Katherine sat happily in the Kawaii Monster Cafe, it was around 1800 on a Saturday night, the perfect night to meet up for a new club/meetup group. She swung her legs softly as she enjoyed the sights and sounds of the cafe.
The whole area was decorated in vibrant, clashing colors that were designed to look like cakes, muffins and various strange growths. The cafe was divided into a forest, a mushroom and a cake zone. Presently Katherine sat in the more muted mushroom district, the area's lights dimmed and everything painted in glow-in-the-dark paint that caused it to have a sort of Dark Crystal feel. The whole thing was very akin to her favorite stories as a child - like Where The Wild Are - and the pulsing beat of Japanese Synth Pop was omni present. All the cafe girls - and one or two males - were dressed in short tufts of fur, thick furry leg warmers and cute, strange "animal ears". The food they served here was almost exclusively designed to look like some kind of small creature or as if it was sentient itself - often in garish colors like her dyed purple burger with black bun.
Katherine smiled as she waited for someone to show up, the small creature in her bag presently eating the "eyeball muffin" she had asked for in a to-go box. She grinned, relaxing after a hard week of work and attempting to adjust to having a partner. She secretly hoped that the people would show up and they could share their experiences as new - or veteran - "tamers". Even as she thought the word her nose wrinkled.
For her part, Katherine was wearing her black hair in a pony tail with a scarlet hair-tie, her thick, black framed glasses causing her deep, blues eyes to draw more attention. She wore a bright pink blouse and white, bleached jeans that were possibly a bit too loose for her - fanning out at the legs as was her favorite style. She paired the whole thing with a set of cute, sakura styled sneakers.

A young woman with dyed hair and a face riddled with a bunch of piercings walked on the streets of Downtown Shibuya… Well, stomping her way through would be a more apt description, to be honest. Yuko was clearly quite cross, if her stiff gait and the way she angrily clutched a crumpled piece of paper in her hand were anything to go by. Behind her, walking at a much more leisurely pace was Jokermon under his holographic disguise. To anyone else, he would look like a normal European male with flowing blonde hair, clad in a bright purple dress suit that looked anything but ‘normal’.
As Yuko barged into the Kawaii Monster Cafe, she was momentarily taken aback by the disgustingly colorful decor, as well as the loitering employees in… shall we say ‘questionable’ outfits. “What the… Did I die? Is this what Hell looks like?” The Japanese delinquent muttered in clear disdain of the place. “I think it looks positively fabulous~!” The disguised Jokermon cheerfully declared, tapping his striped, aristocrat’s cane against the floor. “So extravagant, so avant-garde! Reminds me of my evil lair back in the day…” He mused more so to himself, as he took in the sights.
Wandering into this ungodly cafe, the annoyed Tamer eventually spotted a lone woman who stood out from the rest, and immediately walked up to her, and slammed the paper reading ‘Digital Being Partner Club’ onto her table. “Did YOU make these?! Are you a total dumbass?!” She yelled at her, not caring about the fact that the other woman had barely spoken yet and looked older than Yuko.

