Well... suppose it all would come full circle one day wouldn't it?
As Skye the DeathAngewomon finally landed on solid ground following her long, difficult, high flight, there was a feeling of warm familiarity that spread through her as she saw, heard and felt the familiarity of this place. Luminas, the city of her birth.
At once, she let down her two companions, Hickory the Chuumon and Jorge the Shoutmon, who had been riding her in their flight here. They were nowhere near as exhausted as she was, thus Jorge did his best to keep her steady.
"No good, Jorge, I'll have to dedigivolve" Skye told her companion, and he stood back as she shrunk down back into her Gatomon form. Her wings faded, her worn clothes of war vanished, and in her place was a small white cat digimon, dressed in nothing but the holy ring on her tail, green claw-gloves on her paws, and a black armband around her right arm, showing the insignia of the 7/71st. She hoped that would not be a problem.
When she caught her breath, Skye would make her way toward one of the gates of the main city, of course attended by members of the Luminas City Guard.
"Good morning." a digimon spoke as she approached. Skye looked up, seeing a Lobomon ready with a clipboard and pen. "Welcome to Luminas. Please tell me your names and purpose here."
"Our names are Skye, Hickory and Jorge. Our purpose here is... visiting, after a long time" the Gatomon answered. To her surprise this made the Lobomon stare at her.
"...Skye?" he repeated. "That's really you...? You remember me, right?"
Skye stared at him for a moment before she eventually recognized familiar things. Those eyes, that voice, could it be? "Nate? Is that you?!" Skye asked, remembering the Strabimon friend of her childhood.
"Yeah! That's me!" Nate exclaimed with delight. For a few seconds, he dropped his duties to kneel down and give her a hug. Skye gladly returned it. Nate was one of the few friends she remembered from here. But only a few seconds they had. "Damn you showing up at the start of my shift, Skye, I'd love to show you around the place and show you what's changed, but, I gotta keep guard here for another 6 hours. Hey. If you're still in town, let's meet up at the Pixiemon's Trident, I can fill you up on everything that's happened then, okay?"
"Sounds great, Nate! And if the rumours are true and Luminas has truly reformed, I'll see you then... but if it hasn't, well, I'll make sure to leave through this gate and let you know." the Gatomon replied. Following that, the trio entered the city.
"...What was that about?" Jorge asked Skye curiously.
"He's a childhood friend. And, frankly, not someone that'd be accepted as a city guard under the old regime." she replied, already in high spirits. "You know, guys, I have a good feeling about this place now. Nobody even blinked at you, Hickory. Normally they'd put virus attributes on a leash or something."
"Whew, glad they didn't..." Hickory began, then shot a horrified look up at her. "Wait, you didn't tell me that!"
"Easy now, if they did, I would've left then and there" Skye reassured him. Still though, it was funny to be home after all this time, walking along the same lofty streets she had walked in her youth. Skye was interested to find out what happened here.

"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!" Adrian screamed as he rode on OmniShoutmon's shoulder as the Ultimate Digimon flew high up into the air. Very fast. "SHOUTMON, SLOW DOWWWWN! I CAN BARELY HANG OOOOONNNN!"
"Whoops! Sorry, Adri," OmniShoutmon apologizes, still going upward but slowing down considerably. "I'm just excited, is all! Skye's a really cool Digimon, you're gonna like her, I guarantee! She's a member of the 7/71st like Owen, you know."
"Skye's that Digimon you went on that date with, right?" Adrian asked. He couldn't see it, but OmniShoutmon gained a very visible tint of red in his cheeks. "Well?"
"Well... erm... yeah, heh, I guess you could say that." Just then OmniShoutmon could see a visible object up higher in the sky. "Alright Adrian, we're here! Luminas City!"
"It really is up high in the clouds," Adrian gasped as they arrived towards the gates of the main city. The entire city had a very heaven-like feel to it. If Adrian believed in heaven, Luminas would be exactly how Adrian would envision it to look like. OmniShoutmon landed in front of the gates, holding a hand out for Adrian to hop off before he devolved back to his normal form, Shoutmon.
In front of the gate was what seemed to be a city guard, a Lobomon it seemed to the two of them. The duo walked up and the guard welcomed them to Luminas, asking for their names and their reason for entering the city.
"My name's Shoutmon and this is my partner Adrian," Shoutmon explained. "We're here to visit some friends. They said that they were going to be in Luminas today, so I thought we'd drop in and say hi! Did you see them arrive, by any chance? She was a Gatomon, if that helps."

