It was honestly hard to believe that anything was out here in the middle of nowhere. The Forsaken Wasteland was a unique landscape, even in the Digital World: devoid of light by a perpetual mix of ash and thick clouds overhead, the soil underfoot stood dry and barren, shifting with a grating crunch with each step. The only plants that did manage to grow in this hell-scape was a thick, weedy root, one that one could swear was almost specifically meant to get caught right around someone's foot and cause them to fall flat on their face. Only a few dared travel out here - mostly to try and hide from the law - but the wasteland's oppressive nature made such efforts only last days at most.
So why on earth was it the central point of an S-Rank mission?
At the established coordinates - a good quarter mile into the wasteland itself - one would find a set of ten staves embedded into the ground, each tipped with a small white crystal that gave off a fairly strong glow, enough to finally see the grayish soil underneath.
"Seriously, you two have me dragged out here for some kind of wild goose chase?" A tamer (X) gave a sigh, his partner Deputymon looking on as the man boredly sat on the ground.
Nearby, a Datamon quipped: "Hey, you're the one who came back to us after that whole mess. We'd apologize for before, but whatever mess you get into now is on you."
"Well, seems our resident cynic's up and about a bit early this time, isn't he?" The fourth and final figure, a Wizardmon, shared a small laugh at that - the sorcerer himself the least concerned about the damnable place he was standing. "Anyway, you already said that we'll probably find nothing, so what's a day off for you, ya bucket of bolts?"
"Tch. All I'm saying is I'll believe it when I see it. We're stuck paying this out of our own pocket if this turns out to be a waste of time..." CrossAyaka and Coolmon@holly Carlos Rey

This excursion had been viewed as two wildly different things by Aya and Coolmon. The latter had a small history here, and the former did not. The journey here had been quick, relatively. Setting out from the construction site that was Deeplane meant it wasn't as long of a trip as getting on a Trailmon and waiting a long while before having to hike to the coordinates in heels.
Upon actually reaching the coordinates, the lilac-haired woman raised a hand in greeting as she and Coolmon entered upon the scene. "Greetings. Um, I take it you're the ones that put out the coordinates for this mission?" Aya inquired, quietly but politely. "I'm one of the responders--Aya Maeda, and this is Coolmon."
Speaking of? Coolmon locked eyes with the Deputymon and the tamer. "Heeey...I remember you guys! Nice to see you're still alive! And that the weird girl and the weirder cat didn't scare you for life."
That was one of the responders, now what of the others?

The Dark area.
The Forgotten Wasteland.
Some of the most dangerous parts of the entire digital world, not because just of it's denizens but also because of the active D-reapers that plagued it. The history behind this place was as baffling as it's potential future, a future that was lost on thoughtful green eyes.
It was the kind of place that sang to her instincts, the sort of place that as she traveled through the ash, through the dry and barren outskirts. The sort of place that told her to turn back, the sort of place that made her fur stand on end. The whispers and gentle reminders of her own power did little to sate her nervousness.
Did little to sate her worry.
Her parents had been quite firm about her using her skills properly, about using everything she had. It was the first mission she signed up with properly with the mission guild. She almost hadn't signed up, but she saw that it was investigative. She had things she could do that would make that easier; but it was the class that gave her thoughtful pause.
Why was it so dangerous there? What was making it dangerous? Her digging gave answers she didn't want. Gave her goosebumps and other reactions that were less pleasurable. But thankfully those reactions were far gone by the time she boarded the ferry to the dark area.
The first that anyone around the coordinates would hear of her was a quick pattering of feet. Several black furred meicrackmon's ran in an lazy formation; the one in the middle reacting to the 'location' before the others followed suit in various fashions.
Curiosity was first.
Confusion was next.
Those assessing green eyes locked on Coolmon and Aya; one of the others to respond to this call to action. Was she the second one here? The gaggle of meicrackmon's slid to a halt and with a wave of her hand the four clones vanished leaving the last to approach on her own. She had used those clones to make her look far more dangerous to any potential problems on the way to the wastes. Silence was the first thing that greeted everyone, the next was an cheerful sigh and introduction!
"....Hiya! I'm Holly~ How many more we waiting on?"
The meicrackmon bristled, adjusting herself a bit and rolling her shoulders. She was hyped for all of this, excited even. But the problem with the 'missions' before is she knew what was going on. This time she was going in blind; without an initial plan.