There were three new figures prowling this Saturday night, each entering the monster cafe one by one. The first was dressed in snowy robes from head to toe, each with frayed blue trim and topped with a wide brimmed hat laden with frost; It marched with a large tome under arm, gripped by its tough gloves. The second figure had a much more motley color scheme, one that seamlessly blended together when entering the warm light of the cafe; It's robes were all light orange and the color of wood, with the only stark change in color being its large red hat that obscured their face. And finally, the giant that towered over them, carrying an ebony purse, wearing denim blue shorts over their leggings and a baggy white shirt beneath their multicolored sweater that looked like an abstract art piece. All grouped together and casually taking in the look of the whole place, clearly have never set foot in here in their lives. So believe me when I say that Ritsuko Kiryuin and her partners fit into this place like a glove... While they looked completely clueless, the tallest of them was beginning to take on a laser focus towards the mushroom area, bathed in bioluminescent coloring. After all, why go out all this way if there wasn't an objective to complete? There was a quest to fulfill...or maybe Kiry's gaming brain was leaking too far into her logical one. "There she is. She made the flyer." The Sorcerimon, Anima, pointed out, quickly spotting the stand out figure currently being hounded by a teen with an ample amount of moxie. "We're already moving in...? Need I remind you that you should be more cautious around meetings like this?" Nagged the Wizarmon beside them, Sumina. She pushed up next to Ritsuko again as they neared the woman, tugging on an arm of her sweater. "Caution is why we're here, guys. Until we find your mates, we're grouping up as much as we can." Ritsuko matter-of-factly remarked, finally nearing the woman she'd yet to know as Katherine. "Now stay together, kids." Her partners groaned as Kiry came face to face with the woman in pink, stepping up in one of her bleach white pairs of sneakers. "Eh, someone's already getting on your case about the flyers? This is shaping up well, isn't it?" She snidely chided, all before beginning to bow. "I'm assuming we're all here for the same thing?" She asked, meeting the other two eye to eye as she tried to confirm.

Ami smiled wandering into the cafe, she was more than a little bit surprised when she came across the flyers about this but as she was still new to the whole 'Tamer' thing it might be nice to talk to some more people though she thought about maybe suggesting a more subtle way of telling people about it she wasn't going to be mean.
"Come on Miku" the little pink cat trotted alongside her, she'd completely refused to de-digivolve today so Ami just had to hope that nobody would be paying much attention to ask. She really had to come up with some other way to disguise her partner.
"What...kind of place is this?" her partner mumbled quietly, Ami held a finger to her lips before picking her partner up.
"We'll talk later, you've got to be quiet okay?"
"Fine" the digimon mumbled, before going silent. Ami held her close and walked to where she could already see a small gathering of people. She felt a little awkward, she knew she had to be younger than at least one of them. Her shyness started to overtake her usually enthusiastic nature.
Mikumon purred softly to encourage her Tamer as Ami coughed slightly and bowed. "U-Uh...hi" she said quietly "I suppose I'm in the right p-place then?" she asked, looking between the three...she pulled back from one of them. She seemed....angry to say the least and Ami thought perhaps it'd be better not to get in the way of that one. She tightened her grip on Miku and smiled shakily.

Agent Machine approached the "Kawaii Monster Cafe" at the designated time that the poster in his hand had mentioned. Tonight he was dressed in casual clothing, just grey jeans, a maroon sweater and a brown jacket, with a wool cap covering his short shaved hair.
He had so far told his superiors that this would be simply an "investigative" mission, meaning that the DATS Riot Squad wouldn't be on standby unless he made a distress signal. That, he felt was his specialty, simply blending in as the role of a new, novice tamer.
However, he felt that with the new policies that DATS had in store for tamers, he had to attend this meeting. Mainly to get whoever was responsible for these posters to advertise in less conspicuous ways. Because really, after the events of Golden Week, the official government policy was that it never happened or was just a frivolous holographic display, and that there was definitely not an extensive network of human-digimon partners existing in Tokyo.
Machine planned to go easy on them. Seifer begged to spook them a little, but he refused. All he intended to be was to make his entrance as a new tamer, then gradually let them know the reality of their situation - that secrecy and discretion was ideal in regards to digimon. Heck, he'd even direct them to places they could get outfitted with holosuits or equip their digivices with V-Pet modules. As Seifer was currently located.
He entered the cafe and looked somewhat bewildered at its decor. It almost reminded him of how strange the digital world itself could be. But it wasn't quite there in its surrealism.
Seifer detected the other digimon present through their holosuits. "This is the place, Kikai." the Hackmon said, quietly. Machine patted his digivice to acknowledge him, then approached the congregation present here.
"Hi there..." he said in his natural Japanese. "I found your poster and I'm here for the support group... is this happening here?" he asked, in a natural, awkward voice. "I've recently encountered a "digital being" that claims that I'm his "tamer"? Am I in the right place?"
He shifted his black eyes around to the others present. One seemed to be a bookish girl with glasses. Another was a punkish girl with piercings. Another was a very tall girl. And the last was a shy girl with brown hair. The others, Seifer identified as digimon, holosuits or not. But they had no intention of making a fuss about it just yet.

