Calm Before The Storm (Bloom)

Well...this was hardly unexpected. Dio wasn't actually hoping his attack would do any meaningful damage against the colossal bug, but at the very least he was hoping it would flinch a bit, but dissapointingly that wasn't the case. At the very least he had gotten it's attention away from Bloom, so that was a plus, though unfortunately that let made him the next biggest target.
Luckily Ollie was next in line to help out, wrapping her vines around him and pulling him out of danger in the nick of time.
"R-right. That was the second step of my plan." Truth be told, he hadn't thought about digivolving until Ollie brought it up, his mind so focused on the heat of the battle that possibility hadn't occured to him yet.
There was just a tiny problem...he didn't know how to do that. At least, not on his own. Without Carlos' help. At least he still had some time to figure it out as Ollie continued taking the attetion of the Okuwamon, at least for the time being.
As annoying as the teasing plant had been until then, he still couldn't bring himself to simply run and let her to the giant bug's mercy, even if it would have been incredibly easy to just hightail it out of there now. It didn't sit well with him, he wasn't about to let someone else die just for him and Bloom to live another day. That and Bloom probably would never forgive him for that.
"I..." The imp didn't know how to reply to Bloom. He didn't really have much of a plan as opposed to a bunch of loosely connected ideas and possibilities resembling one. But most if not all of the ones that didn't end with him being deleted involved digivolving, which was easier said than done. He closed his eyes, trying to think of something, anything else. But couldn't. All his mind could think about now was, oddly enough...Bloom. His mind kept going back to the day that brought them here today.
When he was little more than a weak, lone and sick kid stuck on his possibly dying bed, before someone better than him came along and gave him a second chance, tended to him and helped him come back from the brink. How he had taken that person for granted until then and how much that simple action had meant to him in the moment...hell how much it meant to him even now.
And how in an instant he had almost thrown all that away. in a way, this situation wasn't too different from that instant. Except that if he were to lose anything now, it would be permanent. And that was a terrifying idea. One he was not willing to entertain any longer.
His core was racing as the energy inside him grew further, the fear of losing everything, of losing her, slowly being consumed by something larger, stronger inside him. The need to protect that everything. Almost surprisingly, he found himself being gently touched by a familiar light surrounding his body, his core practically ready to burst forth in a surge of energy, emotion and willpower. His body wasn't far behind, shifting and changing into a far larger, more capable form.
Though just as he felt his strenght rising and the euphoric rush of evolution, he just as a soon felt a painful pang somewhere inside, like a chain tying itselt around his neck just as he was about to reach a full sprint. That's when the light faded, and he found himself in his Champion form that was Devidramon. That was...not part of the plan.
"Damn it!" The dragon cursed to himself, surprisingly feeling a small tinge of embarrasment over being suddenly stopped before reaching a higher, more capable form to face this threat. Clearly he wasn't fully in control of this newly found power yet, but there was no time to dwell on that.
"I'll keep it distracted. You two run or find help." He said, giving an aside glance to the plant, before charging head first into the bug, claws glowing a crimson red as he attempted to slash at the enemy, uncaring if it would make much of a dent on him or not.

So many things were happening at the same time it was hard to keep up, Ollie was holding to dear life in the hole hoping the Okuwamon doesn't reach her, the giant silver beetle was ramming its head towards the hole trying to move inch by inch to reach the plan, Bloom looking at Dio waiting and hoping the imp had a plan, and of course Dio panicking not knowing what to do.
Fortunately Dio manage to evolve and to have a fighting chance against that thing, unfortunately the nerves and pressure just let him reach up to Champion, but that should be enough to at least hold it off until Bloom and Ollie get some help, right?
Well... Credit when credit is due it did push the creature of the whole and even manage to leave a mark on his sturdy carapace, Bloom took that moment to scoop Ollie out of the whole and take a safer distance
"Come on! We gotta go get some help!"
"No! I don't want to leave him alone against that thing" Said Bloom, her eyes were wide and wasn't looking away from the fight, she wouldn't forgive herself if something happens to Dio now
"You can't do anything! We can't even harm that thing, we are just a distraction! Let the Dark Lord take care of it"
"But... But..." As painful as it was to admit Ollie was right, they couldn't do anything yet she still didn't wanted to leave
As for Dio and Okuwamon they were at a test of strength locking arms and pushing each other around, somehow the Devidramon was holding off the silver beetle and it was obvious that it was taking an unholy amount of strength and will power to do so, the Okuwamon was getting tired of this and focus all his strength to push Dio to the ground, if it had to devour the Devidramon first so be it!
