The Call to Adventure, Meeting the Mentor (Arakan/Ask)

"Oh..." Arakan muttered, looking up at the tree and then letting out a huff. If it wasn't the tree, then what had her spirit brought her here for? For awhile she would just kind of lay there in the grass, asking these questions and more to herself- or rather, trying to ask them to the spirit inside her. When she put her paw down and forced herself to calm down, it worked pretty well. Kind of like tugging on a leash and telling the inner puppy to stop. It was just a theory, but she could already feel it working. She felt like she had much better control of her body already.
"When I woke up I had very basic instructions.. Even if they were a little vague to me at the time, since I lacked knowledge about spirits and Digimon. But knowing a little bit more now, I think I know what my spirit was trying to guide me into doing. It wanted me to follow your scent- It was powerful, but familiar." She recalled the events to Charles from before they had found each other. There wasn't much of a point in telling him other than that it helped her to get her thoughts in order by voicing them aloud. "Find you, follow you.. Find the village. It was really simple until we got here and then it was radio silence. I had this feeling of accomplishment, like I had just done something really great each time I accomplished one of the little goals put in front of me." They continued on, explaining their own feelings in detail up to this point.
Arakan was a smart and logical thinking girl, most of the time. When she finally had a hold of herself everything just felt so much clearer. The girl took a nice deep breath and held to her focus as much as she could. Slowly but surely she was starting to feel like herself again, but she couldn't break her concentration now. "I've done all you asked.. Please give me my body back." She requested, though it came out more as an order. Whether she was talking to her spirit or Charles was something only she could be certain of, though it was likely obvious she was just giving Plotmon a good stern talking to.
She would feel a bit of a tingle, like static electricity tickle her and course through her fur making it stand all on end. It wasn't the most comfortable sensation in the world, but accompanying that feeling would be little bits of code and other data starting to sort of drift off of her. She was back in that dark, black place again. But this time it was sort of like looking in a mirror, at Plotmon. She wasn't sure how she knew it was her spirit she was looking at, all she had was a gut feeling to confirm it.
For a brief moment Arakan felt irrational anger towards the pup. She wanted to scold them for having hijacked her body for this long, but she knew better. She knew how Plotmon felt and why they had done any of this. In a way, the spirit had saved her from what would have been certain death by bringing her to the Digital World. Her expression softened and she regarded her other half with a nod. "I know you're excited, but I need my body back.. I'm tired I need to rest. But I promise I won't leave you. I'll be here when you need me, just as I'm sure you'll be here when I need you."
Whether she liked it or not, the two were connected in order to fulfill some sort of purpose. Whatever purpose that was, even the spirit was hazy on. It was as if pieces were the puzzle were missing. All of what either of them knew was that it was connected to this village. And somehow to Charles. It wasn't a mere coincidence the two had met, at least according to her spirit. Outside of her apparent pseudo-meditation, it would appear that the Plotmon was consumed by a light that grew increasingly brighter until their features were hidden completely.
Arakan was in sort of a place between consciousness and unconsciousness, she was aware of the changes occurring with her body but could not move or react to them. She was essentially stuck in the depths of her own mind with her Spirit. It would take more than talking Plotmon down to have her change back fully, though. They still required a device like Charles, but at least now she knew how to get it. Plotmon had it this whole time, hidden from her to keep her in her current form for as long as possible. There would be no more secrets like that though- not with her being in control.
She got down onto one knee and held a hand out towards her spirit. Though this place was seemingly a limitless black void with no floor or ceiling, she still was able to stand and kneel down just fine as if there were a floor beneath her regardless of the lack of sense that made. "Please.. I promise. Tomorrow? We'll figure this out together. Us and Charles." They asked politely with an additional reassurance, unable to help but feel sympathy for Plotmon.
For a moment the spirit seemed to hesitate, taking a sniff at Arakan's open palm before seeming to relent, nodding their head in agreement. And rather than physically give the device to her, it would simply form in her hand. Starting as an amorphous blob of bright light with data and code bleeding off of it until fully forming a device not unlike Charles' own, except this one was a mix of bright reds and light purples. Meanwhile, back with Arakan's actual body a transformation had began. The light that consumed her began to shift and move about, until there was hardly a resemblance to the general shape of a Plotmon. Arakan felt no pain, but still it wasn't the most comfortable sensation out there.
Not long before she had become like what her device had been before taking to an actual shape and form, just a blob made up of code and other data. Stretching out and increasing in size until taking on a more human shape. One that had its hand held out in front of them. Arakan's form became more solid, and as her hair rolled down under her shoulders in the place it belonged, the light faded from her. Arakan was hot, sweaty, and smelled sort of like wet dog. But she was so relieved to be back to her normal self that she could ignore all of that and turn back to Charles, a wide smile on her face and a brand new Digivice resting in her hand. The screen displaying a totem shape, not unlike Plotmon with a dull and quiet beep coming from it.
"Just an excited puppy.. Anxious like me and needed a little reassurance. It led me to you and then to this village, but neither of us really know why so.. I suppose that's gonna be a tomorrow thing, huh?" She asked, though she wished she were joking. As much as she just wanted to go home and stay there, she was committed to helping Plotmon. Maybe it was that empathetic connection they had, but Arakan just couldn't let the situation sit. Besides, she had made a promise and she wasn't one to go back on her word.
She put the device away in her pocket and sat in the grass with her legs crossed, letting out an exhausted breath. Being stuck like that for so long had left her winded and without all that extra puppy energy to make up for the difference she was really tuckered out. "Do you know what your spirit wants you to do? Or does it just stop at this tree?" Arakan asked, looking up at the tree. There was a feeling of familiarity whenever she looked at it but she couldn't quite place her finger on why. She knew the how of it, obviously. It was Plotmon's feelings and memories sort of mixing with her own, but neither of them knew why. Parts of the equation were missing, and from here it was a matter of finding those aforementioned missing parts.

