Warning - EncryptedFiles posted will vanish within 2 minutes of checking the response. This message will disappear when the chat link is refreshed.May 7[01:22:12] It goes without saying that the events during Golden Week got a little out of hand. [01:23:14] It was never my intent to have things turn out this way... but perhaps it should have been expected. Digimon each have their own responses to DATS and will respond in their own away. [01:24:30] ... Though I understand you have no reason to take my word on this. For all you know this is a trap I laid at the start. [01:25:22] If its agreeable, I'd like to meet with you in a neutral location.
May 9th, the housing district just outside of the Udagawa Back Streets. For many, this was just a place that the rest of the city cared to avoid, but that in turn made it an easy place to hide from most of the public eye.
Denryu rented a single room in a passable inn near the end of the district, and with the Hackmon's go-ahead, had sent the coordinates out to Machine's partner about an hour prior. In about five or ten minutes time, either the Digimon, or the Digimon plus the agent, would show up in this place to investigate an anomaly - or, at least that was the plan.
"You realize how risky this is, right?" Sitting across the TV, trying to make out a picture through the static, the Renamon pinched her sinus with a sigh. "If that agent's spilled the beans on us, they might bring every DATS agent on the payroll to corner us here."
"They don't need to do anything like that." Denryu gave a short shrug. "You're only giving off the data signal of a normal rookie level Digimon. After what happened in Golden Week, they aren't going to stretch their resources so thin to deal with such a minor offender. And if we sense more than one data signal approaching, we can just use a portal to slip away." The General remained calm. "Just keep an eye on the local news. Are they trying to cover this up, or has the whole thing boiled over?"
"Hard to say... mostly because this TV is a piece of junk." The Renamon stepped on up, tapping on the edge of the box. "Does it really matter, though? Its why you made all those tapes..."

"You sure this isn't a trap?" Seifer asked his partner as they drove through the streets of Tokyo to the location where they would meet this... 'Metal Drive' individual that they had been in contact with. While Seifer had been the one to initiate their contact over Tamernet, meeting them in person, it made the little Hackmon just a little nervous.
"Why would it be?" Agent Machine asked as he drove calmly onward, stopping at the red lights, going onward at the green. "What do they have to gain from this compared to what they have to lose? Something happens to us, worse agents will replace us, ones prepared for all-out war. They're clever enough to know that to have come this far, from what you've told me."
"Alright, just making sure." Seifer answered, glad to hear his partner's words matched up with his own feelings. What happened that night during Golden Week should not have happened, that was for sure. And both he and his partner were taking the words given to them as genuine - that something did go wrong and they intended to find out exactly how it did so.
As for their arrangement, well, when Seifer first told Machine about the arrangement for Golden Week, the DATS Agent was silent about it for a few moments, but in the end, decided that he would say nothing about it. That he would not make forewarnings and the peaceful digimon demonstrations would take place. When it all went so wrong, however, he did have suspicions of sabotage for a moment, but decided in the end that was not the case.
For one thing, the outbreak of deadly digimon battles in Miyashita Park and Hachiko Square didn't weaken DATS's positions at all. In fact, they would be seen by the Japanese Government as more important than ever - the opposite effect of what Seifer was hoping would happen. But in the Entertainment District, things had gone somewhat better, thanks to the peaceful intervention and show of force by the additional Tamers that showed up there.
Agent Machine and Seifer had tried their hardest in Hachiko Square to achieve the same result, but fighting had broken out in the end. The Commander was currently mopping that particular mess up, but for now, he and Seifer were simply on standby.
And thus they had been called out to a simple routine inspection by an appearance of digimon. They knew from the encrypted tamernet message what it was about though, so they proceeded in mostly full knowledge of what was ahead.
They would bring no backup with them, since they had already made peaceful contact with a Renamon from this group before - one that had infiltrated DATS HQ no less. So they were willing to take the risk of this meeting.
Eventually, Agent Machine parked his car outside the agreed meeting spot, then drew Seifer into his digivice. He got out of the car, then made his way to the coordinates that Seifer had given him, waiting for an indication that this meeting would indeed happen and wasn't a trap.

