As soon as she felt Mao lean her head on hers, a smile formed around Tsukiko's lips. That felt... nice. Being that close to someone you enjoy spending time with, that is. Mao was the only friend she had had in years, and she was definitely not used to the feelings that came with a bond like this. Just like Mao did not seem to be used to someone saying that types of double-intended comments to her. Which honestly made sense.
After just watching (and enjoying) her friend stutter, Tsukiko giggled. "I'm talking about my ice-cream cone, you silly!" Of course, she was! Or... was she? "Why do you ask?" She then leaned forward, taking advantage of the very short distance between them to whisper in the orange-haired girl's ear. "Is there something else you'd like to taste, Maoru~?"
Whether she meant to go there from the beginning or not should be obvious for Mao, honestly. She already knew Tsukiko well enough to know what she wanted. Not like the pink-haired woman was trying to hide it or anything.
As leaving all of the teasings behind, Tsukiko would focus on her ice-cream cone. She did not want that to melt or anything! It was super good, after all. Above them, the sunset had begun to fall over Miyashita Park. What would the rest of the night have in store for them? Tsukiko could only wonder. The thought, filled with uncertainty, had brought the woman to stare at her dessert for a moment before her eyes drifted back to Mao. "Can I ask you something, Maoru?" She inquired, looking fairly curious. After sliding her tongue over the strawberry flavored piece, she finally issued her question. "Do you have a dream?" Maybe that was too vague? Or maybe it sounded too filled with fantasy?
Clearing her throat, Tsukiko tried to tweak the question a little bit. "Is there any goal you want to achieve? What gets you up in the morning each day?" The rest of that query had been made as Tsukiko stared into the sky that showed a perfect mixture of different colors now. Beautiful.

Being this close to someone was ultimately a rather esoteric experience for Mao. It wasn't one that she disliked but there was no denying that trying something like this felt...odd to her somehow. Even still? She felt like she shouldn't feel so flustered at everything her date said that she was probably going to faint if this kept up! "I-It just...sounded like something else..." Mao managed after a couple of seconds of silence (and awkward fidgeting on her end of things.)
Honestly, Tsukiko was something else. She opted not to answer that last question, trying to return to eating her strawberry ice cream in silence (no, not Tsu's strawberry) before the pink haired woman finally gave an inquiry that didn't make Mao want to fall over and squirm.
Did Mao Kita have a dream?
"I..." Mao began, staring down at what little of her ice cream was left already. "It's a silly dream, I'll admit, but...I wanna solve the mysteries in my life. The mysteries we've got on our hands. I wanna figure out why I was lead to these spirits, why I was lead to the Digital World. Though, if...If you want a more broad answer, I guess you could say I want to solve mysteries in general. Deduce the indeductible. See things people don't normally see." She finally glanced up to the sky to be greeted with a perfect maelstrom of color. An arm moved to wrap itself around Tsukiko's side to give her a hug.
"And I think the biggest part of my dream is solving all of this with my best friend."

As her best friend in the whole world ™ spoke, Tsukiko just listened closely, her eyes glimmering more and more with every word she issued. To think someone like Mao -who usually looked so shy and quiet- actually had so much to offer. She was full of hopes and dreams to achieve. Tsukiko had found her. She had not only found a companion. She had found a person with a thousand doors inside. Doors Tsukiko could open herself to every day discover a new side of a sweet, adorable girl that was just trying to figure this world out. Mao Magnificence at its fullest… and it was all hers. How did she show all of this she was thinking of? By wrapping both hands around the orange-haired girl after finishing her ice-cream, hugging Mao tightly. “And your best friend will be here to help you get to the bottom of all of everything.” She made a pause in her own reverie, starting to eat that cone made of cookie from the bottom, while she pondered about something else. “I think those totems Goyo’s family was looking for are somewhat related to your spirits or... at least to Vemmon. Now that I think about it... I also want to find out a lot more about that mysterious item Ramma and Pike’s dad was keeping and how it can destroy the Digital World. Since we were looking for Pike, we couldn’t think about that story Ramma told us too much but… The X-00 digimon do sound like something I need to learn more of…” Mao had been there, too. And she had heard the whole story. While she took a couple of bites more, a pause ensued these words. Was Tsukiko thinking of something? Suddenly, the pink-haired girl let go of Mao’s grasp and looked her in the eyes. “Maoru! Let’s do it together!” Her eyes were shining with the reflection of the sunset. A burning sun that only showed the fire inside of Tsukiko right now. “Let’s find out more about those totems and the X-00 digimon together, let’s travel together!” Was the samurai having a burst of excitement? Apparently. “And if those totems are not related to the past of your spirits, then we’ll keep looking! Our travels have to take us somewhere! As long as we…” Her eyes wide open as two plates, Tsukiko stopped talking. Was she having an idea? Oh, god. She was, wasn’t she? Slowly, a grin started to appear on her face. And then… she just let it out. “BECOME AN ASHIKAGA AND LET’S TRAVEL THE DIGITAL WORLD TOGETHER.”
There. She said it.

