Taking a Bite out of the Wallet [Adrian]

A brisk breeze kept the heat of Whitewater City from being oppressive. It also brought the smell of salt and sun-warmed sand into the city proper. Combined with the cloudless sky over head it was a picturesque day in the Digital World's number one vacation spot.
Or at least, what a certain red head considered the best vacation spot.
Hiroyo had caught word of a certain hot dog vendor whose cart almost exclusively operated in a courtyard tucked amidst the skyscrapers of Whitewater's business district. The Shellmon who had told her about it had spoken of it as a well-kept local secret hotspot for some of the best questionably sourced hot dogs and toppings in the city. Intrigued by the tales of two-foot coney dogs, Hiroyo had been following directions down questionable back alleys far from the usual tourist-centric portions of the city.
Sadly certain 'mons just didn't appreciate the effort she was going through for food!
"This better be worth it." Roger groaned as he slumped over her shoulder, his head swaying slightly as she walked.. The Kunemon looked to be in danger of falling but a closer look would reveal he was very securely perched. Where his feet made contact he didn't move at all. A loud grumble rose from his midsection and Hiroyo stiffled a giggle.
"Cheer up! There's like, two 'mons ahead of us." She said, standing on tip toe to crane her neck around the Tyrannomon with a tie that was immediately ahead of her. It took some straining, but she could see the reflected flickering light of the Meramon who ran the food stall. Morgan had landed to the side and waited beside her, his eyes drawn to another human.
"Roger, Hiroyo, that human over there, do they appear familiar..?"

"I can't believe it's been months since we've last been here," Shoutmon exclaimed as he and his partner Adrian walked through the streets of Whitewater City. The city in its entirety reminded him of a more advanced beach city, cities like Los Angeles or Miami in the human world. And of course, it was a fantastically beautiful day out.
"Yeah, it seems like the last time we were here, we were searching for answers about Omni," Adrian replied, his goggles over his eyes to keep the sun from blinding him. He was wearing a nice red T-Shirt and blue jean shorts, as well as wearing blackish brown sandals... with no socks, of course. "Glad all that stuff is in the past."
"Yup! Wish we didn't have the Demon Lords or DATS to worry about though. We just cannot catch a break." After a bit more walking, Shoutmon's tummy started to rumble a little bit. "Ooh, I'm getting hungry. Let's stop somewhere for some grub."
"Sounds good to me... but where?" Adrian asked, rubbing his chin as he observed his surroundings. None of these places really seemed like restaurants. However, Adrian could overhear a conversation between a Betamon and a Sunflowmon. They were discussing about a hot dog vendor that apparently had the best hot dogs in the city. Raising an eyebrow, Adrian asked the two, "Excuse me, but do you know where this hot dog vendor is?"
The two Digimon looked at him, then at each other, before telling him where he could potentially find it. He thanked the two and he and Shoutmon ran off to try and find this vendor.
After a bit of searching, the two had finally found this supposed vendor, being run by a Meramon. There were two Digimon in line, followed by a human with two bug Digimon with her. She must've been a twin Tamer.
Wait a second... she looks familiar...
The two walked up behind the human girl, and he could tell that the flying bee Digimon next to her could recognize Adrian and Shoutmon as well. "Hey Adrian, I think that's one of the others that helped us take down a control spire," Shoutmon whispered to Adrian.
"That's where I recognize her from," Adrian whispered back, "but that was over a year ago. How do you remember this?"
"Good memory."

