The Icon of Sloth (Demon Lords 2G)

Truth be told, Carlos expected something like this to happen at some point, it was simply impossible to imagine them getting to Sloth would be this easy. And as soon as the roaring started well, it was obvious if digimon as powerful as them would find it difficult to withstand the mighty winds of the Demon Lord, a mere human would be easily finged about like a bag caught in a storm.
And Carlos would have probably fallen and rolled a good distance, had he not been caught by one of Gio's palms as soon as his feet started to leave the ground, cushioning his fall and grabbing onto the human as tightly as he could without actually hurting him. Yet even the large frames of the twins had a hard time not being thrown around by Sloth's snoring, the twins having to quite literally dig their claws into the walls of the cavern just to keep themselves from falling.
The chrysalimons' wind assisted erratic movements were just adding salt in the wound at that point, making a bad situation even worse.
And...then the humming started. It took the trio a good couple of seconds to register it over the chaos around them, but as soon as they did they could do little but look at their two companions in utter disbelief.
"...really?!" Dio and Carlos in particular seemed more shocked than anything, not so much by the fact Holly and Mae were humming...but rather what they were humming. Hardly an appropiate choice for such a dire moment but with so few options available, there wasn't much else for them to do but to grab on tightly and hope for the best. Or at least for Belphemon's snoring to slow down a bit.
Not that they would stay put and wait around of course.
"Gio! Do the thing!" Was all the man could say, but it would be enough for the Hadesmon to understand, as it was clear by his nodding in response. As his claws dug into the ground to keep his balance his eyes would glow a bright blue, and soon the other four would probably notice the small, somewhat spherical translucent bubble forming around the mega level. Said bubble grew in size more and more, soon big enough to surround the entire group.
Would his shield be enough to mitigate the pushback from the snores? Perhaps not, but it would certainly keep them safe long enough for the humming to take effect and hopefully neutralize the threat of the chrysalimons.
If such a bizarre tactic would even work to begin with, of course.
Gio uses plasma bubble to shield the group from attacks and...hopes for the best, really.
Plasma bubble: Generates a large (50 feet) barrier of solid plasma around him and any allies within his range. Said barrier can stop up to three Mega level attacks or a single Super Mega attack. Lasts up to two turns, and has a 4 turn cooldown.
Cooldowns: plasma bubble (0/4)

The Chrysalimon may have been spurred into action, but not entirely on their own power. Mae and Holly had every intent of keeping things that way. As the Chrysalimon started to open their eyes they returned fire with a gentle hum, soft voices underlining what amounted to a weeaboo's lullaby. The Chrysalimon's eyelids fluttered, and one by one they began closing their eyes. As the lullaby team focused on keeping the situation from escalating, Carlos and Gio handled keeping the Chrysalimon away physically. They bounced harmlessly off of Gio's plasma bubble, far too weak to even come close to penetrating it. Any who made impact were jostled awake, heads snapping back and forth in shock, but the lullaby eased them right back to sleep afterwards. It was a perfect plan, and soon the Chrysalimon were little more than specks of purple on the horizon.
The rest of the cavern remained plunged into darkness, but after a few more minutes of walking a bright orange glow pierced through the shadow. The cavern felt hotter just from looking at it, and as the group approached closer sparks could be seen bubbling off of it. What once looked like an indistinct glow was now clearly a river of lava, slicing the room cleanly in half. It illuminated platforms of hard, red rock, which dotted it like spots on the surface of the sun. The two largest platforms were the exit to the hall that Holly, Mae, and Carlos had just exited and an identical looking surface on the other side of the river.
At this point, there was a lot more room to maneuver than the cramped cavern had offered before. The lava river stretched to the horizon on both its left and right sides, no end visible from either branch. The left half of the lava river seemed to be angled upwards, while the right half descended downwards. The platform on the other side seemed equally expansive, breaking away into a few cavernous hallways that each faded back into the darkness. It seemed that this room was a central chamber of sorts, although with the journey's length so far it was doubtful that this would be heart of the mountain.
With all of these branching paths, it would seem like an ideal time to stop, wait, and plan. However, the second the lava-filled chamber was entered, the walls of the room began to shake and rumble. Air rushed past Holly, Mae, and Carlos in another yawn, but this time Belphemon didn't blow back out. Instead, the cavern fell silent. Only minutes later would a mellow voice cut through the quiet.
"Huh," the voice commented, stifling another yawn. "When'd you get here?"