"Hm?"
Hearing the hum of a car outside, Angel's ear gave a flick, the Renamon giving a brief glance towards the window. She narrowed her eyes, as if trying to glare past the blinds, before she let out a sigh. "It's the Hackmon - or something close to one, anyway. Not sensing any other data signatures. He come alone?"
"Remember, humans aren't 'data' on this side." Still, the Renamon was mostly correct, the fox giving a 'tsk' through her teeth as Denryu stood up. "Hold up inside for a second. I'll go and greet our guests."
"Yeah, yeah, try to not trip over your words this time." The fox managed a small grin, the general just letting that one slide. As the car pulled up (Angel mentioning that the signal 'vanished', which Denryu simply thought of as similar to a Xros Loader), Denryu opened the door, keeping it cracked open as he waited for the agent to approach. As Machine would turn the corner, he'd see exactly that - but perhaps it wouldn't exactly be what he was expecting.
Denryu wasn't Japanese - his hair and build suggested being more of British or German descent. Instead of a bow, the man offered a handshake to introduce himself. Still, Machine could be certain that he was talking to the right person, thanks to the Xros Loader affixed to his belt.
"Hello. I am 'Metal Drive'." Though fluent enough, Denryu's Japanese was audibly rough to the ear - and surely, he meant to say something slightly more sensible than that. "My partner will help with more rough translation."
He'd tilt his head towards the door, and if permitted, would open the door further, Angel lying idly back on the hotel bed. "First you use me as a microphone to speak to them, and now you want me as a translator? I'd say you're on thin ice, buddy." Angel chuckled. "Don't worry about alerting your patrol or anything, us two will be on our way after this."
"Well, now that we've 'pulled the veil' back on this - I guess I'll leave it to you to start before I jump into things. Machine, right?" Denryu gave a nod: "I am the one who organized the 'Golden Week' event. Our primary intent was to put Digimon out in a place for the public to openly see, though it didn't exactly work out as intended. I'll get a bit more detail into it, but what questions do you have?"

As Agent Machine proceeded forward, he noted the young man he was facing. Not Japanese, but more of a Caucasian appearance. He also noted the Xros Loader attached to his belt, indicating that he was most likely that this was the individual he was meant to be meeting here.
The other young man offered his hand to shake. Agent Machine raised his hand and clasped it, shaking in return. While bowing was more custom for him, he knew westerners often preferred shaking hands. Knowing the history of the custom - as a gesture of trust to show that neither had a weapon in their (usually) dominant hand. Machine rather liked it.
The young man introduced himself as "Metal Drive", speaking in a heavily accented Japanese. At this, Machine shook his head and smiled. "I think it should be fine. I believe my English is better than your Japanese, I'm happy to converse in this language." he replied. While of course he had an accent too, Machine knew English as pretty much a second language. While regional slang was out of his understanding, he had taken care to study it, especially with English being so important in the computing world that had been his background.
"Correct, I am Agent Machine of DATS, and I was aware that the events of Golden Week were preorganized." he answered, but his face remained neutral, showing no anger about the events that happened. "From what my partner had told me, it seemed... in line with what Angel had warned us about within DATS HQ."
Metal Drive then offered to answer questions in return to this. Machine responded with the first one on his mind.
"The execution of the events at Golden Week meanwhile... indicates that somehow the plan got leaked out to a group of digimon that wish to oppose DATS or humanity in general, leading to the complications in the Entertainment District, Miyashita Park and Hachiko Square. The result of this has nullified most of the public opinion damage against DATS. Officially, we have taken all credit for protecting the public from dangerous monsters. Unofficially... we have no idea what went on though, and, with utmost respect, I would like to know as much as possible as to the reasons why."
Speaking in English was probably the safest option here anyway. Agent Machine wasn't sure if he was being overheard by any channels that led back to DATS here, and speaking in a language foreign to most might be the safest route here. But he'd still look about carefully to make sure they weren't being overheard. And most importantly, that if any of this conversation would be recorded and given to his superiors, he would be able to defend it without blowing the cover of his intentions.

