A Berry Scary Forest [Skadi]

So apparently, according to little Ebi, Kenny was the first real human (or 'humon') he met in his life, and, despite the admittedly rocky start earlier on when they first found the little Rookie level, both parties had quickly become friends in a matter of moments with one another, but the mention of 'Old DATS' internally rang a few alarms in the groups' heads. Kenny and Skadi already knew a lot of the shit that the old DATS tried to pull, up to and including genocide and brainwashing, and, in some shape and form, had their own reason to try and swear revenge. Probably best not to go into heavy detail about that to the kid, especially since old DATS was all but dead in the water at this point. Maybe later.
But still? There was an inherent sweetness and innocence coming from the cuddly crustacean, and it was hard for Kenny and co. not to smile at what Ebi had to say about them, especially Odin. That kid certainly had a way with words, he had to admit. He wasn't exactly the best with kids himself, but that kid was easily winning him over hand over fist. He just sincerely chuckled and gave Ebi a few gentle headpats as thanks.
Skadi, on the other hand, was quickly taken off guard by what the Rookie level had to say about her, however, feeling her cheeks going a bright red as he praised her. It just honestly felt very nice for her, honestly, being complimented by a kind spirit like herself. And that pet though... Skadi gently stopped in her tracks for a moment, just so she could turn her head around to Ebi and affectionately nuzzle him in response, beaming at him all the while.
"Awww, thank you Ebi, you adorable little thing!" She giggled affectionately. She made sure she would be as gentle as possible, trying not to accidentally knock Ebi's tiny body off from her giant head (considering her massive frame for a Champion level). Needless to say, Kenny was still grinning ear to ear watching this really cute scene play out.
A few moments later, Kenny leaned in to ease Skadi away from Ebi, "Alright, that's enough for now, Skadi. Ebi's right, we still have a job to do right about now." The Canandenmon complied, but not without a playful moan.
"Aw, but Kenny, Ebi's so adorable. I just wanna snuggle him all day!" She playfully protested, looking at her tamer with a set of puppy dog eyes.
"No worries, Skadi. I'm sure you'll have more time to later." He chuckled in response, before checking his D-Nexus once more and the map, "I'm sure the berries must be close-by. Hopefully we'll find them soon enough." That automapping feature was practically a lifesaver for the team, after all, Kenny and Skadi would've gotten lost themselves otherwise. Whoever, or whatever, made that special Digivice must have been a technological wizard.

The little EbiBurgamon kept giggling cheerfully as Skadi turned her head towards him and affectionately nuzzled her face against him. “Hehehe, you’re adorable too! You’re big and strong, and you’ll protect me from bad guys!” The happy kid responded, hugging the caprine Digimon’s large snout. Really, this was the closest he had ever been to a larger Digimon’s mouth without totally freaking out, or even feeling uncomfortable. For him that was a pretty big development.
But enough goat-cuddling for now, Kenny agreed that they needed to focus on the task at hand. Finding the rare berries hidden in these woods was a difficult task already without constantly distracting themselves. Thankfully, Kenny’s strange device made things that much easier for the group. “The Curry Berry is brown. It’s round, larger than a cherry, but smaller than an orange. I only know what it looks like because I’ve seen pictures of it in Master Cookmon’s cooking books.” Ebi explained, hoping to assist the bespectacled Tamer with their search.

Skadi gave a little but honest nod in response to Ebi whilst sharing that adorable nuzzle. Truth be told, Skadi was the sort of person willing to stand up for the little guys, human and Digimon alike. Already she grew to like, borderline (platonically) love, the little EbiBurgamon. And frankly? Who could blame her? Or Kenny for that matter? He had quite the soft spot for cute monsters himself, admittedly.
Speaking of cute monsters, however, the young tamer listened intently to Ebi explaining what the so-called 'Curry Berry' looked like, typing it into his D-Nexus. At least he and Skadi would be able to tell what they were as soon as they spotted them. Once he got the information in, he tapped Ebi on the shoulder quickly, before showing him the screen.
On the map of the screen, it would show Ebi the layout of the forest, littered with flora and fauna all around them, with the blue dot representing themselves, "This is where we are right now, Ebi. My Digivice here is capable of automapping to help us know where we are. And it can help us check whenever the fruits there are legitimate Curry Berries too. Pretty useful, eh?" He winked to the kid.

