She could feel it tearing through her, the pain of that fight. She could feel it burning deep into her body and curl around her core. She could feel the cackling laughter of her failure and her burning passion to make rights wrongs. But there wasn't anything she could do here, there wasn't anything she would do either. All she could do was lay against her daughter as she was carried to the medical wing of vander tower.
She felt light headed, her breath coming out in short pained bursts. The smoking wounds of her use of digital hazard mixed with Daemon's own onslaught had withered her form greatly. Here or there deep contusions could be seen as her data struggled to maintain proper density. Others it looked as though she was perfectly healthy, pristine even. By some grace of her cloak perhaps, or maybe her form had just avoided damage in those locales all together. Who was to say?
She felt her head hit the pillow of one of the medical beds, she could feel herself slipping a little bit and her one good arm came up. Albeit it rather slowly to her head, she could feel the world spinning and it was making her nauseous. She could hear people talk and it was hard to make them out. Her eye drifted and locked onto her daughter, onto her husband. Onto the butler who was hurriedly darting around picking out equipment, tools and medicine from the various places. He had already set out quite a bit but seemed to be in a rush.
Some of the stuff danced through the air, his practiced ease with those wires of his making this even crazier to those that didn't know of him. She'd manage out a questioning tone but it fell flat as it was painful to even breathe in some points.
She really went too far in this fight didn't she...?

Mikemon and K's involvement in that fight against Daemon was over, and what followed was a measure of organized chaos. The doctor, though hurt, was not so far gone that he couldn't tend to K's injuries, and after using a flash heal on his chest, he set to work on the Renamon.
There was no diagnosis to be made here. K was battle-injured, worn down and beaten, and with Syre dismissed from the room, the cat spared no thought in fixing the surface damage. He re-set the bone, he corrected the parts of her data that were in phase, and managed to 'put her back together' over the next hour or so. Though, honestly, the Renamon likely wouldn't remember much of it, simply weakly slipping in and out of consciousness, her body trying to catch up with itself.
When he was done, the cat almost fell onto the table himself, before simply collapsing on a chair at the side of the room. At last, this seemed to be behind them... "K? Hello?"
Several hours later - late next morning, in fact - the doctor found himself next to K's bed, very gently nudging her 'better' shoulder, a smile on his face. The fox would still be sore, of course, but no longer feeling the worst of it. A stiff bandage kept her damaged arm still, and though everything wasn't exactly 'right', well, it was probably within reason.
"Take it slow. Don't sit up too fast - you've been out for a while. Last thing we need is for you to hurt yourself with a fall..."

She didn't remember really anything of mikemon's treatment of her. She had watched him work numbly, Garlond had fretted over her. Pacing to and fro at some point before leaving as he wasn't needed. Even oathgard leaned in to look at some point.
Her eye watched syre go; her eye slowly blinking. She could feel herself lost into the bliss of unconsciousness time and time again. Each time she came back her body felt better, at least externally but something somewhere else hurt. It hurt beyond words. She could feel the crackling and the laughter again and again. She'd droop into a final unconsciousness that lasted for several hours...
"Nnngh..."
K stirred finally at feeling the nudging sensation on her shoulder. She felt her entire body was sore, there were parts that felt like they were on fire and there was a booming thunder in her chest that made her feel like she was inhaling needles. But it was on the up and up. It was so much better and there wasn't that much pain in comparison to earlier. Her eyes slid to her husband and she'd slowly sit up, setting her good arm on the medical bed.
"Mm... Did that already with the portal... I... How long has it been...?"
The renamon would bring her hand to her head, exhaling slowly. She could feel her body easily, she could feel that pulsing, the wireframe, everything. Something felt off, she was too sensitive. What was going on? She'd try to steady her breathing before turning her attention back to her husband. Her motions only reaching her head a few seconds after she did them, like she was swimming. There was this odd funny sensation in her arm, like it couldn't move. She'd have to look down to find that it was binded to disallow movement...
"T-tch... how bad... was it?"

