It seemed that K, or at least Garlond, had a handle on the Knights - and with at least a tenuous plan going forward, the emotional dam the two had built up to discuss this situation finally broke.
The gravity of what they were talking about hit Mikemon all at once. Pulled into K's grip, Mikemon would hug her back, right under her shoulders, burying his eyes right into her neck. "Damn it... damn it, you mean the world to me, too! I... I don't know how I... K!"
He couldn't hold back anymore. The doctor was a strong one, but in the midst of this news, of the terribly short time these two would have together, the cat cried, holding tight onto the one that he loved as if it would somehow keep her here for any little bit longer. His form was tense, his mind distraught, unable to even think of the days to come.
It took him at least a minute to hear it. Between the coughs, she'd hear it - the soft song, the lullaby that she'd whispered to Syre when she would put her to bed, or even just hum to herself on a good day. Slowly, the cat's breathing calmed, more intent on the fox's coughing, her song, her tone. When she finally fell back, exhausted, the doctor finally found his tears come to a standstill, silently squeezing the Renamon's shoulders before letting go.
Silently, he propped her head up, and gave a smile.
"Shh... I... I know, K. Let me just grab you a lozenge or something for that throat, okay? First thing we have to do is, well, get you back up on your feet..."

It was painful like this, knowing that hse had to pass the torch on to someone else because she couldn't handle it at this point. The emotions that ran deep within the both of them hit her like a truck and she nearly lost it again as she felt her husband hug her again. Driving his face against her neck and all she could do was just hold him tightly with that single arm. The other straining lightly as it wanted to hold him too...
"...Mikemon..."
She'd manage an earnest, pleading word. She knew he could survive without her, she knew that he could move forward but it would be so hard with how much they loved one another. She gripped him tighter and tighter. Her body shaking lightly as the other cried in her grip. The tenseness of his body wasn't lost on her nor was the loss he would be feeling. She felt it too, it was impossible not to.
She was just glad that her song was able to reach his ears, that it was able to calm him down. She'd sigh sweetly, rubbing along the other's back lightly even though she struggled to move much else.
"All right... Feet and then... we can figure something out... I know we can..."
She didn't so much mean what they had to do at this junction but what they could do. There was so many thing she still wanted to do with her kids and her husband that she wasn't even sure where to start or what he'd have in mind. She'd close her eyes wearily and exhale slowly. She didn't...
She didn't want to die just yet...
But her wants, her desires and such didn't matter anymore, to the digital world she was just another person that wished to hold on longer when their time was short. It wasn't something she could avoid at this point and it hurt to think about. At the end of it all she thought to herself... Well. She wondered quietly if this was what was planned for her all along. To die against an evil both within and without.
But rather than become evil herself in the waning days, she would return..
Brilliant perhaps? She didn't know, it was a question she felt was justified and the musings of silence in her core didn't help either. The tender moments that she shared with her husband making the inner machinations of her body reach forward.

No-one said this was going to be easy.
It wasn't just the Mikemon, of course. As he let out his tears, he felt K's desparate grip around him, one that was trying to hold onto everything she could from this world. Just as much as she was trying to comfort him, he was trying to comfort her, even cursing himself that he had made K worry.
Worry about him, of all things.
As that little song spun down, the cat letting K lie back for the moment, the doctor kept his smile as best he could. He squeezed her tight for a moment, before letting go, slipping off to the side of the room to grab a bottle of pills. Simple cough medicine: he'd set it on the table next to K, before carefully resting his hand at her neck and chest, a healing aura radiating out into her frame. At once, the ragged sensation in her throat would dull, and she'd find herself able to breathe without feeling raspy.
"... We'll spend the first day, or day and a half, sorting out what needs to be done. Paperwork, anything with the Knights, letting anyone you want to know, know what's going to happen. Then... then we'll deal with how to tell the kids. They'll be upset, yes, but they need to know what's going to happen."
With that sorted out? "... Then we're going to spend the next three days for 'us'. Whatever you've ever wanted to do, we'll find a way - and I'll open up my calendar. No concerns, no worries - we'll just spend them together in each-other's company, not worrying about tomorrow."
He smiled, trying to keep himself together.
"You deserve so much more. But considering the circumstances... this is the best I can offer."