"If it's nothing~" A voice echoed out of the darkness as the rather ragged and worn form of a small female Wizardmon slunk out of the shadows. The wind that tore through the wastes tugging at the fraying edges of their cloak forcing the Mage to hold their hat in place obscuring their face in the shadow as they peered out at the assembled group from beneath the brim with softly glowing crimson eyes. "Then I'll answer for it myself." The Feminine Spellcaster assured the Datamon, and her own male counterpart with a shallow nod. Their eyes catching briefly on the human tamer and widening a scant fraction with something akin to recognition and briefly fear as their sweeping gaze caught on a familiar Meicoomon. Familiar to them at least though given recent tidings...they would likely not be familiar to her. It seemed already the situation was becoming complicated. "The name is Cross. I will be your Diplomat and Medic for this venture." The Wizardmon introduced herself, "With luck my medical skills won't be required."

Taking more than one S ranked mission within the same week would probably be seen as overworking and being downright unreasonable for most people, even seasoned tamers and old digimon. Neither Carlos nor his partners could fit into these cathegories, so why were they on the way to join another one? Really, it was simple: the mission mentioned a name they were already far too familiar with not to want to investigate, the D-Reaper. They had been around the general area during the start one of some of the D-Reaper related incidents for sure, but they had never managed to stick around to see the aftermath, only heard about it from word of mouth and the people that had been present.
This time around however, now that they had the chance to visit one of the more negatively affected places by this crisis to see if it could be fixed, well, it was too good for them to pass up.
Though of course that meant they had to take yet another trip down to the familiar hellish landscape of the Dark Area, with it's sunless atmosphere, cold and harsh winds and hard to traverse desert.
Of course this would have probably meant a lot more had the trio been out there in the field, exposed to the elements and not driving down the so called "Forsaken Wasteland" on an armored van, haphazardly painted over with purple and black colors. Not the most subtle looking of vehicles, but it got the job done. Granted, outside the Digizoid plating most of the actual protection the van offered was psychological, as Carlos was much too aware any sufficiently big digimon could simply fling the vehicle around like a toy, but as long as he didn't see that happen he felt relatively safer being behind the wheel as opossed to being out there in the open.
This was not to last as he soon noticed some lights on the distance, clearly marking the rendezvous point for the mission. Slowly parking the garishly colored van close to the circle the engine would slowly grind to a halt as the man got off his vehicle, the twins jumping out behind him. "Hi there!" Gio was the first to talk, the blackguilmon greeting the group reunited so far with a toothy grin, before doing a little bow. "Gio, Dio and Carlos reporting for duty!"
Dio meanwhile just rolled his eyes. Would it be too obvious his brother had been rehearsing that for the past half hour?
"Sorry for the delay, the road here wasn't exactly well kept. Hope we didn't keep you all waiting too long." The man said, quickly glancing at the group to see if everyone else was accounted for and if he happened to recognize someone. Other than a somewhat familiar looking Wizardmon, there were no familiar faces to be found here.

