Herald let out a small huff as she took a seat on one of the many benches around hachiko square. She had been told by a rather passionate enthusiast from america about this place; they had dragged on and on about it for the better part of the train-ride over here. It was a quick hop, skip and jump for her. She really wished she could of just came over here on her own without having to rely on the human's technology too much. She didn't want to get used to them.
But that's not why she was here, not the reason she had put out a meeting request for a DATS member. She had been given the layout of the square and in terms of things it was the safest location to do a meeting currently. At least in his eyes, she felt like a more private locale would of been a better pick but... Skald was the one that called the shots; she voiced her concerns and he told her to retreat to a private meeting place if needed.
She'd mull it over for a few moments and pull out one of those new fangled phones everyone was going on about. Putting it up to her eyes she'd slowly type something out on tamernet. She didn't much care for the darned thing, prefering to leave a paper trail over a data one that could be muddled with...
Her message was short, easily so. But it'd grab the attention of hopefully the right DATS agent. There was no real bet on which one you'd get, they didn't know the stomping grounds of each of them even though they had contacts here in the human world. Those contacts wanting to stay hidden since the golden week event.
H.Goat: Hachiko square, DATS agent. Woman with the doctor's coat and tied hair. If no one shows in ten minutes She'll be gone.
After sending the message herald leaned back, cracking open a book and turning to the last page she had left off. Humming to herself the Heramon mulled over who they could send. It was near evening, after dinner. Not quite dusk and it was a rather pleasant day out. She could feel the wind blowing through her 'hair' and she couldn't help but flick her pages a few times. She'd grumble softly and shake her head, giving her hands a small shake as they clutched at the book a little too hard.
"Tch. these fingers feel so wierd to use..."

Ten minutes, huh? In Agent Maria's opinion, that was the sign of someone either very scared or very cautious. But, DATS's access to Tamernet meant that she got the message quickly, and could travel to the square with speed.
In fact on the way, just so the recipient wouldn't get butterflies and flee, she sent a message back in the public Tamernet thread. "Received. DATS is on its way. One agent, no hostilities intended."
Whether they believed that or not was not in Maria's control, but still, she would briskly make her way toward the square. Her twin partners, the Sistermons Blanc and Noir, were stored in her digivice's V-Pet module as usual, she would only let them out if circumstances permitted it.
For now, she would look for a woman with a doctor's coat and tied hair. Obvious enough to stick out in a crowd, but not enough so that others would intervene. Maria liked that idea of a disguise.
Shortly, she found the person in question, reading a book. Agent Maria would then approach the individual carefully, stopping within a respectable distance, then spoke.
"DATS has answered." Maria would respond in a clear voice. If this wasn't who she was meant to meet, they would undoubtedly look at her with confusion. But if they were the person in mind, they would know who they were talking to.

The agent would quickly find that it was the air of caution rather than someone being scared. Her recipient was quick to respond with a small somewhat friendly looking picture of the square and a single thumbs up. Wouldn't it of been easier for her to reply with an actual message than spend the extra time sending a file?
No this was just how herald worked, the angle would give a hint of where she was sitting and Herald herself was thankful that the agent was so quick to respond. Not even a bloody minute went by before she had a response! Another five and the goat digimon was greeted by a single phrase that had them closing her book.
She'd eye the agent up and down, raising a small brow before shifting on the bench she was sitting on. Still reading the book but still ready and willing to talk. She'd pat the bench as a simple gesture that she was here to talk; not fight. If things went sour the goat digimon was quite willing to flee to the trailmon station in the train station itself.
"Wasn't expecting such a quick response if I'm going to be honest. My name is herald. Have a seat?"
The disguised digimon flipped a page and mumbled to herself as there was a small nick in the page, she didn't like how she couldn't control her fingers all too well in this form and with the small nick in the page it slid across those same fingers. Stinging slightly she'd snort and close the book. Enough of that for now...
"I should probably tell you why My brother and I went to the trouble of contacting your Institution in such a manner. That way the 'pieces' are on the table so to speak."