Charles would glance to Arakan as she explained herself, listening closely as she recounted the events, the tasks that her spirit put her to... He'd hum for a second, wondering what must've been familiar about his scent to the little Plotmon spirit, why it wanted to come to the village... Though, in thinking of it... "Perhaps the Plotmon wanted to come here, because the village is familiar to it?" He'd suggest - adding "Seeing as every digimon seems to originate from here... It's possible they grew up here, like the little Wanyamon did. I could certainly see a spirit wanting to linger near things familiar or significant to it, like this tree."
As he spoke though, Charles would glance towards the tree, watching the Wanyamon sitting on the roots under the boughs and admiring the flowers... A single petal would begin drifting down, and the spirit would glance towards it - a certain hue of excited playfulness spiking in the back of Charles' head in reaction - as it leapt out towards the petal, chasing it around as it drifted in the wind. Though the little spirit made no noise, he could still sense its excitement, its growing prey drive, as it chased after the petal - he could even picture the anticipation it had at the idea of finally catching it as, with one huge leap, it would catch the petal in its mouth! But in watching the Wanyamon, he wondered - though he was able to more or less share in the feelings that the Wanyamon had, how in-tune was Arakan with her own spirit? Could that be the issue, too...?
Hearing Arakan speak once more though, Charles would break away from his thoughts and glance in her direction; blinking. Certainly, he had no way to tell for sure who she was talking to - but it wasn't hard to infer that it was, most likely, her spirit that she was trying to petition for her body back. He'd frown faintly, and reach out to comfort her, but... He'd stop himself and blink, surprised, when he'd see faint traces of data and code coming off of her fur; leaving him to wonder what, exactly, was going on here. That confusion would only grow as a glow begun to overtake Arakan's body - unawares of the 'meditation' that Arakan was in, and the talk that she was having with her spirit; though he could certainly recognize that something was going on...
Before long though, Charles would watch as the light would begin to shift in shape - changing as Arakan herself changed back to her normal human form bit by bit. Though this all alarmed Charles at first - being unsure of what to make of it... Seeing that Arakan turning was back to her normal self, he couldn't help but smile just as brightly as she did, once the light would begin to fade, and reveal the young girl for who she truly was. "Welcome back, kiddo." He would chuckle with a warm smile in the other's direction. Though the wet dog smell didn't escape him - this form's nose being decently sensitive - he, too, disregarded it for now as she spoke to him. Despite the question about everything being a tomorrow thing being a bit rhetorical, Charles supposed that it was worth an answer; musing out loud "Perhaps the Plotmon will remember, if you give it some time?"
It seemed that Arakan was rather tired though, looking her over as she sat down next to him. He couldn't help but also note the fact that, as a human, she was a bit taller than him - perhaps by a foot, if he had to estimate. At her question though, Charles would shake his head. "I'm not entirely sure, myself... I imagine it's something that I'll learn with time, the more I familiarize myself with the little fella, but..." He'd glance back to the Wanyamon, who had curled up amongst the roots, a few chewed up petals that it had caught scattered about it. "... I can, to a degree, feel what they feel, ever since they 'hopped' into the device, and I became Gaomon. Their nostalgia and ease at being near the tree, their excitement and joy in chasing petals that drift thru the breeze... Even now, they're feeling content and lazy after having chased some petals around - but I don't think they can necessarily become tired."
"But either way... Even if you and your little friend have more adventures ahead of you - I imagine it'd be worth heading back to Shibuya, or at least finding someplace you can rest, kiddo." Charles would comment with a wry hue, chuckling and looking over at Arakan once more. "You seem rather tuckered out, and I imagine we won't be allowed to stay here forever."