It's mandibles shine with a red tone and went directly for Devidramon's waist, it was lucky that he was currently a champion because the amount of pressure the thing was putting would be enough to slice a rookie in half, Okuwamon held Dio on its mandibles applying as much pressure as it could trying to crush virus digimon, but that seemed to not be enough Okuwamon picked Devidramon and ram it against a tree with enough force that the tree fall, then it moves it's head back and release its grip of the evil dragon digimon throwing it behind him.
Meanwhile Bloom and Ollie didn't move and witness everything, this situation was horrible and putting a lot of frustration on the Palmon, Why? Just why did this needed to happen? Why can't she fight? She use to be a Bancho she should be able to fight and take that thing down but without Miyu around she can't do anything and has to watch as his friend get deleted, all this frustration just kept building up to the point that she fell to her knees and let out a scream
Meanwhile the Okuwamon was walking slowly towards Devidramon ready to keep its assault, it's mandible shined that scarlet red tone once again and it was ready to finish off the virus digimon, but as it was ready to bite down on Dio a roar echoed through the jungle and in the blink of an eye a figure appear in front of Devidramon and stop the attack of Okuwamon holding the mandibles with both arms
"Are you ok?" The figure said looking back at Dio, it was holding the attack of the beetle almost effortlessly "Heard some noises and scream and decided to investigate, hopefully I'm not too late" The figure smile and finally Dio was able to have a better look, it was a Leomon wearing a hat and having a coat resting on his shoulders "Go with your friends, I'll take care of this thing" Having said that he force the Okuwamon's mandible to the ground burying them
Once Dio move out of the way and back with the plants he would be receive by a hug from Bloom almost crying "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry" She kept repeating holding the arm of the dragon
"You ok? Who's that?" Ollie said looking at the new Digimon that arrive to fight the beetle

Admitedly, there was something deep within Dio that kept tugging at his mind, a quiet yet noticeable feeling of fear underneath all the bravado and adrenaline coursing through him as he slammed against the gigantic insect. He knew he was outmatched in every way, but listening to his survival instinct now could mean the death for the three of them. He had to think of another way out besides turning tail and running.
Soon the Okuwamon's attention was firmly locked on the dragon, and both combatants were now locked in a test of strenght and will, their arms interlocked and pushing eachother back. To Dio's credit and much to his own surprise, he was managing to keep his ground for the time being, granted he was putting his absolute all into it, and a single second of hesitation would be all the bug need to overpower him. Yet the dragon didn't cave in, something else giving him the strenght to continue. Call it adrenaline, call it willpower, or maybe something else, but he was not giving up nor losing any ground.
Well, at least until the bug seemingly grew tired of this stalemate and finally managed to overpower the Dark Lord, forcing him to the ground. It didn't deter Dio however, as his mouth began emitting a bright glow, a torrent of energy building up inside him as he prepared to blast the bug at point blank.
He let out a pained gasp, the energy and air leaving him as the bug's mandibles locked tightly around his waist. So much for willpower, that level difference was rearing it's ugly head again. Before he could even attempt to pry himself free the insect continued his unrelenting assault, rushing forward against a tree, the dragon still held tightly by the Okuwamon even as he found himself crushed between the weight of said tree and the insect. Dio's crumbled and limp body was only let go as the bug threw him back over his head, like a broken toy he was bored of playing with.
"...this...can't be it..." Was all the demon could manage to think as he lied on the floor, his body flickering in and out every time he attempted to get up. "...I can't die here. Else Bloom will..."
There were so many things for him left to say and do, yet he couldn't picture himself walking away from this. The looming shadow of the bug inched ever closer to him, and yet all he could do was look back. In any other time he would probably have been cursing Bloom about now, after all it was her idea to come here. Yet, all he could think about was how things might have turned out had he not been around. Perhaps this was the best possible outcome, the other two could still run away.
This rather depressing thought was swiftly interrupted however, as a voice he didn't recognize spoke up. He would glance back up and see a figure standing between himself and the bug. Someone he had never seen before and was now holding the Okuwamon back. As if the sheer surprise of the moment revived him, the dragon struggled back on his feet to get a better look at this new digimon.
A rather well built leomon wearing a hat and one of those black coats loved by japanese delinquents and weebs everywhere. "W-who...are you..." He asked, sounding more confused than grateful, if only slightly. He didn't question it much more than that, not so much walking as slumping back to Bloom's side, the dragon once again collapsing on his side as he tried to catch his breath back. It was ever so slightly (actually quite) embarrasing to have someone else saving him from danger after he willingly threw himself at it, but he couldn't really complain about it now.