"Hm? Oh, yes, yes, that would be us." Naturally, it didn't take long for the group to start to roll into this well-lit spot of the darkness - though that light did betray something that wasn't obvious at first glance. Something that put the Datamon off on edge
"... Ugh, Wizardmon, do something about the shoe situation here. Its the desert, she's gonna snap her ankle the moment she has to run anywhere."
"... Right..." With a sigh, the Wizardmon gave a small flick of his wrist, the thick, worn leather shoes of a Wizardmon landing right at her feet. "I know the Digital World has a thing with changing some tamers' clothing, but we still prefer people dress appropriately for the occasion."
"Hm?" Moeru blinked, giving an idle wave over to the Coolmon. Who was - ah, right! "Oh, yeah! You bailed me out of quite the situation there - nah, things have managed to hold up well enough around here."
One group down, three more to arrive. Next was Holly, Holly, and oh-so-many Hollys, and as the black-furred MeiCrackmon dwindled down to one, the sorcerer gave a nod. "Ah, well met! Just two - well, one more, now." Nodding as Cross made her appearance, the group waited for the last arrival.
An arrival that came in a van. Seeing the headlights die off, the Datamon gave a small blink to the BlackGuilmon, before giving a sigh. "Moeru, you see it?"
"Yeah, I'm on it. Deputy?"
One pistol was raised, craned right up towards the air in the direction Carlos came from - and with a bright flash of red, a single bullet soared out, the passing flash revealing a now-squawking Saberdramon, flailing as it took off in the opposite direction! Casually, Moeru gave a smile and explained: "Ya gotta be careful 'round here. Your headlights are like a big beacon, and the sound of your engine cut off your Digimon's ability to hear."
"Regardless, good to have you here. And with everyone sorted..." The Wizardmon raised his staff - and a number of the staves pivoted into the ground uprooted, flew next to each new figure here, and if necessary reduced themselves in size to make them easier to handle. That sorted out light in the short term, at least.
"Guess we should introduce ourselves. I'm Wizardmon and this is Datamon; the two of us are environmental analysts and researchers of the Dark Area. This is Moeru and Deputymon," the tamer waved, the gunner tipping his hat, "part of the D-Reaper response team and unfortunately not getting paid mission-level fees to deal with me today."
"Well, when you put it that way..."
"Anyway, we're about three-quarters of a mile or so north of the stated coordinates, and unfortunately, we'll have to hoof the rest of it by foot. The sand gets deep in that direction, so vehicles will just get bogged down. As for what we're doing, well, whatever we see, we're going to investigate."
"Pay attention to those staffs. Those are tuned to Wizardmon's data, so if you get lost, you can always follow the 'pull' to get right back to him. Make sure you don't lose them and make sure you don't get separated - I can't guarantee we'll be able to find you way out in pitch-black darkness."
"Power in numbers and all that!" The Wizardmon grinned. "Anyway, let's not waste too much time here." Shoes sorted? Perfect! The sorcerer would lead the way, the Datamon bringing up the rear of the group, as they made their way further southward.
Deputymon uses Red Shot.

The Wizardmon lifted a hand as if to speak, then paused as if lost for words. Her lightly glowing crimson gaze centered on the Deputymon and Tamer pair as she opened her mouth, then closed it, then opened it again mildly grateful for the concealment of her scarf and the darkness of her hat brim to conceal the frankly dumbfounded look on her face as every single one of her concerns were confirmed. Then squaring her shoulder the feminine mage marched up to the red haired human, digging into the satchel slung against her side and pulled out a thin silver disk. Grabbing the man by the shirt she yanked him down to her level and slapped said disk onto his front with a low growl of "Do. Not. Remove. This. Under. ANY. Circumstance." As the soft glow of the EV suit surrounded him rapidly lowering the ambient temperature around him to a chilly, but not harmful thirty-five degrees.
The Deputymon was next as Cross caught him by the scarf, yanking him close enough he could see the sharp familiar crimson glow of her eyes before slapping a similar EV suit to the side of his barrel. "Same goes for you. We are not taking any chances." She muttered digging into her bag once more and wishing she was able to masquerade as Argent without risking tipping her hand. If so she would have likely complained heavily about the Wizardmon's choice of escort, but instead settled for arching a brow at him before shoving a red card into the Tamer's hand.
"You two are the pair from the first D-reaper casualty report aren't you?" She asked softly pitching her voice so it wouldn't carry. "Are you sure you want to be out here? I won't tell you to leave, but if you feel even the tiniest inkling of the D-Reaper I need you to warn me. I'm one of the first responders they trained to deal with this sort of thing." She explained in a soft whisper concern clear in those familiar crimson eyes despite her gruffness.
"When this is over find me again. I know of someone that can treat your...condition." Cross murmured the words meant for the Tamer only before she stepped back with a nod. Grasping the lit stave she strapped it to her back beside her own unused one with a sigh and a soft mutter of. "Great more sticks. At least this one is useful." Before signalling her own ride to hang back. The sand would not interfere with Behemoth, but the bike lurking in the darkness was a dead giveaway that Doctor Cassandra was far from dead.