Some people were just full of secrets and mysteries that they would not just bare to anyone. Mao was among these people, and luckily for Tsukiko, she was just about the only person that the girl felt comfortable sharing any of this with. Otherwise? It felt too ridiculous to just SHARE. Much like the labyrinth of doors they had faced within Arcaria, there was an endless amount of figurative paths for Tsukiko to take to the maze that was Mao's heart.
Really, the ball was in her court. The ball had been in her court this whole time.
Mao let out a squeak as the unexpected (to her) happened in the form of Tsu reciprocating her hug. "Y-Yeah! Vemmon thought the same, too. He's...pretty sure someone took his data and split it into fifths. The remaining two are elsewhere, I think. Maybe they're connected with all of this?" This meaning the Digimon and that item. Perhaps something tied the three together somehow...
Mao needed to know. Tsu needed to know. Such was the logical conclusion to be drawn here. Mao could see the fire in Tsukiko's eyes as she stared into those wide plates. Yeah, she could FEEL the lady's excitement right now. She knew that Tsukiko was going to get an idea out of this. She just knew it, and when her suspicion was proven right?
She was STILL surprised.
"B-Become an Ashikaga? How? L-Like...um...Joining the clan? I don't know specifically what you mean..." She admitted, trailing off briefly before...
"But I'm open to the idea!"
...Success?

“Marry me!”
Wait. No. It didn’t work like that.
She probably should have thought that through before saying something out of nowhere like that, though.
Her mouth wrinkling, Tsukiko raised her gaze, looking rather pensive. “Okay since you’re not a digimon, actually changing your last name might involve a complicated procedure.” That wouldn’t work. “So I think all we have to do is make an oath. It's usually made with two cups of sake or blood.” Nope. “Let’s… rule out the blood thing for now.” She added with a smile.
Then, she kept explaining the concept. “From then on, you’ll identify yourself as Mao Ashikaga, and that’s how you’ll have to introduce yourself to everyone! Especially in the Digital World.” Of course, Mao would understand that, for legal purposes in the Human World, she should keep her real name, at least for things that involved some type of formality. Now, Tsukiko’s expression turned more serious. “Are you sure you would like to change your name forever? Once you’re an Ashikaga, don’t even think I’ll ever let you leave!”
Tsukiko didn’t even want Mao to leave her side! Much less her clan. “Mao Ashikaga.” She tried the name, looking at the sunset again. “How does that sound?” To close that question, she winked her eye at the beautiful orange-haired girl.
Without a doubt, Mao being the second human member in the Ashikaga Clan (after Tsukiko herself) would be the first step for many awesome things to come. But… would she be up for it?
“Y-You don’t have to decide that right now if you don’t feel ready.” The samurai explained, rubbing the back of her head. “We still need to have dinner, after all. And then~ I’ll stay at your place!” During this last sentence, Tsukiko caressed Mao’s cheek, giving her another very flirty look.
“Have you decided on where are we going to have dinner yet, Maoru?” While she spoke, she stared deeply into Mao's lips. Then, she bit her own.

