The Lost Lady Of The Trailmon [Ritsuko & Kura]

The train was a world of its own. The ringing, repeated announcement of its destination came from above. The rolling clack of the tracks rumbled below. And throughout the land of the cabin’s interior came the symphony of people trying to stand still when they were packed like sardines; conversation, the tapping of feet, the straightening of ties, the tapping of acrylic nails on a keyboard. Ritsuko had been deaf to the world inside the train for the longest time. When the crowd left the open space was left for her. Yet, on every single ride, she was suffocating the whole way. Whether by whatever project she was chipping away at with her laptop, the annoyance she felt just itching to get out of her makeup, there was always something to rush her while she transferred to the next train. It had become a step she was both too jaded to care about and too concerned with whatever feeds she was scrolling through on her phone to focus on. The odd sound of the elevator she'd stepped into didn't faze her. The dazed, automatic motion she made at the controls- sliding her train pass along the scanner, was something completely outside of her attention. When she had homework to do, a room to make, raids to schedule, an entire life plan to mull over before going to sleep; the unordinary and concerning parts of the journey home were just to be expected. By the end of October, she'd be eighteen, a smooth transition from one year to the next. A rough transition trying to prepare for everything that meant. The thought of forgetting about it all on the next line was looking like a greater and greater idea with each leaning step she took towards the trolley-like train. Ritsuko pushed past a crowd of invisible people in her exhausted walk into her seat, crumpling onto the metallic ledge as if she'd been thrown there. The tie on the back of her hair was coming undone and the bags under her eyes were becoming clearer and clearer. She gave a long, heavy sigh, resting her head on her purse. It was lucky. A row of empty seats for her to sleep in. At least it wasn't somewhere else...But there couldn't have been anyone else here, right? At this time of night, she couldn't notice anyone. The crowd was invisible. She couldn't realize that in this case, the crowd was less invisible and more completely nonexistent. It didn't occur to her that this train wasn't just trolley-like, it was an entirely different type of living creature she never knew existed. And she was definitely too tired to realize that the train wasn't shuffling off into another familiar urban landscape, but into open sky and sun. Racing off to somewhere that really was another world. If Ritsuko wasn't sleeping so deeply, she might've heard the tweeting of flying creatures outside or the whistling wind of the forest. She might've heard that familiar announcing voice say "Welcome to Server Woods". But until she was woken from her slumber, all she'd think about was how nice the morning sun felt on her face.

Kura groaned. He hated trains but as per his routine nearly every single day he'd march down to the Shibuya Train Terminal, take his train to work or school and sit down with his headphones in his ears ignoring everyone.
He noticed the large crowd and pulled his hoodie up and slipped his headphones in his ears though he didn't turn his music on. His Introvert Disguise. Kura gave a small smile and mumbled. "Sorry, I can't hear you. Too busy pretending to listen to music"
He pulled his phone out and kept his head down and his eyes on it. He was literally staring at the black screen. He didn't bother looking up he just wanted to get to the train and be gone. He peeked up slightly when he entered the elevator sliding his train pass, he sighed in relief when he realized there wasn't anyone else around. He must've gotten in before anyone else.
He quickly made his way to the train, pausing for a moment, it looked...weird in some way...but he said nothing, assuming it was exhaustion getting to him, he sat down calmly. Now he just needed to...hold on... He glanced at a girl on the train, she looked completely out.
"A nap sounds like fun honestly" Kura mumbled, leaving the girl alone. He pulled one headphone out and putting on the first track on his phone. He didn't pay attention to the fact that the train was completely empty aside from the two of them. Kura thought that was a little bit strange... Then he heard the sounds coming from outside the train, that started to really worry him.
"Welcome to Server Woods"
His eyes widened as he paused his music. Server Woods...? What was that...? What train did he end up on...? He reached over and nudged the girl next to him. "H-Hey, wake up" he mumbled looking extremely confused.

The next morning already? Ritsuko's lips barely parted in her sleep, her only sounds being incoherent mumbling while the sun of a new world shone on her face. She must've really hit the sack late...even as she dreamt of Java and C++, someone was calling her to wake up. Kiry was sure that she had to already be back at her house, but as her golden eyes opened up once again, she was immediately proven wrong. The nudge made her spring up like a children's pop up, utterly befuddled. The tie in her hair was sent flying from her start, hair falling to the side of her face as she swung her head around in confusion. "Wuh-? Huh~?" This was not the look of a morning train. It was completely empty. And...that announcement...the one that just went on again...Server Woods? The doors were shuddering open too. She pushed herself out of the seat, dusting off her blazer and taking another look around. She had to leave! That was the only thought she could process, at least until she could adknowledge who'd nudged her to life. "Who are you? Are we the only two here? Do you know where in the world we are?" Ritsuko spat out her interrogations rapid fire towards Kura. They can't have ended up somewhere literally in the woods...the train would've had to crash. Her mind went pinging about with all the things that could've happened, contorting her face further and further into confusion. In an attempt to calm herself, she picked up her laptop and plopped right back down where she was laying before, staring out of the windows in front of them. They weren't just in the woods, these weren't normal woods either; trees of wires and cables, maybe even a stray gear sticking out of a trunk. "I finally stayed up too late...I really made myself go crazy..." She mumbled to herself, holding her head in her hands.

