It would be an afternoon like any other in the cabin. With the boxes finally unpacked and the rooms up and running, Syre, Holly, Silence, and even Mikemon would find themselves out of the house and in town a lot more often... and why not? Their valuables were secured in a hidden safe, Stingmon was generally there to watch the place, and it was a nice, cozy abode to return home to.
And when Holly would return that afternoon, for one reason or another, she would see something that she, perhaps, would never think she'd see again:
A single, black, gilded envelope on top of her pillow.

Holly was enjoying herself.
For the first time in a while she was actually enjoying herself being out of the house, getting things ready. Prepping for schooling, going through documents regarding kizna. Looking into things on her own on various projects she busied herself with. Everything seemed to be coming together for her.
But one afternoon, she had decided to come home a little early. Without her parent, without her sister, without her brother and without silence. TO find that single envelope on her bedding. The gilded black envelope that sat on her pillow.
Her first reaction was to grab the envelope, her hands poised to rip it apart. But something stopped her, her pupils dilated and the meicrackmon cursed her inability to outdo her curiousity with that of proper reason. Grimacing to herself she'd slide a claw along the stem of the envelope, working it open and with a grumble she'd pull whatever was inside out into her hands...
She just hoped they didn't expect her to come back to the fold. She had no desire to be an assassin. Not anymore, she wanted to help people and would of rathered they left her alone!

In the coming moments, Holly was perhaps going to be somewhat glad that she didn't simply rip that envelope to shreds. As she lifted it up and opened it, the MeiCrackmon would be aware that this would be a relatively thick envelope - and on the front side was several bills, totaling to about the same number of bits as she would have gotten for performing a single job for Fall Lane. Behind that was an important-looking document - a deed, with the seal of Luminas certifying its authenticity, for the bar above the hideout.
As for the letter itself?
Holly,
I hope this letter finds you well. Unfortunately, current circumstances within the guild make it nearly impossible for us to operate, and so we have chosen to disband. You know that several of us have significant bounties on our head, and its no longer wise for us to remain in Luminas.
I'll be honest, I won't know if you'll ever read this letter, but of all of us, you are the only one here who managed to keep their heart fully in tact.
Fall Lane is yours. If you choose to seek it out, maybe you'll find an answer or two on your own.
You were a kind spirit that I was blessed to know. I pray we never meet again.
Boss

Holly blinked slowly as she was greeted with the sight of bills. She'd stare at them for a few long moments before setting them aside. Her core was racing and with a growl she'd read the letter itself. Line after line she felt herself slowly deflate. She'd sit on the bed, staring at it for a long time. Flicking her ears she'd growl into her wristlet. Pulling up the text system for it. Grumbling she'd punch in a message to her da...
Hey da, I got a letter from the guys from fall lane. I... need you to come back home and take a look at this.
She'd sigh softly and hit send. Reading it over again; she had kept her heart if only because of iris' help. Because of guru's wise teachings and her families acceptance of what she did. Holly turned her hands over a few times and after a moment she'd send a picture to her sister, flicking her ears as she deigned not to keep this a secret from any member of her immediate family.
She wouldn't bother siris or silence with this though... they had enoguh on their plates as it was.
"...What would I even do with a place like that..."

Alright, I'll be there in about a half hour.
That would give Holly some time to think at the very least - and a good thirty-five minutes later, the front door would open, and Mikemon would soon be sitting next to Holly in her room. He read through the letter himself, front-to-back, as well as inspected the deed that came along with it.
"... It looks like this was finalized about a week ago, in your name. Its either real, or so good of a forgery that I wouldn't be able to pick out that its fake." He gave a sigh, setting it back down as he crossed his arms. Obviously, he didn't like it: the money was probably blood money, and there was no guarantee that Fall Lane was a completely secure place. "If it were up to me, I'd simply sell the property - though we might have to do a pass-through of the hide-out to clear it out."
Aside from that, he'd give a sigh, shaking his head. "As for the money, that's up to you. Well, I mean, you're an adult now, you can handle this situation however you'd want, but... just ask, and I'll give you a hand."

