So, whoever the Mazoku were, they were nowhere to be found. For reasons unknown, the Dark Fortress had already been reduced to a pile of ruins by the time the infamous, self-proclaimed Demon King had gotten there, making the sacrifice of his former ally and dearest friend pointless. Not wanting her partner to get any more ‘dust in his eyes’, Yuko reasoned that the best thing they could do was visiting the Village of Beginnings as soon as possible, in hopes that they’d find whatever remained of Arlecchimon there. So, they did.
There was, of course, one giant issue with that plan, which would become apparent the moment they set foot on the toy-like landscape; Namely, the ground was littered with hundreds, if not thousands of baby baskets containing Digitamas of various colors. “Shit, there’s so many of them! How can we tell which one is Arlecchimon?” The Japanese delinquent exclaimed in shock. “Worry not. If I see it, I’ll recognize it.” Jokermon confidently reassured her. “It’s the one with the funny pattern.” “They ALL have a funny pattern!” Yuko replied, sighing loudly. She really hadn’t done this sort of thing before. When a human died, they typically stayed dead, but Digimon were different. “I guess we’ll have to check them one by one…”

As always, the Village of Beginnings was bright, colorful, and welcoming; a place that almost seemed as though it were built for the bottom up with the children that would, of course, be born here in mind. Not only were there the fields with the numerous digitama, but even hatched young digimon - Fresh and In-trainings - running around and playing, looked over by their Elecmon and Swanmon caretakes; who, too, would watch Joker and Yuko as the duo searched around. However, in the wake of the virus-type Champion, a few of these caretakers seemed to be watching Joker and Yuko with a more careful eye than others - as though they were unsure if he was a danger or not - albeit none would act against him, at least. They'd simply leave the duo to their wanderings through the village for the time being, seeming more concerned on simply making sure that the children were playing nice, and that they weren't wandering out of their watchful sights. For the time being, though... There wouldn't be much to be said as to where Arlecchimon's egg was; none of the eggs, nor the sleepy Fresh, or the playful In-Trainings, seemed to fit the bill so far; at least, untill... "Makotoooo!" A calling voice might draw their attentions, to a nearby Elecmon - the digimon that seemed to be the source of the calls, as he glanced around. "Makotoooo, where'd you run off to..??"Upon spotting Yuko and Joker, the Elecmon would approach the duo; scratching the side of his head. "Ah, pardon me asking a couple of visitors for help; but have you seen a little In-Training named Makoto around here? She's very playful, but a little mischievous too - and I think she's been playing pranks on others in the village, though no one knows where she ran off to..." Sighing briefly, the Elecmon would glance around for a second - as though he hoped to spot this runaway Makoto - before mentioning "She's uh, a Jinglmon - If you've not heard of one, they're about the size and shape of a Gigimon? But they're yellow and red, and..."... Before the Elecmon could continue describing this Jinglmon, though... A flash of blue would shoot out from the boughs of a toy-bearing tree above them, before settling under Joker's feet; a ring of blue flames forming just beneath him..! If he wasn't fast enough to move out of the ring of flames, he'd proceed to drop down into what quickly turned out into be a portal; the other end of the portal dropping him into a nearby kiddy pool with a splash..! The Elecmon would blink, before glancing up at the boughs - and calling "Makoto!" in a scolding tone. Whether or not Joker ended up falling into this portal, the duo would be able to glance up as well... ... To see a little Jinglmon, perched on one of the branches! Presumably the Makoto that the Elecmon had been looking for, Makoto would be letting out muffled giggling from behind the bell she carried in her mouth; the bell itself jingling all the while, as her stubby little tail swished side to side in a playful fashion.

