Delay That Can't Be Helped [Kenny/Quill/Adrian]

Interesting times laid ahead for the digital world, in both the bad and good way. While there were disturbing things moving around in the shadows of the Dark Area and deep within the furthest sinister reaches, the world for those that kept to the light were flourishing.
Seated on a berth to himself on the Terminus City Express from Rosewood, looking outside the window as the vast forests of the East went by, was a peculiar kind of Impmon. Covered with short, smooth purple fur with white on his face and belly, he wore a large red scarf around his neck; an eyepatch over his right eye, and a red and blue glove on each paw. Perhaps this was why he was given a wide space on the carriage? Or because there were only about seven others in this car, eh, he didn't know or particularly care.
Max the Impmon-X was heading west from Rosewood, looking to see the grand city of Terminus for the first time. Not that he didn't like the town that had been his home for six months, in fact he had much to owe Rosewood. Chef Flawizarmon who taught him all there was to know about cooking; Owen the Gaomon who taught him about combat and survival; even a few humans had come to visit and taught him a little about academic things such as math and language. But still, Max wasn't the type of digimon that liked to stay in one place for very long.
The Trailmon Buffalo pulling the train was making good time through the forest. About four hours had passed since leaving Rosewood Station that morning, and Max was stirred from his thoughts as he felt it slow down, soon coming to a halt next to a platform by a small village near the edge of the Server Woods. Max looked up at the station name sign, apparently this place was "Gemstone Springs". A pretty name for a village, he supposed.
But, there was some commotion on the platform, it seemed. Max saw several digimon wearing hi-vis vests and worker hats running up toward the Trailmon, waving red flags and calling frantically. They were rookie bird digimon. Curious, Max opened the window and poked his head out to see what was up.
"Sorry, can't go any further." the Muchomon said to the Trailmon. "A tree has fallen over the main line to Terminus. It'll take a while to have it removed and repair the damage. It shouldn't be too long to wait though, we should be done within two hours."
"I see, then it can't be helped." the Trailmon Buffalo replied. "Passengers, we will be delayed for up to two hours due to a fallen tree on the line ahead. Feel free to disembark and enter the village if you wish. I'll blow my horn and wait ten minutes once we get the all-clear."
Welp, can't be helped indeed. Well, that wasn't so bad. It was a cloudy day, but not rainy, and two hours would give Max plenty of time to look around the village, see what was happening. He might even get the chance to cook his own lunch - a prospect he'd enjoy thoroughly since the food in the Trailmon's cafeteria car was just abysmal.
Max then pulled his bag from under his seat (he was too short to have put it on the overhead rack), slipped it over his shoulder and stepped onto the platform, hoping to follow his nose and see where they sold food here.

Even after joining KIZNA, there was still a lot of surprises that the Digital World had in store for him. And after all, the main purposes of KIZNA being to learn more about the Digital World and it's history was a good excuse for him and Skadi to explore it. And today, their travels had taken them to Gemstone Springs in the Server Woods. They had come here a little earlier to do some research, while taking a little excursion. Ramona was off sick today, so she opted to nap in the tree back at home.
Ever since getting imitated into KIZNA, Kenny would often wear his uniform in public to represent his team. He did have to admit, it did look nice on him, but he never thought he'd be wearing a uniform again ever since he left high school. But hey, he was part of the most important groups in the Digital World, so who cared?
He and Skadi had taken in quite a bit of data around the village, which could be really useful to KIZNA. He did want to prove he could be useful to them, and Skadi was just happy to travel the Digital World with her dear partner. They had walked to the Trailmon Station to wait for the Trailmon, and in a short time, a Trailmon Buffalo rolled up to the station, and just before he and Skadi could get up, several worker Digimon, consisting of birds, had surrounded the Trailmon, one telling the Trailmon that he would be delayed for up to two hours.
Great... Kenny silently muttered, as Skadi looked at him, worried. So much for research. His plans were to simply chalk down locales and villages around Terminus and the like and present them to KIZNA, but that had to be thrown out the window. His negativity gave way to a mental positive reassurance almost quickly, as his dad taught him. Always look at a situation glass half full. And Skadi was there to remind him.
"Look at it this way, Kenny." Skadi said, looking at her partner, "We can at least do some more research at Gemstone Springs while we wait. I'm sure the guys back at base would find that very useful."
Kenny sighed contently and smiled, "You know what, Skadi, you're right! Besides, Gemstone Springs is quite a nice place. I think they'd appreciate our work here." He stood up and slung the backpack back onto him, "How about a little detour?"
"That sounds great!" Skadi chirped. As the doors opened, humans and Digimon poured out of the Trailmon, one standout being an Impmon with a bag. But this was no ordinary Impmon, unlike Bellamy before them. They wore an eyepatch crossed into an X, and a giant scarf flowed off his neck, also marked with an X. His gloves were coloured blue and red, and an evil looking grin could be seen on the Impmon's belt. And his tail looked like it was stained with blood. But the fact no other Digimon were running for their lives were a huge indication that was just for show (or that he probably dipped his tail in red paint and it never washed off). Kenny looked at the weird Impmon with interest. The fur was the most familiar to Skadi, as the only other Impmon with fur was Bellamy. Maybe Colin and Luke were sick that day.
"Hey, Skadi," He said, pointing at the Impmon, as he walked by the duo, "That Impmon does look a little familiar."
"I know. The fur gave it away. I think that's Bellamy over there." Climbing on the seat, she called out to the Impmon, "Hey Bellamy! It's me, Skadi! Long time no see! Really dig the new scarf, pal! We joined KIZNA!" Kenny didn't bother to stop her. After all, he was also sure that was Bellamy over there, and even if Luke was absent, at least Bellamy would probably be happy to see how the duo improved over the months. But hopefully 'Bellamy' would turn around and take notice.

