Link to mission posting "Honestly I wasn't expecting such a quick response from this group. Not because of anything exactly, but it's been a very busy week for some. I'm very proud to work with you all."Joseph padded off of the ship that had brought him, along with any others that wished to onto the dark area soil. They had landed far from an actual port to avoid the cultists prying eyes as the Squire had presumed that they'd have some scouts there. The black-guilimon-x looked about for a few moments before tapping onto his ear-piece. "The ship is in place, the terminus council guards will set up a little guard-post for up until the mission is in it's final leg then we'll move to the port proper for extraction."He had to be clear cut and professional under the watchful gaze of the autonomata that were currently starting to work on a few guard towers. One of them drilling in some supports with rapid speed. Most of their gear was well oiled and silent, they were some of the best of their class and would keep this place safe in case they needed to get out of here quicker. "A lot of the locals have taken to staying inside of the towns, so we won't be running into the normal bunch. If we do run into them they might be cultists, feral or lost. In the latter most case just point them towards where the main port is. If it's the former two well... get ready to fight."There was a small sigh and the black-guilimon shook his head again. One of the andromon's passing him by to set up a several chest high [to the somewhat lanky andromon's at least] walls so that in the case of a fight they'd have some appropriate cover for their tactics. It took them less than five minutes to set up some rather beefy looking watch towers one of which was equipped with a thermal scanner... "Just be careful though, we don't know how far the D-reaper may of spread or if the cultists were dumb enough to get corrupted themselves. Since posting the mission I don't think much has changed but... better safe than sorry."" SIR. THE TOWERS ARE SET UP. SHOULD WE SET UP ARTILLERY?" The robotic voice from one of the andromon's made the Black-Guilimon jolt and with a scowl the dragon like digimon shook his head. Waving the Andromon off for a moment. "We wouldn't be able to cover them and artillery would just alert them to where we're 'docked'. So no. Just... get the guards into position and make ready for a long haul."" YES SIR." The andromon would turn rather briskly to go relay the 'orders' he received; leaving joseph to his own thoughts. The small digimon shook his head and thoughtfully thumbed over one of the keys around his neck. "We're doing just fine... Don't you worry."

It seemed that every time they had come to the Dark Area, it was for the purpose of a mission. This time seemed to just...cement that fact for Ayaka Maeda and Coolmon. There had been a cultist issue that she and one of the other knights had been sent to deal with, and deal with was exactly what the agenda was.
"Do we have a general idea of what the cultists would look like compared to the locals? Like...any identifiers? Just so we can be on the lookout, of course." Coolmon nodded. Aya herself had one question. "Do we stick together upon entering or do we just split up?"

After much fussing with a certain orange cat[mon], Asher had managed to arrive alone for the mission. Despite Whisker's insistence of helpfulness and ability to 'protect' the spirit user, she really wasn't able to reach a level that Asher found safe enough for participation. It would be more of a pain than anything, if things went poorly, to have to keep an eye on someone who couldn't -- or, maybe just wouldn't? -- digivolve past Champion.
Either way, Asher was there, and Whiskers wasn't. Shame, she wouldn't be able to harass Coolmon for more smoothies!
It was no surprise that most options of who the group may run into would be hostile. The Dark Area wasn't really known for its friendly locale! But, the teen still wasn't entirely sure what to expect from the whole situation. The important questions were asked by the tamer-partner duo, leaving nothing really for Asher to ask. They'd figure out most things as they went, anyway.
"If it's dangerous," Asher began, "we should probably-" split up? "-stay together." Sigh.
Without knowing just how dangerous the cultists -- or even the ferals -- could be, it was probably better to try to stay within a relatively short distance of one another, wasn't it? Sure, it reduced the ability to be stealthy. But, wasn't there safety in numbers? He'd have to wait and see what everyone else thought of the suggestion. It wasn't like the teen would really complain, either way, as long as things went relatively smoothly!