Not long after he had let Skye and her friends in, Nate the Lobomon was soon approached by another duo. One was another Shoutmon, and the other was a human named Adrian. They said their purpose here was to visit some friends. Namely a Gatomon.
"Ah, loads of Gatomon up here, but, given you arrived 2 minutes after she did, I assume you mean Skye?" he asked. "Yeah, I know her. If you're friends with her, I see no reason to deny you entry. By all means, welcome to Luminas."
That was all he had to say to them. If they entered, they would behold the grand architecture of the floating city. Stone buildings with their ceilings painted with gold plate. Grand buildings lined the streets, their windows made of stained glass. It was a truly heavenly landscape, and, above all, rather... subdued. Not so that the atmosphere was hostile, but, there was a general feeling that something drastic had happened here recently, and that everyone seemed to want to move on in their lives about it.
If Adrian and Shoutmon continued into the city, it wouldn't be long until they caught up with Skye and her friends. They found a bulletin board by one of the main intersections, and were reading the information upon it, trying to discern what the official situation in the Empyrian Skies was, without having to ask anyone, hopefully.
Unfortunately, Skye was only able to pick up a few small events of note. But there she, Jorge and Hickory stood for the moment.

The Lobomon guard actually seemed fairly nice, which was a far cry from what Adrian was expecting of the place. Shoutmon was surprised too, even though he had never really been to Luminas. Back when he was Omni, he would've been kicked out of the place immediately, so it was nice to see a friendly guard that wasn't overly strict.
"Yeah, we do mean Skye!" Shoutmon said with joy. The Lobomon had then let them enter Luminas freely, and the Tamer and Digimon pair walked right in, thanking the Lobomon as they passed the gates. "See you later!"
When they entered, Adrian and Shoutmon were met with the sight of a heavenly looking city, grand buildings made of stone with gold plated roofs, stained glass windows... it was definitely what Adrian would think of when thinking of the concept of heaven. He noticed that the citizens of this city seemed a bit... miffed about something. I better not ask about it... don't want to ignite any flames and get us kicked out of the city.
Why are all these Digimon so... Shoutmon thought to himself, ...well I can't even describe it. I guess everything's fine for now, but I dunno...
As the two walked Shoutmon eventually spotted a familiar looking figure. It was definitely Skye all right, since it was a Gatomon with a visible black armband around her arm. On either side of her was another Shoutmon, which looked similar to his Champion form, and a Digimon that they had never seen before.
"Heya Skye!" Shoutmon called out as he waved to her. "Great to see ya!"

Skye blinked as she heard a voice call out her name. She turned and gave a smile as she realized who it was. "Ah, it's Shoutmon" she said to alert her companions.
"Huh?" Jorge asked, immediately confused. "Yeah, I'm a Shoutmon, what do you-?" he looked in the direction that Skye was looking and then realized what the situation was. "Ah, friend of yours?"
"Yeah, pretty much" Skye answered. She waved at the digimon she had met in Terminus city. Her companions supposed they could take it easy around one of Skye's other friends after all. Hickory nervously adjusted his hat though, the Chuumon hoping he looked dashing enough... even though the small digimon was sitting on Skye's shoulder.
"Hi, Shoutmon" Skye said to the red reptile digimon as he approached. "Good to see you here. Ah, these are my friends, Jorge and Hickory" she introduced them, and they gave a little wave.
Skye would then notice the tall human that was walking near Shoutmon. She realized with a start that this was one of the first humans she had ever met in person. Well, she had brief encounters with a few others, but never really up close like this.
"I take it you're Adrian?" Skye asked, remembering the name of Shoutmon's tamer.