Holly tilted her head just a little bit when the sorcerer addressed that they were waiting for just one more? Was she seriously the second to last? She'd have to get faster in due time wouldn't she? She'd rub at the back of her neck and let out an irritated huff. Perhaps if she could fly or something she would of gotten here sooner.
However the meicrackmon was a touch surprised to see that the Deputymon so quick to react to a threat she didn't even register. As well as... Well hey wasn't that her Uncles? Uncle Dio, Uncle Carlos... wait who was Gio? Was he an uncle to her too? There was a momentary pause; the meicrackmon forgot where she was at and before she even could really register she'd move to basically tackle hug the three of them!
"Uncle Dio! Uncle Carlos... and... Well probably Uncle Gio! I didn't see that you guys signed up for this!"
The meicrackmon's lips broke into a huge grin; though it'd take her a moment to realize where they were at and she'd just manage a cough before adjusting herself. She'd rub at the back of her head again and turn to the people that were responsible for the mission itself. Holly went dead silent and rubbed at her chin as they explained what they had to do, what they were doing which was investigating and... well the staffs. Holly's eyes locked onto those staffs and moved over to them.
She'd yank it out of the ground, give it a testing squeeze to sort of gauge the item itself before turning her head to the Mage that was well.. Now basically forcing them to wear an EV suit? She couldn't help but blink and then bite her lower lip.
"Do you think there's gonna be D-reapers in there? Missus Cross?"
Holly had heard the horror stories from some folks about that entire event, or in the other places that had dealt with the D-reapers cropping up. She barely knew anything about that entire incident... past the last course of it all of it was well before her time!
The similarity of Cross' name wasn't lost on holly, nor was the fact that they were a medic of all things. But she figured if Dr. Cassandra was pretending to be something she was not it was with a good reason. So she'd hold her tongue, be a good girl and just work with the mage that was either a proxy or the good doctor herself... somehow.
That or she just took the Doc's name up and works with her... that could be the case. Not many mages would even have that name.
"I might not be trained for it but if you need help Ms. Cross for treating stuff lemme know! I'm... gonna be studying doctor stuff soon and it's kinda a breeze for me? So some on hands experience would be uh. Well. Good. Ish?"

"Well, good to hear!" Coolmon replied towards Moeru. Aya had...heard about the scuffle that her partner had with this guy--Apparently he nicked her in the shoulder? That whole story was pretty wild, and one she had a hard time believing. Seriously, Coolmon bounced back an attack several levels higher than she was?
"...Hold on." Aya began. "You were serious when you said all that stuff about the Paratice Head and the Justimon? And getting shot in the shoulder?"
"Well, I don't really lie when I tell stories, y'know..." Was all that Coolmon replied with. This exchange might or might not be something that the good Doctor could infer a few things from. Nonetheless, the pair turned towards the other arrivals as they came, giving each a nod.
Aya took a deep breath. "Well, I'm a med student but I don't think I'm qualified to treat any injuries that might pop up...My fault, really. I'll try my best to help if need be." She didn't mind the changing of her heels to shoes--it was actually incredibly welcome. She went to go pick a staff up, and nodded to her compatriots. "Anyways, my name's Aya--the Cutemon's name is...Coolmon. Nice to meet you five." A second introduction for the people who didn't arrive when they said their names.
"So, if anything else isn't in order, shouldn't we get going?" Coolmon inquired, looking like she was raring to get going. Aya shook her head. "...On the givers' word." She decided.