"Thanks Charles." Arakan huffed pushing her hair out of her face and took a deep breath, resting her hand on her forehead while she talked. "Probably not for long, yeah. I imagine the little baby Digis would be freaked out by our weird.. 'ability' or whatever you wanna call it." It was so good to be back in this form with two arms, two legs, and opposable thumbs. More good than she could put into words- Suffice to say, she didn't sympathize with those who would have preferred to be in that four-legged form all the time. It made her so tired and she didn't want to imagine what it would be like trying to open a door that has a knob.
"Plotmon was excited that whole time, it was near impossible for me to contain it without knowing where it was all coming from. They were their absolute happiest once we got to the village though, so I can only assume there's something here that I haven't found yet. Or maybe it's just relevant to their memories?" She muttered, taking her hand away from her forehead and leaving her bangs pushed to the side so they weren't trying to stick to her face. "I'm not particularly up to trying to figure all this out today. I wanna go home and shower until the hot water runs out." Arakan chuckled, and though they didn't want to go back home to their father and wicked stepmother, Charles was right. Her plan had it's flaws and she needed to rethink a lot of it. But that was okay, because now she had the Digital World to escape to when it got to be too much.
And besides those apparent benefits, she really needed the shower. She wasn't about to be stuck smelling like dog all of the time. Metaphorically speaking, it was time to take a hose to the mutt. "Yeah... Shower, sleep, and then tomorrow I'll come back. What about you?" She looked at Charles quizzically. "I imagine you'll wanna spend lots of time in that form."