Ah, good - Denryu wouldn't be tripping over his words as much, then! Returning that handshake, the General gave a nod. "Considering I probably have a lot of explaining to do, that should make things much simpler."
He nodded, leading Machine back into the room. The General decided to not clarify his name further - like the DATS agent, he had no idea if he was being recorded or not. This was also why the blinds to the room were drawn, and he kept his D-Terminal powered off. "Well, maybe not 'completely' like what I warned you about." The Renamon sighed: "When we have our own thumb on the scale, we can't entirely call it an action by the Digital World."
"Hm." Denryu let that slide for now, letting Machine speak his peace. The agent figured that the plans got leaked out to some untoward individuals somehow - and, he also figured that the potential damage to DATS was offset by the sheer violence shown to the real world. That much remained to be debated, but it all boiled down to one large, general question.
'Why did this happen'?
"'Why' is an interesting question. As far as I can see, all that happened was that the intent of certain Digimon simply bubbled to the surface." He quickly clarified: "What each and every Digimon did their was their own choice. All of the participants chose to participate, and though they probably practiced their 'entertainment' routines, the first groups that showed up were all Digimon that both stood to benefit from being able to come to our world, and who found DATS' restrictions either silly or unjust. And, as you guessed, the 'other' group were all Digimon with personal intentions... none of which I would really know."
"Could be more pissed-off Digimon at DATS or some group being paid to disrupt it as a whole. Don't know."
"As for 'how'? Only a few Digimon in Terminus know that I was involved in it at all. I worked with a few Digimon, called in a favor, and they helped organize an underground movement to get a 'rally' during the closest holiday in Japan. Anything too 'loud' and DATS would have caught on before it happened - but doing it that way might have caused the other events to happen. The Digital World, ironically, isn't the most tech-savvy place - in hindsight, its not surprising it leaked out. As for my own involvement?"
"About a week before it all happened, we set up web cameras in the areas we knew it would be set up. You know it first-hand: Xros'd, I can completely mask my data signal. So we set them to record, and watched everything unfold, all the way from the safety of London."
Angel sounded almost annoyed at the fact, even as Denryu returned a shrug.
"Ultimately, we did this because we find DATS 'problematic' - not the organization itself, but the very concept that Digimon would be kept secret. In the short term, they will be able to act as 'just guardians' amidst a threatening alien force from another world... but how long do you think they can really keep up that image?"

Angel's words to Machine made the DATS agent raise his hand to his mouth in thought, realizing the significance of those words. "You know, that's a thought that's come to me as well... whenever someone presses their thumbs on the scales on the digital world, that usually causes it to rebound in extraordinary ways." he replied.
Machine and Seifer then remained silent as Denryu said his piece. What he said seemed logical. That every digimon there that day had acted on their own free will. Regardless of how they had come across this information, some of them were there to specifically target, attack and humiliate DATS. He knew that the previous incarnation hadn't exactly coated themselves in glory, but, that such devastation had occurred because of this, it seemed that DATS wasn't very high in popularity right now.
Metal Drive explained that only a few digimon knew of his involvement. So far he understood that the Xros General was unlikely to blame because of this, seeing as in his opinion, the most ideal way for DATS to lose face in all this was to have them comically try and chase down harmless bouncing monsters as they entertained the revellers of Golden Week. That it had come to battle, that indicated something had gone wrong for all.
He rubbed his chin as the Renamon spoke further. "Yes, well, you mustn't have picked up much signals in Hachiko Square after Seifer jammed the signals of whatever camera he saw in the beginning." he began. "But you must also have seen what happened in the Entertainment District and Miyashita Park to have a good enough idea of what went on."
To Metal Drive's last question, Agent Machine could only sigh. "Honestly? After these events? I don't know." he answered. "All I hope is to learn more from other Tamers and company exactly what's going on here. Of course I'll be expected to make raids and patrols by my superiors, but, I feel that my superiors don't yet understand the significance of the coordination of the events of Golden Week. Three simultaneous incursions, three attempts at chaos and disruption, two successful. I fear this is leading to something more... sinister."
He looked at Metal Drive and posed a question in return.
"To your knowledge, what place in Shibuya has the greatest connection to that of the digital world?" he asked, curiously, wondering just how much these people knew about the true situation in this ward of Tokyo.

