John was starting to get annoyed by this place, every moment made less sense then the last, he was tired despite having just woken up a little bit ago, people looked at you at the same time for saying something wrong, they disappeared right in front of you, and now a Mojyamon is saying that he talked with someone who made static noises when he talked.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, for a moment or two too long. “Man what is with this place?! Nothing is seeming to work right here.” he said sighing, Runa patted him on the back. “We’ll figure this out, I’m sure.” she said, making him feel a little better.
They then went to introductions, after the others introduced themselves, John waved with his free hand. “Nice to meet you, my name’s John, this is my partner Runa.” He nods his head to her, she’s annoyed that he gave her name without asking, but she decided to not bother this time. “This guy here… I think he’s passed out, didn’t give me a name. Excuse me for a moment.” He said, making his way inside to drop the guy off, he was getting tired of carrying him around everywhere.

Mojyamon tilted his head in confusion as Alan spoke, the tilt deepening the longer the human went on. "Well, uh," he started, scratching his head with a single thick finger. "I heard words that time. Though that might as well've been static, if you're asking me." There were a few too many big words and high-concept ideas in that explanation for poor Mojyamon to comprehend.
Kenny's explanation was a bit easier for him to grasp. He sighed a little in relief, the gentle tone easing some of his readily-apparent nerves. He leaped a little in shock at as Skadi suddenly hugged him, but after his initial startling leaned into it. "Yeah. Yeah, I think you're right, pal," he admitted. "I'm not gonna pretend I've got any idea what you're talking about. But I know there's something weird about this place, and if you guys've got a handle on what, I guess I can trust you. I think." While his smile was uneasy, at least it was genuine; that was one loose end the trio wouldn't need to worry about.
Only this trio was a quartet! Or, at least, it would be if the door that John tried to enter wanted to work. No matter how hard he'd try to move the curtain in order to go inside, it just wouldn't let him pass. It was as if it had frozen in mid-ripple, and was now little more than a solid sheet of ice. Not even the wrinkles on its cloth would deform as it was touched. While he could try to peak inside, he would only see a shadowy void. Occasionally the shadows seemed to move, but their shapes were impossible to discern. Maybe it was just a trick of the light (or more accurately, the lack thereof.)
As they discussed their next plan of action, a ShimaUnimon trundled past the group. Five figures bundled tightly in blankets sat in the back of its cart, hands folded on their laps and heads pointed straight forward. They didn't move, speak, or even react, even as their driver stopped to cast a baleful look at the humans to its right. It opened its mouth, as if to say something, before shaking its head and beginning to trot away.
It seemed to be heading right towards the spire.

Throughout Alan's explanation to Mojyamon, Kenny found himself scratching his head a little bit in confusion. What was this about a 'perception filter', or whatever it was? Who could blame Mojyamon for being confused himself, considering everything he'd gone through himself so far? He just gave an aside glance over to Alan, "...I think we should save all the complicated explanations for later, at least when everything's settled down."
Thankfully, the duo's reassuring comments (plus Skadi's hug) had managed to win Mojyamon over easily. Leaning down on his knees to get onto both Mojyamon and Skadi's level, he smiled at him while gently patting the yeti's head, "Yeah, you can trust us. After all, we're a team, and a good team sticks together, no matter what happens." He reassured him. As soon as Skadi broke away from the hug, Kenny would pull Mojyamon up from the snow.
As John walked off to drop off the stranger, Skadi opted to follow behind to protect them, with Kenny staying behind to look after Mojyamon. However, as she reached the building along with John, trying and failing to open the blinds, Skadi quickly took notice of something a little... odd inside as she tried to take a peek.
"Whoa..." She whispered a little quietly. Just what was going on in there? Blobs were moving around everywhere, but it was hard to discern what was going on. She tilted her head a little in confusion, just trying to comprehend just what was going on,
She turned up to John with a little shrug, "...I guess this place doesn't really accept newcomers here, to be honest. Think we should find somewhere else as soon as possible?" She walked off once more, back to the group, expecting John to follow suit.
With everyone regrouped once more, the sound of footsteps trotting through the snow could be heard, making Kenny and Skadi turn their heads to the source; another ShimaUnimon pulling another cart, only pausing to take a good look at the group before heading off once more, presumably on the path to the spire.
It was almost if like God, Buddha and Arceus heard their prayers.
As soon as ShimaUnimon and the others started to move off, Kenny turned back to the rest of the group, while Skadi kept her eyes on the cart, "Looks like we found our one-way ticket to the spire, you guys. We might be able to get to the bottom of this, yet!" He grinned to the rest of them before turning back and gesturing them with a simple wave of his hand, "Follow me, everybody!"
Kenny and Skadi's walking speed was more or less slow and casual as to not arouse suspicion once more, nor to set off the proverbial tripwire that caught them on the initial trudge before. As they walked, Skadi had an arm draped on Mojyamon's shoulder, as she gave him a kind smile, and another affectionate nuzzle. After all the apparent stress and strain thrown onto him, Skadi's friendliness would more than likely be a huge help for him.
Once they reached ShimaUnimon, Kenny waved to him, opting to speak up first, "Hey, uh, ShimaUnimon, we'd like to take a ride on your cart, please. Do you have room for 7 more?" He asked him kindly.
Skadi looked up at ShimaUnimon with a worried look, "Mojyamon's kind of feeling a little confused and worried. We need to get him some help as soon as possible. Would you mind letting us on, please ShimaUnimon?" It was clear she wasn't just doing it to stop Belphmon, she really wanted to do it for Mojyamon's sake.