Specially as he felt the warm and shaky embrace of Bloom around his arm, the plant apologizing profusely. He barely listened to that, softly (or as softly as something his size could) rubbing his head against the plant.
"Don't be...I'm fine, and you're safe. That's what matters." He wasn't lying, just the fact fate allowed them to be close like this again was good enough for Dio, even if he couldn't quite explain why it made him feel so at ease. So at ease in fact he didn't even notice his size had suddenly shrunked a fair bit, his form switching back to that of a battered imp whose arm was still being hugged, and whose head was blissfully resting in Bloom's shoulder and close to her head, his free arm now wrapped around her. Even if the bug were to target them next it didn't seem he cared, right now he wouldn't change his place for anything in the world.

Once the Devidramon was near his friends Leomon released the mandibles finally letting the beetle to move its hypothetical sight focus on the dragon and plants the one problem was the buff lion in the middle of the way, it should be easy for the thing to fly over and strike swiftly.
The Okuwamon took to the skies and then move towards the group but it wasn't going to go too far as BanchoLeomon reach the same height of the silver beetle with one jump and holding it from one of the legs it force it down to the ground, the ultimate digimon bounce of the floor after hitting it and lie face up almost motionless as the Bancho walk closer
"I'll make it quick, you leave and never comeback or I'll have to fight for real" Okuwamon might be a dumb vicious bug but even them should know how to pick their fights, right?
It seems they do as the Beetle stood up and leave on the opposite direction, Leomon smiled and walked towards the little group.
And the "dark lord" just ignore her, how rude! but truth be told Ollie couldn't be mad after such display of cuteness in front of her, these two are made for one another, the Floramon just sighed and turned her back giving the love birds a bit of space
As for Bloom, she was still apologizing even when Dio said that she didn't have to, it was almost impossible for her not to feel guilty over this, this was her whole idea after all and she was kind of witch with capital B with him earlier, and even so Dio decided to stood up for her and fight a most likely losing battle.
"I'm sorry... I was horrible to you and even so you jump to help me I... I just... You..." In all honesty her mind was racing and couldn't really think clearly to make a cohesive sentence, she just hug him tightly almost as if not wanting to let him go
"Am I interrupting something?" Leomon reach the group to check if they were OK
"Oh no, not at all, just "friends" doing "friend" things" Ollie shrugged back with her smug smile maybe they'll get the hint by now "I will be eternally grateful with you Mr. Leomon, you save us all"
Was at that moment that Bloom raised her head and saw Bancho Leomon and immediately recognize him, it was truly him just like in the past he arrive in time to help her, he was another key figure of her past so meeting him right now was a huge step to probably getting everything back!
But for some reason she couldn't muster the courage to talk to him, she wanted of course more than anything but it was going back to that thought of it it was really worth it to pursue who she once was instead of following the path this second chance gave her, that and all the frustration build up for being unable to help Dio just really make her thought it would be best to not say anything
"Don't mention it, head always up ready to fight the odds if it means helping those in need, that's what Banchos do" Leomon smiled at Ollie, tho it didn't last long as a buzz sound could be heard across the jungle, the Okuwamon was coming back with his mandibles ready to attack, BanchoLeomon just sighed "Good grief..."
His fist ignited in fire and turn around to face the incoming beetle, he throw a punch and the fire in his fist was shot taking the form of a lion head that quickly eat up and engulf in flames the Ultimate digimon who soon turn into bits that fly into the sky hopefully to be reform in the village of beginnings.
"They never pick to go peacefully" He sighed one more time and then walked up to Dio, he crouch to be at the same height as the imp and said "You ok there kiddo? You did something incredibly stupid but at the same time brave, be proud today, but you should pick your battles carefully" He gave a pat to the Imp's head

"D-don't, really. It's what...it was the right thing to do, right?" The imp stammered, now unsure what to say to stop the palmon from continuing her merciless, if clearly confused self deprecation. But frankly it was also getting harder for him to formulate coherent words, too enraptured by the momentary bliss this embrace brought.
If it were up to him, he would have never let go...but unfortunately, the unknown voice that came from the new arrival was just enough to get the two to finally snap out of it and pay attention to their surroundings again, though he still didn't acknowledge Ollie's smug teasing, there were more pressing matters at the moment.