Staring was considered rude in a lot of places but Hiroyo and the bugs made no attempt to mask that that was exactly what they were doing as Adrian and Shoutmon approached the line. Luckily the line started moving so at least the three were not continuing to stare the entire time. They did all lean their heads together very conspiciously to whisper to each other.
"Okay so you're right, they are familiar but I just can't place where!" Hiroyo whispered, tapping her chin as she tried to dreg up the memory.
"Does it even matter? It's not like we're here for them." Roger complained, drawing a disapproving look from both Morgan and Hiroyo as he failed to even pretend to be keeping his voice down. Hiroyo shot Adrian and Shoutmon a long look and then at last the rusty gears of rememberance started churning.
"Oh! I think we met you back when we were dealing with that black pillar thing, yeah?" Hiroyo asked the two directly. SHe straightened up from the huddle and held out a hand as a similiar look of recognition bloomed in Morgan's eyes as well. "I apologize for the rudeness, with so much going on since then it took me a moment to place your face and we really only met once. I'm Hiroyo, how've you been?"
"Ah, you were one of the ones who focused on the Rhinomon while we weakened the tower." Morgan said, giving Shoutmon an approving nod. "I must admit the details of the encounter have been lost, much has changed since then. I am Morgan and this is my brother-" He gestured to Roger as a loud gurgle issued from the Kunemon's stomach.
"Hun-gry~" The Kunemon complained as he rearranged himself on Hiroyo's shoulder. "I could eat a dozen hot dogs right now!"

The partners had to admit, the staring coming from the human and her two Digimon was... kind of creepy and disturbing. They tried to pay no attention to it as they simply got into their place in the line... which happened to be behind said human and Digimon.
Great.
Thankfully things didn't stay this awkward as both parties remembered each other from an even that took place over a year ago. The human held out a hand towards Adrian, even apologizing for the rudeness. Adrian happily accepted the handshake. "It's fine, really. Shoutmon and I thought you guys looked familiar as well. Hiroyo, was it? My name is Adrian Boriker. Nice to properly meet you this time."
The flying bee Digimon then began to spoke up, revealing he did remember the two. Adrian held up his D-Arc watch. "Is it alright if I scan you two? I haven't seen your type of Digimon before or after the control spire event." If they said yes, Adrian would proceed to scan both brothers with an advanced scanner that would give Adrian information on the two of them.
The bee Digimon introduced himself as Morgan, but as soon as he was about to introduce his brother, the brother's stomach gurgled pretty loudly, causing both Adrian and Shoutmon to laugh lightly, sweatdropping anime-style.
"I'm starving, myself," Shoutmon told the bug Digimon as he rubbed his own stomach, "I bet I could eat TWO dozen hot dogs."

There was a sharp nod from Morgan to Adrian's quesetion. "You may, I appreciate the fact that you asked first."
"What, you two never heard a hungry digimon before?" Roger compalined, lifting his head to stare at the two. Or at least it looked like he was staring, his beak was pointed firmly in their direction and the stripes on his head seemed narrower than before. His expression seemed to lighten as Shoutmon made his claim. Roger's beak dropped open in a grin and he reared up on Hiroyo's shoulder, causing her to sway with the sudden weight shift before she got her balance back. "Two dozen? Is that all? If we don't starve to death before we reach the front I'll eat three dozen!"
"That sounds like a really gross exaggeration, Roger. Please don't eat my wallet down to nothing." Hiroyo said with a sigh. Her wallet was going to be hurting after this! She eyed Adrian's watch curiously and leaned forward to peek at the screen. "Is this your digivice? It looks really convient! I have to carry mine in my purse, how does the scanning work?"
Morgan stared at her for a moment then slapped a claw against his face. "I just realized we never explained that function to you, nor have we been using it at all."
"Mm, we probably should've scanned Tsukaimon in the woods, huh?" Hiroyo asked, tapping a finger on her chin and looking thoughtful. Her eyes shifted from her partner back up to Adrian. So tall! What was with her running into nothing but tall guys lately? At least they generally seemed to be nice. "What does it tell you when you scan a mon anyways?"