If you shake the pot a certain way, perhaps you shouldn't be surprised if something goes awry. Angel returned a nod, Denryu more-or-less letting it slide without comment as the general processed that thought in his head. There was always a risk, but were things really right as they were now? With DATS trying to eliminate most Digimon involvement in the human world?
Or should have he been more direct, like Holly suggested?
Regardless, this was the situation they were in now. At the comment on the cameras, Denryu returned a nod. "A few were taken offline, others were caught up in the fighting, but we have... 'enough' footage to work with, at least. Yes, we saw what happened in both areas."
"Sorta made me wish we took a more direct role. Tch... though I am curious as to how much hot water we'd all be in if any of this conversation got out."
"Water getting a bit hot for you, Angel?" Denryu sighed, hearing Machine out. "Unfortunately, that might be a bit difficult going forward. Acting as a DATS Agent, your face is probably already out there... hm." The last bit caught his interest, though. Three simultaneous incursions, coordinated with the entire event of Golden Week. Angel picked up on it as well: "So what you're saying is, the 'snake' behind it hasn't shown his head, yet?"
"Careful there, Angel."
"What, D? It's clear as day that - ... oh for the love of fuck."
It clicked - and she hate that it clicked. A definite, reasonable possibility was that there was a ringleader behind what had happened. No, the issue wasn't with Angel's conclusion, but with the implication behind it. They would have no leads, no suspects... except the one person Machine knew with the motive, and intent to try and destroy DATS.
The very General he was trying to get information from was, at least for the moment, a very well-fitting suspect. But at that next question, Denryu seemed to take it in stride. "Its difficult to say... though I'd say its probably not the Train Station. That looks more like there was someone, at some point, who made an anchor point to make transition more 'stable'."
He rolled that thought through his head.
"... There's an oddly high number of news articles about missing persons near the riverbank. It's inferred evidence at best, but its possible that the area there's been an active transfer point."

"Scalding hot I daresay." Seifer remarked from within Machine's digivice, his snarky voice audible to those within speaking range.
Metal Drive picked up pretty quickly what Machine was talking about. The snake hadn't revealed their head so far. "Or indeed, the spider." Machine added, remembering Agent Tiger's report of there being an Arachnemon in charge of what happened in the Entertainment district, only her efforts to provoke a battle were thwarted by the other tamers and digimon present.
"Seifer and I have tried to look into the background of this "Arachnemon", but, sources are scarce, namely because every former DATS agent seems to have disappeared, as have those with memory of their activities. At least on Earth." Machine explained. "So she remains our chief suspect, and we have no idea when she might strike again..."
Metal Drive then got to the next point by answering his next question. "Yeah, I get that feeling too. Either the Shibuya Train Station or the Shibuya River, those seem to be the closest links to the digital world here."
"The Train station has a more stable means of entry to the digital world, while the river seems more random." Seifer added. "Still, would probably be worth setting up surveillance in both places. Allow me to think some moves ahead here... may I please have some fresh air here?"
"Of course." Machine answered, raising his digivice. "Seifer, realize."
In a flash of purple light, a small hooded Hackmon appeared. He winked and said "Yo" to those present, then spoke his mind, the little dragon pacing a little.
"Our aim here is to prove DATS wrong, while at the same time covering our tracks." he said. "We attempted to do so during Golden Week, but we were thwarted by a coordinated counter-attack by digimon that wanted to get revenge on DATS outright. In the resulting clash, DATS was proven right - digimon are a threat and are a worthy organization to defend Tokyo. What we don't know... if this was a coincidence, or deliberate."
"Are you saying, Seifer, that someone higher up in DATS may have planned this?" Machine asked his partner, a little frightened now by the possibility.
"It is a possibility." Seifer replied, then turned to Metal Drive and Angel. "Xros Generals are said to have appropriately strategic minds, so if you will, I would like to brainstorm with you. If you were in the position of the lead command of DATS, and you got wind that something was going to happen in Golden Week, would you have tipped off Ultimate level digimon with a grudge against DATS that that night was the time for vengeance, with the intention of causing destruction and chaos? If so, hypothetically, what would be your next plan?"
Agent Machine said nothing, and was genuinely interested to hear Metal Drive's reply.

