaning to meet Whiskers for a while, anyway! What do you say?"
At least in her mind, the idea was flawless, but if anything had been taught to the brunette today, that was with her thoughts and what others thought weren't necessarily the same all the time. In any case, if Asher accepted, they probably had some things to take care of first. For example, changing into legitimate clothes to walk through Tokyo, or setting a Digiport in a place where the couple wouldn't be easily discovered after exiting the Digital World.
After all, if the rumors held any truth, those DATS guys were really severe with things like that.

After leaving their double date, Asher would try to take Amy's hand while she talked. Maybe, he could sense some stress coming from the girl. Or, he just wanted to be a good boyfriend and hold her hand. Who really knew? "I don't think it was bad," the redhead stated to the 'question' that was presented. "Maybe they were just nervous about being on a double date?" Some people froze up when other people were around! And, Leith didn't seem like he was overly used to being public with his relationship! At least, from what Asher could figure. Maybe he was wrong on that assumption, though!
"I mean, I like the sound of your voice," the redhead joked. "Maybe minus three-to-six children, though," he'd add after a second, "I don't know if I can handle that many diapers in my future." Hopefully, Amy could agree on that! If not, they'd probably need to have a talk about children far earlier than the average couple! Then again, that egg they'd found made the children thing even more complicated than the average couple, too.
But, before he could think of a response to Amelie's comment on not knowing much about their double date participants, she was already onto another observation. She really didn't know much about him. And, he didn't know too much about her either, in that regard. "You're not a lousy girlfriend," he was quick to reassure. It wasn't like they'd really dated long enough to give her a million things to know about him! And, considering how well he'd followed up after their first 'date' forever ago, was it any surprise that he hadn't really told her much?
Not that he had much time to think of how to rectify this, when Amy had already found a solution! "My family?" Asher repeated back, almost incredulously. She wanted to meet his family? Why was that so weird? That was a normal couple thing to do! "I'm not sure who's going to be home today, but if that's what you want," he responded, giving her hand a squeeze. "Just, remember Whiskers is a cat, and my family will think you're crazy if you try to have an actual conversation with her while they're there," he added, teasingly. Sure, talking to pets was pretty normal, but actually expecting them to respond back? Not so much.
But, it was hard to say if any of his family was even home. Hopefully, Amy wouldn't be horribly disappointed if they weren't. At least Whiskers would probably be there!
Once they'd had a change of clothes, Asher would help find a nearby location to his home that was fairly safe to randomly pop a portal to. Once it opened, Amy would surely recognize the area as a more 'upper-class' portion of Shibuya, with moderately fancy houses, and some extremely fancy ones! Maybe to her dismay, or relief, the redhead would try to take Amy's hand again, and lead her to one that didn't quite reach 'mansion' title, but was still fit the general 'theme' of the housing cost for the area.
At the door, the teen pulled a key out, not even bothering to check if it had been locked, before unlocking it, and began to twist the handle. But, after only an inch of opening the door, he spun to have his back to it. Hand still rested on the handle, while the redhead stared at his girlfriend, mouth curving into a playful smile. "I'll give you one chance to back out. Are you sure you want to come inside?"

Of course her hand was taken, and of course that Amelie appreciated the gesture. After all, she had been the one to unilaterally declare that Asher was her boyfriend at a point during the date just to essentially try to irk Lantis after that unfortunate comment he made. The brunette wasn't in a position to complain about anything.
Especially not about something she liked!
Amy sighed. He was probably right. "I guess that one of them really wanted to have a double date and the other ended up agreeing? But that doesn't mean he's gotta try and have fun? Or... I don't know, really." By now, she wasn't even expecting an answer to her questions. She just felt confused; while those actions might have an explanation, they just escaped her understanding, or heavily clashed with her mindset.
Had the girl been a computer, she would be displaying a logic error by now! At any rate, at least the redhead had proven to be proficient at calming her down. His suggestion sounded correct; better to just ignore what had happened and move on. It wasn't like she was forced to form ties with everyone she met. It was a somewhat hard pill to swallow, but the fact remained that, regardless of the disposition they could have to each other, some people just didn't click together.
Hard to understand, but true nonetheless. Ultimately, Amy's face began to show hints of a small smile forming there. "I don't know how you do it, but I think you're quite good at balancing your speech before it turns too sappy. I'm not very good at it myself, as you might've seen." At least in her manner of speech, and generally regarding how she felt, the brunette tended to be a pretty intense person. Her emotions were out there, at plain sight for everyone to observe, and frankly? They were on the strong end of the spectrum more often than not.
"I agree there, though. I personally have no plans for kids until after graduating at least. Considering I've spent most of my life studying, I'd like to at least have a couple of years of fun before deciding I want to be a babysitter for eighteen years at least, you know? We're probably gonna have more than enough with the egg, and that's having into account that digimons grow pretty fast... and that they don't need diapers, I think!"
It was going to be an interesting adventure, to say the least! Considering that the only thing they knew about the egg was that it was likely going to be a from species that was thought extinct for the longest time, meaning that it'd likely resemble an eel. No more, and definitely no less. At least from that moment onward, the atmosphere took a more lighthearted note; at least for now, being called 'not lousy', was enough for her to cheer up. She'd have preferred a compliment instead of that, but considering how Asher was... good enough.
What about the plan that the brunette had concocted in less than a minute? A surprise visit to somebody's house was something that could be taken really badly, especially since this was pretty much the equivalent of going to his place uninvited, and for a reason that could be accurately be mistaken as less than genuine. Surprisingly, Asher seemed to be okay at the prospect, barring a bit of the initial surprise. A relatively bashful response ensued, prompting Amelie's expression to become sly for a couple of instants. "I mean. If the worst case happens and nobody is home, I can cook you dinner, and then we can buy popcorn or ice cream and watch a movie together. At least to me, it sounds like a pretty good evening."
Not to say that it'd be a well-deserved rest from what had otherwise been an exhausting day. "And don't worry about Whiskers. I'm aware that digimon aren't supposed to talk in the presence of humans that don't know about them! A Digital Masquerade of sorts, isn't it? So, just a normal cat if other people are present!"
The next fifteen-to-twenty minutes passed rather quickly; getting changed into a proper, yet casual outfit and making sure that the portal location's in Japan wouldn't cause a commotion. In the blink of an eye, Amelie was holding Asher's hand, all while standing in front of the threshold of a house she wasn't familiar with.
Was Amy nervous? Of course, she was, but she was also very, very happy about the development. Ultimately, she took a moment to close her eyes and exhale while squeezing her boyfriend's hand. When she opened her eyes, they immediately focused on the redhead, just as their owner beamed. "I'm sure, but..." Definitely a pause for dramatic effect; those were all too easy to identify. "I wouldn't mind a peck to build confidence before entering!"
Talk about strange demands at strange times!

It was hard to theorize on the full events of the date. Asher wouldn't dwell too hard on it, but it definitely seemed like Amy was distressed about it! "Or, one of them is shy," he suggested, as a more friendly option. "I can't imagine a Digimon-Human relationship is really common. Maybe they thought we'd judge?" Because, sure, it was a different setup than Asher was used to seeing, at least! But, as someone who turned into several monsters, he didn't really figure there was too much room to judge on a person dating a lion-man.
