"Yes... it's all proven over and over again even in the smallest of thing... For example, not everyone can move away from Village of Beginning directly to the wild, or to Terminus. That's why Rosewood are made... to make Digimon adapt more before tossing them to other places out there." Mei concluded.
She also smiled on the conclusion that it's not worth it to make people suffer just so you can be happy. "Yes, that's the idea. Selfish altruism means it rejects certain form of absolute liberalism. Thus, it doesn't worth it if you're ruining other people's life, because it'll directly impact you... what do you think? Not a bad kind of mindset isn't it? As for where you should go, I think you should go on your own pace. You shouldn't rush thing, it's OK."
Making friends does indeed sounds very nice! "Yeah, you should make friends I think... if what we said here made you feel more confident, then that's all the best thing we want from this talk."
Malik's laugh made Mei even more glad that she meddled. "Is that so? Well then, hope that came true. Remember, tiny steps, and don't rush. Take your time, and show yourself little by little, along with learning what other people liked. I'm sure it'll be great!"
"Mei! It's time to check on the other babies!"
"Oh that's true isn't it? Well, sorry there Malik. We have to check on the babies... unless you want to come? Babies are more sensitive to emotions, really."

Rosewood...it was made for such a good reason. To be the bridge between early life in the Village of Beginnings and the start of a Digimon's journey into the outside world. It sounds like it was a really new place too...what did Digimon do before Rosewood? It must have been a strange, harsh world, though the more he thought about it, the less he actually wanted to think about it.
"...My own pace..." He muttered to himself. He didn't want to seem slow or be a burden to anyone. He wanted to go and learn about the world and what he could do for it...maybe also figure out how to defend himself should that ever be necessary, though he hoped that it wouldn't be. "You have...really helped me." He said, nodding to Mei "Never talked much...or at all...before today. Talking...with other people is fun..."
To make friends he would one day have to learn what other people enjoy. He enjoyed reading...so it just made sense that others enjoyed reading too, correct? Maybe he should talk to people in a library somewhere...maybe other people had different hobbies that he could become interested in too.
Suddenly the two Meis had to go check on the other babies. He hesitated at the offer to go with them, not entirely sure if the babies would appreciate his presence...but maybe this could be a good way to learn how to interact with others and make them happy. "I-I'll...t-try." he stuttered out as he stood up to follow them to check on the others. "W-what will I...have to do?"

"And by helping you I made my perspective grow too, so thank you, Malik," Mei replied with a smile. "Talking with other people is fun isn't it? Talking is communication. Communication is a process of trading ideas and voicing out your identity, or at least to me. Communicating is also a process to show yourself, and in a way, finding yourself if you're lost. I feel trading idea is very entertaining thing, and I like it a lot. Granted, I'm not exactly the most talkative person, really."
What to do? "Well, there are actually two different things that we do. First is we clean up the baby's cradle when they're out playing, but today we're not doing that. Instead, we're doing number two... mostly just reading stories to children... or give them something to play with. Usually I'll just the the book reading though. Ah, I also made stories on spot. Do you want to try reading fairytale book to the babies, Malik?"

He was a little puzzled as to how he helped Mei's perspective grow, though he admitted that talking with others was indeed fun. He wished he was better at it, though. Identity...something about that word lingered within Malik as he placed a hand to his chest. "...Myself...? I...do not really know...who myself is." As far as he was concerned, he had no life before the Village aside from these awful dreams and memories that crippled him in fear.
Suddenly he froze when he was asked if he wanted to read a book to the baby Digimon. It...would be a nice thing to do, wouldn't it? It would make them smile..? But...some of the other babies were scared of him before. He didn't want to make anyone upset or cry because he was scary. "M-m-m...me...? Why me...?" he flinched, looking genuinely nervous, his stone cold expression shifting ever so slightly. "T-they won't...they won't like it if it's me telling it...!"
He paced back and forth, hiding his eyes with his ears as he mumbled to himself. The concept of sitting down and reading for them shook him to his very core. What was he going to do? If he refused, the might be disappointed. If he did it, they might be scared.
Something inspired him. Old memories...his own worries...maybe...he sat down in front of the gathered children and did his best to give them a warm smile. To his surprise, they all cheerfully smiled and greeted him in turn. "Um...I...I'm Malik...and..." He gulped and thought about what to say.
"There...once was a Digimon who traveled the world to become strong. Really, super strong. He wanted to be strong to protect the happiness of all good Digimon and teach them how to be nice and friendly to everyone...and to be strong in their own little ways. The world is a scary place, he said...but that's why Digimon need to be friends to work together and make it less scary. As he became a stronger and stronger Digimon, an evil Digimon attacked him. The evil Digimon told him that trying to be everyone's friend was impossible and he should use his power to force people to listen, but the hero didn't agree. The hero wanted to see a Digital World where fighting was only done for fun and not hate, and the Digimon could live happily with each other forever. The two fought, and after a huge battle, the hero won and forgave the evil Digimon, who faded away, forgiven and allowed to become someone new...but the hero had to go. They say his data rose up to the moon, where he watches over all the good Digimon and gives them the courage to find their own way of being strong..."
He looked about nervously, tears brimming in his eyes. He didn't know where this story came from, but he managed to say "Um...t-the...end?"

