"I can give you... eh... Hundred bits for the lot."
"But last week Salesman said was two hundred! Nokk worked very hard for these fish."
"Problem be I've already got a bunch from the fishing boat this morning. Sorry."
Nokk blinked a little bit and looked down at the bag of what amounted of her catch. It was only about thirty or so fish, none of them crazy or out of style. Nokk let out a firm sigh and shook her head, she had her eye on something that would make her little home a little bit more managable but with that price drop... Well it'd make it a bit more difficult for her. She'd scoop up her bag with a firm shake of her head.
"Nokk will just take fish home then. Maybe next time?"
"Well if you catch me in a dry spell so to speak..."
The vendor shook it's metal head and turned about, Nokk didn't know exactly what type of mon it was. All robotic and half of it looked like it was shot to pieces but it was one of the few vendors that didn't scream in fear when she approached them. Shrugging her large shoulders the Ocean type digi turned about, loping down the street easily passing many of the tourists that either avoided her or gawked at the large sea digimon.
"Maybe Nokk try different port. Fish still good for whole day of sales... Nokk thinks."
Nokk let out an explosive burst of breath from her jowls and simply gave another shake of the head. She'd ease onto some metal bars separating her from the beach proper and frowned lightly. Lately not just here, her fish hadn't been selling very well. It was like many places were getting an influx of business. Not that she minded them doing well it just... sort of shot her way of keeping things constant in her home in the tush. She'd have to start doing other forms of work if she wanted to get by.
"What was that about a guild or something... Nokk doesn't remember..."
Of course the paper that she had about the subject had long since rotted away. It had after all been a long time since anyone gave her any information regarding that group and she wasn't sure if they were around at all!

Starting from scratch? Starting from scratch.
As that aggravating thought once more perked up in the Floramon's head, Bell couldn't help but give an audible sigh. That's just how it was for the past few years now: Bell would start up a small greenhouse, get a few projects going, finally get discovered for who she was, and have to abandon it and start all over again. Sure, she managed to leave off a bit of a project with Cassandra, but what good was relying on a greenhouse confined to a single underground room?
No, she really needed a way to spread her wings - and with a fresh lot out in the Cipher Jungle, away from prying eyes, maybe she'd manage just that. But now she really needed to stay under the radar. Heck, it was getting to the point that any Floramon trying to get gardening supplies was being carded at least once or twice!
This is what brought Bell out to the open market instead. Out here, in the nice, open, clear air, Bell was just another Floramon in the crowd, with a scant 2,200 bits to her name - 800 of it already spent and in a sack slung over her shoulder. As she turned down the next block of the market, she caught the scent of something, recoiling slightly at the stench.
Ugh. Fish - cheap, open air, uncut fish. It was something that a Floramon would never mess with on a regular basis, but unfortunately for her, this fit the bill quite well: something that would rot and charge otherwise nonviable soil into something that she could work with. So she steeled herself, wiping that look of disgust out of her face as she approached the, well, equally-unapproachable-fish-Digimon.
"Um, excuse me..." The plant Digimon gave a nervous chuckle, tone quickly settling on that of a touristy-merchant. "What kind of catch you have here?"

Nokk caught herself staring at the ocean waves as they crashed onto the beach, an earnest sigh rolling out of her mouth and she'd simply shake her head. What was she to do with this honestly? It was quite a conundrum for her! Pearl catching was never quite her thing and hunting large digimon that were posing a problem in the waters never quite sat right with her. It always made her eye itch, the eye that was gone rather. She'd scratch at the offending location, gingerly clicking against that bone eyepatch.
At the sound of someone talking at her Nokk turned her head quickly, ears perking up a bit and her sole eye locking onto the plant digimon. A floramon of all things! Nokk leaned to inspect her, turning her head slightly so she could get a better look at them. She didn't recognize them in the slightest, but then again Nokk didn't really know all who lived here. Probably one of those types to stay indoors...
"Yes? Plant-mon want something?"
Then of course they asked about her catch, Nokk blinked dubiously for a moment and then of course took the bag off of her shoulder, opening it easily with just a simple tug of the string that was around the bag's neck. Just simple fair, nothing fantastic. It hadn't been treated or cut, some of them had obvious claw marks and others were bitten in some locations. A testament to the fishers ability to go after small schools of fish.
"Just small batch of fish, Salesmon didn't want it at Nokk's price so Nokk decided she'd be better off trying another salesmon. Maybe down the beach or something. Worse come to worse Nokk have dinner yes? Why is Plant mon interested in some fish?"
Nokk tilted her head a bit, that tone shift she wasn't super sure about but they were being friendly to her. Not screaming or running off. In fact they had approach her! Which of course made Nokk smile like a buffoon...

