Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time [Bero]

Without any trains present, the station leading back to the real world had reached a lull in activity. Most of the creatures hanging around seemed like they were headed for the big city nearby. In a space off to the side, a small blue portal opened up. A tall blonde woman pulled her smaller friend through the opening, apparently mid-conversation.
“—have to panic, we’ll be fine, see?”
Naomi gestured in a random direction to show her partner that all of her limbs were still intact. The purple-haired girl had this adorable tendency to worry about everything, but right now that was getting in the way of fun. To be fair, they did just arrive to a world full of talking robot monsters, but it sounded like lots of kids were doing it. If a ten year old could handle this, then it couldn’t be that deadly.
“Welcome to Computer Land or whatever. Looks like you’re stuck going on an adventure ‘cause, uh, portal thingy’s gotta charge up.”
That seemed to snap the kid out of their awestruck expression, and brought their attention back to solid ground. “Hold on then, you knew we’d be trapped in here? ”
“Just wait a while. I mean—” Naomi couldn’t even finish her point without laughing at some of the stupid-looking monsters nearby. She pointed at a particularly bad piece of garbage for emphasis. “Look at that thing! Do you really think a walking trashcan is gonna hurt anything, let alone us? Come on, we’ll beat up some assholes, rescue a princess or two—hero stuff. “
Whoever made this place probably coded in some safety to make sure the robots didn’t kill actual humans. If people were getting murdered all the time, no one would want to visit. Naomi figured that pointing this out would start a whole debate about ‘how do you know that’, and ‘what if the world isn’t manmade’. Boring stuff. Talking could happen after she got to slay a dragon because hey, dragons exist now. How cool is that?
She’d figure out how to fight on the way to the dragon’s hideout maybe there’s a tutorial. Naomi hurried off to exit the station, not bothering to check if her partner decided to follow along. The kid would follow along eventually, if only to make sure their quickest ride out of here didn’t get lost or something.

Any day in terminus city was pretty much a fine day. This was practically guaranteed due to the city’s bustling nature and seedy underbelly which could be used to fight in. Naturally, with fine day, i meant to say that it was a fine day for Bero, who would gladly stay in terminus city for the combat, although short leaves did give him useful experiences. The unfriendly, looming aura of the city hardly affected him. The towering buildings blocking out the sky and various beautiful weather phenomena which only occured within the digital world was nothing that bothered Bero.
Bero had not done much yet in the way of combat, at least, today. He was coming off of the fights of yesterday, although those hadn’t caused any consequential damage. Today was a new day for fights and experience. He felt it would not take long. Then again, he always felt like that, because it was usually true. The healthier he was, the more agitating he tended to be for others. Today would be no exception to the rule. His eyes were out on someone who looked gullible. Could nary fight in the open after all, needed to lure them somewhere more suitable.
Today’s fool had yet to turn up. It seems stronger digimon were out today as well, meant Bero had to keep a low profile. Not something he wasn’t used to doing though. The black digimon looked as normal as any, besides maybe a sour scowl from other rookies in the close environment. Bero was making a name for himself, for the worse. Not that he cared.
It wouldn’t be too long before he encountered something that caused his own expression to sour horribly. Not that him giving a sour look was a rare event. Infact, if anything, it was status quo. Today’s recipients of the unfriendly, outright hostile stare were two humans that had come to terminus city together, and seemed all too comfortable here for Bero’s liking. He had yet to engage on them or taunt them, but that would surely come soon...

From Naomi’s brief look around, this place didn’t seem very different from the real world. A fantasy computer land ought to be all complicated and mind-bending and stuff. Not like they any reason to stick to regular physics out here, but hey, maybe all that stuff’s hidden away somewhere. She could complain later if there weren’t any easter eggs. The hunt hadn’t even begun yet.
By now, Naomi slowed down long enough for her cute partner to catch up. “Ah, Rio. I’m thinking we gotta talk to one of these NPC looking dudes to get started. That’s how these video games work, yeah?”
“I mean, maybe. Not like I’ve done this either.” ‘Rio’ seemed to consider the idea for a bit longer, before motioning Naomi to move in closer. “Look, how ‘bout we talk it easy and NOT call everyone a generic piece of code on the first day.”
“…But they are, though.”
“Just, like, wait a week or something.”
“Fine.” Naomi pouted and turned away. The two of them were getting distracted from the mission anyway. Whatever quest giver wouldn’t randomly approach them, they’d have to start things off. Now. No debating where to begin ‘cause that’ll take forever. She’d just ask the first creature that came by and just work from there.
…Okay, maybe not that guy he kinda looked evil.
She would have moved on to someone but, well, Naomi got stuck thinking about the reasons for ignoring the weird unicorn dog thing…and didn’t like the implications. What happened to all that confidence from earlier? Even if the thing was a jerk, not like it could beat up two Magical Girls and get away with it.
So she walked over to Mr. Dark and Flaming, if only to prove her assumptions were wrong. When she got closer to the dude, Naomi waited with a hand on her hip and nodded in his general direction. “Hey, shorty, know any place we could have some fun ‘round here?”