"That's the thing. You don't have to know about yourself to communicate. Sometimes by talking to people you will have an understanding of what you want, of what you're actually feeling and such... discovering one's true self is an endless process. At the moment you might have no idea who you are, but that's fine... as you slowly defines yourself, you'll understand...
Remember, you think, therefore you exist. Those who doubted who they are will eventually find themselves, as long as they keep on walking and defining their likes and dislikes, interest and apathy, and many other things. You don't have to "know" yourself at this moment."
Perhaps Malik's nervousness was actually a boon? Some babies looks awkward, but a brave Tsunomon suddenly hopped forward and tapped him with his horn. "Why are you so jittery?"
Seeing that, some of the babies whispered among themselves, saying things how Malik isn't as creepy as they first thought, and some even giggled, saying how he's quite funny after all, and maybe his silence was some sort of stage fright after all... Soon, he suddenly got several more babies gathering around him, some giving him impression of the story. Some doesn't quite get it why fighting is bad, another agreed with him, another just plain curious where he got the story, and so on. The reception is mixed, but he managed to gather the attention of the babies.

Malik was frozen in place due to his nerves. His mind tried desperately to consider and accept the advice Mei was offering to him. To understand what he wants and what he feels. It seems like an impossible goal for someone like him. Could he really discover who he wanted to be? What did it really mean to define oneself?
He exists...it was that simple? He just exists simply because he is a living, thinking creature in a world full of fascinating, different beings? What made him stand out? He...didn't have to know right now? That was truly okay?
These questions pounded at his head, at least until the little Tsunomon poked at him. "Jittery...? Because I thought...you all didn't like me. I didn't know what I did wrong, so I stayed away so I would not bother you." He admitted. "I never...wanted to scare or hurt any of you...i-if I did I'm...so s-sorry...so very sorry." He bowed his head.
Soon he was surrounded by the baby Digimon, all bouncing and giving their opinions and questions. "U-uh...I...don't know where I got the story...it just came to me...a-and f-fighting can be done for fun...it's bad when you fight just to hurt others though..." He tried his hardest to explain, but deep down the attention was making him happier than he's ever been before. The mixed response made him feel...whole. He had his own opinions that not everyone would agree with or even really understand. The lesson was that it's okay.
He felt warm and happy that he managed to make friends with the Digimon here after feeling so lonely. A tiny smile showed on his face as he sat down with them, talking with them for a little while. Though with his Digivolution into a Rookie, he figured it was also time for him to figure out where to go from here. Maybe Mei would have an answer? He stood up and walked towards Mei "I'm...probably going to stay here for a while longer. But...if you know anywhere I could go when I decide to leave, I would...appreciate it."

The Tsunomon looked at Malik for a bit... then nodded as if he doesn't really deny that. "Right, we did felt sort of unease I think... 'hate' is probably too much though. I mean, what should we think when someone looks like they don't want to be approached? Even if we want to approach it felt like a bad idea you know?"
Children are sensitive, and while Malik too was a child and sensed unease, thus avoiding the rest, the rest too avoided him because that vibe... it's a crossed wire essentially. Lack of communication could bring this sort of problem after all.
"But who knows that what you're thinking. If that's what you're thinking and you're just shy then you should tell us sooner! Plus what is it with hurting us? Do you think you got special power or something? We're not that fragile!"
"Right right!"
Several sounds of agreement were raised, but they're friendly in nature. It's seem the babies really just are curious about this big guy after all. Many of them seem to come closer to Malik after. There are indeed some problems that can't be solved with just talking, but there are problems that only can be solved by talking. This is one of those. The babies seem to take more interest in him, and there are some that even asked him to tell them more stories. Seeing this, Mei smiled.
"...Let's see... Rosewood sounds good, but... if you want to see city where humans and Digimon lives together in harmony, then I suggest Ys. It's a city far in the north. It's cold, so please wear something warm. You can go there through Rosewood City. Board the blue Worm-type Trailmon. If you want a pleasant travel in less crowded situation, try using the Cerulean Liner. They're Grand Locomon, although the ticket is quite hefty...
That aside... Perhaps you might find part of your calling there? If you like to help the society, then... please by all means talk with the people there."
Mei also took a piece of paper and hand it to Malik. "Please contact me aytime if you need any help. I'll try my best to help you."

Miscommunication? Misunderstanding? That was all it was? They didn't hate him or anything. They just didn't know anything about him and his outward appearance was a little strange or even intimidating. "I-I'm sorry you ever felt that was a bad idea, everyone. I-it really means something that you're all explaining things now..." He said, looking a little embarrassed about the sudden influx of attention.
The idea that all of this headache could have been avoided if he just said something sooner made him feel really silly, but was glad it was something as simple as that. Though he admittedly was in a haze for the first few days of his life so he wasn't really able to form coherent sentences. He was barely able to talk just earlier today until Mei came around.
He let himself smile slightly as all the other Digimon started to get close and spend time with him. He looked over at Mei, listening to her suggestions "Rosewood...I heard some of the Digimon talking about that place...but I've never heard of Ys." It seemed he would have to stop by Rosewood first if he wanted to make it to Ys anyway. He didn't have the money for anything fancy. Or anything at all, for that matter, but he didn't mind. "A place where humans and Digimon live in harmony...? That sounds..really nice. I want to visit that place. If it's a place where I can learn things then...I definitely want to see it for myself."
He reached out and accepted the paper with Mei's contact information "T-thank you so much for everything..." He said to her. She had done so much in so little time, even if to her it didn't seem like that much. It meant the world to him. "I'll do everything I can to...learn all kinds of stuff and help people...you really helped me today..." he said, smiling. "I-I think I'll stay here for a little bit longer though, before leaving..."
