The blade's edge met the metal of the gauntlets, and was parried off to the side, as the rain started to infiltrate the cloud she just made. A counter-attack? No matter. Fists were fists, and a longsword was a longsword. The key word being 'long'. The Ranamon is stronger than me, but without the waterwhip, I can make distance. Cannot stay here. - the voice inside the head said, as the Renamon disengaged from the blow, by making long backward hops, and out of the dark cloud.
The Ranamon was tricky - the fox could not fight her for long within that draining cloud. fortunately, she did not need to be in the cloud to do so. Yomi could only watch inside of her own mindscape, as the sword she made glowed with dark energy, and morphed into a throwing spear with a little skull engraved under the tip. Her ranged weapon. Taking cover behind one of the pillars, she would lob the spear at Ranamon - the darkness did not impair her vision, so long her own cloud was there.
With a swoosh, the weapon pierced the clouds, seeking to impale herself into the Ranamon.
And if it was not enough, another was immediately summoned in Yomi's hand.
Overwhelm those who are weaker than you. Cripple those who are not.
Inside of her head, the girl shook her head and exclaimed: But I don't wanna cripple anyone! I don't want to fight!
Then leave the Candlemon to his doom.
Yomi's consciousness went silent at that, for a little while, not having much to say to that.
In this world, if you want to do good, be ready to fight. Or compromise your morals, yourself, like a WEAKLING.

Flighty one, ain't ya?
This fox wasn't stupid. No, she was much different than the Renamon who had been babying the Candlemon, that much was clear - and it didn't take her long to adjust to a more appropriate weapon. A long-ranged spear? The increased humidity had all but forced that 'smoke' to be nothing but a puddle before the Ranamon's feet, so it was simply a matter of leaning off to the side, letting that spear race past her arm.
"Looks like I'm going to have to take care of this one..."
With another spear already in hand - and the probability that it could just as easily turn back into a sword - the Ranamon had to consider the options the fox could cover. Was that the only two modes the weapon could take, or could there be a third? Without the smoke, she could at least anticipate Yomi's movements at this distance. "Aren't you a fun little riddle?" The Ranamon teased, the water-whip reappearing around her left arm. She'd give it a flick forward - intending to 'snap' right around the back of the pillar.
But with her focus drawn on the fox, she found herself taken off-guard by something else - a bright, blue light at her same left side. Syre, at her range, fired another 'Cryogenic Scorcher' - this time enveloping the water type, her whip falling away as the water froze around her left arm!
"Grr... stay out of this, kitty!"

Hmpf... About damn time.
The Renamon was wondering when the so-called 'knight' was going to enter the fray. A part of her wondered what took her so long. Was she trying to hide the true extent of her capabilities? Well, they were going to learn, now. And the first thing the Gatomon revealed about herself was the power of ice. It stopped the water whip before it could connect around the pillar, and immobilized Ranamon by freezing her arm.
An opening.
Yes. You're learning.
Yomi recoiled back in her mind, at that commentary. It was just a passing, stray thought she had, as she was forced to watch the fight as a passive observer. But inside her mind, all the thoughts were made vocal. She could not make thoughts inside of thoughts, without letting the creature know it too. His words sounded like... praise, almost. The girl did not know if she wanted that from him.
But it mattered not, the spirit kept fighting. And the moment the frost connected, it did not hesitate.
Another black spear appeared in her hand, and was thrown in an arch, towards the Ranamon. It first soared up, blending with the darkness of the stone roof above them, before going down, seeking to embed itself into Ranamon. Between the two of them, the spirit was confident in their chances. Yomi could feel seething rage within him though. The creature wanted to teach the digimon a lesson for using that draining rain on them. But... what was more. She could feel the root of his anger. It was anger at being struck, when she tried to resolve things peacefully.

Syre wasn't trying to hide a thing, not at all - a quick glance in her direction would show the Candlemon cowering behind the feline! Unlike Yomi, Syre really didn't have the opportunity to move, to close the distance with her own close-ranged attacks.
All she could really do was buy time - which is why she snarled and looked over her shoulder. "Hide, already!" Moral standing aside, she really wanted to tear this Ranamon apart to at least drive her away!
As for the Ranamon herself, having her attention drawn in two directions wasn't doing her too many favors! Her attention on the cat, she only caught the spear in her peripheral vision, barely able to slip away enough to feel it drive into her shoulder. She grit her teeth, a hissed breath given as she stepped back.
Not fucking worth it.
And like that - she'd tear away, attempting to move back into the woods! A wound that deep would definitely take a while to recover from, so she figured the best option was to simply call it a loss and try to rob someone else at a later date. Not ideal... but perhaps not a bad result?