How could she not worry about him? How could she not worry about the person that she was going to leave behind that she cared about so passionately? She was rather grateful for both the pills and the healing that he did to her, it was nice to breathe without having needles in her throat so to speak. She'd rub her face with a hand, it was hard not to cry right now and it was even harder to sort of keep on moving forward even though she knew she needed to. It was hard not giving into the despair she felt. But her husband could do it.. so she could too.
"I'll just talk with Garlond, it'll be a short discussion, some paperwork... I..."
The renamon paused and thought about it. There were far too many people that she would want to let know, she'd close her eyes and exhale slowly. There was a way around that wasn't there? She knew her friends wouldn't be mad at the informal nature of what she was going to do or even suggest but with such limited time...
"Tamernet will suit my needs. I know that most of my friends, if not all of them browse it. A final farewell message."
Another pause when the children were brought up and she'd close her eyes softly. She knew that would hurt the both of them and she knew that it'd be hard for them to accept.
"They'll understand but they won't be happy with it. Holly will likely throw a fit and... well syre's always been good about taking bad news hasn't she?"
K chuckled softly and sighed, then his suggestion of them spending the next three days together. She'd stare at him and reach forward to stroke his cheek. Gingerly holding his head with that hand.
"...There's a lot that I've always wanted to do but given the situation I'd... think staying home with you and maybe... we could go out to eat or the like I..."
The renamon rubbed her face softly, she felt just so powerless right now. There wasn't enough damn time! Did she really deserve so much more? She found herself wondering and she'd look at her husband, with that expression he kept she already knew the answer...
"...I'm going to stretch my wings for examon just the once. I promised her that we would fly above her home, so for a bit of one of the days can we go do that? Together I mean... The sights we could see and then... Why don't we visit the places we both enjoy? Or... Just..."
K screwed her eyes shut and let out a nerve wracking sob. Placing her hand up against her face she couldn't really keep herself straight at the moment. But before the conversation could move on any further there was that audible snick of a lock being opened and garlond pushed the door open albeit very slowly. His face was somber and there was a bit of redness to his eyes. It was quite clear that he had heard everything.
"....Ms. K. Doctor Mikemon... I. You needn't worry about the knights on the first day or any paperwork. Get the files you need to written up and sent my way. The time you have is fleeting and it's best not spent worrying on the frivolous nature of documentations."

Damn it, why were they so short on time!
K already felt the pressure, and Mikemon took note. Though Tamernet would suit her needs, it was clear that she would prefer to say a proper and heartfelt goodbye to each and every one of them. Even if she spent the entire week to it, though, she'd only run herself ragged with emotions - and at that point, how did she choose who to tell and who to not?
Hearing this, the cat gently took K's hand in his own, folding a paw right atop her glove. "Don't think Syre's going to take this one lightly. But they have each-other... and both of them have surprised me in such a short amount of time." He gave a small smile, letting K's hand rest against her cheek - as the fox started to stammer.
'Stay home'. 'Go out'. Even a flight to try and stretch her wings to fulfill a long-lost promise. As K sobbed, the cat felt his own tears well up. "That's a wonderful idea. We can get a cabin up in the mountains and have an evening of flying, just seeing the world stretch out beneath our feet. We can hit up the town in Whitewater to have a date much better than our first one..."
The cat's comforting words stopped as he heard a click at the door. A glance over saw the red-eyed butler - one who had been eavesdropping on their entire conversation. To his presence, the doctor tensed up... and gave a slow nod.
"To think this is how I meet you in person the first time..." The cat shook his head. "But I can't thank you enough. K..." He turned his attention back to the fox. "Sort this out with Garlond. I have a few calls I need to make myself about this, as it is... I'll meet you back out front."