"Guess you have a point there... um, nine, ten hours?"
Watching K get herself up, assisting where he could, the doctor gave a small nod as the fox regained her balance. Her expression was within expectations: put through the ringer and then having gone through such a rigorous healing process, no-one was going to feel quite alright. Still, the cat's eyes did catch onto a few issues. Labored breathing, dizziness, fatigue... but she was at least aware of her surroundings, of her conditions.
How bad was it?
"Slightly worse than when you were being put back together after the fight with Wisemon, but not as bad as when you were being put back together after the D-Reaper incident." Right, like any of those were fair points of comparison. But, then again, the cat wasn't done covering his bases: "Sorry to put this on you right now, but I should probably get to the follow-up. Scan your data, iron out the noise, make sure that nothing's cracking underneath the surface."
It was routine to him at this point. As he reached for his crystal, the cat asked: "Anything feel strange to you, at all?" At this point, all he was doing was just asking the normal questions.

"A good amount of rest normally..."
Why did it hurt so much even though he had already tended to her? This was the sort of pain that was mind numbing, she'd place her hand on her chest. Gripping it lightly, it still hurt to breathe, it still was hard to concentrate. Of course she'd be fatigued as she had just spent a great deal of energy but she should of already produced enough to somewhat catch up...
Shouldn't she of?
Then he explained how it was worse than when they put her back together after the wisemon fight. But not as bad as the D-reaper incident. If it had been that bad she wouldn't of been sitting here talking about it, she would of been screaming in pain. Writhing, digivolving rapidly, her form tearing itself apart... She'd bite her lower lip and nod slowly.
"G...good. That's... a fair comparison. I don't feel anything like when the D-reaper incident occured..."
She'd close her eyes and exhale slowly. The cat wanted to do a follow up on her? So soon after treating her? She'd slowly nod, giving him a somewhat amused look.
"Just like old times isn't it... me in your office, you treating me. Though this is a little more serious than some of those visits heh..."
K paused when he asked about anything strange. The renamon would close her eyes, feeling out her body. There was energy misfiring all over the place, her core felt strange and the wireframe felt heavy. She could distinctly feel her chest and how much it hurt to breathe.
"Some... misfiring of my energy... my core feels strange and... my wireframe feels heavy. I... it hurts to breathe quite a bit."
She had this impending feeling of something terrible. Most of the time she could feel silence somewhere in her but the enhanced shutmon's presence was strangely absent. Perhaps it was just because the fight had tired them out too...

"Yes, well, 'normally' doesn't usually involve your dragon form getting blasted apart. Now, take it easy, there..."
Mikemon's tone flickered between his brutally honest professionalism and a tenderness towards a dear patient, the cat smiling a bit to soften the bite that he had in his tone. K looked like shit, yes, but who wouldn't after all that? Drawing that crystal into his hand, he'd return a chuckle to that amused look. "Oh, c'mon, this is just field medic work. I don't even have to break into a prison for this."
Ah, good ol' times! The cat's ear flicked as K mentioned the misfires as well as her frame feeling heavy. The cat gave a nod: "I see a lot of that with the Digital Hazard card. The body pushes itself beyond what its supposed to do - which strains your muscles past their intended limit. The result is a lot of dead weight in your limbs, which makes the user sometimes feel 'heavier' afterwards. As for the misfiring - well, its the same deal, except with your data structure. Couple that with damage already impacting your wireframe and things aren't going to feel perfect."
He could explain it all. But: "Of course, this is why we do the data scan - to make sure its just that. Just relax for a minute, alright?"
The cat gave a nod, his attention turning to that red crystal - deeply focusing into it, as he once more deeply peered into the Renamon's data structure.

