What's In a Premonition? [Mae]

Uh... huh.
Sour was one way to put it. At that note, Syre gave a sigh, briefly pinching her sinus. "Hearing that it can be that bad only makes me wonder what my sister might go through. I mean, she's a nice, friendly cat to everyone at the Library and a competent team member and all that but to those that don't know her... tch..." Syre shook her head. "I just hope that Holly can get that some people just don't understand."
A somber thought, but the conversation spun back around to the Keramon. Her ear flicked at the remark about Luminas, but she gave a nod to Mae otherwise. "Mhm, we should! Its nice when we're doing this and not worrying about being caught by rampaging crystal monsters or anything... though, um," Syre blinked, "I was glad you had my back, then, too. After seeing that kid I just about lost it..."

"...I've informed Holly about those possibilities. Numerous times. If anything, I hope she at least can avoid having to go through what I went through..." It was true. Some people did not wish to understand. Some people could not understand the plight of the Meicoomon in the first place. It's not like they all wanted to be that way, right?
"Yeah. This...I prefer this a million times more than the crystal problem. I saw that kid in a vision too, I just...didn't know what to make of it. I figured he was partnered to one of them, but I wasn't expecting it to be the king..." Mae blinked. "...Why wouldn't I have a friend's back? Though, um...How come you lost it? That's what I'm curious about. Was it the fact a child--a tamer at that was present in the crossfire?"

"Heh... that's good." Syre managed a small smile, finishing that last bit of ice cream as she shook her head. "Holly is... well, you know her, a bit naive. I worry that she wouldn't exactly understand why people would be mean to her just for what she is, rather than who." And that, honestly, was a rather sad fact.
Sad enough that talking about the crystal mission was a preferable topic! Syre's ear flicked in interest as Mae mentioned that she saw the child in one of her visions - but it was hard to tell exactly what role he played. "Hm... I wonder if there's a way to narrow it down? Its hard to tell how 'exact' the future is, I guess." But then came that next question. How did Syre lose it? The cat bit her lip.
"... I... I guess I thought everything would just go according to plan. You know, we'd go in, we'd fight the crystal monsters and get out. Up until then, I had an answer for everything - but then I saw that kid." She paused. "Someone so desperately clinging to his partner - and completely unaffected by the crystal. His view was so innocent, and the forest accepted it. Despite it being so hostile to all the Digimon around them, I... I couldn't help but think that what we were going to do was going to hurt that kid."
"And at that point," Syre sighed, "basically whatever I'd do next would be wrong, one way or the other. No matter what, someone innocent would suffer."

"Well...I don't think she'd be able to understand it at first, but if she's given time..." ...Yeah. This got a bit too sad for Mae. Part of why she was thankful that that crystal kerfluffle came up to drown out this subject.
It was unfortunate but even the best laid plans had ways to go awry, and the child certainly threw a wrench in the plan they had enacted to deal with the crystalline plague. It was interesting how the tamer seemed unaffected by the whole thing, though. Maybe not because of the forest, but because of that 'light' that tamers always bore?
"...I guess that's fair. I wasn't sure if the child would be harmed by our actions, but we did need to adjust the plan to account for this. I...don't know how that kid's doing now, though. Or how the Magnamon is faring, either...Think they're doing okay?" What was Chalice's current status...?

"You weren't certain either?" Syre gave a smile, leaning back against the bench, looking up to the sky. "You felt the same thought go through your head, but you didn't hesitate. You stayed right on track... you're very brave, you know?"
The BlackGatomon gave a smile, and sat up straighter, stretching out her arms. "I'd like to think the two of 'em are doing just fine, though I haven't looked into it much. With everything else that was going on, I really didn't have time to look back. Still, they're probably doing better than they would have been without us." That much was probably true, and at that, Syre tapped her claw at the side of the bench, mulling something over in her head.
"Heh. I wish I was a bit more like you."

"I wasn't. I just needed to keep moving and deal with the King. That turned out well, didn't it?" Thinking back on it, Syre was right. Mae barely ever hesitated during that mission despite the raging uncertainty she felt towards the whole thing. There was something comforting about the thought that the crystal king and the boy having been doing far better than one might imagine these days.
She did hope they didn't get caught up in any of the things that had occurred since that day. Neither of them deserved that. Though, what Syre had said next provoked Mae raising an eyebrow. Well, she -would- if she had them. Regardless, the Keramon tilted her head towards Syre.
"More like...me? How?" The Keramon appeared to be genuinely confused at this.

"Better than either of us could have reasonably hoped, really." Syre managed a shrug, shaking her head as she tried to put that mission out of her head again. Sure, they did good, but the entire ordeal wasn't something that the black cat was eager to revisit.
It was the next thing where the conversation took a bit of a turn. Mae didn't simply take the compliment without thought, even asking for Syre to explain - and it actually put Syre a bit on her back foot. Just what did she mean? "... Well... brave, direct, patient?" Somehow, it felt weird to give compliments like that, but it definitely wasn't the whole picture. Unable to really find her full thought, Syre gave an awkward scratch at the back of her head.
"But yeah, we should keep in touch more often. If you ever need my help or want me to tag along for a mission, just let me know... and, honestly, the same if you ever just want to hang out!"

Mae might or might not have felt that she may have accidentally put Syre on the spot with that. She didn't really think highly enough of herself to accept compliments directly. But, even with those simple three words, it seemed enough to get the Keramon to nod her head a few times. "Right..." One could call her brave, if not extremely reckless with the endeavors she had helped others accomplish.
"Then I'll offer the same. If you ever need a hand in anything, be it a mission or an emergency, just give me a call. No matter where, I'll answer." The Keramon took another pause. "...E-Even if it's just hanging out, too." One might get the continued impression that Mae was...not the best people person in the world. At least when it came to friends.

Well, yeah, it was a bit awkward for the both of them - but at least they got the jist of it?
Maybe that was enough. Mae returned that same gesture to Syre, the black cat giving a smile and bringing an arm to wrap around the Keramon's shoulder. "I'll try not to abuse the privilege too much, Mae." She teased, truly appreciative of everything. And to think this all started with Syre wanting to wing her head in!
Still. One thing still stuck out to her:
"But seriously, how's the cactus stuff?"

It was likely more awkward for Mae, all things considered. Her social ineptitude might have caused this to all start out as a cat trying to claw the snot out of her, but somehow she managed to get a better grasp on their friendship out of it. That had to hold some value, did it not?
"I don't suspect you're the kind of person to abuse those privileges in the first place..." The Keramon admitted. Did the teasing go over her head? Maybe. It was still kind of strange that a nice outing came from what might have been a rather tense situation. But, it really hadn't been the weirdest thing to happen in the Digital World, had it?
"It's fine, actually. Awfully sweet, but I can get used to it."