As expected, the caretakers had their reservations about letting a creepy-looking clown who openly referred to himself as a ‘Demon King’ freely wander around in their nursery garden. On the other hand, they seemed to have more pressing things to worry about, such as when a rather stressed out Elecmon frantically asked them if they had seen an In-Training Digimon who went by the name Makoto. “We just got here, how the hell are we supposed to know?! Isn’t it your JOB to make sure no babies ran off in the first place?!” Yuko angrily replied. Jokermon, however, seemed more interested after being told of Makoto’s species. “Wait, did you say a Jinglmon? Of course I know what they look like! Tell me, my good rodent friend, how long has this ‘Makoto’ been here?”
Before the Clown Prince could get an answer, he was sucked into a magical portal created by this so-called Makoto, and soon landed into a kiddy pool nearby, soaking his garish suit in the process. The jester immediately teleported out of the pool, using basic magic to dry himself. “Argh! Look what you’ve done! Is this a way to greet your King who traveled all the way here looking for you?” He ranted, shooting an annoyed glare towards the tree branch where the noisy Jinglmon was perched on. Staring up at that little lizard-puppy-circus-clown-thing, Yuko blinked curiously. “Arlecchi-chan… is that you?”

Whether or not this Jinglmon was indeed the Arlecchimon that the two were looking for, it was safe to say that she seemed to be of the same line that Arlecchimon was from. The Elecmon would glance between Yuko and Joker briefly, before sighing a bit. "I apologize for her; she's still quite young. Reached In-Training quite recently, in fact! So she's been having a ball trying out her new abilities on everything; and we're still in the stage of teaching her what's okay and not okay, as a result..." The Elecmon would apologize, before moving to the tree, opening his arms wide as though to catch her, if she were to hop down. "Now Makoto; we can't be dropping visitors in the kiddy pool, that isn't nice! Come down from up there, before you get yourself hurt!"
Makoto would peer down to the Elecmon at first, tilting her head briefly, before glancing over at Joker; giggling once more, at the Clown Prince's reactions. With a wiggle of one of her stubby legs, another portal would form beneath her, whereas her tail would flick the second portal to over Yuko's head; allowing the Jinglmon to transport herself atop Yuko's head, where she'd plop down and nestle herself between the 'horns' her hair was shaped into! The weight and sensation was comparable to that as though a little rubbery beanbag was dropped on Yuko's head.
The Elecmon blinked as he realized where she ended up to, before sighing; scratching the back of his head. "Well, at least you two didn't run into her while she was still Fresh. She had a bad teething problem; and legs tended to be her favorite things to teeth on." He'd muse with a chuckle; gesturing to his own shins, which had padding with visible chew marks attached to them. "I don't know if she's the Arlecchi-chan you two are looking for; though we do believe that she's a reborn digimon. No parents to speak for her, as far as we could find; though she hasn't shown any indication of remembering anything from the past, yet." He'd explain.

The Elecmon explained that this Jinglmon had only recently evolved and that she probably was a reborn Digimon, since no parents had turned up yet. More importantly, it seemed that she didn’t remember anything from her past life. “So, she doesn’t remember anything? Is that normal? Ow!” Yuko asked, letting out a curt cry as the bouncy little creature playfully landed on top of her head. It didn’t weigh much, so the human girl didn’t feel much discomfort, but it was still surprising. “Some memory loss is pretty normal as far as reincarnations go.” Jokah began to explain, approaching them with a funny strut. “You can’t reconstruct a Digimon’s data and expect it to be identical to how it was before. Just like it’ll take her time to reach Mega level again, it will also take her time to get all of her memories back.”
The young Tamer looked at her partner with a troubled look, before carefully and gently pulling the Jinglmon off her head, holding out the infant Digimon in front of her. “Do you remember me, Makoto?” She asked, before flipping her over, so that she was facing Jokermon. “Do you remember Jokah?” The flamboyant jester in turn waved at Makoto, a wide smile plastered on his somewhat creepy countenance.