The sudden flash of red and the appearance of that Saberdramon that had apparently been stalking them for a while now was quite a bit of scary reveal for the trio, a dark remainder of how unforgiving and harsh the Dark Area could be, heck even Dio seemed at a loss for words. It was quite startling, but all things considered Carlos seemed to take it in stride. At least, compared to how he would have reacted to this same situation a couple months ago, if anything he was glad Deputymon was so quick on the draw.
"...Guess you can never be too safe down here." He sighed, nodding gratefully in the tamer's direction, before giving a short glare in the Impmon's direction looking not so much angry as...annoyed. "So much for trusting you guys as lookouts though."
"I thought that was Dio's job..."
"Mine? The Dark Lord never agreed to that!"
The little spat was abruptly cut short as the three of them were quite suddenly tacklehugged by the tall Meicrackmon of the group. While took all of them by surprise, they all were quick to react differently to this. For starters Carlos was (understandably) surprised at first, but was quick to return both the smile, hug and even a small ruffling of the digimon's hair.
"Holly! Gosh sorry I didn't recognize you, you're so grown up." He said, now more happy to see a familiar face down in such a bleak place, though he'd soon raise an eyebrow too. "Did you uhm...ask permission to your parents to come?"
Dio meanwhile was somewhat uncomfortable for a good moment, the black furred cat's embrace bringing back some rather unhappy memories for a moment, but hearing her words was enough to bring him back to reality, where he would wordlessly pet the cat's head, a weak smile on his face. As for Gio? He didn't even hesitate for a second before reciprocating the hug, softly nuzzling his head against the cat's soft fur for good measure even before she addressed him by name, though he did pause for a moment to look at the man in confusion once Holly talked.
""Uncle Gio"? Carlos, what's an uncle?" He tilted his head, a curious look in his golden eyes. Carlos, knowing how the small lizard mind worked when learning new concepts decided it would be better for everyone's time if he left the thorough explanations for after the mission. Though of course he wasn't going to leave the childish digimon in the dark either.
"I'll explain back home, but right now it means you should love and look after Holly here. Got it?"
"Will do!" The blackguilmon nodded once, not even questioning his words before he went back for another quick hug. It was clear as day he had already taken a liking for Holly, not everyone was so quick to hug him after all!
Carlos was now however paying more close attention to what the mission givers had to say, silently nodding as he kept a tight grip on his designated staff. Don't split up, avoid the darkness and make their way up North on foot without dying. Seemed like afairly straightfoward affair, but knowing Carlos' luck with missions on the Dark Area this would be anything but.
"I think we're set. Just lead the way." He nodded simply at the Wizardmon, eyes following Cross's movements as she seemed to be setting up EV barriers on both the Deputymon and Moeru. Why exactly just for them? That was lost on him and he wasn't about to ask or care, were it not for Holly's...choice words for adressing the Wizardmon.
"...Ms. Cross?" He muttered to himself, the name seemed rather familiar to him but he wasn't quite sure why. Of course besides the only other person he knew by that last name but... Whatever he was thinking was soon interrupted by the curious glance from Gio, as if silently asking if there was anything wrong. "Nevermind, just lost in thought."

