"Like we can afford to split up as it is?"
Giving a small shrug in Coolmon's direction, the Datamon managed a metallic sigh before returning his attention to the front. Trap or not, this was the only lead that the group had - and with Holly's brief trip-and-face-plant into the sand, their chase was only slightly delayed, enough to at least follow the Antylamon's recent footsteps dug into the sand.
"Trust me, I'm with you on this, Carlos. If this Antylamon was just trying to lead us, why was it so keen on getting out of sight?" In that regard, why did it show up at all? The Wizardmon led the chase, trying to keep his focus up to keep track of any data signals out in the darkness. However, it wouldn't be any of them that would break the silence, but the sound of a 'click' and the whistle of something in the open air that would break the silence.
"Tch!"
Dang it, there was a hostile resistance! The Deputymon was struck in his arm, a metallic clang heard as he skidded back several feet, the fallen crossbow bolt quickly turning to trash data as it stuck into the sand. The culprit was soon lit up by the Wizardmon's staff, a short distance out to their left.
Pajiramon, of all things? This was the second ultimate, and without a word, the Pajiramon gave his second attack: aiming that bow towards the air above them, a fiery, sparking bolt was sent skyward over the group, shattering out into a myriad of flaming bolts to rain down over their position.
A potshot, maybe, but there was little time to be concerned with it now!
Pajiramon uses 'Treasure Rain'!

The whistling of the crossbow bolt set the Wizardmon immediately on edge as their head swiveled trying to pick up their opponent. Holding bright staves of light as they were even those of them that could see in the dark were nothing more then glowing well-lit targets as the bolt rammed into the Deputymon sending him flying. Leaving the other Wizardmon to finally reveal their attacker right as the Pajiramon raised their crossbow for another shot.
"Get Down!" Cross roared out hands aglow as she triggered one of her cards throwing her arms wide as a barrier of light formed over the small party. Not enough to stop the attack entirely, but enough to soften the damage and hopefully give the others a chance to retaliate as the attack crashed down upon them. One bolt cutting open the female Wizardmon's cheek and peppering their already ragged cloak with further holes as Cross hissed in pain.
Cross uses DA-12 Card Name: Taomon Type: Digimon Rank: Gold Duration: 1 Post Talisman Spell: The target Digimon summons a barrier of light. Damage from Ultimate attacks is heavily reduced, and damage from Mega attacks is reduced to a minor extent as well.

Well, the time for idle conversation had somewhat passed as the group gave chase to that lone Antylamon. Aya and Coolmon skidded to a stop as Moeru got knocked aside, before a Pajiramon was not only revealed but let loose a second attack. Aya had drawn a card but Cross beat her to the punch. ...Literally the same card she was going to use, too. New plan. Aya clutched her D-Arc, getting down to avoid any stray fire before she held it out as a shining light enveloped Coolmon, who was not only none worse for the wear (Cross saved her from that) but now going straight for the freaky armed goat creature. In no time at all, the Cutemon was replaced by an Antylamon, who's hands extended towards the Pajiramon before... She literally fired electricity from her fingers. Or, what looked like electric bolts, at the very least. "So, what could this pair of characters have to do with our lead? And why are they shooting faster than you can say pissed off Mamemon?!" Aya inquired, looking through her cards to see what could be of use in the imminent few moments. Taomon, LadyDevimon, Zudomon...This wasn't easy. She should've anticipated that, in all honesty.
Relevant Passives: Killer Queen: Every round of combat that passes grants Antylamon a stack of this. See, every stack gives her a 10% increase in speed and power. The stacks max out at three, capping at a 30 percent increase in power during a prolonged battle. 0/3
Qi Manipulation: Antylamon can manipulate the data within it’s body so it can move flexibly, or take blows as if it were made of iron. 10% speed increase, 10% defense increase.
Coolmon digivolves to Antylamon and fires...Uh. Fingerguns [RAM Upgrade]: Antylamon points her arms forward and fires a salvo of energy bullets towards an enemy. They're electrical in appearance, but otherwise don't really lean anywhere in terms of what element they'd fall under. One post cooldown. Yeah. Also, Aya and Coolmon are unharmed thanks to Cross' efforts! Cooldowns: Fingerguns: 0/1

