Birds of a Feather (Unica & Birdie)

After paralyzing the fools, the plan was to get some distance away from them and come up with another strategy, now knowing that her target was fast on his feet and his accuracy was nothing to take lightly. She needed to be a bit more clever with her next move. As she flapped her wings once... then twice... in preparation to take to the skies again, the human moved in front of her digital partner, standing between both avian Digimon. Her movements were stilted as she clearly fought against the Charming Tweet attack, which paralyzed other rookie Digimon with ease but wasn't meant for human ears. With what little control she had over her body, Kaya made an effort to stand between the two combatants. This should have warmed Birdie's heart, seeing such a selfless sacrifice and witnessing a human begging for her partners' life. But since the Biyomon wasn't the sentimental type, it didn't make her stop to reconsider her next actions. No. Instead, it enraged her. Her already maddened expression grew ever more feral as she recalled Unica, her own human, screaming and sobbing for her to stop fighting. How dare Unica try to stand in the way of true power... and how dare this girl, this "Kaya," stand in her way, literally. She was no longer interested in falling back and reexamining her battle strategy. She wanted the girl dead. With ruffled feathers, curled wings, and a glare that could pierce through the toughest metals, Birdie prepared to attack again. She was overcome with a primal, animalistic drive to kill -- a hunger which blinded her to the fact that her Charming Tweet attack was beginning to wear off. Without a word of conversation spoken between then, Birdie flapped her wings and cartwheeled along the forest floor, barreling toward Kaya and Hawkeye as the air around her body began to spin and create a small tornado, one not too different than the one Hakweye had avoided moments prior. "Spiral Wing!" she screamed while popping out of the cartwheel and floating in mid-air a short distance away. All the while, the human-sized tornado continued heading directly toward her two seemingly helpless victims. BATTLE LOG: Birdie successfully paralyzes Hawkeye with Charming Tweet, but Kaya resists the effects and stands between the two Digimon. Angered by this act of selflessness, Birdie attacks Kaya with Spiral Wing (Birdie cartwheels toward the enemy, summoning a small tornado in the process).

At this point Kaya wasn't naive enough to think that Birdie would have a total change of heart with the way that she had stood in front of her and Hawkeye, but she wasn't expecting Birdie to actively try to harm Kaya either. That was a major mistake, doubting Birdie to not kill a defenseless kid. The Biyomon sent another tornado attack towards Kaya, one that would basically severely injure any human that got caught in it.
Kaya stared at the tornado with a look of fear, to the point where she didn't even notice that Hawkeye had broken free of the Charming Tweet paralysis and pulled Kaya out of the way of the tornado. The human came back to reality when she fell down to the ground, pulling herself up and looking right at the Hawkmon. "Hawkeye...?"
"Oh, thank goodness," Hawkeye said as he almost broke into tears. He wanted to give Kaya a big hug but managed to restrain himself. "Are you alright?!"
"Yeah... I hope so..." The young girl would lift herself up and rub her eyes, only to find that her right hand was glowing orange. "What the...?!"
"It can't be..." Hawkeye gasped, knowing perfectly well what this meant. "Kaya, you ready?! Touch the top of the Digivice with that hand!"
"Right!" Kaya would then do exactly what Hawkeye had instructed her to do, which made the energy from her hand go right into the Digivice itself. Two sentences appeared on screen:
DNA Charge activated. Digivolution in progress.
"Hawkmon, digivolve to..."
Hawkeye suddenly began to change and morph. In place of the archer Hawkmon was now a majestic humanoid angel with a black mask, lucious flowing hair and a golden bow. "Angemon!"
Kaya was in awe of what she had just seen happen to her partner, and Birdie was probably freaking out at this point as well. The new champion level Digimon would fly right up into the air, pull an arrow from his quiver, charge it with yellow energy and shoot it right at Birdie. "Holy Arrow!" Hawkeye digivolves into Angemon and fires a Holy Arrow at Birdie.
Holy Arrow: Hawkeye creates a bow made purely out of holy energy, more powerful than a normal energy arrow. Cooldown is three posts.