"It can take one hell of a beating... but you're right on that part hah..."
She'd let out a smooth chuckle, which led into her degrading down into a coughing fit. Thumping her chest with her good arm with a grimace. She'd manage a small smile and just give him a nod. Of course at that joke she couldn't help but grin; yes that definitely was something. Them breaking into a prison to steal a core to fix her with. It had worked wonderfully even if it had been before their intended time.
"I'll have to be more careful with that card then tch..."
K shook her head a little bit and slowly laid herself back down. It'd be easier for the both of them if she stayed still and if she drifted off while he was looking into her well.. All the better. She still felt exhausted as it sat and there wasn't much she could do as it was.
"All right dear... don't you fret."
Within the structure the mikemon would find of course the traces of damage from the fight. The harsh effects of that card which was burned into some of her frame, slowly healing naturally...
The misfires were in the places the wireframe didn't quite meet up, which would be natural of course. It was a durable sort of thing and daemon's own power was more than enough to cause some breakage. Given time it'd heal back and if it was treated more it'd be easy to fix.
But the true problem didn't lay with her frame or with her outermost data.
It lay within her blackened core, soft blue motes of light here or there firing off the little bits of energy they could to try to stabilize themselves. There were cracks forming here or there and there was a deep powerful grating split that ran the entire length, barely held together by a few of those motes.
Deeper still?
The iteration of silence was pacing in front of the core, tending to something. At feeling the cat's presence she'd look up, making eye contact and slowly shaking her head as to say something was quite wrong with all of this. Her form didn't even look that good, she was missing some armor and her stereotypical visor. Every so often she'd even flicker as though glitching out...

"Heh... eager to get right back on it, aren't ya."
The cat smirked, giving an exaggerated sigh as K lied back, as if to say 'what am I supposed to do with you' in a friendly manner. Mikemon wasn't worried, he was simply going through the steps, his expression fading as it always had when he peered deep into the Renamon's data. Though, what he saw inside made him question a heck of a lot more.
He wasn't interested in the surface level. Of course she was damaged, of course the wire-frame was frayed and misfiring - he'd seen thousands of data structures and knew what was normal for a Digimon in K's position. His gaze immediately peered deeper, into the ancient data structure that made up this Renamon, fractured only once from the D-Reaper incident.
... That was, this data had only been fractured once, right? Then what was going on here?
The core was the wrong color, more akin to a virus type than the Data that Mikemon knew her to be. There was a semblance of energy ebbing around, a wispy air of blue holding it around... and that particular figure, pacing around the core. Familiar but unfamiliar, her own stature shaking her head, trying to communicate the problem.
The doctor looked deeper still.
Something was wrong, an itch beginning to form at the back of the cat's head as the pieces fit: the state of this core was not recent, not at least as recent as today. There was nothing about the fight against Daemon that would have made her core turn black or threaten her attribute. If that was the case, then when? When did it...
... It clicked.
For at least ten minutes longer, Mikemon peered deep into the fox's data. This was definitely a fair bit longer than the doctor typically spent on a scan - at least a half hour in total - and by the time he was done, his claw reached up to bridge his nose, the doctor refocusing his eyes to the world in front of him.
But what Mikemon did next would likely catch K's attention even more. Without a word, he stood up, moved right to the door, and closed it - a lock clicking shortly afterwards.
A moment of silence.
"... K. Before I say anything... I just want you to hear this. I love you, more than anything." His tone was somber, calm, and focused. "Whatever I say next, its coming from my sheer, honest self as a doctor." K, of course, would know what the cat was talking about - Mikemon never lied to a patient, never wasted words to make them feel better or give false hope.
... But the very fact that he was even bringing this up was a harrowing thought.

"The world's a big place Dear... of course I am... heh..."
She'd chuckle lightly and watch him get to it, she wanted to reach out. Wanted to at least hold his hand or something while he worked but she simply just gripped at the bed, she didn't mind the wait... She at least got to spend time with him even if it was as a patient.
The pacing figure wrung it's hands, staring up at the mikemon in a nervous somewhat uncertain fashion. She'd look at the core and gesture to it with an uneasy hand. There wasn't much she could say other than this was outright wrong. This shouldn't be and she was powerless to stop it. Eventually she'd stop pacing and simply took a seat, rubbing her face in a surprising amount of sadness.
The answers were clear to the mikemon but not so clear to silence who had been fighting a losing battle this whole time. She could feel the mikemon leave and she'd give him a small wave of farewell. She probably wouldn't see him again.. at least not any time soon.
K grew a touch more nervous as it proceeded she knew that these scans didn't last very long and she had to wonder just what he was doing in there. She'd perk up a bit seeing him come back and would open up her mouth...
But then he stood up, making her freeze. Watching him go to lock the door, she felt her core shift and the words caught in her mouth. She wanted to say something, anything at all but she could feel the color slowly drain from her face. That moment of silence dragging on and on and on...
"You... know I love you too Dear."
K shifted as he told her further that what he was going to say next was coming from his professional nature. Her hand gripped at the bed and she'd close her eyes. She felt dizzy, she felt nauseous suddenly. There was the cold somber dripping that she could feel deep within herself. What could her husband tell her? As a doctor what could he tell her that took this tone?
"...Tell me."

