Chapter IV: The War of Terminus
Episode 8: War
Terminus was absolutely massive, in every sense the word could entail. Even with her mind still working to process all of the information they had come across in the last couple of days, Katherine was very much aware of that. Digimon (and humans, too!) walking everywhere, all types of stores, restaurants, machines, and a very city-like settlement was surrounding them now, all part of a metropolis that seemed to never sleep. Yet still… Katherine’s mind seemed to be somewhere else. Truth be told, since they met Goyi, three days ago, a waterfall of data she had no idea of had fallen on her. Let’s try to recap: Boru, Koru, and Roru, Jazz’s brothers, had left Rustport to look for Katherine and Jazz, as they promised. On their way there, the latter two of the trio of Psychemon had been kidnapped. Boru, along with a new group of friends, tried to save them, but the two other Psychemon got kidnapped while being kidnapped. Who re-kidnapped them? Well, that’s where it got very good. It wouldn’t take them long to come up with the conclusion it had been the Dark Army. Actually? It had happened inside Bastian’s warehouse, immediately after they met. Bastian's warehouse: “I’m good with faces, you know? And I’ve seen yours before.” Fei glared at Goyi. “Bo?”“What are you talking about, Feishi?” Boru, still in his Gururumon form, turned to see his master. Immediately, Fei slid something below her left glove, showing it to the Wanyamon. “This is you. Right in this picture.”“H-How did you get that, bo?”“Some guy who kidnapped Boru's brothers dropped it.”"Kidnapped!?"
Who was this Fei, then? Well, she was Boru’s master. She had trained and taken care of the Psychemon while they prepared to go to Terminus. Naturally, the two of them would find another of the digimon in that picture, when Katherine and the rest ported them back to the Dark Area: Bastian, the Ballistamon. As expected, now that he had the book he had been waiting for, the Ballistamon was able to decrypt the rest of the code that would allow them to enter the Dark Army’s fortress. During the couple of days it took him, Katherine and Jazz would tell Boru and Fei everything they had been through. Boru and Fei would do exactly the same with the whole group. It was a good thing Amelie let them stay at the Deeplane City Council’s settlement during that time too! This exchange would explain something that definitely raised some eyebrows: the radar. Deeplane City Council's settlement:
“So he was able to assimilate the data of my digivice with just seeing it.”Katherine stared at the radar, holding it in her right hand. “And then he created that gadget to track Jasso’s digivice. Lord Goddramon’s is honestly amazing.” Jazz added. “I can now tell why it was not able to track you for so long, though.” Fei stated, looking at her surroundings in the settlement. “If you say you spent nine days in the Human World, it means you were at least two months away from this world. When you came back, you entered the Dark Area. The instability of the data in this place might have blocked the signal from the radar.” While they talked, Boru’s eyes just went from Katherine to Jazz to Fei. “And even when we were not in the Dark Area, we were at places where the signal was probably weak like Nei’s illusion, Paradise Island or The Tyrant’s Labyrinth.” And now it was Katherine coming back with more deductions. This was like a clash of great minds put together for the Psychemon! “So… as soon as we spent enough time in an open place inside the Digital World where the radar could track us, you two were able to find us. This open place being Bastian's warehouse” Jazz added.
For anyone who felt those were too many things falling into place at once, try to multiply that for seven or eight! The encounter between Boru and the girls had made appear a bunch of pieces in the puzzle, and they had not still found out about everything this encounter had in store for them. In any case, the wait was over and the day had come. Tonight, their assault would begin. This was the day where they were entering the world’s most dangerous organization across the Digital World and would take back what was always theirs. Were they ready? It did not come to place to have such feeble thoughts right now. They had reunited their own army and they were throwing everything they had. If they weren’t ready right now, they probably would never be. Coming back to the radar Boru had, there was another item accompanying the device: a map. Right now, as they walked through Terminus, Fei was holding it in front of her face, occasionally stopping to look around. Bastian was helping her. The robot was wearing a coat and a hat, naturally, the most effective method of disguise. They should really go indoors soon, though; the Dark Army had probably a better way to track him down. “I really hope Lord Goddramon knows what he’s doing by pointing us in this direction.” Jazz noted, looking around. “We should do all of our planning inside the city, so we can ponder every possible factor.” Katherine, wearing her usual blue sweater and leggings, turned her head to Jazz. “If he gave that map to Boru so he gave it to us, it’s because he thinks there’s someone at that place who can really help us.” It did not make much sense to question Reiki at this point, honestly. “And he didn’t give you any clue of what we would find there, right?” The Chohakkaimon now turned at her brother. “Not really, boss. He said a friend of his lives there.” Boru answered. He was at his Psychemon form right now. No need to be a giant wolf around Terminus, even if he could change sizes. “Did he write this?” Bastian asked, pointing at the right upper part of the chart. “No, that was Titania. You guys will probably meet her soon.” Fei answered, still looking at the map and trying to get some feel of where they were. They were about to enter lower Terminus, no doubt. Were they actually close to their destination, though? For a moment, Jazz turned to look at Amelie, Akemi, and then Anzu. “Have you been at Terminus before? I think Anzu mentioned something about it when we were with Goyi…”Following suit, Katherine looked at her friends. “I know Amy has.”How did the two humans and the bean felt about the whole thing? Nervous? Confused? Excited, maybe? They had some time to find out about that while they looked for their destination.