"Nah, don't worry about it, man." Moeru gave a chuckle. "Earshot's pretty much the only way you can keep track of something like that - otherwise, Deputy here would be dead-on with his aim."
Unfortunately, that story with the Coolmon was true - but before the tamer had a chance to respond, the other Wizardmon was pulling him down to her level. "Hey, what are you - hm?" Okay, what was this, what was she doing, and why was it so freaking cold? Heck, this spellcaster even put the same disc on his partner, some kind of angered desperation in Cross' voice.
"Um..."
"Not that I don't understand your concern, but honestly I'd at least ask before touching my employee..." The Datamon sighed, shaking his head. "Disable that for now, there's a switch on the inside. You won't be able to use your eyes for anything with it on, but you can flick it back if things get dicey."
"To clarify," Moeru disabled his own device, "my job is to track and hunt nests as it is. Ever since that incident, I've been working with a Witchmon and Wizardmon here to establish mental blocks." Cross might think it was just patchwork, but in an occupation where continual infection was unavoidable, perhaps it was a better answer?
Wizardmon wasn't here to argue, in any case. He gave a cough, cutting back into the conversation. "To answer our MeiCrackmon's question, there's potential, but not to any severe degree. With how the Dark Area is now, you'll inevitably see glowing lichen and weird patches of silver grass, but there's no evidence that a core or any individual agents are near this location."
"Don't feel relaxed just because that's the case, though! The D-Reaper is predictable, especially around here. I'd be more concerned running into just about anything else." The Wizardmon rolled his eyes at the Datamon's caution. Yes, yes, great confidence builder. Tense relations aside, it didn't take long for the Wizardmon to lead the group deeper into the wasteland, right towards those referenced coordinates. There was always a sense of tensity moving into the darkness like this, but for the Datamon, there was a different sense of dread. What if they just walked out for an hour, found nothing, and came right back? He wasn't hopeful to begin with - the Wasteland had little practical use when it came to maintaining the rest of the Digital World. The Sea of Blood at least made some of the Dark Area habitable, but what could honestly matter way out here?
For a good ten or so minutes, the group moved in relative silence. Save for perhaps a few feet caught in the weeds below, there was not a sound or a sight to behold in this decrepit area. Just when it seemed like nothing would happen...
... There was finally something. A grating sound, a shift in the sand as the grains ground against each-other, as a Digimon darted in front of the group:
An Antylamon. With a glare, the hare's red eyes briefly locked onto the group with intense interest, before darting straight away from them, veering slightly off to the left as it left them in the darkness.
"... Is he trying to goad us on?" What was that? A threat, scouting, an invitation?
"Who cares, it's the only lead we got! Don't let it slip away!"

"The EV suits double as hazmat suits. While we're unlikely to encounter the D-reaper if you have a reaction it would allow us to safely handle you both without risking the infection spreading to others. Mental blocks don't exactly prevent physically contagious diseases." The Female Wizardmon sighed out running a gloved hand over the visible part of her face in exasperation before shrugging it off. They weren't here to listen to her medical talks and if she elaborated more she'd give herself away.
Otherwise she'd tell them that while she had a great deal of respect for Wicked the Witchmon, Wizardmon while her academic college couldn't be trusted when it came to health and well being of anyone other then him and Datamon further then he could be thrown and probably less then that. Still, adjusting her pack she fell into silence trudging on with the rest of the group as her eyes darted over the blackened landscape only to latch onto the rabbit Digimon as it crossed their path.
For a brief moment she stumbled to a stop thinking it might be Cherry, but no. Cherry was safe in Tenebrous with Sorcerimon and neither of them would be returning to the Dark Area so this...She wondered if it was the Man's partner?
"Right," Cross murmured giving chase with the others. Careful to keep to the middle of the pack.

"That may be the case, but I think that Ms. Cross and Ms. Holly have a point in all of this...preparation. Predictable or not, you can't be too careful around here..." Aya offered as the group began to embark to their destination. "Plus, Ms. Cross is correct--mental blocks aren't that good for a physical condition. Unless maybe it affects the mind...?"
Coolmon, meanwhile, gave another glance to Carlos (and his gaggle) and Holly.
"...Huh, you're all family?" The rabbit framed that as a genuine question. "Must be pretty neat tackling missions together--I'd do that with mine more often if I knew where they were." Even if her question was answered, they were met with the same thing. Silence. A dreadful, tenuous silence.
Aya and Coolmon kept close to the front. The latter could take a good few hits, so naturally covering the front was her forte in this situation. But, the rabbit found herself staring right at the Antylamon when it appeared. Deja vu. "...I think we might be going into a trap, but...That's just me. We need to stick together either way--it's dark here. So, Aya and I won't move unless you guys do."