Truth be told, he had mixed feelings about this Bancho. On the one hand he had just saved his life, and even the egomaniac that he was had to feel some small amount of gratitude torwards him. But on the other, it was hard to ignore that feeling of shattered pride that came from being saved by someone clearly stronger, not unlike a cat being brought down from a tree by a fireman.
And even so he was willing to try and keep a cool head about this, trying to be the bigger mon as it were and graciously accept help when it came his way...or at least he would have, before the Leomon jumped and crushed whatever was left of his pride in one fell swoop as he quite literally obliterated the returning bug in a single punch.
And as if to drive the point further, just to dig the knife deeper, the Bancho Leomon crouched down to his level, giving him a *pat*. As if he were a mere child being reprimanded for trying to cross the street on his own.
Perhaps it was the mounting frustration with everything that had been happening to him that day, perhaps he was still riding the high from his near encounter with death, or perhaps that last headpat was all it took to finally send him over the edge, but Dio was very quick to take a defiant step back away from his petting, glaring at the crouching yet stil towering lion as he wagged his index finger in a most indignant fashion.
"Tch, it's not like I had much of a choice!" He snapped, scowling so much he practically bared his tiny fangs at the leomon. He couldn't take it anymore, he had to speak his mind. He couldn't just swallow what little was left of his pride here, not in front of Bloom. "In case you big oaf didn't notice I was the only thing keeping that bug from chowing down on us. I couldn't just sit back and do nothing, and we sure as hell couldn't possibly outrun it, so I did the only thing I could do. So please, enlighten me. How else were we supposed to deal with it?!"
There was, admitedly, a moment of panic as he realized the words that came out of him and how he had said them. He worried that perhaps...was there a possibility of Bloom taking this the wrong way?

OK, maybe BanchoLeomon took it a bit further with the headpat, he did imagine that the imp would jump back and at worst glare at him, he did not expected to talk back in that tone, "A prideful one aren't you?" He thought for himself, normally he would let it slide as just a young one acting on instinct and not realizing the danger he was in, so the lecture wouldn't be necesary, but the way Dio talk to him really made him think twice, it's clear the imp was aware of the danger and while not the best choice of action he does believe that he did the right think, and it was sort of asking for it so might as well give it the answer he wants, even if it hurts the already damaged pride
"First thing I'll make clear that I don't try to minimize your actions nor I berate you for it" He look at Dio in the eyes dead serious "That said, do you know how much you would've lasted? And if you do you think that would've been enough to buy time for your friends to escape?" With how easy the so called Darklord was turned into the chewtoy of that Okuwamon everyone with a brain would realize that it was a lost cause "You had no other choice? Couldn't you grab them and fly away? Sure, you wouldn't out run it in the air but being faster it means that it can be easy to predict it's trayectory in the air, you can think ahead and dodge out of the way, it's not like that huge body will be able to do a sharp 180 in seconds, you coulr run deep into the woods, a body that huge won't catch you with so many trees in the middle without throwing them down and making even more obstacles for it" Finally he stood up and turn to leave "Fighting is not always the answer, learn which battles you can win, think what would happen if you fail to win said fight, don't be selfish because thinking that if you win you save them, if you do not then you die and how you think your friends would feel?" With that said the Leomon started to make his leave
Or was until Bloom finally got the courage to move and talk to him, she mainly ask if she could talk to him a bit more in private and both took some steps away from Dio and Ollie to have said talk, honestly the Floramon would love for this day to end, sure nice thing happen because she officially got the house but almost dying and all this last couple of minutes really weren't her cup of tea
"That must've stung" The plant walked over to Dio but rather than to keep rubbing salt in the wound, the Floramon bend over and gave him a kiss on the cheek "If it makes you feel better you did save us and you are a hero to me! If things were a bit different I would've give you a true reward but you got the cake earlier and a kiss on the cheek should be enough, I don't want her to be mad at me" Said Ollie with that smug smile on her face "And trust me, no matter what he said or even if he is right, I'm sure she won't forget this, relax you won't be replaced by that big lion, I can asure you that much, if you need anything I'll be on my home" The Floramon winked and leave to go inside
The talk between Bloom and Leomon took some more minutes, Dio would have no idea what they were talking but one thing was for sure, Bloom was more relaxed and she even smiled from time to time, after a couple of minutes they parted ways and Bloom returned to Dio, she didn't say one word she just went ahead and hug him
"Thank you... You kept your promise, I misjudge you and I wanted to tell you how bad I feel" she sighed still holding the imp on her arms "I've been horrible and toxic with you the whole day yet you never left me and even risk your life for me, you prove you are the better mon and I owe you an apologize for it" She finally let go and look at him straight in the eyes "I'm sorry for everything that happen today and I really appreciate you coming here with me and helping me out, once we are home I promise I'll explain everything to Carlos and I'll take the blame for this" She then hold Dio's hand and with a smile said "I'm ready to leave when you are"

As the piercing, scathing glare of the lion man came down on Dio, something that very seldom happened to him manifested. He felt something that had been absent as he charged that gigantic bug, or really most foes he had faced. He felt intimidated, no in small part due to how swiftly he had dispatched the threat that had easily overpowered Dio. But there was something else. Something he couldn't quite put into words that made him feel uneasy. Like he had accidentally gotten to close to a volcano and was only now feeling the scorching heat emanating from it.
