4 PM at Miyashita Park was usually around the time people started to pack their stuff up just to go home or go eat dinner. This was not the case for Mao. The girl had been parked at the same bench along the same path for the past half an hour, having been sent here on the premise of 'something nice' waiting for her there by the Andromon that had practically moved into her sister's apartment. So, Mao threw her usual on (with the exception of her jacket) and headed on over there. And waited.
And waited.
It was kind of strange, too, now that Mao had some quiet to think about this with. Why would Styx just suddenly ask her to head to the park? Sure, she could use some fresh air, the place was actually quite...pretty at this time of year--verdant greens all around, yet it was falling eerily more and more silent as people trickled out of the park. Not that it was that huge.
"...I'm gonna kick that tin can out if he's playing a prank on me." The girl arbitrarily decided as she stood up from where she was sitting. Mao hadn't been having the most pleasant of days, thanks to the spirits with her...well, not exactly allowing her to sleep. Or have some quiet. They were exceptionally rowdy today, although they had silenced themselves about ten minutes ago. Likely out of consideration for Mao after...quite a bit of arguing.
4:15. Would anything happen?

This was definitely one of those times when Tsu did not think this would take so long. Pike's healing had taken longer than expected and Ramma wanted to prepare everything for their arrival to their lab. After all, he was able to check remotely that some alarms had been triggered, which meant someone could have broken in. Because of this, he wanted to make sure everyone were in top conditions, including Pike.
Mitsuharu and the pink haired tamer had been training hard. They wanted to exceed their current power level because they knew the challenges incoming would be hard to face.
A couple of Digital World weeks had gone by, and the group was almost ready to depart. Alouette handed Tsukiko her digivice, which now had the software to open portals installed. The Sistermon had suggested she should try it before going to Terminus. Considering she could now go anywhere and the group needed around 3 or 4 days to be ready to depart (around 12 human world hours) where was she going to go?
It should be obvious, by now
"MAORUUUUUUUU!"
After running through the woods like a mighty Samurai, Tsukiko propelled herself by placing her foot over the bench Mao had just stood up front and jumped on her best friend in the world from her back, giving her a tight squeeze.
"You came!" once the hugging was over, the Ashikaga would drop a quick apology.
"Sorry if I'm late! I couldn't quite calibrate the thing and it dropped me in an alley like 5 blocks away from here."

Having remained in the real world for some time since her last adventure, Mao had forgotten the main thing separating the Digital World from the real one--time. Time worked differently between the two worlds, so what was merely a few hours here was a day over there. How was this important, one may ask?
Well, for one, it was a good explanation as to why what just happened to Mao...well, happened. Tsukiko Ashikaga had launched what amounted to a surprise attack on Mao, jumping right onto her back to the girl's astonishment, and nearly toppling her over! Mao let out a yelp as she had to support an entire human's worth of weight!
While Mao did seem like she was struggling to hold Tsukiko up, she did have a smile on her face at the very least. When Tsukiko finally relented and ended her hug, Mao turned towards the woman and immediately sprang forth to give -her- a hug! There wasn't any way in hell that she was getting off easy after that surprise!
"I didn't even know you were coming, Styx didn't say a thing. I-I'm happy to see you're doing great, though!" It'd probably be way better for Tsukiko if Mao let up considering she was hugging her -tight.- Hopefully she doesn't suffocate!

Having a best friend was... nice. It was really nice. A smile was drawn in Tsukiko's lips while Mao hugged her. She did not care much about suffocation, honestly. Seeing the orange-haired girl hugging her like that was adorable.
"Who'd say! Those robots know how to keep secrets." Now that she was out of board hell Mao's grasp, she stiffed a quiet laugh behind her hand. "I told him he could not tell you I was coming. Alouette helped me to get his D-Terminal information. Citizens in the Hardware Den have those because of security reasons. I think the rest of the guards are looking for him, though!" That might be an issue! The Andromon had just disappeared out of nowhere!
If Mao had stayed in the Human World, she probably would feel not long had happened since she saw Tsukiko. However, it had been a while for the pink-haired girl!
"How have you been? How is Vemmon doing?" She threw this last question while whispering. This had actually been the first time she had come to the Human World after knowing digimon, so everything felt like a secret that had to be kept. "I know I told you we would meet at Terminus, but... I just wanted to see you." A smile punctuated that sentence. "There are still some days left in the Digital World until we leave for Terminus, so you could say I came to get you to go there, but we still have some hours here before leaving."

