Everything here was new to him.
The sights were different - different from the foggy and snowy mountainside that he called his home.
The sounds were different - the howling winds seemed so much more distant, and his footsteps were not accompanied by the familiar crunch of snow.
The smells were different - he certainly could smell his siblings' scents; but they were not the only scents he'd pick up, whenever he'd sniff the air.
And touch, too, was different - his fur was not ruffled by the chilling winds, cold was not filling his lungs with every breath, the ground beneath him firm and steady...
... Everything here was different, and... Laertes wasn't sure how to feel about it. All of his senses were being assaulted with things that he could never even imagine; the sounds of distant voices, the smells of strangers and new plants and foods and other things he could never identify, the feel of a stone floor underneath his feet that his claws clicked against...
... and even the sight of the great halls of the Sanctum, that he would follow his siblings into.
"Cmon, Lae!" Cassie chirped, bouncing ahead a few short paces. "I'm sure you'll come to love everyone here; they're friendly, and we all treat each other like family, here!"
Laertes wasn't so sure if he'd warm up to so many new people, quite so easily. Already, the fact that everything was so new to his senses had him agitated in a subtle way; his ears tilted back a hair, his tail stiff, his movements calculated and wary. He kept sniffing the air, kept glancing around, trying to make sure he wouldn't be caught off-guard by any strangers that might dwell here...
Crossing the threshold to leave his home - his parents' territory - was hard enough. To leave the mountains, was hard enough. But this... This was starting to get, perhaps, a little much...
... Though a squeeze to one of his hands would jolt him from his thoughts, as he glanced to his right. Ophelia. His sister. They could easily read each other - he could tell that his antsiness had her similarly antsy, but... She wasn't wary in the same way, that he was. No, she was more concerned for him, likely due to his own demeanor.
"Breathe, dude." Ophelia would murmur to him; her tail briefly flicking. "Just watch how we react, alright? You'll know if something's wrong if you watch us." Leaning in, Ophelia would briefly bunt her cheek against his shoulder - the shared scents and close contact making him relax just a hair.
That's right... This might be new territory for Laertes, in so many ways, but... They were familiar, with this area. They knew what to do, how to act. If he just...
If he just followed their lead, it'd be okay.
Though Laertes did not respond verbally, he'd briefly bunt against the top of Ophelia's head with a soft hum - "Hmm..." - and nodded to her in understanding. Straightening back up, he'd then roughly exhale with a breath he didn't know that he was holding, as some of the tension - not all, but some - leaked out of his body language. Seeing this, Ophelia would, similarly, begin to relax as well as she saw her brother calm down; a brief hint of relief crossing her features.
He just had to put up with introductions, and... Then they could hide out in Ophelia's den, for a bit, while he acclimated. That sounded nice...

"Are you heading to the castle?" Jill asked her elder brother who's currently walking with a clipped notes on a pad. Looks like a bunch of check ups today. Haku flipped the papers over and over again, making sure that he didn't miss anything while walking from the inner sanctum.
"That I do, yeah, why?"
"Hmm, I'm honestly a bit busy today, so I can't really ask Father if he got something that he want me to do... I mean, not in my capacity as the secretary, but as me personally..."
"Oh right you have to report and all that huh?"
"Yeah, oh, watch out."
Jill opened the door for her brother who smiled and gave her a thumb up. "I'll ask him. Then again I thought he can ask you through the D-Nexus?"
"You know how he is. He prefer to talk face to face if he can help it with his kids and I'm usually going to report at this time... But today's work just too much for me, so I'm thinking of maybe just ask you or someone else who's going that way..."
"I think he wouldn't mind if you personally say that you're busy through D-Nexus..--hm? This is a new smell," Haku muttered as he reached the main building. "Oh, I sensed Ophi and Cassie. Two of them has yet to done their monthly checkup, so I guess this is a perfect time!"
"...Always taking chances huh..."
Jill was the first one to be visible, "Welcome back you two--and I guess this is the brother that you spoke of?" she asked. "...Didn't see a lot of Strabimon with tail, then again I guess I'm similar on that regard," Jill lifted her tail a bit. "How do you do? My name's Jill."