"It's great to see you too, Skye," Shoutmon said as he an Adrian approached her and her friends. He looked over to the other Digimon, the Shoutmon and Chuumon, and introduced himself to them. "And you must be Skye's friends, right? Jorge and Hickory? You can just call me Shoutmon. It's great to finally meet you."
Skye acknowledged Adrian's presence, asking him if he was who he thought she was. "Oh, yeah. My name's Adrian Boriker, and I am Shoutmon's partner. You should've seen the way he acted after he came home from your da-"
"And that is enough from Adrian, thanks for having us," Shoutmon interrupted, a very visible blush on his face. Sure, he did have a thing for Skye but he would rather let her know himself than have someone else do it for him. Adrian took the hint and promptly shut his mouth.
Adrian could not get over how much Jorge looked like SuperShoutmon. The resemblance was picture perfect. They were easy to tell apart now, but what if Shoutmon ended up digivolving...?
After introductions were made, Shoutmon faced Skye again. "So things don't seem as bad here as you made this place out to be. In fact, it's pretty nice here I gotta say. Doing anything special in Luminas?"

Skye noted Shoutmon's expression when he spoke to her. It seemed that their... 'date' had been something of a success. She noted that he seemed genuinely happy to see her again, and, this little thing made her happy too.
"Alright, guess we will then" Jorge answered Shoutmon. He had heard of their date too and was fine with it. He thought of Skye more as a traveling companion than anything more. Hickory felt the same. Professionally, they were a team, but, it wasn't their business what happened outside of that.
Skye blushed a little herself when Adrian spilled the goods on how Shoutmon felt after their meal together. She hadn't made anyone that happy before, as far as she could remember, so, this information was a little surprising. But, she smiled. Something deep inside her felt glad to hear it.
Still, best keep things dignified at this stage. Shoutmon then asked what the deal was with Luminas as it was. Skye turned to answer him. "Well, as far as I know, something significant has changed here since I was last here." she answered, pacing a little as she looked around the city. "Like, the city leadership has changed? Or something happened that caused the state of oppression to lift? Anyway, I'm curious to learn more about it. Say, do you guys wanna come with us and check out the place I grew up? I'm hoping I might learn more from others that I grew up with, if they're still there that is."
If so, Skye would lead them through the streets of Luminas, toward the more shabby side of town where she grew up in.

Skye responded to Shoutmon's statement about Luminas, explaining how the city had significantly changed. She didn't know why or how, though. A few theories she brought up were some new form of leadership or something to lift the oppression. She said that she was curious to learn more. "Yeah, I'd like to know what made this place go from heaven-disguised hell do essentially heaven."
"For an entire city to change?" Adrian asked. "It had to have been something big. Although I did notice that some Digimon were still giving me weird looks, though. Is it just because I'm human?"
"So what if you're human? You should be welcomed in this place," Shoutmon responded. Skye then asked if the two of them wanted to join her in visiting where she grew up. "Yeah, I'd like to see where you spent your early years!"
"Wait, I thought young Digimon grew up in the Village of Beginnings...?" Adrian asked, confused as he and Shoutmon followed Skye's gang to her old neighborhood. The area was definitely more shabby than the other parts of the city, and that wasn't lost on either the human nor Digimon.
"Yeesh... This place still looks nice, Skye, but compared to the rest of the city... Yikes."
"I don't think it's bad at all, Shout. Has charm to it, kinda like some areas of Shibuya."
"Yeah, I guess so. Just kind of a shock after seeing the other parts of this city... no offense, Skye. So which place is yours?"