Upon being tapped on his tiny shoulder, the EbiBurgamon turned his head to see what the bespectacled Tamer needed of him. Not all the way, of course, he didn’t want to scare him again. “What is it Mister Kenny?” Apparently it had something to do with the weird device the Humon was holding? Ebi jumped on his lap, so that he could take a better look on the screen. Sadly, this meant that Skadi’s head was no longer within arm’s reach to be petted, but surely there would be ample petting and snuggling time later.
It was an automated map of the forest that showed on the screen, with a moving blue dot representing themselves in relation to everything else. “Ooooh, I see! This must be this ‘GPS’ thing I’ve heard people talking about. This is really useful, Mister Kenny. Does it also tell you where Curry Berries can be found?” The little burgeroid asked, tilting his bun-shaped head in curiosity.

Kenny let out a surprised yelp as Ebi leaped onto his lap without warning, all to take a better look at his D-Nexus properly. But the young man didn't mind, honestly. And neither did Skadi, considering all the thick layers of wool burying her real skin underneath. Kenny just gave a kind smile to the innocent little shrimp and patted his burger head/hat gently once more. There was just something in that little kid that reminded him of when he himself was nothing but a wee lad; highly curious, and still learning about the greater world around him.
And, quite fittingly for a curious little kid like Ebi, it wouldn't be of any surprise that he was taking a lot of interest in the D-Nexus' autotracking feature, like if Kenny himself was dangling keys in front of his face. He couldn't help but stifle an affectionate chuckle as Ebi complemented it. But what about finding the Curry Berries, however, considering in the context of the situation, he and Skadi literally just heard of them.
The young man awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck as he glanced to Ebi, "Well, yes and no. It doesn't exactly tell you where you can really find anything right away, to be honest with you. So it might take a bit before we find the berries. But the good news is that it can at least show everything nearby us, plus I can scan them as well, to see if they really are the Curry Berries you want. So if I spot what looks like the Curry Berries, they'll show up on the map, just like so."
He pointed at the screen in question, showing a variety of other fruits and flora around the 4 Digimon around them to show how it worked. Was there any Curry Berry in sight so far? Probably not, but Ebi looked like a clever kid when it came to ingredients, so he'd probably be able to tell if he could spot one right away.
As for Skadi and Odin, with Kenny taking care of Ebi for the time being, those 2 were making the effort for looking around them, hoping to spot the berries as well. And of course, just in case a wild Digimon was potentially waiting in the wings, ready to strike them down. And considering Ebi's vulnerable state, they would stand at the ready to protect the kid if danger reared it's ugly head.

Kenny lowered his hand to pet Ebi’s head once again, and once again the aquatic Burgamon variant smiled contently. Humon were so good at petting, it was downright unfair! How did they even do that? It was a total mystery… Perhaps it had something to do with their soft palms and opposable thumbs. Not many Digimon possessed such delicate appendages. The holy and angelic species of the Empyrean Skies came very close, but Ebi hadn’t met any of them yet.
Right, berry search. For some reason, the group kept getting distracted by wholesomeness. Well, unfortunately there was only so much even Kenny’s magical gadget could do. That was to say, it couldn’t tell them the location of the oh so elusive Curry Berry, but it did show them pictures of every other fruit in the immediate area surrounding them, which was useful in its own way. “So we just need to walk around the whole forest, until a Curry Berry shows up on the screen, right? What if Miss Skadi runs really fast? Then we’ll be able to explore more forest in less time… Don’t run too fast, though. Just a little, or else I might fall. Well… unless Mister Kenny promises to hold me real tight.” The burger boy sheepishly suggested.

