The low, mumbling hum of a crowd caught up in a thousand conversations. The shift and flow of pedestrian traffic. Signs advertising a hundred useful things, and a thousand not-so-useful things. It was all so familiar to the city-borne digimon. The crowds were composed of spindly, half-identical creatures called 'humans' rather than proper monsters, sure, but the root process was uncannily similar. It should have felt a bit like home. Instead, it just felt uncomfortable. It was like some vivid dream that was just wrong enough to remind you it wasn't real. Or maybe, it was more real, and that was the problem. "You humans really do all look alike," Gazimon commented abruptly from behind the young, holo-projected visage of a human girl. The voice was tone-shifted several octaves to suit, but that particular cadence and syntax that came with living life fast and loose seemed to be hard-coded. Her red eyes darted about, not the adjusted meandering of a resident she would have used back in Terminus, but the glance-glance-blink of the tourist, the out-of-towner trying to see it all at once. Upon her back rested that large backpack, which looked nearly as over sized on this frame than on the other, and which she gripped the straps of jealously, as if afraid any member of the crowd around them might try to yank it off... Or perhaps using the more familiar sensation of the worn fabric to ground herself, remind her that even in this new place in this new shape, it was just another day on the streets. She remained close to her escort, Garret, the one familiar human in this crowd of homogenized bipeds all carrying about their business. Despite the sensation of being lost, Gazimon had already started to note and decode the layout of the city surrounding them, at least as best was possible with the slowly building database that came with walking at ground level. She was confident she could find her way back to where they had slipped into this reality... For all the use that would be. She didn't have the tech to open the way back. Slowly, she started to wonder if this had been a mistake. "So, eh, where'd you say we were goin', kid?" The distinctly younger-looking of the pair asked, eyes scanning--with an edge of wonder and anxiety--the signs denoting store fronts, groceries, electronics, and books of Downtown Shibuya, familiar things that now felt just as alien as the new world they were situated in. She paused, suddenly, in front of the window display of a trendy boutique, blinking up at a trio of posing mannequins dressed to the nines in the season's latest fashions. Gazimon couldn't decide which was stranger; the fact that these ready made outfits could have fit practically anyone on the street, or her own unfamiliar reflection leaning close in the polished surface of the window. "You said this place is called Shibuya? You live around here, or what?" Holosuit Active:

Garret had made sure to stick close by Gazimon in hopes to not loose them in the crowd. It wasn't nearly as bad as some of the other places he shopped sometimes but still, they were in a city. "I'm showing you where some reliable markets are. Places that either have cheap but good food ready made, or have owners with a soft heart who would gladly just give you free food if you asked," Gar replied as he walked over to the side of the foot traffic where Gazimon stopped so they wouldn't get in the way. "And yeah I do live nearby. You see the large buildings over there?" Gar asked as he pointed off in front of them, towards some large towers and buildings. "I live in one of the apartment buildings over there, around mid level. I'll be sure to show you specifically should you ever need to come over for any reason," he said, trying very hard not to crouch down next Gazimon like he usually would when talking to kids since that would probably just be rude, especially considering Gazimon just looked like a kid, not actually was one. It was an odd choice for supposedly going solo to explore the human world but Gar wasn't here to judge.

Gazimon turned her head to regard Garret with a slight wrinkling of the nose as he spoke, although hearing his explanation in full, her expression resolves into something more thoughtful. Finally, she gave a short nod, a side-crooked smile coming to her lips, "Not bad! Should come in handy. Good to hear there're suc--er, nice folks this side'a the spatial swap. Just gotta ask real helpless like, right?" Drawing in a breath, her expression changed abruptly, large red eyes seeming to grow larger still, a tense little pout, all tied together by the slightest, ingratiating bow of the head. "Oh, I hate to ask but I'm just... Ever so hungry. It's been three days since last I ate. At... At this rate..." She trailed off, demonstration of the puppy-dog gambit complete.
Almost as abruptly, she was grinning again. Maybe the digimon's peculiar selection of holosuit wasn't purely arbitrary. Or else they'd lucked into just the right bow to pull at the heartstrings. "... That one stopped workin' pretty quick after I evolved back home, hehe." Her eyes followed Garret's motion, tracing it towards his alleged residence. She gave a slow nod to this, her eyebrows raising a bit. To the disguised digimon, it was quite a show of trust to show someone else one's place of residence, and certainly not one that she would be inclined to offer if the tables were turned.
"... Sure, thanks!" She suddenly exclaimed, pushing away from the window display with the roll of a shoulder. "Say, speakin' of food, I'm gettin' hungry. Whaddya say we grab somethin' to eat?" Gazimon started to wander off down the side-walk in no direction in particular, nose slightly raised. She sniffed for any enticing scent on the wind, only to grumble, sounding defeated after a few moments, "... Eugh, seems like this thing tampers with some of my senses. Or maybe it's somethin' about this world?"