How did he temper his speeches, though? Good question! "I like the passion behind everything you say," he hummed, giving a small shrug. While maybe that was considered 'intense' to some, it apparently didn't bother the ex-actor all that much! Maybe, it was something to admire, even. "'Balancing my speech' might come from growing up with acting, though," the teen mused. He hadn't really thought much about his speech, but it would make sense, right? Among other reasons, surely.
"I'm glad," was his instant response to hearing Amy's 'plans' for children. Or lack of. "Egg aside, I'm not ready for parenting for a long time." Or ever, maybe! He wasn't so sure. "I really hope whatever hatches doesn't need diapers, though. Those things are expensive!" And gross. Another thing he wasn't ready for was full diapers. Cringe.
What was the baby Digimon going to eat, too? Would it need special food? Baby food? Human food? Random furniture? Eels probably ate fish, but would that be what this little monster wanted? Then again, what if it hatched to be not-so-little? Digimon were deceiving, and it certainly wouldn't be surprising if their eggs came in the wrong sizes sometimes, too!
Amy's alternative to their afternoon, if nobody was home, sounded pretty alright, too! "You want to cook?" Asher questioned back what he felt was the most interesting part of the offer. Was Amy a good cook? Was she just playing around? Asher wouldn't even complain if they just ordered a pizza or something!
At least with Amy's confirmation that she knew not to talk to someone's 'pet cat' too seriously, Asher wouldn't be too worried if other people actually were home! Though, he had to admit that he wasn't really sure how anyone believed Whiskers to be normal. How hadn't he realized it, before establishing Digimon's existence? Was it just that the idea that the feline could be an alien was just too strange to even be a possibility?
Now that they were in front of the door, there wasn't much point to think further on it. Was the girl actually nervous? She actually looked like she might be, despite this being her suggestion! Then again, did Amelie actually think Asher was going to buy into the suggestion to meet his family? "To build confidence, huh?" Asher gave a small snicker. "If that's all you need," he trailed off, leaning to press his lips to Amy's. After a moment, he pulled back and added, "maybe I should ask you for that any time I need confidence. Think it'd work?"
Trying to subdue a grin, the young man finally pushed on the door handle enough to fully open it, before turning and crossing the threshold. The first room entered was the kitchen, which seemed relatively spacious and... completely void of people! Then again, that probably wouldn't be very surprising. If nobody was hungry, there wasn't much point in lingering in this room!
After Amy entered, the teen would close and lock the door, before leading his date through one of the archways that opened into the living area. A television on the wall buzzed with some sort of news program, while a couch was pressed against the adjacent wall, with a coffee table dragged far too close to the cushions. There wouldn't be much wonder to the table's placement, considering a girl was curled on the couch, book in hand, with tea and a variety of snacks within arm's reach due to it! And, next to the girl, was none other than the cat that Amy was dying to meet! Except, for the time being, it seemed that Whiskers was asleep. Or pretending to be. Cats were weird about feigning sleep.
Either way, neither even looked up to see who had entered the room. If this was a robbery, the two would be doomed. "Hey, Pip. Are Dad and Holly home?"
"Mmm-no. They left like twenty or thirty minutes ago." Still no acknowledgement was made beyond this. Instead, she kept buried in the book well enough that she didn't even notice multiple people in the room! "Why did you need them, any--" Finally, bright yellow eyes lifted up from her book, and immediately zoned in on the other girl in the room. "Oh." This 'statement' lacked the enthusiasm that Asher had hoped for, but he'd just chalk it up to her being distracted. Whiskers still pretended to be asleep for this acknowledgement, however, and only twitched an ear to better listen.
Giving an awkward grin to Amy, Asher figured he may as well get on with introductions! Even if there only was one family member in the house! "This is Amelie," he started, giving a small gesture, "she's my girlfriend." Did that feel weird to say? Definitely. But, it was a good kind of weird! "And, uh, this is Piper. My little sister."
The 'girlfriend' term had successfully gotten the attention of both couch-hogs, though! Whiskers eyes opened immediately on the term, cross-pupils narrowing a bit. Where as Piper tucked her thumb into her book to keep her page, but had otherwise closed it. "Girlfriend?" As if the hand-holding wasn't enough to process that, she waited to see if Amy would confirm or deny the title. But, as if remembering her manners at the last second, she added, "nice to meet you?"
Hopefully, that 'confidence kiss' a bit ago was enough to make Amy alright with being in the spotlight!
Either way, Asher would gesture to a loveseat that created an "L" shape alongside the end of the couch, leaning closer to the brunette, "do you want to sit down?" It had to beat standing in a doorway, right?

Amelie shook her head at Asher's implication. She could empathize with shyness to some degree, but... "I don't think they were shy, honestly; if they avoided certain topics, it was because they were confident enough to not want to speak about them. I honestly think they weren't very interested in us. But that's fine, I think! It's their loss in the end."
Truth was that, while Lantis hadn't spared words to say how amazing and many other adjectives his boyfriend was, Amy could have done a similar number if... anyone had bothered to ask, to be honest. But since such an act without somebody showing at least a mild amount of interest was undue, that's where things remained. The whole gathering felt heavily strained, and that wasn't the kind of atmosphere she enjoyed for a casual hang out. Sure, amid a fight to the death or when negotiating with a warmongering city-state in the Dark Area, that'd be fine, but on a double date?
Prooobably not. Those were for relaxing, not for stressing!
"I think we made it pretty clear that we weren't judging anyone. Heck, I'd probably win the 'Hypocrite of the Year' award if I judged anyone for anything. But I digress, I guess; that topic is footprints in the sand by now. In a week or so, what happened at the beach will be little more than a vague memory."
That was a surprisingly pessimistic way to see the experience, but what else could she say? Both groups had, in all honesty, barely interacted, and the brunette was sure that no lasting tie between either party was formed, or even threatened to form. In other words, chances were that they probably wouldn't see each other again. Or any time soon, at least.
At least, the topic naturally shifted into something way more pleasant than that, like how Amy admired Asher's ability to temper the way he talked, or how he appreciated her 'passion' when speaking. It was a nice compliment, all things considered; the brunette knew that her words could be quite inflammatory at times, but usually it was too late by the time she began talking. It was as if the flames in her mind just kept on fanning themselves. Maybe she could learn moderation from him, at some point? Adopting a somewhat conciliatory tone would probably help Amelie greatly down the line. But, once again... that wasn't important at the moment; there would be plenty of time to think about that in the future.
Understandably so, Amy was relieved when her boyfriend echoed her desire to hold off kids for as long as possible. Her current mindset dictated that the best years of one's life were too short, and too precious to be spent taking care of others instead of using those for yourself. Selfish? Yes, but it wasn't like birthing a child was an act of selflessness either, so things were more or less even in that regard. "We couldn't agree more, I feel. There's a lot of things I'd want to do before settling down. And changing diapers is not one of them!"