Skye shared that sentiment. "Yeah, I know, right? When I was last here it was extremely anti-human and anti-virus, but now... just seems no worse than Terminus."
Of course, some lingering looks remained. Hopefully it would not amount to anything worse though. Adrian seemed a little indignant about that. Thankfully they weren't greeted by anything worse than the occasional glare.
Skye gave a wry smile when Shoutmon said he'd like to see where she grew up. "Well, doubt you'd be impressed, seeing as I grew up on the streets." she replied, putting her paws behind her head, scowling as she recanted the reasons why. Adrian caught on that she wasn't raised in the village of beginnings, so Skye would enlighten him to the facts.
"Here in the Empyrean Skies, digimon are born nearby on a floating island bearing the Fields of Avalon." she explained. "That's the place where a lot of holy attribute digimon are born. We get raised with as much care as those in the Village of Beginnings of course, but, following that, we had to either wait for a sponsor from Luminas to take us into their family, or wait until we evolved to Rookie. I never got a sponsor, so when I evolved from Nyaromon to Gatomon, out of the Fields and into the City I went. I didn't exactly play nice when I was on the streets, so, I was pretty quickly shunned, seeing that I didn't have the correct skills or graces to fit in with the society at the time."
Skye's face grew increasingly angry as she told this story, but she brought herself back enough to continue it with clarity.
"It all wasn't too hard on me and my acquaintances though, we found a way to band together..." she continued. "I managed to partner up with a Strabimon called Nate, we looked after each other at the time. Eventually, it got to the point where I couldn't stand to be in this place anymore, so I decided to leave. I wished he could follow me, but he couldn't. So I left, and this is my first time returning, and... I just can't believe how more accommodating this place is now."
Shoutmon then asked which place was hers. Skye smirked. "I don't have a place of my own, Shoutmon. When I left, I discarded everything I had. So... I'm about as much of a resident here as you are, but... with the way things are now, I wouldn't mind figuring out if I have enough street credit here for a place now that I've returned..." with that, she looked above at the signs above the street, hoping to look for a hall of some kind. Eventually, she saw the sign of a tavern, thinking that was a good place to be at for now.
"How about we have another drink together, Shoutmon?" Skye asked, thinking that would be a nice way for them to reunite in a friendly situation. It didn't have to be alcoholic, they could just share refreshments and go over the reasons why they seemed to like each other at this time.
Hickory and Jorge remained silent for the moment, neither of them had been here, so they were relying on Skye for guidance.

"No matter how it happened, I'm glad that Luminas warmed up to all types of Digimon and humans," Shoutmon said. "I mean, I know humans look weird and all but they're sentient beings just like us, right?"
"You're calling US weird?" Adrian laughed, "There is a Digimon that is just a giant slug that throws nasty stuff at things and a Digimon that looks like its made out of nothing but guns. I like to think we're pretty tame compared to the likes of that."
Shoutmon was surprised to hear from Skye that she grew up on the streets. He initially thought that every Digimon in Luminas would've had at least some place to live. Hell, back in his old village he had a small house that he could call his own. "Oh, I... I didn't know that, Skye. Sorry..." Shoutmon apologized, a bead of sweat dropping from his head.
Skye explained to Adrian that Digimon born in the Empyrean Skies are born on a tiny island that is similar to the Village of Beginnings. It made sense, seeing as Digimon from that village couldn't exactly fly up to Luminas. From there, young Digimon would either get a sponsor to live with them or have to wait until they evolved to Rookie to leave into the city. "So, it's like adopting a child? The sponsors becoming guardians?"
"Sounds more like adopting a pet to me," Shoutmon said as he scowled, "leaving the rest to fend for themselves."
Skye continued to explain that she didn't necessarily have the grace or skills to fit in with those from the old Luminas City. Adrian imagined Digimon from that time to have acted like spoiled rich people, looking down on those that they felt were inferior to them. It made him... pretty pissed off. He could tell by Skye's face that she was getting angry just by telling her story as well. "I think I can understand your anger, Skye. I don't like people who act like they're superior to everyone else, either. It's a good thing you left when you did."
As the group walked they came across a tavern. Skye asked if Shoutmon wanted to have another drink with her. "Sure, why the heck not?"
Meanwhile Adrian looked over at Jorge and Hickory, since he wasn't too sure if the two of them wanted to be alone or if they should join them. If they wanted to be alone, Adrian would simply hang out with Skye's friends for a bit.