Agent Maria was somewhat glad that this contact was positive. If she had said this to some stranger, she would have come across as quite foolish, but, she was glad her instincts had proven right.
It helped that both of her partners in her digivice confirmed that there was definitely some kind of digital energy around this individual.
The disguised digimon offered a seat. Agent Maria supposed she had no other choice but to accept it, if she wanted to achieve anything from this outing anyway.
They introduced themselves as Herald. The DATS agent supposed she would best respond in turn. "My name is Maria. Nice to meet you." she said, offering a handshake, but supposed she'd best not be disappointed if it wasn't returned, given how cautious this individual was.
Herald then continued as to the purpose of their meeting. She and her brother had 'pieces on the table'. Maria knew chess, so she got her meaning fairly quickly. Still, she would not negotiate from a position of weakness, so she would remain aloof at this information.
"There's hundreds, maybe thousands of pieces on the table, why should we pay particular attention to yours?" she asked. Not with any sense of anger, but with a brisk tone that would hopefully encourage her to get to the point.

Herald stared quietly at the agent in front of her, she knew that these people were dangerous and she was in their turf. She had heard a lot about the golden week incidents. Two out of three had been rather violent while the third had been pretty pacifistic. But past that there wasn’t much to gleam, there weren't any recordings or the like she could get her hands on without being tracked. She wasn’t about to delve into it just to have her cover blown no sir!
”Likewise. I wasn’t sure who they were going to send...”
The PreHeramon tilted her head, noting the offer to shake hands along with the introduction of the agent. She’d move to shake hands with the agent, her grip was surprisingly strong as though she didn’t know her own strength in this form but it was quick handshake!
Ah yes now the meat of the matter! The human took her seat and followed suit quickly with getting down into the nitty gritty. How there were hundreds if not thousands of pieces on the table. The digimon chuckled softly and sighed a little bit.
”Because not every piece can offer what we can. See we know peaceful resolutions are the best option here and we’re here to offer that. Well I’m here rather. Brother is busy running both of our business’ while away.”
She’d shift in her seat, one leg over the other. Giving a small but rather cheerful smile to the agent. She wanted to delve more into it and so with that she’d make her own move. A single pawn forward in this dangerous game that could end with her being forcibly ejected from this location!
”Now see. We’re also not afraid to reach out like a lot of people are, we’re willing to work with DATS to relocate mons that come here into our business’. Isn’t it more enticing to know that you have somewhere to go from a place you’re not wanted rather than an empty sky or hollow caverns? Because I doubt that DATS wants to fight every single person that comes to this fair city. If they did we wouldn’t be talking right now would we?”
A dangerous game indeed. She took a lot for granted and with her suggestion on the table the only thing herald could really do was make her suggestion more realistic. So even further she’d pull a little pamphlet out of her jacket. Offering it to the agent. It was a detailed explanation of both of the businesses that Herald worked in or with. A bar that was steadily growing into other industries and a newspaper/delivery service. Both were fairly small now…
But with something like this they could grow and help DATS out at the same time!
”Though I’ve heard some people are fairly distrustful of your institution Darling. But that’s because of the hurt a lot of mons went through by your predecessors. A lot of eyes are on you and it’s not just the human world. Though the survivors of those events are rare to come by too. Hiding somewhere in the digital world no doubt… Can’t really blame them either. I'd say that we're offering a little bit of PR stunt that would suit long term goals on both of our halves.”