Rebecca was not having the best of times right now. On the surface, everything was going amazing: she had been dating her boyfriend Tadayoshi for many months now, she was killing it in the human world as White Wolf, and it was also summer vacation for her! What could possibly be wrong?
How about the fact that she had betrayed her friends and boyfriend by siding with the Digital Accident Tactics Squad, or DATS for short? Yeah, Rebecca did indeed side with them and think that they are doing the right thing, but that didn't stop the nagging feeling that she had in her gut for betraying her friends like that.
The only thing that kept her going was the thought that it was indeed best for both Earth and the Digital World.
Agumon and Gabumon had both noticed the more sad than usual vibe that Rebecca had lately, so they decided to bring her along to go on a shopping trip in Terminus City. Maybe some quality time together, just the three of them, would bring Rebecca out of her funk?
During the train ride White Wolf was just looking out of the window, a very depressed look on her face. Gabumon extended a paw and touched White Wolf's shoulder, causing her to look back at him.
"You are doing the right thing, Rebecca. They will understand soon enough."
"I know Gabumon, but... when it's all over, will they still be by my side? Especially... especially Tadayoshi."
"If he cared about you at all, he will definitely understand."
White Wolf's mouth had formed a small smile, even if Agumon was just snoring away through the whole conversation. Suddenly the train had come to an immediate stop. Apparently a tree had fallen right in the middle of the tracks and it would take a couple of hours to get moving again.
"What else does life want to do to get back at me?" White Wolf sighed as she got out of her seat, while Gabumon smacked his brother awake.
"Guh- what? Lunchtime?"
Gabumon rolled his eyes and dragged Agumon off of the Trailmon. Hopefully they'll find something to do until the path was clear again...

As Max was approached by the human and the sheep-like digimon, his green eye blinked with confusion, then gave a small sigh as he realized what was going on here. Apparently these two had met his father and assumed he was him.
Enough of Bellamy's data was inherited by Max for him to know that his dad wouldn't be caught dead with this outfit, possibly one of the reasons why he wasn't quite ready to meet him yet. But... he supposed it would be inevitable one way or the other. There wasn't much going about it, Bellamy was somewhat famous, so others would catch on that he was related soon enough. So, he turned to the digimon named Skadi with a pleasant expression.
"Hiya, Skadi. First things first, I ain't Bellamy, I'm his son, so, sorry you got us mixed up." he began. "My name's Max, and we haven't met yet. Also I got no idea what KIZNA is."
Still, she seemed nice, so Max was inclined to be nice in return. He also noted that there was a human accompanying her, so he supposed he'd be introduced to him soon afterward.
"So, looks like you two were about to catch the train, eh?" he noted, given he saw them on the platform when arriving. "That means you've been in this place for longer than I have. Say, could you please show me where I can buy some food? Thinkin' of cookin' some lunch while we're waiting here..." he leaned in closer to whisper so he wouldn't be overheard. "Between you and me, I think you should eat up too before ya board, the Trailmon's cafeteria is pretty bland."
Others were disembarking from the Trailmon too. Max noted one of them was a somewhat sad looking human girl, accompanied by two other digimon - an Agumon and Gabumon. Seemed there were a lot of humans around this village for the time being.