"Hmph. I wondered when you were going to join us."
At the sound of that crackling device, the Renamon rolled her eyes. Her question aside, it was obvious that they would be in hot water, but she was more interested in what said hot water would entail... but it seemed like that would stay a mystery. Right now, the conversation switched to the topic of the 'Arachnemon'.
"I think its doubtful that the mastermind would have come here directly - but its definitely too soon to throw out that possibility. I suppose we'll keep an eye out for her in the Digital World, just in case." The General gave a nod to that - and the Hackmon suggested putting surveillance in both places. "Wait, really? Wouldn't DATS already have cameras set up in both places, regardless?"
That was a good point, honestly! "I think its more a matter of having his own feed... aside from that..."
The Hackmon brought up a better point. A very dangerous thought - what if a higher-up in DATS had a hand in the entire situation? Angel blinked, missing the point of the exercise: "Wait, wait, isn't it a bit much to jump to that kind of answer? You're saying that a human operative has enough control in the Digital World to create such a situation-"
"Angel." Denryu rested a hand on the Renamon's shoulder, then nodded to the Hackmon. "If I were to make such a decision, it would be for the purpose of validating DATS as an agency. And to that, I ask a different question: Machine? Were any of the patrol routes assigned to the agents different than your ordinary paths? For example, would have any of you had deliberately shorter response times to the situation?"
As to the second point, Denryu took a moment to think - closing his eyes, letting it piece together in his head. Slowly, they opened, the General giving a nod.
"... I'd take whatever 'head' looks real, and strike it down." Denryu sighed: "If the initial attack was fabricated, then he has the choice to use his position against any group in the Digital World - and if the same attack doesn't happen again, he's proven himself right."
"D..."
"Relax, Angel. We're working off an assumption here - it really depends on the circumstances of the situation. Some things might seem to fit now - its really up to Machine to let us know if such a situation is even plausible."

Machine and Seifer had to agree with that. "True. If Arachnemon was the mastermind, she wouldn't have made herself that vulnerable. She would have only made that action if she was assured of a strong probability of her operation being a success, which it would have been, had it not been for the interference of the other "Chosen."" Machine mused.
Angel meanwhile questioned Seifer, asking if they had already put cameras up in those places. Seifer answered nonchalantly. "Of course we have. I'm just saying, would be nice if we had another set of cameras that can be counted on to see the same thing." he answered.
The reason why came up in the next line of questioning. "Exactly." Seifer said. "I can't say much at the moment because I don't have proof, but, I've got a hunch that the upper echelons of DATS are in this for the politics."
Agent Machine gently petted Seifer's back, as an indication that he should dial it down a little. If either of them were caught having this conversation... it was too horrible to consider. So they should be careful what they revealed to Metal Drive and Angel here.
Metal Drive then asked Machine if any of the agents had an easier time getting to their target that night on Golden Week. Agent Machine thought for a moment, then shook his head.
"That didn't happen. On that night, three digimon hotspots emerged, so the three of us were despatched to them simultaneously. Given our difficulties in dealing with them, I don't think Tiger or Maria were in league with this."
If not them, then who? Commander Hashimoto? That was preposterous. Thinking beyond that, they listened to Metal Drive's reasoning as a Xros General in answer to Seifer. Strike whichever 'head' looked real. And the fact that at Miyashita Park, Hachiko Square and the Entertainment District, those 'heads' were pretty real.
But sadly, they had nothing solid in their basket of evidence yet. However, Machine held a theory. "While we might not have anything solid just yet, we do have clues." he reasoned. "If it turns out to be a conspiracy within DATS and we can prove it, well, this organization can be dismantled pretty quickly once it reaches the right ears. If it's something else meanwhile, I'd feel fairly justified in crushing it as a threat to this world."
Still, Seifer had to make the last word on that. "And if it was something else manipulating you to that course...?"
"...I think that's enough for now, Seifer." Machine answered his partner. For now, he looked to Metal Drive to hear what his thoughts were about here.