Then again, how did you put a diaper on an eel? Was that even possible? An interesting question, even if one that would ultimately remain unanswered for the time being. Unlike cooking; the mention of the topic made the girls' eyes gleam. Asher had no idea about the kind of beast he had awoken. "Is that something bad?" She asked coyly. "I'm not sure on what I'll find in your house's kitchen, but if you don't mind me doing it, then I'd be happy to! It'd be the most fitting way to end Valentine's day, don't you think?"
Being the sister of three relatively useless siblings in the kitchen had actually managed to convert Amelie into a fairly decent cook, mostly because her mom finally had somebody interested in helping her in the kitchen. Add to that that she was a student living off a somewhat limited budget, and the truth was that she had enough practice under her belt to feel confident about her skills. At least regarding her tastes, that is! Unless Asher's differed wildly, then things would probably end up in a satisfactory note. And that wasn't to say that she could apply at least three sayings to that situation!
Regrettably, however, Amy didn't have enough time to mentally repeat them; soon enough, the duo found themselves at the entrance. Was it normal for a person to feel nervous in a situation like this one, even when the plan had been their idea? The brunette concluded that yes, it was probably fine to feel at least a bit nervous. But she managed to steel herself quickly enough! In part thanks to her own efforts, but mostly because of the affectionate gesture she received and was promptly returned. It served to reassure her about the fact that everything would be okay, as corny as that was.
How bad could this be, especially when compared to the many perils the Digital World had? Amelie's expression relaxed, slowly turning into her usual, calm smile. "Well~." She commented, flashing a brief smirk. "At least on my side, I can say it worked pretty well! You could try asking as soon as you need a boost in confidence and check out for yourself; I wouldn't mind lending you some if needed."
Time to get in. First room? Totally empty, even if quite expansive! Was it bigger than her whole apartment? Probably not, even though the fact that it had made the brunette doubt was already quite telling of its size! Would it be rude for her to try and examine the room before moving into the next? Considering her career of choice, she was very interested in things like how it had been designed and how the space was distributed. Ultimately, she resolved for doing that the next time. Or if her plan of cooking was approved.
Second room! None other than the lounge! For a second, Amy thought that the same procedure would repeat once again, but before her gaze could set on the room's architecture, it stumbled into the two other living beings currently occupying her room. A girl, who she assumed was Asher's sister, and an obviously-not-Tawna-nor-Mae Meicoomon, which probably was Whiskers!
For a moment, Amelie remained silent while the siblings exchanged greetings, even though the girl didn't seem to be that into the conversation. Her book must have been very interesting, mostly because she hadn't even noticed the presence of a newcomer... until, after a couple of questions. And in a rather comical way, to boot.
The redhead's gesture was reciprocated with a small shrug, just before the introductions began. Maintaining her usual smile, bright yellow eyes met Amy's deep blues. What would be Piper thoughts about her? Had the brunette given her a good first impression? Guess she'd find out soon enough.
"Yup. I'm his girlfriend." She nodded at the question, only to vaguely quirk an eyebrow at how... strange the female redhead's greeting was. It almost didn't sound genuine! But maybe that was just her being picky. "Nice to meet you two as well. Hope you don't mind me joining you for the evening."
It was a new environment, and somehow, the atmosphere was a bit tenser than predicted; still, Amy thought she could handle this without issue. She nodded once again, and waited for Asher to lead her to their ultimate sitting destination. Once there, she tried to ease her nerves a bit, before finally speaking. "What book were you reading? Considering how enraptured you were, it must be pretty interesting!"
A pretty simple icebreaker. Hopefully that'd help!

At this point, Asher was well aware that there was no point to disagree with Amy's stance on the date. There was that 'passion' or 'intensity' thing that she had, after all! Plus, there was no point dwelling on theories regarding people that neither of them knew very well. As far as forgetting about it? There was a small comment of, "I kind of hope so." After all, it wasn't like the date was much to remember, other than almost choking to death on a drink. With his date so bitter about the whole event, it definitely seemed best to forget the entire thing ever happened.
On the bright side, their stance on children were pretty much the same! That was a relief! The only concern they would have on it would be if eel-babies needed diapers, and how to put one on such a creature! If it needed one at all. Asher, personally, hoped it was born potty-trained. Or just without a need to use bathrooms at all. If it actually hatched, that was.
For now, there were other things to worry about. For instance, Amy's cooking! Was she a good cook? Would she actually just try to poison Asher for taking her on a bad double date? "It's only bad if you try to make me choke on food," he answered, with a smirk. After all, the drink had been a trap! What if the food was, too? "But, if you want to cook, I'm not going to tell you no," the redhead added. Why would he? If someone actually wanted to make food for him, for their date, there was no reason to refuse!
Just like there was no reason to refuse 'confidence' in the form of kissing. Which, strangely! Seemed to work! The brunette definitely didn't sound nervous, at least! "I'll keep that in mind," Asher hummed, trying not to laugh at the idea. Surely, one of them would be able to 'abuse' that system, but couples kissing frequently wasn't unheard of anyway. That would just be ridiculous!
With the first room empty, hopefully Amelie could keep that confidence up once she had met the inhabitants of the second room! If only Asher knew how interested she was in the layout of the house, rather than the people inside of it! Maybe, he'd have let her linger in the kitchen longer! But, for now, she was stuck in the situation of meeting the family. Or, the part of the family that was actually present. And, Piper was probably going to test just how much confidence Amy was given for the situation!
If it didn't sound genuine, it probably wasn't, after all. "I don't care if you're here," she stated, with little-to-no enthusiasm still, "I'm probably leaving soon, anyway. "
"Do you have a date?" Asher immediately had to question, while leading Amy to the loveseat.
"God no. I don't buy into this 'holiday.' Being single doesn't mean I have to sit inside all night, though. That would just be depressing." Well, hopefully Amy wasn't hoping that she could bond with any love of... well... love!
Once Amy was seated, Asher would pause before doing the same. "Do you want something to drink?" And, if she agreed, it would be followed up with, "anything specific?" Even a response on if she wanted a hot or cold drink would be appreciated! But, he was well aware that she wouldn't know the full options of beverages, since she hadn't had much time in the kitchen!
Meanwhile, Whiskers would unfurl, stretching her legs, before rising onto all fours. For anyone that knew Meicoomons, and that they usually were bipedal, it was probably a strange sight. Slowly, the feline would inch across the couch, climb onto the arm of it, and lean toward Amy to try to examine her. Stupid cat rules, where cats couldn't talk. Maybe after Piper left, she'd get the chance to. Or not, depending on what type of person Amy was!
For now, there was a question that needed answered from the little sister! "The Odyssey. It's funny, there are some characters in it that you might empathize with." A groan could easily be heard from Asher's throat, while his sister continued on, placidly, "they're called Sirens." Yep, there it was. "Are you good at singing? They use their--"
"I'm sure she knows where you're going with this. She's not a--"
"Okay, how about a gold d--"
"Stop." This probably wasn't how Amy was expecting any of this to go! Was it how Asher had? Considering he didn't give her any warning, hopefully not!
It clearly wasn't how Piper was expecting things to go, either, as she almost looked hurt when interrupted! Giving a sharp exhale, the redhead girl scrunched her nose. Eyes kept focused on Amy's, clearly not interested in her brother defending anyone. "So, what do you do? Model, 'hand' model, actress, work for a magazine? Stalk people for a living?" It seemed that on Piper's list of possible careers, being a student just wasn't one of them! "How'd you meet my brother?" Surely the 'stalking' and 'meeting her brother' questions weren't connected at all! Right?