It was nice that her uncle was kind enough to try to help her up, but thankfully she didn't realy need it as she had that staff in her hands. So she just used that to stand up instead grumbling to herself. With so many people sort of registering this fact well there wasn't much else they could do but spring this trap! "If it's a trap then we're at least on the ball..."Shortly after they'd move to follow after the Antylamon. The wizardmon made a good point and holly furrowed her brow as that bolt sped on by to hit the Deputymon, she'd turn her head a little bit to see him skid back. A crossbow bolt? Holly's eyes flicked to where there was movement. How did they see them so well when they needed the light? Were they acclimated to the darkness? Two ultimates so far, both of them were Deva types. She wasn't sure exactly what they were going to deal with, but if it followed suit and the course laid out well. Perhaps they'd run into more Deva types? The flaming bolts that rained down on them were covered well by Cross. The few bolts that made their way towards her were calmly assessed. She'd huff in pain as a pair of bolts hit her, one in her arm and one landing admist all her fluff on her chest. While it didn't damage her, the flames had to be patted down quickly lest her fur was set ablaze. "Is talking not a thing we can do with these?"She'd mumble and plant the 'staff' she was carrying into the ground. She'd press her hands together palms first and a moment later three clones popped out of no where with a small crack much like the displacement of air. The three Clones looked between one another and took a 'ready' stance. "Advanced variant clones. Lets try Lightning Cross two..."The meicrackmon gesture and the clones with her would start running forward. If they were lucky the sheep ram thing would stick to attacking long range. If not she bet that her friends had some own things to bite with while it focused on the melee orientated meicrackmon. Log: -Holly took light damage. -Her regen should handle it just fine. -Holly patted out her fur to stop any chance of her lighting on fire. -Holly summoned Quasi|Advanced Combat variant before charging forward. Passive: Regeneration III: Every post rotation this digimon heals a light amount of damage. If afflicted by a status effect this regeneration stalls out until that effect is over with. Any healing ability that is used on her stalls out this regeneration effect as well.
Beast Dance|Inherited Move[RAM UPGRADE]: This digimon moves at unreasonable speeds; faster than it's cousins by a large margin this digimon is also largely frailer than it's cousins.
Move: Quasi|Advanced Combat Variant: Holly can create three clones of herself that can mimic her movements almost perfectly. They can move around and physically interact with things. They are capable of using any ability that she is except for other Quasi and once per thread abilities. Save for the fact that they are at 1/3 the strength that Holly's attacks would be. They only last for two posts and if they use an attack they vanish on the post that they would of used it on. At the end of those two posts these Quasi vanish. Three post cool down. The Advanced Variant cannot be used during other Quasi Variants active periods or cool down periods.

As startling as it was to see Deputymon skidding back after being struck by a crossbow volt, it was hardly surprising. What else were they expecting stumbling around in a dark, barely explored territory?
"Called it."
There was not enough time for Carlos to enjoy his accurate (if obvious) predictive abilities, as soon as the light iluminated the Pajiramon responsible for the attack, the Deva began raining down more fiery projectiles on top of the group. Of course they had a clear shot at them to do that, they were the only living beings in the near vecinity standing near a light source. For anyone skulking in the darkness that alone was just as good as a neon sign pointing at them.
In a burst of light Dio's small frame had grown rather significantly, the glowing red eyed demon now towering a good couple feet over even Holly, and quickly grabbed the blackguilmon by the tail close to him and his partner, before the NeoDevimon used large body to shield the two of them from the stray volts that Cross' shield wasn't able to stop. Luckily, her quick thinking protected the tall demon from taking any serious damage.
Once that was dealt with? The demon lunged ahead, following the other two ultimates as they charged, a fiery beam of concentrated energy shooting out of his eyes in the direction of the sheep like digimon.
As for Dio's brother all this sudden movements had taken him by surprise, so much so that by the time the light of digivolution enveloped him the other three were already attacking the Pajiramon.
"Gio, you stay back! We don't know where that Antilamon went." Carlos ordered, firmly planting his own staff of light on the ground as he reached for his D-Arc. The Black Wargrowlmon looked on as his brother charged ahead, but soon turned to Carlos and gave a single nod, standing tall over the humans in a battle ready position, waiting to see how the battle unfolded, waiting for the perfect moment to make his move.
Dio digivolves into NeoDevimon and fires a Red Ray at Pajiramon. Gio digivolves and stays behind to cover the backline.
Red Ray: Fires a long ranged (100ft) red energy beam from his visor. This attack is not particularly powerful damage wise, but can easily pierce through armor of its same level and below. Three posts cooldown.