Adrian smiled when Morgan gave the human permission to scan the two of them. "Thank you," the human said with a nod before proceeding to scan them. After the scanning was complete, a holographic display would pop up and show off the information of both Digimon: Name: Kunemon Attribute: Virus Type: Larva Family: Nature Spirit
"A Larva Digimon which has lightning-patterns all over its body. As young insectoid Digimon are very unique beings among other Digimon. Although it is uncertain whether the lightning-patterns on the portion considered its face can are organs equivalent to eyes, because they change shape in in accordance with its emotions, it is said that they probably are eyes."
Attacks: Sticky Net, Poison Sting Name: FanBeemon Attribute: Virus Type: Insect Family: Wind Guardians
"An Insect Digimon that belongs to the mysterious "aerial, covert honey base, Royal Base". Although its daily life differs from that of other Insect Digimon, it is a strong, dedicated worker due to its personality being so cheerful."
Attacks: Aero Shot, Hachi Hachi Call As Adrian was studying the information given to him on screen, the Kunemon asked if they had never heard a hungry Digimon before, as if he was glaring at them. "Please I hear hungry Digimon all the time. Just look at the red dragon in front of me."
When the Kunemon remarked how he could eat three dozen hot dogs, Shoutmon perked up again. "Oh please! I can eat FOUR dozen hot dogs EASILY!"
"We are NOT buying four dozen hot dogs," Adrian made perfectly clear, much to Shoutmon's disappointment.
Hiroyo seemed interested in Adrian's Digivice. "This? This is the D-Arc. You can upgrade your Digivice to one at the mall in Terminus, although it is pretty pricey. And... have you never scanned a Digimon before?" Adrian's question was answered by Morgan doing some kind of facepalm, claiming he never told Hiroyo about that feature. Adrian looked bemused at the response... how do you not know about scanning?!
Nevertheless, Adrian continued further as he showed Hiroyo the results of his scan. "The basic scanner would really only tell you the Digimon's name and level. I upgraded mine to show all of this. Any of this seem accurate to your guys?"
Meanwhile, the line was still not moving. Shoutmon's stomach rumbled. "Ugh, my stomach is eating itself. How much longerrrrrrr?"

"We also are not buying five dozen hotdogs!" Hiroyo said, twisting her head about to give the Kunemon a pointed look before he could say anything. He huffed and pushed off her shoulder to snake his way down to the ground where he stretched.
"Well! Even if the humans want to limit our fun I'll still eat more than you or my name isn't Roger!" The Kunemon bragged.
"Well, its a good thing you know your name at least." Hiroyo mumbled distractedly as she went back to looking at the screen of Adrian's digivice. In response to his question she nodded and pointed at the screen, her fingers brushing the surface. "Yeah see, Hachi Hachi Call is when he summons bees! And the I've seen Sticky Net, I don't really get the Royal Base part unless-"
"Yeah, it's that." Morgan answered her questioning look. Hiroyo's mouth became a thin line for a moment then she flashed a smile to Adrian and straightened up.
Just in time for the digimon at the head of the line to take it and leave.
"There we go! You two won't have to wait much longer." She assured Roger and Shoutmon. She narrowed her eyes at the two and put her hands on her hips, growing serious. She waited until she had the attention of both 'mons before she started speaking, and seeing how she had planted herself closest to the next customer in line she was quick to get Roger's attention.
"Listen up! You can't have a competition where everything goes so we're going to lay down a couple rules! First one, it only counts if you eat the hot dog and the bun it comes with! The first to...ah, overeat and lose their lunch is immediately disqualified and the other wins!" She glanced over at Adrian with a grin and gestured toward him. "Can you think of any others you want to add?"

Thank god Hiroyo had beat everyone to the punch and explained that they weren't going to buy five dozen hot dogs, or six, or seven, or even barely ONE dozen. Of course Shoutmon was as disappointed about it was Roger was, but Adrian was pretty relieved. Still, Roger kept on challenging Shoutmon and vice versa to an eating contest.
"Oh, that's your name?" Shoutmon asked in a joking manner. "I thought it was 'Glllgrgrgrrr.'" He tried his best to mimic the sound a stomach would make with his mouth. "Ah well, you'll have to change it either way because I'm totally gonna beat you!"
Adrian showed Hiroyo the data that the scan had given Adrian, and she seemed to agree that all of it looked correct. There was a moment where she asked Morgan about this Royal Base thing, which confused Adrian. "Um, do you mind filling me in on what that means?"
Finally the line was moving up. The group would soon get their hot dogs in no time! However, Hiroyo got Shoutmon's and Roger's attention by announcing the rules to the eating contest. Adrian tensed up.
Hiroyo, what are you doing! Abort! Abort!
Adrian was signalling from behind Shoutmon and Roger to basically abort the whole idea. However it was likely that she wouldn't understand or simply not care. After hearing about the rules, Shoutmon nodded. "That seems fair! Hey, Morgan! Do you wanna compete as well? Or are you just a big Kokatorimon?"
In human terms, Shoutmon just called Morgan a chicken. Oh boy.