Charles would nod kindly to Arakan in response to her thanks and agreement, "It certainly is interesting, though..." He'd hum as he stood - glancing down at himself. "... forming bonds with spirits like this, so that they can lend us their forms. Giving us their strength." Even if it seemed strange, and was likely pretty awkward for poor Arakan with her trouble with four legs, he couldn't deny that there was something about having keener senses that he found intriguing; let alone the fact that this form gave him all the energy and spryness that he had when he was younger. Speaking of spirits, though...
He'd glance back to the Wanyamon, and the little spirit - as though sensing their intention to leave - would perk up to glance back in his direction. The little spirit seemed hesitant to leave the shade of the tree, Charles being able to sense its apprehension, but... He would simply give the other a gentle smile; extending a gloved hand in its direction. "It's okay. We have all the time to learn more about each other," He'd call to the spirit; "Come on, little one; lets go home. We can always visit another time." The Wanyamon would pause for a second, glancing between the tree, and Charles... Before finally making up its mind, hopping up to Charles, and phasing back into his body.
Much like before, it was a strange sensation - the feeling of tingling static - but he was quickly adjusting to it. What he didn't quite expect, though...
... was a brief image that would come up in the back of his mind, as the Wanyamon returned to his body. An image of a fluffy catlike digimon - resembling that of a tabby - extending a paw out towards oneself. "Come on, let's go home."
The image would make Charles blink, sucking in a slight breath in surprise, but... Straightening up, he would consider it for a second, before glancing back towards Arakan; listening as she talked about Plotmon. He would begin walking as he listened to her - heading back towards where they had entered the Village from - before mentioning "I think there's a lot of mysteries, surrounding both of our spirits..." as he pondered that brief image from before - a memory? "It's likely something we'll figure out with time, though, as long as we're patient." He'd conclude - chuckling with Arakan as she mentioned her need for a shower. Though, that did make him wonder - he'd tilt his head at her, and glance in her direction; asking "Changing gears?" in regards to her previous plan to visit her mother.
As she asked him what he wanted to do, though... Charles would think it over for a second, before musing out loud "If I'm honest, I'm unsure. There's certainly things about my spirit that I'd love to learn; and I don't have many obligations that keep me in the real world, beyond spending time with my daughter, and the occasional odd jobs I do, seeing as I'm retired." Pausing for a moment, he'd continue "In this form, I feel young all over again; like I could take on the world, like I once did all those years ago. Not to mention, that time here seems to flow differently from in the real world; at least, going off of my first brief accidental visit to here - so I could probably spend a good few days here, without anyone in the real world even having the slightest suspicion. But..."
"... I don't know if I necessarily want to dedicate myself to this world, either. This is all something new, something amazing, and well.... something quite unknown; possibly dangerous, even. Who knows what might dwell out there, in the world beyond the safety of the cities and towns of this place? Who knows what kind of monsters might be out there, less kindly than the ones we have met thus far?" As they reached the barrier that separated the Village from the rest of the forest beyond, he'd pause briefly to consider his words. "... I suppose that's just an old man's worrying, though; even though I certainly feel young all over again, and the body to back that up - I'm still an old man at heart. Worrisome, sticking to what's familiar, and having difficulty with change." He'd smile wryly in Arakan's direction with that - adding with a laugh "And in hindsight... It's a bit hypocritical of me to worry so much, too; considering that before all of this, I had been wondering if I shouldn't do something different with my life; if I shouldn't do something to shake up the monotony and routine that I had fallen into."
"I suppose to sum it all up, though..." Charles would smile to himself as he stepped out through the barrier, to the forest beyond... "... I'll see where fate takes me; as silly as it may seem to put faith in such a concept. Perhaps we'll even run into each other from time to time - seeing as your spirit seems rather enamored with me, and we both have our interests in this world. We'll see, I'm sure."

Arakan showed concern, having noticed Charles' reaction to seemingly nothing- however slight it might have been. To her he had just suddenly seemed very alert. Maybe it was just a dog thing sort of like how she was when she was still a Plotmon. "Are you good?" She asked, arching a brow quizzically. Arakan doubted any sort of threat had come to the village, and that Charles had picked it up before any one of the other Digimon in the village could have. But still she had to ask just to make sure her friend was okay.
"Well.. You were right about what you said earlier. When I made my original plan I wasn't really thinking straight. I hate the house I'm in and I want to be out as soon as possible and boy do I really wish I could--.." She stopped herself for a brief moment, taking a breath to quell the anger that had started to rise up in her chest. As therapeutic as it was to make threats towards her step-mother, she didn't want to make Charles too concerned about her and the situation she was in. Arakan could handle it herself, if she just approached it a little better. "If all I do is sleep and shower there, the rest doesn't matter. I need a job and maybe a hobby. Are you still up for teaching me how to box?" She asked, and despite feeling like she might be far too small for the sport she would leave it to the one more educated on the subject to determine that.
"I think for some time I just might. I don't have anything to lose by dedicating a lot of time to the Digital World. I could totally spend all my free time here. Maybe I could even sleep here and forget about staying at home.. We'll see. It depends on how future little adventures like this one go. I'd still like a roof over my head if I'm gonna be sleeping somewhere." Her body was exhausted but her brain sure didn't seem to be. Arakan had lots of plans for what she was gonna do when she got back home and for what she was going to be doing here in the Digital World starting tomorrow.
Charles made a good point about the potential threats that were outside of the village though. But who said she would be leaving this particular area that soon? There had to be more to see assumed within the safety of this region. Maybe something to jog Plotmon's memory and give her a better idea of what she needed to be doing to help him.. her? Did Digimon have gender? She didn't know, admittedly she was just making an assumption. Not a fair one by any means so she would likely stick to the ever safe they's and them's. "You're right about monster stuff. I'm not sure how Plotmon would do in terms of self-defense but I don't want to make an assumption based off their size, and almost certainly they would put up a better fight than I could on my own."
She nodded her head in response. Arakan did hope she would be seeing more of Charles in the future. He was kind of the only adult he knew that had any sense and would listen to her when she said something was wrong. Being able to vent like before had done wonders for her ability to calm the inner Plotmon down, and to think more rationally in general. "Your scent stands out the most over everything else. I dunno why though." They shrugged.