Katherine sat up straight, forcing herself to lock eyes with the first arrival. She breathed in and gave a very coy smirk, leaning heavily into her welsh accent while addressing Yuko: "If you're going to try and out-punk someone, don't do it to someone from the birthplace of punk, yeah? So, since you're here why don't you sit? I ordered...ah... Happy-Happy Monster Cupcakes for the table."
A small creature popped out from her bag, small claws and bright, orange eyes gleaming as Algernon stated "Yeah, don't try to punk a real punk!"
Katherine bapped the bag closed when one of the servers passed by. She gave Ritsuko a soft smile, nodding. "She definitely is but I am glad for it. Maybe some insight would help, although I am glad it's not just us here together as that might get...awkward." The slightly older woman gave a taunt smile.
She gave her most genuine smile of the night and patted the - slightly overstuffed - cushion next to her, glad she had gone for one of the larger tables, when Miku arrived. "It's fine, she most likely isn't feral. I'm Katherine, why don't we do introductions?"
Her eyes lit up as the awkward man arrived, grinning teasingly. "And here I was formulating a theory that all 'tamers' - although I prefer Partner - were all women of some stripes. Although, maybe I'm judging a book by it's cover?"

The so-called punk blinked in surprise when the older woman spoke in a weird, exotic accent. Obviously she was a foreigner, Yuko got that much from her appearance, but what she was saying was alien to her (pun not intended). “Birthplace of punk… What are you talking about?” “Hah! She’s got you there!” The disguised Jokermon chortled. Well, at least someone was having fun!
More people soon showed up. First there was a woman of Amazonian height accompanied by not one, but two Demon Man-type Digimon. “Hi, Wizarmon! Hi, Sorcerimon! How are things over at Witchelny?” Jokah waved at them in the most casual manner possible, much to his own Tamer’s ire. “Don’t call them by their real names!” Yuko scolded him, before taking a better look at the two other mons. “Well, I guess they look human enough to pass off as kids dressed in Halloween costumes. I mean, at least they’re seasonal…” She admitted with a sigh, but then another girl joined them. This one was accompanied by a cat-like Digimon that was colored bright pink. “What the heck?! This one’s pink! It can’t even pass off as a normal pet! Freaking hide it! What’s the matter with you people?!”
“Yuko, dear. You’re about to pop a blood vessel.” Jokah snickered, otherwise ignoring his furious Tamer in order to take a seat and help himself to one of the Happy-Happy Monster Cupcakes on the table. He also patted the bag containing the small Tsumemon, smiling widely at it. An angry vein was pulsating on Yuko’s forehead, but her expression soon softened when a young man approached them, thankfully not accompanied by a visible digital partner. “Y-yeah, you’re in the right place… See, this guy gets it!” The multicolor-haired delinquent said to the others. “You can’t just parade your magical talking monster in public where everyone can see you! And you certainly can’t hand out flyers advertising to the world that magical talking monsters are real! Haven’t you seen ANY movies where that kind of thing happens?!”