It was becoming quite apparent that neither Kenny nor Skadi knew what an Impmon X was yet. Most X Digimon had detectable physical differences between their original forms, like with a Gomamon X (Cassie) and their chest hair, for example. All it looked like was that 'Bellamy' got some fancy new clothes. Skadi's face fell a little bit in embarrassment and she blushed from her sudden outburst as 'Bellamy' explained, albeit rather pleasantly that his name was Max, he was Bellamy's son, and had no idea what KIZNA was. "Oh, uh, sorry Max. I just thought that you looked like Bellamy, that's all." She said, rather sheepishly (no pun intended).
Kenny got off his seat and came over to Max with Skadi coming from behind, his badge on full display, "Sorry about that, Max. My partner Skadi was just really excited about seeing him again after last time, and showing how much she's grown since our first meeting." He said, glancing towards his partner, happily wagging her tail like a loyal puppy. "I guess we gotta introduce ourselves properly; my name's Kenneth O'Hara, Kenny for short, and that's my partner, Skadi. As you can see, she's a Valaismon, a Rookie-level Mammal Digimon. It's nice to meet you, Max." He outstretched his arm to shake his new acquaintance's hand, before Skadi opted to do the same. Probably not the best time to scan him just yet to see what he actually was, because he did have some other tracts normal Impmon lacked, sans the fur, so best he got to know him first.
After that, Max asked where they could get some food, before whispering a quick remark into Kenny's ear about the Trailmon food, which made the KIZNA member chuckle a bit from that remark, "Yeah, I suppose we can grab something to eat around here. I know a fair amount of food vendors around the village nearby. Follow me." He smiled to the Impmon, gesturing him to follow him.
Just before he went off, he took a quick glance behind him to see the other departing passengers, one of them being a young looking female girl to an Agumon who was being dragged by a grumpy looking Gabumon.. Kenny had took the time to research the widely-known Digimon of the Digital World on his new D-Nexus, so he didn't really have to ask much for the more well known species. And she did look (and sound) a little familiar to him...
Kenny leaned down to nudge Skadi lightly, "Hey, Skadi, I think I can see White Wolf over there." He whispered to the confused looking Valaismon while pointing to the girl. Skadi just scratched her head in confusion.
"White who?"
"White Wolf. She's a pretty famous idol back in Japan, and she might be Adrian and Shoutmon's friends, considering she has a Agumon and Gabumon right next to her. I don't think she'd be happy if we just announced her presence, and everyone up and swarmed her right then and there." Standing back up, he turned back to Max the Impmon, "Sorry Max. Just got a little distracted right there. As I was saying, follow me, I'll take you to a good vendor, and probably show you around a bit, if you want." He said, gesturing the Impmon to follow him again. Hopefully, the Impmon would want to inquire about things like KIZNA, and the like. But hey, Kenny and Skadi were ready to answer anything.

When White Wolf and her twin Digimon got off of the Trailmon, she noticed how happy they all seemed despite the sudden delay on their ride. It made White Wolf feel a little bit better inside about her decision; she was an outsider and these Digimon are much happier without a lot of human interference.
Speaking of human interference, she was surprised to see another human standing in the station. He seemed very young, probably only a couple years older than White Wolf herself. He had brown hair and blue eyes, hidden behind a pair of glasses. Overall, pretty generic looking. He had two other Digimon with him that she did not recognize. So she pulled out her D-Terminal to scan the two of them.
The sheep-looking Digimon was called a "Valaismon," something that not even Gabumon has heard of. And the second was...
Wait, that's an Impmon?! But-but he doesn't look like any of the other Impmons I've seen!
The teen continuously looked back and forth from the screen and the supposed Impmon. Gabumon noticed was she was doing and raised an eyebrow. "Is something wrong, White Wolf?"
"Does that look like an Impmon to you, Gabumon?"
"That Digimon over there? Yes it does, but it's a bit different. Must be an Impmon-X."
"Impmon... X?"
"Certain Digimon have something known as the X-Antibody, which changes their DNA somewhat. Some Digimon like Dorumon have it naturally, while others are given it, causing them to change form. They're just the same as any other Digimon, they're not feral or anything like that."
At some point both the human and the Impmon X had looked over at White Wolf. Putting on that fake confidence, she walked right on over to the group. "Hi there! What rotten luck that the train was delayed, right?"
"You don't even know the half of it," Agumon added, "I was looking forward to getting there before the sun went down!"
"Agumon, it's twelve-thirty."

