Gone Fishing. Maybe. [Keramon]

An adventure had begun in earnest. A Lopmon walked along the beach with a bag of supplies slung along his back. Though he spent some time in Rosewood to get accustomed to the outside world, he decided to continue his journey to see the rest of the Digital World and meet its inhabitants. It was...a work in progress. Rosewood almost gave him a panic attack with how many Digimon lived there, and the main part of Whitewater was even larger than that. Maybe going alone wasn't the best idea...while he was better at approaching and talking to people he had to, when too many people started to get involved in a conversation he didn't really know how to react.
He sighed and looked out at the water, admiring the beautiful, shimmering waves. He heard from the Digimon here that fishing was a common hobby for citizens of Whitewater...maybe he should give it a try...so he went to the harbor to buy some fishing supplies. Along with small raft for him to go out into the water. Thankfully it wasn't terribly expensive...hm...that was yet another thing to consider. How would he make bits? Would anyone even want to hire someone like him...?
These thoughts remained with him as he pushed his raft out onto the water. He stumbled onto it, almost tipping over or falling out of it a few times. He finally found a good spot to sit comfortably. "Yes." He said with satisfied smile once he figured this out. He paddled the raft out a ways and watched as some of the Digimon at the docks waving at him. He waved back before he looked to his fishing pole. He took some bait and hooked it to the rod before he puzzled how exactly he was supposed to cast the line. Once again his scatterbrained, airy nature managed to get him into some kind of predicament. "Eh." He grunted, disappointed with himself. Lessons should have been his first priority, but he was out on the water now...it would be embarrassing to go back now. He swung the rod behind him and cast it out, almost falling out of the raft again before situating himself comfortably as the lure bobbed against the surface of the water. A small, proud smile crossed his features as he now waited. Would he meet anyone new today, he wondered?

Being lost in the big city of whitewater had been a rather draining event in itself. Keramon had spent most of their day trying to figure out which way they should go and how to get out of the big place. Suffice to say once they wandered enough on the ground level they had enough and decided to fly above the line of buildings, much to some shopkeep's irritation that it wasn't even looking at the buildings or stalls there. Thankfully doing this also gave it a good look around the city.
Further still the young digimon also found it's way to the beach, though it wasn't the same beach that it was used to it still was a beach. A beach that it could travel along to get back to where it wanted to go. Floating along the keramon enjoyed the smell of the salt as the wind whipped past it. Even going a dozen or so feet off of the ground was one heck of a change in how the air played with them!
Keramon found itself out pretty far from the city after a bit, not terribly but far enough to where people were more commonly fishing than anything else. One particular mon, a lopmon gained their attention. The only non aquatic digimon in the area on a raft... and it looked like they were trying to fish? They didn't seem to know what they were doing? Sure they were putting bait on the hook, casting it out but there wasn't that surprising refinement that the keramon had seen of other fishers.
So it'd float down, giving a friendly wave to the lopmon. A big toothy smile spreading across it's face as it settled on the far side of the raft away from the other digimon. It didn't want to give the other too much of a startle as it started going through the motions of what the lopmon should be doing rather than what it had been doing.
Well as confusing as it would be considering not everyone could speak movements...

Malik was in the middle of reeling in the line after messing up the cast again. He sighed to himself, wondering what exactly it was he was missing. "No..." he groaned to himself as he looked out to the distance to watch the other fishers. He was a little further from the docks now and couldn't really see them all the well from here. He should go back and ask for some advice.
That plan was put on hold when he saw a Keramon float down towards his raft and land upon it. He tilted his head slightly at the stranger, though felt no malice from that toothy smile it had. "...Hello." he said with a small wave. His stare was blank, emotionless, and his tone was similar. It was as if he was in a constant state of spacing out.
He watched the Keramon start going through some strange motions, all without saying a word. Very curious indeed. Malik continued to watch until it clicked with him "...you are...showing me how to cast..." He stated. Or was it a question? It was difficult to tell with him. Either way he followed suit as he swung the rod behind him and put his back into the cast. His eyes widened a little as the lure flew much further than before and splashed into the water a distance away.
This felt much better. Malik sat down and crossed his little legs as the waiting game began yet again, though now he had company. He turned to look at Keramon again, wondering why they decided to come by. Was it because he was odd? He did seem to be the only one floating along on a raft. "I'm...Malik. Thank you...for the help." He said, hoping to make at least one new friend while he was out here.
Meeting someone that was so openly warm and friendly to him instead of being disturbed by his demeanor felt nice. It was like meeting Mei again. He wondered if there were a lot of people like that. He hoped so...he needed people who could be patient with him while he figured things out.