Mao didn't really have words to describe the sheer elation she was feeling. Was this what seeing a friend was like? Likely. Mao lightened up on her hug after a few seconds, looking at Tsukiko with what might have been the biggest smile on her face the girl had...ever actually seen from her. It faded some for a time while she explained the semantics of the ruse. "So that's why he kept beating around the bush. All he did was tell me that I had to wait here no matter what."
That smile quickly returned to her face. "Well, he left a notice explaining his disappearance, so it's...not my problem!" The fact that Tsu had whispered to her didn't strike Mao as odd in the slightest. For even though they were alone, as Mao had found out? You never know what could be watching.
"Largely asleep since...I got back with Styx. And when he isn't asleep, he's been bickering with the...new spirit. Do any of your partners know what an 'Arkadimon' is?" Mao whispered back. "I can probably find out when we get going, though. Um...I'm going to try being as honest as I can, but I wasn't expecting you to come see me at all. Or...want to spend time with me before I went back. T-Thank you."
It did seem like Mao was about to hug Tsu again, but she relented. For now. "So, um...Do you have any plans for Terminus? How have you been? Is the clan recovering okay? I know everything kind of...put them through the wringer..."

It was likely Tsukiko had never seen Mao smiling this much. The sight delivered a warm feeling to the girl, making a smile draw itself slowly on her lips. "You look so cute when you smile!" Tsukiko squealed, taking both hands to her cheeks, completely marveled at Mao's adorableness.
Mao even looked cute even when she whispered!
But! She had also thrown a very interesting comment out there. "A new... spirit!?" Tsukiko blinked astonished. "Probably Kissu-Grandma knows what those are but... Wait! So you have two now? How does that even work?" That sounded like putting a new pet with the old one inside a very tiny room out of nowhere! Not a very good idea. "They are both.. living inside of you?" Tsukiko whispered more intensively as she cut the distance between the two of them, looking straight into Mao's eyes, standing on her tippy toes!
The pink-haired girl only stepped back when Mao mentioned something about she not expecting her. "Why wouldn't I want to spend time with you? You're my best friend in the whole world!" Did she want to hug Tsukiko? No need to worry, the shorter girl had her covered. In a quick motion, Tsukiko jumped towards Mao, wrapping her arms around her. "And I'm so glad to see you!"
Without letting go from that hug, she answered the questions. "We're going into that lab and we'll see what we find! Mitsuharu has been training, so I think he's ready for battle. I've been okay! Just very bored at the inn! And yes! I actually think Pike is ready to go, but Alouette wants to make sure he is fully recovered. And Ramma seems to be preparing something for Terminus, maybe an extra security measure?" Finally, she stepped back again, raising her gaze and looking rather pensive to punctuate this last sentence.
"I would ask about you but...! Maybe we should do that somewhere else! I don't know this part of Shibuya much, so I'm sure you have some place where you would like to take me, right?" Then, a predatory, full-of-teasing smile appeared on Tsukiko's face.
"Or... perhaps, you want to take me to your place right away? Maoru you're so passionate!"
What.

Indeed, the girl usually looked nervous or reserved, as far as Tsu could tell, which was a huge contrast to how overjoyed she was right now. Mao did let out a whine at her cheeks being (almost?) squeezed. C'mon, that was a bit embarrassing to her! Mao's inability to handle positive comments like that aside, she gave a nod towards Tsukiko.
"Yes, two...Essentially, they're bound to my D-Tector. And...yeah, they're both there. I can only really use one at a time, and they're separate entities, so...Maybe it wasn't the best idea in the world. The spirit's a little nicer than Vemmon is, though." In all honesty, Arcadia was a good kid.
...For an Arkadimon, at least.
Mao tensed up the literal moment Tsukiko pulled her into a hug, the shorter girl being faced with a tall, stiff board that probably was not expecting half of any of this today. All of that was good to hear, but Mao focused on Tsu's response to her last question. Was she...asking her to come up with something? Why her? C'moooon...W-Wait, what was that last part?
"I-I was thinking we could go get dinner or...um. I don't know, I've never taken someone anywhere before, especially not to my place. ...P-Plus, why would I do that on the first date? This isn't a dating sim or anything..." Mao trailed off, before she regained some focus. "So, um. Dinner. That. Do you want that?"