The duo had never been to Terminus for the purpose of what they had been planning with these people for the past however many days in the Digital World. This was but a piece in a puzzle that was far too big for either of them to comprehend, but, as it stood, today was the day.
"As skeptical as I am of most holy digimon, this Lord of yours doesn't seem like the kind of person to give you bad information. After all, you're a good judge of character. So...I suppose we just need to trust in Goddramon." Anzu stated in response to Jazz.
"It makes sense--we can get a better grasp on what we need to plan around if we're within the area. So...Good call. Good job, too!" Akemi stated, with her usual award-winning (to some people) smile quickly gracing her face. The girl was clad in a coat and gloves alongside her usual blouse/skirt combo. And her hat. She couldn't dare to forget her hat. "It's like killing two birds with one stone in a way. We get a good place to plan while also going towards that map's destination. Though...How come you guys know someone named after the queen of fairies?" The girl posed that question to Fei, primarily.
"You're seriously questioning that when my name comes from Mesopotamian myths? Anyways, 'Kemi and I have been here before a few times. Never really stayed for long, though..." The bean snarked and then made note of that, trailing off at the last moment. Akemi was notably glancing around warily. It was a little difficult to tell how she was feeling about this whole thing, but it was a mixed bag to say the least.
What of the others, though? "...This place's way too huge for my liking..." Akemi found herself muttering.

Well, the plan was in motion now; there was no turning back, even if Amy seldom felt like that something like that was necessary; granted, she didn't know all the nuances of this plan, nor all the people and digimons that was supposed to be involved with it, but that was fine. Those were nothing but details in the grand scheme of things.
Sides, for once, the brunette wasn't here to be aware of things or to plan; this was somebody else's scheme, and she was just to play her role. Sure, she could adopt a more analytical approach if the situation demanded it, but at least for now and the foreseeable future, that didn't seem necessary.
Not to say, that too many cooks tended to spoil the broth more often than not. Anyway.
Around her were four of her most trusted friends and a number of people she knew in degrees that varied from 'somewhat' to 'literally who?', and while that was a situation that she wasn't a fan of, it probably would be a temporary arrangement in the best of cases. Either because this plan would be successful, or because more formal introductions would ensue in the future. In any case...
Right, the conversation at hand. It seemed like the beings over here were just a bit alien to the megalopolis that was Terminus; trusting them to get oriented was probably not the best idea. Maybe this was an opportunity to get more involved? It seemed like it!
"I've spent a good deal of my Digital World time living here. Wouldn't say I know the city like the palm of my hand, but I know it a fair bit. Benefits of my trade, I guess."
Being a journalist meant that if she wanted to be successful, she had to know the right people and be in the right places at the right time; her office had been here... for what felt like forever, honestly! At least until her eventual move to the Dark Area. She approached Fei, taking a glance to the map in the process "Maybe I can help you to navigate the city."

As the group walked through Terminus' streets, Katherine couldn’t help but stare at each of the members of this improvised coalition for more than a second or two. Each of them had their own merits to be here, and the bonds they had made had brought them to be here either out of pure necessity or just out of the goodwill to help their friend.
The later was the case of Amelie Saboro. Not only had she given Katherine and Jazz a place to live in the Digital World (in exchange for them being a part of her organization, the Deeplane City Council), but she had also played an important role through all of this. Even if, more often than not, she did not seem to be much aware of what was going on and only personated to kick butts. Could they really ask for something more? That was almost perfect.
Too much water had gone under the bridge between Amy and Katherine. They met at a race that had the Pearl Zoid Gem as a prize, where the blue-eyed saved Jasso’s live. She reprised the role of a heroine when Katherine appeared in her house, after having the four gems stolen by Luke. Then, she had actually gotten into the Dark Army’s channels and taken part on a mission for the group, only to know more about them. And, finally, she had played a critical role in Jazz and Anzu reaching their strongest form so far.
What about Akemi Amaya and Anzu, then? Well, they were, by far, the most involved duo in this whole scheme, after Katherine and Jazz themselves. While having a mercenary like Amy who was just there to help her friend no matter what was good, having someone who actually knew everything that was going on and was aware of every detail in this story was also a great thing to have. The Tsukaimon and her tamer understood everything that was going on just perfectly and had gotten a grasp of as much information as Katherine herself knew. That was of high value, considering this story was so complicated it could make anyone feel lost.