The tornado missed Kaya. It was a disappointment in and of itself, but the true irritation came from the fact that Hawkeye had been the one to save her. No doubt granted strength by the power of friendship, or some such nonsense. Annoying. And what gave them the right to carry on a conversation as though Birdie wasn't there? Turning their backs on her would be the last mistake they ever made. The Biyomon swooped in, closing the distance in a matter of seconds. "Chirping Attack!" she announced, the claws on her wings growing larger and sharper in the very same moment that Hawkeye's body began to glow and morph. Birdie knew what this meant, and she knew that the moment the transformation was complete, she would have a more difficult time taking these imbeciles down. But it was too late to stop now. She was coming in too fast, and all logic had long since been dismissed in favor of violence. Birdie rapidly flapped her wings in front of her of body, hoping to get in a few hits and, with any luck, prevent Hawkeye from digivolving altogether. Whether her attacks actually hit didn't have any bearing on Hawkeye's glorious transformation to Angemon, however. Birdie paused, overcome by a subtle twinge of fear and awe as she watched her angelic rival launch into the air, hover in place, and notch yet another arrow. When it began to radiate with a heavenly yellow light, Birdie snapped out of her trance and her muscles twitched in preparation to move if and when he let the arrow fly. As Angemon released his grip and the yellow light whizzed through the air, Birdie shifted. She was prepared this time. She wasn't being attacked at point blank range and this attack wasn't as fast as the electric one, and those two facts were perhaps the only reason she was able to get away. Without another moment's hesitation, the rookie avian snapped her gaze toward Kaya and lunged forward, narrowly dodging the incoming arrow and pinning the girl to the ground with curled crimson talons. Birdie had been avoiding the young tamer up until this point because she had perceived the girl as a threat, but she now knew the opposite to be true. The human had no power when compared to a Digimon even one as low level as a rookie. Furthermore, she was Hawkeye's weakness. He wouldn't attack Birdie when she was so close to his master, right? He wouldn't risk hurting his precious "friend." Birdie stayed still, uncertain what to do next, and cast her gaze toward the Angemon to see what he would do next. BATTLE LOG: Birdie attempts to use Chirping Attack (while in mid-air, Birdie attacks the enemy with both of her wings) but misses when Hawkeye evolves to Angemon. Birdie avoids Holy Arrow and pins Kaya to the ground in the process.

In a desperate attempt, Birdie had charged to attack Hawkeye right as he was about to Digivolve in an attempt to stop his Digivolution altogether. At that point Hawkeye's data would essentially just be pure light so the attacks would not have even connected with him.
Now an Angemon, Hawkeye could definitely see the slight fear in Birdie's eye as he prepared his Holy Arrow. Despite his aim being true, Birdie still managed to dodge right out of the way of the Holy Arrow. She was lucky, for that arrow could probably have wounded her greatly in her current state if it actually hit.
Right after dodging out of the way, the Biyomon would lunge straight towards Kaya, her talons heading right towards the young human. Kaya did nothing but hold her hands in front of her, with her Digivice in one of them. Right as contact would be made, the scene played out seemingly in slow motion as a solid light baton shot right out of the Digivice, hitting the Biyomon away just in time before she pinned Kaya to the ground. In Birdie's brief moment of defenselessness, Hawkeye would pin her to the ground himself with his own foot, now aiming another uncharged arrow right at the Biyomon.
"It would be so easy for me to delete you right now Biyomon. A human does every she can to show you kindness, and you repay it with aggression, prejudice and violence. Explain yourself, NOW." Birdie would attempt to pin Kaya to the ground, but she hits her with a Hardlight Baton at the last second, causing Hawkeye to be able to pin her down instead.