The Elecmon would nod briefly; confirming Jokah's explanation on reincarnations. "Some digimon might remember immediately, some digimon might take some time to start recalling their past, and then other digimon still might never remember at all. It's simply how it is, and it's the luck of the draw sometimes." He'd add; glancing up to Makoto.
The Jinglmon in question didn't fight at being picked up; letting her little legs briefly wiggle in the air, as she glanced to Yuko, then to Joker, as the delinquent questioned her about them. Makoto would tilt her head to one side, and then the other, squinting her eyes almost thoughtfully... Before she'd speak up..! "Mpph, mmphhh!" ... Or, at least, try to. She couldn't really say anything past the bell - her attempts to speak coming out muffled.
"You know people can't understand you, if you try to talk around your bell, Makoto; why don't you let me hang onto it a second for you?" Elecmon would offer; coming up to try and take the bell - although Makoto seemed to refuse to let go of the bell, letting out a "Mm-mm!" of denial as she shook her head no; the bell jingling with the motion.
She was quite the difficult little In-Training, wasn't she? Elecmon could only let out a soft sigh; the sort of fond sigh that only a caretaker who couldn't even bring himself to be stern could do. "If you let me hang onto your bell for a bit, then you'll be able to munch on a cookie," He'd attempt to coax Makoto - pulling out what looked like a baggie of small sugar cookies; which he'd pull out one.
This seemed to get Makoto's attention - her eyes lighting up brightly! Though, perhaps it got her attention little too much; as in her excitement... She'd proceed to spit the bell like a miniature cannon, at Elecmon's forehead! "Cookie please!" She'd call excitedly; her tail wagging all the while. Well, at least she had manners down..!
The Elecmon would rub his forehead a bit as he bent down to pick up the bell, chuckling all the while; before giving the Jinglmon her promised cookie; which she'd munch right down, visibly happy. "There you go, Makoto." He'd coo; giving her a headpat, and asking "Now that we can understand you... Do you know if you recognize these two visitors or not?"
Makoto would take a moment to think; glancing between Joker and Makoto for a second time, letting out a low "Hrmmm..." as she did; her brows furrowed. "Mmm... I dunno?" She'd respond; a little unsure. "I don't know her..." She'd point to Yuko with her tail; as she was presently facing Joker. "And I don't think I know the funny man, either, but..." She'd trail off a bit, her focus deepening for a few moments as she tried to find her words; though she noticeably began to frown.
"... He kinda gives me a sorta-sad feeling, when I look at him? Like when Lucy got big, and so she left, and I started missing her lots cause I couldn't play with her anymore - that sort of sad..! But..." She'd pause for a bit to giggle, as she added "He's also funny! And a king, like in the storybooks you read me! And he can move around without walking, like I can! I like him; eehehehehe!" The giggle she'd proceed to make was almost familiar, like a sense of deja vu; her tail wagging once more as she smiled brightly.

Jokermon scoffed loudly when Makoto shot her bell out of her mouth and right at Elecmon’s forehead. “Hah! That’s her alright! No other Jinglmon in the world could display such natural talent for causing humiliation and discomfort!” The self-proclaimed Demon King mused proudly. Yuko lowered Makoto down on the soft, rubbery ground, letting her enjoy her cookie in peace. “You like food, huh? I have some snacks too. Do you want snacks?” She offered, pointing at her own backpack. It felt weird bribing Makoto as if she was a child, when she was in fact much, much older. It was kinda like taking care of one’s senile grandmother who thought she was a little girl again.
However, she did seem to feel a certain familiarity towards Jokah, so not all hope was lost. “Yeah, he’s a funny king, isn’t he?” The delinquent girl replied with a warm smile, kneeling next to the Jinglmon and petting her head gently. The clown’s mouth turned into a straight line. No doubt not being remembered by the friend he loved the most must have hurt him more than he cared to admit. “Ah, no matter. A smart player always has an extra ace up his sleeve…” He muttered to himself, before his body was enveloped in light and shrank down, devolving into his Rookie form.
With a goofy smile on his face, the big-headed, child-sized vampire known as Dracmon walked up to Makoto, putting his hands in front of his masked face facing outwards, revealing the creepy, unblinking eyeballs sticking out of his palms. “You’re in luck, because I like you too. Kihihihihi! Why be sad that Lucy left, when you can play with me now? Do you wanna play? It’ll be so much fun!” Dracmon asked with an impish giggle.