"Hey Ophi, Hey Cassie! Got a bit time for monthly checkup? I brought the capsule facility, so we can do the checkup right here and now if you're not in mood to go to my clinic and all that!" Haku told the two. "Oh and hello! I'm Haku, you can treat me as something like Ophi's brother-in-law? Ahaha~ Handshake?"

Post by Kenny O'Hara and Skadi on Jan 27, 2020 9:03:49 GMT
By now, Kenny and Skadi were pretty much used to having a second home in KIZNA, what with their own rooms within the Sanctuarium Unionis and all. It was a small step for Kenny's growth to become fully independent, working with Skadi to maintain his room. And thanks to the recent upgrade to his Digi-Port, he and Skadi could now simply crash back at their room at any time. And God, was that ever convenient, especially when either those 2 just needed to rest their legs.
And on a particularly calm day like this, they could just chill out, maybe play some video games or get some mundane stuff out of the way. The time dilation that the Digital World provided was a massive blessing for a man trying to practically micromanage everything in his own life. No wonder someone like Ryouta got ridiculously strong. Maybe someday, some of it would rub off onto the young man.
As they were relaxing in their room today, though, they could hear faint steps and noises coming from the outside. While he was usually one to chide Skadi to act on his curiosity, Kenny was up and at it first, walking up and opening the door, much to Skadi's confusion, "Hey Kenny, what's wrong?" She asked him as she tilted her head.
"Nothing's wrong, Skadi. There's just, somebody's outside." He reassured her, "Might as well say hi to them while we're here, maybe have a little chat with them. You coming?"
The Valaismon just gave a small shrug, "Eh, why not? Better than just sitting around doing nothing all day." She yawned as she jumped off the bed to follow Kenny outside of their room, and into the halls of the Sanctuarium Unionis, following the source of the noise in question.
A few moments later, the two would be greeted by a few faces, the two familiar ones in the form of Ophelia and Cassie, two of their best friends and trusted teammates of KIZNA, along with a familiar looking Strabimon and Gaomon. Smiling broadly, Kenny gave them a wave and cried out "Hey! Ophi, Cassie, nice to see you girls again!" Skadi happily waved as well. She loved to hang out with those two girls, and Kenny knew it. "And hey, Jill, Haku, how you guys doing!"
But one face did look a little unfamiliar, taking the form of another, nervous looking, Strabimon, to which Ophelia was gently guiding along the halls. Was this the 'Lae' that both Ophelia and Cassie had rattled on about back in that talk with the DATS agents the other week? An interested smile formed on Skadi's face, "Hey Ophi, is that your brother over there? He looks nice!" She seemed generally keen on giving Lae a warm welcome, as did Kenny himself. After all, any friend of KIZNA were a friend of Kenny and Skadi.

When other people were starting to come near, Laertes knew it almost immediately. He could hear their footsteps, he could sense their signals... His ears pricked up almost immediately in alert, and his hackles rose the slightest bit; the Strabimon was alarmed and wary, unsure of whether he was prepared to deal with whatever strangers were coming their way. Were they friend? Foe? Should he be on guard? His gut instincts were telling him to be wary, but...
... Another squeeze of Ophelia's hand would remind him that he wasn't alone, that... That he had them to go off of, if he wasn't sure how to approach this. The reminder would make him relax, even as the other four - two canid digimon, a human, and a sheeplike digimon - all came into view; briefly running a hand over the back of his neck, to get the fur of his hackles to flatten once more.
Cassie, seeing them all, would raise a flipper in a wide wave; chirping "Hiiii guys...!"
Jill, being the first one to speak and come into view, would also be the one to first catch Laertes' eye; especially given that she was another Strabimon, like himself. Quietly, he couldn't help but look her over briefly - noting the differences in their appearances, as well as trying to gauge how strong she was. Even if these people were friends, he felt almost obligated to know just what they could pose; if only for his own peace of mind.