Should Mae have expected the weaboo's lullaby to not work? Possibly, but against all of her doubts it somehow worked. This lulled the Chrysalimon back to sleep, and also felt a bit like Mae was putting some family to bed for a bit. After a moment of recollecting herself, Mae glanced to Carlos and Holly. "...What? It was the first tune I thought of. It's a good song." She stated, quietly.
...She really didn't understand the raunchiness of the show in question that tune was from. She just thought it sounded nice. Regardless, they had to continue onwards, and as the glow of lava made itself apparent (which didn't surprise Mae, such was to be expected within a mountain), so did the fact that they were...
Not alone.
Yet, who was there with them? Who was awake?
Mae froze in place as the voice spoke. She wanted to poke that hornet's nest, but at the same time...She looked to her companions in abject alarm.

Wait hang on. That actually worked? The clarimon major slowly blinked as she was greeted with their short term success. Honestly she hadn't been expecting that and with them being able to move forward the super mega was somewhat relieved. Moving through this place the digimon stretched a bit and let her wings rotate a few times as she thought out what they could do. Huffing to herself she'd pull out her infinity storage, allowing her jade orbs to join them now that they likely would be finding themselves in a better location for such objects. The soft chimes of her friends making the clarimon hold them out and gesture around for a offensive based buff. The jittery motion that they made afterwards was something that Holly recognized as something similar to her baihumon's. She'd turn her head and flick a strand of wayward hair out of her face. At the new location and the voice that stemmed out of there holly only had one motion she could make here. She'd point at where the voice came from and gave a nod. This was something they needed to do and well, if they had the chance they could use this to set up a major attack for a foe that wasn't quite ready. The clarimon looked about to those that were here, counting in her head and wondering which one she should do this on... would setting up that sort of thing be a good idea? No. She'd purse her lips and float up a little bit, they didn't have a target so they'd be forced to fire blind if they attacked now. So finding where was a priority. Holly's voice was curt and quiet... "Just now actually. You guys. Find them and Lets do what we came here to do."She'd need some room to fight and if they could get the belphemon out in the open of this place well.. They'd quickly fall to a barrage of a concentrated attack right? She wanted to keep the three in range of her; as dio, gio, and mae would all get a slight defense bonus if they did... Log: -Holly draws out Jade orbs-Holly sets jade orbs to Offensive formation increasing her attack while active by 10% Passives: |RAM UPGRADE GIGA| Jade orbs: A set of seven somewhat small orbs that change in size based on the host digimon's own size. Inside of the orbs lays a collective AI that is capable of learning and reasoning much like it's owner does. It is named after it's own coloration and it's voice is decidedly feminine. Outside of battle it simply gathers and catalogs information for it's owner's benefit while inside of battle it's devious ability is brought to light.

Surprisingly it didn't take long for the group to get through the Chrysalimon infested tunnel, none worse for wear thanks to the girls' improptu "lullaby". Something Dio didn't seem able to get over. Though Carlos simply shruged at the Rasielmon.
"Eh, can't argue with the results." He'd then reach out to pat Gio's side, much to the Hadesmon delight. "You did good too, ya dork."
As they got closer into the center of the mountain it became blatantly clear where the heat was coming from, the man wiping the sweat from his brow as he pondered how even a Demon Lord would find a lava filled cave to be a suitable place to take a nap.
The look on the trio's faces was comparable to that of a deer blinded by headlights, or perhaps that of a tiny rodent cornered by a cat as soon as they heard that voice adressing them. That Mae seemed to react in a similar fashion did little to dispel their fears and many doubts circling their mind. Was Belphemon talking to them? If so, was it awake or was it talking on it's sleep? Did that made any difference for the lord of sloth? At the very least Holly seemed to keep her withs about her, always focused on the mission and if she was afraid she was very good at hiding it.
She sure took after her older sister.
At any rate, the twins only nodded in silent agreement to Holly's words, afterwhich Dio would slowly take to the air with a movement of his wings, trying to move as quietly as his frame allowed him to as he tried to locate the source of the voice from above (while still trying to keep somewhat close to the group), while Gio kept close to the Clarimon, Carlos always standing just behind the Hadesmon.
"Not that you made it easy for us. I assume we're talking with Sloth themselves, correct?" Dio pondered outloud, half to himself, half replying to the voice deep into the cave. Was it wise to try and talk back to a Demon Lord they were trying to ambush? Not quite, and he was aware of that...yet this was probably the only time he'd get to exchange any meaningful words with the current incarnation of Sloth.
The Dark Lord's curiosity just had to be sated somehow, and he had too many questions to ask.