If Amy felt like she was the one interrogating people earlier, it must feel pretty odd to be the interrogated now!

At least, the cooking plan seemed like a possibility! Of course, the condition imposed was somewhat expected given the previous experience Asher had with Amy's offers for food. "I swear I'm not gonna try to choke you ever again." She said, rather solemnly. "As long as you don't make lobster jokes ever again. Hope we have a deal!"
Could this be the brunette's attempt at trying to control the redhead's life, like those over-jealous girlfriends who tried to dictate how their boyfriends should behave and act? Or maybe it was because the lobster jokes weren't fun to anyone, even their target audience? Granted, making those two laugh was probably a futile endeavor, but still... better to forget about it.
"I like cooking." She remarked, absolutely sure of her words. "I feel comfortable in a kitchen, and I like others enjoying what I cook. Mom always used to say that something along the lines of 'As long as you do your best effort and cook with the intent of everyone having a good time at the table, there's no dish too hard to prepare. Those smiles are worth it'. Mom's a bit quirky, but I like to believe those words are true."
After exchanging offers to lend the other 'self-confidence' whenever necessary, the couple found themselves inside the house and seated in a rather comfortable couch, and after exchanging some greetings, Amelie was suddenly in the receiving end of a combination... of not very nice comments coming from Piper. Still far from offensive, and not nearly enough to crack the girl's smile. Would she quip into the brotherly exchange, or just keep silent? For now, she decided for the latter, at least until she was offered a drink.
Considering that, moments ago, she was drinking alcohol mid-beach, it was probably for the best to take it easy for now. "A glass of water with some ice would be lovely. Thank you." Always courteous in the face of the gentlemanly offer, Asher disappearing into the kitchen would probably mean some time alone with his sister. What would happen then?
A small sigh of relief ensued as soon as the house's other occupant seemed to at least display a measure of interest in her. Amy's eyes would focus on Whiskers' form, and a hand would slowly reach to the cat's head. Would she accept some headpats, or was that something that only dogs were supposed to enjoy? At times like this one, she wished she understood animals a little more.
Or Pipers, for that matter! Before she could comment on the Greek Classic, the two brothers were already fighting over her potential nature as a siren! While the initial comments managed to hurt her a bit, she was made out of tougher stuff than that. Advantages of a surprise attack? At least Piper was witty on that regard!
Amy heaved a sigh. "It's fine, Asher. If she wants to talk, let her talk. Or, at least, let me defend myself? I appreciate what you're doing, but..." She wasn't going to say it, but chances were that she needed to prove herself or something to those effects. And Asher playing the role of the knight there was probably influencing Piper's opinion already.
It wasn't like she didn't appreciate the redhead having her back. It was just that the situation at hand was... tricky. She made a pause, then spoke once again. "I've read the Odyssey, even though mine was in French. It's a good book!"
The brunette tried to measure her tone, and especially not to raise her voice over the usual. "I'm an amateur at best at singing, though. So... if I get to be one of the monsters there, I could be Scylla! I've always thought her tale was pretty cool, even if a little tragic. But if you gotta go through a bit of tragedy to eat as many sailors as you want, I'd say it's worth it."
Now, what about all the other questions? They were quite a handful, so Amelie went through them as orderly as she could. At least she could handle the interrogation way better than direct insults. In a sense, this was almost like an exam! "Let me see. I'm in an exchange program, and, currently studying at Tokyo University. I'm majoring Architecture, and I'm about to begin my second year there, so I have at least three or four more years left, given everything going smoothly." One done, one to go. "We met at Miyashita. I go there every now and then because there are board games set up there in the afternoon. I was waiting for an opponent at chess and he sat. Regrettably, we couldn't finish because things got really weird. Then, we met again due to chance at a shopping mall on a rainy day. That's when we exchanged contact information."
A pretty weird coincidence, especially considering that the third time they met, it had also been by chance! But given that the encounter had been in the Digital World, best to not mention it. "That was roughly... a bit more than a year ago. Hope the answer's good enough!"
Had she passed the exam? Chances were that this was just the beginning, but that was okay. "Any exciting plans for tonight? Dinner, movies, an arcade? Or maybe even a karaoke bar? I've been to those a few times. They are fun."
One thing was for sure. The brunette wouldn't just answer all the questions without asking some back.

If Asher had to give up lobster jokes to avoid choking to death, he supposed it was a sacrifice that had to be made. "Fine," he responded, with an exaggerated huff. Was it really that bad of a deal? Not at all. In fact, Asher probably wouldn't have opportunities for many lobster jokes in the future, anyway!
Unless she was going to make lobster someday. Would she kill him with a lobster, if he made a lobster joke in that situation? It was better not to test it. "I've never heard a saying like that," he hummed, "but, it doesn't seem like a bad one." Weren't all parents kind of quirky? Surely, some more than others! But, if that made Amy want to cook food, he wasn't going to judge it at all!
Once they were in conversation, and Asher had established what to get his date, he only lingered long enough to receive the next request of not interrupting his sister's rude remarks. Biting his tongue for a second, the young man exhaled. Should he apologize? While it seemed proper to, it also really didn't. "Alright," he murmured, leaning to briefly kiss his date's temple. Of course, before exiting the room to get a drink, he'd add, "normally, Piper doesn't act like this."
"And, normally you don't touch women," was the immediate quip, as Asher left for the kitchen. As he did, though, the younger sister reached onto the table to grab a bookmark, slipped it into the book, and then dropped The Odyssey next to her tea.
Instead, she'd focus on the conversation. French? Why would someone read The Odyssey in French, of all languages? Granted, Piper's version was in English, which didn't really suit living in Japan. Someone else had taken interest in this statement, too, though! Whiskers had her face nudged into Amy's hand, more than content with receiving pats or scritches. But, with this new statement, the cat let out a chirp, adjusted her footing and... hopped from the couch arm onto Amy's lap! Hopefully Amelie wasn't allergic to cats!
Though, with Sirens out of the question, apparently Scylla was the next best choice. "I'm not sure if you're making a compelling argument, considering my brother would probably be your current prey." Didn't Scylla need six men? Did Piper actually want to get into that part? Probably not. Maybe that was one aspect that she really didn't want to know about.
The fact that Amy was legitimately answering the questions posed was a bit of a surprise, though! Architecture seemed like an odd choice for a career, considering all of the assumptions that Piper had already placed on Amy's job choices. Could architecture combine with stalking for a career? It was too far-fetched to bother debating. Was this girl actually normal? Luckily the brunette didn't mention having three 'random' encounters with Asher, instead of two, since it would definitely begin to raise the red flags! "He played chess with you?" This warranted a small snicker, "he's not actually good at chess." Luckily, nobody had to be good to enjoy the game! But, did that mean Asher actually initiated conversations with this girl?
Ugh, her 'stalker' theory was starting to get difficult to stick to. Unless Amelie had the ability to use mind control or something, there wasn't much chance that Asher would approach her if he was the one being stalked! About a year, though? Hm...