'Plant-mon'?
Oh, it had been a while since Bell had heard herself referred to so casually! The scientist gave a small, nervous chuckle as she asked her question in response - and instead of having it explained, Nokk instead opened that bag of putrid fish right in front of her eyes. It was, as expected, untreated: no cuts, no care, simply a bag of fish collected and piled together. It was honestly a same - some of the catch here actually wasn't that bad. Even a simple cut and the use of a stock freezer might have made the entire lot sell for at least 10,000 to an upscale diner in Whitewater.
But like this? The quality of the fish now was literally less than the guts inside of them, which was all Bell really needed. Hearing Nokk's question, the Floramon gave a shrug: "It's not so much the fish - actually, it is, but its everything except the meat. I'm testing working on new kinds of soil, and need material to compost."
Compost - like break down, not even eat. Would that sit well with the water type tending to the shop?
"So... how much?"

Honestly what was nokk supposed to do? She didn't have any tools, any real knives. This catch was all of her own effort, all of her own hands grasping at these fish as they desperately tried to outrun her. The large digimon shifted and tilted it's head, the sole eye of the mon peaking open as the other seemed to look over them.
"Use for soil? Oh! Plant-mon is a gardener? Nokk likes plants. They always help Nokk out underwater. Nokk can return favor then!"
Nokk chuckled a little bit and shifted, she didn't mind what the other wanted to do with the fish. After all once she had purchased them well... it wasn't like they were going to be her fish anymore! The seawraithmon flicked one of it's ears and peered at the bag.
"Nokk wanted 200 bits from fisher but he wanted them for 100. Nokk would love if plant-mon bought them from her for 200. Nokk worked very hard for these fish."
Nokk offered the bag to Bell, there was a long pause and the water type mulled it over for a moment. Flicking her ears to and fro... and before long her head tilted one way to the next.
"...Does... Plant mon need more fish in future? Could catch better fish for better compost."

"Yup, I'm a gardener! And I'm glad to hear it - maybe I can do something to help the seaweed a little down the road."
Bell kept it simple, giving a smile as Nokk shuffled a bit around for the fish. By keeping it friendly, Bell was trying to keep the deal as good as she could. With only 2200 bits to her name, she really had to keep it thin - if she could somehow get away with this lot for less than a thousand, she'd be grateful.
Which was why she felt her eye twitch when Nokk said 200 bits. And that was if she could afford it. Bell almost collapsed right there, but she kept her composure, briefly tempted to try and barter with Nokk... only to decide against it. No need to try and agitate the tall shark-looking Digimon with the sharp looking teeth.
"... Sure, I can do 200." She gave a smile, kept a professional tone, and pulled out two clean bills for 100 bits each, carefully handing them over to the aquatic Digimon. As for that next bit, though, the Floramon tilted her head.
"It depends - treating the same soil with the same thing over and over usually just ends up making the soil not as good. Though if this works out well, I'll certainly be an occasional customer?"

"The seaweed would like that Nokk would think! Some days they aren't as lively as others. The city dwellers forget that their trash hurts the seaweed!"
There was an edge of sadness in the tall shark like digimon's voice and there was a small shake of the head following suit. Nokk didn't seem to note the eye twitch as she had looked away from the other to give a soft wave to one of the passing guards who just sort of returned it with a lazy hand gesture.
"Great! Nokk worked hard to get these. Pretty plant won't regret this!"
The SeaWraithmon grinned ear to ear, passing the bag to the other mon the moment she had her bills in hand. Though she'd absorb the data from those bills as she couldn't really keep physical cash on her underwater! Nokk hummed a little bit and considered something for a moment...
"Well nokk will see if she can maybe keep some fish on hand for plant mon! Nokk doesn't always have to kill fish right away and can let them swim around in her home. Nokk does it to the ones that she thinks is pretty anyways!"
It wasn't a lie of course, nokk had quite a collection of baubles and fish. In fact she had probably another bag full of them at home if Bell wanted some more...