Agent Maria smiled at the strength of the handshake. That was one of the first things her father had taught her to learn about others. Those that offered "dead-fish" handshakes were probably not trustworthy. But those willing to grip a hand in return, those were strong of character. And thus could be a little more trustworthy.
Once Maria was seated and said her piece, she listened for the response. Peaceful resolutions? Yes, she'd be interested in that... but she knew that it wouldn't be as easy as sitting down and talking it out, especially when it came to her superiors.
But what Herald said was a very enticing deal. One that would make DATS's job a whole lot easier in terms of relocating digimon on Earth to a place in the digital world.
"You're correct in that assumption." Maria answered, carefully. "We don't want to make digimon in damnatio memoriae, or enemy in perpetuity. We merely want to minimize contact between our worlds. And what you suggest would make that goal more easily attainable. I like it."
Agent Maria then read the pamphlet she was given carefully. It detailed some small jobs that she thought was reasonable for a digimon lost on Earth that they could perform if they returned to the digital world.
Then Herald spoke further, mentioning how DATS's reputation wasn't exactly the best in the digital world. "That, I know." she admitted, remembering the battle with Matadrmon and his accomplices, just how completely unforgiving it was.
Herald mentioned it might be something of a good PR drive. That honestly gave Maria and her partners hope of this deal coming to pass. "Alright. I get where you're going. All we can do as DATS agents with digimon like that is brutality. But if they had an out, you'd be willing to open that gate? I think that would align with our mission."
However, she was still hesitant. She looked at her V-Pet module. "Blanc, Noir, what do you think?"
"Well, I think it's an out for the good digimon here, but might be a trigger for the bad digimon to start provoking us again." Noir answered, honestly.
"Oh, but, perhaps we could attempt a trial first?" Blanc suggested. "Attempt to guide 3 digimon to this job, see what happens?"
"Hmm, reasonable." Maria agreed. "Alright. If it's fine with you, I'd like to put your method on trial. Let's go on patrol and find at least 3 wayward digimon and see how they respond?"
Maria was eager to begin this trial, since she thought it had quite a bit of merit.

Herald didn’t know much about human culture, from what she had heard a good handshake was something hard to find and maybe it was just how people reacted to the strength that made it so prominent? She didn’t know really but… Her piece said the PreHeramon leaned back in her seat waiting to hear what the agent had to say.
”Well good, that’ll make relationships between the two worlds a lot easier to maintain if that’s the case.”
Herald rubbed her neck and blinked as the other got where she was going with it; she just wanted to be crystal clear here that she was taking a risk and well… The digimon’s eyes narrowed a bit as she realized that the agent hadn’t come along. Of course they would have their mons with them; but the question is what sort of level was she dealing with here? The PreHeramon didn’t know and really didn’t want to find out the hard way. She had nothing dastardly in store for this meeting; her intent was as clear as the sky.
Though hearing what they thought about it made the preheramon consider what they meant. Good digimon was subjective, it was all about perspective. Everyone had a bit of darkness in them, that’s just how things worked and if you let that darkness overtake you that’s where the labels started to come in. She’d huff a bit and shook her head.
”Even if ‘bad’ digimon show up for that reason it’s something we could use; thinning out the herd so to speak. If you can manage to turn them to us we can maybe use them still. Plenty of things they could do if watched carefully.”
Good. Bad. Neutral. What did it matter the disposition of the mon? They wanted workers and there were bouncers, letter delivery mons, bartenders, waiters, you name it they had something for everyone. Herald wouldn’t of minded someone with a bit of a temper or something for the food review segment, people liked a bit of ‘spice’ for that.
”Patrol? Uhm…”
Herald pulled back her labcoat’s sleeve to check the time. By her record she had already been gone for nearly seventy minutes. A whole hour in the digital world. But if she spent an hour here she’d lose seven more… and if she spent more than that she might lose a few days. PreHeramon bit her lip thinking it over.
”All right. But I can’t be here too long, I do have businesses and stuff to attend to in the human world and being a week out of the loop is a no go for me. I could do three hours of a patrol at most before having to head back if that’s all right? I’m not saying no just… I have a limited timeframe. Erm… If things go nasty should I just let you handle it or give you an assist? And in that what would be an appropriate level for me to reciprocate in?”
Herald wanted to have her bases covered, in the venue of having a nasty fight crop up from this she wanted to be prepared. Not asking this sort of stuff could be bad long term...