Skye, Hickory and Jorge listened to Adrian and Shoutmon's discussion, learning a little more about humans all the while. After all, this was really one of their first proper interactions with humans, and all of them were eager to learn all they could about these interesting people.
"That's something I've been curious about myself." Skye remarked. "Pardon me if I'm being a bit too generalizing, but, I've seen many of you humans around the digital world, and you don't have nearly as much variation as we digimon do. So far that I've seen, you're mostly the same height, with males being usually bigger than females... you always wear clothes, but with lots of variations in colours and styles, and all of you lack fur except on the top of your head, or sometimes on the face with males. That's how humans naturally are, right?"
Skye was a little worried she was sounding strange about this, but, she hoped that her observations about humans was accurate so far, and if they weren't, she hoped to learn more about them.
Shoutmon seemed sympathetic at the fact that Skye had grown up on the streets here. The Gatomon smiled in response, giving a shrug. "I like to think it made me stronger, so no need for that." she said, smiling.
They had the correct understanding of how it was like in the Avalon Fields. And Adrian's opinion on the matter made Skye decide that she was okay with this human. "Glad you think so." she replied.
All of this was education to Jorge and Hickory too. Neither of them knew this much about Skye and her upbringing. Hickory had been a weak wayward digimon from Fragment Village in the Dark Area, while Jorge was the weakened reconfigured form of a former king who had lost his kingdom. Compared to their pasts, Skye's disadvantage was just as startling.
Thankfully, they could soon discard these feelings in the tavern ahead. Skye realized in her haste to ask this question she hadn't considered where Adrian would be in all this. For the moment, she decided she'd like for him to hang around a bit more, just to get to know him. Skye knew little about humans, and since Shoutmon was a partner digimon, she thought it would be best to get to know his partner if they wanted to get to know each other more.
While Skye had settled on the fact that yes, she did rather like Shoutmon, she wanted to establish how she and her companions would fit in to their lives if they were going to move forward.
Soon after, they entered the tavern, and were greeted by a Flamon. He was unfamiliar, but seemed polite enough, and he asked what they would like.
"Just a latte for me thanks." Skye said. Jorge asked for a light beer, while Hickory asked for a soda.

Adrian looked over at Skye when she mentioned having something that she was curious about. He listened intently to her question and asking for conformation on it. She said she thinks all humans are the same height, males usually being bigger than females, always wear clothes, and lack "fur" except on the head or sometimes the face. Adrian laughed a bit and gave Skye a decent explanation.
"You got it somewhat right, with variations here and there. Not all humans are the same height. Some are very short, while others like me are pretty tall. Males being bigger than females is the general stereotype, but it's not always the case in our world. It's a required law in our world that we all wear clothes since no one really cares to see what's under them all the time, although some people do decide to not follow that rule. Spot on about the fur though, although we call it hair."
"But yeah, you got most of it right. We're very different compared to Digimon, who can come in all kinds of forms."
Shoutmon felt bad that Skye had to live on the streets most of her life. She tried to make him feel better by saying it made her stronger, but it didn't work. "I dunno... as soon as I reached Rookie I was told that I was a partnered Digimon, so I spent the last year with Adrian. I got off lucky, and it sucks that you were practically homeless."
When they arrived at the tavern Adrian was unsure whether or not Skye just wanted to be with Shoutmon or if he wanted the others to join. He saw Jorge and Hickory follow the "love-mon's" into the tavern so Adrian shrugged and joined alongside them. The group entered and sat down, with Skye ordering a latte, Jorge a light beer, and Hickory a soda. The Flamon looked at them asking for their drink orders as well.
"I'll take a beer, doesn't matter what kind," Shoutmon simply said.
"Hm... I'll take a light beer mixed in with a bit of soda, if that's possible," Adrian said. When the Flamon walked off, he looked towards Jorge and Hickory. "Well we know Skye's story now, but how about you two? What're your pasts like?"