The keramon could feel the frustration from the other individual, a lopmon of sorts that they had never met before. They'd make an consoling gesture and if allowed would even give the rabbit a gentle pat on the top of the head. They knew how difficult it would be to get this down the first time. They'd perk up however at the greeting and gave a somewhat enthusiastic wave to greet them back...
Before tilting their head one way when asked if they were showing him how to cast. Keramon would start nodding their head so much that they'd lose their balance and have to cycle their arms a few times to get it back. Perhaps motions like this was best left to not on a raft!
The keramon bobbed up and down as it saw the lopmon cast the line out, quite a sizable distance too! They'd give a small bouncing but silent cheer before making a small motion to reel in the line from time to time just to make sure there wasn't too much slack.
The keramon beamed brightly as the other thanked them and they'd plop down next to the lopmon. Grinning ear to ear and nodding their head rather enthusiastically. The keramon would lean forward a little bit to gesture to themselves and make the motion of 'self' before gesturing to their entire body. They didn't have a name, but they followed suit the name of their digimon species.
As they really couldn't even tell people what their name was if they had one to begin with!

Malik stumbled about slightly as the raft shook and shifted from Keramon's motions, but swiftly recovered as he held onto his fishing rod. The comforting pat on the head was welcomed, a tiny smile forming as the two of them continued this impromptu fishing lesson. He focused on the motions Keramon was showing him, wondering why they didn't speak? Maybe they weren't able to? Either way he wasn't about to ask. He felt like that would be rude.
He reeled in from time to time as they suggested, keeping the line steady. He watched their gestures once more, this time motioning to themselves "You...just want to be called...Keramon? Okay..." He nodded. "Nice to meet you..."
Once he pulled the lure back all the way, he would cast it again. He was starting to get the hang of this. He had heard of Keramon before, but never actually met one. Some said some rather mean-spirited things about them, but he didn't like to judge others based on hearsay and rumors. Besides, all individuals have their own lives and stories. To say they're all the same was, to Malik, completely unreasonable.
He didn't expect to catch much of anything during this fishing trip due to his inexperience, but it would a highlight of his life if this new friend helped him catch something. Still, the company was pleasant. "You...live here? I...suppose you fish a lot. You know quite a lot about it."
He stared out into the ocean, admiring the sparkling waters and enjoying the warmth of the sun. It was beautiful. Tranquil. "I...haven't been around long. Traveling the world now...learning. Want to...meet new people. Learn who I am."

Keramon inwardly berated herself for making the raft shift. Not everyone could fly and some rabbit type digimon couldn't even swim! What if he had been one to do so? The keramon shifted a little bit and gave malik a big smile as the other followed her suggested instructions. The keramon nodded slowly as they spoke again; guessing correctly on her name.
They'd give a small thumbs up followed by a small affectionate pat on the head, being careful not to get in the other's eyes or on those little horns they had. She'd settle down to watch the other's motions, tilting her head this way or that as they continued. In some veins she could see he was jerking it a little bit? Maybe that was natural for people with proper lines... She'd give a small motion and then a thumbs up indicating he was doing good!
The keramon tilted her head, blinking a few times as he asked her if he lived here. A small nod followed suit and she'd point out towards where the treeline was. She'd make a motion to indicate trees, followed by a line between where she had 'placed' them in mid air. A hammock was all that was hers... and the fish she caught. She'd nod again at the fishing and held up her hands making a continuous motion before ending it with the 'sun' setting. She'd then tap her head and make a so-so motion with a hand. She knew a lot but not a HUGE amount. There was some types of fish she didn't know how to catch after all!
The keramon would settle down to watch the waves as the other fished, flickign one of her long 'ears' as the other spoke. How he hadn't been around long and how he had been traveling, learning... wanting to meet new people and learn who he was. She'd make a puzzled expression and make a motion to indicate 'go on' while she set up to explain the same. Only a few sun rises... and very little traveling. She'd shrug her shoulders to indicate how much she knew.
Not a whole lot if she really thought about it. It made her frown and she couldn't help but wonder how much she was missing by just staying here? Would she ever meet her parents? Or family? She didn't know.