'Tell me'.
The moment those words hit Mikemon's ears, the cat felt a short chill go through his spine, the feline gritting his teeth as he pulled his thoughts together. At the very least, right now, he had to keep it together. He had to stay calm, clear, and make sure that he didn't miss a thing in his observation.
"... The issue isn't with the last fight with Daemon. That damage could be sorted out with two weeks to a month's recovery, even without my level of healing. No..." he bit his lip. "The issue is something deeper within your data. Specifically, the Wisemon."
"I saw your core. It was cracked, pitch black, and radiated an absolutely sinister viral code. Your 'inner self' is doing everything it can, but the Wisemon's data, what should be a smaller core orbiting the central one, is nowhere to be seen. Perhaps it was something the data did over time, or perhaps he took his chance when you were damaged in the fight - but its forced its way to become an integral part of your data."
He let that sink in. That was problematic by itself, of course, but where did that leave his diagnosis? "Based on the pattern, he's attempting to rend your core from the inside-out, and use your data as a means to create a new form for himself. At its pace..."
Silence filled the room.
"Two weeks. You... have two weeks to live, K."

K sat there quietly, staring at her husband as he sat there. He probably wasn't expecting her to be so blunt with it. She'd lean slightly to keep her eyes locked on him. But the initial information that she was given... it wasn't relevant with her last fight. She'd wince a little bit at that fact, she was glad that wasn't the case but... Then he brought up the sinister spell-caster that she had to deal with before. She felt her expression falter and she'd stare at him in shock.
Cracked. Pitch black...
The fact that the data had been forced to be integral to her was something she didn't know how to deal with. She'd open and close her mouth, seeming absolutely stunned by the development. She'd rub her muzzle, blinking slowly as the fact that he was trying to use her data to give himself a new form. Something she couldn't allow.
Then came the bomb drop, she felt herself grow numb. She felt the silence permeate. She sat there quietly for quite some time. Staring down at her hand. Slowly blinking before looking up at her husband.
"I have two weeks before he rends me apart to create a new form for himself. Tell me how we stop him. The how this happened and why it happened isn't important, it's the fact he could come back from all of this. We cannot allow him to roam free and I will not be used to become his next toy."
She paused for a few moment, running her hand through her fur. She seemed calm, thoughtful and her mind was racing...
"What can we do?"

Good... good, you're focused.
Mikemon could tell that K wasn't taking this perfectly. But after those few seconds of silence, his wife calmly analyzed the situation. He nodded at her analysis, as well as her request. There was an answer, but it was hardly an easy one.
"Well. We can remove the data."
Wait, was it really that simple? Was the grave tone here for nothing? By his tone, that clearly wasn't the case.
"While you're still stable, we should be able to crack through and remove the Wisemon's data directly from your system. If we do that, we can affix his data to a totem or otherwise try and bind it - perhaps I can talk to Oathgard about organizing a small crystal prison for it. Doing that, you'll be free of his grip."
The catch, though?
"... Once we do that, your core won't be able to sustain itself. We can do it any time in the next six days - but once we do, you'll only have about ten or so hours left."
In short? It would cost her eight days.