Kura raised an eyebrow at Ritsuko. "Um...hi..."
He shook his head with a loud sigh. "My name is Kura Hajime as for being the only two people on the train. Yeah, that's about right from my knowledge. And no. Aside from it being called 'Server Woods' whatever the heck that is"
He shoved his hands into his pockets as the girl sat back down. He could see the absolute confusion etched onto her face. He put his headphones into his bag and his phone in his pocket before he took out his bag of gummy bears. "Look...you're not crazy" he replied, holding them out to her "Want some...?"
He continues talking trying to be calm and collected in the situation at hand. "Listen, if you're crazy then I am too, because we'd be both seeing the same thing"
Kura glanced out to the confusing looking place in front of him. "It looks...strange out there...we should probably go looking around. We should be able to find someone who can explain this whole thing" he looked over to the girl.
This whole thing was massively confusing him. Kura sighed softly, deciding to stay as calm as possible for the sake of this other girl.

Ritsuko took a long moment to stare at those gummy bears; at the sight of the treats, the worried gaze that towered over Kura disappeared completely with a simple shrug. She took them into her clutches, turning back towards the windows as she began to munch on the one chewy comfort she had. "Thanks, kid." She made a wincing smile, knowing she probably shouldn't have said that. Then again...she knew full well just how much she looked like someone's mom dressed like this, so why not start with some playful disrespect? "Seeing as we're both clearly insane, trying to find a guide or something would help." Ritsuko noted. She stashed the remaining gummies in her purse before standing again, moving towards the doors to take a peek outside. The scenery was truly bizarre, the ground below them seemed to be composed of teal microchips, nothing out there in the woods looked to be the right color. A plan of action was beginning to show itself as her mind became clearer and clearer still. "Whelp, I should introduce myself too, Hajime. Name's Kiryuin Ritsuko and if you dropped the rest of that and just called me 'Kiry', I'd love it." The two-hundred centimeter girl made a large bow, which she turned into taking her blazer off and loosening the shirt underneath. The flats had to go too...there was no way in hell that she was going to run around the forest looking like this. The earrings she was wearing? They had to go. It was beginning to become obvious why she shouldn't sleep on them. "As long as you keep coming up with star ideas like those gummy bears, I think we're going to like working together. You probably have a family, and I've got a missed night of clan dailies to get back to, so let's try our best to get back home!" The sweets were like a mental power-up for her, Kiry recovered near instantly despite the circumstances, giving a thumbs up towards Kura after she finished speaking. "Now, does your phone still have power? We need a compass." Which she hoped would still function even though this looked like a completely different planet. She was glad it didn't take her long to get ready to go.

Kura winced a little at being called a 'kid' "Hey! Hey! I'm 17 okay! I'm not exactly a kid" he smiled slightly though, glad to see the gummy bears had given the girl a burst of energy.
"Okay, Kiry, nice to meet you. You can call me K.J then, no need to call me Hajime"
He grumbled at the idea of working together with anyone. He knew it was necessary but he still didn't much like teams. He heard Kiry bring up his phone. "Um...let me check" Kura pulled his phone out, looking at the charge. "'Bout 50%" he looked outside.
That whole place looked so...weird..but it kinda felt like it would be fun to explore and maybe find out more about it. Certainly safer with Kiry than it would be alone. He could at least have a little bit of fun for once.
"Okay, so...We have a functioning phone for a compass plus gummy bears to give a burst of energy. What else do we need...?"

Ritsuko headed towards the door of the train, waiting with her purse in hand while Kura went about preparing himself. "Well, usually we'd need actual food, water, and a reasonable place to sleep. I'm not sure where we'd find any of that here though, it's not like we can eat electricity or whatever's running through these woods." She explained, shaking her head towards the world outside. Now that she thought about it, keeping track of whatever used electricity was probably a better bet. She couldn't see exactly what plugs were wired where, but if it was anything she could connect to, they'd be in a much better place. "We should get to know each other if we can, the more we know about what each other know, the better we can make decisions." At least that phrasing of it made perfect sense in her mind... "The good thing is, if this really is some kind of weird cable dimension, we'll be able to connect to it somehow. I'd never thought about using WiFi in a forest, but I sure am glad I brought my laptop now!" Kiry cheered herself on, checking below the edge of the door to see where she'd land before hopping off into the grass under the mottled sunlight. "Come on, daylight might not last forever in a place like this." She called, begining to back into the edge of the forest to wait for Kura.