Max shrugged as he was told he looked a lot like Bellamy. While he did have some of his father's memories in his data, he had never actually met the other Impmon, so he'd have to take their word for it. "Suppose I do then." he said, flicking his orange-tipped tail patiently.
Max nodded at Kenny. "Sounds like you guys and my dad got along well then." the Impmon-X concluded. He shook their hands and repeated what his name was. "Just Max though, not Maximus or Maximillian, picked it for myself since it's got an X in it, since, like, I'm an Impmon-X apparently." Yeesh, he needed to practice talking to others more.
Excellent, they knew where the food was. Max wondered what sort of things he should cook up, something heavy like steak or pork? Or something light like fish or chicken? Well, it all depended what was available in the village.
By now, he was curious about what this KIZNA thing was, he had heard it spoken a few times in Rosewood. Apparently his teacher's husband was its leader. He supposed he'd best ask. "So, what is this KIZNA thing anyway? You seem really stoked about being a part of it."
Max wondered what Kenny was whispering to Skadi, but noticed that they seemed familiar with the other human girl with the twin partners. She then noticed them and walked over, making conversation about the delayed train.
"Eh, needed to stretch my legs anyway." Max said. "It's no big problem." He then looked between her and Kenny. "So... do you two know each other?" he asked.

Max shrugged off the comparison to Bellamy, before shaking hands with the dynamic duo and clarifying what his name was; just Max, choosing it because it had an X and he was an Impmon X. "An Impmon X." Kenny glanced with interest at the small Digimon, "Have to admit, you actually look pretty cool, Max. Not gonna lie." He smiled at him while Skadi nodded.
"To be honest, I'd really kill for a scarf like that." Skadi admitted, subtly eyeing Max's snazzy scarf.
Max had asked what was KIZNA like, and immediately, Skadi was more than willing to answer to help satiate the Impmon's interest while Kenny was looking over his shoulder, and she seemed pretty excited to elaborate to him, "It's amazing! You get to explore the Digital World, you make a whole bunch of great new friends, and we get to learn about the secrets of the Digital World too!" She would've continued, but she felt Kenny tap her on the shoulder before he leaned down, "Sorry, I'll get back to you in a second." She turned away from him to listen to Kenny as he told her about the girl.
Kenny and Skadi just only chuckled at Max's nonchalant response to Kenny's apology, and was ready to lead him, but they had only taken about 5 steps before being approached by the girl and her Digimon, herself asking about the delay. "Well, I've heard of her, at least," Kenny shrugged, "Her name's White Wolf. She's kinda popular in Japan, I think. I've seen her music videos play in Shibuya, and heard quite a few songs, if that counts. Never been much of a popular music fan myself." He then turned to the woman, "Oh, uh, hi. Me, Skadi and Max here were just out to get some grub. You wanna come?" He said in his polite demeanour.
Meanwhile, Skadi was casually approaching the Agumon and Gabumon, "Hi guys, I'm Skadi, Kenny's partner." She happily waved to them, "Where were you guys trying to go to today?"

At least the Impmon didn't seem too upset about the train being delayed. He was optimistic and said he needed to stretch his legs anyways. White Wolf appreciated that part about the stranger, as she was trying her best to be optimistic anyways. "I wonder what could've happened to have a tree fall in front of the train tracks anyways."
"My guess is that two big Digimon got careless in a fight," Agumon commented. "That would've been cool if that was the case, right? It's been a while since I've seen a good battle!"
"Wouldn't there be more damage than a single tree then, Agumon?" Gabumon asked, tilting his head a bit. "If your theory is true then that just brings up a lot more questions than anything."
White Wolf giggled a bit at the banter between her two Digimon. She then saw the other human and his partner walk up. He casually invited her and the twins to come along with them to go get food. In response she raised an eyebrow. "That's brave of you, inviting random strangers out to lunch with you. We might be murders or criminals, you know," she said with a sly grin on her face, obviously joking. "I accept but let me ask my partners first."
Speaking of her partners, they were approached by the sheep Digimon who introduced herself as Skadi. She asked them where they were going before the delay. "Hello, Skadi. I am Gabumon and this is my brother Agumon."
"Sup?"
"We were actually on our way to Terminus City to shop at the mall since we've barely been there much, and our partner is going through some… issues. We assumed it would be a nice distraction. Oh, speaking of…"
Right as he said that, White Wolf walked up to her partners. "Hey guys, that nice boy over there invited us to get lunch. What do you say?"
Agumon and Gabumon looked at each other, both with unsure looks before they looked back at White Wolf. "Didn't you just meet that guy?" Agumon asked.
"Come on, he seems nice enough. Plus I am getting hungry. You two must be starving by now, after that long train ride."
Gabumon was about to speak up, but his stomach growled before he could get one word out. Agumon heard it and started laughing at his brother, much to Gabumon's dismay as he blushed. Their answer was pretty obvious at this point.