He still returned the glare with defiance, but it was clear something inside him was already faltering. And that was before Bancho gave him an answer. And what an answer he gave.
He was direct. Merciless and without even the slightest hint of remorse in how sincere he was. Each argument -no, each word cut into him with the strenght of a hundred small daggers, slicing up his already shattered ego into even smaller ribbons.
The worst part wasn't that however. It was that Dio knew for a fact he was right. He was right about everything. There were other better options he didn't consider at the moment. He had acted in a needlessly reckless manner. And if Bancho hadn't been there, it would have all amounted to nothing.
"I...I..." He stammered, all the spark in his eyes completely gone, his soul already admitting defeat even before his mind could process it. "You...you don't...and I...gah...it's not that sim..." Eventually, even he knew it was pointless to argue. There was no coming back from this. No argument he could come up with would be able to rebuke anything that had been said. And clearly Bancho was not going to wait around for him to think of something. Much like he had just told him, this was a battle he simply couldn't win.
He fell back on his rump, eyes locked on the ground in front of him, completely dejected. Had he been alone, there would have been nothing holding back the frustrated tears he could feel welling up in his eyes. Though luckily for him, Bloom quickly went after the lion, clearly wanting to talk to him.
What about? Dio didn't know, and couldn't really be bothered to care at the moment. He just sighed a silent breath of relief as he was left behind by her, taking the opportunity to wipe his increasingly wet eyes with the back of his hand.
"Damnit...you blasted imbecile..." he muttered to himself, not sure if he was cursing himself or the Bancho. What a pathetic sight he must have been, no better than a spoiled kid crying over being put in his place by a grownup. Had his body not been in almost as much pain as his ego, he would have gotten up and left right there and then. Not like Bloom would care...she deserved something better than him.
That train of thought was suddenly stopped as he heard a familiar voice close to him. Right, he had completely forgotten about Ollie.
"You can say that again..." He said, bitterly, no longer having the will to try and tell her off. If she wanted to make fun of him this was her chance, it's not like he could be brought down even more. So of course with such a bleak thought in mind, his eyes went completely wide open as he felt the warmness of her lips on his cheek. He turned to her, complete beffudlement in his face as words failed him yet again.
Even with her teasing words that did elicit a rather strong blushing in his face ("r-reward?"), he felt...something inside him being mended, somehow. A...hero? Those were certainly strong words, but he could tell she meant every one of them. And...that was enough for him. Even with his face as red as it could get, he managed the tiniest of smiles. She could read him like a book, that was for certain. He didn't get to say anything until she had almost dissapeared completely behind the door to her home, but he still managed to get something out that...frankly he never expected to say to her.
"Thank you, Ollie."
And that, as they said, was that. He managed to get back on his feet with some difficulty, dusted himself off, and stood by the little cabin as he waited for Bloom to return. She didn't make him wait for long, at least. While he wasn't expecting yet another hug from her, he was sure quick to reciprocate it with one of his own, a sigh of relief once again escaping him as they embraced.
Once she was done apologizing yet again, he'd look at her in the eye and shake his head a bit. "You had every right to expect the worst from me. I've acted like an ass before, both to you and everyone else and...well it means the world to me that you even considered giving me a second chance." He smiled, his hand almost unconsciously but quite gently reaching for her cheek. "Sides, it's not like you called that bug to come here. Also I don't think Carlos would be too surprised to know I threw myself head first into danger, so you don't have to apologize for that either."
Having said that he nodded in agreement, gently but tightly holding her hand as well.
"Yeah, let's just...go home. It's been a long day." He said with a tired smile, before adding with the slightest hint of a blush in his face, "Oh, and Bloom? ...thank you."