Unfortunately for those trying to track Belphemon by voice, their attempts at exploring the room would come up fruitless. Unlike the yawns, snores, and roars that Belphemon had made before, his voice rang through their heads as clear as a bell. It was as if instead of speaking to them, Belphemon was using his thoughts to speak through them. Probably to be expected; was Belphemon truly so slothful that even speaking was beneath him? "Guess that's still what they call me, huh," Belphemon answered. Perhaps it was his natural laziness, but he sounded really blase about the title he possessed. "Surprised nobody else took it on me yet. But, guess that's kinda the point, huh?" He chuckled dryly at his own observation.
From how Holly and Dio made it sound, their trip here wasn't a very easy one. "Huh. You really just got here?" he asked. "Well, that's a relief. Gives me a bit more time to get ready." Even in telepathic communication, Belphemon could still barely stifle the yawn that cracked through his words. "Though could you maybe not do that whole 'finding me' thing? Kinda don't want to stop my nap just to clean your data off of the walls. Pretty sure it'd suck for both of us, you know? So how about you do you, I do me, and we call it even?" With that, Belphemon's voice faded way. Everyone was left to their own devices once more, still with no direction to work with.
As Belphemon's voice faded, the stone of the cavern started to shudder. Slowly but surely the heat within the cavern began to ebb away. It wouldn't be very noticeable at first, especially due to the rivers of lava snaking through the room, but the contrast between heat and cold would leave a strange, disquieting feeling in the stomachs of all those present. Sometimes the cold would spike up, only to be swallowed up by another rush of heat from the lava. Worse still, the longer the group remained in their current position, the more frequent and colder these temperature drops would become. The only saving grace was that leaving the room, whether to go back or to go forward, would rapidly warm those who wandered back up.
Beyond that, there was little more than quiet, cold, and a labyrinthine network of tunnels. If there were any hints as to Belphemon's location, he seemed very uninterested in providing them.

...Of course. It barely just hit her, but it should've been quite obvious that Sloth was so lazy that he wouldn't even bother to verbally communicate. So, trying to triangulate his location via a voice would be pretty damn useless right now. As the temperature began to drop dramatically, Mae figured that there was a small window of time to act.
The Rasielmon put a hand up to her head, and closed her eyes. For once in her life, she was going to actually attempt looking into the future of her own volition. There were a number of paths ahead of them, each with a chance of being the proper one to 'find' Sloth. Which one had the probability of being the 'correct' path.
"Might wish to start figuring out which path to take." She uttered, quietly, while she attempted this.

Holly let out a low frustrated hum as they couldn't use the Belphemon's voice to track where they were. As it was in their mind by the feel of it; kind of an odd sort really. The clarimon frowned lightly as the sloth made multiple observations. And with how he responded to their arrival also didn't make this any easier. He wasn't going to tell them where he was obviously and didn't want them to find him. The clarimon didn't feel like she needed to answer that or even give the idea any more thought than pushing it to one side. The clarimon looked about, the heat of this place draining slowly. "Yeah. No. Not going to waste time here."The clarimon's body was engulfed in the light of digivolution and instead... was a meicrackmon that was shocking similar to that of her mother's design minus the red cloak. The meicrackmon growled a little bit and snapped her fingers a few times, her clones popping out of thin air with their arms folded or in various disgruntled poses. "Caverns are mine. You four figure out which end to take or whatnot. If you find him just withdraw, we meet back here in five yeah?"Holly would give her clones quick orders to which cavern they would go to before taking the last one for herself. What was going to be in hers she wondered... Move used: Quasi|Scout Variation[RAM UPGRADE]: Holly can create up to four clones of herself that can mimic her movements almost perfectly. They can move around and physically interact with things. They are capable of advanced thought, speech and information gathering. Outside of combat they last until dismissed while in combat they only last for two. When struck these scouts vanish. They have no combative talents past scouting and are unable to make attacks on their own. Scout variants, when vanished share information that they learned with the host making them a valuable extension of ones self. Three post cool down. Scout Variants cannot be used during other Quasi Variants active periods or cool down periods.