"Ah.." It would take Charles a second to find his words, an ear twitching in Arakan's direction as she asked if he was okay. If he was to be honest, he wasn't sure how exactly to explain what just happened, the memory(?) still fleeting at the back of his mind. But once he did find those words, he would slowly nod and smile in Arakan's direction. "I'm alright, Kiddo." He'd remark with a soft exhale, nodding a second time to himself. "When the little fella returned to me, I... Saw something, for a second." He'd begin to explain, taking a second to ponder it over all before he continued.
"... A memory, I think; from the little spirit's perspective. I saw a cat-like digimon; something that looked like a fluffy tabby cat, except upright like I am. They were holding out a hand to the spirit like I was before. They said something similar to what I said, too; 'Come on, let's go home.'" He'd gesture, as though to convey what he meant; pondering to himself whether him having called the Wanyamon over to him had jogged something in the little spirit's memories. It certainly made sense, if that was the case... "... It was a bit surprising, if I'm honest; and a bit curious, too, to say the least... But I'm not quite sure who or what the digimon was; just that they were there."
Well, either way, Charles would slowly nod in understanding and acknowledgement as Arakan would explain herself, in regards to her original plan not being quite up to snuff. "Getting a part-time and a hobby sounds like they'd be good for your sanity, it'd be a nice way to give you a chance to get out of the house." Charles would agree with a nod; adding with a warm smile "And I'd be more than happy to teach you, kiddo. At the very least, learning a few tricks to protect yourself and getting some exercise is always good, especially if you're going to be out and about a lot." Frankly, he didn't see any problem with Arakan being small; his daughter was perhaps a few inches taller when she was Arakan's age, after all, if he had to estimate. Being small just meant she'd probably lean more to speed and evasion than strength.
At the mention of her totally abandoning the real world for the Digital World though... Charles would frown faintly, uncertain. "... Even if this place is a good escape from the troubles back home, I'm not sure if you should necessarily become totally dedicated to the Digital World, either, kiddo." He'd gently caution. "At least, not until we better understand what the ramifications of it would be. I think that we should find a balance between the two worlds, if you really want to use this as your escape, before we make any big decisions." Especially with Arakan's mention of how Plotmon would do in a fight; the pup seemed rather small and harmless, if he had to be honest... If Arakan got into a fight with another digimon, would she be okay..? Hues of concern would cross over his face; he certainly wanted to be able to help his spirit just as Arakan wanted to help hers, and he wanted to help her in that as well! But this place... Who knew what was out there, if their goals brought them beyond it...?
At the mention of his scent though, Charles would blink for a second, before glancing down to sniff at himself. "... Hm.." He'd hum a second, tilting his head as he glanced back over to Arakan, musing out loud "I wonder why, myself; I don't think I smell that odd... Though, then again, my own scent probably isn't as apparent to myself as it might be to you or someone else..." Huhm...