Almost belatedly - and after a brief and subtle elbow jab from Ophelia - he'd realize that the other Strabimon was speaking to him; introducing herself to him. Jill... Quietly mulling her name over in his head, he'd slowly nod; taking a second to carefully gauge his response before he'd speak up. "Laertes." Brief, simple; it'd, hopefully, be all she'd need to know of him.
Ophelia would be the next to speak up, though; grinning a bit lopsidedly as she scratched the back of her head. "He's a bit of a quiet guy, so pardon if you can't get much outta him." She'd explain, before glancing over to Haku at the mention of a checkup. "Sure, why not." She'd respond with a casual shrug, moving over towards the others.
Laertes, almost, wanted to keep holding Ophelia's hand - it had been rather grounding for him. Though, he also was wary about approaching too closely; giving the foursome a respectable amount of personal space, as he eyed them.
Even at Haku's offer of a handshake, and the claim that he was basically Ophelia's 'brother-in-law' (whatever that meant,) the Strabimon would blink a bit - taking a step back in visible wariness - before he'd slowly, carefully, attempt to return the handshake. This... This was how you did it, right?
Then, there was Skadi and Kenny. Cassie would giggle and approach Kenny; chirping "It's good to see you guys, too! How've you both been?" with a cheery hue. Just as Skadi and Kenny both enjoyed the sisters' company, the two of them enjoyed Skadi's and Kenny's company as well..!
In fact, Ophelia wouldn't be afraid to rough house just a little; wrapping an arm around Skadi's neck, and giving her a brief playful noogie. "Aaaay, Skadi; ya better have not been making trouble, while we were gone!" She'd tease with a wide grin; her tail swishing and swaying as a playful or friendly cat's might. Once finished giving Skadi a noogie, she'd let go, then respond to the Valaismon's question. "Yeah, that's Laertes over there; our brother. Don't mind him if he's a bit quiet right now, he's probably still adjusting to Ys."
"This is the furthest he's ever been from home," Cassie added with a nod of confirmation.
Laertes, frankly, wasn't sure what to make of being called 'nice', at just a glance. Especially considering how tense his nerves felt, ready to snap at the slightest sign of danger. Ears twitching and flicking backwards, he'd glance aside; avoiding eye contact with any of them, but still remaining alert of his surroundings.

"What is it?" Jill asked. Her tone does not sound sharp the slightest, or hostile even, merely inquisitive. She lifted some of her bangs from over her covered right eye. "Does something of me caught your attention?"
"That almost sounded like what a heroine would say to someone who looked at her too long," Haku joked. "My lil sis is single, mate. If you want to court her go on ahead--ow! Hey, I'm just stating fact~"
"Hmph."
It looks like previously Jill poked Haku's rib with her (sheathed) knife. She quickly put the knife back to under her coat. There's a faint blush under her fur.
"Don't worry about the quietness. I don't generally poke into other's business unless I feel it's necessary. I myself just a secretary anyway, not someone of field post."
"She's actually kind of like Ophi's senior officer though," Haku joked as he rolled the capsule facility and operates it so it becomes an emergency check up room. Perhaps this Lae-guy isn't familiar with handshakes? "The secretary might be under admins in power, but she's pretty much like the mayor."
"That's one word too far," Jill scolded. "Pardon my brother, he's really talkative. I guess that's what he got for being a... therapist... Anyway, you looks a bit distressed. Would you like to take a bit sniff of this?" Jill offered what looked like a necklace. "I don't know how good your smelling is, so try to twist it to the left slowly. It's tailored for beast Digimons like us, but caution never hurt."
At any rate... "Ophi, you're stable, but there's a sign that your stamina is dropping, probably because the cold. Might want to wear something a bit more warm while training outside yeah? The weather is getting colder, and spring is still quite far away. I suggest something like a thin coat or something. And.. Cassie next?"

Was this an odd bit of timing on pretty much everybody's part here? Jill and Haku had come to provide Ophelia and Cassie with their check ups, and Kenny and Skadi had come around more or less the exact same time. Thankfully, it seemed nobody minded either way, and the tamer smiled as he leaned down to ruffle Cassie's hair in response, "Yeah, we've been good, girl Been busy with a few things ourselves, dealing with Demon Lords and the like. You's two?" He chuckled lightly in response.