As soon as the voice appeared it would also fall silent, leaving the group pretty much in the dark. Almost amusingly enough Dio seemed more annoyed than anything else after the one sided conversation had ended, mostly at Belphemon's complete lack of care towards the intruders of his domain. Surely the lord of Sloth would actually put more of an effort in stopping them, or at least making a proper entrance, or anything really! Was this lazy bum of a demon what they were really up against? It was hard for him not to feel somewhat dissapointed already, honestly.
"Hmph, he has the gall of just ignoring us? For a Demon Lord he takes the whole Sloth thing a bit too much to heart." He snorted, outrage and annoyance palpable in his tone. Carlos could only roll his eyes. "Dio, is this really the best time for that? Let's just focus on finding him before he decides to stop being lazy."
Sadly it seemed the most time efficient way of searching was the tried and true method of splitting up. Not the best approach in a dark cold cavern, but they were running out of time and options. As Mae started trying to find out which path to take (if such a thing was possible even with her powers) while Holly took a slightly more direct approach with her clones, that left with only two paths for the twins and human to take. Both of which involved traversing close to a lava river, how quaint.
"We'll take the lava path that goes down. I can fly and so can Dio, though doesn't mind fire either, so we should be fine." The Hadesmon said, pointing in the direction of river of hot lava (or was it magma since it was technically underground?), as he carefully picked up the human and placed him gently behind his metallic head. "Just to be sure: humans and lava don't mix, right?" He'd ask, sounding doubtful for a moment.
"Just don't let me fall, aight dummy?" Was all Carlos replied, as the two big megas started making their way above the river, both flying low enough to avoid the ceiling, yet high enough for the white haired man not to become a piece of human jerky. "You two be careful, ok? Nobody start a fight without the whole team."

With Holly taking the caverns, Carlos and Dio taking the downward angled cavern, and Mei providing the perspective of a seer, the team had their spelunking plan all figured out. As Mei's future vision unfurled at the speed of thought, she would be the first to figure out what lied ahead.
The leftmost cavern felt like seared eyes and choking smoke. The cavern to its right felt warm, wet, and soothing. The rightmost cavern felt like unforgiving frost upon the skin. The cavern to its right felt sharp and suffocating. The middlemost cavern felt like nothing at all. The lava flows angling upward felt like high, floaty currents, and the lava flows angling downwards felt like a raging maelstrom.
Worryingly enough for Mae, each and every one of these ended in an encounter with Belphemon at the end. Were all of these tunnels connected to another central chamber? Or did Belphemon somehow exist in multiple spaces at once? Perhaps there was even some other form of demonic trickery afoot. Nevertheless, this was what Mae's future vision would show her.
Holly's clones would quickly put Mae's hypotheses to the test. Smoke rolled out from the leftmost cavern as the first clone set foot inside of it, quickly making it difficult for the cloned cat to see. Continued exposure to the smoke would leave her eyes smoking and tearing up, and if she didn't hold her breath it would be very difficult to avoid coughing. Through the smoke, Holly would see what seemed like three silhouettes of levers. Behind them, a vent seemed to block any continued access.
The cavern next to that didn't extend very far. It ended in a small hot spring, mineral-rich waters wafting an appetizing smell into the air. The hot spring simmered slightly as Holly's clone approached, and any contact with it would feel almost supernaturally soothing. In fact, any pains or aches Holly's clone would have would fade away as they were submerged into the water! However, while this was nice, the room seemed like a dead end to the naked eye.
The rightmost chamber was a polar opposite of the first one. The second Holly set foot on the icy floors, she would find herself slipping from a thick layer of permafrost along the stone tunnel. Any attempt at alleviating this slipperiness by grabbing the walls would fail: they were just as slippery as the floors, to the point where they were useless as handholds. If Holly wanted to traverse this area, she would have to rely on her own natural grace. Nevertheless, this section of hallway didn't seem too long. It would only be a minute or so of walking before the hallway would turn down a bend.
The chamber to its left was warmer, but Holly's clone would find that it was overwhelmed by plant life. Thorny, blackened, vines seeped through cracks in the cavern walls, covering the walls, floors, and even ceiling. Any areas of the cavern floor not covered in vines were covered in thick carpets of moss, making a soft area for Holly's clone to traverse. Occasionally a step in the wrong spot would cause spores to shoot into the air, but fortunately they seemed harmless. A door was visible at the end of the cavern, but vines adhered it tightly to the wall. Their prominent thorns seemed to glisten.
The final cavern was exactly as Mei would predict it; a long stone hallway that seemed to stretch into the horizon. It had no dangers, no defining features, and no visible twists or turns. It was simply a straight walk that never seemed to progress any further. Would Holly's clone continue down it, or would she deem it not worth the effort?
As Holly checked out the caverns, Carlos and his group would check the downward lava flow. It wasn't long before they would see what Mei had seen with her future sight; after only a few minutes of walking, the lava flow opened into a far wider chamber. The lava swirled around this chamber, drilling down into it like a whirlpool of molten rock. Occasionally, Flarizamon and Meramon through past the whirlpool, looking far too relaxed as they swirled into the abyss. When they reached the center, they didn't resurface. Large chunks of blackened rock darkened the whirlpool, remaining firm and steady even in the swirling currents. Perhaps if one was daring, those could be used as footholds. On the other hand, if one wanted to swim through the whirlpool, being dashed against those rocks was a realistic possibility.
Good thing Carlos wasn't stuck doing either, right?