First, she'd focus on the question posed to her. "Going to watch a movie, I think. I'm staying the night at a friend's. Her boyfriend decided that he wanted to be single for Valentine's day, and she's doing that thing from romance-or-drama movies. Where they get a gallon of ice cream and cry into it." And, with it actually being a day where couples were supposed to be together, it was probably so much worse to be alone today!
"So, you said a bit over a year," Piper must have decided it was her turn again! And, she probably had a couple more seconds before Asher would return from the kitchen. "Are you the reason Asher's, like, never home, then?" The timeline would match up pretty well, after all.
And, to this question, Whiskers twitched her ears and gave a very convincing, "mrrow?" as if to further inquire! Or, maybe she was just a cat that wanted to join in on the conversation, too!

Well, if one thing could be said about the situation it was that Piper was feisty, even if one interesting tidbit had been revealed on that last exchange. Asher didn't normally touch women. For an instant, Amelie looked genuinely surprised at that sentence, even if, after a couple of seconds, the biggest and dumbest smile ever was plastered in her face. At least for those moments, if Piper's intent was to piss her off, she had accomplished the exact opposite!
Whiskers, on the other hand, had managed to be an utterly adorable cat for the time being. As soon as a positive response had been displayed in the face of her first advances, the brunette would begin to caress the Meicoomon's body with way more confidence. Nevermind the fact that she would just leap into her lap and make herself comfortable.
"Awwww." Despite the previous barrage of questions and personal attacks, the old saying remained true. Sometimes, cats were all the remedy you needed. At least that seemed to be the case with Amy, who now was spoiling Whiskers. Rotten. "You're a good girl, aren't you~?"
Of course, the fact that she was spoiling the cat didn't mean that she wouldn't stop paying attention to Pip's comments! "I mean, yeah. My argument's not compelling at all, but... if you were given the choice to be one measly harpy-like being with a nice voice, or what amounts to a massive aquatic hydra. What would you pick? I feel like Scylla is way cooler! And since the two of them would probably end up murdering and then eating your brother, it isn't like I'm losing a whole lot, to be honest."
Guess that, by now, Piper would guess that this was how Amy's brain operated. Sure, its logic wasn't very sound, but that was just how things were! "Besides, the role of Penelope is so boring that I almost fell asleep while reading what was up at Ithaca during Ulysses' trip. Just wait for twenty years until her husband gets back from waging war; truly, a classic Greek heroine, lameness included and all. Would rather be any monster from the book than her. They all had more interesting lives."
At least for now, the conversation was taking a more lighthearted note. At least momentarily! For some reason, any situation felt way less tense when you had a fluffy cat sitting in your lap. She nodded when asked about chess. It was funny how all their first encounters had produced, apparently by the workings of mere chance or Dice-tan's doing.
Yet, that didn't make them any less enjoyable... much unlike the situation the younger girl had found herself in. "A sudden breakup? That's horrible, even though that means the guy wasn't worth a lot to begin with." She sentenced, her acquiring seriousness that had been otherwise lacking. "Hope you can help her feel better. I'm sure she wants to be with her friends right now. Have fun!"
Whether that outing ended up in actual fun or not would depend heavily on the other girl's disposition, she reckoned. Sometimes, they just wanted to cry all night long. Others, they decided to let loose. In any case, Amy didn't envy Piper's place. At all.
Not nearly enough time to dwell there, however. Once again, the redhead was proving that she was pretty sharp. And unaware regarding the nature of digimons; that was somewhat interesting! Up to that moment, the brunette hadn't been sure on whether she was in the know or not, but at least this confirmed it.
She grinned haughtily. Despite her otherwise conciliatory tone, it wasn't like Amy was forced to be a saint or anything of the sort. Some payback was due. "Why, wouldn't it be nice if I told you the answer to that?" Her tone, combined with how she was petting Whiskers at the moment probably made her look like the villain of some corny superhero movie. "Pity I won't. But at least you look like a smart girl; I'm sure you'll find out by yourself eventually. Or maybe you could try asking your brother, or Whiskers even! On a good day, and if they feel like it, any of the two could tell you the answer."
This wouldn't benefit her relationship with Piper any, but it was also true that the redhead's initial comments hadn't either. Probably not a smart thing to do, but... it wasn't like it was her place to answer personal questions about Asher. Things like where he went was something he would have to disclose on his own. Or that his sister would have to find out on her own!
"Afraid I'm gonna steal him from you, or something?" Wow... now that was mean. Guess that the two girls could bare their teeth when they wanted to.

Despite all the negative interactions poring from Piper, it seemed that Amy could find any silver linings! Namely, that she was an exception to some sort of rule Asher had about touching females. Also, that she had a new best friend in the form of a cat. At the affectionate remarks, Whiskers would begin to purr. Loudly. Hopefully, Amelie had room in her best friend roster for the feline, because it was non-negotiable at this point!
Although, maybe it was a little embarrassing to be purring and pretending to be a pet, when Whiskers was not the 'dumb housecat' that she seemed to be! Ah well. There was nothing wrong with being a peaceful kitty, rather than getting eaten in the Digital World.
Was Piper actually just going to discuss Odyssey references all afternoon, though? The average person might find all of these comparisons a little weird, honestly! "You could aspire to be like Circe, or something. Turn people into pigs. Still fall in love and not murder my brother." Food for thought!
Maybe Amelie wasn't so normal. It was hard to tell if that was a good or a bad thing, considering the topic had been about devouring Piper's only sibling! Though, Penelope wasn't really an interesting character. Pip wasn't really asking someone to sit around for way too many years for her brother's affection. That would be pretty weird too. In a really unsettling sort of way.
At least she had a normal response to the redhead's friend having a crisis. "Yeah, well, I tried telling her that. It's hard to talk sense into someone who says their heart's broken." Pause. "It's also hard for her to hear sense when her face is in a gallon-sized tub of ice cream." Phone calls were particularly difficult under such a visualization. Everything had a strange echo from one girl talking into a plastic bin, and the other couldn't be heard over all the ice cream shoveling. Really, it was more likely that the crushed girl just didn't want to hear sense, but Piper wasn't going to point that out to a stranger. "Going to try to make the best of it, at least."
As far as the next part of the conversation went, it seemed that Amy had more sympathy for the girl's friend, rather than Asher's actual sister! "It would be. Hence my asking," she stated, slowly. It was no surprise where the conversation went from there. Of course she wouldn't tell Piper where her brother ran off to. But, it seemed like she might know, just from that sort of answer.
Granted, suggesting she ask Whiskers of all things was kind of an insult. Maybe the Meicoomon even thought that, as she chirped a, "prrrr-oww?" in Amelie's direction. Sometimes, it was almost like Whiskers could understand people! Chances were, she just recognized when someone said her name, and hoped food was involved.
"Well, it wouldn't surprise me if you tried, if you are a maneater," the redhead girl responded, bluntly. Swinging her feet off the couch, she shifted to prepare to stand up. But, she'd wait until her brother returned before leaving the room. After all, it wasn't really smart to leave a stranger unattended. "But, I'm more concerned you'll try to find something to sue us for." Would Amy take offense? Maybe she should! Or, maybe she'd understand this was just some sort of extreme level of protective sibling-ness! Was it weird that a younger sister was so concerned about such a statement?