Malik sighed a little bit, unsure how to explain it further, though her curiosity was appreciated. Her affectionate gestures were nice, though. It was comforting to meet so many nice people on his journey despite how short it's been so far. He reeled the fishing line back in and cast it out again.
"My...data is strange...scrambled...cobbled together. I feel like I shouldn't exist..." He said solemnly. "I don't really know anything about myself...and this is not my first life...at first I barely...knew how to talk to others." The fishing rod shook in his nervous hands as he continued "Every day I worry that people know who I really am a-and avoid me because of it. W-when I think about it too much I see bits and..pieces...and I start feeling guilty a-about...something I can't remember."
He caught himself rambling and took a few breaths to calm himself down a little bit. "I'm sorry. I get caught up thinking about it. I shouldn't bother you with it." Though having someone to discuss it with definitely helped, provided it wasn't stressful for Keramon to hear. His previous interactions with Mei had also helped him communicate more, so maybe he shouldn't be so apologetic about it. "We're both trying to figure things out...aren't we...? W-well that's okay. We can take as much time as we need..." He said, watching the lure bounce with the waves "I may seem...quiet...e-even cold. But I like people. I like listening, or watching...I understand others even...if I fail to understand myself or my own purpose."
He thought about what else to say, worried he was being boring "I don't have any...goals or desires...I just like to learn and be comforted with the fact that I'm not alone...s-so I don't make the most...engaging person to talk to..."

The keramon tilted her head as Malik explained himself to her, she noted that his hands were shaking as he did so and well… She’d gently reach out to assure him with a small rub on the top of the head. She couldn’t support him in a manner that probably would actually help, but she’d sit next to him listening to what he was saying while watching the lure like a hawk.
She’d give him a small thumbs up, following suit with a smile. Though she’d blink owlishly as he asked her if they were both trying to figure out things. What things were there to figure out? So far it had been simple. Fish. Eat. Sleep. Run. Things that she could do well on her own, unless there were more things that she needed to understand?
Well maybe like finding out where her friends went or where she came from. But she could barely survive right now, would she maybe have that ability later? She didn’t know and that wasn’t exactly the best thought train. She’d turn her head slightly as he said that he seemed quiet, cold. But she didn’t see that.
Honestly she was the quiet one, the one that would listen. She had big ears for that! She’d lean a little bit and give him another affectionate and supportive pat on the head. She didn’t seem to mind his rambling and with her inability to talk all she could do was make motions in the air. But upon hearing that he didn’t have any goals the keramon paused. Did she have any goals?
She’d rub at her round chin rather thoughtfully, looking as though she wasn’t sure. Though she’d make a roundabout motion [rather slowly as she was still formulating how to communicate this] that was a series of loops followed by landing on her palm with another hand. She’d tilt her head, repeat the motion once more and then shrugged before gesturing to herself.
She didn’t have goals, she didn’t really know how people worked all too well. She’d turn her head and gestures out to the forest that she came from making a sleep, eating and running motion with her arms that thankfully didn’t make the raft rock too hard before just plopping down next to the lopmon.

His new friend's constant comforting and go with the flow attitude was sort of inspiring to Malik. She had her worries it seemed, but she was more focused on taking care of things as they came along. Every day felt uncomfortable with his constant worrying and fear of what might come the next moment. Things that may not even happen or may not even be as awful as he's building them up in his mind to be.
Keramon didn't have much in the way of plans but she looked content with that. Maybe he should go with the flow as well and take up that offer he got from someone else a while back. That could help him settle in and get a start on something. Anything at this point.
He wanted to change the subject, but wasn't sure how. Suddenly, as if to answer this, he felt a sharp tug on the line. "H-hey! I think I g-got something...!" He stood up and watched the lure dart quickly to the left and to the right. He tugged on the pole and tried to fight the fish in the opposite direction it was swimming "Is this right...?!" He said while strained.
It was a struggle, and Malik almost slipped off the raft a few times. However, the fish tired out sooner than Malik did and he successfully reeled in the fish. It was a decent size as Malik looked on in shock. "Whoa, did I...did I actually fish this up?" He watched it flop around on the hook, which made him wonder "Um...so what now? Do we keep it and cook it?" he tilted his head slightly.
There was a sense of pride for Malik. With a little help and some patience, he managed to succeed in catching a fish! For the moment he just held onto the fishing pole and kept it steady "You just sort of...go with things...? I get wound up and caught in my own thoughts and worries...so much. It makes it...hard to enjoy days sometimes. I feel...like I should be getting something done...all the time. If I'm not...I feel like I'm not doing enough..."