Garret laughed in good nature at Gazimon's example. "It's a bit dramatic but it should work just as well with any old folk," Gar replied with a grin. "Anyone else you should just act like a primary schooler who got lost on the way home and got hungry. Play it carefully enough and you could become a 'customer' favorite who just gets free snacks or new food they're working on," he chipped in.
As Gazimon mentioned how she couldn't really sniff anything out, Gar cringed a little bit. "Yeah human cities aren't that well known for having the best air. Either yeah it's the holosuit conflicting or air pollution is making it a lot harder. Might even be both!" Gar answered.
"But lucky for you the little shopping district I wanted to show you to has a lot of different food shops anyways!" He supplied with a bright grin before holding out his hand. "We'll have to go a bit against the crowd on the way there so do you want to hang on to my hand so no one gets lost? Or do you think you can keep an eye on me?" Gar asked. Of course people may think it strange that what looked like siblings weren't holding hands in the crowd but Garret was never that good at forcing people to do anything.

The digimon raised the thin lines of her disguised eyebrows at Gar's feedback, canting her head and looking up thoughtfully, before giving a few nods and storing away those recommendations. "Hey, thanks for the tip, pal. What's a primary schooler though?"
"What a bother. Ah well, somethin' that bares a little testin' maybe... I'll look into it. Maybe it'll help me figure out this holosuit business a bit more," Gazimon murmured, voice nearly lost amidst the thrum and murmur of the city carrying on around them.
"W-Wha, hold your hand? C'mon, I ain't fresh of the Beginnings wagon," Gazimon scoffed, brushing the helpfully offered hand off after a moment's staring at it like it might grow a mouth and bite her. "Well, I guess... I sorta am, in a way, when it comes to this world. What I mean is, I ain't exactly new to city life, ya know?" She offered a haughty little huff at the thought, waving him off.
As she followed along, though, she did find it vexatious to keep a bead on the boy as he lead on through the press of the crowd. While humans hardly held a flickering candle to the towering stature of many digimon, they didn't seem quite as leery about brushing shoulders, so that the short digimon turned short girl had difficulty seeing past the peculiar wall of bipeds surrounding her in the thicker points of the crowd, the gaggles of individuals turned collective, going about their daily tasks like so much traffic on the net. Anxious, Gazimon began to wonder how easy it would be to get swept away in this stream of pliable persons, and how difficult it might be to find her way back to the digital world if she did...
Suddenly, her hand shot forward, gripping onto Garret's arm and struggling to wiggle her way out from between a confused, gawking businessman and a glammy Gyaru prowling the local businesses for a likely sale. "Ugh, fine. Just to make sure you don't get lost, alright?" She grumbled, defeated, as she followed along.

"Primary schoolers are young human children who are just starting school. Then as they get older they go to middle school and then to high school. Then after that they can choose to go to college as well," Gar replied helpfully.
He knew there was going to be a lot of things he'd have to explain to Gazimon, but it really didn't bother him at all. On the contrary it reminded him a lot of whenever his gymnastics team has to go help the younger league, which in his opinion is always fun.
"The park is much less polluted if you ever want to test it out there, but since it's still in the city it isn't the best control area," Gar replied with a sigh.
He wasn't very surprised that she didn't take the offer, but he did make sure to not walk too fast through the crowd because of it, as well as glance back to make sure Gazimon was still there. He was surprised however when she suddenly gripped onto his arm. He quickly apologized to the people she'd squeezed through with a quick, "Sorry sorry, you know how little kids can be sometimes," before walking a little faster with her now hanging on.
"I would be really concerned if I suddenly got lost. I mean I do walk around the city everyday so it would be weird for me to get lost all of a sudden y'know?" He said as he continued through the crowd, pulling her lightly a bit closer so she wouldn't bump against anyone until the crowd thinned out and they turned onto another street. Actually they went down a few more streets until there were much less people, and those there were mostly older women, families, or school children. There was also the odd business man or two but they were gone quickly towards where Gar and Gazimon had just been.
"And we're here! Welcome to Sumiredōri Shopping District! It's a bit out of the way so you shouldn't have to worry about crowds. I come here a lot anyways since my senior high school is nearby."