Well, Makoto really was a child, it seemed; given that it appeared as though she started as just any other child in the Digital World. Though the notion of snacks seemed to, indeed, make Makoto perk up excitedly; glancing up to Yuko with wide happy eyes, and her tail wagging. "Yeah! Yeah! I want snacks, please!" She'd try to ask nicely; coming up to Yuko, and placing her front stubby legs on Yuko's leg like an excited, pleading puppy. The petting, too, seemed to be well received; the Jinglmon nearly falling on her back, in her attempt to press her head up into Yuko's hand..! "He really is!" She'd agree with Yuko; visibly enjoying all the attention that she was getting - between Joker's praise, and Yuko's petting.
She wouldn't notice Joker's displeasure - due to being preoccupied with Yuko... Though the light from Joker devolving into Dracmon would draw the little Jinglmon's attention; her glancing back in his way, only to jump a little at Dracmon's creepy appearance! She wasn't necessarily spooked off by him, though; in fact appearing to just be a little startled, and more curious than anything, as she'd slowly approach to look him over.
At the question of a game, though... Makoto nodded excitedly, "Yeah! I wanna play...!" She'd respond; asking "What are we gonna play, Funny King Sir?" with a wag of her tail. It seemed that 'Funny King Sir' was going to be Makoto's name for Joker, until told otherwise..!
Before she could run off to play, however, something would appear to occur to her - as she'd glance back to Elecmon, and run up to him - asking "Can I have my bell back, Uncle?" "Eheh; sure. You two play nice, alright?" He'd respond; handing Makoto's bell back to her - which she would proceed to pop right back in her mouth, where it belonged.
Ready, she'd run back up to Dracmon, nodding happily with an excited "Mphh mphmphh!" all the while.

The colorful-haired hooligan took her backpack off her shoulders, unzipping it and looking for some snacks to share with the food-loving Jinglmon, but it wasn’t long before the puppy-esque Digimon ran up excitedly towards the devolved Dracmon. “Ooooor you can leave me hanging. That’s fine too.” Yuko sighed, but she had no hard feelings in the end. Makoto was like a child after all, hyperactive and devoid of a reliable attention span.
“Hehehe, I did not condone that nickname! You should call me Funny Demon King Sir.” The tiny vampire chuckled as Makoto ran up to him with her favorite bell back in her mouth. “And Yuko, snacks are very unhealthy. You should know better. Throw me some of those tangerines your Mom packed for you.” He added, waving at his own Tamer. “Sure…” The girl pulled three tangerines out of her bag, tossing them at Dracmon.
The little Demon King caught the fruit in the air. “Alright, Mako-chan, this is what you call a circus act. I’m gonna be juggling these, and every time I count up to three, I’ll throw one at you and you’ll bounce it back to me. Got that?” He explained, as he began to juggle the tangerines in the air with the skill of a seasoned circus performer. “Da da dadadada da da CIRCUS! Da da dadadada da da CITRUS! One, two… three!” And he threw the first tangerine at Makoto’s head.

Yuko's sigh would elicit a chuckle out of Elecmon. "She might be very food motivated, though she's just as much play motivated, if not more so." He'd humorously remark; settling down next to her, as he watched Dracmon and Makoto play. "She'll probably be plenty hungry once your friend is done tuckering her out, though,"
And speaking of the two... Makoto would perk up a little at Dracmon's correction of his nickname - though seeing as she couldn't exactly acknowledge him through words, she'd just simply nod in understanding. Okay! Funny Demon King Sir it is...! She couldn't help but tilt her head a little, though, at Dracmon asking for a few tangerines; watching as the little orange fruits would be tossed over to Dracmon. What were they going to do with these tangerines? Were they going to be eating them...?
It seemed that they weren't; instead, they were going to do a... Circus act? Makoto tilted her head briefly as she listened to Dracmon's explanation; wondering what sort of game this was. She seemed to understand what they were supposed to do, though; nodding her head with a "Mmhmm!" through her jingling bell.
And with that, Dracmon was off, juggling the tangerines..! For a moment, Makoto almost forgot that they were even playing a game, instead watching him juggle the fruits with ease, eyes wide and curious. When he'd begin to count to three, though, Makoto would snap to attention; realizing that he was about to throw one to her..! Hunkering down, she'd wiggle a bit in place as she prepared herself to bounce the tangerine back; her backside and tail wiggling like a cat preparing to pounce might.
As the first tangerine came her way, she'd manage to bounce back the tangerine in Dracmon's direction; her eyes lighting up, and tail swishing as she looked to both Dracmon, as well as Yuko and Elecmon - her expression reading 'Did I do it? Did I do good?' Elecmon couldn't help but chuckle in response to this; clapping his hands, which would prompt Makoto to happily bounce in place briefly, before she'd hunker down once more, in preparation for the next tangerine.