Holly let out a soft sigh and shook her head at seeing his message. A half hour of her pouring over the letter and after a good fifteen minutes or so the meicrackmon would be laying on her back. Staring up at the cieling for up until her da came back. She'd rub her neck and roll onto her side, staring quietly at her da as he spoke.
"They may of been assassins Da, but they were honest. If they wanted something from me they would of just said it..."
The meicrackmon stared at the money and she'd tut softly before sitting up. She'd flick her ears slightly and stare at her Da as he told her what he would do. She'd rub at her chin and then glance thoughtfully at the desk.
"But it's not up to you. I think I'll fix up the place, make it something that can be properly lived in. Have the basement, where all the assassin stuff just be a lab. Proper privacy and whatnot."
The meicrackmon tilted her head as he said that the money was up to her. She'd grumble a bit at him telling her that she was an adult now... and that she could handle this sitation however she wanted. She'd huff and suck at one of her fangs.
"I don't feel like one, I feel like a kid still. Just making dumb choice after dumb choice. I probably wouldn't get much for the property if I sold it... That and this also means we'd have two places to stay?"
Holly fidgeted a little bit and looked down at her hands and then clenched them.
"If this isn't a trap. There's a part of me that doesn't like this. Lets say I went, would you come with me to check this place out?"

On one hand, Holly was quick to say that it wasn't up to dad - but in the other, she mentioned that she still felt like a kid, given how her decisions played out. Hearing that, Mikemon's ear gave a twitch, the cat shaking his head as he gave a small smirk.
"Trust me, you've grown a lot over these past couple of years, Holly. That you're able to look back at your decisions like that is proof enough of it." He gave a sigh: "And you're right, there's definitely a chance that this is a trap. Honest as your friends were, keep in mind the company they kept. Its... possible that Luminas themselves orchestrated this all and is trying to lure in the last one."
As he said that, though, he looked back over the letter. "But... I doubt it. This, at the very least, was written in earnest."
For the main question at hand, though? He folded that letter, and gave a nod. "Of course, I'll keep an eye out for you and go with you. Though... hm..."
He blinked. "... Luminas ain't exactly a fan of me..."

Holly rubbed at her neck, looking down at the letter unsure of what she really should do. Considering everything lain out in front of her, this could rightfully be a trap and if it was well... She'd have a rough time fighting indoors like that wouldn't she? She wasn't like her ma in that regard, where one of her forms had prowess in the city like that. The meiccrackmon let out a little tsk and frowned.
"Has it really been a few years already? It doesn't really feel like it..."
The meicracckcmon tutted and fell back on her bed, staring up at the cieling as she considered what to do proper about this. If luminas did this there was no escape from it, they would likely find a more devious way to deal with her if that was the case. Her ears flicked and she'd raise her hand making a so-so motion.
"Boss could of written it with the intent and never sent it. Only to have luminas find it after they were done wiping them out or something. I doubt that was the case honestly but... A trap is a trap is a trap."
Holly's face darkened and the meicrackmon bit down on her lower lip, this was bad. If they didn't like her dad what was stopping them from lying through their teeth to get her to come into a trap?
"If luminas isn't a fan of you, would you put it past them to use whatever that is to get their hands on one of your only daughters? Ergo one with a connection to them already in some fashion?"
She'd sit up and crack her knuckles, grimacing as she thought it out. How were they going to do this. She'd wag a finger at her da.
"Is there someone you trust that you can send with me then? If they aren't a fan of you it'd be better if you didn't go..."

"Time certainly flies, doesn't it?"
Mikemon gave a smile, followed by a sigh as Holly collapsed back against her bed. This was still far from ideal: a potential trap, by Holly's pessimistic guess, in the depths of a land that might still want his head for the '8-C' incident'. He bit his lip at the idea that Holly might by targeted, but he shook his head at that. "You've been doing fine at the school, right? The new Luminas is very careful with what they can and can't do. As for going with you..."
Hm. Considering it for a moment, the cat stretched his arms, a brief light pulsing over his form, Beastmon appearing where the cat stood a few seconds later. The doctor gave a sigh, looking down at her claws, as she gave a smirk.
"Well, they don't even know I can do this. So this should be fine, hun."