"Oh ah, that is uhm..." Hiroyo glanced at Morgan, her eyebrows raised. "Do you want to take this one?"
"It is probably best if I do." He turned to Adrian, his antenna twitching. "I presume you are aware digimon are collections of data. When a digimon grows that data is shaped along predetermined templates to an extent. For instance, Shoutmon is instantly recognizeable as a Shoutmon but might differ in various ways from another Shoutmon."
"I like to think of it like cupcakes!" Hiroyo clapped her hands together with a grin. "Like, you can have a cupcake that's chocolate or vanilla or maybe it has blueberries or strawberries, but they all fit into what your brain thinks a cupcake is!"
Morgan looked at her in suprise for a moment then nodded approval. "That is an approriate explanation. The Royal Base mention is part of the Fanbeemon template, as far as I am aware I have never been at a Royal Base, it may not even currently exist."
Morgan looked from Adrian to Shoutmon, his eyes narrowing slightly but it was with self-satisfaction rather than anger. "If you mean to say I have the composure and self-control of an Adult in my smaller forms then yes, I suppose that title is correct. Not that you would know anything either of those."
Hiroyo however, had immediately gone on to propose the food eating contest. At Adrian's desperate signalling she only smiled and waved, giving him a double thumbs up. "That's a yes? Excellent!"
"While I normally wouldn't turn down a sale, it is a bit rude assuming I've got all the stock needed without any notice." The lazy drawling voice came from the Meramon who had overheard the discussion and apparently interpreted Adrian's signalling. "I've got my regulars to think of and I know how a food eating contest can go. I'm putting a limit of twenty hotdogs for your group."
Hiroyo winced at the mention of rudeness then turned immediately to hurridly bow to Meramon. "I'm sorry! I was being a bit thoughtless, wasn't I?" She laughed nervously as she straightened up and rubbed the back of her head.
Roger puffed himself up and glared at the cart-tender. "What?! What kinda businessmon turns down an opportunity like this? A sale's a sale, isn't it? They can just go food elsewhere!"
The Meramon blew a lazy circle of smoke into the air before he leaned forward on his stall and looked decidedly unimpressed with the Kunemon's blustering. "Nope, that'd be bad for business."

Adrian listened intently to what Morgan had to say about a Digimon's data. Through the smarty pants talk, Adrian understood what he had to say very well. A Digimon's data would usually define their species, I.E. a Shoutmon or a FanBeemon, but they could have aspects that differentiate them from the tropes of their Digimon species. "Yeah, I get it. My friend has a Shoutmon partner that looks more like a dragon than a metallic dragon like mine. More organic looking, you know?"
When Hiroyo explained it further as being similar to cupcakes, Shoutmon's stomach growled again. The red dragon blushed as he rubbed his belly. "Oops... excuse me! That comparison to cupcakes made me even hungrier."
When Shoutmon asked Morgan if he wanted to join in, he called the FanBeemon a Kokatorimon in fun and jest. He was immediately met with a rude comment from Morgan when a simple "no thank you" would've been more than fine. Shoutmon didn't look happy at all. "You're such a buzzkill."
Adrian tried his best to let Hiroyo know that an eating contest would be a bad idea. However, she COMPLETELY misinterpreted his signals and gave him a double thumbs up. Adrian simply comically collapsed to the ground like anime characters did.
Thankfully the Meramon at the kiosk understood Adrian's signals and imposed a twenty hot dog limit on the group. Adrian let out a sigh of relief, although he tensed up when both Roger and Shoutmon got visibly pissed off. "That doesn't make any sense. You should have loads of hot dogs to sell!"
"We'll still take the twenty hot dogs, sir," Adrian said. "Maybe these two will be better behaved on a full stomach, right?"