Yuko nodded at the caretaker Elecmon’s words, shifting her position so that she was sitting cross-legged on the soft ground with her bag tucked between her legs. “I know, right! I guess Digimon children are just like human children, even if Arlecchi-chan isn’t really a child. I once had to watch this very young girl. She was a good girl and really adorable and all, but she just refused to do anything other than playing around and swimming in the sea.” The pierce-faced teenager explained, as she then turned towards Dracmon and Jinglmon and watched them play with each other.
Makoto successfully bounced the tangerine back at the vampiric Digimon, who kept juggling without breaking his pace. “Great job, Mako-chan! It’s like you were born to do this!” He congratulated her with a wide smile. In the distance, one could hear that even Yuko was clapping. “Keep your eyes sharp. I’m gonna throw it faster next time.” Dracmon warned Makoto, as their little ‘circus act’ continued. “Da da dadadada da da CIRCUS! Da da dadadada da da CITRUS! One, two, three!” True to his warning, he threw the tangerine a bit faster this time.

The Elecmon would glance to Yuko briefly, smiling at her; albeit perhaps a bit somberly. "Though... In a way, Makoto - your Arlecchi-chan - really is a child. The Arlecchi-chan you knew might've lived for many, many years... But this isn't the same Arlecchi-chan." He'd begin, eyes glancing towards Dracmon and Makoto once more.
"This is a new Arlecchi-chan - Makoto - who is starting over from scratch, and hasn't been alive for more than even a fraction of however long her past life was. She's still learning, she's still growing, she's still finding her footing in preparation for - once she's old enough, or finds someone to take her in - that big wide open world, beyond the boundaries of the village." He'd explain, his tone soft and patient. He understood, if the concept of a digimon being reborn was something foreign to the young human - sometimes, even other digimon had their misconceptions on how being reborn worked.
"It's perfectly possible for a reborn digimon to start off more or less identical to where they left off on their past life... But just assuming that Makoto is the exact same person as her last self is a disservice to what she might decide to do with this new life of hers, later on down the line, if she decides she wants to be someone different, or do something different. Even if she does begin to remember the two of you, remembering doesn't mean that she'll be the same, and it doesn't always mean that she'll mature or grow on a mental or emotional level any faster than a non-reborn digimon, either."
"If every reborn digimon wasn't a child, if they could look after themselves just as well as their past lives could... The Village of Beginnings would, probably, be a whole lot different from what it is today. It's good that you want to be here, for a reborn friend; and I'm sure that she'll adore you two, just as you both adore her. But let her be her own 'mon, and let her have her childhood, too."
Makoto, meanwhile, would be absolutely beaming at the praise that she was recieving from Dracmon and Yuko; her tail wagging faster, the tiny bell at the end of it jingling. "Mmph, mphh!" She'd call from behind the bell; what she said still a mystery to all, but she certainly sounded excited! In fact, the little Jinglmon would even be trying to hum along with Dracmon as he began to sing again, as she readied herself for the next tangerine. She seemed to be picking this stuff up rather easily; as though it were second nature, really.
But, she didn't seem to be thinking too hard on it all; instead focusing more on the tangerines that Dracmon was juggling. And when the next tangerine was tossed to her - a little faster than the last once, much like Dracmon warned - Makoto would be ready for this one, bouncing it back! Although... Perhaps she bounced this one back a little hard; the little Jinglmon was getting rather eager and excited!