"Well, it's nice to meet you two," Alan would reply to the pair of newercomers to the realm. He believed he owed Mojyamon an apology for confusing him. The yeti-like digimon had been through a lot, after all, as far as he could tell. "Hey, uh, sorry about all that nonsense I've been saying. I'm not exactly on the top of my game either." He leaned in ever so slightly: "But I'm not letting that get me down." The human added this part a bit quietly compared to the rest of what he was saying, out of an emerging tendency towards caution. "Anyway, you must have been through quite a lot. Let's get us all somewhere safe, yeah?"
With this, Alan noted that Skadi and Kenny were already speaking with the cart-pulling ShimaUnimon who had given them the evil eye not a moment earlier. He tried not to pay the current passengers too much mind with his gaze. To him, their wrappings evoked the image of a cart pulling in newly-scavenged corpses, covered so the public was spared a grizzly sight. Even so, he would politely join in on the conversation, Levi casually trailing behind him, making sure to keep very close to his partner. "Excuse me, but... just to be sure, might I ask where this cart is headed?"

John tries and tries to open the door, he pushes, pulls, even tries to slide it sideways, but he has no luck., thinking it was just stuck, he moves to the window. “Hey uh, your door won’t open, I think something is...blocking it.” John is dumbfounded by what he’s seeing, he knows that he saw digimon in there, and a room, so the void inside confused him, and after the day he’s had it quickly turned to anger.
“Oh for gods sake, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! This place is just made to mess with me!” His partner covers his mouth with her tail, Runa looked around to look at the others. “Shhh, keep it down John, don’t make a scene!” She then scratched her head, “Although I agree with you, that right there is some bull crap. I think we won’t be able to enter any buildings for now.” She reasoned.
John sighs, “Man what now, this guy is heavy but I don’t want to just leave him in the snow.” He then sees that the others are heading towards some wagon, and then smiled as he walks towards it, “Finally, a chance to rest, I think just one weight on my back is enough for me.” Runa sinks back into the backpack, “Wimp.” she replied, making John stop for a moment, “Man you must be tired, you’re usually more creative then that.” he said, getting a shrug from her.
John gets up to the cart, waving at the driver, “Hey uh can we get a ride? I’ve been dragging this guy around since I got here and I just need a break.” he asked, starting to struggle with keeping himself standing.