Kura followed along as Kiry talked, he found she certainly knew what she was talking about. He double checked what he had to make sure he didn't leave anything behind.
"Hmm...well, it is a forest, theoretically there'd be something edible here"
Kura slipped his bag onto his back and stood up, peeking up and down the train to see if there was anyone else. Nope. Not another soul. He peeked out staring at the confusing mess of a forest. He traced the wires as best he could, trying to work out if they led somewhere. "If there's electricity here...maybe following one of these wires could get us somewhere"
He froze when she brought up getting to know each other. Dang it, it was way too late to pull out his introvert disguise again and well...that failed miserably last time. "Uh...I guess" he responds, rubbing the back of his neck.
He follows Kiry out of the train and onto the grass. Looking around some more. Nope they'd definitely not crashed at least. And she was right, the daylight might fade quickly. And who knew what the whether was like here...? It might start raining any second, and Kura is way too prone to catching colds.
As he starts to follow Kiry to the forest he brings up the 'getting to know each other' thing.
"Um, so...getting to know each other, how um...like who starts...? Or do we just...talk...?" he felt awkward about well...socializing...

"Just start talking about whatever comes to mind." Kiry answered with a shrug and a small smile. She trotted off towards the forest completely barefoot other than her pantyhose. She had to hide the snide smirk on her face that was bound to appear the minute he started talking like that. Ritsuko ran into people like that all the time, behind a screen or not. But if she could just get him to start talking in the background, they could both loosen up. Calm people make better decisions...and when their best plan was following wires in a giant mechanical forest so they could try and find something 'edible'? They needed some better decisions. It just took her a simple glance around, picking through the greens, reds, and blues with a seeking pair of fingers along the trunk of one of the trees. After that, she was off, speeding at a remarkable pace once she found a wire to track. Hopefully Kura could follow along, because there was no way she was waiting for anybody in a place like this. "Hey, I think if you trace a finger along the trees you can follow the wires easier!" she shouted back, still racing ahead at the same pace, heading deeper and deeper into the woods. Kiry felt a little cord in her chest tense up, shouting was a bad idea...if there was anyone here, they knew where they were now. It was enough to slow her pace down at first, leaving her hand on the last tree she started to trace to give another look around for anything fruitlike in nature. Instead, it was her ears that caught the clue; rustling, leaves shifting, clothes turning over. It was faint but it widened her eyes. Her quick pace came to a complete stop once she heard it. "Did you...hear that? K.J.?" She questioned, swiveling herself around to try finding her partner behind her.

Kura wasn't exactly up for .... he wasn't even sure knowing each other better would even help. "Well..."
Kura grumbled slightly as he looked through the mechanical looking trees. He started to mumble his attempt at 'Socializing' "Well, I uh, I was on my way home from work and stuff before well...I ended up there" he gestures back to the train, why does he feel incredibly stupid right now?
He stopped talking once she took off, damn, she's surprisingly fast
He paused as she commented about the wires, he ran a hand along one and followed her as fast as he could. Kura grumbled some more the deeper they went, he didn't particularly feel like getting lost. "Kiry, I seriously think we should stop here"
He slowed down, just behind her...what was that...? Something was rustling in the bushes...? When she turned he had his eyes trained on the bushes and trees around them, hoping to spot any danger before anything went down. "Yeah...I did..."

Ritsuko had pulled herself to a complete stop, swivelling around to look once she heard Kura behind her. He was right, in the end. They really shouldn't have gotten themselves so deep in, but how else were they going to find anything. She raised a hand to her mouth and began to bite on one of her nails. This might as well be a lose-lose all around if they kept going...they didn't know what they were going to find even if they knew how to find it, which they were never going to do if whatever was in this giant wired forest got to them! She went back to back with Kura. Her eyes were darting around, wondering what could possibly be making that rustling. The rustling that just went shuffling on again. "If we don't move, what's the plan? Whatever's there sounds like it's getting closer..." She whispered, racking her brains about the snap she just heard in the background. "Was that you?" Kiry just had to ask, unsure of how to differentiate the sounds in this place. Staying still was just making her antsier and antsier. Ritsuko was really regretting that sugar rush right about now. "Just saying, if we need to run anywhere, which I hope we don't have to...maybe we should go back to the train..." That hopeless idea was just about the safest thing she could come up with, but if a train could take them all the way here, where else could it go? These two places were really the only things they "knew" around here.

