Commander Hashimoto merely nodded in acknowledgement as Layla made her point. There would only be seven, and would always be seven. That last point made it even more important to him that somehow the intertwining of events between Earth and the Digital World should be stopped. He thought of all the innocent citizens of Japan and indeed the rest of the world, simply going about their lives without any knowledge of the other world.
He would neither confirm nor deny the full extent of the defensive system put in place around Tokyo to prevent digimon above Ultimate from existing in their current forms. While he was curious as to how Layla was able to hold hers, he wasn't willing to bring it to conversation in case it would mean it could be compromised.
The DATS Commander was slightly surprised when Layla quickly transformed her clothing into a uniform very accurate to that of DATS. It was a little disturbing at first, considering all the risks involved. Why, she could cause untold chaos in this disguise, and blame would fall upon him. But... he just found that deep down, he wanted to trust her. Deep down, he knew the ultimate goal of DATS was unobtainable without grievous atrocities dealt to sentient beings.
Still though, they were here, talking. Peacefully. While Hashimoto was the Commander for now, if he failed, a far more ruthless person would take his place, and all sorts of horrible things would happen in response.
Layla asked if that was all. Hashimoto considered. While he would prefer something be signed, he didn't want any written record of this conversation taking place. Yet... how could he enforce it if Layla reneged? He had little reason to trust her, overall.
Yet, his thoughts returned to Director Suzuki once more. If DATS failed, it would be on his head. And, frankly, he would be fine with that.
"No written record will be necessary." Hashimoto replied, standing to his feet. "A handshake will do. Go about your business in Tokyo, keep the digimon that follow you in line, clean up after whatever mess you intend to make and harm no innocents. That is what I agree to."
Hashimoto looked at the three agents that had accompanied him - Maria, Tiger and Machine, and gauged their reactions. To his relief, all three of them nodded. He was a little surprised that Maria did, considering what he knew of her, but, chose that to be a question for later.