All too comfortable indeed, but all too comfortable extended to the next level when one of the two humans approached him and called him shorty. Fury was the slightest of Bero’s concerns, but it had just gotten quite high up on the list. First things first, setting the stage. Bero spoke, his voice aggressive and slightly deeper than one would expect for his size. “Fun?”
Bero was various degrees of insulted. Did they consider invading upon a place where they shouldn’t be, where they didn’t fit in and didn’t follow the rules, did they consider that ‘fun’? Well, this is why Bero hated humans! They made no sense at all, and they intruded upon other’s terrain with their unfitting morals, expecting to change the world around them!
“Well… i might know somewhere.” Bypassing how insulted he felt wasn’t easy, but getting them to somewhere where he didn’t have to be afraid of being punished for attacking them was the way he’d make sure he wouldn’t feel insulted for too long. He wanted to see what kind of fight they could offer, Adult humans could apparently compare to a rookie in combat scale, according to some sources. He wanted to see the truth to it… and send the humans back to where they belong when he proved it’s ludicrous falseness. “You gotta follow me though… and not a word about it, eh? Have to keep the fun places a secret…”
He took on a persona of sorts. He wasn’t the most capable liar ever, but he had practised now and then, and did his best to seem like someone who had something genuinely fun to do. He started moving to a nearby alleyway in Terminus City...

See, this is why that saying about books and covers is legit. Unicorn-dog Man ended up being useful after all. Granted, Naomi hadn’t actually seen this secret clubhouse or whatever, so the place could still suck. It did get a bonus for being part of Cybertopia instead of the real world. That ought to be enough to save even the lamest of joints in this area.
Naomi couldn’t hold back her excitement and started grinning. “Hey, hey, you ain’t got nothing to worry about. Let’s roll.”
When he started to leave, the two girls followed along as instructed. Wherever they were headed must not be too far if they’re walking the whole way. Shouldn’t be too hard to work their way back to the station afterward, which seemed perfect for a first time adventure.
The usual concern about following some stranger through a dark alley never really set in. Maybe if the dude had been bigger than her, instead of some crotch-high little puppy, there’d be a reason to feel nervous. But this guy? If he tried anything weird she’d just punt him and bounce.
For now, Naomi was content with wandering around (at least another minute or so) before saying something, but her partner had other plans. “I’m guessing my friend here skipped over this, but my name’s Viola. Thanks for going out of your way to help out, sir.”
Naomi started rubbing the back of her neck, trying to appear as casual as she could—behaving as if Rio- Viola suddenly throwing around made up names was a regular thing. ”Sorry, my bad, shorty.”
It was too early to quit and go home, but if the kid really didn’t like this monster, the pair of them could find another one. Not like this one was anything special.

Called Sir and shorty. He was pissed off, but he was leading them, so it was easy to hide that anger. They’d roll, alright. Roll right into Bero’s little trap and see how ‘fun’ combat really is.
The two were easy to distract and lead into the alleyways. There were some twisting paths and alleyway like places to go past, and eventually, they were led towards a spot between some taller buildings, a little abandoned courtyard which wasn’t connected to any streets. There were some other digimon, but half of them scurried away at the sight of Bero. most of them were small. “Heh, just some small fry who know when the real guys come to party…”
In the courtyard, there was a ditch in the ground, about the size of a swimming pool. It was completely dry, but there were some connections which undoubtedly led to the sewers. The Gabumon jumped into it, sliding on the steeply slanted walls to the bottom of the ditch and walking towards the middle, looking at the two expectedly. This was likely getting more suspicious by the moment. Hopefully, the illusion of going to a party lasted just a little longer. He wanted to fight them in this ditch, it was a spot where escape wouldn’t come easily for the average rookie.
Luckily, he wasn’t the average rookie in the slightest.