Her blood had frozen over, her feet had near petrified themselves where they stood, but in the end, Kiry suppose she could think one thing. Point taken. That was the thought that immediately crossed Ritsuko's mind as the punkish girl continued to rant and critique, with ample warrant considering what she was saying. But, at the same time, she couldn't deny that every inch of this situation had been sunk in hot water. First the girl's human-looking partner...most likely some kind of Digimon from how inept it was...completely blows their cover, that could've been passed off easily, at least until the girl herself started to throw away every piece of plausible deniability they had with each shouted word. This mission had immediately been compromised, Ritsuko was already past the point of popping a vein, but she was able to keep her composure together by a shoestring, most definitely because her own partners had stayed completely silent to match her shock. She could use this. Any sane person would lose their marbles at the sight of one of these things, so her immediate paranoia was fitting to a disguise...Right now, she was thanking her lucky stars she hadn't been desensitized to the sight of these things. No time to waste...Ritsuko thought, blinking like mad and rubbing her eyes. She could find these fools again, especially if they were as garish in the digital world as they were here. Without skipping a beat, she headed back into her angle. "I...That can't be real..." She murmured, her voice shivering. Even if it wasn't from seeing a digimon for the first time, she'd take what she could get from her own personal fears. "Your parents are going to kill me..." She began to back up slowly, looking unnerved while taking a good look at the faces of those who'd arrived. She could have her own rant later, but this kind of inter-dimensional nonsense wasn't going to be on her rap sheet today! And before long, she'd turned around, beginning to flee back from where she entered. "Wait, what do you mean magical talking monsters are real?" The Wizarmon volleyed, raising its voice to go along with the plan they'd been working with for a while now. "How exciting. Go back. We wanna see more." The Sorcerimon however, was deadpan, much to both Kiry and Sumina's silent chagrin. They couldn't comment on it. This was a code red. It was heading for the door or a possible kaput for all of them if that girl kept shouting.

Ami went through several emotions in a few seconds. Katherine was certainly nice and calmed her nerves a little but then that other tamer went and yelled at her, she jumped a little. Hugging Mikumon closer to herself. She mumbled a few apologies and something that could've been 'I don't know how to hide her yet' really quietly.
Then another person arrived and that made her smile a little, another person could help calm the situation down right? This angry girl was more likely to draw attention than the tiny pink cat. At her age and height anyone would assume it was just a stuffed toy. She'd certainly seen weirder toys before...and it wasn't like she could risk leaving Mikumon at home. Her mum might just randomly walk in and then it would really be a completely mess. Then the other girl started to act surprised at the Digimon.
Ami looked shocked and confused before she looked the angry tamer and began to speak quietly. "Uh...I get where you're coming from completely, but...keep your voice down. You'll draw way more attention like that!" Ami slipped her partner into her empty satchel before glancing at the other girl who started to run off.
Ami wasn't sure what to do at all. She was a shy 13 year old with little to no experience in this sort of situation but she needed some kind of...solution right? Surely she could think of one... "Um..." maybe...if any attention had been drawn to them, she could divert it... maybe she could pretend...it was...oh! "I can't believe you were able to quote the book perfectly!" she said, a fair bit louder that way it explained away the weird conversation.
"But yeah, since this is our first book club meeting, we really should all sit down and introduce ourselves to each other! You startled us for sure!" she put as much confidence into her voice as she could, looking pointedly at the angry girl. She needed to play along. Ami sat down before deciding to introduce herself first, there was way too much tension "My name is Ami Kurino! Nice to meet you all!"
Please tell me that worked. Please. Please. Please... Ami thought to herself, shaking a little. She wasn't used to trying to take charge of a situation and she generally sucked at it. She resigned into herself hoping to have settled the angry tamer down and calmed down the situation. Ami nervously pulled out her phone fiddling with it.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything...

Agent Machine remained silent for a few moments as he took in the other participants of this meeting. It seemed the convener was a girl called Katherine. She made the logical request that they introduce themselves first.
First, the punk girl pretty much said everything that he was going to say, albeit more brusquely. "Yuko has a point there, your posters could have led to some unsavoury individuals coming here to attend this meeting as well." he said, but smiled again nonetheless. "Hopefully we got lucky here and none of those came along as well."
He'd say this as a means of emphasizing that meetings between digimon tamers should be discreet. "Dressing and speaking loudly probably won't help us in the long run though." he chose to add.
Machine noticed that the last member of the initial meeting seemed like a scared little girl. At this point, Seifer had to intervene.
"Please let me out, I can't bear this anymore."
Agent Machine sighed and complied, raising his digivice. "Seifer, Realize." he said, then in a flash of purple light, a small Hackmon appeared. He didn't do anything other than jump back onto the young man's lap.
"Before I begin, that was a function of the V-Pet program of the digivice, which is useful for hiding your partners from prying eyes." he explained. "Anyway, my name is Hideaki, my partner's name is Seifer. He's a Hackmon, and I'd prefer to only reveal him once I'm sure we're safe from public eyes from now on."
By now, he hoped that the general bizarreness of the restaurant covered for the ludicrosity of digimon appearing from thin air. Still though, he wanted to gauge how they reacted to this statement, mostly out of curiosity than actual intention of carrying out such an operation.