The ShimaUnimon looked blankly at his approaching inquirers, turning in place to get a better look at them. The cart practically spun in a circle as he did so, lifting off of the ground without a shred of effort. It then settled right back onto the ground as ShimaUnimon stopped, looking like it had never left the ground. If the last ShimaUnimon was any indication, this one wouldn't have much of worth to say. And, sure enough, as it opened its mouth nothing but static came rolling out. However, it wasn't all inaudible. Faintly, buried beneath the wall of sound, a single sentence could be made out. "Sorry, must've been something I ate."
With this acknowledgment, the ShimaUnimon turned back around. Once more, the cart glided seamlessly through the air, this time corkscrewing in place before landing back on the ground. Despite making a few rotations, the five bundled figures in the back of the cart stayed glued to their seats. In fact, their blankets didn't even ripple from the exertion. They just remained there, staring off into space.
As Alan asked where the ShimaUnimon was heading, it turned over to the spire in the distance and nodded once. As it did so, a new sight finally pierced through the permanent overcast. It seemed to be two lasers intertwined with one another, streaking through the sky like a shooting star. It grazed past the spire, not close enough to actually make contact but just close enough to make a collision seem inevitable. After it passed the spire it swirled in the sky, forming a nexus of light before rewinding back the way it came. ShimaUnimon seemed completely unenthused by the sight, turning back Alan as if to see whether his answer was satisfactory.
He would make no effort to stop the party from climbing onto the cart, even if it was rather small. Neither would the passengers, who continued to stay stock still. They were bundled so tightly in the blankets that they looked more like burlap sacks than people. Only their shining white eyes poked through the darkness. The blankets shook more with each newcomer to check in on the cart, until they started to practically vibrate nonstop by the time Mojyamon approached. Soon, they vibrated with such force that the "hood" of each figure came flying off, revealing the identities of the five passengers:
They were Alan, Kenny, Skadi, John, and Runa, staring forward with placid smiles on their faces.

John's sudden shouts of anger as he fought to try and open the blinds had made Skadi flinch a little, more in surprise rather than in fear. While Runa was quick to shut him up, Skadi said nothing, but she could only stare at the other tamer like if he grew a second head. Regardless, she stayed silent, at least for now.
Pushing one button too many was just not in her nature.
To be honest, considering the last ShimaUnimon barely said anything outside of static before spontaneously vanishing into the either without warning, neither Kenny nor Skadi were expecting him to really say much. But then again, neither were expecting the cart to suddenly lift itself up into the air and swing itself around effortlessly. Instinctively, both of them would step back a step or two. Neither of them were taking any risks, especially when it involved them possibly getting smacked across the face by a heavy wooden cart.
The static, likewise, quickly made the two cover their ears. But somehow, were they actually able to hear any actual words in there? After taking a moment to compose himself and Skadi as the static died down, he just glanced at ShimaUnimon, scratching his chin lightly, "Well, that explains quite a bit, I think."
As the cart turned once more in the air, neither of them could easily take their eyes off the cloaked figures. Or rather, the way they didn't react to anything at all. Even by 'dream world where physics and logic exist whenever they feel like it' standards, it was just weird. Why didn't they react? How could they just shrug off something as irregular as a wagon with ungodly smart rotation abilities?
Speaking of, Alan's question to the ShimaUnimon for confirmation was a smart move, yes, but as they turned to look at his answer, what looked to be 2 brilliant streams of light blazed through the sky, flying by the spire as Kenny and Skadi watched in quiet surprise - at least until the lights got absorbed inside... something, before being sent back the way they came.
Briefly, Kenny rubbed his eyes, before looking back up at the sight of the light show, "...is- Is someone trying to directly break everybody here out of the dream world by force?"
"Looks like it," Skadi noted, "Belphmon isn't dumb, I'll give him that. At least he had the right mind to set up some sort of security system to prevent outside assault. Maybe that could explain the 'Beasts' John and Tapirmon were on about earlier; to prevent possible intruders from possibly wrecking havoc in this gilded cage?"
"Yeah, I guess you're right, Skadi." Kenny just shrugged, making his way onto, and squeezing into, the cart, before helping Skadi on herself, "If I was a really OP supervillain, I'd probably take the time, and the expenses, to cover up every single square inch of my own ass at whatever chance I got in case a whole group of intruders decided to up and throw a monkey wrench in my plans."
If anyone needed any help to climb on, Kenny and Skadi would be leaning over, willing to pull up whoever grabbed their hand. But internally, it was quite hard to ignore the vibrations they could feel developing, especially when the rest of the group had managed to climb on. And just as they settled themselves back into their seats...
...Oh God what in the everloving name of Jesus Tapdancing Christ on a motorcycle was going on right now?
Both of them could practically feel their jaw drop as they took a good look at their own doppelgangers laying just in front of them, yet paying no heed to them. Without saying a word, Skadi quietly waved a hand in front of her doppelganger's face, hoping and praying to squeeze even the tiniest fraction of a reaction out of her.
Kenny, on the other hand, still fighting to recover from the shock, turned directly towards his own clone and straightened himself out, "Hey, uh... Kenny, why are you and Skadi going to the spire today? I mean, you's two sound really interested in it, if I do say so myself."
...talk about talking to yourself.