Mae was uncertain of what to make of the first time she had willingly peered into the future. Belphemon couldn't exist in multiple areas at the same time, can he? That'd require effort, right? Wasn't he the literal embodiment of laziness? Yet at the same time it could save effort walking there.
"...No matter where we go we just end up confronting Sloth at the end." Mae murmured. Loud enough for everyone else to hear her. The Rasielmon floated up and above the lava with the aim of taking the path that nobody else had opted to take. The stream that went upwards.
She wasn't sure what she would find aside from what she might have already seen, but it was worth seeing if every one of these roads did lead to the proverbial Rome that...Sloth clearly was not, or if it was just trickery, as these folk were known for.

Holly's collective ears flicked and each one of her clones had a different expression. Worry, surprise, confidence, smugness. Holly herself had one that seemed oddly thoughtful, she'd flick her ears too and fro, but the clones and their own shared a look with one another before giving small nods. They all knew what to do int his case, in the event of multiple sloth presences there would be only one real way to deal with such a problem. They'd have to figure out which was real and which was just a fantasy.
While the clones couldn't attack they could interact with things, and the sensation of touch itself was something that the clones could convey properly. They'd all go their separate ways and holly herself would give a small thumbs up as she walked into her cavern.
"If he is in all of them it's a matter of figuring out which one is the right one and fast!"
Holly herself was in the smokey location, her eyes watering and she'd grumble as she pulled out a length of cloth. Coughing and sputtering she'd take a moment to dribble some water from a water-bottle over the cloth, wring it out and then wrap it around her face. For her eyes she'd splash the water in it, grimacing as it burned a bit. The three levels and the vents behind them made her frown. There was a problem here, she didn't know which one to pull. Which vent it opened and what they did. But she had to guess. She had to pull one of them and as she approached them she doled out the possibilities. Even going so far as to take out her companion from the infini storage.
"I presume this puzzle is fairly difficult for you to pull me out before combat Holly."
"Run possibilities of what each lever does and round down to the lowest integer Jade."
"I don't have enough concrete data to give you a proper diagnosis of what the levers could do."
"Hmm. Give me your best shot."
"Very well. The vents here are likely either exhausts or intakes. They're tied to the levers or the levers are traps. The likability of this is roughly 25% in terms of traps, 35% in terms of activating additional exhaust, 10% in terms of doing nothing and 25% chance that while two will do nothing the third will yield the intake."
"The last 5%?"
"It's possible that the levers affect the other locations in ways we don't know. It's difficult to ascertain what will go on here, I wish there was some sort of symbol or some way to tell them apart..."
Holly nodded to jade and then set about investigating the levers and vents in more vivid detail. Trying to see which one of them had more use, what sort of clues she could get from the strange things, all the while jade hummed as it processed the location...
Which one was the closest to the entrance? What required the least amount of attention and painstaking detail? She'd move her hands and run them over the levers, finding her resolve hardening she'd approach the levers, investigating them to try to understand what she was dealing with and what the vents might do. Would it be a good idea to pull any of these? She didn't know but she did know if she didn't find any relevance between them and anything in the room she'd just pull the middle one...
"I believe that it would be foolish to pull the middle one Holly."
"You know that's the one I'm most likely to pull right?"
"I knew that would be the case when given this puzzle. But it's also the most likely to do something..."
"Should I pull it?"
"It's a hard fifty fifty in post of if this is a bad idea or not..."
Holly grimaced a bit, and if she didn't have any real clues to go off of would pull the middle lever much to the chagrin of her friend jade...