It all started at Paul’s empanadas restaurant back in Miyashita Park. Not long after they met, Akemi and Anzu already knew everything about the Zoid Gems and even Paul and Bastian’s story. Then, Akemi and Anzu reappeared in Whitewater City, where the group met -and adopted- Nei the Bakumon, tightening their bond. Said connection only got stronger as Anzu fused with Jazz to reach their strongest form so far, and a lot of truths were later revealed when they traveled to Bastian’s warehouse to meet Goyi the Wanyamon. During all of this, Akemi and Katherine had unveiled this story together, and that had made their bond so special.
They were in this together, and they fought together, no matter what. Even if that had brought a bunch of feelings with it. Feelings Katherine would really like rather not think about right now. Knowing Akemi was going to be there no matter what was probably one of the few things that had kept Katherine sane through all of this mess.
That brought us here: Terminus City. The last stop in the three girl’s cruise to recover the Zoid Gems. Honestly? There was no way in the world Katherine would be here if it weren’t for these two. Both emotionally and physically, Amelie and Akemi had played a fundamental role in this story, and Katherine was never going to let them go. She wanted them in her life forever.
With another part of the much-needed recap out of the way, it’s probably for the best to focus on the events taking place that day.
As Amelie approached her, Fei opened up her eyes a little more, those instinctively going up to look at her, while still holding the map. “Yes. Thank you.” She nodded. “I really wouldn’t expect less from you, Mrs. Saboro.” To her own statement, the Lekismon blinked twice. “I believe we haven’t been formally introduced.” Even if she and Boru had stayed at the DLC settlement, they haven’t actually gone through a formal ‘nice to meet you’ with Amy, unlike with Akemi and Anzu.
“My name is Fei. I’ve heard a lot about you in the past few days.” Not too far from her, Boru walked. The Psychemon thought it would be a good chance to introduce himself too. “My name is Boru. Although nobody asked…” He whispered that last part. After staring at the blue-eyed for a while, the horned digimon spoke up his mind. “Y-You are... very tall, for a human.”
“That’s my brother, Shisei.” Jazz, who had overheard the conversation, chipped in. “I’ve told you about my brothers a couple of times, I think.”
His claw on his snout, Boru pondered about what he had just heard while muttering his thoughts. “Boss calls her Shisei…” Didn’t that mean like she was some type of wise person? Apparently, Amelie was everything he had heard from her, for Jazz to have so much respect for someone.
While they spoke, Amelie would be able to take a look at the map. The first thing she’d notice is that it was… heavily outdated. It’s likely the last time the person who drew this visited Terminus was a long time ago. Vast plains that had turned into commercial and residential buildings, dirt roads that turned into streets. Looking at this was like going back in time to see what the beginnings of Terminus were like.
However, Amelie would be able to tell where they were and what path they’d have to take. How long until they get there? And what road should they follow? Only Amelie knew now.
Meanwhile, Katherine and the rest of the group chatted between them. “Thank you. I don’t know if it’s a perfect plan, but I guess it’s a start.” The Spaniard replied to Akemi. “I assume you never hanged around these parts when you lived here?” The teenager directed that to Bastian.
With his classical robotic voice, the Ballistamon replied. “I used to spend most of the time at the Dark Army’s warehouse, Misu. That means I don’t know much about the city. Definitely never been around these parts.”
Well, that explained why Amy was their best option to get to wherever they were heading. However, Katherine could only wonder what could be waiting for them in there. Then, her green eyes shifted towards Nei who, although mostly quiet -as always-, was accompanying them in this mission. “How do you feel about this place? Is it too big for you too?” Katherine asked the little Bakumon, a tender smile gracing her face.
Once he had issued his answer, Katherine whispered something to Akemi. “Do you think bringing him was a good call?” Even if he insisted, she could not help but be a little worried about Nei.

The sheer gravity of the situation was something that Akemi had been aware of for quite some time. So, why else would they be here? Of the humans gathered, she and Katherine had the most knowledge regarding what they were about to do today. "Right? It's a start, and that's exactly what we need. We can work off of that start to make an even better plan afterwards." The teenager took a pause as Kath and Bastian chatted between themselves. "These parts are just as unfamiliar to me, Bastian. So...You're not alone there."
That being said, that's one half of why it was a good call to bring Amy along with them. If anyone could read that old map? It was probably her. Meanwhile, both Akemi and Anzu turned their attention towards Nei, who was keeping quite close to Jazz and the bean. The Bakumon didn't seem fearful, though...