The sudden appearance of the baton was an unexpected turn of events. Birdie had been too presumptuous. This girl wasn't completely defenseless, at least not as defenseless as every other human she had the misfortune of meeting. Kaya was a dirty fighter by relying on the digivice. What right did humans have to use digivices like that? Digivices were supposed to be used to make Digimon stronger, but Kaya had used it to defend herself -- and it felt like blasphemy. Harming Digimon with the very tool used to make them stronger? What kind of sense did that make? None. It made no sense, to Birdie. And for this reason, she was fuming. Any and all anger the Biyomon felt was suddenly redirected solely to the girl as the light beam struck the side of her face, causing Birdie to stumble to the side, her cheek aching and her ears ringing from the blow. She tried to fight off the disorientation, to turn her attention back to the "tamer," to kill the girl once and for all... but just as her vision began to focus again, she was slammed to the ground by an enraged and defensive Hawkeye. Reflexively, Birdie reached up and wrapped her claws around his ankle, doing her best to keep his foot from crushing her under all his body weight. When he threatened her and demanded answers, the avian merely sneered and glared up at the Angemon. And yet, there appeared to be a subtle twinge of fear or confusion in her expression. How could this have happened? Humans made Digimon weak, but Hawkeye had managed to overpower Birdie in a matter of seconds with Kaya's help. What was going on? Had Birdie been wrong? Were humans actually an asset? ...No, her opponents were cheaters, that's all there was to it. They were just big bullies. The irrational and rational parts of her mind battled with one another, making her even more frustrated at her inability to make sense of how she ended up being prey. She wanted to make Kaya and Hawkeye hurt for humiliating her and confusing her like this, but she also valued life and feared deletion. Knowing that speaking her mind or fighting back would likely result in the Angemon releasing his arrow at point-blank range, Birdie decided instead to keep her beak shut. BATTLE LOG: Birdie is dazed by Kaya's baton and is subsequently pinned to the ground by Hawkeye. She remains silent as she contemplates her next move.

Kaya absolutely did not mean to have the light baton harm Birdie in any way. In fact she didn't even KNOW her Digivice could do that. She just panicked and tried to guard herself when Birdie leaped towards her in an attempt to pin her down, she wasn't expecting anything to just straight-up hit her. Even though it helped Hawkeye out tremendously, Kaya still felt bad.
"OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD! I am SO sorry! I didn't know my Digivice could do that...!" The twelve year old had tried to plead, although Birdie most likely wouldn't believe it.
While Hawkeye was pinning Birdie down with his foot, he was careful enough to not have her feel like she had to struggle for air, although she still wouldn't be able to escape. When he asked for answers, Birdie of course glared at Hawkeye... but he could tell there was a bit of fear as well. She was afraid of being deleted, like most Digimon would be. Like Hawkeye once was... no, still is.
He lowered his bow and arrow, his foot still on the Biyomon. "I know you're going to use that paralyzing attack again. You can either do that, even with the chance that I can resist it, or you can simply tell us why you did what you did and apologize, and we'll let you go and not chase after you. It's your call, but... she still believes you can do the right thing."