Kura frowned. Yeah she was right, it was getting closer, much closer. A snap. "N-No...that wasn't me..." Kura replied, scanning the surrounding area as best as he could.
What was that exactly...? What was going on? Who knew what could be around them right now...? Kura watched the forest carefully. "Yeah...I think going back to the train is the best bet..." he was highly considering running now.
Suddenly some small green blur shot out in front of them. "Ack!!" Kura fell backwards, startled.
"Oh! Hi there!!" It was some small green creature staring at him with wide eyes. "Nice to meet ya!"
It circled him, its voice indicated that it might be a girl...? "Hmm...you're weird looking"
"U-Uh...w-what...?" He looked up to Ritsuko in confusion. Backing up and standing. The creature looked excited.
"Oooh! But you're really big!!" She sat down in front of him with a smile "My name is Yorimon! What's yours?"
"U-Uh...Kura...?" What was going on here?
"Kura...?" She tilted her head to the side curiously "What kind of Digimon are you?"
"Yorimon!!" Another creature nearly identical only mostly orange ran out. Stepping in front of the Yorimon "Don't do that! I'm serious! You shouldn't just run off...." it had a distinctly male voice, looking up at the two humans it jumped back, protecting Yorimon.
"S-Stay away!"
"What...?" Now Kura was extremely confused, "what are these things...?" he asked Ritsuko though he knew she probably couldn't answer that.
"Minorumon, they're strange looking aren't they...?" Minorumon seemed to whisper something in the other Digimon's ear "Wait...what...?"

There were animals shuffling around!? Ritsuko nearly kicked the two creatures away at the first sign of motion, but something stranger than the fact that they were alive froze her defensive kick in place...She was hearing them right now. The two, furry, four-legged creatures that had come out of the grass were addressing them directly. Telling them to stay away, saying that they looked pretty strange. What kind of backwards universe was this? "Wait. Wait a minute...Oh god, you're really talking...Wh-what the heck is a Digimon? W-W-We're human beings!" She stammered herself up to a shout before covering her own mouth. Her head swivelled about for a moment while she tried to catch her bearings and breath, hoping, really hoping that she hadn't woken anything else up in this giant forest. Think about something else...anything else...like, that ~mon thing is weird, right? Did all their names end in -mon like some kind of file extension? Of all the things swirling around in her head, her curiosity was able to overpower her fear, bringing her right back down to Earth. Assuming that what she was standing on was still Earth, that is. "Hey, you guys really freaked us out, so could you pay us back a little and tell us where we are? And maybe explain what you guys are?" Kiry began to question, standing behind Kura as one of the creatures tried to approach him and looking over his shoulder while she spoke. "This doesn't exactly look like a place you can just reach by some weird train..." She remarked, still looking about. The sight of the talking creatures was still doing a number on her, she'd rather not pay it so much attention as she might give anything else that might be running through this forest...

Yorimon tilted her head to the side. Then she pushed past Minorumon. "They sound scared though" she trotted up to Kura and Kiry. Minorumon watched for a time before following. Kura growled slightly, of course they were scared...
"Well, alright, um...my name is Minorumon and this is my sister Yorimon we're Digimon"
Kura blinked. "Yeah, yeah we heard that one say it before" Yorimon hissed at him like a cat, though it was jokingly.
"Use my name please, you can call me Yori if you prefer. Like my brother said we're Digimon, its short for Digital Monsters. This is the Digital world and...." She walks up to Kiry curiously "My brother said you both are Human...?" Yorimon starts to inspect the two trying to decipher if her brother was right.
"Yori! That's rude!" Minorumon said, looking between the humans and his sister with worry "don't upset them. Um, Sorry she's uh...curious"
Kura stared at them and looked to Kiry. "What is going on here?" he asked completely shocked.
Minorumon looked at Kiry. "You mentioned a train...?" He asks her calmly, Yorimon looks at him.
"Mino! This is so cool!!"

The Digital World. Ritsuko stepped out from behind Kura at the mere mention. The term itself made the fear on her shoulders lighten up its load. Her hair clung to the side of her face as she spun about, slowly, picking out all the tiny wirings and details that only now clicked into the place. "The digital world?" She asked, once again facing Yori and Minoru. "In that case, you can call me Kirame." Ritsuko introduced herself again, differently this time, all politeness dropped as far as language was concerned. Those three words were all she needed to hear. Kiry began to walk back towards the tree they stopped at before, making sure the others were following her. "I can lead us back to the train, if that's even what it is...Is it called something different? I'd like to know so I can come again." She cheerfully added, making a complete 180° from the fear she'd felt before. Kiry even spoke like she already understood what was going on. "It sounds like humans come, but it ain't too common, is it? I haven't seen someone so excited to look around me." Even when she was putting on a persona, that little bit of truth came out, leading them along the red wire she used to follow them into the forest. "At least we know things can survive out here, we were wondering if we'd even get water out here, eh, Kura? That was the most freaked out I've been in a while." From how frantically she began her interrogations on the train, that was most definitely not the truth.