Keramon flicked her small ears and then perked up at the fact that the lopmon got something on the hook. She’d make a motion with her hands to indicate what the small mon should do though he seemed to have a good idea how to go about this. She’d make the motions he should to try to reel in the fish, bobbing her head in a nod as he asked his question! She’d of course shift to try to help malik stay on the raft. She didn’t want her friend to fall into the water and get wet! She could only imagine how long it’d take for his fur to dry off! It seemed a bit longer than hers but she could be wrong!
The keramon shifted to inspect the fish, raising her brows as it flopped about. The keramon turned her head and thought to herself. They could cook it, they could keep it. Was the other hungry? She’d nod a few times then She’d wrap some of her tendrils around the raft and tug it slowly towards shore. She wasn’t exactly the strongest but with how this all was situated she could drag them to where they needed to go!
She’d turn her head slightly and then nod again as he clarified. She had nothing really else she could do. What else would she do? There wasn’t a huge calling to her, she wasn’t some fighter, some knight or some crazy amalgamation of data bent on world domination. She was just keramon! The mon tilted her head and continued on and then reached over to rub the top of the other’s head. She’d give him a thumbs up and made a motion to indicate walking before gesturing at the other. Then she’d make the motion of walking again but at a slower pace, again motioning at him and then giving a firm thumbs up.
If he didn’t argue with her tugging them to shore it’d take her about five or so minutes before the keramon managed to get them there. She’d look rather content at the fact that both of them were now there and that she had made a new friend of all things! She motioned for him to follow her and if he did? Well she’d take him to a little ring of stones that looked a bit like a fire pit. There were some blankets and other things that were just left here by either some mon in the past or this was where the keramon had been spending her nights...

Malik was pretty proud of his catch, and also happy that Keramon was supporting him through it all. Come to think of it, he was pretty hungry, so maybe the two of them could go cook up the fish and have some dinner. He smiled at Keramon, still happy with the catch as Keramon began paddling them towards shore, which he didn't object to. He just held on so he wouldn't fall into the water during their short journey back.
He figured the conversation on what they were going to do for the future had run its course. Both of them didn't seem to have any idea what they were going to do, but that's okay. He blushed a little at the pat on the head, but smiled shyly as he nodded at the motion to follow her. The short walk was refreshing since they were sitting down for a while. As they arrived, he looked around the little living space. A fire pit, some blankets...it clicked with him immediately "Oh, this is where you live...? It's nice." He looked around, still holding onto the fish. He didn't want to make any of the blankets dirty, but he didn't have anything on him to help prop the fish up along the fire pit, so he waited to see if Keramon had anything.
He sat next to the fire pit, fish in his arms as he looked around some more. "It's...very interesting meeting so many other people. Everyone lives differently...everyone does things in their own way...I don't know much about life or other people, so I like to see how others go about their day to day lives..."

The keramon hummed a bit as she noted that her new friend was gripping the raft while she pulled them along. It was thankfully a short trip as the lopmon hadn’t gone out too far; if he had he might of needed more than just a simple raft! The idea of having a boat was something that the rabbit like digimon loved but… what would she do with it? How would she even know how to operate it? Small little nuances that added up quickly.
The keramon was friendly as you could get and upon seeing the other blush and nod his head she couldn’t help but give a small silent giggle. He was probably one of the few people she met recently that was… well very like her in a sense. Or maybe she was very like him? It was hard to know.
Once they were at her ‘home’ the keramon turned her head to the other as he spoke. Asking if this is where she lived; the keramon slowly gave a nod. It wasn’t anything crazy and it wasn’t anything over the top. It was a simple life. One that she had embraced. Maybe she didn’t need the crazy amount of things people had in the cities… but then again she never knew them. Never understood them.
The keramon flitted to and fro, pulling on the varied blankets to look under them. Some of them had padding… others had sea shells. Heck even one of them had a few pieces of scrap metal. But she quickly found some rope and a few large n sturdy sticks. It’d take her a few minutes of fuffing around with it before it was a proper spit of sorts. She had to fiddle around with it more to make sure that they had a way of turning it before she could get started on making the fire…
Though once he started talking again keramon stopped and turned her head. He didn’t know much about other people? And seeing them live their own lives in their own way was something he enjoyed. The keramon tapped her chest, pointed at the lopmon before her ears formed little question marks before rubbing the top of the lopmon’s head. There was a sense of confidence in these motions before the keramon managed to get a fire going.
If malik didn’t mind the keramon would start cooking, she seemed to enjoy the idea of having this food with a new friend. Cooking, fishing… what else did this unknown type digimon know how to do?

