When the digivice entered Birdie's field of vision, she blinked away the vertigo and hopped forward once, getting just close enough to wrap her tail around the tiny device. She wasn't even sure if she had the strength to carry it, but she certainly tried. There was no way she'd let go of it again, especially not in her current form. The Keramon begged her to calm down and stop zapping everyone, a comment which would've elicited a snide chirp and rolled eyes had Birdie felt more like herself. Instead, she remained stationary in the snow, the wire of her tail holding the digivice tightly and the feather sparking on occasion, as if to warn the strangers not to get too close.
She was zoning out, barely hearing anything the Valaismon was saying as she stared blankly at the ground directly in front of her. Her vision faded momentarily before snapping back into focus when the human knelt down and offered the sushi rice balls again. He was still smiling, his pinkish cheeks a reminder of the abuse Birdie had inflicted on him, and something about that bothered the Puwamon. What was there to be so happy about? Why was he grinning like that? Hadn't he learned to fear her? She would've much rather seen him groveling on the floor, weeping and cowering under her crimson talons that smiling down at her the way he did. Oh, right... she didn't have talons.
His apology was a start, however, and the onigiri did look pretty tasty. She refused to budge, even after the human inched nearer, positioning the food so that it was only a few centimeters in front of her face. He was willing to hand-feed her if need be, a fact which made Birdie feel uncomfortable for some unknown reason. It was better to think of it as him being her servant, willing to wait on her hand and foot, but she just couldn't. The whole thing felt degrading, almost. Her large, blue eyes shifted from the human to the Peckmon and Valaismon standing directly behind him, watching and waiting with anticipation to see what she'd do. The Peckmon nodded, urging her on.
She needed her strength, they were right about that. Plus, she had acquired her digivice, so there was nothing preventing her from taking the food... except perhaps the fact that the one who was giving it to her was a human, but did that really matter right now? Birdie's gaze returned to the man. She watched him for a long moment, studying his features and trying to decide whether he could be trusted. When her belly growled, she narrowed her eyes into angry slits and pressed her face against the rice ball, consuming the food with an unseen mouth that was probably hidden under all the fur and feathers.
She ate quickly, partially afraid that they would take the food away and mock her for being too weak to stop them. Though the glare and ruffled feathers made her look unapproachable and unfriendly, the electricity on her tail ceased its relentlessly sparking. She was on edge, alert to any and all sights or sounds. Even though she wanted the food and didn't want anyone to take it away, she didn't trust anyone getting close to her while her defenses were down. She wouldn't let them take the digivice. If she got the impression that anyone was getting too close, she'd pull away from the food and move farther behind the Keramon for protection. However, if no one approached then she'd eat the onigiri until the only thing left was a few grains of rice.

"...I'm almost curious as to who she is. Must have good ta--..." Did they just fucking call her KERAMON? It only hit her just now that she hadn't introduced herself in the slightest! "Oh. Um. I have a name. It's Mae. Nice to meet you, I guess..."
...She wasn't letting on that she had seen these people before. During Golden Week, yes. But they hadn't really spoken to each other at all. Such was changing now, but it was still something interesting to consider. The Keramon put a hand on her chin. Was the Puwamon truly fearful, or was she just lashing out thanks to something else? She simply stood still, meanwhile. Her presence seemed to be something that inspired the Puwamon to hide behind her, no?
If that'd be one way to help calm her down, then so be it. "Someone seems pretty hungry..." Mae murmured quietly, wondering if she should've gotten something to eat before her walk.

Welp, as it turned out, neither the trio, nor the Keramon actually introduced themselves properly to one another. Guess it was time to quickly rectify it, "Yeah, guess we kinda forgot to introduce ourselves. I'm Kenny, that Valaismon is Skadi, my partner, and that Peckmon accompanying us is Odin. Sorry about that, Mae." He awkwardly chuckled in response.
Regardless, nobody dared to move a single muscle or say anything as the Puwamon started to dine on the tuna onigiri. But Kenny couldn't help but observe how something that lacked a proper mouth could actually eat at all, glancing at the Puwamon. One part of him wanted to urge the In-Training to slow down just so she wouldn't accidentally choke herself to death, but could she blame her for eating that fast, considering she was probably very hungry right now?
Finally, after the Puwamon finished off, leaving nothing but leftover morsels in his palm, Kenny gave another gentle smile towards the In-Training, as he dusted himself off, making sure that none of the leftover rice would hit the Puwamon by mistake, "Wasn't that delicious, little guy?" He asked the little ball of feathers, hoping his little act of generosity curried a lot of favour.
"See, we told you we weren't going to hurt you." Skadi chimed in, also smiling at the little Digimon, "We just wanted to help you out any way we could. If you come with us back to Ys, we can get you more food, warm shelter, and even get you back to normal and find your tamer as soon as possible. What do you say, you want to come with us?" Had they clearly proven to the Puwamon she could actually trust them? Because the last thing they wanted was to have the creature unintentionally bounce off to her own demise, and if the cold didn't get her, a wild Digimon probably would.