Kenny said that Max looked pretty cool. Max beamed in return, even if his mouth was hidden behind his elaborate scarf, the smile extended to his eyes. He was glad that the first human he met outside of Rosewood was a neat guy.
"Thanks, you seem pretty neat too." Max admitted. He also noticed something familiar about his accent as well. "Heh, funny coincidence, you kinda talk like my teacher too. His name is Owen, I dunno if you met him?"
Max's accent was different of course, he inherited his father's Brooklyn style of wording, but he could tell other accents from around the digital world, but he had yet to fully learn where they came from. Most of the time it seemed like random, but he liked to learn more about these things.
When Skadi mentioned she'd kill for a scarf like his, Max grinned. "Well, my dad Bellamy did a lot of killing before I was born... of bad guys of course, the guy wasted an UltimateChaosmon over Whitewater over a year ago, but, hopefully not too many have to die for this kinda fashion."
Max then listened about what KIZNA was like, and immediately liked it. "That so, huh? Well, I'm all for learnin' secrets." he said, then respected their privacy in the next few moments.
When they next spoke, Max learned that this human was White Wolf, and seemed to be a popular musician in the human world. "Ah yeah? Like Haunted Threnody in this world?" he asked, grinning. He rather enjoyed hearing that group when they were in town.
Max raised an eyebrow at the girl's response, but supposed it was valid. After all, if she was famous, she'd get loads of people asking the same, some with nefarious intentions, so of course she'd be cautious about such propositions.
The human girl's partners introduced themselves next, and indicated they had a fairly basic quest - just to get to Terminus City, as Max did. But alas they could not, so easlily. Mainly because of whatever problem was happening with the tracks ahead.
Thankfully in the end they accepted the offer of food here. And with this, Max turned to his main objective, to gather the ingredients for a fine lunch for six... no, wait, make that twenty. There were the other digimon on the Trailmon to take care of too. And so he thought of a big recipe for that.
"My proposal... beef curry." Max said, enthusiasm beginning to show from what parts of his face that wasn't hidden. "Yeah, I know in the digital world, most beef comes from apples, I've adapted from that, let's make something exciting happen from this..."
With that, they soon came across the food market of the village. Here, Max brought the ingredients he thought would do for the stranded passengers as well as the residents of the town. Thus was his style, he wanted to make a lasting impact of the town.
In the gathering of the ingredients, Max collected most of it with his own hands, delivering it to his chosen kitchen area himself. If others helped him, he'd be most grateful. But he gathered meat apples, curry, yoghurt, olive oil, salt, pepper, rice and onions.
"For those of you brave enough to join me fellas, prepare for some tears..." Max said to those that would assist him. "Chopping onions means tears, so, we gotta chop some onions now. Don't be ashamed of it."
Max cried with the rest of them as enough onions were prepared for the next stage. He added garlic and ginger as seasoning on top of that.
After directing some further additions to sweetness, spiciness and bitterness, Max declared the final dish good enough to eat. And taking the first taste himself, the Impmon-X was satisfied.
"Alright, excellent! You guys served brilliantly!" he praised his assistants. "Let's put the rest of this on plates, eh?" and he invited them to serve the rest of the food for eating.