"It's...It's kind of like a bigger Whitewater...I don't think it's too big but it's still a lot to get used to." The Bakumon then decided to fire a question back at one of his defacto moms. "What about you? Have you been to Terminus before?" He inquired with a tilt of the head.
Was bringing him a good call...? "I...I think so. He's capable of holding his own, and I feel like his illusions can definitely help us here." Akemi replied, a little more confident than usual. Yeah, she figured everyone here was able to play a significant hand in this gem heist of theirs.

At least in the brunette's mind, having this be the time for the so-called 'formal introductions' was a most puzzling proposition, especially considering the nature of their endeavor. But... considering how rude would've been otherwise, Amelie could definitely accommodate to both Fei and Boru.
"Pleased to meet you both, Boru and Fei. I'd introduce myself, but it seems like it'd be pointless." A small smile graced her face; guess she could thank Katherine and Jazz for that. Without thinking much, she patted the Psychemon's head. "I'll take that one as a compliment. And I guess you're... quite colorful, even for digimon standards?"
A weird way to reciprocate that, for sure, but was kinda the first thing that came to mind, Jazz quipped in, to which Amy nodded. "Yes, you have. I've heard a lot of good things from you, Boru~." Jazz could hardly speak ill of anyone in particular, all things considered. Her 'siblings'? Totally impossible.
In any case, it was time to get to work, the map had been handed to her, even though that the obvious result was the brunette staring at it, wide-eyed. "This thing looks older than the first edition of the bible. Oh my God." It wasn't an exclamation of frustration, but one of wonder; the thing looked like it could very well belong in a museum! And rack a hefty profit for that. "Give me a moment. I can recognize some of the landmarks that have persisted to this day, but it'll take me a bit to update everything in my brain."
The young woman seemed to wander aimlessly for a couple of seconds, even if that was just part of the process of recognizing everything. It took her approximately fifteen seconds, but she finally began to decisively walk somewhere. "I think I know where we're supposed to go. This way."
Now that the group was well on their way, she could take a moment to explain precisely where they were going. "That place underwent a lot of changes. There was an ancient corporation whose name was mostly forgotten nearby, it was already broke by the time I first visited the Digital World. The building itself got bought and sold more times than what I can count, but the fact remains that the place is huge and highly sophisticated, and that's supposed to manufacture something on its beginnings. Don't quote me on that, though. The place you're looking for should one of the houses near, if not directly across. Let's hope I'm not mistaken."
Time to get moving!

Unavoidably, Boru let out a short gasp at Amelie’s first statement, a quite evident blush forming around his face. “T-Thank you, I guess.” He scratched the back of his head, a bit nervously. As the blue-eyed issued her next sentence, he looked a bit shocked. Jazz had been telling her good things about him? More often than not, he could forget his sister was not the bossy Lopmon she acted like when they were thieves. Furthermore, it was likely her attitude had changed even more during all of this time. Was that what evolving meant?
Fei and the Psychemon listened closely to Amy as she studied the map, disclosing how antique it was, while the rest of the group kept chatting.
“Thank you, Misu.” Bastian replied in his very characteristic voice.
In the meantime, Katherine addressed Nei, starting with a shook of her head. “We were planning to come here some time ago, to look for more Zoid Gems, but… stuff happened, and we ended up in the human world.” It wouldn’t be the first time Katherine had to refresh Nei’s memories about the events that involved her story and the Dark Army’s. And who could blame him, really? He was very young and that was a very complicated story!
"You're right." Katherine issued that Akemi's way. "I need to have more trust in him." She couldn't help being overprotective, okay?
Bastian and Nei. The final two members of this recently assembled coalition. Even if their personalities weren’t that different, their implications to this whole matter showed two very different levels of complexity.
Bastian the Ballistamon was born and raised in the Dark Area. He left the murky land behind to look for a way of helping the digimon in there, who had been suffering for too long. He wandered through the desert until he met Paul, the Veedramon. Together, they formed one of the most successful restaurants in the Digital World and became inseparable. Thinking they could expand their business, Bastian and Paul traveled to Terminus, where they met Luke, who hired them as cooks for the Dark Army.
Upon noticing his ideals clashed with the Dark Army’s intentions, and feeling he was doing nothing for the people in the Dark Area, Bastian decided to leave the army, which concluded in a terrible discussion with his best friend. The Veedramon decided to stay in the Army and was sent to explore the Human World, where he met Katherine and Akemi, later on. Bastian had found out about the legend of the Zoid Gems so, in order to stop the Dark Army from getting their wishes granted and putting himself one step closer to making the Dark Area a better place, he stole the map to the Drum Sanctuary. Naturally, he became a traitor for the Dark Army and one of their most wanted targets.
Where did he hide all of this time? The Dark Area, where Katherine and Jazz found him, after disclosing some businesses he had with Tayichi’Tai. The Ballistamon was the one who had cracked the code for them to enter the Dark Army’s hideout to do this heist and was also working on decrypting the map to the Drum Sanctuary for them to go once they had the gems.