Inside the bag, the tiny claw digimon squeaked as the Jokermon patted his "ride", peaking out with a darting, orange eye. It was quickly distracted as one of the Happy-Happy Monster Cupcakes was passed to him. Algernon diverted his attention from the others towards his "prey".
Katherine took Yuko's critiques in stride, holding back a wiry smile at Jokermon's retorts and teasing. She turned and eyed Ami with a smirk. "Yes, I liked that reading, Yuko. But I think - Ami was it? - is right that we shouldn't just quote it so loud." Quickly, Katherine rummaged in the bag and pulled out a 4th edition copy of Dante's Inferno - hopeful no-one would notice that the topic had noting to do with monsters per say.
"But, my favorite passage is here: 'How rough that wood was, wild, and terrible: By the mere thought my terror is renewed'." She gave a taunt smile as the "agent" explained himself. She leaned forward, smiling at the Hackmon before giving a grin. "So, that's called a Digivice? I suppose you're an expert, then? Algenron and me only just linked up. Hmm...if not flyers, how do we advertise for our...ahem....book club?"

“Our parents? What the heck are you talking about?” Yuko puzzledly asked, raising her pierced eyebrow at the tallest girl’s antics, who seemingly had a freak out, turned tail and left along with her two wizard-y friends. “Stop. Don’t. Come back.” The disguised Jokermon half-heartedly called out to them, as if there was no urgency to them leaving. He was more so trying to mimic Sorcerimon’s disinterested tone for fun, which became apparent when he went back to his spritely mannerisms, giving a very animated shrug. “Oh well, I tried. More food for us, isn’t that right, little friend?” He said to the tiny Tsumemon that revealed itself, petting its head with his finger.
The smallest of the girls, Ami, started pulling a charade as if they were discussing the latest book they’d read. The oldest of them played along, quoting a book of her own. Only then did it dawn on Yuko that they were trying to cover for her, who had compromised this entire meeting with her loud yapping. “Oh, yeah… Book club! We’re in a book club! Great book, Ami-san!” She exclaimed, making up for her earlier carelessness.
The boy introduced himself as Hideaki, revealing his partner Hackmon after making sure that no prying eyes were on them. “Hakkumon?” Yuko repeated the hooded Digimon’s name in a thick Japanese accent. “HACK-mon. They get very sensitive when you mispronounce their names…” Jokah corrected her, leisurely nibbling on his cupcake. The multicolor-haired teen rolled her eyes at that. “Seifer works too. Anyway, I’m Yuko, and this is…” She turned back to her partner with a questioning look. “You may call me Jack White for now. That’s how I introduce myself to most people here.” Jokah said, ‘here’ of course referring to the world of humans.
Yuko then turned to the foreign woman, nodding at her question. “Yeah, that’s the general term for it. They come in many different designs…” She sat down and explained, pulling out her own Digivice, which she held under the table so that nobody could see from afar. It was a D-Arc model colored purple and red, with a strap decorated in playing card suits. “I’ve only been doing this for a couple of months myself, but I can safely tell you that it’s not something you wanna advertise. Certainly not here. Maybe you could advertise it in… the other place.” The teenage Tamer meaningfully said.