The conversation wouldn't have much time to continue as a one-on-one, as Asher soon returned with two glasses of water. After offering one to Amy, he'd use the free hand to pull the coffee table back to where it normally sat, and put the second glass in front of where he'd soon sit. "Sorry-- I had to put a few things in the fridge before coming back," he hummed, taking in the less than enthused expression from Piper, and the ecstatic expression from Whiskers. Wow, those were two opposite ends of the spectrum right there!
"I see you've made a friend," he chuckled, making a gesture at the cat. He wasn't even going to bother commenting on the friendship between his sister and girlfriend, though! It didn't look like a good thing to really bring up. Unless this was some weird way that girls bonded. Honestly, Asher wasn't really a pro at 'girl time', but he couldn't imagine this is what friendship looked like between them! Hopefully, someone could prove him wrong. Somehow!

By this point, Amelie probably cared more about becoming friends with Whiskers rather than Piper. At least the cat had shown good faith since the start, instead of likening her to monsters or witches. As fun as that had been.
What could she say? The redhead was pretty smart, even though the perfect comeback was prepared! "I mean, Circe would be fitting for me... if it wasn't a better match another person I'm thinking about at the moment. Somebody who's treating her guest as if she were a sow. Maybe it'll ring a bell!"
Wonder how Pip would take that one? Considering it was essentially true, Amy wouldn't be surprised if the answer was something along the lines of 'because she deserves it', but that way okay. At least her point had been made.
Regrettably, the teenager didn't have all that much experience in regards to mending broken hearts. Sure, it was sad when things like those happened, but there wasn't a whole lot that could be done about it. "Time's the best medicine for a broken heart. And company that will ensure she'll avoid the usual pitfalls for when shit like that happens. I think it'll be for the best, just that... she hasn't realized it yet."
Who could've thought, Amy felt more sympathy for the broken-hearted stranger rather than the person that had been pretty stubborn at mistreating her. Was that even surprising? Or maybe just a tactic to show her she could actually be nice if the other person was nice to her as well? A weird variation of an eye for an eye, but that's just how things went.
Amelie would try to calm the feline down a bit. Had she gotten nervous? Or was that just an expected reaction from a cat? Considering she had no idea about how cats were supposed to behave, she settled for the later. And just in time for the verbal confrontation to continue. It was somewhat funny, but the brunette's smug expression hadn't receded.
Not one bit. "Don't worry. At most, you'll only have to worry about sharing him. If anything, I think you'll see him around more frequently from now on. Alongside me, of course! We'll have plenty more opportunities to chat in the future, I feel. Ain't that great? We'll become best friends in no time at this rhythm." Or they would end up hating each other's guts. Either or! Sadly, it seemed like their time together was at an end. And if Amy didn't know better, she could almost say that Piper was fed up with her!
She had even gone as far inquire into something that, at least to the brunette, was pretty unrealistic. "Sue you...?" A pensive hum ensued. Could Amy really think about a reason why she would sue them? "I could just present a lawsuit stating that your cat is too cute, and that it should be mine instead because I feel offended at that?" A small shrug accompanied that statement. The truth was that Whiskers was utterly adorable. So adorable it probably was illegal. "But I'm feeling benevolent. As long as I get to pet her every time I come here, you can keep her."
Luckily, the face-off would end as soon as Asher came back. Her request had been fulfilled, and she received the glass of water with her spare hand. "Thank you." First things first. "And don't worry! In your absence, we spent some quality time together. I actually made two friends today; it's just that little Pip hasn't realized it yet. Just give it time."
At least, any leftover traces of smugness weren't present anymore. "Right now, it's a bit of a pity that she has to watch a movie with one of her friends. Otherwise, she would be one of the fortunate few to taste my cooking! It'll have to be the next time."
Was the younger woman in a hurry to abandon the household? Would she bid her time, in hopes of souring the gathering one last time? Or would she seize the moment to take her leave? In any case, once that happened, the only occupants of the house at the moment would be Asher, Whiskers, and Amelie. And that meant that... she could lean in and whisper in the cat's ear. "Hey, Whiskers. You can talk normally now, if you wanna. Thanks for being so friendly with me! I thought Pip was going to shoot me or something at any moment, so that definitely helped."
No more and no less than thankfulness where it was due.

This was probably not how a 'family' meet-and-greet was supposed to go! But, it didn't really seem like Piper was taking any actual offense to the other girl! Even when accused of being unreasonable! Which, despite being accurate, usually would offend a person. "Turning the 'greedy' into pigs? Yeah. Sounds accurate for the situation." Greedy? Was she actually implying that Amy was here for some reason other than liking Asher for himself? There was little to deny.
After giving a shrug to the comment on her friend's broken heart, the redheaded girl uttered an, "eh. She's being irrational. We'll see how it goes." Was that rude to call a friend irrational? Probably, but it was another statement that the girl found to be accurate. After all, love and broken hearts made people act really strangely sometimes!
Would Piper connect the 'eye for an eye'? If she did, she didn't seem to care to acknowledge it. As the conversation continued, it felt like Piper couldn't tell where she sat on her opinion on the new girlfriend. It was needless to say that a large portion of her feelings were from being ridiculously protective, but was she being too harsh? Well, there were surely plenty of saying about perseverance making things worthwhile, right? As far as she was concerned, if the brunette couldn't handle this, she didn't belong in the house anyway. But, none of this seemed to be bothering her!
"Of course you're going to be here more," the younger sibling commented, matter-of-fact. "You're not the first girl he's ever brought home. Once you visit once, you don't just stop there. That would be pointless." Maybe that was meant to be a jab at Amy's importance? But, there was a small pause, as if debating if fully burning this new bridge was a smart choice. "You're the first one since we moved here," she pointed out, slowly but somehow still managing a casual tone, "but I've heard 'we're going to be best friends' plenty of times back in California. And, I've forgotten all of the names of the girls who said it."
Way to try to burst Amy's bubble. Or to avoid becoming too friendly. Hearing the brunette's response about suing over the cat, of all things, Piper had to give a lengthy pause. And, after several moments of a scrunched expression, she leaned forward. "You don't know anything at all about us, do you?" As harsh a question as it was, the tone that it had taken didn't seem to have ill intent. For the first time since they'd begun snarky remarks, Piper sounded... Genuine.
By the time Asher had returned and sat down, Pip had composed herself well enough, and stood from her seat. All expressions had returned neutral, while Amelie talked about her leaving, and their surely budding friendship. "I'm sure there will be next time," the girl stated, dully, before walking around the table. Grabbing a bag near the entrance to the kitchen, she gave an almost unnoticeable eyeroll. "At least this one's literate." The closest to a compliment Amy would probably get today from the girl! Without even saying goodbye, the young girl lifted a hand as a goodbye, before disappearing through the kitchen and out the door.
And, as soon as she had, Whiskers sat upright. Stretching her front paws in the air -- careful not to bump into Amy if she was still leaned in -- the cat finally adopted a more 'Meicoomon' style of sitting. Namely, she wasn't pretending that she was stuck to four paws! "No purroblem! I've never seen Pipurr so irritated befur!" Had Asher warned Amy about the cat puns? Whiskers didn't know. But, either wait, it was probably a unique experience to actually hear!