"Well, if you really want twenty." Meramon said as he arched a brow. Hiroyo was confused on how he arched his brow whhen he was made entirely out of fire but it wasn't really the weirdest thing she'd seen in the digital world.
Not by a long shot.
After briefly mourning the idea of a foot-long hot dog (she didn't want to give Roger or Shoutmon any ideas or jack the price up too much) she began to seriously consider the logistics of twenty hot dogs. For a normal group of five that would be way to many. The most even way to split them would be four hot dogs per personn but she knew there was no way she was going to eat that many.
"Hey, I'm claiming two hot dogs." She looked at Shoutmon then Roger and grinned. She might be wearing a friendly expression but she knew she had to stay firm in the face of such ravenous hordes. "So don't inhale the entire plate! I'll pay for half of them, but if you eat mine I'll make you two work the whole price off!"
"WELL, you can try that but I doubt Adrian would make us do that, riiiight?" Roger wheedled. He tilted his head toward the tamer and gave him the Kunemon's very best puppy dog eyes...which considering he didn't actually have eyes just meant the stripes on his head widened a bit and he tilted his head a little. "I mean, its totally not fair that we're not getting a chance to compete!"
"Does eating food solely for the sake of competition not seem like a waste to you?" Morgan wondered. He was watching the Meramon place hotdogs on his grill and then hold his hand under the grill to heat them up. "I would think that eating for the sake of eating would be gluttony and nothing more."
"Pffst, s'not gluttony if you're really that hungry."

"Trust me; we'll want twenty," Adrian told the Meramon with a sigh as he looked over at his black hole of a Digimon, "I have no idea how you're even able to eat so much. Even for Digimon it doesn't seem natural."
"Well my main element is fire," Shoutmon said as he shrugged, a great big grin on his face, "Maybe I just burn it all away faster. Besides, I'm not the only Digimon in the Digital World with a big appetite. Roger over there is almost as bad as me!"
The distribution of the hot dogs then came in to play. Hiroyo said that she would claim two of them, and that got Adrian thinking how to distribute them. If Hiroyo got two, there would be eighteen left. Adrian could be described as a big eater to humans, but the most he was willing to eat was three. So that left five for each of the Digimon... well, maybe not Morgan, he didn't seem to be the big eater type.
"I think I'll take three, since I didn't really eat breakfast this morning. That leaves five for each of the Digimon, right? I know Shoutmon can eat way more than that, but I'm not sure about Morgan..." After saying that, Roger looked up at Adrian and tried to give him the puppy dog eyes. Adrian smirked. "No, I'm with her. Eat more than your share and you work off the entire price. Puppy dog eyes won't work on me... especially from Digimon with no traditional eyes in the first place."
As Meramon cooked the hot dogs, Morgan asked if an eating contest was really a great idea. He even went as far as to call them gluttons. "Roger's right; we're very hungry, so it isn't gluttony. Didn't you hear our tummies earlier? I guess you don't really want any hot dogs at all then, am I right, Roger?"

A thoughtful look crossed Morgan's face as he considered Shoutmon's earlier comment. He hovered in the air, one claw tappin at his beak while Hiroyo transferred payment from her Digivice to the Meramon's register.
"Hey, I just paid for all of them now and we can work out the payment split later, alright? It'll be easier on the line." She told Adrian with a small nod of her head to indicating the waiting customers behind them. Those waiting in line behind them didn't seem to be to perturbed by the group's order at least. "I'll grab the first ten hot dogs if you don't mind mister Meramon, I don't want to drop any."
With a nod of his head the Meramon acknowledged the request and set out two trays. He was quick to match buns with hot dogs and soon had two trays of ten hot dogs stack in rough triangles laid out.
When the first ten hot dogs were served up on a tray the red head was quick to pick it up and make her way to a table. She ahd to hold the tray out a considerable distance from herself to avoid both the food touching her clothing and Roger stealing any of it. "Morgan, help please?"
With a shake of his head Morgan broke himself out of his thoughts and collected napkins and bottles of ketchup and mustard from the stand to take over to the table. When Adrian and Shoutmon joined the table he would speak up again.
"I suppose I do owe the two of you a correction of my words. If a human were to eat twenty hot dogs it would be gluttony because they do not need that much in one sitting to function. However, we digimon are different." He paused, the thoughtful look still on his face as Hiroyo picked out Roger's plate and prepped the hot dogs by loading them up with ketchup, mustard, and relish on each, stopping when the Kunemon said 'when'.
"I know that look, that's the 'I've got a theory' look. So whatcha got on your mind?" Roger asked, his amusement obvious in his voice. He was seated on the same side of the table as Hiroyo, swaying side to side impatiently as he waited for her to finish prepping his food. IT was nice to have someone with hands to get him the good stuff but it still took too long!
"Consider you and Shoutmon call your elements from within. I manipulate what already exists when I call the wind or summon the bees, you two generate your attacks within yourself which means you use mroe energy. No wonder you have such large appetites." He trailed off again, the thoughtful look on his face.