Mission Accomplished. She'd escaped a situation about to go terribly wrong. Nothing lost, nothing gained, and for someone completely out of the loop like she was, that was a good thing... But, there had to be a different way to go about this. Half these people were as new as her and still intent on staying...Wasn't that the whole point of coming here? To get an idea about who she was dealing with? Ritsuko had been struck by this lightning round of thoughts while she held her cover all the way to the walls of the cafe. Kiry swiveled her way back around the edges, scanning the place for a restroom much to the confusion of her partners. "What are you doing? I thought you'd finally come to your senses." Anima scolded, still holding close to Kiry's shoulder and narrowing his eyes. "I may have supported you a little in this, but, I don't get why we're going back...This isn't like you. It is...it's freaking me out." Sumina glanced around as well, showing the spreading cracks in her composure. "Well don't freak out. I wasn't raised to be a quitter and I'm not starting now...we're going to avoid a wipe..." She whispered to them, heading into the bathroom and retreating to a stall to quickly retrieve her partners with the V-Pet she kept in the back pocket of her purse. This better have been money well spent, she thought...waiting for a moment to avoid much confusion before heading out again. For anyone not watching, it'd be as easy as "I took them home, no trouble." but for now, she had to slowly migrate back to the group, looking a bit more bashful than terrified. That'd work...hopefully. Better not to break character even if she did have to take emergency action. "Phew, they would've been a handful. Fanatics, those two. If I kept them around they would've yelled more about it than you did." She remarked, looking to Yuko. "Now where were we?" Kiry asked, hoping to provide some sort of out, even if she'd already missed her own.

Ami sighed thankfully everything was going okay it seemed. The charade had worked at least.
Ami smiled a little at the new Digimon and what seemed to be a great way to hide it. Especially for Mikumon, who lets face it, doesn't like to be hidden. Even if she's good at it in the digital world.
"Miku you and I might have to try that" she whispered to her partner who didn't respond. probably fast asleep inside the satchel.
She took a deep breath as she spoke up. "it's a pleasure to meet you both, Hideaki and Seifer. I hope we can be friends!"
She bowed a little before moving onto her next thought.
"Where did you get the uh...V-pet function thing? if I may ask, my friend doesn't like to be in her younger form so it's kinda hard to keep her secret"
Ami seemed to have relaxed a little though she was still a bit hesitant about talking to all these new people. This was a great chance to learn some more from other tamers even if it did start out a little... rocky to say the least. Ami put her phone away finally comfortable enough to stop fiddling with it.

Agent Machine was quick to answer Katherine's question. "I take it that when most of you received your digivices, you also received this object as well?" he held up his D-Terminal, which resembled a mini flip-lid computer. "This is called a D-Terminal, and it can give you secure private access to the network of digimon and tamers known as "Tamernet." Hopefully that can be a more secure method of gathering new individuals to this group rather than putting up flyers and posters... especially with the government taboo put on recently since the events of Golden Week."
After Seifer emerged from his V-Pet module in Machine's digivice, he merely shrugged at the conversation about the pronunciation of his name. "I honestly prefer Seifer, but, call me what version of "Hakkumon" you want if that's too hard, I guess." he answered.
Agent Machine glanced at the colourful girl as she mentioned the "other place." While he was glad she was being discreet about it, he regretted that he could not say more about it himself.
Meanwhile, he noted that one of their number had retreated to the bathroom for a little while, then returned, asking where they were up to.
"I believe we were talking about how to best take care of our digimon partners." Agent Machine answered. He still had no reason to reveal his true affiliation, and for the moment he was still settled into his predetermined role of just guiding new tamers to take care of their partners properly.
Next, the seemingly shy girl asked Machine where it would be best to get the V-Pet function module. With this, Machine felt confident enough to dispense with advice.
"Your best option? Head to Shibuya station and go to the elevator. Hold your digivice up to the panel, and it'll take you to the right floor. From there, it's a 30 minute train trip, and you'll end up in the digital world. It's easy to find the Terminus City shopping mall. From there, you can have your digivice upgraded to hide your partner." he said. He spoke clearly enough so that all of those present could hear what he was saying.
Seifer glanced back up at him with confusion, wondering why he was telling them all this information. But supposed it was best that he simply trusted him for now.