K sat there, watching her husband. When he spoke again she'd flick an ear, it couldn't be that simple. It never was that simple, she'd slowly close her eyes waiting for what he would tell her. She knew that there had to be a catch for taking out that data. Her stability wasn't in question for the next six or so days, which they could take the wisemon data straight from her system. They could affix his data to a totem... and he'd also be in a crystal prison if oathgard could get one up in luminas.
"That would be for the best, a maximum security sort would be even better honestly."
Again he continued, her core wouldn't b e able to sustain itself. They could do it in the next six days and once they did she'd have ten hours left. So all and all... She had five days to spend her time with her family. The last day for that surgery...
Then ten or so hours.
She'd stare at him quietly, losing eight days would be tremendous with this amount of time. She'd reach forward to grip at his hand, holding it tightly. Her mind made up without even any hesitation.
"We spend the time we have together. Those five days. The last for the surgery. Once that is done, I... When it happens I want you to be around. I don't want the kids to see me die. They don't need that in their minds or lives, watching their parent vanishing."
Her tone was strained and her emotion was high. but her reasoning was sound, he could not come back. Not after all of this, her eyes closed once more and she'd exhale slowly.
"I tell oathgard to get that prison set up as soon as possible, contact luminas about the core appropriation or whatever in terms of him. Once they have everything set up we can have him just... Gate of destiny over there...."
A long trailing sigh followed and she'd squeeze his hand tightly.
"...A thousand or more years, and I only found my family in the last few years of it. I was blessed by the sovereigns, gifted by the knights by this time. But i made it my own and I don't regret a moment."

"K..."
No hesitation. She understood the weight of the decision and went along with what she felt was the only option - and right now, as the calm, serious doctor, all the cat could really do was nod in agreement with her. Five days. Of the fifteen months that Mikemon had been blessed to know K, Just five days just seemed like an insultingly short amount of time.
... Who was he kidding. Fifteen months was way too short.
"We'll have Oathgard set up what's needed with Luminas. As much as possible, I would suggest that Garlond handle organizing the Knights in the near-term future, though at least some of your team will have to know that this is going to happen. As for the kids, for Holly and Syre..."
He understood K's point of view. But he shook his head at K's request.
"They don't need to be here for the last day, but they deserve to know. At the very least, they need to know your choice and what's going to happen. Otherwise, you're just going to leave them wondering why you did all this without telling them. Besides, the way Holly sneaks around, she'll figure it out anyway." He gave a small smile at that, shaking his head.
"You have nothing to regret. The world gave you both a blessing and a tremendous responsibility, and you took it all without complaint. And... honestly..."
He paused, darting his eyes away for a moment.
"... You helped me become who I am today, K. It's... it's not an exaggeration to say that you saved me from who I was, and..." He stammered, tripping over his own words, pinching the bridge of his nose. He just broke down, falling to his knees, gritting his teeth as tears rolled from his eyes.
"Sovereign... fucking... damn it..."

K managed a tired smile, it had been quite the trip hadn't it? From the moment they met, to when they started dating... To eventually when they decided to join one another as a couple. It had been something she never thought she'd have. It was so short... She wished she could of had it be longer. K closed her eyes, softly squeezing at the mikemon's hand.
"He'll do a good job with it. I'll let them know about what's going on, one way or another. It may be informal but with how spread out we are... tamernet will have to do."
K bit her lip and slowly nodded her head as the other explained that she should at least tell them what was going on. She didn't want to just up and vanish; he had the right of it with holly and syre was a smart cookie. They'd both figure it out. She'd exhale slowly and laid her head back, softly breathing out even as it felt like needles in her throat.
"I lived my life mostly without regrets. The only one I have is I didn't act sooner."
Her eyes watered and she'd watch him stammer, tripping over and breaking down in front of her. She'd ease herself up, out of the bed and would rather slowly pull him into a tight hug.
"You mean the world to me Mikemon, don't you ever forget that.... And... Don't worry I'll be back. I promise."
She felt her core twist and she'd let out an earnest cough, which devolved into a fit. She'd gasp for breathe a few times and then hug at him even tighter, she could feel those needles still, dancing in her throat and through her body.
But... Even with all that she felt herself starting that soft song her mother used to sing to her. The gentle flowing words, easing out, haggard and broken as they were. She couldn't help it, she simply just pulled it from her memory, into these words. She cradled the person she held the most dear in the entire two worlds and simply sang.
Though it wouldn't be long before she ran out of energy to do so and simply collapsed against her husband. Quietly sobbing. She didn't want to leave, she didn't want this time to end. She had enjoyed her time beyond anything that she could earnestly muster.
"I'll come back... I will... Don't..."
Somewhere deep, that unvisored head raised up and it's brows furrowed. As painful as it was, it knew what it had to do, what it had to hold onto. Even the corrupting influence of the wisemon was given pause as this extreme emotion flowed through her body...
This love will not be forgotten. I won't let it be. Wisemon be damned.