Birdie hadn't realized how hungry she truly was until she'd finished eating the rice ball. It was just satisfying enough to make her realize how empty her stomach was. Plus, the energy it provided was greatly appreciated. She wanted more, and she tried to communicate this with an excited chirp when the human -- who had introduced himself as Kenny only moments prior -- asked if it was delicious. It was, more than she expected it to be. It was then that the Valaismon, Skadi, tried to reassure her that they were only trying to help. Actions spoke louder than words, and they had proven themselves trustworthy... for now, at least.
The tiny Puwamon looked around her surroundings with large, blue eyes as Skadi offered a proposition: if she'd let them, the group would bring her to the capital city of Ys, would give her food and shelter, and would even help her find Unica. It sounded like they wanted something in return, but Birdie had nothing to give them. Were they really willing to do so much without the promise of a reward? This seemed unlikely. Everyone wanted something. But the fact remained, these folks were eating out of the palm of her hand, willing to do anything for her. It definitely fed into her self-important narrative. She'd play along, at least until she digivolved again. From there, she could decide whether she wanted them to dispose of them.
The question of whether or not she'd even be able to get past the barrier surrounding Ys remained, for she had malintent directed at anyone and everyone who crossed her path, even those who agreed to help her right now. However, she'd figure it out if it came to that. For now, she whistled and bounced in place, doing her best to express an eagerness to get going. Once Birdie believed that she had successfully conveyed her message, she turned and began hopping in the direction of the city, its blurry features visible on the horizon. It would take some time to get there at this pace, especially if she had to keep stopping due to exhaustion, but she was determined.

At the veeeery least, the trio was willing to take the small Puwamon back to Ys. That was something that Mae thought was a lot more conducive than lecturing what she saw as a baby. She simply kept a careful eye on the Puwamon, looking between Birdie and Skadi. "It's a pretty fair deal, honestly speaking..." The Keramon spoke quietly, before the Puwamon started to hop off in the direction of the city.
"...I think she made up her mind." Mae noted, as she rose to her full height and began to follow Birdie, beckoning for Skadi, Odin and Kenny to come with. "Someone needs to go protect her, right?" The Keramon questioned. She was rather uncertain as to what lay in store for them, but to look into the future for this would be a rather grave misuse of such an ability....

Mae's suggestion had worked like a charm; feeding the Puwamon had more than helped to curry favour with the group, if the happy sounding chirping was anything to go by so far. Their patience had defiantly paid off, and now the Puwamon was willing to listen to them. And having Mae praise Skadi for her offer did feel a little good too, as the Valaismon smiled sadly at the Keramon, "Poor thing just looked so scared and lonely. We couldn't just pass her and leave her out there to die in a harsh environment like this. Someone had to go help her out."
Speaking of the offer, the Puwamon, through her unintelligible happy cries and equally energetic bouncing, had happily taken it on board, and normally, at this point, Kenny would've tried to pick her up, digivolve Skadi to her Canandenmon form, and take her there themselves. But the Puwamon had other ideas, bounding away over to the city as much as her stubby little baby body could take her before anyone could wrap their hands around her. For a brief moment, Kenny and Skadi watched the baby bounce away before Mae started to follow them, all the while commenting about the In-Training.
"Yeah, you're right, Mae." Kenny shrugged, as he gestured the other 2 Digimon to come follow him as well, which they did, before catching up to her and the Puwamon, "She's still a little weak, she's gonna need all the help she needs. Hopefully she doesn't end up exhausting herself halfway there, at the very least."
"Can't say I don't blame her, though." Skadi pointed out, "If I was her, I'd try and get there as soon as possible. Hopefully we can find her a place to stay while we find her tamer."
"Of course we will, Skadi. Don't worry." He replied with a chuckle, before turning over to Mae once more, "Honestly Mae, we can't thank you enough for what you did today. If it weren't for you, we'd be going nowhere fast. Thanks for helping us today, man." Frankly, that Keramon had been a huge help for them. And admittedly, he did find that Keramon kinda weirdly cute too. Not that he minded.