Tch... It flees, coward.
With that concluding remark, she felt the force of the spirit dissipate, and her feelings slowly returning back to her. The eyes slowly turned from red to blue again, and the renamon shook her head to finally get the last bits of it out of her system. She tumbled a little, hands around her head, and rubbing her eyes. The dark spear disappeared from her hand, as it seemed that the Ranamon took her cue to leave.
"Ugh... I wish... it did not come to that. Sorry..." - the fox said, tucking her head into her shoulders a bit.
"At least that's over now, huh..."
With that, the girl looked over her shoulder, towards where the little candlemon was hiding, still clinging to his piece of junk in hands. Frowning, the renamon approached and towered above him, both hands on her waste.
"I'm very sorry about that incident with the Ranamon. But is that crooked bar important enough to get yourself killed?"
It did not make sense. In her world, you just gave the mugger whatever you wanted and just went on your way, she thought. Is that how you humans deal with injustice? Your people are cowards.
Well yours are ax-crazy!
The renamon then looked over to the Gatomon. "You alright, ser knight? Sorry about the mess..."

Yomi didn't pursue, and the Ranamon, minus an injury to her shoulder, got away scot-free. It was irritating to Syre, the Knight more-or-less forced to watch the fight unfold to protect the Candlemon. But all things considered, it went about as well as it could have!
"... No, no, I should be the one to apologize." After a moment, Syre gave a sigh. "I'm a Knight. Its my job to take fights like this protect others. I'm sorry you had to get involved in this at all, Yomi."
"Well.... um..."
"Oh, just be quiet." Syre's response came with an exasperated tone, the feline pinching the bridge of her sinus with a claw. "I don't blame you, but you should have ran when the fight started so I could deck that Ranamon."
That little bit aside, Syre was also interested in that piece of metal the Candlemon was grasping onto. The candle held around that 'bar', and gave a nod! "Of course its important! I've been doing months of research to find the remains of this temple, and I finally found something! We can get a little dig-site set up and figure out just what was around here!"
"Right... and you're sure that's not litter?" The cat questioned, crouching down as she examined that piece of metal. "... Did it have smoke damage on it when you first found it?"

Yomi looked at the candlemon a bit incredulously.
An archeologist digimon? He... certainly did not look the part. Being all burning and all. It'd be hard to just hold a map without lighting it on fire! She sighed, and shrugged. Ultimately, this was not supposed to be her business - she was just trying to her home without getting killed along the way. Still, the Renamon was curious.
"So why did the Ranamon want it? Why is it so important?"
She could come up with a few ideas. Back in the human world, excavations in places were often opposed, for multiple reasons.
"Maybe you happened to be digging on an ancestral burial ground? It would be very aggravating and disrespectful to do so without permission..." - Yomi shrugged, before looking over to the exit.
"Anyway... I hope the rain passes soon... And that the Ranamon won't be too angry about us getting in her way." - the girl added, betraying her cowardly nature. But, in this instance, the voice inside her head surprisingly agreed:
Before she comes back with friends and you three are trapped here, with no way out.
Aren't you an optimistic one.

Well, what did Yomi expect? A talking shovel, a talking pickaxe? No, the Candlemon was a talking candle, and he couldn't help what his aspirations were in life, darn it!
As the fox's questions came, the Candlemon gave a sigh. "I don't know why she'd want it, but its not like Ranamon are native to his area. If I had to guess, she's just trying to steal and profit off my work-"
"Or, its just a water type trying to load the data of a Candlemon." Syre cut in, a frustrated groan in her voice. Honestly, it didn't matter: so long as this rain was pounding down on this abandoned Trailmon station, they were more-or-less sitting ducks. Yomi realized this, but at this point, Syre had enough of it.
"I thought this rain was natural, but if the Ranamon created it?" The cat stood up, gave her neck a small crack, and took a small breath. Her form gave a soft glow, white light soon enveloping her body, until a different form took its place.
The newly-appeared Sistermon took hold of one of the pistols, aimed up to the sky, and let out a powerful, flaming shot past the soaked foliage. A moment later, with a 'crack', the sound of the rain would begin to die out around them.
"... That'd be like throwing a match in a pool if it was actually raining. But a single cloud made by a Ranamon?" She shook her head. "Wish I caught onto that sooner."

