The RyuRyu Bakery (CLOSED - FINISHED)

Rai stood outside his parent's bakery, opening up the front of the shop to let the aromas of all the fresh breads, pastries, cookies and other baked goods waft out into the street. He was already wearing a backpack that held his sleeping partner, Tsumemon, who had just gorged himself on all of Rai's spam mail. "RyuRyu Bakery is now open!" he called out to the crowd in a bland tone as if he didn't honestly care, but was telling everyone anyway. It was a popular bakery, so he didn't feel the need to try much.
His father however, called out to him from inside. "Say it with a bit more feeling!" feeling? Rai was horrible at feeling. He sighed and adopted the brightest expression he could fabricate and called out again as if this brought him joy and excitement and thus should bring others excitement as well! "RyuRyu Bakery is having a special on breakfast Danishes! Buy one get two free!" Rai's father had no such promotion, but now that he had advertised it people would surely come expecting it, and the old man would have to play along and back it up. Rai looked over his shoulder and gave his dad the most genuine-looking(and thus his most inwardly sarcastic) smile and thumbs-up.
Tsumemon for all the noise, stirred in his backpack, before settling again and presumably falling back to sleep. Rai gave a soft smirk to his backpack. Little Y2K didn't eat any human food, as he only ate data--and lots of it. Rai had to resort to making two other e-mail addresses just for the purpose of intentionally collecting mass amounts of spam mail to keep him fed. Rai couldn't help being fond of the ridiculous creature, which was --for him-- odd, since he usually maintained a state of apathy and emotional detachment from others, straying from any real social interactions. Maybe it was all just too absurd to not feel attached?
"Smell... digimon..." whispered the In-Training digimon in his sleep. Based on how often he said that, you'd think digimon were almost everywhere. But Rai had never identified another digimon in the crowd or causing havoc. Did they look like us? That was a semi-disturbing thought...

Haru's diet has for quite a while been... different. Digimon didn't quite have the nutritional needs that organic life needed, though they still very much needed the calories. Though she didn't exert much (or really any) energy due to having her form contained within this human-like facsimile of her original human-self, it did lead to a sort of freedom regarding what she could indulge on. Even through death, the girl's sweettooth had not changed... it beat the predatory diet of the two other minds dwelling in her core.
Hey, I swore off terrorizing the local wildlife specifically so you don't have to have the taste of bird in your mouth all the time the dry voice of Tawna resonated within the holosuit'd girl whom was patiently waiting in line with her laptop in its case. Within the girl's crowded conscious, Tawna was without a doubt the blue oni... compared to the vicious Hunter who was being eerily quiet.
Haru could sense though it was merely boredom. Her former killer had grown mostly annoyed at their current plight as a prisoner in the mind of their victim, but it was not like anyone was happy with their position here... but it was something they all were growing used to.
Nonetheless, Haru was here on a mission... she wanted something to freakin' eat. She was a somewhat common patron to the Ryuryu Bakery, partly since she always had a soft spot for local businesses. The 3 for 1 deal sounded way too good to be true... maybe they just were trying to get inventory out? Regardless, Haru was being patient with her turn... finally getting a chance to greet the owner. "Good morning! Business seems a bit more hectic than normal."
To humans, Haru might have just seemed like your typical young adult... but a certain Tsumemon might immediate be able to smell a catty and... vaguely corrupt scent from her.

Rai's father, Reiden Ryuichi, puts on his best face while honoring the three for one deal his son offered the crowd to his chagrin. "Good morning to you too! I hadn't been intending this sale to be honest, but once Rai shouted it out into the street I couldn't just tell everyone coming for it that it wasn't the case. Worse for business, than just going through with it. I did tell him to put more feeling into it, heh heh. I'll just pull this stunt out of his allowance."
Y2K smelled digimon, but didn't know enough about cats to identify it, but thought he smelled a virus. This roused him from his nap. "Bad Digimon...?" inquired the Tsumemon's voice from the backpack, rolling around, making it seem like there might be a cat in Rai's backpack.
Rai looked over his shoulder and whispered to his backpack, "Stop moving around..." warned Y2K to avoid attention. "What do you mean 'bad digimon' and why don't you sound certain?" he calmly quizzed his backpack, looking at the line of people. He hadn't heard his father mention his allowance over the distance and bustle of the people in-between them. He tried aiming his digivice around to see if it picked up anything. Unlikely, but worth a try he thought.
He slinked into the store and started 'scanning' (he had no idea what he was doing) the whole line.