There wasn't much to do other than keep moving forward. Birdie was able to make it about halfway back to the spot she had originally teleported to before she had to stop and catch her breath. Any idea of carrying the small Puwamon was quickly squashed, for her tail continued to spark with static electricity, threatening anyone who dared touch her while her back was turned. However, she didn't have the energy to keep it energized all the time, so the sparks appeared at random intervals. Enough to keep the other three away, at least. And that was her intention. Being carried would be nice, sure, but she still didn't trust these idiots enough to allow herself to be at their mercy. She continued making her way across the frigid plains, the digivice still wound tightly in her tail, seemingly unaffected by the electricity that coursed through the wire on occasion. Even when they came across the disrupted snow that told the story of Birdie skidding through the snow in her rookie form, she didn't stop or acknowledge in in any way.

"I don't think anyone in their right mind would leave a child behind in this weather..." Mae admitted towards the trio. "And she might just tire herself out, but that just means we need to stick closer for the moment...Even if she's insistent on shocking everyone except me for some reason..." The Keramon continued as she moved to follow Birdie, turning her head to Kenny before tilting it. "Oh...? Um...No problem. I-It's fine. You three did try your best, in all sincerity..." It seemed the creature was not necessarily used to thanks. Or compliments like that. Not that Kenny had done anything wrong here, of course.
There were a number of things she could take issue with here, namely the tracks that had begun to emerge from something that wasn't a Puwamon...Tracks? No, just disrupted snow. Wonder what had happened here. "...Where are you taking us...?" She asked the Puwamon.

Mae was right. They did have to stick close to the Puwamon, lest she get jumped by something bigger, stronger, and deadlier, even if they had to keep their distance to avoid her electrifying tail. Sure it wouldn't hurt much, if at all, but that alone was more than enough for everyone there to get the blatantly obvious memo.
Kenny just chuckled and gave a light smile over to Mae as she complimented them in turn, "Ah, it's OK, Mae. Honestly, this isn't exactly my first time trying to calm wild baby Digimon. Admittedly, they can be a little... unpredictable, so they say." He gave a knowing glance to Skadi, making the sheep giggle a little mischievously. That first meeting was now permanently ingrained to their brains.
But as they walked along, a telltale patch of snow the group passed by stuck out like a sore thumb. It was obviously much larger than the Puwamon, but small enough to hint that a Rookie-level caused it. The fact that the Puwamon paid no heed to it, along with the Digivice, had clearly hinted that something or someone happened to her. Still, the 4 kept walking ahead. Once the Puwamon was all better and more trusting, maybe she could spill the beans on the whole affair.

Birdie refused to acknowledge the disturbed snow because she didn't want anyone asking questions about it. Fortunately for her, the plan had worked. They walked past the region without hesitation or a single word spoken about what may have happened here. Good. The group kept heading toward the Ancient Capital of Ys, mostly silent save for the Keramon asking where exactly Birdie was bringing them. The tiny Puwamon rolled her eyes and considered ignoring the question, but decided it'd be better if she continued playing the cheerful, innocent role of a newly hatched Baby Digimon. She stopped briefly and turned to her companions. She forced a happy expression and chirped. "Ys," she tried to say, but it only came out as a high pitched whistle. Good enough. She turned back around and continued making her way across the Shining Sea. ...Ugh, this was taking forever. But they'd get there eventually.

"Well, of course. Babies...tend to be like that, from what I've seen." Mae hadn't had much experience with baby Digimon, but what little she had bore the potential to make all the difference in...trying to ensure a single Puwamon wasn't hurt, or worse, deleted. Sure, that was a bit of an exaggeration, but anything could happen here.
She otherwise opted to dismiss the disturbed snow. What had happened here could likely be visited at another point in time. Plus, it didn't seem as though the Puwamon could talk about it. If she even wished to, that is.
...
Actually, she did just prove she could talk. "Ys?" Mae repeated, the Keramon tilting her head. "Ah. I've been there--have plenty of friends there, too. Such...sweet people, even if I only know most of them through borrowed memories..." The Keramon murmured, before she trailed off.
Outside of the occasional noise the Digimon produced from trailing along snow, she didn't have much else to say at the moment.