"It... really does I guess. It feels like just yesterday that you and ma picked me up from the village."
The meicrackmon sighed softly and shook her head, feeling a little... Out of sorts all considering. Holly missed her mother dearly and it was still obvious by the emphsis that she put on that single word. Then at his question she'd sigh again, flicking her ears back.
"In the classes? Yeah. Everything's easy. In the social aspect? Far from ideal."
The meicrackmon grumbled and shifted on her bed. She was limited to her rookie form while attending because everyone thought that was her champion one and it wasn't so of course she got picked on by the 'stronger' kids that for the most part hadn't touched ultimate or mega... Or even thought about attaining super mega. The meicrackmon's brows shot up at seeing her da take a beastmon form. She didn't even know her da could take that one!
"...Well I guess that solves that. I've got a portal thingie for getting to school so lets just... use that to get near there and we can walk from there yeah?"
A hop, skip and a portal away would take the two to in front of the rather impressive school that holl was going to. Sure there were some guards that wandered about from time to time, but honestly they had gotten used to seeing holly pop in and out as busy as she was outside of school. Some looked bored, some looked curious at her 'companion' and others just ignored the pair entirly.
The meicrackmon shrugged her shoulders and gestured for her da to follow her, taking them quickly through the streets of luminas. She was rather quick on her feet even in champion and if her da wasn't careful she'd lose him by mistake. Though if she did it wouldn't take her long to find out.
Maybe about fifteen or so minutes later the two would be standing in front of the 'home' of that particular group of assassins. She'd grit her teeth, staring up at the building. There had been a lot of sour memories for her, and seeing this place again brought up those deaths that had stained her young heart.
"..."
The meicrackmon stepped forward reaching out to open the door...

The walk from campus to Fall Lane was largely uneventful. Sure, Beastmon got a few glances in her direction, but it was hardly for the reason that the doctor was concerned about before coming here! They kept their heads down, moved over those several blocks, and would soon make that way to that familiar, run-down bar. As Holly would try the door, she'd find it locked, but a key included with the letter would open it right up.
The entrance was the same as it ever was, if not a bit more dusty for lack of use. A quick inspection of the counter would show that the taps had been disconnected and the gas turned off, meaning whoever wrapped this place up?
"Well, they had time to close it properly." The doctor sighed, and eventually, they would be forced to look at the 'entrance' to the base proper, a single seat with a particular switch under the chair. Once activated, Holly (soon followed by the doctor) would find themselves in the basement of the base - landing, thankfully, on the same cushioning as before. Aside from that?
Sheer silence. The main meeting area wasn't even lit anymore, probably making Holly stumble through the dark to find a switch. Once it was lit up, she'd find the place just as dusty as the room above, and the main meeting area was empty. All that remained was their meeting table and a few scraps of paper around the sides of the room... but, somehow?
It didn't feel as if they were alone - like a single data signal was encroaching around them.

Holly crossed her arms, seeing the state of the inside. She'd slowly shake her head; this place was dusty but past that? It was well taken care of, there had been a lot of love for this place even though it was a den of assassins looking to make their living in the world. The meicrackmon's inspections of the taps made her hum a little bit. Did she have to talk to the city about getting those turned back on or would she have to do it herself? Something she'd have to take care of on a later date.
"I bet it was sad when they had to do it. They spent a lot of time here."
She remembered easily where the button was, what she had to do. She'd stand there quietly in the sheer silence of the main meeting area. Her eyes having little issue adjusting to the dark; though she still had to be careful. There was a lot less light in here with it being underground. With a flick of the switch the meicrackmon shielded her eyes as the lights turned on. The dust of this place spoke to her and made her heart twist a bit.
That single data signal that encroached around them made the meicrackmon growl. Her claws sliding out of their sheathes but there was a moment where she felt like she wasn't in immediate danger. If she had to guess...
"...Iris?"
It would make sense that he stayed here. Where else would he go? The shademon lived and breathed this stuff. The assassin nonsense would of been something he couldn't get out of or with people leaving this place felt a lot more hollow... That and they were in the middle of luminas where he would be snuffed out if he went too far. Perhaps the shademon was trapped?