"Was she actually that bad while I was gone?" It didn't seem like Asher needed much of an answer to that, but it was still necessary to ask! "I really didn't think she was going to act like that." Shifting on the couch alongside Amy, the redhead reached out to lightly play with the tips of the girl's hair. There was a debate on if he should put his arm around her, but considering that the past several moments sounded tense, the young man wasn't entirely sure. But, at least now it was just the two of them, and Whiskers! That had to make any situation a lot less rough!

It seemed like Piper was very comfortable from her position in the trenches. The ball had been returned to Amy's court, just for her to shrug, seemingly in defeat. "I that's your final answer, then there's not a lot I can say about it; doubt anything would change your opinion, anyway."
That was where the line was drawn for the brunette. She could entertain unreasonable notions for a while, but adapting to them was definitely out of question. She could only hope to understand why Piper had turned into a literal bwitch to antagonize her so fiercely from the beginning, yet the true reason ultimately eluded her. That was something that would probably be found out at some point, just... not any time soon.
Similarly, Amelie wasn't going to comment on the friend situation anymore. In a sense, she understood Piper's mindset, given its context; considering how many times she had experienced it herself, she could tell when somebody was being intense for the lack of the better word, even if the redhead's words were pretty much a wildfire in comparison to her own, mostly cold approach.
Both were scary, but Pip's definitely was quite the show to behold. Despite the otherwise calm and subdued tone, her words were cold and sharp, and definitely were being aimed at the correct place. Had Amy not being the owner of an above-average temperance and resolve, she would probably be crying at the moment.
"At least it seems like you understand the game's rules." She commented, mirroring her matter-of-factly tone. "You've played it plenty of times, and you think you know all the rules and tricks there are to it. You've grown cynical to it, mostly because all your 'opponents' have tried variations of the same strategy. But, with me, you'll be up to a surprise." A calm smile graced her face for a brief second. "It's called earnestness. And you'll have to get used to it. Like it or not."
Now, it was the brunette's turn to counterattack! The 'you don't know anything about us' card was something that she didn't expect, but that her brain had processed as a pretty lame argument from the first second. "That's true. I don't know a lot of things about Asher, but can I also say that I'm just his girlfriend, and not his therapist? I'm not gonna practice psychoanalysis on him, nor force him to tell me the history of his life if he doesn't want to share it. If he wants to tell me something about him, he will do when he feels like it. And if not, he won't; easy as that." What else was supposed to do? Break into his mind and just snatch the information? That would definitely be rude. "But I like to think I know one or two things about Asher's life that you don't. And for me, that's already good enough."
The confrontation had been very violent. It was mostly a relief that it had been ended by Asher's timely return. Preferring to not comment about any of Piper's parting words, the brunette just sighed as she collapsed in the couch, her body relaxing from the previous tenseness. "I guess that I passed the literature exam, at least. Good for me?" Sarcasm dripped from her tone, even though that was more or less expected. The previous moments had been harsh, and that was to say the least!
Whiskers' cheerful nature and rather original manner of talking managed to cheer her up some. Talking in puns wasn't something you saw every day, that was for sure! It'd take some turning, but eventually, Amy decided to just attempt to lay face up, using her boyfriend's lap as an impromptu pillow; at least that way, he'd have an easier time at playing with her hair! "Well~." She began, while still caressing the Meicoomon's fur. Where even to start? "To name a few; she admitted that she was treating me like a pig, scoffed at my attempt at friendship, thought I'd try to sue you, and then told me I didn't know anything about your family. Overall, I guess that kinda bad, even if not catastrophic? But it could've been way worse, I think! So I'll consider myself lucky."
Question was. Had she been? Was normal to expect irrational siblings from your boyfriend's family? Amelie wasn't entirely sure, but wasn't going to question her own logic. "Proobably not something I should say, but I think there might be one or two deep-rooted issues there. That it also means she cares a lot about you, I think? Can't say I've gotten a full grasp of her personality, anyway, but I can tell that you two are definitely siblings. That much is very obvious."
She had to admit, her new position was quite comfortable! That's probably how cats felt when sitting on a human's lap, except maybe not quite. Right now, her eyes were focused on Asher's face. "Each family has their issues, and you know I'm above asking about them unless you feel comfortable about sharing them, so... why don't you tell me how the Digital World has been? Is the Knights business going alright? Knowing K, it wouldn't surprise me if she's subjecting you all to some kind of hellish training regime, or already sending you to perform dangerous tasks and that stuff. You are taking care of yourself, right?"

It was fairly easy to tell that the girls were at a stalemate of sorts. Even if Piper would leave this feeling some sort of victory, it wasn't really much of a win. After all, it wasn't like it was getting rid of Amy. And, she knew better than to try too hard on the subject, considering it would only aggravate her brother once it inevitably got back to him!
Was it refreshing, or almost frustrating, that the new girlfriend was so willing to challenge Piper's perspective of the 'game's rules'? Time would surely tell. "Earnest? What's that?" she mumbled, sarcasm clearly shining through. Of course she knew what it meant. But, it didn't mean it was a common trait, or one she anticipated seeing in the near future. Maybe, she'd entertain the argument longer if it wasn't almost time for her to leave. Then again, maybe it was better to abandon the disagreement before it became uncontrollable.
"You don't need to be a therapist to know him," the girl scoffed. "I don't know how long you've been seeing him, but I've always thought relationships were supposed to be pretty deep. Doesn't history count for some of that?" If only Piper knew that their relationship had been made more 'official' only extremely recently! Maybe she'd have cut Amy some slack! Or... not, considering the brunette's defense! Yellow eyes narrowed, while the teen inhaled. "If that's the case?" A small shrug was given, while the 'wildfire' tried to keep itself reigned in, "good for you." It didn't sound like much of a congratulation, really. "Hope you can handle whatever responsibility comes with those secrets." Considering thus far, Piper didn't really have much faith in Amy. And, she was having a hard time believing there were too many things that Asher wouldn't tell her!
Soon enough, Piper was gone, and Asher was left to deal with whatever had occurred while he was away. And, with the first instance being 'admitting to treating Amy like a pig', he had to wonder how something like that could happen. Simultaneously, he realized it shouldn't be surprising. With Amy settled on his lap, the young man stared down at her, trying to think of some way to fix the situation. But, there wasn't really, was there? "I know you don't want me getting in the middle of it, but, I'll talk to her when she's home next." Would Amy be upset about it? Hopefully not. From the sounds of things, it certainly hadn't gone well! And, Asher didn't really want a repeat every time he left the room!
But, there was a half-smile at the comment about being siblings. "I don't know if I should take that as an insult, considering!" Hadn't Amy just been complimenting his ability to keep his words neutral, when it sounded like Piper had essentially done the opposite? Brushing Amy's bangs out of her face with a couple of fingers, the redhead debated if any defense should be made on his siblings behalf. Would it agitate Amy if he did? Would it betray Piper if he didn't? "I've put her through a lot," he hummed, softly, "she has reasons for being like that. Even if I'd rather her not take it out on you." Was that good enough? Asher didn't want to seem like he was trying to take anyone's side, considering the participants!