Being less of a protagonist, Oneiros ‘Nei’ the Bakumon was the so-called Katherine and Akemi’s adopted digimon. The girls had found him in a lonely house of Whitewater after his parents died of a terrible disease. Nei had used his powers to recreate his parents from memories and live forever in the illusion he had created, where he was happy until he forgot how they looked. Then, he dedicated to playing with memories from Whitewater’s habitants, until the group convinced him to live his actual life and come with them.
Since their encounter, Nei had become a recurring part of Akemi and Katherine’s adventures, always wanting to keep close to the two girls and help as he could, developing a rather adorable friendship with Jazz and Anzu in the process.
Although there were some members of this alliance missing in this recap, that was pretty much everyone in the group at the moment, and all of the members Katherine actually knew… so to say. The rest of the summarization would have to wait, then.
How were the ‘heroes’ faring off, then? After some heavy thinking, Amelie seemed to have figured out where they were. Fei, Bastian, and Katherine listened closely to what she explained, while the rest of the group was either distracted or confused by the complexity of the matter.
“Amazing.” The curly-haired tamer had heard Terminus was the oldest inhabited city in the Digital World, so it made sense a single zone or building could have gone through so much. “I can only wonder if this place we’re looking for is related to that building or the corporation that owned it initially.”
The answers to those questions would come rather soon, probably! Especially considering they were not too far from their final destination.
As they approximated the spot the map led to, the buildings around them started to look significantly older, although not completely abandoned. Some digimon could still be seen strolling around, but the density of passersby had definitely diminished. Maybe that was also related to the afternoon starting to reach its end, with the night being a lot closer.
Fei, who constantly glanced at the map and back at their surroundings, raised her arm, pointing at an old, three-story building. “I think that’s the place.” She noted.
And guess what, it actually was! From where they were standing, they could see the gigantic building Amy had mentioned before, less than a block away from them. “You were right.” The moon rabbit gave the tallest human a thumbs-up and a smirk.
“Great job, Shisei, Fei!” Jazz chimed. Katherine smiled and nodded.
“A-Amazing.” Boru contributed.
The group walked towards the door of the building. Katherine and Fei took some steps forward, the human knocking a few times with the back of her finger. Some seconds passed. No response. Instead, a sound got to their ears… a … song? It was coming from the other side of the door!
“Is that…?” Katherine whispered. “… a piano?”
The tune had a vibe of melancholy and ‘epicness’, building up emotions from a soft start to a very vibrant development, lowering the vibrations of each musical note by the end. After a short pause of five seconds, the exact same tune started again. In both cases, it lasted exactly 30 seconds. It didn’t play again a third time.
Katherine glanced at Jazz, who seemed rather puzzled. Boru pointed at some item stuck to the front of the door, right by the middle of its layout. “What is this?”
Meticulously, the teenager’s green irises studied the object. It was a piano! Oddly, it had only 10 keys, probably so it could fit there, glued vertically to the door. By now, it was probably obvious what this ‘puzzle’ consisted of, right?
It was for Katherine, and that’s why she was staring at the only pianist she knew in this group.
Would Akemi Amaya be able to replicate this tune having only heard it twice?

The frenchwoman had a moment of 'eureka,' and that was the impetus that they needed to get on their way. "...Wow, that old?" Anzu stated aloud, looking at Amy incredulously. "Says a lot about how old Terminus itself is, either way." Turns out, Amelie was great with maps, something that Akemi made a mental note of for the future. "I think either of those is equally likely." Akemi stated, before she nodded to Kath.
"Hey, it's okay to be a bit overprotective...He's kind of our responsibility, after all. I need to put that same amount of trust in him as well."
Anzu and Nei alike watched as the bustling buildings around them seemed to just grow older and older the further they proceeded into Terminus. Day was beginning to eclipse into night, and with it, the populace dwindled. Slowly, but surely. "...Hey, less people. I hate crowds."
"Wait, really?" Nei tilted his head towards Anzu, who nodded a few times as they all came up to the building, a tune played twice over the course of a minute, a tune that Akemi was able to pick up as something one would play on a piano. While she wasn't any Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Antonio Salieri, she was able to pick up the tune by the second time.
"...Exactly the same..." Akemi muttered as they proceeded into the building proper to find a piano stuck to a door. Katherine was staring at her now, and Akemi stared right back at her. With a single nod and a smile, it was clear she was aware of what had to be done.
"I'll play something for you." With that, she walked over towards the piano, taking a seat and looking the piano over. "Just...ten keys?" Akemi uttered aloud, before she cracked her knuckles and began to play the tune as best as she could. This was probably something unprecedented to Amelie, and something Kath actually would get to see in action proper, as one didn't know that Akemi was a pianist, and the other knew...quite well, actually.