"A tabby cat standing upright, huh..?" It wouldn't be the strangest thing in this world so far. Not after all the things she had seen today. It still stood out, though. "We'll keep an eye out for something like that then. Even if we don't find the exact cat, we'll at least find someone who can answer questions.. Maybe. It's a better lead than none at least." Arakan shrugged, shoving the thought to the back of her mind for now. They could worry about it more tomorrow or another day.
"Yeah, being a student should make it easier for me. Schedule will probably be more slack too.. Hopefully it'll be something simple like a clerk somewhere." Arakan nodded her head in agreement, already going over the different possibilities and planning appropriately. In a perfect world she'd get a job working behind a register, as all that would take is some basic math and social skills to really do efficiently. It wasn't like she wanted to make a career out of working at convenient stores. "I'm already liking this plan a whole lot more than the original. It helps to have someone who knows about life stuff in general to bounce ideas off of." Arakan smiled lightly.
Though that smile would quickly turn to a deep-thinking frown when the flaw in her Digital World idea was made clear to her by Charles' concerned words of caution. Yes, the Digital World was new and exciting and her parents couldn't reach her here.. But that was too good. Something she could easily become addicted to, if she didn't take it all in moderation. "Yeah, you're right. I don't wanna be a Digimon all the time either, so you make a very good point. Still I don't think a night here and there away from home would hurt anything- Plus, time flows differently, right? Or at least that's our running theory. I'm not sure how we could test such a thing."
"Yeah, even as a human I can still kinda smell your scent. It's not as nose-burning powerful as when I was Plotmon, but I still notice it. Maybe it's just lingering, though. I wouldn't really enjoy having that dog's sense of smell all the time." The girl wrinkled her nose at the mere thought. She would hate to know what her step-mother smells like to Plotmon. "It might just be coincidence? My scent doesn't stand out to you in particular, does it?"

Charles would nod in agreement to Arakan's hopes that, if they found the cat digimon in question, that they could answer some questions. "It does seem an awful lot like we're getting more questions than we are answers, though." He would muse out loud, adding "And I imagine it'll be some time before we can answer all the questions that are sprouting up, at that..." The older man would sigh a hair, but would smile up to Arakan, concluding "One step at a time, though." He'd decide to leave it at that - since it seemed that Arakan wasn't too interested in continuing to worry about it.
As the subject of work came up though, Charles would hum in thought, smiling wryly to her in regards to having someone to bounce all of these ideas off of. "Working the register somewhere sounds like a decent enough starting job. Likely better than working the register out in the states, though I've only ever worked mechanic-type jobs out in Shibuya." He'd muse out loud; thinking to how in the US, you'd occasionally get customers who seemed like they were out to make your job hell. But people in Shibuya, though they were city people, still seemed to trend more towards being polite. "Having someone to bounce ideas with - even if the other person is just acting as a sounding board - can indeed help wonders, though." He'd agree with a nod.
"Oh, certainly; I imagine that spending time out here would be a great way for you to get away from the stresses you deal with at home." Charles would also agree, gently adding "It's just worth being mindful of how much time you spend out here, is all. And as for how time flows..." He would pause for a second, thinking it over, before he mentioned "I don't know by how much it flows differently, but I did notice that for all the time I had spent out here the last time... Barely any time had passed by the time we actually returned to the Real World. In fact, even though we've both been out here for awhile... I imagine not a lot of time will have passed in the real world, perhaps a couple hours for me at the most..."
But then came the talk of their scents. Charles would blink a hair, at the question of whether Arakan's scent stood out to him; and would take a second to lean in, to sniff her. "Huhm... I'm still unsure of why my scent stands out to you so much; though I can't say that you smell particularly unusual...?" He'd muse out loud, before thinking for a second, humming. "Though, then again... you're the only other human I've met out here, at least for this visit. It's possible that I'd be able to give a better answer if I found other humans to smell..."
After a second, thinking it over... Charles would be unable to help a brief chuckle. "Though, that sounds rather unusual out of context, doesn't it...?" He'd laugh faintly, grinning wryly in Arakan's direction as he did.