"Thanks for the cover!"
Shoot, but why was this happening now? With the group's attention drawn to the Pajiramon, the Taomon's shield largely nullifying those falling arrows, the Deputymon had enough time to get back up on his feet and adjust his hat into place. The ram Digimon itself grit its teeth, raising its left arm to fling those energy bullets off to the side with its shield before being struck by the Red Ray through that same shield.
It gave a grimace of pain, and kicked back off towards the darkness - enough to leave Holly's clones unable to even see where their possible attacker was. In fact, without a staff, no-one else could see the clones out there, either.
"... Huh."
"Hey, is this really a time to sound so relaxed, Datamon?" Moeru's eyes scanned the surrounding area, the Datamon holding the gun at the ready, as the Datamon shook his head. "No, think about it. A couple pot-shots and a wide-area attack against a group of prepared Digimon? Does it think its going to get any ground fighting one-on-six?"
"What about the Antylamon?"
"Actually..." The Wizardmon blinked, calming his grip. "I can't sense either of their data signals now. And the first one didn't attack us either, right?"
So... why were they attacked at all?

"There was a tactic I've heard of..." Cross murmured voicing her thoughts into the silence that surrounded them as they straightened up once more. Pausing in their musing to dust a bit of dirt and ash from their shoulders before staring out into the darkness with narrowed crimson eyes.
"Tamers can get access to this object known as a D-pet if I recall. Digimon stored within them cannot be easily sensed though the same could be said of Digimon tied to a General. The tactic in question was to store powerful digimon inside the D-pet or digivice to prevent them from being sensed and thus allowing an opponent to sneak up on their target without them aware before releasing them. Digimon don't disappear into thin air naturally." She explained, not bothering to mention that the tactic in question was in fact one of her own.
"So rather then try to sense a Digimon's obvious digital signal..." The Wizardmon trailed off scenting the air as they strained their ears for any noise, any sign, "We should be looking for a human."

"I'd ask if the D-Pet worked instantaneously, but if we're operating on the assumption that a human's involved, it seems like it's fast enough to pick up those two. So, adding on to that...There might be more than one human." Aya added, rising up with some cards still in hand.
"I've got a Taomon card ready in case we come under more fire, but I'm willing to move up and help look for any humans if you guys are." And with that, if everyone was on board, Aya and Coolmon would proceed forward, the latter very literally sniffing about for a human's signal.
"It should go without saying that we should also be on guard." The Antylamon uttered. Who knows when they were going to get peppered with crossbow bolts from some weird sheeptaur again?