Honestly, it wouldn't take a genius to figure that, through the Puwamon's attempt to speak to the rest of the group, that they were talking about Ys. But frankly, that came as no surprise; it was basically a safe haven for non-evildoers and members of KIZNA alike. And for someone as fragile as this aforementioned In-Training Digimon, somehow landing nearby to Ys was practically a blessing for her.
And, amusingly enough, Mae wasn't exactly alone in that sentiment, but at the mention of 'borrowed memories' slightly raised an eyebrow on both tamer and his Digimon. But, lest anyone probe and pry the Keramon for what seemed to be something pretty personal, Kenny just smiled at Mae, "Ys' become like a second home for the both me and Skadi ever since we joined KIZNA, honestly. Yeah, it can get a little nippy there sometimes, but I don't really mind myself. I don't think Skadi minds either."
Skadi nodded as she caught up to Kenny, "At least we haven't dealt with a crazy strong blizzard here yet, so that's a plus!" She joked to Mae. Hopefully steering the conversation away from something a little more personal would help Mae, even in the short term.
"Good. I've dealt with enough blizzards in my travels to last me far too many lifetimes for me to count." Odin quipped in turn, "And enough heatwaves, to boot."
Other than that, they'd just follow the Puwamon a little more until they hit Ys. It was gonna take a bit, but thankfully no danger had seriously reared it's ugly head. And with any luck, things would stay that way, at least for now.

Birdie didn't care what the others talked about; she'd long since tuned them out anyway. The trip to Ys took a while, much longer than she had originally anticipated, but that was due in part to her constantly having to stop and take a breather. The others had learned not to get too close, and so even though it would've been faster for someone to carry her, they let her be. Nothing of great importance happened -- at least, as far as Birdie was concerned -- on their way to the massive city. Her companions made small talk along the way and largely avoided talking about anything of value. As the group approached the outskirts of Ys, the young Puwamon chirped and whistled eagerly, partially out of genuine excitement to finally be out of the cold and partially to keep up the charade of being a boisterous infant. Things were looking up! Just a few meters before she could get some food and shelter!

A second home, they said? The Keramon couldn't help but offer the two a warm smile. "Knowing the people who make up the top brass at KIZNA...I'm sure they're happy that you two see it that way." They empathized bonds more than anything, right? Right? Regarding the weather, though.
"You usually encounter the blizzards near Terabyte Mountain. That's where they're at their most violent, truthfully. One will not pass over us here." She said that with a strange certainty, especially for a Keramon that was just wandering the frozen tundra.
...Mae didn't look into the future before coming here. Honest. Well, she did but mostly to see how the weather would be. As they drew ever closer to Ys, though, a bad feeling came over Mae for some reason. She couldn't really...discern why, though. She had to keep her attention on the Puwamon. "Hey, you holding up okay, kiddo?"
She seemed excited. Being out of the cold was one thing, but would there be more to this?

Things seemed to be looking up for the lost Puwamon so far. So who could blame them for being so happy after being lost and alone in the cold snow? You'd be too if you found yourself lost in what you'd though was the middle of nowhere, only to find help from high places from what looked to be the residents that called this place home. Still, they kept their distance from them, lest they accidentally agitate them once more.
Kenny couldn't help but crack a smile back at Mae at her first statement, as did Skadi. Odin on the other hand? "Heh. I don't blame 'em myself. I've hung out with them for a while. You can really feel the 'family' aspect of the team oozing out of every crevice imaginable. I'm sure that little guy's gonna feel this way the second they step= well, bounce inside." He remarked in response.
As for the blizzards? Kenny internally breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Mae point out the truth, "Well, thank God for that. No wonder this place's been feeling real cozy around here. But I bet that Puwamon down there's happy to hear that they're really safe in there." He looked down to the little Puwamon and offered a smile, "You like that, little fellow? You're gonna be safe!"
Still, they walked some more, and as Ys loomed over the distance, Mae would voice her concerns to the Puwamon. "I know you're excited and everything, but you don't want to burn yourself out too quickly. When we get to Ys, there's gonna be a lot of fun things to do and see there." She proclaimed, "Maybe we could take you out for a treat or something?"
Nothing else to do here other than to wait and find out.