"You have to show the new spirit to me!" Tsukiko squealed elated, raising her tone of voice. Then, she showed an embarrassed expression, while she scratched one of her cheeks with her index finger. "P-Probably not here, though."
"Dinner sounds good! I..." Tsukiko interrupted herself upon hearing Mao's second part of that same sentence. "W-What?" Her eyes widening, she took a step or two back. "T-This is the date we were supposed to have!? NoNoNo! It can't be! I came right from the Digital World to get here on time! I didn't get to dress pretty!" Tsukiko was wearing her classic purple jacket and black leggings. "But... if not now... when, right? So... I suppose that's fine." She sighed. Okay, so this was a date. No helping it.
Slowly, she regained that smug expression. "How do you know what types of things happen in that kind of lewd games, Maoru?" She said, getting her face a lot closer to Mao's. "Tell me... have you been playing those?" The smugness was real on the pink haired's face. "Oh, god! My date is such a perv!" Tsukiko took both of her hands to her own cheeks this time, acting embarrassed. Why not tease Mao a little bit more? "But..." She made a pause, leaning closer to Mao to whisper in her ear very softly as if she were about to just bite it. "... What if that's how I like them?"
Suddenly...
"Aaaanyways! I like the idea of having dinner, where should we go? Do you know any good place around? After dinner I was thinking maybe I could stay at your place, considering we should be leaving for Terminus tomorrow morning!" She explained. "According to Alouette's calculations, three days must have gone by in the Digital World by then. I don't know if that works for you, though."

"She...probably would agree." That was all Mao had to offer on the subject of the new spirit. Arcadia wouldn't want to manifest herself in public, and so soon anyways. Nevermind that, however. Mao looked just as shocked as Tsu did. Was this supposed to be their date or not?
She certainly didn't know, she figured it was since they wanted to meet up before going to Terminus, right? Or...Or was she misremembering those chat logs? "I-I don't know, you already look pretty as is! I-If anything I should've cleaned myself up better!" ...Well. If it was meant to be a date? Then Mao was alright with it--so long as Tsu was there, she'd be fine. Wouldn't be any worse than the last time she went on a date.
Except it sure as heck was already far more embarrassing than that. "I...Uh...No...particular reason...?" Mao's face turned a beet red at Tsu's teasing, and she slowly started to look away from Tsu, right before she whispered in her ear. Wait, w-what?[/i] That...had honestly taken the girl by surprise. After a few more moments of silence from Mao, she took a deep breath. "Well, I recall you wanted to take me out for ice cream. So, dinner and ice cream. I don't...know if there's any place like that near here, but half of the fun should come from exploring Shibuya, right? I certainly know you're adventurous enough to agree, Tsu~"
Wait, was SHE trying to tease her now? "It does work for me, actually. If we get Styx out for the night, then we have the place to ourselves. So, what plan do you have to get the robot out of my sister and I's apartment, hmmm?"

"You really think so?" Her hands back in her own cheeks, Tsukiko smiled. "Thank you! I think you look adorable as always." She had said that already but... "... Hope you don't mind me saying that all the time!"
She did, however, snickered at the last part of the sentence. "Cleaned yourself up?" Mao was so funny!
A smug expression took over Tsukiko's face. "Are you suuuure?" She scooted closer to the orange-haired girl again. "I have never tried one of those games, maybe you could recommend one to me?" She remarked while she put her hands inside the pockets of her purple jacket and started walking down the avenue next to Miyashita Park. "Well, I am adventurous! ... But I'm also hungry! So it would be nice if at least you had some vestige of an idea about what type of place serves nice food around here. Then, we can look for an ice cream shop!"
Of course, Mao would have to do better than that, otherwise, the teasing would just bounce back at her. "Tell me, Maoru~..." Tsukiko slowly moved her hand behind Mao's ear, gently caressing the back of her neck and her hair while they walked. "... do you like me being adventurous?" She interrupted her own teasing to look at an establishment at their left while she listened to Mao's explanation.
"Em-pa-na-das-" She muttered, reading the sign at the entrance. The place seemed to have a lot of clients inside! An old man with a green sweater was preparing all of the food. What were empanadas? Tsukiko's blue eyes went to Mao to answer her question. "Hmmm..." She stopped for a moment to muse about the situation. "Maybe we could tell him we want him to leave so we can k-i-s-s." Again, one of those predatory smiles.
Then, Tsukiko glared again at the restaurant in front of them. Although it seemed like a fairly good place, there did not seem to be any ice cream shops around. Besides, she wanted to to see a place Mao recommended. "Nah..." She quickly discarded the empanadas restaurant and kept walking.
Sorry, Paul. Maybe another day.