So it seemed that the three for one deal was somewhat of a mistake... Not the kind of thing she supposed a business owner would like, but it was commendable for Mr. Ryuchi to honor it. Haru awkwardly smiled, showing she was at least sympathetic. "Ohhh... Well, I'll pay for the three like normal. Its the least I can do honestly." she sweetly spoke, briefly dwelling on the selection. "I'll probably get a cherry-flavor... and a..."
Cheese. B l o o d.
"Cheese and another cherry please." the girl ended up adding on (ignoring Hunter's rather... irritable request) as she quickly into her pocket and wallets for the yen needed... though she paused momentarily as she felt the all too familiar of being watched. Naturally, even under a holosuit she was still a Digimon... gifted with comparatively higher more attuned senses than humans when it came to other Digimon. At the same time however, sight only seemed to confirm to her no suspicious individuals were around her...
Just ignore it Haru. Its probably nothing Tawna reassured Haru internally... Despite being relegated to merely a DNA Digivolution partner to help keep Hunter in line, Tawna was more than happy to try and assist Haru in having something that was increasingly difficult for her nowadays... a normal life.
"Right, right." the goggle-wearing girl ended up commenting to herself outloud, briefly shaking her head as she soon handed Mr. Ryuchi the money. Clutching her forehead as if having a headache (three minds juggling a single body tended to do that), she couldn't help but draw her line of sight to the back... noticing the teenager with... was that a D-3? Could have also been just a phone or something, she was too far away to tell.
She opted to just not think about it. It was better that way.

Rai was deciding to take the blank screen on his D3 as a lack of--hold on. There was some weird static on the screen now... maybe there -was- a digimon. He tried to see if the static got weaker or stronger depending on what direction he pointed the digivice. ---Farther up the line? He began walking towards the counter with his digivice out like a dowsing rod. He thought he was getting warmer, the static getting worse as he began to walk parallel to the line.
Y2K managed to unzip the backpack from the inside, and out popped his antenna from the top. "Tick-tock, twelve o' clock!" sung the juvenile digimon, as a couple people stared at the antenna coming from the talking backpack. Rai continued forward oblivious to the fact his partner's antenna were sticking out of the back pocket, and hushed him again.
He stopped where he was just in ranged to receive a stern look from his father-- and instead looked at his digivice... After a point theres only so many levels of static you can tell from one another. he couldn't tell if he was on top of them, or if they had just started moving away.

For a moment, it really did felt like it was just a bit of paranoia... Haru disliked conflict, and unfortunately conflict and Digimon tended to go hand-in-hand in the Digital World. Frankly, Haru wouldn't have noticed anything had the squeaky voice of an In-Training not began singing aloud... she being among the couple customers who noticed the odd antenna peeking out of who was presumably Mr. Ryuichi's son's backpack.
... Ugh. Please don't get involved Haru." Tawna pleadingly asked, recognizing that all too familiar feeling Haru was giving off. It was increasingly clear now they had a newbie tamer on their hands (taking out a Digivice in public was not always the safest thing one could do these days), but against her former tamer's better judgement... curiosity seemed to be getting the better of them.
You're not even the least bit interested? Haru thought, dwelling what the best way of getting ahold of them would be. They clearly were occupied now, but she wanted to find out what their deal was. In the end, she decided to try a more backhand approach while she waiting on her danishes. "Mr. Ryuichi? I'm curious... do you guys have pets? Uhhh, I have a cat actually." she ended up awkwardly starting some small talk... though she was more directly keeping an eye on Rai now.

Reiden shook his head. "Nope, wouldn't be hygienic for a bakery. Pets, shed, tend to go wherever they want. I've been getting the feeling Rai is hiding something though."
Rai noticed the looks and the conversation and then looked over his shoulder to see the antenna. He unshouldered his pack and hastily stuffed the antennas back into his bag, zipping it shut. Crap. Last thing he needed was the questions. His digivice was still showing a screen of crackle-pop-fuzz and it was pointed straight at the woman speaking to his dad.
Rai watched as his father put the danishes in three separate paper bags with clear plastic on the top to see the goods in their goodness. Mr. Ryuichi then placed them in a small cardboard box and put a hand written label on them, smiling as he did so and rung up the total for three individual danishes to finish the transaction. "I sincerely hope you enjoy, and come back again soon!" smiled Mr.Ryuichi.
Rai was watching back, staring with his leaf-green eyes. Was this bad? She seemed like a normal customer... But the Digivice only did the static-y thing around digi-stuff. He was counting on Y2K being in a food coma, but they'd attracted too much attention. If this lady was dangerous it was his duty to at-least put forth an effort to stop her from doing... bad stuff? Not in his Bakery anyway. ...Parents Bakery... same difference.
Rai hovered his thumb near the 'evolution' tab on his Digivice before moving it away. Idiot! Bringing out Keramon would just make things a heap worse right now! His face remained almost unreadable however.