Hiroyo had let Adrian know that she just paid for the hot dogs upfront, so they can split the difference later without halting the line. "Oh, that's actually a pretty good idea. I think I'll have enough to pay you back with. Here, let me help out." While Hiroyo grabbed a plate of ten hot dogs, Adrian would grab the other plate of ten hot dogs. Of course, he had to make sure that Roger didn't steal any from him as well.
"Alright, Shout, what do you want on your hot dog?" Adrian asked as he set the tray down on the table. "We have ketchup, mustard, relish... er, mayo, for some reason?"
"I'll take all of mine with everything on it," Shoutmon said, smirking as he put his hands behind his head.
"S-Seriously? Alright then..." Defeated, Adrian got to work on preparing five hot dogs for Shoutmon, each with every condiment available on them. As he was preparing them, he noticed the swaying that Roger was doing and just laughed. "You Digimon get way too excited over food. You're like me whenever the pizza guy arrives."
As the food was being prepared, Morgan shared a theory he had about why Shoutmon and Roger had the appetites that they did. According to the FanBeemon, Shoutmon and Roger generate their powers from within themselves, while Morgan can manipulate what is already there, like the wind and bees. The former two's attacks simply just generate more energy. "That... actually makes a lot of sense. It is super tiring to use my attacks after long battles."
"So, Hiroyo, tell me... how did you meet Roger and Morgan, anyways? It's always nice to hear how someone found out about Digimon and the Digital World."

Five hot dogs are placed in front of Roger. Five, beautifully cooked hot dogs with the marks of the grill where they were cooked but without any sign of char.
Five precious, perfect hot dogs with stripes of every single condiment -including the mayo- running along the top, spaced in such a way that the buns didn't touch and he could twist his head sideways and grab one firmly in his beak.
Then it was a simple matter of tilting his head back, opening his beak, and swallowing. It was a perfect operation in his opinion but there was a reason he had been given a side of the table to himself and both Morgan and Hiroyo would keep Shoutmon or Adrian from sitting there.
Not all of the condiments were staying in place.
"Ewww, knock it off Roger!" Hiroyo's face scrunched in disgust as she used a napkin to wipe a glob of mayo-y relish off one of her unadorned hot dogs. "Eat more neatly! Its not a race!"
Roger finished his first hot dog and smacked his beak and then leered at Hiroyo. "Oh c'mon, you're just jealous you have to chew."
"No one wants to eat the way you do, of that I am very confident." Morgan shuddered and turned his back on Roger to carefully portion more traditional toppings on his own meal. Hiroyo had divided the remaining five hotdogs between two plates and pushed the one with three in front of the Fanbeemon.
"Wait, he gets everything too?" Hiroyo asked. She lifted her head from her careful dotting of ketchup to give the red dragon's plate a quiet look of horror and then gave the dragon a pleading look. "Please, please eat neatly? I do not want any more mayo on my hotdog and that is not a sentence I ever thought I'd have to say."
"That's because you don't know anyone else with good taste!"
Hiroyo mock-shuddered then turned her attention to Adrian.
"How we met? Well, I actually inherited the digivice I have from a...friend. He turned out to be these guys' partner so when I came over I eventually ran into them in Terminus." She chuckled nervously. Roger and Morgan moved rather stiffly as Roger settled for shearing off bites of his hot dogs with his beak and Morgan put the finishing dollops of relish on his.
"It led to some, ah, tension to say the least! They thought I'd stolen it at first but we got things cleared up eventually. I actually met another partnered human and his digivice before coming over. They explained things to me before coming over with me. How about you two?"