The four were at an interesting point - and, unfortunately, the current question did not have an answer. Was someone in the Digital World truly orchestrating a vengeful response against DATS, or did the organization itself prop up a false motive to try and justify its own position? There was evidence to the latter argument, but certain large gaps of information made it a bit difficult to picture.
"Well... even if it wasn't thought up before to have them in the proper locations, maybe it would have been too obvious? They could have thought that-"
"Angel." The General cut off his partner. "The moment you try to force the pieces to fit into the puzzle, you've set yourself too far. Chasing phantoms that aren't there will only serve to get ourselves caught even faster." And to that, he turned his attention to Seifer. "If this interpretation is true, we aren't going to defeat DATS with current hypotheticals. There's a plan we can execute to force DATS' hand in this, but we need to be more-certain-than-not that the director or someone higher up is pressing their thumb on the scale. Otherwise, we'd be playing right into the real msaterminds' hands."
"Tch... so in the end, we have to leave it in the hands of these two..."
It was a risk that Denryu was willing to take from the start. The General gave a sigh, reached into his bag, and pulled out a pen - and, at this point in time, what would be an ancient piece of technology: a flip phone.
"If the director does have their hands in it, they're going to be taking particular note of your personal and business phones - but it'll be too risky to meet up in person, like we are today. It'll be suspicious of you to keep responding to the same data signal over and over." Writing something on the top page of the hotel pad, he tore off the top page, folded it around the form, and tossed the rest of the pad into his bag - to make sure the impression on the next page couldn't be tracked, if this room was investigated.
"This is a burner. Using this, you can text or contact me at any time if you figure something out - and its completely disconnected from the internet. This way, if you figure anything out, you can get the information to us without fully compromising yourself."
That was true - but there was another admission there. To be so comfortable organizing this, and to even think ahead on it?
How used to breaking the law was Metal Drive?

Agent Machine quickly agreed with Metal Drive on that argument. "Of course, if we make our moves assuming they're doing that, then all that does is exposes us, before we can home in on the truth." he mused, putting the side of his fist up to his mouth in thought.
However, that still didn't wash out the possibility in his mind - that the director was responsible for all this. Machine didn't know much about the director of Neo-DATS, only that Commander Hashimoto had quite a lot of contempt for him. But, knowing his power, he would be in a perfect position to both act as a saboteur and traitor, while at the same time, keep tabs on all his underlings to know that none of them were acting against him.
It was when Metal Drive presented the flip phone and, like clockwork, presented him with the means to use it if necessary that he realized that this may very well be the means that Machine may finally have an 'out' in all this.
"Yes... of course, these things don't have internet, but they're still dialable..." Machine remarked quietly to himself. With this, he smiled at the General. "I have a feeling of foul play at the top of our organization. However... there's one thing I need to ask you further before I trust you, and I really do need an honest answer to this. Metal Drive, what would your actions be if you were the head of DATS right now, from what you know?"
Machine needed to know this before he trusted him further. So far he had been impressed by Metal Drive's smarts and intuition, but, in this moment, he needed to trust him as a person. That he wouldn't exploit the power vacuum that would exist at the likely disgraceful dissolution of DATS. If that didn't exist, then, Machine couldn't trust him any further.