"It felt like I spent the least amount of time with her even though she's been around the longest. I don't even know where siris is, knight business perhaps but... That foolish boy, what is he going to do without me? Tch... Both of them surprised you? Syre got to mega in a year or so, holly even less. Both of them have other achievements that I can't even begin to state how proud I am of them. I hope that I can at least ease their pain."
K sighed softly and closed her eyes, she'd shake her head idly and then blinked at the suggestion of getting a cabin up in the mountains. That evening of flying, seeing the world... Going to whitewater for a better date. She'd slowly nod and give him a soft smile.
"That sounds lovely dear... It's the little things..."
K turned her head to see Garlond, whom stepped lightly into the room. The door firmly closed behind him. Though one hand remained on the handle. The butler managed to give Mikemon a half smile.
"It's always the strangest times for first meetings. It's a pleasure sir even if the situation is not."
K perked up a bit and simply nodded as her husband told her what he'd be doing. She'd grip his hand one last time before pulling away lightly. Garlond of course stepping over. He had some papers with him and a pen along with a very familiar necklace. One that belonged to her squire. K's eyes shifted from her husband with a small sigh as she knew what that meant. Joseph had really thrown away his attachment to his old tamer?
"Well we have little time to waste, these papers will handle the stature of the knights in the meantime. Leadership itself will be held in an empty position, Joseph and I will act as stand ins until a better leader appears or when you return."
"Don't worry dear I'll be quick about this. Let me see those papers..."

"... He'll make do, somehow. Syre and Holly will also be just fine, its just going to be rough for them, at least for a bit."
They couldn't dwell on the negatives for too long, but Mikemon had confidence that Siris would show up with the Knights sooner or later. A few warm thoughts were all they had the time for before the butler Renamon made his entrance. If they could sort out these matters in a few hours or so, that meant more time on K's side.
"Don't rush, K, take your time. Better we get this done right." With a nod, and a half-bow to Garlond, Mikemon made his exit: "Oh, actually, you mind if I grab an empty notebook or something? I'll just snag it from the supply room - I've got to at least get my notes down." Presuming that wasn't a problem, the cat would slip out of the room, and make his way to the front, pad and pen in hand.
... Alone, in the foyer. Gritting his fangs, he shook his head, trying to disperse away those thoughts, as he labelled the top of the page:
Case No. _____ - Malignant, Terminal Data Infection. Core Type : D-4 Species: Renamon...

"Well he's nothing if plucky. I wish I could do more to cushion it..."
K let loose a sigh and just shook her head. There wasn't much she could reasonably say to her daughters about this entire thing that would. Their mother was dying and that was that. She was glad that Garlond was here and willing to take charge, even if she sometimes felt so out of place around him. She'd manage a light smile to mikemon before patting his shoulder.
"I won't rush don't worry... you're right on that part eh..heh.."
Garlond however returned the half-bow with one of his own, blinking lightly at the request. Garlond gave a nod and even so much gestured in the direction of the supply room.
"Certainly sir, they're in a beige box. Should be labeled 73."
Garlond didn't know what the doctor needed the notes for but he wasn't going to argue with the doctor. He instead would turn his attention to what amounted to his Mistress in a sense. He'd hand her the papers one at a time, allowing her to read them over. Giving good thought to them as well as offering insight to changes that needed to be made.
It only took them two hours to get through everything. At the end it was decided that Joseph would be the stand in leader while Garlond would handle anything in terms of paperwork. The shy, uncertain Guilimon that K had met years ago in the human world had long since been changed into someone that was almost as capable as she was. In his own right, he shouldn't be a squire anymore but he refused to actually become a proper knight. Hopefully this wouldn't go to his head.
At that two hour mark mikemon would hear the clicking of K's claws against the stone floor of vander tower. She looked a little better in terms of emotions and was reading over something that without too much of a word would hand it to mikemon.
It was an apology letter of all things.
But it wasn't from her to someone else. It was from someone else to her. There was no name, no honoraries or the like, just a simple apology from some unknown. She looked rather baffled about it and judging by the look in her eyes she hadn't a clue who it could be.
"All sorted out, a few things are up in the air but they're stuff that Garlond needs to smooth out with Joseph once he gets back from his investigation."

"... And that should be everything, Stingmon. I need that entire list by the end of the week."
As K would walk into the foyer, she would find her husband talking on his D-Terminal, finishing up a very important supply order for the days to come. She would also briefly see Mikemon's open notes on the table next to him, a detailed sketch of K's own core on the left side, and a number of hand-drawn calculations on the right. The cat had been very thorough - both with his scan before and the notes that K saw - and when K finally made her way back into the room, he held up a single claw.
"That's right. Same list as I sent you via message - and I also need you to handle the rest of my appointments this week. Yes... yes, you can cancel that one, but the rest are just routine check-ups, we can't put those off. Alright. Counting on you."
He'd give a nod, hanging up the call, before taking a moment to sink back into the chair at the foyer. He'd nod as K would explain that her paperwork was done.
"... Same on my end, really. Guess I should just say, I explained the situation to Dr. Cross and to Stingmon. I just needed her to check over my notes, and as for the bug... well, he's 'my' Garlond."
Just... not nearly as polite or sophisticated.
"You seem to be doing a bit better- well, from Daemon's damage - now that you've had a chance to wake up. Think you can manage for now?"