Now would this attempt work, however?

Of course that Amelie had gotten them right where they needed to. She was just that good. And pretty. And humble too! In any case, the three humans and... six? digimon managed to reach the desired building; after some well-deserved compliments from Boru and Jazz, Amelie smiled.
"Not that big of a deal; don't worry!" All things considered, that had been a somewhat simple task; now it was time for Katherine and Fei to take care of their entrance... right? Apparently, it wasn't. Considering that, for some reason, what they heard on the other side of the door was a piano of all things. It seemed like a puzzle that could only be solved by somebody able to play the said instrument. Conveniently, they had somebody who could do that.
None other than Akemi. "Well, it seems like we've been quite fortunate thus far. We've gotten one person to read a map and another to decipher the tune that supposedly is locking a door. Isn't this a bit... too easy? I don't know why, but I've kinda got a bad feeling about this."
Granted, maybe that was just paranoia setting in, but... who couldn't suspect a situation like this one? At least for her, something was undoubtedly off.

The whole group watched marveled as the tune that they had heard some seconds before, played again, these times on the hands of Akemi, who had managed to mimic it perfectly. “Amazing.” Katherine muttered, bringing her hands together. Before anything else happened, she turned to see Amelie, who was stating a fairly valid point, even if not too accurate. “I’m not surprised things haven’t been that hard for us so far. After all, we’re still not even about to enter the Dark Army’s hideout.” In the end, all of this was just for them to find a place where they could plan their heist. Whoever was behind this door... they were supposed to be an ally. Speaking of the door! while she uttered these words, the metallic door opened by itself. It was then when Katherine realized… “… the thickness of that thing.” It looked fairly heavy, honestly. “Great job, Akemi.” Fei congratulated the little human as she went past her and into the building. "Thank you so much." Katherine added. Once everyone had entered, the door closed. Where were they, then? Although the place was not perfectly illuminated, some dim, yellow lights allowed them to see they were inside some type of living room with its walls absolutely covered by papers of all kinds. Two huge, wooden tables were located on both sides of the room, all types and models of radios, TVs, and computers on them. They all had very particular shapes and colors, just like any electronic device Katherine had seen in the Digita World. What was the most interesting part? All of them were on but tuned in different channels, frequencies, and displaying different types of info. “Please excuse such mess, you’ll understand I have to remain well informed.” Although Katherine had never been to Australia, one of her dad’s co-workers was Australian. He had been in her house a couple of times so she could recognize an Australian accent when she heard one. And this was one. The voice sounded a bit squeaky, although it seemed to hold an elegant lexicon. “You must also pardon the little obstacle at the door. I have found I must only let… refined people enter my residence.”Where was the voice coming from? Everyone’s eyes scanned the insides of the room until… “There.” Boru found it! A bird digimon was clinging into one of the antennas of the multiple TVs in the room. The antenna was squared, and the digimon was actually hanging from its upper wire. Immediately, the creature fluttered its wing, keeping itself afloat in front of the group. Everyone was here because of her, right? So she could not back down. Even if she usually didn’t like to be the first one to talk in these types of situations. “Hi.” Katherine greeted the digimon, taking a step forward. “My name is…”“Katherine Jasso.” The creature finished the sentence for her. The human kept her mouth opened for a second or two. That was unexpected. “Did I pronounce that right?” He did! But… “I mean, even if we’re actually speaking digimon right now, your brain will still translate different digimon dialects and ways of talking to some sort of equivalent in a language you know, so pronunciation is important.”That actually made sense, BUT…! “Who are you?” Fei asked taking a step forward too. "Are you Lord Goddramon's friend?" Jazz did not hesitate either. “Yes, that is actually a worthy question, Mrs. Fei, Mrs. Jazz. Even if I know all of you, it makes sense you don’t know me.” The digimon flew above their heads, offering an introduction. “I am Cass, the Owlmon. It’s truly a pleasure to meet you.” He went on with his now characteristic tone. “There are some of you who I really admire, honestly. Mrs. Saboro is a clear example of that, probably due to her work as a journalist. I do recognize what all of you have accomplished, though. You’re quite an impressive squad.” Now, the bird glared upwards as if he had remembered something. “But where are my manners?” He asked rhetorically. “ Can I offer you something, misses? Water? Coffee?” Cass fluttered his wings towards the youngest member of the group. “Maybe a candy for the young Nei?”Then, he shifted his lenses back to the whole group. “I did not know you were coming, I must admit. Right now, I’m trying to make conjectures in my head regarding why are you here and, while you mentioning my comrade Reiki helps, it would be better if one of you actually explained it.” He made a pause, to then add something else. “Not knowing stuff really enervates me.”Who was this owl? And why did it know so much?