Machine posed a rather interesting question: what would Denryu do if he were the head of DATS right now? Angel gave a blink, misinterpreting the point right off the bat. "How would he know? We just went over why we didn't really know what was going on in the leader's head, right?"
Indeed, the question didn't make sense if you thought of it that way! To that, though, Denryu would just rest his hand right on top of the Renamon's head, giving a quick ruffle behind her ears. "You're right - but that's not what he's asking, Angel." The Renamon batted that hand away, crossing her arms in a huff, muttering and swearing about something under her breath. More to the point, what would Denryu do, right now, if he was the head of DATS?
"I think, after sorting out the immediate issues that come with this incident, I'd attempt to reach out to Terminus. Either publicly, or discretely - either is fine - and attempt to investigate the motive of how the attack in the real world happened. As advanced as our knowledge is on this side, its hard to imagine you would all have any sway in their world."
"And that's the crux of it." Denryu nodded: "I don't care for DATS. But if it has to exist, then it should be trying to build relations with the Digital World, rather than sealing them behind secrecy. There's nothing wrong with protecting the world from 'scary monsters' - but we don't have to make them monsters in the first place."

Agent Machine and Seifer listened to what Metal Drive had to say in answer to his question. To start with, he was grateful that he answered it at all, not really expecting an easy answer from this enigmatic individual.
The young man pondered the wisdom of these words for a few moments. It seemed that Metal Drive would want to get to the core of the problem, rather than try to contain or deny its existence. That he approved of.
And further to that, Metal Drive stated that he would want to build relations with the digital world instead of blocking it off. On this opinion, Agent Machine was more conflicted. Blocking off all contact with the digital world could be worth it, depending on the consequences, but, as far as he knew, and what his partner Seifer knew as well, those intentions wouldn't be a problem either. Especially considering the possibilities if humans and digimon worked together instead of in opposition to each other. If he was an older man, he would have this possibility closed off, but, at only 24, Agent Machine thought that there was value in this way of thinking.
"Okay. Thank you for meeting up with me tonight and telling us that." Agent Machine said to Metal Drive. He offered a handshake and continued. "In these troubled times, you've been very helpful in guiding our attention to where it matters. And... furthermore, I think you have your heart in the right place. If only it was so simple to bring forth that way of thinking. But... this is Japan, the elderly want security and safety and they vote; while the young keep quiet and withdrawn about what they want if they don't want to be the flower that grows highest and gets cut down."
As much as Agent Machine regretted it, that was the political reality here. Metal Drive seemed perfectly reasonable to a young person, but to an elderly person, they would seem pretty much alien.
"I think that's all we have time for tonight." Machine said to the blonde British young man. "I think the next time we'll talk is on this phone, neh?" he raised the flip-phone with a half-smile. "And, as a final thought, I really hope we can get through this without any human or digimon getting killed over it. As hard as it is to imagine, with so many forces working against that..."

"Trust me, political screw-ups aren't unique to Japan." Denryu gave a sigh at that, but nodded at Machine's assessment. "If we're right about what's going on with DATS internally, things are going to start moving very fast, very quickly. I know we're talking about some risky things here, but don't get yourself caught up in something you can't get out of."
"... If you can help it, anyway."
"Rare to see you advising being so cautious, D." Angel gave a chuckle, and as the conversation dwindled down, she stood up and stretched out her arms. "Guess you just need to make up a story about some rookie who you talked down with words or something."
"Well, I'm sure he's got experience writing the reports already, Angel." He returned a nod, to Angel and then to Machine. "Trust me, I'm not looking forward to what might happen on that negative end. Best I can, I'm not going to try and turn things intentionally violent."
That much, he could promise. He gave a click on his Xros Loader, a portal opening up behind him. The General stepped on through, as Angel gave a wave and a glance over her shoulder.
"Don't give your partner too much of a hard time, Hackmon."
She'd step through, and the portal would vanish.