"Jeesh, humans gotta go through that much school?" Gazimon responded, sounding nearly dazed at the prospect. "Most digimon learn all the essentials in the Village of Beginnings. There a few places of learning scattered about too, usually dedicated to somethin' specific or other... But most get by just on what comes natural to 'em, and what they can learn gettin' by."
Gazimon didn't bother apologising, just giving the offending (and likewise offended) humans a sidelong red leer before she followed Gar off through more crowd, then down a handful of additional streets, slightly relieved by the thinning herds of humans. "Sure, sure," Gazimon gave a mollifying mumble at Gar's assurances that he wasn't likely to get lost. She raised her gaze as they seemed to pass into a different segment of the city where it was slightly easier to breathe, at the very least for the lack of pressing bodies if not for a change in the comparatively smog-laden atmosphere.
She was quick to focus her constantly wandering gaze on the rather enthusiastically introduced shopping district. "Uh... It's nice?" The disguised Gazimon's shifted voice came in response as she gave it a long look over. Well, that did sound convenient, and she hadn't exactly been expecting a market to rival the ever-fluctuating stalls, booths, and storefronts of Tenebrous. Seeming only just then to remember her grip on the boy, she suddenly withdrew her hand, making a show of wiping it on her skirt. "So you're in one of them human schools yourself, then? Why aint'cha there now?" She wandered forward towards the shopping center, drawn by that instinctive drive both digimon and humans inexplicably shared. Her stomach growled. "... What sorta stuff do you humans eat, anyway? Nothin' weird, right?" Of course, one's definition of weird after spending half a life time eating at the undercity's food stalls might, itself, be skewed...

"Yeah it really is a lot of school to go through, but I don't really mind it! I like learning new things even if I don't use it later in life," Gar replied as he idly scratched his cheek. "Classes don't start until nine in the morning and even then my homeroom class starts a bit later than the others so this was just as convenient for me, showing you around and such," he continued on. "So I can show you around here and all that for the next, uhm, hour maybe? Might be longer than that I did set out earlier than usual for this," Gar trialed off for a moment.
"But yes anyways! We can get some food here and then I can show you some places you can hangout and explore that are nearby while I have classes and then at the end of the school day I'll pick you up and show you some other good places!" It was a bit rambled but the idea still got across.
"I don't think this shopping district has anything too weird, for most people's definitions at least, but there are certainly some odd things that people all of the world can eat," Gar admitted as he fussed with his earring for a bit. "what are the kind of things you would usually have for breakfast? I'm sure we can find something similar!"

"Whatever you say, pal. Sounds like a bunch of extra trouble to me, and a waste of memory space besides," Gazimon's distaste at the thought showed, in a fashion, on the clean humanoid features of her projected face, likely not quite capturing the expression in full as it would have been presented with an array of fangs, nose, and ears from her natural form. "Works for me if it works for you," She shrugged, then added quietly, as an after thought, "Thanks again for showin' me around."
"Sounds alright to me," Gazimon found herself smiling for a moment. At the very least it sounded more relaxing than the usual run-around in the digital world. Well, it also sounded like it was less likely to generate any bits, but hey it was a work in progress and besides, she deserved an easy day now and then. She wondered idly if this is what life was like for most of the saps that got paired up with a human.
"Breakfast, huh?" The false human girl replied as she craned her neck this way and that, hefting her pack a little higher as they began to pass into the shopping district proper. "I ain't much for cooking or any of that. Usually just throw whatever I got in a pot and let it simmer. Or better yet, just grab what's hot, quick, and cheap off a food stand." Her lips pursed in thought and she slowly turned in place, starting to walk backwards roughly alongside her human tour-guide, large red orbs pinned to the sky as she watched with plain curiosity the growing contrail of a distant jetliner travelling overhead. "I guess if I had to say... Maybe curry fishballs, fresh made from the Evernight Sea, wash 'em down with an energy drink or some mushroom wine." Her eyes, momentarily a bit distant at this thought of a distant-world snack, snap into focus and turn suddenly on Gar. "What you usually like, then? Say you got somethin' from this place. Maybe I'll give that a shot."

"Ah well, it might be a bit early for gyoza, which is my favorite thing to get here, so I'm trying to think about what's here that won't make us feel sick in a few hours," Gar mused idly as he fussed with one of his silver earrings. He seemed to do that a lot either when he was nervous or, like now, thinking.
"I'm sure one of the owners is selling some onigiri that we can request to have a fish and or curry filling! We could always just buy a bento box as well.. ah this is a lot of choices to pick through..." Garret trailed off and quietly muttered more options under his breath as his hand fussed with his earring more, his other arm crossed against his chest. It seemed now it was a habit drifting more towards getting anxious.

"Gyoza, uh? Onigiri?" Gazimon raised her eyebrows (perhaps strictly further than was usual for a natural-born human) as this delicious-sounding terminology floated over her head. The digimon's burgeoning appetite seemed to inspire her to meander a wide swath around the shopping center heedless of where Garret might be intending to lead. To an outsider, at least they blended in well enough; they really could be a pair of children, maybe even siblings, stopping off to buy lunch before the start of the school day. Well, except for the fact that the younger of the duo tended to pause only to sniff at a stand or a store front, or occasionally a passerby.
"Hey, I'll give anything a shot at least once! You said they got fillings like that? They like some sort of dumpling?" She finally blinked her large cinnabar peepers back towards Gar after making a woman nearly fumble her eco-friendly canvas shopping bags by nosing in at the edge of one of them. "You buyin' or what? Come to think... My bits even good in your human-world shopspots?"