Agent Maria noted that Herald seemed nervous about this as she said her piece. "You're right to feel nervous. I'm risking enough here myself to see me swiftly dismissed from DATS." the young woman said, quietly. "So, let's just do our best to keep our heads down while proving this idea of yours can work. Can we agree on that?"
If so, she was willing to work within this timeframe. "Very well. I won't ask for three successes, just more successes than failures." Maria would relent.
That meant pretty much if she could be presented with one success, she'd agree to this arrangement. With that, she looked around. Hachiko Square was one of the three sites targeted by the digimon incursion during Golden Week. So surely there might be some digimon hanging around here now, perhaps?
"Noir, Blanc, detecting any holosuits nearby?" she asked the digimon in her V-Pet module. At once they replied.
"Yes. That boy over there under the clock? That's a Gabumon." Blanc said, able to detect his presence even from her position in the digivice. Agent Maria looked and saw what seemed to be a preteen boy wearing a white hoodie, looking very nervous and uncomfortable.
"Alright, we'll start with him." Maria stated to her partners and Herald. She walked slowly toward him, nodding for Herald to keep up with her, before she knelt down on her approach. The boy looked at her with terrified red eyes.
"Don't worry, Gabumon, we're not here to hurt you." Maria said, gently. "We're just here to give you advice. It's not safe for you to be in this world. You need to return to the digital world."
"B-But..." the boy replied, stammering. "There's so many bad digimon in the other world... I... don't feel safe there... I... need to stay here... I can't go back... they... they..." he felt distraught, seemingly unable to go on.
At this, Maria looked to Herald, hoping she would be better help here.

Herald stowed her book away into a bag on her hip, she’d quirk a brow as the other spoke. She was risking a lot too, huh? The digimon hummed a little bit and slowly nodded her head. It made sense to her that they should keep their heads down and that they could prove their worth on this venture. If it was successful the both of them could walk away from this with something gained, if it didn’t then they could probably figure out something else.
”Oh I’d rather shoot for gold Darling.”
The heramon shifted in her seat and blinked as the other asked her stored mon if they could detect a holosuited mon. They had that capability? That’d make spying on DATS pretty difficult if it wasn’t done by a human or someone that had some form of avoidance ability. Something to consider if they ever had to deal with them in a negative fashion.
”Must be a younger one..”
The heramon mused and nodded her head, dusting off her labcoat before following after the agent. Her face was a sunny smile and she seemed to be pretty friendly even with her hands in her labcoat. The Heramon fiddled around with something in her pocket before drawing out a trio of suckers. Grape, cherry and strawberry.
If allowed she’d approach the gabumon, she knew this sort of problem. He wasn’t wrong, there were many bad digimon in the other world but… there were bad humans too. It wasn’t something you could really avoid. This kid would probably be good at running packages or doing odd jobs back in the digital world. That or someone they could rely on to keep a good face. Not someone you’d make do dirty work.
”Oh hon. Sure there’s a lot of bad digimon in the other world. But there’s good ones too. Avoidin something doesn’t mean it changes or gets resolved, just means you’re averting your eyes and feelings on the matter. That and you’ll miss out on all the friends you’ll make. Do you like grape? Or maybe cherry? I’ve only got a few suckers but… Oh and strawberry too? Where was that hiding?”
The heramon chuckled a bit and shook her head, she squatted down to sort of meet the other’s eyes. She knew that it could be seen as disrespectful but she was trying to comfort this other digimon even though that she at her core felt like maybe… that pulling this mon into a fold would be a bad idea. She’d have to talk to skald about distancing this one from their primary works. Maybe she could get him to work at her newspaper agency? They’d love for someone to deliver bundles that was younger and full of spunk.