"No, no, it's no problem at all," Alan reassured the ShimaUnimon, hoping being able to understand a single word of their drivel wasn't a sign of something bad. To look at things from another perspective, every moment they spent in this dream was another sign of something bad. All the more reason to suck it up and push on. The intrepid pair watched the sky light up, indicating the distantesque spire.
"Well, I'll be!" observed Levi, "That's the first pleasant-to-look-at anomaly we've seen all night!"
"'Cept maybe for that fortune teller..." quipped Alan, earning him a playful punch in the leg. "In any case, this probably means we're being summoned. Unless that's really the 'cavalry,' so-to-speak, we've gotta prepare to see the unexpected."
In no time at all, the forms of the figures underneath the blankets would become clear to them. The revelation would only get a mild jump, as if the human had just noticed a house centipede in the corner of his living room. One thing was clear: this was meant as a threat. An intimidation tactic. What could he do but not be intimidated? "Ah, the craftmanship is exquisite," he remarked, peppering the copy with little kicks and nudges, debating whether or not to throw it into the snow. The ShimaUnimon probably wouldn't have appreciated the action, so he left it be. "The wax figures can sit. I can hold onto the handrails."
"Hey, Alan... am I the only one who doesn't see himself here?"

The cart’s antics was certainly odd, and it along with the static definitely weirded John and Runa out, but John was worn out at this point, and Runa was busy watching out for any threats. John climbed onto the wagon, laid down the guy he was carrying, and sat down next to him, rubbing his back and shoulder. “Oh man that’s better.”
He starts to get comfortable and begins to dose off. “Hey Runa, wake me up when we have to get off, I’m just gonna rest for 5 minuets.” He said closing his eyes.
Runa nods and looks around for a bit, and quickly sees the 5 hooded figures take off their hoods to reveal 5 of them. “… John, John wake up!” she says while papping him in the face with her paws. “Ugh, Runa it hasn’t been a minuet, it couldn’t have been that short of a ride.” He mumbles, trying to swat her away. “No seriously, you need to open your eyes, now!” she insists, quickening her speed.
John reluctantly opens his eyes. “Okay fine, what do you… Oh.” The sight of seeing himself smiling in the cart, even more so Runa, woke him up a little bit from the creepiness factor. Seeing that almost all of the group had one as well and where reacting to this, helped him know that he wasn’t going insane. “Well, I feel like I might have made a mistake somewhere to get in this situation, but I don’t know what.”
While Runa was staring at the doubles, John takes a look up to the sky, and seeing the black spire, he remembers that it was brought up earlier but he was too angry to register the words. “So, before we go any further, what’s that spire up there, and what does it do exactly?” he asked.

Surprisingly, Kenny's doppelganger looked right back at him. "So this must be the nightmare realm..." he muttered as he looked around him, before eyeing the weird mountain, "Gotta admit, I expected it to be a little bit more... y'know, scary?" His voice was a perfect copy of Kenny's in every way, but his demeanor was rigid and puppetlike. The way his head snapped towards the mountain made it look like his neck was about to twist off, and his arm gestured quickly enough to slap anyone unlucky enough to be near him upside the head.
Alan, too, snapped into action as he was acknowledged by his double. At first, he didn't say anything, but he moved with similar, rigid motions to the fake Kenny. "Sleep down," he said, before letting out a horrid burst of static from his mouth. As he did so he rigidly leaned in front of him and picked up whatever was directly in front of him. If that meant he was picking up open air, then he would be picking up a vaguely Rookie-sized pocket of open air. "We're in!"
Nothing acknowledged the fake Alan. In fact, the nothing acknowledging the fake Alan was so strong that the cart began to skip back and forth in place. With each second it began skipping faster and faster, until soon the world around the cart had turned into a blur. For the briefest second it slingshot forward through space and time, hovering right in front of the tower. It was so close that the cart's occupants could touch it . . . and yet, as soon as the possibility would even register, it had slingshot right back towards its original spot.
The cart rolled forward as if nothing had happened, with a fake Levi now snugly held within the fake Alan's arms.
At least now, everyone would have gotten a closer look at the area of interest. It was a towering pillar of black ice, twisting into the sky like a curved horn. It seemed to stretch into infinity, but near the very tip of the group's visual limits was what seemed to be a balcony. If they were able to eye the balcony before it snapped back, they would notice what seemed to be a sheep-based centaur standing vigil atop it. A massive, crystalline bow hovered between his hands, an arrow that may have been familiar to John hovering in its grip.
Not that John's doppelganger would be much help in further elaborating on it. It jerked to life as John spoke, Runa's doppelganger trotting over to the center of the cart and jerkily shaking her paws at it.
Well, stuck in the middle of a snowy forest, this feels familiar." He said, Runa looks at someone on the ground, shaking them with her stubby little paws. "Hey, wake up, this isn't a great place to nap.
Such a strange predicament. So much progress had been gained, and promptly lost, in mere seconds.