"W-Well, yeah, why wouldn't I? You t-think I'm kidding?" She better not, Mao's compliments were 100% genuine. Most of the time. Now's one of those mosts, though. "Yes, cleaned myself up! Like...Put some makeup on, do my hair, stuff like that!" Mao puffed her cheeks out in embarrassment, briefly, before... Said embarrassment was amplified by Tsu. "A-ah, um...Yes, pretty sure. ...I-I can't just recommend one to you! I don't e-even know what you like, s-sheesh!" This was a very, very awkward situation for poor Mao, but she quickly took off after Tsukiko as the pink haired girl strolled down the avenue that lay next to the park. Mao took a pause at Tsu's question. Seriously, if her face stayed this red for long, Tsu'd probably knock her out. "Do you like me being adventurous? B-Because I sure as hell like it when you are..." Strangely, though...Tsu's hand felt kind of calming to her, for some reason. "What's...an empanada?" Mao inquired, before she fell silent for a second or two. THEN she perked up again! "While I-I'm not opposed to this...How in the hell are we going to do that? That guy's practically glued to the TV! A-And what if he comes back, too?" It was obvious that Mao had a lot of...concerns over this plan, if it could even be called one, but as they walked, she noticed a...single ice cream stand. One out this late in the afternoon? Well, she was sure going to check it out. Mao took Tsu by the hand and led her closer to the stand, which had a short, pink-haired girl (almost the exact same shade of pink as Tsukiko's hair, too) manning it all alone. With a ton of ice cream to choose from, too. The girl had been looking kind of bored, so her mood easily lifted at the prospect of customers. "Oh! Welcome to Coo-...Kukuru's Cool Stand! I'm Co-...Kukuru! What sort of ice cream do you want?"

Although Tsukiko would like to have an answer for every question Mao threw her way, she really did not have one for this one. What was an empanada?
"I really have no clue. It's actually hard to even pronounce that for me." She remarked while they walked away from the restaurant and went on to the next topic.
"I can be pretty persuasive you know? Maybe I can come up with some type of lie that will make him walk away. And if he decides to come back, is it really so bad a robot sees us kissing?" Probably, for someone who had almost no shame like Tsukiko, not really. But maybe for Mao, it was quite the big deal? "Don't worry, we'll think of something. The important thing is Maoru wants me to stay at her place!" She squealed the last part of this sentence and wrapped her arms around Mao's left arm. Of course, this did not last for long, considering her friend had dragged her to some ice cream stand!
"S-She looks like me..." The tamer muttered, her eyes widening up a bit. Seeing people with pink hair was not something she did every day! Besides, some other features of this girl like her skin or the shape of her eyes made her have a big resemblance with the Ashikaga!
Tsukiko couldn't help but snicker upon hearing that introduction. "Kukuru? That's a very funny name." Then, she gave a proper introduction of herself. "It's very nice to meet you, I'm Tsukiko." Then, her blue eyes shifted towards Mao for a moment. "This is Mao, she's my best friend."
That was important okay!?
"I'll take what you're having, Maoru. I really like ice cream but I don't have much of a preference besides lemon. But today is about trying new things right?" Tsukiko looked at her friend and gave her a tender smile. Gosh, loving a friend this much must be unhealthy.

The mysteries of whatever the hell an empanada was had to be left for another day, unfortunately. As great a mystery as it was...They had bigger fish to fry! "Of course it is! I-I'd probably faint! You don't want that, do you? Dragging me around like a limp noodle because Styx walked in?"
This subject was definitely far bigger a deal for Mao than it was for the shameless samurai that was Ashikaga Tsukiko. The girl even let out a squeak as Tsu wrapped her arms around Mao's left arm. What was that? Was it out of surprise or something? Nonetheless, the girl at the stand who's name was most certainly Kukuru, and who was not in fact actually Coolmon, Coolest Knight of the Rose, did indeed bear a sizable resemblance to Tsukiko. They could even be called younger sisters if one weren't wise enough to spot the few differences.
"No, it's the coolest name, trust me." Kukuru nodded sagely, which elicited a rather flat face from Mao. "Oooo...kay." She waved at the smaller pink-haired girl upon being introduced, though some part of her felt...warm at being called Tsukiko's best friend. Kukuru looked to Mao expectantly. "Well, what're you ordering?"
Mao actually needed to think about this for a moment. If today was about trying new things...? "Strawberry, please. Like her hair." Was that a smirk on Mao's face? Possibly. Kukuru then set about getting two cones of strawberry ice cream together with efficiency the likes of which had been almost inhuman.
Just who was this ice cream vendor? What was her purpose? Unanswered questions that would remain unanswered as Kukuru held out the two cones. "That'll beeee...162 yen each!" Mao turned to face Tsu, "I-I can pay, if you don't mind?" She did bring her wallet after all. What would Tsu respond with?