"I know you're going to use that paralyzing attack again." Hawkeye was skilled at reading his opponent, Birdie had to give him credit on that. If she used her Charming Tweet attack again and if it worked even a little, his muscles would've locked up, infusing his body with a type of rigor mortus. She wouldn't have to risk him accidentally releasing the arrow because he wouldn't be able to release his grip. But then there was still the question of whether she'd even be able to get out from under his foot. Probably, she told herself. The locking of his muscles only meant that he wouldn't be able to fight back if she pushed him over or weaseled her way out from under his foot. It was either that or the alternative, a confession and an apology. Birdie knew that by speaking her truth, she'd only be painting more of a target on her back. She wasn't stupid or prideful enough for that. She could forgo the monologue about wanting to kill all humans and enslave all Digimon, and instead jump straight to the apology. That strategy was something she was acutely familiar with, much to her dismay. Growing up, she was always apologizing and pleading for mercy to those bigger and stronger than her. But doing all that, submitting to the oppressor, was nothing more than a sign of weakness... and she refused to be weak. The groveling would be a last resort. Only a last resort. At least then, with any mercy, Hawkeye and Kaya would let her go and she'd have the chance to get even stronger. Then, once stronger, she'd seek them out and force them to grovel before her instead. That would show them! That would teach them never to mess with her again! However, she still had options before that, before the apology. Namely, Charming Tweet. Hawkeye was only a Champion, so Birdie's defensive attack probably would've worked against him, though it was unclear just how much it would actually do. She needed to try, though. This was the only way she could figure out how to escape without having to ask for forgiveness. The Angemon seemed confident that he could completely resist whatever attack Birdie tried to dole out, and he seemed just as positive that she would try to run away, rather than continue to fight. This claim surprised the partner-less Biyomon, not only because that was exactly what she was planning to do -- flee in order to survive another day -- but because everything she'd done up until this point was fairly aggressive. It made sense that if she was able to paralyze the duo and slip free then she'd attack while there was an opening. His confidence pissed her off. Then again, perhaps he saw the fear in her eyes and knew that she'd run away the first chance she got... Of course, Birdie never spoke any of this aloud. She didn't want her opponent to know just how afraid, just how vulnerable, and just how cornered she really felt. Instead, she narrowed her eyes in aggression and gave a slight smirk. She needed to look confident to evoke some intimidation of her own. Yes, she was pinned to the ground, but if it looked like she was just as certain of her plan as Hawkeye was about his, perhaps she'd rattle him. Without a single word spoken, Birdie began to whistle and chirp again. It was odd hearing such a cute, pleasant melody from such a vile Digimon, but the tune was heavenly all the same. BATTLE LOG: Birdie remains pinned by Hawkeye. In a desperate attempt to escape, she uses Charming Tweet (Birdie is capable of charming and immobilizing an enemy by whistling a cute song).

Hawkeye saw the devious smirk that the Biyomon had made. He knew what choice she had decided to make. So right before Birdie used the Charming Tweet attack, Hawkeye charged his arrow with blue energy and released it right at her, pinning her to the ground with ice. She would be able to break out of it soon, but not right this second.
After doing so, Hawkeye would be affected by the Charming Tweet, but he would still at least be able to move and fly, if not as gracefully as he once could. He walked up to Kaya before holding a hand down for her to hop onto. "Come on, we're getting out of here."
Kaya hesitated at first, but she eventually nodded and got onto the Angemon's hand. He would then place Kaya onto his shoulder before he took off, leaving Birdie to fend for himself. It wasn't worth fighting her anymore.
Kaya still looked back at the plot of land where they just were, feeling sorry for the bird but also angry at the same time. She didn't know what to think at this point. "Hawkeye... am I a bad person?"
"Why would you say such things, Kaya?"
"That Biyomon... Birdie... she seemed hurt. Badly. I just wanted to befriend her and now I just feel so... so hurt."
"Not everything is as black and white as you think, Kaya. They can't be swayed over from their horrible nature with snacks and kind words. I'm afraid 'Birdie' is destined to forever be a bad Digimon."
"But I don't want to believe that! I refuse to believe that..." After today though, she might be considering it...

The Charming Tweet attack was cut short as Hawkeye's arrow surged with a blue energy and was subsequently released into Birdie's chest at point-blank range. Her cute chirps instantly turned into screams of agony as the projectile sunk into her chest. Small pieces of data seeped from the wound, floating upwards and seeming to defy gravity as they disappeared into the air. Spreading from still-lodged arrow was a frigid chill that gripped Birdie's body like the hand of death, stiffening not only her muscles but also her flesh and feathers. Glancing down, the Biyomon instantly realized why: her torso and wings had been frozen over with ice. "No!" she screamed, straining against the frostbite that had overcome her. Her attention snapped back to the Angemon who was flying out of the forest with Kaya on his shoulder. "Come back here!" she screamed, "And fight me like a real 'mon!" It was clear from the cracks in her voice that she was hysterical, fueled only by pain, rage, and adrenaline. She knew that if the duo turned around and continued the fight, she'd be as good as gone. There was no way she'd stand a chance against them, especially in her current state. But she felt like she still had something to prove. "Coward!" was the last thing she shouted as Hawkeye and Kaya disappeared from sight. BATTLE LOG: The battle concludes when Hawkeye pins Birdie to the ground with an ice arrow and leaves the battlefield before Birdie can free herself.