Agent Maria and her partners approved of how Herald was approaching this situation. They'd hold back while she made her offer. The holosuited Gabumon meanwhile considered his options.
"I... rather like strawberry." he admitted. "But... what will happen if I return to the digital world? Will I get caught up in a war like others are saying? Could I... just live peacefully, like I do here?"
It was at this point that Noir could no longer stand being a passive party to this. She emerged from Maria's digivice - the Sistermon Noir assuming a gentle pose as she spoke to the frightened digimon. Of course her sudden presence startled him more, but thankfully he didn't flee.
"Of course you can live peacefully." she assured him. "There's major civilizations in the digital world where the rule of law is present. Terminus, Snowflake, Rosewood, Whitewater and Rustport." she smiled at Herald. "And going by what our friend here has been telling us, she should be able to settle you in to a safe place in the digital world, rather here on Earth, where you are not safe."
Well, her partner put it better than Maria could. She and Gabumon turned to Herald for confirmation of this.

The disguised digimon gave a small smile and provided the strawberry sucker to the hidden gabumon. Honestly children or pre-teens were a lot easier to work with than their adult counterparts most of the time. They tended to be a little more trusting in her experience which worked out well given the situation at hand. At the next question herald mulled this over, what could she say that would support and soothe this notion of being able to avoid war?
Thankfully Noir popped out to confirm that the world had peaceful places, places that the mon's could live in fair security of sorts. She'd rub at her cheek and take one of her own suckers, unwrapping it and slipping it into her mouth. She'd let out a soft tsk as though it was her job to say that sort of stuff but she definitely appreciated the assist. Something that she didn't mind from an ally in the future.
"Well my business operates mostly out of terminus you see but it has connections in other major cities too. So if you came to work for me you'd be in one of the most safest environments in the entirety of the digital world. And while wars... happen from time to time, the digital world itself is getting more like it's human counterpart. People just want to live and slowly realizing violence isn't the answer for everything. Heck, Luminas which was this militaristic religious bunch actually have leaders that want to improve their relations with the rest of the world."
The holosuited digimon stretched a bit and gave the gabumon a small grin; she looked positively cheerful. Sure to her it might not hold a lot of warmth; but to other's it might as well practically be beaming!
"And I'll do my best if war ever does come around... to keep you out of it. I promise."
The human extended a hand, a shake and were she in another form? Well she'd add a little magic to that; she never broke her promises to others. She was a demon and it was all about the fineprint!

The holosuited Gabumon became quite reassured hearing this from Herald, that he could live a peaceful life on the digital world after all. "Really? That's... wonderful. I've heard that Terminus could be a dangerous city to live in, but, if you're telling me it's safe... I'd love move in there. Just... there's a small problem."
He hesitated before revealing exactly what this was. Agent Maria, Noir and Blanc awaited this.
"I... think I was overcome by some kind of entity before in the digital world." the Gabumon admitted. "I lost control of my body, I... I remember hurting people while being unable to stop myself... that's why I ran to Earth, because I honestly don't know what I should do if I get confronted by someone I hurt while I was under the control of another. I... know what I did to them hurt them, but I really didn't mean to do it, but... does the fact that I still hurt them means I still should be punished?"
For this particular question, Agent Maria was silent. As was Noir. However, they thought this was a good question for Herald to answer. "What are your thoughts about that?" Agent Maria asked the digimon.

”Everywhere has the potential of being dangerous but does that stop people from living? No. So it shouldn’t stop you either!”
The preheramon let out a small chuckle and then flicked an ear. So this child had been overcome by some entity in the digital world? Something that made him lose control of their body and he ran to earth after regaining control. The disguised digimon rubbed her chin thoughtfully and placed a hand on her hip.
There were a plethora of reasons that this could of occured. A spirit had broken out of their totem, a control ring of sorts or… Well. There was that wisemon and his marks. She knew that these things had various ways of coming to light and most of them would depend on the mon in question. For a gabumon well..
”Hmm. That’s a rough question to ask and many people will wonder if you’re just making something up. I know how that can be. But if it is true and that you were controlled there should be something that reflects it in your data.”
The ‘human’ leaned forward; inspecting the individual in front of her. Was there even more things she wasn’t considering. She was going to need more than what she was told here and would need time to go over the gabumon. But she saw a lot of opportunity in this young one.
”I don’t think you should be outright punished; instead I think it’s best if we approach it in such a manner to where we find out what kind of control you were placed under. Dark rings, spirit possessions, Spells, markings… There was this one digimon that made quite the problem in the digital world. A wisemon if memory serves right; did stuff with markings. Did you ever run into him? Or pick up anything strange that had an odd feeling to it?”
The preheramon was actually being quite helpful and given her knack for magic well… She would be able to address this fairly quickly! If she could narrow it down she’d know what to do. If it turned out he was lying? Well. She knew what to do with that too!