As Akemi concluded her mimicry of the tune she had only heard twice, three times now with how she had played it, she waited a few seconds. Then she rose from the piano as the door, which was more a giant metal barrier SHAPED like a door with how damn thick it was, opened up.
"...Interesting way to guard a place." How dubiously fortunate it was that they had Akemi with them to get through that, though. She glanced to Fei and Kath as they approached, and offered a smile to both of them. "Of course." ...What lay in there, though? Anzu looked towards Amelie, "...I understand the paranoia. Perhaps the hard part is yet to come."
As they went inside, they were greeted by a distinctly Australian accent, one that was quickly pointed out to be an Owlmon. "You...know all of us?" Nei asked, after Cass introduced himself. "I'd like some candy..." After a period of silence from both Akemi and Anzu, the former spoke up to offer an explanation as to why they had come here. "Well, your companion gave us a map that led us here under the pretense that the entity living within, that being yourself, would be able to lend us a hand with...something we're planning. You know of the legend of the Zoid Gems, right?"
...Oh dear. Whatever she was going to say next...
"Because we're looking for those, well, we know where they are, we just need help with formulating a plan to snatch them from where they are."

If Katherine thought it that way... nothing to do about it. Amelie just shrugged at the comment. "Oh well; at least what Akemi did was fairly impressive; that much I can say. Let's advance."
While the fact that the door was closed as soon as they entered wasn't fishy at all, Amy decided to roll with it; all part of the plan, right? Well; apparently it was, considering how they had arrived to the residence of their supposed... informant. An Owlmon, of all species. Guess it was time for the talkers to do the talking and for her to stay put and look pretty. Good enough, right?
While Cass was a name the young woman didn't exactly favor, she took the compliments in stride; guy had done his homework. Was he some kind of spymaster? Or just a shut-in who wanted to desperately have some contact with the outside world. In any case, she nodded. "The flattery is no doubt appreciated. I'd like some tea if you have access to it; otherwise, water is fine."
Was she really fitting to explain the situation at hand? Akemi and Katherine were probably way more fitting to perform that task. In fact, Akemi was already on it! Would the Owlmon give them the answers they wanted? Or was this meeting a waste of time? In any case, the brunette expected to at least learn something about the situation at hand... by either means. If this guy was supposed to have the information they wanted, they'd get it one way or another.
That was in part why she was here, right? Even though she certainly hoped it wouldn't come to that.

As it seemed to be his natural way of speaking, the bird went straight to the point, regarding Nei’s question. “Oh, of course I do, youngster Nei. I know everyone who has been on the news, TV, radio, digital or written record. Sometimes, my knowledge extends even to those who have been mentioned in word of mouth rumors.” With his very well-mannered tone, he answered. “As you can see, I like to… keep myself well informed.” Cass opened his wings, only for the group to pay attention to all of the computers, TVs, and radios surrounding them. “So, it’s only natural I know who was the owner of the house involved in the Whitewater South Beach disaster. And…” Now, he glared towards Anzu and Jazz, although he took a moment to look at Katherine and Akemi too. “… The causers of such disaster, of course.” After a pause, he added something else. “More things that you think of reach some type of media.”
Her arms folded, Katherine studied the situation. So, apparently, this Owlmon –the species her D-Terminal had revealed this digimon was- was a big fan of media and news. Was that why he knew so much about them? How much of the things they had done in the Digital World had been spread through some type of media?
While he poured some green tea for Amelie and handed a bar of candy to Nei, Cass listened to Akemi, who had provided some info and a reason for the group to be there.
“The Zoid Gems…” He made a pause as if he was trying to find the info in the giant index that was his head. “Under normal circumstances, Mrs. Amaya, if you told me you’re looking for the Zoid Gems, I would tell you to look… that way.” Cass was looking at Katherine now. Her eyes widening, the teenager took a step back.
“First, the events of Rococo Village, right at the foot of Terabyte Mountain.” The bird started recapping. “Then, the kidnapping of Kokatorimon, in Whitewater city.” He made a brief pause before continuing. “The Great Binary Archipelago All Out Race, which you won with the help of your dear friend right here… and, the night in the forest, being tricked by that Digitamamon’s illusions. That’s how you reunited the four Zoid Gems, or that’s what I believe.”
Naturally, Katherine’s astonishment was evident.
“Y-You read all of that in the media?”
“Everything is in the media, Mrs. Jazz. Due to our Digital World being so… unconnected, people in other cities don’t usually find out about the events taking place far away unless those are truly major events. That is, however, something that I can’t take. I like to keep myself informed. In order to do so, I have multiple networks in charge of informing me. I have also the equipment to intercept information broadcasted by radios or TVs or sent through the web.” He explained. “That is why I can probably assume if you’re all looking for the Zoid Gems now is because someone stole those four from Mrs. Jasso. Now, considering I did not know about this… I assume this happened either in the Human World or in a place where I have little access to information, like the Dark Area. A place that, by the way, Mrs. Saboro seems actually... fond of.”