"Finding other humans definitely sounds like a tomorrow thing. Or I guess if Plotmon is still insistent on sharing their senses with me, we'll know as soon as we're back in Shibuya." Arakan nodded her head while responding. "I wouldn't really describe your scent as unusual though? Just stands out really well in a village full of real Digimon I guess. It could really be just a human thing, but like I said, that's an experiment for later. I'm ready to go home." After stating this, she stood up from her sitting position in the grass and brushed herself off, feeling a lot more better after having had a chance to adjust to herself again. No more four-legged waddling, just good ole' two-legged strides.
"If it's really only been a couple of hours then there's no way anyone has had the chance or even the thought to go calling the police to find me.. Not that I really expect it to happen regardless, just nice to know I won't be immediately screamed at as soon as I come through the door." She paused for a brief moment and made a face, remembering that her father was likely still at work and then shook her head. "I take it back, I'll probably get yelled at anyway but not for something actually serious." Arakan huffed, not really in a mood to want to deal with it, but she was at that point of being so angry that she was just tired.
She chuckled lightly and nodded her head in agreement. "Yeah, great thing it's not. Anyway, I don't assume you already know the way back? The forest is nice so I don't think being a little lost will really hurt but I figured I'd ask."

Charles would nod in agreement to the first part of Arakan's response, musing "Finding other humans likely wouldn't be difficult. Finding humans that don't mind you sniffing them, though, is the other question." He'd chuckle humorously with that - smiling to Arakan, before continuing to respond "I suppose that makes sense, though. It's very well possible that our scents stand out to each other because we only have each other to go off of. Either way, I agree; this is all something that we can figure out another time." It didn't take long for the village to transition to forest, as they left the same way they came in - Charles taking the lead all the while. Walking along like this wasn't too different from his human form, he noted; though he didn't have to worry about low-hanging branches quite as badly, whereas roots were a bit more of an obstacle with his shorter stature...
"Of course, that presumes that you've been here for the same amount of time as I was," Charles would point out, adding "It's possible you've been here for even longer or shorter than I have been. God only knows, really." He would still make a disconcerted frown at the notion of Arakan getting shouted at by what was likely her mother, though... Thinking it over for a minute, he'd gaze up to her with a hue of concern, asking gently "Are you sure you couldn't stay at a relative's, though, for at least for the night? I can't help but be a little concerned for you, kiddo, when you're putting things like that." The notion of bringing in protective services had occurred to him, too, if her stepmother's treatment is particularly bad, but... The legality of everything would get a bit tricky, especially if her stepmother tried to cover things up...
Either way, the question of whether he knew the way back would come up, and Charles would slowly nod. "I'm decently sure that this is the way back - we'll be headed to a nearby village called Rosewood; I believe it's meant to be sort of a 'starting place' for digimon who outgrow the Village of Beginnings." Of course, taken with a grain of salt - given that he was still new and learning. "We'll be taking a train - I suppose even the trains here are digimon? They're called Trailmon, in any case - to what you could call one of the 'capitals' in the Digital World, Terminus, and from there we'll be able to take another train back to Central Shibuya."

"My relatives live outside of town in more rural areas... Farmers and stuff. Even if I could convince them, I wouldn't be in a convenient position to start job-hunting from in the countrysides. I guess I do have that as a backup if the Digital World and home both fall through on me, or just become too stressful." Arakan thought Charles made a really good point, regardless. She couldn't be sure that anyone else in her family would be on her side either. Maybe they just didn't know, or they were with her stepmother on this one. There was no way to know for sure without questions that could draw suspicion to herself and it made her very paranoid. "Realistically, my mom is the closest "relative" but.. We've already gone over that I think."
Arakan was mildly discouraged by what sounded like quite the distance. "Jeez, Plotmon really did take my body for a joyride..." She mumbled, sort of putting a hand on her chest. She would know better than to underestimate the energy of the inner-puppy from now on. Hopefully there wouldn't be any future joyrides like this one. "I guess even if the way home is a little long I suppose it's better that we get to know all these different villages and cities so that it's out of the way later and getting back will be easier." They huffed, feeling a bit anxious over how much time might be passing back in the real world.