Holly wasn't quick enough to engage in close quarters combat it seemed. Her clones let out frustrated sounds of their own and the meicrackmon crossed her arms. The clones would of course simply be dismissed there was no point in keeping them as they would vanish shortly. "So a test of some kind huh? Or just seeing how we would react?"Holly quirked her brow and just pulled up her staff again, biting at her lower lip. Maybe next time she'd keep the staff with her. But for now there wasn't much to really do other than keep her eye out for things. Her ear flicked and she'd turn her head as Cross spoke about something called a D-pet? She had never heard of that but she wouldn't be surprised if there was someone around with some kind of nightvision. "A human? Out in the middle of the dark here? They've gotta have some way of getting around in this then..."Holly pursed her lips and sort of lazily flicked her tail. There wasn't much more to do than just move on right? Looking around would probably just mess with them further but... Well she'd follow the group's lead. She really didn't want to go off on her own. "What other tools could they implement to make this difficult? Do you think they have cards or other tricks up their sleeves?"She'd voice her concerns, holding the staff over one shoulder. The light was kind of hard for her to look at directly so it'd be best if she just didn't. She had to wonder how long it'd be before they ran into another digimon... "Is there a theme other than the fact they're Deva types?" Log: -Holly dismissed her clones PassiveRegeneration III: Every post rotation this digimon heals a light amount of damage. Much to nobody's surprise, once the sheep found itself under fire by almost the entire group it decided to retreat immediatelly into the darkness...but what was surprising was that neither of the digimons could even attempt to guess where it had gone to. They couldn't feel their presence nor energy signature, not even their smell. Almost as if they had banished into thin air.
Dio skidded to a stop, halting his attempted lunge just before he got out of the light, letting out a disgruntled sigh of frustration. Ah well, at least his attack had hit it's mark. Carlos however, seemed a bit relieved, if only momentarily. "Either that or they were just trying to drive us away." Carlos said while glancing at Holly, as he once again uprooted the glowing staff.
"...or lure us in even more." Dio shrugged, slowly making his way back into the circle of light and next to his brother and Carlos. That said he quirked an eyebrow at Cross' theory. An oposing tamer? That was as worrying as it was plausible, really.
"Well, if we are dealing with humans, doubt they're too far, if I learned anything is digivices don't exactly have amazing range." Carlos added with a knowing sigh. He wasn't lying either, not knowing that had almost cost him his life...as well as a good chunk of his stomach. Not the most fun experience.
"But...if it's a tamer then we should be ok, right? They can't have that many partners to throw at us."

Interesting - this could have been the work of another human? Cross's reasoning was fairly strong, but it was a bit concerning to the Datamon how quickly everyone jumped onto this assumption.
"Does it matter if its a D-Pet or some other kind of technique?" After a few moments of thought, the mechanical Digimon just shook his head, looking to the MeiCrackmon. "We can't really concern ourselves with every card under the sun. I don't know if there's a theme, but a Pajiramon isn't ordinarily native to the Dark Area."
"... Let's take a step back," Wizardmon cut in. "I hate to say it, but the lot of us are sitting ducks out here in the open like this. If their intent was to simply draw us into a fight, they would've already had more than enough time to figure out how to get at us. And if they were simply trying to ward us off, surely they would have responded 'louder' than this."
"... Tch. Ain't that a lot to gamble on?"
"You know there's more to it than that." The Wizardmon's words were oddly conclusive, as if trying to edge away from his thoughts on the situation. But given the circumstances that this mission was set up, and considering everything that happened up through now, something was off-base. But for now, all they could do was proceed through the darkness. Thankfully, there were no other surprise attacks along the way, not from the Pajiramon nor any other Digimon. As they came closer to the coordinates, the group would see an orange glow pierce through the darkness, a thick trail of smoke carrying up into the air.
Torchlight - with a rather thick scent, to boot. "Interesting - whatever they're using, its intentionally giving off a large amount of smoke so that the light doesn't carry out to the rest of the desert."
"Hm... yup, that's about where the coordinates were..." Datamon idly buzzed as Wizardmon gave his analysis. And as they would approach a bit closer, well, there wouldn't be much question to the theme.
A Mihiramon standing watch near the front end. A Sandiramon with a Makuramon idly sitting on its head, listening to the report with the Pajiramon from before. Beyond them were a number of tents, burnt out fires from destroying debris, and much more from what one would expect from a camp. Despite the Pajiramon's injury, there didn't seem to be much of a sense of urgency with this group, either:
"If they knew we were coming," the sorcerer whispered, "wouldn't they put out the torches, at least?"
For the moment, at least, the group had the initiative.

The Female Wizardmon paused staring at the carnage that was the camp before them and the large amount of digimon within it. A small frown tugging at her lips behind the concealment of her scarf. Things were not adding up and with swift deftness the mage doused their own light lest they be spotted and picked off at a distance. Their own eyes much more well acquainted with darkness then their fellows.
"Perhaps they're after the same thing we are. Though I'm not certain we'll learn more at this distance. Anyone here particularly skilled in stealth that might be able to sneak in and listen in on their conversation?" Cross questioned turning to the rest of her group in support. Worse came to worse she could sneak in, but she would be on a time limit if she did so and she didn't much favor her chances. Best to have someone else more capable in such things go in.