There was still something that felt... off about the fakes in the cart, at least to Kenny and Skadi. How Alan could stay quite chill around this sudden, out-of-nowhere revelation was beyond him. Maybe he and Levi were used to this sort of crazy, borderline nonsensical bullshit that he must have encountered on a nigh-daily basis in his own adventures in the Digital World, who knew?
That unsettling feeling only amplified as the fake Kenny 'addressed' him directly, in his own perfect replica of his voice. And something just didn't feel right to him. Not just the movements of the clones, but what he said. Literally his first words and remarks from when he and the group entered the dream and spotted the mountain for the first time. Before he could say anything, he found himself slapped up against his chin by the clone, knocking him back by quite a bit, enough for the real Skadi to shuffle back in surprise.
To him, that felt like it could take someone's head clean off.
"Ok, ow!" The real Kenny forced himself to pull himself up and massage his sore chin. Talk about a not-so-warm-welcome. Oddly enough, Skadi's doppleganger stayed silent. But after what the real one just saw, that was of no concern to her right now.
She just turned her head to the real Kenny, her face contort with concern, "Are you OK?"
"Kinda..." he mumbled, still rubbing his chin, before glancing at the clone once more, "Just... what the heck is going on here with these clones of ourselves? As if I didn't expect things to get any more crazier than they are already..." His head was still racing to try and comprehend what was going on; what were those mysterious clones, anyways?
Levi did bring up a good point; where was his own fake version of himself, anyways? Kenny and Skadi turned their attention to the fake Alan, just as puppetlike like the fake Kenny, attempting to replicate his real self's first actions in the dream world. Flinching once more and covering up their ears from the static when it reared it's ugly head, they would look up to see the fake Alan carrying... empty air?
Right on cue, as the cart started to rattle, the two would grip onto the edge as tight as possible. "Hold on, everybody, looks like it's gonna be quite the bumpy ride." Kenny informed the rest of the group as the skipping intensified, and the more it intensified, the tighter their grip would become. They couldn't even register enough time to let out a scream as they came face to face with an all too familiar entity...
As quickly as it began, however, things had returned back to normal, and their grip loosened up, as the two took a good look at the fake Levi. And just like that, things slowly started to click for Kenny. Maybe there was a pattern concerning the static. And maybe Pajiramon was the beast in question.
Watching as the fake Runa nudged the body on the floor, Kenny first turned to John, "John, was that Digimon we just saw up there the so-called 'Beast' with the fancy crystal arrows you were talking about earlier that attacked you?" At least it could give him a few answers on how John and Runa somehow managed to end up here without so much as a warning.
As for Alan, well, "Alan, I think this static might have be caused by certain aspects of the dream world being... missing." He glanced at the fake Levi, then to the spire, "At least now, we might be finally getting our answers very soon... something tells me that Tapirmon probably managed to snatch some information from us, just enough to craft the dopplegangers."
They couldn't get to the spire quick enough, that's for sure.

End
Sleep. Dreams. Nightmares.
In all, these are the things on the end and fringe of human and even Digimon perception. Partners appear and disappear, events happen and then are forgotten, all without even questioning where the journey was.
As Belphemon rouses, the dream breaks, and those caught under the spell start to rouse up. Perhaps the intrusion was enough to break the focus... but its enough for the overlookers to start moving those caught in the spell out of the area.
If the source can't be steadily accessed, then maybe it can be contained...