God, no wonder Valt fell head over heels for her. It seemed even a clever, powerful warrior couldn't resist the charms of a cute little fluffy creature like Cassie.
Speaking of cute little fluffy creatures, however, before Ophelia could even begin the nooging, a bad fit of the giggles had already hit Skadi the moment that the Spadamon threw her arm around her, only increasing in both tempo and frequency once it actually started, actually managing to force out a giggly cry of "Kenehehehehehehee! Helelelelelelelep meheheheheheeee! Ahahahahahaha!"
Kenny couldn't help but let out a few giggles himself either, watching it all from the sidelines, and just left his partner at Ophelia's mercy with a knowing elbow to her sides. "Aw, come on, Skadi, Ophi hasn't seen you for a while. Don't tell me you wanna disappoint her now!" He joked to her. Was Skadi basically turning into an affectionate head gesture magnet at this point? She seemed to be getting that a lot lately, and she didn't seem to mind all that much, thank God.
By the time Ophelia let go, Skadi was stumbling around a little, fighting to stay up on her feet until Kenny stepped in to straighten her up, giving her plenty of time to rub her head, letting the last of her giggles die out as Ophelia and Cassie explained about Laertes, and what was going on with him right now, just around after Jill did a quick test with her fellow Strabimon.
At this point, it was clear that Laertes was still a little nervous in his surroundings, and Ophelia and Cassie, bless their mammoth fluff-covered hearts, were just helping to get him adjusted to Ys. Both Kenny and Skadi knew it was wise not to startle someone so nervous so both opted to avoid making direct contact with him, at least until he got used to everybody's presence.
Instead, Kenny, and subsequently Skadi, gave a reassuring smile at the nervous Strabimon's direction, "Hey Laertes, you OK, man? Don't worry, you can trust us, there's nothing to worry about here. This place is perfectly safe" He cautioned to the scrawny werewolf. As much as he wanted to pat him on the back to hammer it in, he knew it probably wouldn't be a good idea, lest he possibly lash out.
Skadi, on the other hand, was now searching through the Infini-Store quickly, and pulled out a small pouch of red bean daifuku, holding it out for the Strabimon for him to take, if he so wanted it, "I got you a snack, Lae! You want it?" She beamed to him. She was practically stepping on her non-existent tippy toes at this point, trying to reach up around the Strabimon's level just so she could give him the snack.

It seemed that Laertes' gaze on Jill was noticed; though they seemed to misinterpret his intentions (or, at least, Haku did.) At being questioned, the Strabimon's eyes would instantly snap away; instead staring at the suddenly very interesting wall, only chancing small side-glances at everyone, just so that he knew what they were doing. The notion of courting Jill didn't help, either; eyes snapping back to Haku, with a certain bewildered - and perhaps wary - look to his expression.
"Why would I-" He'd stop himself, when he realized that he was blurting something out unbidden. As he fell quiet for a moment, his ears would flick backwards in a nervous fashion; his tail stiffening as well. His anxiety was visibly building, and yet he quickly came to the conclusion that he couldn't leave his question unfinished, though - as much as he had wanted to stop himself from asking it. So, he'd take in a deep breath, muttering "... Why would I even court someone I only just met..?" as he'd glance aside once more; seeming quite keen on avoiding eye contact.
Meanwhile, Cassie would giggle softly as she pressed her head up into Kenny's hand; clearly enjoying the contact. "Mhmm!" She'd confirm with a hum; though wouldn't elaborate much further. Ophelia probably already had talked everyone's ears off, about the last run-in the two of them had with the recent Demon Lord events; she didn't see much need to add onto the rambles. "Things have been busy lately, for all of us, I think; hehe..!" She'd instead comment with a chirp; trying to balance against Kenny - one of her flippers braced against his shoulder, while he was still leaned down - to try and ruffle his hair right back with the opposite flipper..!