Kenny felt a little flustered (but happy) when Max thanked him, but when the Impmon X asked if he met Owen (his teacher, apparently) yet, he just shook his head a little sadly, "No, not yet. Bezil told me a lot about him though, and he sounds amazing. I really hope I get to meet him soon."
As for Skadi, she was a little surprised to hear about Bellamy being a murderer, but only on evil beings. And... frankly, what the other furry Impmon said that faithful night made a lot more sense now. She paused for a second or two about what Max said before she replied, "Yeah, really hope not."
After Kenny explained briefly on who White Wolf was (at least, he never really gave much of a though about the popular music scene), Max mentioned something about Haunted Threnody, which did seem interest him a bit. "Who's Haunted Threnody anyways, Max? They sound interesting." He inquired. He was more of an obscure music fan, if anything, so hey, why not ask?
Meanwhile, Skadi was greeted warmly by the lizard Digimon duo, with Gabumon explaining that they were going to Terminus today, before being approached by White Wolf. While Agumon did question his Tamer, Skadi was quick to respond, "Oh no, don't worry. He's actually really nice. And if anything goes wrong, I'll make sure I'll keep you guys nice and safe. Isn't that right, Kenny?" She gave a friendly glance to her tamer, who nodded keenly. Best to give everybody here a bit of reassurance.
So Max was proposing he make beef curry for everyone here, and while Skadi was licking her lips in anticipation, Max pointing out that the beef actually coming from apples made Kenny slightly confused. Yes, he had grown to accept the fact the Digital World was extremely weird, at least to someone like him (if the sentient trains, live dinosaurs, fluffy dragons with a hammer tail, and whole civilisation run by monsters had anything to say about it), but the concept of beef apples still seemed a little bit odd. Still, he smiled in anticipation, "Really can't wait to try it out, Max. Sure it'll be great." He had no doubt about Max's potential skill.
As they reached the market, Kenny and Skadi would give Max a bit of a helping hand to carry the ingredients with him, to help cut down on time, and because he was just willing to help. Surely, one would probably (and justifiably) raise an eyebrow or two about how Skadi could carry the ingredients from the shop and back, especially with what looked like the hair covering her vision, but if it did squat to impact her in battle, then it would do squat to impact her in day to day activities.
While helping Max prepare the dish, Kenny could feel his eyes burn while cutting the onions. Instinctively, he went over to the nearest tap to try and wash his eyes off the sting. It didn't work. It just stung harder than hell, and it would take a few minutes before he could get back to helping Max, Skadi helping him by handing him a nearby handtowel all the while.
When he came back, his eyes stinging much less, he quickly apologised to Max before resuming, "Sorry Max, I just needed to wash my eyes for a second," he explained to the Impmon X, "Maybe next time we cut onions I'll bring some gum, maybe to deter the sting for us." He did hear it helped stop the sting, but he didn't have any right now. Did Max even like gum?
Other than that, Kenny wasn't exactly a master of the culinary arts, but he was happy to help. He carefully listened to every single instruction thrown his way, as did Skadi. After all, they did assist dad with the dinner from time to time, it wouldn't exactly kill them to help the son of Bellamy.
And it was finished. Watching the Impmon X take a taste and express his satisfaction, Skadi nodded proudly, but Kenny did feel a little flustered from the praise. "Eh, it was nothing, man. KIZNA or not, I'm always happy to help a new friend in need." He just wrote himself off, but Skadi lightly nudged him.
"Kenny, ixnay on the self-depreciation. We did great. I'm more than sure Max is happy we helped him out today." As she grabbed a ladle and put one of the servings onto a dish, she added, "Hey Max, how exactly did you learn how to cook, anyways?"
Kenny, on the other hand, still was trying to wrap the concept around beef apples around his head as also grabbed a ladle, "Yeah, if anything, I bet you could really run your own restaurant somedays. I bet people from all over would be flocking from everywhere." He wasn't lying, either. If Max really was that good of a chef, than it would serve as no surprise if what Kenny predicted came true. But for the moment, Kenny and Skadi were just willing to help with Max serve the food.