Was it Iris?
As Holly gave that guess, the data signal would condense, around them, undeterred my Holly's own threatening posture. And once the signal had 'gathered' enough, the MeiCrackmon would be able to make it out: the familiar shadowy lines, the occasional red eye flicking from the shadow, and a much more recognizable data signal. As if it were returning home, the presence slipped right into Holly's shadow, the shadow darkening before it settled right on in.
"... I take it you know him?" The doctor was skeptical, shaking his head, as the Shademon whispered into Holly's mind.
Interesting. I was only going to stay a day or two to see if you'd show up. Iris' familiar voice echoed through Holly's head. Formalities aside, it is good to see you again. I trust you have questions?
"You know," the Beastmon sighed, poking at the shadow, "Its a bit rude to leave me out of the conversation here. Holly, you alright?"

Holly frowned slightly and narrowed her eyes, if it wasn't Iris they would be in a lot of trouble. But the familiar signal that came from it soothed the meicrackmon's nerves and she'd shift from her defensive stance to one that was far more relaxed. A hand on the hip, a dangling arm that gently swayed... But her tail spoke that she was ready to strike given a moment's notice.
"He was the one responsible for my... career path choice at first."
The meicrackmon grimaced a bit; as she knew that would strike a nerve with mikemon. Though she found the whispering of the shademon into her mind rather soothing. She'd sigh softly and the whispers would bounce back towards the shademon.
We couldn't very well just leave things be. It is good to see you again Iris; I've... missed you. I do have questions but my Da is right. Can we speak out in the open?
The meicrackmon flicked her ears and her eyes slid to her da. She'd gently pat his shoulder and manage a small yet somewhat tired smile.
"I'm fine Da, I'm used to Iris being in my shadow. Heck he was in it most of the time when I worked."
The meicrackmon let out a small chuckle and shook her head, her tail flicking a bit. She did look just fine, if anything the voice of the Shademon soothed her a bit. But only a fraction as it reminded her of a time that her ma was around. That thought on it's own was lost and she'd turn her head slightly.
"Tell us what happened. Why boss thought it'd be a good idea to disband. Why he gave it to me out of everyone... Tell me what they felt before they left. Tell me what you were going to do if we didn't come in those few days. Shadow or not... Assassin or not you can't fight a city."

It was definitely a bit weird to see Holly speak of Iris so fondly - and yes, a bit irksome to hear that the shadow was responsible for Holly's initial career choice - but what the doctor noticed most was just how relaxed the cat was in the Shademon's presence. Holly's words were calm, as if she was talking to an old, dear friend.
"Well, I have missed the comfort of such a 'warm' spirit. I can't say the other ones around here had her optimism."The shadow spoke, and moments later, the specter took shape, that amorphous form peeling himself off of the floor to make... well, a strange, shadowy shape whose outline flickered like a dark flame. This might have been the first time Holly'd actually seen Iris by himself!
"Heh, you think we'd take on the city, Holly? You really have been away from us for a while." The Shademon flickered as he considered his words. "Call it irony, but its actually the 'New Luminas' that made it impossible for us to operate as effectively."
"Wait... seriously?" The Beastmon arched her brow. "You'd think the old regime would, well, be against this line of work."
"On paper, yes, but it was much easier for them to simply pretend that we didn't exist at all - rather than admit the shadow right underneath them. But now that Luminas is turning over every rock to try and get the rats out, Boss knew it was only a matter of time."
Alright, simple enough. "As for why we would give it to you? Well, Ms. Academic Student, you're about the only one of our lot who can stay here, so why leave it to waste?" At that note, a creak echoed from upstairs, the Beastmon's ear flicking as she glanced upwards. And Iris simply whispered one word into Holly's ear.
Vanish.