The small hot spring that the clone came into grimaced a bit and she'd shake her head. This place ws a dead end? Nothing but water that soothed her aches and pains. She felt her heartache of losing her mother wash away and there was an eased expression from her. The soothing nature of this spring was nice... but she couldn't falter. Instead she'd search around the water, inspecting every nook and cranny. She didn't believe that this place was just this simple!
The rightmost holly would frown as she slipped along the floor. Her natural cat like grace was managing to circumnavigate the slipperiness but there was difficulty moving exactly how she wanted to. She used her tendrils and tail to even out her steps and she'd occasionally have to hop to keep herself sliding along. Once she got to the bend she'd grip at the side and peak around, raising a brow to make sure the coast was clear before continuing along...
The overwhelming plant life that the left chamber was something met with a thorough frown from the clone. Vines vines viens and more vines! She'd keep to the moss area and seeing the spores shoot up the clone wouldn't take any chances, backing away or moving out of where they were. She didn't know what they did or what they could do and wasn't going to take any chances. Noting the door the meicrackmon considered what she could do, if she was damaged to a certain degree she'd vanish. So the clone would have to painstakingly remove strip after strip of vines off of the door, avoiding too many of the thorns but having her hands getting sliced by them was inevitable. She'd get to work and if able would eventually open the door...
THe last clone that was presented with the never ending hall considered briefly what she was given. Her perception said that this hallway went on forever, but she didn't trust her perception. She'd mull it over and snap her fingers. The meicrackmon closed her eyes and walked forward, trusting her instincts and trusting her body to do the work for her...
Apart we are strong. But together we act as one. We are holly and she trusts in our judgement.

The trio's advance through the hot tunnel was a slow, uneventful one, barely a sound to keep them company other than the the bubbling of the lava below them. They soon however reached what at least at a first glance seemed to be a dead end. The lava whirpool in the center of the large chamber seemed to be the only thing of note so far, barring the fire digimon that seemed to be blissfully unaware that they were floating in it as they made their way into the center of the whirpool.
Carlos whiped the sweat of his forehead, squinting as he tried to locate the entrance to another tunnel on the other side of the chamber, though he was interrupted by the Hadesmon's voice. "Maybe we should keep going down?" He said, eyeing the whirpool with a slight aversion. Carlos shook his head.
"Pretty sure I'd burn like a match if I got any closer to the lava, and I don't think that shield of yours will hold for long enough. I say we just...try to cross. Carefully." The only surface available for that however were a few rocks that seemed sturdy and stable enough to be walked on, even by the two large twins.
It was that or to retreat back to Mae and Holly. Well, Dio clearly didn't seem to want that, as he let an annoyed huff before slowly descending and carefully submerging the lower part of his body into the lava river, not wanting to risk having to share a single rock with another large Mega in the middle of a lava river. While it was rather hot even for him, the demon's natural resistance to fire and such temperatures made it....well, non lethal.
"Very well then, let's make this quick." He'd slowly try to wade his way around the whirpool, being careful to dig his claws deep into the few solid rock surfaces of the river to avoid being dragged along into the center. It wasn't quite a walk in the park, but nothing he couldn't handle either so far. As for Gio he would take a different approach, keeping a solid clutch on the tamer as he carefully tried to balance himself on top of the rocks littering the spiraling lava whirpool, following closely behind his brother as the trio tried to make it to the other end of the chamber, where hopefully progress awaited them...
Relevant Passive keeping Dio from being cooked:
[Passive] Hell raised: This ability allows this digimon to be unburdened by fire damage. Instead of damaging this digimon fire heals it for half of the intended damage, but he also takes double damage from water based attacks.