Haru nodded musingly; it made sense for there to be no pets around anyway, pretty much confirming to her that his son had a Digimon it seemed. "My lil' sis when we younger once got in trouble bringing in a stray dog, so I get where you are coming from." she ended up adding on as soon enough she was handed her food. "Thank you, have a good day!" she sweetly spoke before allowing the next person to come up, taking her food to one of the nearby tables outside of the bakery... beginning to nibble on one of the danishes while occasionally periodically looking through the window.
I thought you were going to go sneak in there like a numbskull Tawna snidely spoke... though quite seriously actually. Their forms were quite capable of covert infiltration actually, so it would have been child's play to just find a dark alley, un-holosuit, then just Brane Jump to the bakery's back.
I'm not the kinda person that trespasses just to say hi to someone Haru mused, though soon enough pulled her laptop case... taking out from its smaller flap her D-Terminal. A little dusty since the last time she used it, but it should still work perfectly well. She immediately began typing away at it, but it SHOULD still be able to broadcast text to local Digivices. Set to a low frequency, she hoped that her message would get to her intended target.
R u A tamer? it would read on a Digivice's screen.
God damn it, you've been going to college for how long? Babies could spell better Hunter hissed... her analytical and cold nature was irked by such primitive spelling, though Haru merely ignored it.
Clearly someone has never had an old cellphone before that could text she internally groaned... hoping she'd get a response in some way. In the meantime, she just nibbled on a cherry danish.

The static mostly cleared when the customer moved away to a table. Then it suddenly cleared entirely, revealing a... a text message? He could receive texts on this thing? Was he a Tamer? Second time he'd heard the term... first time was a hatchling Kuramon telling him he was the little guy's 'Tamer'. So he supposed he was one. He looked the way of the previous customer and drummed out some morse code on the counter, with drags on the metal edge for dashes.
[.. / --. ..- . ... ... / .. / .- -- ..--.. / --- -. .-.. -.-- / ... . -.-. --- -. -.. / - .. -- . / .... . .- .-. .. -. --. / - .... . / - . .-. -- .-.-.-] (I guess I am? Only second time hearing the term.)
While signing in her direction a similar message with his other hand, unsure which would be easier. Of course if she knew neither, this was pointless and possibly confusing. He went behind the counter and poured a black coffee into a paper up, before walking over to the customer at the table, nibbling danishes. "Complements of the house." he said in the most blasé tone, looking flatly at her as he did so. That said, he was definitely interested.

Morse code was not something that most people probably knew at the top of her head, but Haru was at least able to understand it... She had never taken the time to learn it back when she was human, but it just clicked with her now... much in the same vein programming languages did now. She gave a soft nod towards his direction, signifying that she got the message.
It seemed she got his attention... Good at the very least; if he WAS new (which it sounded like) then she wanted to at least give him a helping hand. "Thank you; always could use a pick-me-up." she politely thanked him as he offered her a complementary cup of coffee. She shut her D-Terminal as she swapped it out for her laptop, glancing at him. "I know you're probably busy, but do you have any hobbies? I work with computers a lot actually." she spoke, trying to make small talk while remaining appropriately vague. If he at least knew what Digimon were like, he'd get the hint.
She sipped the black drink... she actually didn't get much of a high from it, but the bitter taste went well with the danishes. "If you ever get the time, I'd like to talk to you. Whenever you're not busy." she idly spoke as she pulled out a pen from her case and a small sheet from a note booklet (filled with some notes from back in her time with the Digital Field Club). She quickly scribbled out a small note for him and passed it to him.
Let me know when you get off. I can meet you wherever, but Shibuya Train Terminal is a good, quiet place. I can answer your questions.
- A former Digimon tamer
It had a phone number on it too... hers specifically. Easy contact if he WAS interested.

He looked at the note with the same expression as before and nodded. "I also have a hobby with computers. I'm top of my computer science class, maybe a bit of an over-achiever..." he didn't sound like he was bragging, more like he was just blandly sharing information. "I'll use this. When I'm free." he said with a nod. "I hope you enjoy everything and come again soon!" he gave as the usual pleasantries to a customer, trying to sound brighter and less dead-inside for the sake of a friendly image. The inflection was jarringly convincing. He smiled a smile of indeterminable authenticity, and bowed before returning to work.
Later that afternoon...