Skye gave a smile when Adrian mostly confirmed her observations. Although she was a little surprised about the law of clothes, but, supposed she didn't have reason to question that for the moment.
"Ah, alright, I'll call it 'hair' from now on then." Skye replied.
Shoutmon still thought Skye's situation was unfortunate, and for that, she appreciated his sympathy. Yeah, she was raised to be a tough kitty, but, having nice things said, like that it was terrible she had to live with such difficulties. It was a new feeling, and one she liked.
"If it helps, I still have the memory of being in a way worse situation... back when I was a soldier in the old world." Skye would say, trying to maintain her stoic persona.
As their drinks were being prepared, Adrian asked Jorge and Hickory about their stories. Hickory jumped at being addressed, but replied all the same.
"Well... my story is that I was born in the dark area, then I met Skye and we managed to get out of there." the Chuumon stated. "I don't have much happy memories from that time, I'm just glad I'm still alive to be honest..."
Jorge meanwhile needed to drink his glass whole before he could bring himself to answer. "In my previous life, I was king of an island, over West in what you guys would know as the Spears of Megiddo. We got tangled up with bad digimon from another island, but held them off as long as we could. But in the end they got us, they did something that made it sink into the sea. Most of my kingdom died, but, as digimon do, we came back in the Village of Beginnings. So, here I am, ex-king, learning my lessons, following a better leader."
Skye was somewhat flattered by this and didn't know what to say. Instead, she awaited Adrian and Shoutmon's opinions on that.

"Yeah, humans can also have hair in places other than their head, but that kind of thing is usually reserved for males. It can grow on their face, which we call either a mustache or beard depending on if it's kept above the lip or not. It's so rare for females that any women that did have beards usually ended up in the circus. At least, that's what they did in the past."
Skye tried to make Shoutmon feel better about her situation by saying she has memories of being in a far worse situation back as a soldier. "Oh that's right, you were a part of the 7/71st Recon, like Owen was. You're... probably not gonna like what Adrian's friend Johan had to say about his trip to this Elysium with Owen."
"We'll only tell you if you want to know," Adrian added, "granted that Owen hasn't already told you about it."
When they were inside the bar Adrian asked for Jorge and Hickory's stories. Hickory was born in a place called the Dark Area. Adrian had never heard of it but just the name alone sounded like a bunch of nope. He met Skye there and the two of them managed to escape. "I don't think I've heard much about the Dark Area. I doubt it's all sunshine and roses there, huh?"
Then was Jorge's story, which was more grand and more tragic. He was the king of an island that got into conflict with another island, causing Jorge's kingdom to die out. He's trying to learn from his mistakes in the process as well. Shoutmon himself wasn't a king, but he knew what Jorge was going through. "In my previous life my village was destroyed by a group of humans. It... drove me to develop a cruel hate towards humans. In the end, I... almost wiped out an entire country in the human world. It was Adrian and the rest of my friends that helped me get out of that dark place in my life. I'm still recovering, but I'm almost back to normal."
"Last year was insane. I'm surprised we made it out alive. But you know what they say: out of the frying pan, straight into the oven. Now we have Demon Lords and DATS to deal with."

Hm. It occurred to Skye that with humans, there was definitely more difference between males and females than there was with digimon. As she had been told by others, but it helped that a rumour was confirmed for her at least. "I see, that's interesting." she said, acknowledging this information.
Skye then raised an eyebrow as Shoutmon mentioned that he knew someone with dealings with Owen. Then he mentioned the incident in the Sunken Elysium. "Ah, yes, Owen told me about that himself." Skye assured him. "Rather concerning, to be honest. Hopefully none of the old DWR technology ends up in the wrong hands..." although somehow she knew that was rather unlikely to happen.
In the tavern, Hickory shook his head at Adrian's words. "No, there's no sunlight or plantlife there." he said, the purple and white Chuumon shuddering a little. "Just barren earth, scrap metal, and shady digimon."
"My advice, don't go to the Dark Area alone." Skye said. "Always take someone you trust, so they can watch your back. But don't go with an army though, that'll just be hell for all involved."
What Shoutmon said next made Skye, Hickory and Jorge take notice immediately. "Wait, you did what?" Jorge asked, his blue eyes widened with astonishment. "I mean... that's horrible that your village was wiped out, but... what did you hope to achieve by trying to wipe out an entire country?"
Skye was silent for a moment, trying to figure out what to say here. Yes, grief could do terrible things to digimon. But... there was something about this act that made her uncomfortable. She understood that in doing so, it was a difficult thing to admit. But, at least, she was glad he was being honest with her and letting her know early what sort of things he had done. Still though, she wanted to get to the bottom of it.
"It... won't happen again, will it?" she asked, hoping for a reassurance. For the moment she couldn't really care about the demon lords and DATS. Just that the demons that this digimon had were no further risk to the world that she cared about.