Those two words were far from anything that Mao could expect whatsoever, and right when she was starting to get a handle on the kind of things Tsukiko would say, too! The girl's mouth hung a bit agape as her eyes widened. MARRY her? They weren't even an item or anything, how would that even be remotely close to plausible in any way?
Words were trying to escape Mao's mouth but she couldn't say anything, and she was really only...half paying attention to what Tsukiko had been explaining and proposing. She felt a little lightheaded, but she was able to repeat something to herself, albeit low as all hell. "Ashikaga Mao..." It had a nice ring to it, admittedly...
Mao ended up falling forth onto Tsu, for lack of any better method of description. She was limp and seemed VEEEERY unconscious. Of course, this wasn't without any spectators, either. Why? Because Kukuru saw the whole thing!
"HOLY SHIT! Is she okay? S-Should I call someone?"

Whenever Mao’s body decided to bring her back to consciousness -regardless of how much time that took her-, the orange-haired girl would find herself inside an indoor space. Most likely, it was already dark outside, and some of the lights inside were on. Her body was laying on a dark-blue couch. The fabric was soft, and a blanked was placed on her. It wouldn’t take her long to notice she was inside an apartment. A living room, to add certainty to that statement. A wooden table, paintings, and a single TV at the northeast side of that same couch. It was on, although it had been muted.
“You’re up!” Tsukiko’s voice would break the otherwise silent atmosphere. “… I was thinking about taking you to a doctor just now. I knew it wasn’t anything serious but… I was still a bit worried.” Her eyed shifted towards her digivice, lying right on top of her coffee table. “It’s a good thing that portal thing works in the human world too! I just had to look for the coordinates of my house on the internet and put it inside. I was surprised to see it worked, honestly.”
Okay, so that actually did a good job at explaining how she got there. “I was a bit nervous, ‘cause I didn’t want anyone besides that ice-cream vendor to notice you were unconscious, I know you would have been embarrassed if people saw you.”
Of course, getting her up there to the Ashikaga's apartment had also proved to be a difficult task. It was a good thing Tsukiko was a strong girl. Still, she could only cross fingers wishing nobody saw her carry an unconscious girl into her home, or someone was calling the police.
Maybe some of the potential questions Mao could have had been answered. However, there was one question Tsukiko needed an answer for.
“What… happened?” Much like when she heard Ramma’s story, Tsukiko had a sad expression on her face. Had she hurt her friend?
The pink-haired girl was sitting on the floor, right next to the couch. Her hair was a bit wet, and she had changed into more comfy clothes (a tank top and shorts). For how long had Mao been ‘sleeping’?

It was a long while before Mao would reawaken, but when she did, the girl was hit was a surprise in that she was no longer outdoors. She was at an apartment, on a rather comfy couch. It took a moment for this to register as she slowly sat up to be greeted with the siren song that was Tsukiko's voice. Was this her place?
...Huh, this was actually a really cozy spot to find herself in. Mao listened to Tsu's explanation towards how she got here, reaching over to grab her glasses and put them on so she wasn't entirely blind. "I...actually didn't know about that, that'll be useful for...um. Future investments." It really was an interesting thing to keep in mind.
On to other things, though. What had happened? That was something Mao needed to answer for, yes, but there was something she had to do first. The girl dropped down from her cozy spot on the couch to the floor with Tsu, and immediately moved to hug her. That should dispel that sad look on her face, right? "I-I'm really sorry about that, I...I don't know what came over me. I guess I...wasn't ready for half the stuff you told me? L-Like...Like marrying you? That caught me off guard. T-Thank you, though. For bringing me here, I mean.
You really are my best friend."

It was a good thing they were now at Tsukiko’s home, where the pink-haired samurai could squeal all she wanted. Why? Well, because she was doing exactly that right now!
Her chirp was loud and full of excitement and her arms warped around the orange-haired girl as she reciprocated that hug with all of her strength.
“OF COURSE I AM.”
She really liked Mao calling her ‘her best friend’. At this point, it should be obvious Tsukiko valued her bond with the glassed girl a lot. After all, she had suggested she became a member of the clan!
However, that suggestion had been accompanied by a little joke that might have been too much for her friend. “I… I was just kidding.” Tsukiko muttered, giving Mao some room to breathe. “I didn’t mean my joke to harm you. I’m sorry.” Again, she seemed a bit sad. “Are you sure you feel okay now? Should I be worried about this happening to you often?”
With that out of the way, Tsukiko’s blue eyes glared down at her own clothes. “Sorry. I couldn’t help but taking a shower and changing into something comfier.” Now, she looked at her own apartment. “I think I missed this place more than I could admit.” Then again, there was a reason why this was a problem!
“Having me change my clothes again to go out might feel like a drag now, right? I mean, I can still do it if you really want to have dinner outside but… We could just eat here? Most of the food I had got spoiled, but we could order some food.” Slowly, Tsukiko’s finger slid through Mao’s face, softly caressing her skin, to then be intertwined with her hair. “If you don’t mind the change of plans, of course. That would mean you’re staying in my place now.” Again, that same smile from before.