"If it makes you feel better, I'm sure if Holly and Dad come home early enough, they'll love you." Would it help any, though? Considering Asher couldn't have anticipated Piper's reaction, Amy might have some hesitancy to deal with any more of his family for a good while! And, he couldn't blame her if that's how she'd feel on it! For a moment, the spirit user remained silent. It was appreciated that the brunette wasn't going to pressure him into talking about subjects that were likely on the touchy side. Regardless, he had a question to answer! How was being a knight? "It's been pretty calm so far, actually," he commented, "the team's base only finished construction recently, so there hasn't been too much excitement. I'm supposed to help patrol the Dark Area," and... not much else so far, actually! "Haven't met many people on the team yet. So, it seems like things are still being pieced together."
Was he taking care of himself? Flashing a grin, the redhead leaned down as best he could without interrupting Amy's comfortable position. "What, are you worried about me?" That response surely wasn't a satisfactory answer, but it didn't seem like the redhead was wearing himself out too badly, all things considered! "Are you taking care of yourself? What about your 'Digital adventures'?" Way to spin an unanswered question back onto someone! Rude!
"But," he'd add, after whatever response Amy would give, "considering the way the day's been going. Including my sister being... the way she was," the redhead trailed off. Only to add another 'reason' to where he was going with this, "and since you're my girlfriend." That seemed like a sufficient list of reasons for whatever he was building up to, right? He wasn't even going to detail their earlier double date, at this point, for the 'list'! "I think I'm comfortable with sharing anything you want to know, today." What a generous and... probably boring offer, to be honest! "Whether that's asking about 'family issues', wanting to know my middle name, or if I think we should have popcorn in the very-near future," he smirked at the last suggestion, knowing very well that it was simultaneously the most and least important question on the list, "you're free to ask."
Would she want to take up that offer? Or was it almost vain to even suggest that? Relationships were kind of tricky in that aspect. Where was the line between caring and ego? Either way, Amelie seemed fond of gossip and knowing people, so maybe she'd take some entertainment out of it. Or, at least, inquire about popcorn or ice cream. Even if, in their current state, he might have to ask Whiskers to go get it for them!

Of course Piper wasn't buying any of Amelie's words. Had that been the case, there wouldn't have been a dispute in the first place. Was that bad, though? Not at all; the brunette's eyes were already burning with a flame that could only be described as 'eagerness to prove somebody wrong'. Whether the redhead ended up liking her or not, she didn't care anymore; she just wanted to prove that she would be a good girlfriend, which meant that any further fights would have to be built on rational reasons, instead of just deeming her as 'another golddiger'.
Just then, the confrontation would be justified! That sarcastic remark was taken in stride, Amy just humming, seemingly deep in thought at it. "How to teach earnestness..." Her voice trailed off, at least until her face seemed to light up with an idea! "Should be easy; just try saying what's on your mind! For example, I could say that I'm front of a girl that seems to be pretty smart and cares a lot for her brother, yet for some reason or another, is being a bitch to his girlfriend. Sounds pretty earnest, don't you think?"
Abandoning the disagreement before it became uncontrollable wasn't a phrase that was in the brunette's vocabulary. Nevermind the fact that what she had said was essentially true, this relationship had definitely begun with the wrong foot. But! Amy wasn't a wallflower, and wasn't going to let a girl that was probably four or five years younger than her to trample over her ego just because she felt overprotective today.
By now, it wasn't an understatement to say that this was a war of sorts and that despite how popular culture portrayed them, just because she was French didn't mean she was going to give up easily! "See, that's fine and everything." She conceded, even though it was obvious that was a mere opening statement. "But, in truth, that kind of things take time. You aren't supposed to be sharing intimate secrets with somebody you've kissed for the first time ever a month ago or so, don't you think? But I'm probably talking to the air at this point. It's painfully obvious you've never been on a serious relationship. Why would I expect somebody like you to understand? Wouldn't be surprised if all the knowledge about relationships you have is just from reading or watching fiction."
Amelie just nodded with a quota of pride at the half-baked not-quite compliment thrown her way. It wasn't like she didn't know what to do with a secret. Maybe the secret regarding the Digital World would be disclosed to her someday, but until then... it was probably for the best if she didn't know. Considering how frustrated Ooi could become in regards to her lack of partners or spirits; that situation repeating wouldn't do anyone any good.
Luckily, Piper eventually left the room, and left the happy couple and the cat together. Were they really a happy couple, considering that Asher already wanted to 'fix' something? It was hard to tell. "I don't really mind you two talking about me, at least as long as I'm not in the room. If you want to do it, go ahead, even though... I truly think that actions speak way louder than words for her. She probably believes that I've brainwashed your or something, and that I want to turn you against her and that stuff."
Repeating this scenario wouldn't be something that Amy would be a fan of, but she knew more than well that was going to happen again, one way or another. The only way for that to happen was for Pip to discover that she was a nice girl, or something unrealistic to that extent. Pretty much impossible, right?
"No, no. It's not an insult. I can see how the two of you really care about your loved ones, even if you express it a bit differently." She smirked a bit at the realization. "In a sense, Pip is a bit like me as well. Except that she has some pretty obvious anger issues. She should learn to chill, even if a little bit!"
That last comment had been meant as a joke, mostly. "I'm sure you didn't mean to put her through anything. Sometimes, life just decides it wants to be harsh, despite us giving our best. I can tell that she really loves you; that's heartwarming." The only thing missing was for her to abandon those plans about murdering the brunette in her sleep! That'd be lovely.
A tired smile resulted from the next comment. Truth to be told, the recent exchange had left her a bit on the exhausting side. Was she ready to do even more socializing? That was a good question. "I really hope so. I guess I can take solace on the fact I'm already friends with the most important family member." As she said that, she proceeded to softly rub whiskers behind her ears. "I can deal with a little more rejection, I think."
Knight life seemed like it was surprisingly easy, though! Would it pick up the pace eventually? That was a good question; for now, she was happy about everything being more or less calm. "The Dark Area, huh? Well, I guess I'll make sure to not cause that many problems there, then! I don't know what I'd do if you knocked my door to arrest me or something like that. It'd be pretty strange!"
The brunette didn't really mind the question being turned to her, even though she found it a little weird. "I'm not buying that you just realized I worry about you. You know that more than well." Yet, after a pause, she added. "I think I'm taking care of myself. If everything goes well, the city should be up and running by the end of this Digital World year. It's probably going to take a bit more, considering the nature of the project, but things are better than ever, I feel. The fact that my spirits are finally starting to behave is also something I can appreciate. Especially considering how annoying they've been in the past."
Well, that offer was definitely not something she had expected. She was free to ask anything to him? Even from her otherwise relaxed position, Amy's eyes widened like saucers. "You... you sure you want to do this? If I begin asking questions, chances are that I won't hold back." Considering a genuine enough reply, she would add. "Okay, but. For each question I ask, you have to ask one question back at the very least. Otherwise, this might just end up being a second rendition of the beach. As soon as you run out of questions, I'll stop."
If they had a deal, then she would begin. "So, what's your full name? And... why is Piper so overprotective of you?"