“Starting over from scratch, huh?” The human girl listened to the Elecmon’s explanatory speech, nodding her head in understanding, even though she didn’t necessarily like the things that she understood. According to this, there was a chance that this ‘Makoto’, even if she regained her past memories, wouldn’t be the same person anymore. The person that Yuko was pretty sure her partner was in love with. “Well, I guess coming back as a different person is better than not coming back at all…” She mused with a somber frown, hugging her knees.
Dracmon and Jinglmon looked happy together at the very least. No thoughts of loss and limbo seemed to disturb their perfectly fun playing session. Mako bounced the next tangerine back at Jokah with such force, it nearly made him lose his footing “Whew, attagirl!” The small devil chuckled and continued his juggling without any accidents, thankfully. “You’re getting used to the song, huh? How about we make this even more challenging? I won’t count to three anymore. You’ll just have to keep up with the tempo to know when I’m gonna throw. Ready? Da da dadadada da da CIRCUS! Da da dadadada da da CITRUS!” And he threw another tangerine at her. Would Makoto be a fast enough learner? The Demon King seemed confident in her at least.

Noting the somber frown, Elecmon would reach over to pat Yuko's back in a comforting gesture. "She might end up being different; but if her memories of her past life come back to her, it's likely that she'll still remember you both for who you were to her. Don't give up just because you were looking for the old Makoto, sport." He'd reassure and advise the young delinquent, offering a warm smile. "Even if she does end up being someone else completely, you two will still be able to bond with her all the same, I'm sure."
Glancing out to Dracmon and Makoto, he'd add, as an example "Just look at the two of them over there; they're having quite the ball, aren't they? And though she doesn't remember him now, the fact that him being here struck a chord in her is a good sign. All will be well; just take it all one step at a time."
Makoto's tail continued to wag, as Dracmon continued to praise her; and she couldn't help but laugh alongside him, briefly hopping in place as she prepared for the next tangerine. However, it seemed that this time around, Dracmon was going to make things a little tougher for her! Makoto was confident in her ability to keep up, though; and so she would nod in response, readying herself for what was to come.
Much like before, when Dracmon began singing, Makoto would be humming along; her tail swishing in time to the Clown Prince's song. She could do this! She'll ace this, and make them proud, she was confident; enjoying the praise she was getting from being able to bounce these fruit back. However, it seemed that she'd slip up slightly this time; as the tangerine was thrown in her direction, she'd indeed be able to bounce it off her head... Though, the tangerine would end up being bounced off to the side instead!
Makoto would scurry off in an attempt to recover and catch the tangerine, though it seemed as though she wouldn't be able to make it! At least... Until the tangerine would begin to float, in mid-air...? Makoto paused in her scurrying; giving the tangerine a rather bewildered look, as she wasn't quite sure why it was floating, at first. She'd take a few steps back, and the tangerine would float with her; and it was about then that it clicked for her: she was making the tangerine float, herself!
The Elecmon seemed to take interest in this; him tilting his head, and then laughing "Well, that's new!" He'd remark; pleasantly surprised.
Using her telekinesis, Makoto would bring the tangerine back with her to where she was before, and hovering it up above her head. Once situated, she'd let the tangerine drop, and would bounce it to Dracmon proper now; her tail wagging, smiling brightly around the bell, as though she didn't have a near-messup a couple minutes ago.

Yuko managed to smile at the Elecmon’s kind words of comfort, nodding in gratitude. “Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. I don’t really know what the old her was like. She was a really old friend of Jokermon’s, and I met her under… less than ideal circumstances. He knows her better than anyone, including herself right now. And I think…” The Tamer’s voice trailed off, as she squinted her eyes at the two Digimon who were happily playing with each other. And then it clicked to her. “I think he’s trying to help her remember, in his own weird way…”
Considering Makoto was quickly getting the hang of this ‘game’, who’s to say the Funny Demon King Sir’s attempt wasn’t bearing fruit? Specifically the kind of fruit that currently floated above Mako’s head, as she had unwittingly reawakened her psychic powers! It might not have been anything near what she was capable of as an Arlecchimon, but it was still impressive enough to make Dracmon lose his focus, the rest of the tangerines comically bouncing against his head before falling on the ground.
“Hey, that’s a neat trick you’ve got there. I’d love to see more of it! Why don’t you juggle this yourself for a while with that special power of yours?” The smiling imp suggested, tossing one of the orange fruit back at the proud little Jinglmon.