For such a little kid, Ebi was certainly pretty clever, able to figure things out quickly, and without much help too, if Kenny's smile and nod in response to the little Rookie-level asking about the map was anything to go by. Frankly, that kid had a lot of potential just waiting in the wings, and any bit of positive encouragement, no matter how small, would go quite a long way for his mental development.
But much to their surprise, was Ebi really suggesting that they run as fast as possible to find the berries faster? On one hand, Ebi had a fair point; it would speed up the process to try and find the Curry Berries a little bit. On the other? Well, if Skadi did run too fast, Ebi could fall off easily off Skadi's back, like he quickly pointed out. Thankfully, the plenty of times Kenny rode on Skadi as his own personal steed, along with several instances of trial-and-error, helped dictate how fast Skadi should run normally while she held anyone on her back. She at least knew what she was doing.
"Oh, uh, I think we might be able to do that, Ebi." Kenny admitted, scratching his chin a little, "Skadi's got more than enough experience to at least control her own speeds while she runs, at least in her current Champion form." If Ebi had turned around, he would see a grinning Skadi turning her head towards him, nodding in confirmation to both of them, "Plus, I'd be more than happy to carry you, just to keep you safe and to stop you from falling, like you said."
And because you're so adorable and cuddly, I'd give my left arm to cuddle you all day, holy shit. He thought to himself. Thank God Ebi couldn't read minds. Hopefully.
Odin quickly butted in, "And if you guys do fall off, rest assured I," He put a wing to his chest, wearing a confident, reassuring grin on his face, "shall be able to catch the both of you with absolute ease. You have my word, you two."
With that settled, Kenny gestured Ebi to come over to him, "Alright, that's settled then. Ebi, hold on tight," He said as he grasped one hand onto the Canandenmon's wool like a handle to hold on, the other, D-Nexus holding arm ready to fold around the shrimp Digimon's body should he comply, his hand angling to allow him to still see the map on the screen. "You ready, Skadi?"
"As I'll ever be, Kenny!" The goat Digimon cried. Not a moment later, she started to run, not too fast as to make either Kenny or Ebi fall, but fast enough to speed up the process, just as they needed. Kenny tightened his grip on both Ebi and the wool to keep both from falling off so easily. Odin just kept pace with Skadi instead, staying besides her in case either of them fell, just in case.

Assurance was usually a good method to convince Ebi to do something, in that case being Kenny who assured him that Skadi knew how to control her own speed in her current Champion form so that her passengers didn’t fall off her back, followed by Odin assuring them that if either of them fell, he would catch them with ease. “Alright, if you say so…” The young burgeroid sheepishly said, even though it was him who had suggested that they went faster in the first place.
Still, he felt a lot less worried about the prospect now, and didn’t need to be told twice in order to sit with his back against Kenny’s stomach, letting the Tamer’s protective arm wrap around him like a seatbelt. “O-okay, let’s go, Miss Skadi…” And they went, the Canandenmon staying true to her word and running fast enough, but not ludicrously fast. In fact having the wind crash against his face was adrenaline-inducing, Ebi’s fear replaced by excitement and innocent joy. “This… this is kinda fun, hahahaha!” He laughed like the giddy child he was, enjoying this roller coaster ride however long it lasted.

Was Ebi getting cold feet about this idea all of a sudden? Who could blame him, honestly. It did seem like quite the risk, even if Skadi had kept to her word and run just fast enough to keep Ebi on. What if they slipped, for one, and Odin failed to catch him? Would Ebi's squishy body be enough to break the fall for him, at the very least?
Thankfully, that was the least of the group's worries right now. Both Kenny and Ebi held onto each other as tight as they possibly could, and even Kenny could feel any potential fears that the little EbiBurgamon had practically died on the vine, as even wincing a little by the winds assaulting blowing across his entire body, one could easily spot a grin emerge on the Tamer's face, "I know right, Ebi!?" He laughed back, losing himself in the excitement of the moment.
All the while, the running Skadi and Odin, the Peckmon keeping pace with the Canandenmon, were on the lookout for the berries as well. "You see anything yet, Odin?" Skadi cried out, her eyes glancing everywhere to see if the elusive curry berry was in sight.
"Not yet. Hopefully we'll be able to find something as soon as possible." Odin responded, also keeping one good eye out for the berry in question. With any luck, the berry would be in plain sight, and they'd not only be able to collect it as soon as possible, but they would be able to drag Ebi back to safety, without even a single scratch or bruise.