Charles would slowly nod in acknowledgement; though couldn't help a faint frown at it all. It was too bad to hear that her relatives were, likely, not going to be much help in the whole situation - aside from being a last resort, at least. This certainly wasn't something that they would be able to solve with just a simple answer, he felt. He'd hum faintly in thought, scratching his cheek; thinking over just what they could do to make things a little less stressful on Arakan, but... The best conclusion that he could come to, was being there for her - which he already was, really.
Either way though, as Arakan's mention of a joyride, Charles couldn't help a sympathetic chuckle - reaching up to pat her shoulder. "I suppose this, at least, wasn't the worst place to end up - and the trainride to Rosewood was actually quite pleasant and scenic, in my opinion. You might like it, once we start heading back into Terminus" The train itself was decently comfortable, and there was something about watching the rolling hills and plains rush by out the window, he had to admit. He would also nod in response to the idea of it being good to get to know the different locations in the Digital World. "And getting to know the world wouldn't hurt, either - especially if we'll be coming here again, sometime."

"I know I definitely wanna come back. I already promised Plotmon I'd be back tomorrow but after that it might be wiser to put this place on the backburner until my situation in the real world is a little more stable." Arakan nodded. That inner-pup was against the idea of putting the Digital World off for any amount of time, but Arakan knew she was going to have to carefully balance her own life with Plotmon's own so that all would be fair.
"There's not a lot of things I wouldn't like as an alternative to all this walking we've been doing." She joked with a light chuckle. Scenic or no, automatic transportation sounded super appealing. "But if it takes a train to get from the Rosewood to Terminus I have to wonder just how large this.. continent..? is. I'll have to get a map from somewhere to see."
"What about you Charles? I imagine you've got lots more responsibilities than me and so you won't be coming back immediately, yeah?" She was curious to know if he had any of his own plans for the Digital World, or for his spirit. They had talked a lot about their own plans, but only now realized they hadn't really given Charles a chance to speak about his own. Heck.

Charles would nod along with Arakan, smiling warmly in her direction. "As long as you don't put off your responsibilities forever, it's okay to take breaks and breathers." He'd mention to her gently - "I trust in your judgement on what is or isn't too much for you, though. Just don't overdo it on either end of the spectrum, okay?" He wanted to see both her and her spirit to be happy - if the both of them were going to be sharing their bodies with a couple of spirits, it'd be good to make sure that they had a good relationship with those spirits.
With Arakan's joking though, Charles would chuckle with her - nodding. "I can't say that I'm eager to sit down - perhaps I would be more eager to rest, before I gained this strange new form, but... I feel as though I have energy to spare, like this." He'd muse with a gentle laugh, adding a skip to his step - as though to prove his point. Though, he would still glance in her direction with a sympathetic smile, to add "But I can certainly see why you'd be ready to sit down and relax - you've probably been on your feet and running around for far longer than I have been." And the question of just how large the continent was... "Hm... I can't say for sure how large this place is - but at least having the train will expedite the trip all the more. A map would likely help a lot, too."
And his own responsibilities and plans... Charles would be quiet for a good few moments, thinking it all over, before he put together a response. "Hm... Well... As I said before - I don't have many obligations that keep me in the real world, beyond my daughter. I'm an old retired man, aside from the occasional odd job I do to supplement my pension - so I reasonably could spend a good time out here, without anyone noticing. Not to mention that I'd love to learn more about my spirit, as mentioned before - but..." He would briefly pause again - to think over his words. "... Just as I am retired like an old man, I worry like one as well - and I sometimes can't help but wonder, if this much change is really good for me."

"Hmm? Well if you're needing to burn some energy, I don't mind us splitting up once we reach the train to Shibuya. You don't have to follow me back. I'll be fine from there, I know the place well enough." Arakan reassured him as she watched while he skipped ahead, and it was pretty clear that he could do a whole lot more than just that. She didn't want to take away from the fun he could have for his first time in that form though. Shibuya wasn't a scary place to be so she figured she could find her own way pretty easily.
"Does your daughter know about the Digital World too? I don't know how safe it might be for someone who's just plain mundane human without a spirit but.. Maybe it'd help if she knew where you were running off too." Arakan shrugged. She knew how dad's could be about keeping secrets from their daughters, so she figured she would put the suggestion out there for Charles' consideration to avoid any potential future grief. This was her assuming Charles' wasn't already knowledgeable on the subject, though.