K blinked owlishly as she saw her husband talking over the phone to someone, but hearing the familiar name she'd relax just a bit. She'd take a few moments to lean to look at the notes that her husband had written, content on giving him the time he needed to do what he needed to. She curiously picked up that sketched core, staring at it quietly. It was something she never was able to get into, or even get a semblance of understanding. Perhaps if things had been different she would of been a doctor with her husband, the both of them looking to cure the world of it's problems one patient at a time. Another dream for another life...
"Sounds like he gave you a bit of a rough time..."
K let out a smooth chuckle and rubbed at her neck after setting the note back down where she had found it. She'd pause lightly and then let out a small laugh at the idea that stingmon was his garlond. If anything garlond was her stingmon! Not the other way around!
"If anything dear Garlond is my stingmon, not the other-way around. But... Dr. Cross? I haven't heard anything from her in so long is she well?"
K blinked a bit and sat on the arm rest of the same chair that her husband was sitting in. She'd rub at her neck lightly and managed a light smile down to her husband.
"Getting that out of the way as well as some other things made me feel better. I..."
K hesitated and then set down a receipt for something on the table. She looked somewhat bashful about it, if mikemon looked he'd note that it was a small purchase. Really it was just a couple hundred bits at worst. But the charge was for a picture frame and a picture.
"I... Decided to get you something for your desk. I know I know, we don't really do that sort of thing but... I thought you would like it. I think I can manage for the time being. Joseph is on his way back from the investigation, some cult worshipping the D-reaper out in the dark area. But he's going to take care of it, submit some mission stuff. Then we're going to have a light talk."

"Actually, for the first time in a long while, he took me seriously."
Shaking his head, returning a light chuckle, the cat leaned in to rest his head against the Renamon's shoulder. Perhaps it was for the best that his notes were little more than unreadable jargon to her - the diagnosis within was simply grim. As for Dr. Cross, the cat gave a small shrug.
"She's... fine. Around, but with Metal Drive. It's pretty much her forte to get into things way above her head." But, really, the cat didn't want to distract K too much with that. The paperwork was out of the way, and these next few, short days would be in front of them.
... Wait, what was that about a receipt? The cat blinked as he looked down at that scrap of paper, seeing that small purchase, K almost seeming apologetic about the purchase. He gave a snrk at that: "K... freaking heck, I love it. And a whole year and you're still the penny-saving fox I met on day one." Sheesh! Stowing that receipt in his glove, he gave a nod as K spoke about Joseph. "Hm, the Guilmon? I think I've seen him once or twice - but hopefully he's doing alright out there. With all that 'Lord' stuff I wouldn't want to be trudging out there."
He paused.
"... Though I suppose that's what this team's supposed to do. Sheesh, I've never gotten used to this. So we're at least waiting for him to roll back around?"

"That's a surprise, I was expecting a few jokes..."
The renamon sighed sweetly and rubbed at the other's ears with her hand. Wincing lightly as she could feel her arm twinge. Honestly she wasn't sure what to make of the notes, they were complex, utterly beyond her past the bare basics. The renamon's ears flicked at the mention of being around Metal drive. A group she had heard of and worked with in both equal parts. She didn't know what to think about them and simply the renamon shook her head.
"I swear if I didn't know better we both have that habit."
K let out a loose laugh and rubbed at the back of her head. Honestly she felt bad for spending those bits needlessly but she would simply grin at the cat. Penny pinching was the reason she was even able to get vander tower off of the ground.
"Yeah that's him, He's... well. He's different than any that I've met and I'm not sure what to make of him sometimes. Shy at first and now he's doing stuff on his own. Been an interesting couple years."
K leaned lightly and ran her hand along her husbands shoulder before giving it a gentle squeeze.
"It's hard to get use to it I know, I'm still working on getting used to it and I'm the leader of them!"
K chuckled lightly and rubbed her muzzle, blinking lightly and then looking around. She spotted a clock and then grinned ear to ear.
"Shouldn't be too long... He's got a home portal device so it's just a matter of him getting downstairs."
"Suggesting I haven't been back since Garlond contacted me."
K almost jumped out of her seat as the Black and yellow Guilimon-x walked out of the stairwell. He looked remarkably well, a satchel over one shoulder and with a casual ear twitch he'd give the doctor a small nod.
"Doctor. Ma'am. Garlond was pretty short with the details but from what I hear I'm going to be stepping up?"
"Going to have to Joseph."
"That bad? Jeez. Well I'll hold fort best I can, Got some samples from that cult that needs analyzing anyways so I'll pass them off to the researcher I got... Tch... If it's all right with you Doctor I'd like to talk to you once all of this is said and done. You two need your time and I'm not going to get in the way."
The guilimon gave a small bow and then trotted off towards the opposite stairs, pulling out a small communication device, the rapid beeping of the device said that he was making a call...
"To think... I used to have to baby him so much."