"Load.. data?"
Yomi blinked. What was that supposed to mean? She didn't know. Nor did the context give her any clues about it either. More importantly, what would a Ranamon want with that hunk of junk? It didn't look like a precious artifact, more like... a stick! But the fox did not have time to elaborate on it, as she noticed that the knightly cat began evolving. Her outline changed from that of a small cat with oversized gloves to a vaguely resembling a human.
Ooooh... she's evolving!
The girl had seen it a few times before. Still she watched with wide eyes, as from the light emerged a new being. A... rather small-looking nun-girl. It made Yomi chuckle a little. "Hee... you look kind of cute this way. Well... cute-er. The cat was also cute~" - the renamon muttered, mostly to herself. "Is it your real form? Or does it just look human? It is very hard to tell in this place... I think I've seen some girls in maid cafes back home dressing up like this..."
The Witchmon back at the Dark Area was almost human too. Almost human. Watching the shot disperse the clouds and stopping the rain, Yomi looked over her shoulder, to the cowering Candlemon.
"Lets all three of us go to Rosewood, if we can... I'd rather not fight anybody..."
Yomi shuddered, visibly. The thought was still very foreign to her. Inside her head, she heard a sigh.
We have a lot of work to do...

"Of all of the things the voice in your head told you about, he didn't mention anything about that?"
Syre seemed more stunned than anything else - but she didn't want to elaborate further. For one, they still had the storm to deal with, and two, it was hardly the conversation to have in front of the Candlemon. Thankfully, the former problem wasn't too hard to deal with.
The cloud would dissipate, and sunlight would once more start to pierce through the canopy of the woods. The Sistermon blinked as Yomi decided to call her form... 'cute'? "Going to be honest, you're not the first human to tell me that this looks like a 'maid' or something. As for it being my 'real' form? Well, its as real as any other shape I can take... but I much prefer being a Gatomon rather than this." She slipped away her pistol back into the holster, and nodded to Yomi's next comment.
Rosewood.
"Sure - I'll keep this form a safety measure until we get there. No-one's going to mess with an ultimate way out here..."
And with that, and a nod to both of them, the Sistermon would lead on. With the fight and how long they were holed up, the sun would have almost set by the time they finally reached the town's border. One moment, they would be deep in the woods - bur turn the corner, and they were greeted with wide clearing. Rosewood had a different feel than many other villages in the Digital World - that is, it had a much older, much more 'rural' feel. Log buildings, dirt paths, only a single Trailmon station near the back end...
... But it was homely, safe, and well protected, with a number of Digimon openly walking around. The Candlemon stepped out, giving a bow of thanks before running off to the actual Trailmon station himself - as Syre reverted back to a simple BlackGatomon.
"Ugh... much better..."

"Hmm?"
Yomi looked at the other digimon, raising her eyebrow. Was something amiss? Was it something she was supposed to know? Her eyes rolled a bit, as if trying to look at the inside of her head. "Hey? What is it you did not tell me? What is loading data?" - the Renamon asked, but the spirit remained mockingly silent, as if not even bothering to indulge her. She sighed and looked back at the cat.
"Is it something I should know or be wary of?"
With all of these cryptic and contradictory messages, it was hard to tell. Fortunately, Rosewood was not that far off! Just over a hill and some trees, her eyes laid upon what seemed to be ... civilization! Yomi's smile grew wider, as they went around the corner, but then slowly diminished as her eyes were set upon the actual place. It looked rustic and quiet, with wooden buildings and houses on trees - like an elf village! The renamon didn't even notice the candlemon scampering off like an ungrateful ingrate that he was.
"Erm... for some reason, I imagined Rosewood to be a bit... different." - she said, somewhat deflated. This place is barely a hamlet! - Yomi commented inside of her head, and heard a chuckle ring inside of her head.
Are human settlements any different? If the rest is as weak as you are, you wouldn't even be able to lift a log.
Yomi smirked at that comment, and replied inside of her head, wryly.
Why won't you let me come home and find out?
The convo was over with a mental indignant grunt, after which the renamon looked over the feline digimon.
"Thank you for escorting me here safely. I wish I had anything to pay you, but the folks in Deepvalley only gave me some supplies to last till I get somewhere... What do you people use for money, anyway?"
In Yomi's journey so far, this was the first time the issue actually presented itself.