Joseph turned his head as coolmon addressed him. Any general idea of what the cultists looked like? The guilimon brought a claw to his chin and rubbed at it before bringing out a little holographic projector in his palm. Giving it a click there would appear a single item floating in the space above the projector.
"These amulets. They vary member to member. This basic one is the ones to identify members. The members we're looking to acquire however..."
The guilimon clicked the projector again and the necklace changed to that of a very fancy, golden inlaid, chrome chained amulet with a D-reaper like sigil at the center that rather hurt to look at.
"And... this is the leader amulets. Gaudy as hell and easy to spot from a mile away. I'm pretty sure that the D-reaper segment is actual D-reaper data somehow. Not sure, but I do know it glows red."
Joseph's ears flicked and he'd make a face at the question about splitting up.
"Team mission, stick with your partner. It's too bloody dangerous to go be heroic on your own."
The guilimon turned his head to look to asher, smiling up at the human before putting on a headpiece. He'd toss asher, coolmon and aya a small earpiece before sighing himself.
"Use these to check in or report anything strange. And if you do get split up you can use this to communicate with one another. If you really need help I will come and assist you but that'll put our extraction at risk just so you know."
It was pretty simple and the digimon looked about, so far no one had come near this place and the andromon's were practically statues, past the few walking the permiter with their arm gun things drawn.
"If combat gets too dicey I can also ask for some of these knuckleheads to come and help you if you want. They don't exactly uh... care too much."

A design that varied from member to member. Hm. One could come to expect a sort of uniformity from the cultists, but in the end it as up to their own perception skills to deduce who was a cultist and who was innocent. Their OWN targets, though...That elected a more surprised reaction from Coolmon!
"How the hell did they get THAT of all things?"
Aya nodded towards Joseph. Okay, so they needed to stick together. Good thing Asher was just one person, though. So, unlike the last time they were accompanied by people on something...They didn't need to cover too many people at the same time. Both tamer and partner caught the earpieces before slipping them on.
"Right, then. I suppose we should get going, then? Unless anyone has any more questions, of course." Aya glanced between Asher and Joseph.

So, the way to identify everyone was with... amulets. Hopefully, they wore them where people could easily see them! Otherwise, this was going to be a bit of a pain. Maybe even literally! Arms crossed, debating the likeliness that even the gaudy amulets would be easy to spot, depending on the target.
At least one thing was certain. They were staying together. Catching the earpiece, the teen turned it over in his hand, before putting it on. "I'm going to guess that digivolving isn't going to mess with the earpiece?" An important question, considering two participants would more than likely have to change shape at least once! Though, ideally, it wouldn't be something that happened too much. It was hard to say what would happen, all things considered! But, they were in a world full of shape-changing monsters, so surely that had been something that was already thought of. Hearing more of the options of saving them, in a bad situation, the redhead gave a shrug. "I'm sure we'll be fine." They had better be. He couldn't really speak for Ayaka and Coolmon, since he didn't really know them, but they wouldn't put themselves at risk if they didn't have confidence! Or. He would hope, at least.
Aside from that, once hearing Ayaka speak, Asher would give a nod. "I'm ready, if you both are." It would probably just be a waste of time, if they just stood around playing fifty questions! And, it would probably be easier to understand everything that was happening once they were already present in the mission itself. Or, it would make less sense. But, visuals always helped. Like, seeing one of those amulets in person, for instance!
For now, it seemed that they were just waiting to see if Joseph had anything left to say, before they were off!

"Honestly? I don't have a clue. But that does mean that they're no joke. Though that should be obvious by these knuckleheads being here..."
Joseph grumbled a bit and gently waved his hand at the andromon's walking the perimeter. They weren't interested in the trio in the slightest, though occasionally they did seem to check that joseph was still there. Like he was supposed to be or something...
"Well that's up to you three... I don't think I have anything else."
Joseph would frown a bit and simply shake his head. Then of course asher had a question. Regarding the earpieces no less! The guilimon-x mulled it through and giving a shrug he'd shift into one level higher, a growlmon-x of the same coloration. He'd check his own ear which had the earpiece still in place!
"Looks like the bands stretch a good bit. As long as one of you doesn't have a GraceNovamon or Examon in your back pocket you should be fine."
Another shrug and the Guilimon-x turned away from the group. Going back to a more central point where he could observe from a 'safe' distance. His job wasn't to do anything dangerous unless he needed to.
Of course, if the group decided to leave they'd find that the forest wasn't exactly the most booming in terms of individuals in it. Occasionally there could be a few bakemon or a napping champion in a tree from time to time but any real cultist presence? Not in the slightest...
Though the sensation of someone watching them was easy to feel, so much so it seemed almost downright mystical!