The Gabumon supposed that was logical, if it was dangerous in Terminus, it was even more dangerous here if they were trying to convince him to evacuate for his own safety.
And also Herald raised another good point, that of course not many people would believe his story about not having control. Even though it was the truth, it was an easy excuse for a liar to make.
But when Herald raised the possibility that he could prove it, Gabumon perked up immediately. He let Herald approach, and pondered her words. She wanted to know exactly what the circumstances of his loss of control was. Dark rings, spirit possessions... dark rings... dark rings... when she said those words, Gabumon remembered vaguely. A hinged black device hurtling toward him, then nothing until he was laying on the ground, panting, other digimon glaring at him with hostility. He couldn't stand it, so he ran away.
"It was a Dark Ring." he eventually said. "I've only heard rumours about them... I don't know what they made me do, but... that's what got me."
"Hmm. Dark Rings. Those are linked to the Control Spires that Agent Machine was researching." Blanc remarked.
Agent Maria noted these things that Herald mentioned, somewhat impressed with her knowledge about digital world phenomena. Because of this, she was more inclined to trust her with these matters.
"So... if I tell others that I might have hurt that I was under the influence of a Dark Ring... they'd understand?" the Gabumon asked further. "No, wait, they might not know either. Could you tell me how exactly they work so I can explain?"

Herald tilted her head a bit and stared at the gabumon. She’d consider what options there were and what she should do given each. If it was a spirit then she’d have to purge him of that excess data, if it was a dark ring there would be traces in his system… if it was a mark of that wisemon it’d be difficult to remove and quite painful! There was no hostility in her gaze; just calculating thought and after a bit well… The gabumon gave his answer in which the preheramon perked up.
”That makes it really easy to check then.”
Herald glanced at blanc as they said something about another agent? So they had researchers too? That would be useful on both halves. If they supplied DATs with material to research they could feasibly help out in the digital world without even stepping foot into it…
”Control spires usually cropped up in locations that were fairly far away from civilization. A lot of people thought that it was for some kind of testing. No real idea now unfortunately since there haven’t been any in a long time. But if one got you it’s likely that you were defending the area that the spire designated as it’s ‘turf’ in a way.”
She’d manage a small smile but then the gabumon continued. She’d rub at her chin thoughtfully and then perk up as the gabumon asked her about the rings. Or rather to explain them out to the gabumon so that they could explain them to the people that didn’t know any better.
”Well. From what I’ve read in various mission reports; Black rings ussually strike a target on an arm or some other appendage. Some have it around their neck. See what this does is allow them to supplement data to their host. Influencing them in such a way to change their perception or personality to ‘protect’ the tower. Some people have personalities that are already really workable with the tower so they just have to make small adjustments. Since you don’t remember anything it’s likely that when you were struck by it your personality was incompatible with the ring and it’s wants. So it had to introduce more data into your system and create a ‘guardian’ that worked well with it. That’s why you can’t remember anything because there wasn’t anything that you could remember. You seem to be a gentle soul and that wouldn’t work for it. So… it’d need to do something that extreme. Any questions hon?”
The preheramon seemed somewhat satisfied with her response and if the gabumon didn’t understand some of it she’d explain more. She’d glance at the DATS agents and manage a quick smile. Information to the digital world was key and part of the reason why she was even alive in the first place. That and if she ever had to deal with dark rings… she’d know what to do with them and their horrid influence.