Aya paused as soon as Cross and the others did. Coolmon crouched low to avoid being seen, and gave a glance to the group before craning her head to what she was seeing. "Hm...If stealth is the option we're looking to peruse..." Aya saw fit to cut her off then and there. "I think Holly should do it. Not to...be generalizing or anything but from what I know, Meicrackmon are renowned hunters in their own right, so maybe she could send a clone up to try getting a good bit of what they're saying down?"
It was a rather hastily thought out suggestion, and one that came as Aya was ducking behind Coolmon. Perhaps she wouldn't be seen by the other group if she hid here. "...Any other suggestions?" She inquired.

It didn't take them long to find at least one of their attackers again, standing in a recently destroyed camp of some sort. Bad news it was they weren't alone anymore, the sheep Deva being with at least three more of their kind. Hardly surprising really, who would attack a large group on their lonesome without having some sort of backup? But the important thing right now was that this time, the group had a chance to take the first shot.
As they crouched in darkness, laying as low as they could to avoid being seen, the trio turned to glance at the rest of the group, expecting some sort of plan of action. While both twins were more than ready to take this chance for a surprise attack it seemed as though Cross wanted to go for a subtler approach. Carlos shook his head however at her question.
"Dio doesn't really have anything to aid him with stealth in this form at least, and..." He'd glance at Gio for a moment, then back at the group, "...I don't think I need to tell any of you why expecting a fifteen feet tall, cybernetically enhanced dragon to sneak into an enemy camp is a poor idea."
Even if he had been able to literally turn invisible it was probably too much to ask for Gio to be delicate enough to not make a sound.
Aya had someone else in mind however: Holly. Generalizing or not, Dio could certainly bouch for Meicrackmon's knack for stealth, having been on the receiving end of it before. Though he certainly wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea of sending his niece out on her own like that, as the piercing glare he gave to both Aya and Carlos made abundantly clear. Why both? Easy, Aya for suggesting it, and Carlos for considering it.
"Sorry Holly, I think your our best shot at this." The man said with a sigh after some moments of silent consideration, a hint of guilt in his tone.

Holly's ears flicked as their uncles addressed the current situation. That if they were a tamer that they couldn't have that many partners to throw at them. Holly closed her eyes a little bit and exhaled slowly.
"It's quite possible that the guy is a Xros General, or that he has a plethora of mercs or allies. Who's to say that it's even one guy out here? Which means we have to be more careful. But if that's the case yes we shouldn't concern ourselves with everything just be ready for anything how's that sound?"
Holly turned her head to the wizardmon, her ears flicking a bit as they addressed the fact that they were sitting ducks as well as having to address the fact that they hadn't been attacked by a larger force. Meaning that something was up. Holly gritted her teeth and they'd have to move on.
The thick trail of smoke was the first thing that holly smelled, it was gross and she'd bring a hand up to pinch her nose with a disgusted snort. She hated that smell in particular; cooking smoke and the like she didn't so much mind... but did this smell like cooking fire?
The meicrackmon found herself gritting her teeth and stifling a hiss as there was easily identifiable a Mihiramon, a sandiramon and a makuramon all seemingly standing near the edge with the Pajiramon from earlier. Was the antylamon from earlier here as well? Holly's ears flicked a bit as she heard cross ask about stealth. She wanted to say something but found those words stuck in her throat.
Then coolmon asked about her doing it, quoting that her kind were renowned hunters. Holly laid her staff down with an honest to god sigh. She knew what was coming next and just sort of started to stretch. Sovereigns above it was hard to even speak about this at the moment. Further still her uncle addressed the fact that Gio and Dio were not good at this sort of thing. The human didn't even have to say it; he really didn't. But the meicrackmon felt her core's pulse quicken a bit and she'd exhale slowly.
"I'll be back."
The stretching finished the meicrackmon would practically vanish on the spot. Her natural speed was far better than others of her kind and her training let her find the edges and shadows where others wouldn't see. Her first step would to be to get close enough to overhear what was going on from the external guards then it'd be a matter of dealing with the torches, looking for openings and seeing where she could slide in. Once she was inside? Well she'd hopefully be able to find out what was going on and who was around.
Further still she could also find out if this was a trap.