In all honesty, Coolmon had assumed that the Andromon patrolling around the perimeter were just standard fare for this group. As the tamer and her partner opted to put the earpieces on ASAP. "We'll keep the option in mind, thank you." Aya replied towards Joseph. "I'm...sure we'll be okay. Not much else to go over, is there?"
If allowed, the duo would indeed set out with Asher in tow into their destination. "Y'know, if there's a crisis in here, no wonder this place is a little empty..." Coolmon mused, before Aya added her own two cents in. "...And already I think there's a little more than just a cultist issue. Something just feels...off here."
She couldn't quite tell the feeling of being watched apart from mystical BS™, sadly. "Should we try seeing if we can learn anything from the locals? Or the champions...?" Coolmon mused, taking a look at the champions. What were they? Did they even seem sapient?

After a demonstration of stretchy earpieces, the teen seemed content enough with the answers to be ready to go. Soon, he'd begin to follow the Coolmon and tamer to... whereever it was that they were going! For a while, the redhead simply listened to the opinions of the other two. Was there more to it, than just cultists? He didn't know enough to have an answer for that!
As for his level of denseness to mystical BS™, Asher found the feeling to be a bit concerning. Or, really, one of his spirits did. If he had it his way, he'd have no idea that there was potentially someone watching! Or, something? More likely, nothing. "We could try a champion," the teen finally joined into the conversation.
Though, it seemed like they were sleeping? Maybe, it would agitate them if they were awoken by some random people. "I don't think I've seen any that are awake, though," he added, slowly. The last thing they needed was to poke at a feral 'mon that had just settled in for a nap!
But, for the time being, it didn't seem like they had many other choices. It was either approach someone and hope they weren't angry, or wander around without any potential insight further than their debriefing!
Maybe they'd get lucky, and find someone who looked a little more awake. Or, someone who was actually friendly! That felt like it might be a lot to ask for, though!

"Not really honestly. Just be safe out there!"
Joseph gave the both of them a small nod before waving them off. The rookie seemed content for the moment to at least join in with the patrolling Andromon's for the most part. Else there was jack all for him to do around here! It was pretty much a dead zone for the moment and they might of drawn even more attention in by landing in an odd spot.
Now the champions?
There were a few options, an ogremon resting in the lowest portion of the branches of a tree. Seeming rather content and having both of his eyes closed. Though he seemed to be lacking a club that was rather stereo-typical of his kind.
There were a pair of bakemon's that weren't really moving, indicating they were either resting or just... avoiding doing much with the lack of food or something. It wasn't exactly clear. But they seemed to be avoiding making eye contact with anyone from the group.
The last champion was a sangloupmon, it was resting underneath one of the many trees. It's bladed head inched slightly when the group made it's way nearby. It didn't have any interest in them, it wasn't hungry and they looked too strong for it to really consider loading them. Giving a small shrug of it's large shoulders the digimon yawned and stood up, it's accent was rather thick considering it had to talk through both fang and faceblades...
"Awake? Thinkin it's ah good idea to sleep roun' here? Tchcheche...Bleedin cults an' thair saviors..."

They really had an odd lot to pick from. A Ogremon lacking a club. Some sleeping ghosts. And a vampiric wolf that was also the only one that was awake. Or even speaking, for that matter. Coolmon wandered some his way. "Diiid...you say something about cults? As in plural?" Aya, of course, had to actually try keeping up with the Cutemon as she made her way to make some inquiries. Oh dear. Once she had caught up?
"S-Sorry about my partner, she's a bit too inquisitive for her own good!" Aya was a bit hasty to say that, but it didn't matter, Coolmon still had asked that Sangloupmon a question, and she was hopefully awaiting an answer without getting sawn to bits.