Mae's stream started as a gentle incline, sure enough, but it rapidly started to change its tune. With each passing second it sloped higher and higher, until soon it was little more than a sheer wall of stone. Lava cascaded down its surface, rolling, bubbling, and spouting off embers. By now Mae would be feeling the warm air start to rise. If she looked up, she would notice that she was standing beneath a shaft leading directly upwards. The lava oozing down the stone illuminated the entire passageway, which was barely wide enough for her to travel through. The top of the shaft, rather than stone, seemed to be completely made of metal. Was this entire section artificial?
Holly's water bottle did the trick for keeping the smoke out of her mouth and eyes. It would be much easier her to linger in the room for the time being, although too much exposure would start to dry the towel out. Thankfully Holly didn't seem to intend on lingering, immediately going for the middlemost lever to see it would do. It sounded promising at first. Holly would hear the sound of servos straining and cables creaking, the rusty machinery behind these vents willing itself into motion. Then with one last shudder, another vent slammed down to block the entrance behind Holly. At least now nobody could ambush her from behind. The purpose of the left and right levers were still unclear; which would open the way forward?
Unfortunately for Holly's first clone, the area around the hot spring contained nothing of intrigue. There were no secret switches hidden underneath flagstones, no small digital insects writhing around in the mud, and no equipment carelessly left behind by previous explorers. However, as she scrambled around the edge of the spring, she would notice that she couldn't quite make out the spring's bottom. How deep below the surface did it go?
As Holly's second clone peeked around the corner, she would notice that she was staring right back at herself. The last hallway might have been slippery, but this one looked completely iced over. Paired with the many twists and turns that the hallway took, the cavern looked less like a natural and more like a hall of mirrors. If Holly passed through the hall, she would see that practically every version of herself looked different. One looked too tall and thin. One looked too squat and stretched out. One had a giant head. One was actually a Mephistomon. And one was practically upside down. Just as the walls got more frozen over, so to did the floors. Even with her tendrils, it would take all of Holly's patience and grace to reach the end of the hallway. There, what else could await her but a large door made of marble? While it looked completely frozen over, it was the closest thing to an exit she had.
The third Holly clone would have no issue shearing the vines off. Or, at least, she wouldn't at first. Each slash through the vines was harder than the last, and with each fallen vine a louder growl would escape through the crack in the door. By the time Holly had sheared enough vines to start prying the door open, she would see a pale white eye glaring at her through the cracks. "Why do you disturb my relief?" it asked, half a question and half a demand. It almost seemed to be warning Holly against continuing.
As for the final Holly? Well, it would feel for all the world like she was still walking.
Compared to all of these myriad puzzles and mysteries, Carlos' path seemed far more simple. There was a big whirlpool of lava, safe land on either side of it, and a few rocks to either dodge or skip over to get from point A to point B. Between Gio's agility and Dio's fire resistance, the two had an easy time with handling the lava itself. Unfortunately, the lava itself was the least of their problems. As Gio and Dio reached the halfway point of the lava flow, they would notice a steel skull rising out from the middle of the maelstrom. It glared at them with eyes as hot as burning coals, then roared hard enough to shake the walls of the cavern. Bit by bit, a Volcdramon rose up from the depths, assessing the pair carefully. It seemed unsure what to do about these three interlopers, but it clearly wasn't too thrilled to see them.

Going up this stream proved to be rather calming at first. A gentle incline meant there was very little opposition in traversing her way up the stream. At the end of it, though, she was quick to notice the shaft going upwards. Hm. She wasn't sure if there was enough space within those confines to fit her, so she opted to rise up, as carefully as she could to traverse through the shaft further.
Claustrophobic as this was, Mae was uncertain what to make of the fact that this whole section seemed artificial. Wasn't this place sealed off? How could someone have had the time to make something like this in here? Something simply did not add up here, and Mae wanted to find the root of it all.
Yet, she could not be impulsive. One thing had to be done at a time, did it not?