"Well, yes, we get in over our heads as much as they do - but its still both of our jobs to point out how silly the others are being."
He gave a small huff, simply listening as K explained about Joseph, leaning a bit into that shoulder rub as he did so. Well, he knew even less about the Guilmon than he thought he did, but there was nothing to be done about it other than wait for him to-
- Oh there he was! Jumping himself, the cat found that odd yellow Guilmon step out of the stairwell - and quickly take command of the situation. The butler had already explained the situation to Joseph, it seemed, so that there was little else he had to do but check in. His tone was professional, the doctor giving a nod as he spoke. "Of course, I'd be happy to give my opinion on that. The more we know about the D-Reaper, the better."
He gave his own nod as the dinosaur walked off, his ear twitching as K spoke.
"Its because you're a good leader. You have to be, to get everyone here on the same page." He gave her a playful nudge of his elbow against her side, before he would simply ask:
"... So what do you want to handle first?"

"If I didn't know any better I'd say the three of us are related somehow."
The renamon chuckled lightly and grinned down at the mikemon, somewhat amused at the moment. She'd swiftly shift her weight so she wasn't leaning too hard on him however when joseph took command of the situation. She wasn't sure how he felt about her personal connections with her husband but... Considering how polite and such he was being?
"Good, There's a few problems we'll have to deal with when the time comes. For now it's mostly just observation. They haven't done anything stupid yet but I'm not holding my breath."
K mulled over the potential situation, rubbing at her muzzle. This was out of her league at the moment, something she couldn't deal with and at that playful nudge she'd grin wide and give mikemon a kiss on the cheek.
"to be fair the page wasn't hard to find, all I had to do was find the right people."
K stopped and then look down at her hand, squeezing it tightly around itself. The knuckles cracking and popping lightly and she couldn't help but sigh. Closing her eyes she'd shift to hug her husband again.
"The kids deserve to know. They're both back at the library aren't they?"
Out of everyone she wanted them to know, she wanted to spend the day that she had anticipated losing to paperwork with her children and try her hardest to get them to settle down a bit. Hopefully she could make some decent progress in cushioning the loss that was their mother but... She didn't know what else she could really say.
"Bring the notes, they'll want to see for themselves and they're far smarter than I am."

"Scared people will do stupid things, Joseph. Some of them might end up being our patients in the end."
But, that was for another time. As the Guilmon took his leave, and as Mikemon planted a kiss on K's own cheek as she tried to pull away, the cat's ear gave a flick as K said what she wanted to do - to tell the kids, to spend the day with them. He'd give a nod, and gather his notes, keeping them tidy in the notebook. "... Let's give it a go, then." Back at the Library, Syre found herself tense.
After all, the last time she'd seen her mom, she'd been beaten half to death by some demon lord, and then Iko and Luke went off to try and settle that, and she didn't know what happened to any of them! So, she found herself in Holly's room, doing something, anything to put her mind off of it for a little bit.
Even if that meant helping her sister sort her new medical textbooks.
"Let's see, Introduction, Basic Data Analysis... wait, dad wrote this one?" The cat gave a blink, shaking her head, as she looked over her shoulder towards Holly. "You did check the book list before you ordered, right? We might have been able to find a few of these on dad's bookshelf..."