While Sangloupmon probably wouldn't have been Asher's first choice, the fact that it was already addressing them made things much easier to start a conversation with it, rather than anyone else! And, Coolmon was already on the move to speak with the stranger! Maybe it was his imagination, but it seemed like Ayaka was a bit more uneasy about her partner quizzing Sangloupmon.
Pointy blades aside, the Sangloupmon didn't really look like it intended on posing a threat to them. Either way, the redhead casually stuffed his hand in the pocket that held his own digivice. Probably better to be safe, rather than sorry. Stopping to stand alongside the tamer, Asher debated if any inquiries would really do them any good. Were there multiple cults? One could hope not. But, the wolf seemed to be aware that they existed. Surely, not a surprise.
"Are cults a big problem around here?" The teen questioned, while taking a glance around at the Ogremon and the Bakemons. Why were the Bakemon's avoiding eye contact? Curious. Either way, the focus was on the canine-mon instead, for the time being. Though, how much information they'd really get from him was uncertain.
With any luck, the champion would be the chatty type. So far, he seemed to be the most talkative out of everyone else in the area!

"Yeh! Plural, like. Multiple cults! Always been a bleedin problem... Tchcheche... Though most of em stay to their own; don't like strangers washin up n putting them down."
The sangloupmon shrugged it's shoulders, taking a seat. It looked mostly bored as though this wasn't really anything new. Cults came and went, it always got to see the fall out and if it was lucky it'd be able to bite into a few necks here or there.
"Bad trait to have round here! Not everyone is as friendly as I am!"
The sangloupmon puffed out it's chest and then blinked a bit as the human approached them. Two humans and one mon? That was rather dangerous wasn't it? The wolf tilted it's head as it noted that the human put it's hands in it's pocket. Probably a spirit wielder? The wolf didn't like the idea of having to fight multiple people if it decided to attack. So it simply wouldn't.
"Not so much a problem yah see as just a social norm. They come n go! A lot actually, cept there's this wierd one that's been around for a few months longer than most."
The wolf huffed a bit in irritation, they made the place rather dangerous to hunt and sure the chatty wolf didn't really have much to say in regards to that. They didn't need to know he ate people to live after all!
"Why you fixin to join em like the rest of the knuckleheads around here? Been a popular choice ever since they got their 'ands on those bleedin pendants."

"Sheesh, that's a bummer. What makes this place Cult City™ anywho?" Coolmon continued adding onto the questions with Asher, not seeming to want to quiet down anytime soon. Thankfully, the Sangloupmon with an accent most thick was able to start clarifying things without much trouble that...wasn't the accent.
Aya blinked, however. How was being inquisitive bad? What could POSSIBLY be wrong with asking questions? Unless you started asking too...many of them. "Oh." She muttered to herself, quietly. This all sounded pretty screwed up to her, though. Cults being a recurring thing here was bad enough, but the fact this one's already a few months old?
Yikes.
"Pendants?" She repeated the Sangloupmon's final word. "...Sounds like they got a really tough bargaining chip."

At least the conversation seemed successful thus far. As far as Asher could tell, it didn't have any intent on trying to eat them. Not even the little bunny that was leading the way! Maybe, it was smarter than its accent might let on. "I'm guessing they're pretty strong, if they're outliving their competition?" Or, they were just smarter. How smart were cultists, anyway?
One had to wonder what half of the cults around here were even about.
Unlike Ayaka-the-Worrier, Asher wasn't going to think too hard about the time that the cult had to build an actual foundation. Some things were better to learn as they went! And, not to worry needlessly on when they had too few facts. If only Ayaka had voiced any of her thoughts, maybe Asher could help settle them! Or, worsen them. Sometimes it was hard to actually be helpful. Though, between a chatty wolf and an inquisitive bunny, maybe someone would have the power to make the girl be a little less tense.
Either way, Asher mostly let Coolmon do the talking. This time, he only gave a small question, partially in the form of an answer to the wolf's inquiry, "I don't know. I don't really get into flashy jewelry. Do the pendants even do anything?" Would Sangloupmon know, if it did? From what Asher knew right now, it seemed to just be a status symbol. But, depending on the people (or, the 'mon), status was everything. So, he supposed he could see the appeal for those individuals. "Or, do they just make the person wearing it feel popular?" For some reason, he felt like Sangloupmon wasn't too interested in being in the cult. Making a joke like that surely wouldn't upset the wolf, right?
Any response would probably give him a pretty good read on the Champion, anyway, to determine if the wolf was more interested in participating in the cult's activities than he was letting on.