“L-Luke stole the gems. Back in the Human World…” Katherine confessed, still a bit shocked by the neutrality the Owlmon bestowed when talking about this.
“Hmmm… Yes.” After a short pause, the owl continued. “That potentially fills all of the holes in my head. Yes. So the Dark Army has all of the gems now, but they can’t use them because… Oh!” Seemingly realizing something, Cass just chuckled. “… The irony!” He noted, glancing at Bastian. “Now you have the piece they are missing yet again! You have Bastian the Ballistamon with you. That is a… very interesting turn of events. Even if it is probably not a coincidence.”
“He knows me too…” The robot muttered.
“In any case! Considering the number of valuable members you have reunited and how you are close to one of my best friends in the world, I will definitely help you. Besides, if I don’t, you would just find a way of doing it anyway and I wouldn’t be able to get all of the details first hand.” Cass explained. “Please, follow me.” So that was easy!
With this, the bird fluttered his wings, going up the stairs located at the northern side of the room and into the second floor. While the group followed suit, Katherine walked next to Amelie and Akemi. Debating about any new situation they faced was probably the best course of action to pull this off.
“So the reason this Owlmon knows so much about our group is that he keeps up with news released in any type of media around the Digital World... ” She whispered, hoping both of her friends could give her their opinion.
“Is that even possible?” Jazz, who was right behind them, asked. “Shisei, you’re a journalist, how much can you really know by paying attention to that stuff?”
Fei contributed with her own piece of insight. “If what he said is true, this digimon might be the center of a giant network of information. It would take years to make sure every reported data in the Digital World passed through one single place. Considering many years ago much of the information was stored in paper records and not digital records, he would need to have…”
As they finished going up the stairs, they would find out the second floor was absolutely full of books. In shelves, in tables, lying around, just how much paper was in this single room!?
“… a ton of books.” Fei finished a sentence that had been validated while it was being uttered.

Wait a goddamn second, they had been on the news before? Nei regarded this with yet another quizzical tilt of the head. "...So we're known because the media knows us...?" He hadn't even stopped to consider such a thing, truth be told. "Ooooh, so my housewrecking is a disaster now, eh?" Anzu started to snicker a bit. "...Yeah, I guess it sounds about right, sure."
Akemi would nod as Cass pointed in Katherine's direction with his response to the question of the Zoid Gems. Or, rather, where they'd be, before she continued to listen to the rather talkative Owlmon of the Australian variety. Who wasn't a drugs Owlmon, either. So how did he manage to come across all this information? Not everything was transmitted via televisions or computers, some information was relegated exclusively to paper.
She wanted to know how. But, more on that later. Now, they had secured Cass' help. Yes, just according to plan! As Akemi followed Amy and Kath up (with the menagerie of Digimon also accompanying,) she was definitely able to give an opinion. "I think he keeps a bunch of written stuff. Like newspaper articles. Or subscriptions to newspapers...That'd be a hell of a lot of bits to blow on newspapers, though..." She whispered.
And when they finally got to the second floor? Anzu finally gave her own piece of mind. "...I'm with Ms. Fei here. That's a lot of books."
Akemi was hoping that they didn't need to go find another goddamn green book. "So, Cass, what...exactly are we up here to look at?"

The Owlmon knew his information, that much was obvious. Amy took a sip of her beverage while Cass went on with his long-winded explanation; sure, she didn't know about a lot of what he was talking about, yet it seemed that they were on a bit of a similar situation, given that it seemed like the digimon didn't have access to any significant amount of information coming from the Dark Area, whilst the place was more or less the brunette's headquarters. Not like that mattered at the moment, even if the implication made her smirk a bit behind her cup.
Eventually, the monologue ground to a halt, just for a request to follow him upstairs to ensue. Not losing time, Amelie would spearhead the advance if needed; only then, she'd be followed by everyone else present, Akemi and Katherine being the closest beings to her at the moment as they advanced through the stairs. Understandably, Jazz was marveled at the display, even if the whole thing managed to make a lot of sense. "Well, if you consider that this digimon looks like he's mostly a shut-in, live-at-home type that has one very prominent hobby, it's not so surprising. People who single-mindedly advocate to a single task can perform marvelous feats, even though I have serious doubts on whether that's worthwhile or not. But each to their own, right? I'm not gonna tell anyone how to live their lives."
Predictably, the group would soon find themselves in al atelier that was pretty much crowded by books. Quite impressive, even though a single question still lingered in the air. Why they were here? Guess they'd find out rather soon.