Even if Tsukiko was an only child, she would have loved to have a sister like this girl! She was super funny. The samurai giggled at her statement and then showed her a tender smile. “I’ll trust you.”
“Thank you. You’re good at this!” She stated as she took the two cones, handing one to Mao. “That was smart. Now I wish I had asked for orange ice cream.” Tsukiko let out a sigh, looking a bit disheveled, even if she seemed to be clearly overreacting on purpose. She quickly shook it off by shrugging. “Well, I can’t expect to compete with your romanticism.” With this, she slid her tongue over the ice cream placed over the cone. A smile quickly made its way to the shorter Ashikaga’s face.
“This is good!” While she issued that sentence, she naturally turned to face the vendor again. “Did you make these yourself?” Who knew! There were some ice-cream sellers who actually made ice cream!
About who was going to pay… “No way!” Immediately, Tsukiko slid her backpack forward and looked for her purse. “Well, I was the one who came up with the idea of having ice cream, so it should be me paying!” Although she seemed to speak very serious, she still showed a smile to Mao, not like she could do anything but smiling when she looked at her best friend ever!
After handing the money to Kururu, Tsukiko’s blue eyes drifted towards a bench not too far from the stand. Then, back to the pink-haired girl. “I wish we could hang with you a bit longer. We’ll probably come back here some other day, though.”
With this, she started moving through the sidewalk to get a seat at the bench she had spotted, hoping Mao followed her. Once they took a sit, Tsukiko scooted to sit very close to the orange-haired beauty, leaning her head on her shoulder while she kept licking her ice cream. She stopped for a second to glare at her own cone, to then look at Mao. Maybe they didn’t taste exactly the same? That wouldn’t make much sense but… the premise gave room for a question she had to ask.
“Tell me, would you like to get a taste of my strawberry, Maoru~?”

Kukuru nodded a few times as she handed the ice cream over. "Of course I am, I'm the coolest of the cool, the master of ice creaming." The girl stated, as though it were an irrefutable matter of fact that nobody could dispute. "That'd have been...um. Pretty awesome, actually." Mao replied towards Tsukiko, though...was it really that awesome?
She was actually shocked at Tsu's reaction to the ice cream! Was it truly that good? Mao needed to find out for herself at once. A flick of the tongue over the ice cream revealed that yes. This ice cream made by some complete stranger in the middle of the afternoon, was indeed, really fucking good.
"Hehehe...Of course it's good! 'Cause I made it with my own two hands!" Kukuru boasted proudly, putting her hands on her hips as though she were a Kamen Rider!
However, Mao and Tsu were preoccupied over who'd pay, so Mao didn't really notice. "Alright, if you say so. I call paying next, though! I-I mean it!" Mao -insisted- on this with a nervous smile. Would Tsu appreciate that? She had no way of finding out. Regardless, Kukuru took the money and nodded to them a final time. "Please do! Have a nice...uh. Date? I don't know?" She called after the departing girls.
Mao would follow Tsu through the sidewalk, keeping close to her side as they neared a bench the pink-haired woman had sighted as they left. She was licking away at her ice cream this entire time, even as she sat down. Tsu, on the other hand...was less focused on the ice cream. The woman proceeded to present Mao with not one but TWO dilemmas at once that she had never had to deal with in her entire 18 years of living.
One. She put her head on her shoulder. This prompted Mao to grow flustered once again....even as she leaned her head to cushion Tsu's some. It felt nice. Then came two. That question. That goddamn question.
What the hell did she MEAN BY THAT?! It caught Mao completely by surprise in that she nearly dropped her ice cream from the shock! "W-What do y-you m-m-mean b-by y-y-your s-s-strawberry...?" And in the span of a few seconds, Tsukiko Ashikaga had managed to reduce Mao Kita to a stuttering mess the likes of which was comparable to a particular short-stacked albino woman with a literal galaxy brain that Mao knew from a trip to the moon.
Oh dear.