Okay, let's be perfectly honest right now, Mao had no idea what the noise Tsukiko made was, but she had to assume it was a good one since she had made similar sounds in the past for similar reasons. That bout of elation ended up causing Mao to put on a rather bright smile as Tsu embraced her.
...This felt nicer than she had anticipated. As she had been given room to breathe, that smile gave way to a rather somber expression. It didn't sit well with her that she (or rather, how she had reacted) was the cause of this in the slightest. "...I'm sorry too, I don't...think I should've taken that so hard. I-I'm fine now, though." Her eyes followed Tsu, and...she shook her head! "It's fine, you look great. I'll admit that I...kind of missed the human world a little more than I'd care to admit."
Moving on, this was by no means a drag at all. Mao certainly wasn't gonna make Tsu go change so they can go out again. Plus, the woman might have forgotten who she was talking to! "I'm okay with ordering food, but..." She trailed off, smiling as Tsukiko caressed her face. "I'd love to stay here for a bit. Especially with you." With that, Mao thought the next thing she did was -totally- appropriate. She leaned forward to plant a kiss on Tsukiko's cheek.
...Who was this alien, and what did they do with Mao Kita?

For some reason, Mao was able to make simple things, like a kiss on the cheek, something very special for Tsukiko. Maybe it was related to the fact she never saw it coming! Her eyes wide open, a faint blush could be seen forming around the pink-haired girl’s cheeks. “That’s good to know…” She managed, still looking a bit shocked.
“… I didn’t want to make you worried or anything! I’m okay, now that you’re okay.” It was probably for the best to make that clear, honestly. “Well… now that we’re here...” Her eyes wandered around their surroundings for a second or two. “...I guess… welcome to my apartment!” She showed another smile to Mao. “It hasn’t been that long since I left, so… it’s still pretty clean. I hope it’s not too ugly.” Then, those same blue irises trailed off towards Mao’s jacket, resting over the back of the couch. “I took off your jacket and shoes when I got you in here. So I guess it’s too late to tell you to make yourself comfortable.” She giggled.
Slowly, her hand scooted forward, to grab Mao’s. “I’d love to stay here with you too.” The pink-haired girl stated, hoisting herself up to go from the floor to sitting on the couch, inviting Mao to sit… next to her? With that flirty look, she might as well be suggesting her to sit on top of her! Slowly, she moved to actually lie on the piece of furniture.
It was a good thing the couch was pretty roomy, because Tsukiko could lie down on it and still leave room for Mao to lie next to her.

Tsukiko didn't see that coming whatsoever, which made what ensued next all the more...surprising for Mao. For once, she was the one making Tsukiko blush. Why was there this feeling of pride swelling within the girl? "O-Okay, that's good. I was admittedly a little worried I screwed something up or ruined the date, eheh..."
...Both of these were rather extreme assumptions to hold, truth be told. Mao glanced down to herself and noted her lack of shoes. Or her jacket. Well, it wasn't anything she really needed in the haven that was Tsukiko's place. "It's a really nice place. Not ugly in the slightest." Mao had honestly hoped that Tsu would take those words as truth. It really didn't look too bad for an apartment that was left unattended for a bit.
Mao then stood up soon after Tsukiko herself hoisted herself off of the floor and invited her to sit...somewhere on the couch? Judging from what Mao knew already, she could easily have just suggested to...y'know. Use HER as a seat. Which Mao was about eighty percent sure you weren't supposed to do in a girl you like's apartment. Yet, at the same time...
The girl went to take a seat on the shorter woman's lap. It was as sudden as it was (likely) entirely unprecedented. ESPECIALLY from Mao. Unfortunately, though, she did this right as Tsukiko went to lie across the couch. So, what once was a bold move was now doomed to be extremely awkward. At least in Mao's eyes. Who knows how Tsu would react to this mess.