Bullseye. Haru chuckled warmly as she nodded, happy to see that at least he seemed to trust her. Curisoity was always a good lure... and well, she needed him to trust her if he wanted her to help him. As Rai walked off, Haru went back to nibbling on her somewhat large breakfast...
Typical you Tawna dryly noted, a thought that Haru merely smiled at.
She supposed it WAS typical of her, wasn't it?
It has been a couple hours now... Haru though was fortunately not busy today. Frankly, she'd rather sacrifice some time to help a newbie than just leave them to their own devices... the human world was not as safe for Digidestined OR Digimon these days frankly. Oh well... wasn't like she had class today. Meant she could slam out some more code for her latest project. Being a Digimon DID kinda mean it was naturally easy for her... was it cheating taking human computer programming classes? Eh, debatable admittingly... but it wasn't like she was hurting anyone, right?
The girl was sitting on one of the benches inside the train station, working on her laptop while she kept an eye out for Rai... he should be getting here soon, right? Once he was here, they'd be able to slip into the Shibuya Trailmon Station and talk more privately.
So is the dumbass freshmeat suppose to be here soon or something? I'm literally dying just having to fuckin' wait here the Hunter hissed irritably... she was a analytical and generally no-nonsense individual who disliked wasting time. Were she in the gogglehead's position (and had even an ounce of care for what some human brats did with their fancy little domesticated Digimon), she'd have left like an hour ago.
Tough shit, demon. I'd think you'd be ecstatic at even the possibility of visiting the Digital World again Tawna barked back... She and Haru had not visited the Digital World for at least a few months now, though she just hoped that this wasn't a mistake Haru was making playing the good guy again.

Rai walked with his backpack on one shoulder into the station, looking bored as ever while scanning for the customer from this morning. He thankfully picked her out sitting on a bench, and made a b-line for her. "Sorry I'm late. Y2K got into some other person's computer and ate everything on it... so now our shop's free WiFi is down while they try to be sure everything is okay with it. It was a task getting him out without people noticing. Computers everywhere and all he sees is bento boxes..." he droned as if it really didn't concern him and was just a drag. "Should I sit down, or are we headed somewhere else?" he asked revealing some apparent interest. He wasn't used to socializing so he hoped he wasn't being hopelessly rude or something.
Tsumemon wasn't quite sure what he had done wrong, only that people had been very upset about something and somehow it he knew it was his fault. "Are you mad at me Rai?" asked the in-training innocently and with worry from the backpack.
Rai rolled his flat, uncannily calm gaze to his backpack. "Mad? Not really no. You probably don't even understand what you did, so whats the point?" he asked his pack dispassionately. He looked back to the woman expectantly.

Haru was pleased to see Mr. Ryuichi's son finally arrive… partly since it felt good she had not simply wasted her time waiting for someone who would not show up. Sounded though his partner was a handful though… eating all of a patron's computer's data has got to be a bit of a messy situation, and recognizing that it was a Tsumemon was enough to put Haru slightly more on guard as she powered off her laptop and put it away as a precaution. "Yeesh… my partner had weird cravings all the time too. She'd eat just about anything actually… birds, rats, rat poison. Took a while to kick her out of the habit." she idly added before standing up. "We're gonna head to a specific part of the terminal. Do you have your Digivice still? I'd hope so… You should never keep it out of sight."
Leading Rai to an area that was a bit off the beaten path (the crowds of the train terminal no longer in view)… there was what appeared to be a defunct ID card scanner by a locked door beyond some cones and "Do Not Enter" tape blocking off the path. "Eh don't worry. No one actually ever comes here besides people like us. Anyway, just scan your Digivice and it should open for us." she reassured him as she crossed over the tape.
As soon as the door was properly opened, Haru collected her thoughts and took a deep breath… figuring she'd try to get some of the more surprising crap out of the way. She still had to introduce herself after all, and frankly she didn't want to just lead him on to think she WAS actually human. "Oh, by the way… I'm Haru Toriya. I just wanna get this out of the way so there is no confusion and say I'm actually a Digimon. Used to be human too, but it's a long story… I just wanna help you by answering your questions." she spoke, sighing slightly as the path the doorway led to was shown to lead to what appeared to be a subterranean level of the train terminal.

Rai watched the person wisely put their bento box away before Tsumemon could say 'Itadakimaaaasu!'. Not that he ever did... "Rats and Rat Poison? And yeah I always keep it on my belt... my hoodie is just a size or two large on me, so it covers it up..." he lifted the oversized blue tracksuit jacket a bit and retrieved his D-3. "Here we go. One might not of thought of it before Tsumemon had been exposed, but the colors on the digivice seemed to have been picked straight off of a Diaboromon. The power button even reminded one of an eye. He proceeded to follow her where it seemed few strayed, making note of his surroundings at all times. Once they reached the taped off door, he listened to her explanation. He didn't seem to question crossing over the tape. "Just scan it like a security card?" he showed the screen of his digivice to the reader and watched lights shine between them, prompting the closed door to open. "Well thats neat." he said as flat toned as ever. He was ready to follow when the woman paused to apparently collect herself and dropped a bombshell. Well he suspected she was a digimon at first... but then she said she was a former trainer, and that had made more sense to him, despite all the other stuff. So the real deal was she's a tamer turned digimon? That thought carried anxiety. "First question... Am I going to turn into a digimon?" it wasn't certain to him now that it couldn't only be a matter of time. Well she did say it was a long story, and if that had been so straight forward--that it was some inevitable fate for tamers-- he thought she likely would have just said so.