White Wolf had turned her head towards the Impmon X and Kenny and realized something very important. "Oh my gosh! I haven't introduced myself to you guys yet! My name is White Wolf, and those are my partners Agumon and Gabumon. It's very nice to meet you." She did not hear Max and Kenny talking about her already, so White Wolf assumed that neither of them knew her.
She did hear Kenny ask who Haunted Threnody is though, which White Wolf did have the answer to. "Haunted Threnody? I've heard of them. They're a heavy metal group that's pretty popular in the Digital World. One or two of their songs is on Tamernet. Not really my thing but they do have talent!"
When Agumon and Gabumon showed skepticism of being invited to lunch by strangers, Skadi tried to reassure them saying she would keep the two of them safe. The brothers looked at each other before looking back at Skadi. "I don't think we need to worry about being protected, no offense. We HAVE DNA Digivolved into Ultimate before!"
Still, they weren't gonna say no now, especially since they did prove that they were indeed hungry. Max spoke up and suggested that they cooked beef curry, stating the fact that beef did come from apples in the Digital World. Still remembering that bad experience, White Wolf turned slightly green. "Don't remind me..."
In case any of the others were confused on why she acted like that, Gabumon explained, "When White Wolf first arrived she ate a meat apple raw. As you can imagine, it was not a pleasant experience."
The group walked along to the food market in Rosewood, a place that White Wolf hadn't visited since she sat back and watched others save the children from a rude bunch of Flymon bullies. She had willingly backed out at the time, but the instances of her just watching from the sidelines were adding up...
Max had gotten the ingredients and headed to the kitchen area. Agumon, having some cooking experience, decided to step up and help Max as an assistant, right now to cut up the onions. Of course Agumon was tearing up the whole time, because who wouldn't? The rest of the group could smell the dish that Max was cooking up, and it sure smelled really good.
"I can't tell if it's just the hunger speaking, but I want to get as big of a bowl of that stuff as possible," Gabumon stated with a bit of drool coming from the side of his mouth. Finally the beef curry was prepared, and he invited the rest of the train travellers to have some as well.
"I can help serve it, Max," White Wolf said, stepping up and helping the other Digimon get their plate of food, if Max allowed her to that is.

"Ah, suppose that's a coincidence then." Max remarked at the fact that Kenny talked like Owen. He recognized the name Bezil though. "You've met Bezil though? Neat. I know him as Owen's son, but we didn't spend much time together in Rosewood, mainly because he graduated from Owen's classes shortly after I started 'em."
Max realized he may have been a little too over the edge when talking about what his father had done. But, when he was born, that memory was in his mind - when his father first biomerged with his tamer and brother and acted in defense of the city of the South. Probably would be best not to bring it up again.
Kenny then asked who Haunted Threnody was. 'White Wolf' explained what she knew, which aligned with what Max knew about them. "Yeah. They're a band of humans and digimon. They go about the digital world, holding concerts and playing music. They show up in Rosewood sometimes. I really like their stuff."
Also, Max had grown up with accepting that apples bore meat in the digital world. However, his teacher had told him that humans might find that concept unusual, so he'd understand if there was any confusion. The digital world did have many unusual things. But Owen had taught him to accept and adapt to them.
To Max's delight, Agumon, Kenny and Skadi seemed to be willing to assist how they could. However, he'd keep an eye on them to make sure they were doing the right thing. He could tell they were probably beginners to cooking, considering how Kenny reacted to the stinging aroma of onions by making it worse. "Yeah, gotta be careful about that, pal." he said. "Your tears are better at cleaning your eyes out than fresh water when it comes to onions."
The use of gum to neutralize it was something new to him. "Huh, might try that out next time." the Impmon-X shrugged. He would then allow White Wolf to help serve. First a cooking spoon full of rice, then the curry on top.
When it was cooked and finished, Max agreed with Skadi. "Yep. You guys might not have gone to culinary school, but you care about the food, and that's what really matters in the end."
Skadi asked where he learned to cook. "Well, my father Coronamon's a famous chef in Whitewater, so I seem to have inherited his data in that field. But the digimon that actually taught me how to cook was Chef Flawizarmon from the Rosewood Tavern. Brilliant digimon. Skilled in both cooking and magic, and I want to make him proud. I only left when he told me that there was no more he could teach me, and he made me promise him to keep on improving."
Max blushed a little from the praise, but shook his head. "Thanks, but nah. I'm not ready yet. There's so much more I have to learn before I'd be satisfied with runnin' my own restaurant. But, thanks. I'm really glad you said that."
Deciding these were kind people, Max thought he would probably need to prompt them for them to answer. "What's your opinions on the meal by the way? Anythin' you think needs improving?" he was willing to listen for suggestions.