Malik observed as Keramon went through her things and took notice at how she stored her various belongings. The blanket with the padding...was that used as a bed? She collected seas shells and scrap. He understood the sea shells. They were pretty. What was the reason for scrap metal? He decided it wasn't really something that needed to be asked, especially if it was something that would be difficult to convey without words.
Keramon began to make a spit to cook the fish on, along with start the fire. He sat by the fire pit and watched her cook, curious about the proper way to cook in this manner. He looked up at Keramon as she began to gesture once more. He tilted his head a bit, thinking about what these ones meant, but he chuckled softly at his realization. "Are you asking if I'm enjoying my time with you...? O-of course I am. You're really nice and helpful. I don't normally have people approach me first, and you wanted to take time out of your day to meet me. It's something I...I really appreciate." He said.
"You've learned to take care of yourself out here, huh? You live here, happy and content even though you have relatively little compared to some other Digimon. I think...I think there are a lot of things others could learn from you. You've...found a peaceful life here that doesn't need too much...you don't want to take and take and take...at the expense of others. That's...a very good thing."
To see a Digimon live life so peacefully like this warmed his heart. It made him realize how nice it felt to be around those who just want to enjoy life and help others live the best they can. He found himself highly respecting Keramon despite only know her for about an hour or so.

The keramon shifted about and stared at the fish, she’d test the rotor part and mull to herself; it needed a bit of weight to it didn’t it? She’d go over to the scrap pile, digging through it till she found a size-able piece of scrap before going over to the ‘crank’ of the spit that was needing tending to. She’d attach the scrap to the end of the little handle she had made before giving it a good test. It was a lot easier to rotate it now that it had a little weight to it. Else you would be fighting against the fish the whole time.
She’d turn her head, so that half was looking at the fish while the other was paying attention to her friend. She’d nod a few times at his query; she wasn’t really sure if people liked to spend time with her. She’d smile widely and reach out to rub the top of the other’s head. She was glad that he did and her friendliness probably paid of a bit for the both of them.
Then he’d ask if she learned how to take care of herself out here. She’d make a soso gesture with a hand; some of the people around here had been helping her. She’d perk up a bit as the other said that others could learn from her; she felt her cheeks turn a bit red and she’d wiggle her tentacles a bit. She didn’t take and take because she didn’t really have a concept of ‘possessions’ so much as just what was around her. She knew the blanket was hers. She knew the other things she had was hers. But that was about it. Maybe she’d have issues with it later but…
It was nice so far no? She’d smile again and nod her head in agreement. She liked the peace and she liked learning and doing things at her own pace. She’d gesture at the lopmon and tilt her head. What sort of life did he have? She’d motion to herself, then to her stuff and then to him again.
She’d tilt her head so far in fact that she almost fell over, having to right herself with a silent chuckle. She’d turn to their meal; it’d take a little bit of time doing this… She didn’t have a large enough piece of scrap-metal to heat up to cook the fish. If she could link them together somehow…? No that would take too long and cooking it unevenly could be dangerous!

The two of them were getting along so well. He felt a sense of pride and happiness that he was able to make such a friend on his own. Well, more or less on his own at any rate. He watched her as she fished around for suitable materials to turn the fish over the fire. She was clever and made it with what she had. It was such an admirable trait to him. He blushed slightly, but just watched her usual gestures and prepared to answer accordingly.
He froze slightly when it was clear she wanted to know about the sort of life he lived. That was a question he would prefer to avoid, but he did not want to be rude to her after all of this "I...don't really know much about myself. I know this isn't my first life, but I can't remember...anything significant about my other lives. All I know is there are...people out there that I feel like I've hurt. I can barely th-think about them without feeling awful about myself. I must have...been terrible to them...or maybe just terrible overall." He said as he found it difficult to even face Keramon, the shame evident on his face.
"That group...that group..." He took a few deep breaths to keep himself under control "I hurt them. And I paid for it. I have to make it up to them. I have to...I have to...that's why I'm alive. For them..." He said, mostly to reassure himself of this burden he's placed on himself. "I'm sorry...I do not wish to bring the mood down...I do not know what I'm going to do going forward..."