Once Gar had actually noticed Gazimon had started walking off, he walked a little quicker to catch up with them and giving an apologetic wave towards the woman who just had her bag peeped into. "I don't know if they're actually considered dumplings but that more or less what they're like. You can pretty much fill it with whatever you want if you're making them yourself," Gar mused in reply.
Then he had to think a little on the mention of bits. Of course he'd earned some of his own in the digital world through small things over awhile with help from Ruby but unless there were some hidden shops then.. "I don't think would be an acceptable currency, no. Here in Japan we use yen and I'm not sure what the value of bits would even be here."

"That don't sound too bad," Gazimon murmured thoughtfully, chewing on her bottom lip for a moment as she watched the woman in question bustle off in a huff. "What's that other one you said? Gyazi?" She clambered up on one of several benches set strategically about the Sumiredōri Shopping District, getting a slightly improved view of the surrounding commercial center, peering about for a likely spot for chow. The disguised digimon leaned slightly, awkwardly, side to side, seeming to struggle to balance with the weight of her backpack without the benefit of her root form's long ears or tail. The place was definitely cleaner and more organized than Malware Market, but much less expensive and, frankly, much more boring despite being set a literal world apart.
"Just my luck..." She murmurred. "Guess I'm countin' on you this time then! I'll have to puzzle out some fix for gettin' a few of these yens if I'm gonna be visitin' this side more often. What you do for yours, Gar?" She turned, arms stretched part-way from her sides to keep herself upright, to look towards her human guide, only to spot a suited man exiting one of the storefronts, lifting some manner of food to his mouth. Garret would, of course, recognise it as the aforementioned onigiri. Very likely the man had stopped off to grab some thing quick to eat on his way to work. Gazimon, on the other hand, dropped from her perch on the bench and lazily crossed the space between them, only to lean, awkwardly close to inspect the food item in question with a pair of shining red eyes.
"Hey pal! You get that in there?"

"It's called gyoza. It's a dumpling filled with ground pork and some other good stuff! It's pretty common around festival time since they're easy to carry and eat," Gar replied, explaining what it was in case Gazimon was interested in trying it even if it was a bit heavy for a breakfast. Garret would know, sometimes he doesn't think ahead before he orders.
"Oh well I have a sort of allowance my parents give me? Part of it is used to get groceries and stuff, well most of it really, but I tend to save up whatever is left," Gar explained before continuing. "I'll apply to help in small events as well when I'm not busy, but with recent events and schooling I've been pretty busy."
When he noticed Gazimon had wondered off, again, he nearly had a mini heart attack. He quickly got up when he spotted her, a hand landing on her shoulder before he looked up at the man Gazimon was questioning. "I'm sorry about that sir! She's really curious and doesn't have a timid bone in her body!" Gar then turned his attention to Gazimon. "Imōto what have I said about wandering off? I said I would show you around today didn't I?" Gar said, referring to Gazimon as his little sister so that maybe the business man would just continue back to work.

"Say-say, that sounds pretty good! Why don't we grab some of that?" Gazimon was quick to reply, mindless of whatever the boy's own concerns might be.
"Parents, huh?.." The holo-projected girl's eyes lingered on Gar as he explained. She blinked a bit dumbly, perhaps personally lacking any kind of analogue from her own world to draw upon. "They give you dough just like that?"
Gazimon froze up as Garret gripped her shoulder, looking to him with clear irritation on her face, although fortunately it likely doesn't translate perfectly from the doubtless rather feral glare that she would have delivered at being unexpectedly grabbed in her natural form. The human's words to follow, and perhaps moreover the man's continued gaze upon them seemed to quickly encouraged Gazimon to adapt, though. A beat followed, before she spoke up again, "Ehehe, sorry mister! Guess I just got a little carried away. I'll be sure not to wander off again... big brother~..." She accompanied the rather affectionate, familial delivery of those particular words with a dagger-sharp glare in his direction.
"Oh... Haha, it's no trouble, really," The man replied with an awkward chuckle, although the light smile on his weathered features was genuine. "What a responsible young man. Be sure that you and your sister get to school on time, alright?" He doesn't seem particularly interested in lingering in the moment's brief but awkward situation, just giving a small incline of his head before wandering off.
Gazimon grumbled and tried to pull free of Gar's grip on her shoulder, again having a little more trouble with the human boy's hold than expected.