"Oh for the love of..."
The Sistermon shook her head. Was this really the sort of thing she should be explaining right now? Ugh, right, might as well rip off the band-aid: "When Digimon 'die', they scatter into data - and, generally, the data scatters off into the wind and returns to the Digital World, eventually forming a new Digimon. To 'load' data is to, instead, pull in that scattered data into yourself to make yourself stronger. In doing so, however, the data does not return to the Digital World. So its generally seen as a negative thing."
Simple enough - but also sort of morbid. There was a reason she was trying to stay off of the topic... but that thought aside, the trip to Rosewood went off largely without a hitch.
... To Yomi's slight disappointment upon getting there.
"A bit plain, yes, but its... homely." The Gatomon brushed it off, stretching out her back. Her ear flicked at the mention of payment, and the cat waved it off. "We use a currency called 'bits' - think like, Japanese yen in terms of how it works - but please don't worry about paying me. I honestly should be apologizing: I'm a Knight meant to defend people, and yet I left the Ranamon for you to handle. So how about we just call it even?"

"You eat... your own people?"
The look of absolute disgust flushed over the Renamon's face. This was ... sick. It was worse than sick, it was vile! It wasn't even cannibalism... To deny their own kind a chance to be reborn somewhere was akin to... soul-eating for the lack of a better term. Yomi's ears were flooded by the rabid cackling from inside her own head, as her eyes widened in realization.
"Does it... mean other digimon can try and kill ME to get stronger?! Or ... was it what my spirit was trying to do to Ranamon?"
Yomi's head turned left, then right, the mouth still agape in an expression of sheer terror, as she covered it with both of her hands, experiencing a moment of true existential dread. Freezing in place and shivering like a leaf... Or a wet blanket in the wind. Which she totally was. Feeling weak in her knees, she'd trudge a bit back, until her back felt a bark of a tree against it, and slid down.
"What did I do to deserve this... I was just an ordinary schoolgirl traveling in a park with a friend... Now I'm in a place full of digital cannibals with a 'eat me' sign over my head. I just wanna go home..."
The renamon's eyes twitched and narrowed, as she was on the verge of crying again. Just when she thought she was getting a handle of how things worked in this place. Suddenly, everyone and everything looked a lot more ... terrifying.

"Yomi... just because we're able to do it doesn't mean we do it..."
The cat sighed, shaking her head. There was a reason that the feline didn't want to be the one to break Yomi the news. She figured that this sort of reaction was going to come from the spirit wielder, especially since she didn't choose to be in this position. The answers to some of Yomi's questions were obvious, so Syre brought up another point:
"To be clear, Yomi, that part of us is more-or-less taboo to even Digimon. Current major cities around here already see it as a major crime - similar to what 'murder' would be back in your world? You're not in a world of feral monsters, Yomi."
She realized it was a fear that the Renamon was going to have to get past, the cat giving a low sigh. "As for you, spirit," the cat spoke to the 'voice' inside of Yomi, "I'm sure everything I've said was mostly true in your time as well. You want her to fight, so what was your purpose for not telling her? Did you think she'd be better off without the fear, or something?"

Yomi remained quiet for a while.
It wasn't clear on whether or not she heard to the excuses that the Gatomon was trying to push. A major crime? Yeah right. At least murder did not prevent someone from going into the afterlife... If there even was one. For these creatures it was. And even conceiving of such a thing was ... beyond evil. The fact people talked so casually about it was chilling to the core. To the final questions, Yomi listened very carefully. But inside her mind, the only answer was silence.
"He doesn't say anything..." - she muttered, and slowly stood up. Yomi did not cry, but did look at the digimon as they passed by with a somewhat unsettled stare.
"Sorry..." - the renamon apologized, wrapping arms around herself, briefly. "I was thinking to stay in Rosewood for a while... Maybe earn some bits before I could continue my journey. Do you know of anyone here that could use a hand? I'm decent at washing dishes..."
Briefly, the fox looked at her own hands. Three fingers were not bad, all things considered - some had giant claws that couldn't hold much. But having five was better. Also made writing easier. Yomi discontinued her diary some while ago, because of it.