To Kenny's pleasant surprise, Max did indeed know who Bezil was, albeit not very much, and after White Wolf told everybody about what Haunted Threnody was, and Max followed up by explaining what he knew about the band himself, which did manage to catch Kenny's interest. "Yeah, they do sound pretty interesting, maybe when we pay Rosewood a visit, we could go and check out a concert or two."
As for Skadi, Agumon tried to reassure her that he and Gabumon were capable of self-defence, claiming to have DNA digivolved with his own brother. Skadi just nodded, and went "Oh OK, that's good to know." At least when things if things would go wrong, they did have a decent amount of defense.
Despite Gabumon's explanation, the face on White Wolf and her expression told him more than enough that eating a meat apple raw was clearly not a good idea. And while trying to help Max out carry the ingredients, his mind was still spinning. Granted, it wasn't spinning enough to stop Kenny from helping Max collect the ingredients and help him cook along with Skadi, but he really dodged a bullet with that one.
If there was anything good to take from Kenny's rookie mistake with the onions, it was that he at least gave Max some useful advice for the foreseeable future. Taking the time to clear his eyes, Kenny could at least get out, "Glad to be of assistance." He was trying to keep up his optimism under the irritation.
But if anything, Max's reassurance that their care over making the meal, despite lacking the education, had made it all the worthwhile. "Thanks guys. Maybe I should try to teach my dad about this recipe in the near future, next time I help him in the kitchen." He chuckled to himself. Inside, the praise from both Max and Skadi did make him feel quite warm and fuzzy inside, but he wasn't just going to admit it anytime soon.
So it turned out Max learned to cook from both his Coronamon dad, and the Rosewood Tavern FlaWizardmon chef. The FlaWizardmon bit gave a small pang of familiarity to them, but the promise to keep on improving was more than relatable to both of them, "That's amazing, Max. You know, I've actually been training myself under a Veemon named Valt. He's an amazing trainer, and I really hope I can make him proud myself someday!" She beamed in joy. Despite the extremely weird start between her and Valt (see: the bet she made with him), it was clear she still looked up to him, and Kenny smiled and nodded at her, believing that someday, she would.
But Max saying he wasn't exactly keen on running his own restaurant yet was a little disappointing to hear. To them, he was practically a living, breathing cooking wizard. Still, Kenny offered a friendly grin and a thumbs up, "No problem, man."
So Max was asking them to try it out? Having gotten their own modest servings after serving a few with White Wolf, not too big but not too small, and taking a plate for themselves, Kenny and Skadi took a small bite, and it was practically a curry euphoria that hit them. Max (at least according to them) was completely downplaying himself; this was probably one of the best curries they ever had. Of course, neither Kenny nor Skadi were professional foodies/food critics, so if Max took any praise from them, it would be best if he took that praise with a grain of salt.
"Max, are you kidding, this is amazing!" Kenny exclaimed, before taking another bite.
"He's right!" Skadi would chime in again, parroting her partner, "You sure do know your culinary skills! You practically knocked this one right out of the park!" There was nothing but overwhelming praise coming from them. Not a hint of sarcasm in sight, but probably not the most helpful, considering they were, again, not foodies.

Hm, maybe I should hold a concert or two in the Digital World... White Wolf thought to herself as Max elaborated more on Haunted Threnody. I bet a lot of Digimon would like my stuff too if they got a chance to listen, right?
Agumon was no master in cooking like Max was, but he knew more than the Impmon X assumed he did. Which is why he sighed and rolled his eyes when Kenny ran over to wash his teary eyes out with fresh water. Well, he chuckled a bit at Kenny's reaction to it, but that's all. "Yeah, that wasn't a good idea... although young me thought it was the best idea ever, heheheh."
Max had then allowed White Wolf to help serve the food. It was pretty simple to serve; first the rice, then the curry on top. Just like what her grandmother would do back home. White Wolf would proudly hand out each dish to a Digimon who wanted some, including Kenny and Skadi, before her and her partners got dishes of their own.
"Itadakimasu." "Itadakimasu." "Itadakimasu."
The three would then each take a bite of the beef curry, and their eyes all lit up. This was potentially the best curry that any of them had ever had. "Oh my God, this tastes so good!" White Wolf cheered with a big smile on her face. "Where did you learn to cook like this?"
Max then explained that not only was his father, a Coronamon, was a cook, but the one who actually taught him was Chef Flawizarmon, and that Max wanted to make him proud. "That is a very noble thing you wish to do, Max. I'm sure you will make him proud in no time."
As the group was talking, Agumon had managed to completely clean off his plate in seemingly no time at all. White Wolf and Gabumon looked a bit surprised, as they still had a decent amount of rice and curry still on their plates. "Agumon, did... you did remember to chew, right?"