Holly's ears flicked and she'd turn her head quietly, her greenish eyes locking onto the coolmon and her tamer. Were they a family? Well technically no. But there was a weird string of events that basically lead to it; was this really the time or place to explain it? Well in any other scenario sure, but even with the seriousness of the entire situation holly didn't seem to mind sharing a little bit of information!
"Well technically I think they're technically godfathers, but saying uncle is easier. Or are they really uncles?"
She'd turn her head back to carlos, dio and Gio. Her brow furrowed and she'd rub her chin thoughtfully. Her ears flicked a few times as she was trying to think it over.
"Are you guys related to my ma? I mean you don't look like you would be. Cause she's got the white fur and is a fox. You're a lizard dragon and you're uh... What are impmon's exactly? Demons? Devils? The reincarnation of a base desire in a spectrum of coding that we don't understand? Wait. No. That's something else. Err... Forget I said that."
Holly flicked her ears again and spun that 'stick' around thoughtfully. Honestly the fact they had lights on them made this a whole lot easier right? She was pleased that the group were quick to answer any questions. Though the idea of running into the D-reapers terrified her, she felt her fur shift and a shiver run up her spine.
Then there was the movement through the darkness, walking quietly. Ten or so minutes went by and the meicrackmon seemed a little nervous. Jittery even, she'd mumble to herself here or there and at the appearance of an antylamon with red eyes made her pause visibly.
"...Are antylamons normally found in the dark area- H-hey wait! MR. BUN BUN!"
Holly perked up and would of shot forward, well actually she did shoot forward but holly's tiny amount of self control stopped her and she'd slide to an awkward stop. Though her momentum was too much to cancel out the meicrackmon tripped, faceplanted and had her 'staff' raised above her head. The muffled mumbling that followed was better heard once she got back up, dusting off her face with a mixed look.
"Da told me to be careful and here I am chasing after a rabbit with red eyes moment he pops up... smart holly. Really smart."

Family? Yeah you could say that." Dio replied to the cutemon's question, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. That was something he had never questioned before, did this count as being family? Even if his only real ties to Holly (and by extension Syre) were only there because they were good friends with their parents. Carlos however, didn't seem nearly as conflicted.
"I suppose godfather would be more accurate than uncle in this case, but you're right: uncle rolls off the tongue better." Carlos added on to Holly's point with a nod.
"We're not really related though...at least not that I'm aware of." Dio said, while Gio seemed just...as oblivious as ever.
"I don't even know who we're talking about!" Gio chirped as happily and absentmindedly as usual.
"If I know anything about family is that being related it's kinda...optional." He shrugged, patting his two partners' heads as well. That...probably made a bit more sense in his head but this was hardly the time to elaborate, they had to get going.
And besides to be fair there was technically some K related data flowing within Dio but how that got there was better left ignored for the time being. They had spend enough time discussing family for the day...though it was certainly a more cheery thing to think about compared to the Datamon's wary words.
The trio advanced through the seemingly never ending darkness with the rest of the group, the safety in numbers doing little to dispel their worries as they kept going deeper and deeper into this bleak territory. Things were already unbearably tense now when there was nothing actually happening...so when an Antilamon quite literally popped out of nowhere and dissapeared back into the shadows it was nothing short of startling.
Both Carlos and Dio stood their ground, as if expecting something else to jump out from the darkness at any minute while Gio, clearly taking his newly assigned role as an uncle very seriously, was quick to run to the Meicrackmon's side, offering a claw to help her up despite the fact he was rather small compared to her.
"Nah I agree, this is most likely a trap." Carlos said, giving Coolmon a quick glance. "If we are chasing after them we should do it together as a group. Harder to get the jump on eleven people."