“Eek!” Even further than Mao’s kiss on her cheek, the orange-haired girl trying to FREAKING SIT ON HER before she lay on the couch had been at least twice as unexpected! What was she planning on doing?
While it was true Tsukiko knew she could have caused this, she had figured her friend would disengage as soon as she started moving to go into a lying position.
Well, she didn’t. Naturally, Tsukiko wrapped her arms around Mao to avoid she fell to the floor, which resulted in the Ashikaga lying on the couch, facing up, and Mao lying down right on top of her!
“Are you okay?” The samurai asked, her arms still wrapped around Mao’s waist, while she looked deeply into those eyes. They were… kind of cute. Well… she would not be the one to tell her best friend she had to move. Mainly because it wasn’t like it bothered her to have such a cute girl on top of her, even if Mao was taller than her. “Maybe I should be the one lying on top of you.” She giggled. That would actually make more sense!
Then, she decided to offer a reply to Mao’s previous comment. “You didn’t ruin anything. I’m having a lot of fun.” Tsukiko laughed a bit louder. Well, the lack of sense of this whole situation they had just seen themselves involved into was certainly funny.
And yet still, she could not help but saying something else.
“When I’m with you… I feel like nothing can go wrong, Maoru.”
Instead of letting go, Tsukiko tightened her grip around the orange-haired girl’s waist.

How tragic it was for Tsukiko that Mao did not wish to disengage from her present course of action in the slightest. Luckily for Mao, her friend was by no means some sort of fiend that'd let her fall to the floor when she laid down. Exceeeept that...ended up making it so Mao was also lying on the couch.
The natural result of this was that Mao was now even closer to Tsukiko, and for the first time since she was brought into the apartment, Mao's face turned a rosy shade of pink. "I-I mean...I wouldn't mind that? But I w-wanted to do this instead." ...No, this wasn't part of any plan of yours at all, even if you DIDN'T have a plan in the first place, you dolt.
What really surprised Mao, though, was Tsukiko's reply to her comment. She was...having fun? Simple as those words were, they were like honey to Mao in that they managed to assuage her fears regarding this date. "It's...funny you should say that. I feel like nothing can go wrong whenever you're here. E-Especially right now..."
One of Mao's hands moved to cup Tsukiko's cheek, as she moved in for what might have been the single most unexpected thing she had done all night.
A kiss. Right on Tsukiko's lips.

Had she thought about this before?
The answer was yes.
She would be lying if she said the thought of kissing Mao had not crossed her head. It was also true that those thoughts had been quickly dismissed by herself, mainly because of how absurd the premise sounded to her. Even if she liked the 'game' of making her best friend get red like a tomato, she always assumed that was the natural reaction of someone shy when you flirted with them.
Nothing could be closer to the truth that the fact Tsukiko did not expect Mao had feelings for her.
But now it had happened. Her best friend's lips were over hers, and although she had kissed many people in the past, this time it was... very different. This was actually the first time Tsukiko was kissing someone she did not expect to kiss previously!
Well, if just remaining still with your eyes wide open could count as kissing.
The main issue here was that when you don't expect something to happen ever, you have not really stopped to think about how do you feel regarding that completely implausible event. However, with Mao being this close to her, the sensation of her soft lips brushing against hers, and the scent of the girl all over her body, it really did not take long for Tsukiko to realize she actually loved this.
And that was something that she knew very well.
She loved Mao. She loved everything that she represented. Had she ever stopped to think if these feelings were beyond of a best-friend-ever love and could go into the terrain of a significant other? No. But she could not see a reason why they couldn't, right now.
The most pleasant surprise? Tsukiko would realize that getting rid of these thoughts had been everything she needed. Before she noticed, her arms were tightening around Mao's waist and her lips were moving too.
Now they were kissing.
And now that Tsukiko was at it, taking control of this impromptu kiss, she would not let Mao separate. At least not for now.