"No mercy for the sheep!" Ophelia declared with a cheeky and playful grin, meanwhile, as she'd give Skadi her noogie; tail swishing playfully like a pleased feline all the whilst. Teasing and poking fun with Skadi was always great; on top of the sibling-esque roughhousing and other antics they sometimes got up to.
Once Skadi was released, though, the Spadamon was quick to help steady Skadi as well; gently placing her hands on the Valaismon's shoulders. "Eaaaasy there, don't be taking a tumble on us!" She'd joke with a soft laugh; grinning lightly.
It would be around then, though, that Jill would comment on Laertes' anxiety. Distress definitely summed up how he felt; in this new and strange place, with people that he barely knew all around... As she offered him what looked to be a necklace, Laertes would blink a bit and step back - eyeballing the object in question. Slowly, warily - almost as though on guard for a potential trap - he'd take it, carefully rolling it between his hands as he examined the necklace. It had a scent to it that he couldn't quite put his finger on - Jill's scent was all over it, for sure, but... There was another scent, that he couldn't quite identify. "What... is this?"
He'd at first glance to Cassie and Ophelia - the latter of whom had since gone over to Haku, to recieve her check-up. As his eyes met with his sisters, the two would offer him a reassuring nod, which seemed to make him relax a bit; his shoulders losing some of their tension. As per the other Strabimon's instructions, he'd slowly and carefully twist what looked almost like a pendant, on the necklace; wondering what to expect.
Haku's comment on Ophelia's stamina, though, would make the Spadamon's eyebrows furrow a little. "I... Can't help but doubt it's the cold that did it." Ophelia remarked. She's dealt with worse cold plenty, after all; the weather up in the mountains tending to be colder and more unpredictable than in these lower altitudes. And she was born and raised in those conditions plenty! "You sure it ain't because we just walked down from the Terabyte Mountains, in bringing Laertes over here?"
Finally, there was Kenny and Skadi, who both were trying to befriend and reassure Laertes. As much as their sentiments could be appreciated, Laertes was one for instincts in unfamiliar environments; and in a strange place, surrounded by strange people? His instincts screamed at him to be wary, to be on guard. Even when Skadi came to offer him some daifuku - having to come close, with their notable height differences - he'd be unable to help his hackles rising, and his lips curling just the tiniest bit, as he took a step back.
Thankfully, Ophelia was quick to step in now - the lioness placing a hand Laertes' shoulder. His gaze would snap to her, the starts of a growl rumbling in his chest, but... Seeing that it was only his sister, that seemed to be enough for the anxious Strabimon to deflate a bit; his fur once more flattening down, as he reminded himself to take in a deep breath. It was okay; she wasn't freaking out, so... It'd be okay.
Slowly and carefully, Laertes would turn his attention back to Skadi, and accept the snack - eyeing the pouch a bit. This was different, too; he was used to typically eating whatever meats and root vegetables they could scrounge up. Slowly, carefully, he would open the pouch - and almost immediately noted the sweet smell, that would come off from it. "... Thank you," He'd murmur - carefully taking the Daifuku out of the packaging, and taking a bite out of it.
Indeed, it was sweet - like how it smelled - and Laertes was a bit surprised at the red bean filling it had, though seemed to otherwise like it. His ears perked up a hair, and his tailtip begin to swish the slightest bit; the signs of contentment seeming to leak through his anxious exterior. This seemed to make the sisters both relax as well, the two of them being equally happy to see their brother settling down some.

"No, don't take his words seriously," Jill answered, massaging her temple. "It's true that I'm looking for a mate, but I'm not that desperate Homeostasis dammit. He's just poking fun at me!"
Haku meanwhile just giggled. "Issok, issok, I'm just joking. Well, the part of looking for mate is real though, as she said, so if you--"
"Haku, more than that I swear I'll test your fighting skill."
"Awwww..." still, he seem to not mind that the slightest.
What's that? She guess that the item itself isn't quite obvious? "It's a perfume, basically something that we can use to mask our scent. I think you'll find the perfume far more relaxing... that is if you come from the mountains," Jill answered. "The smell of the tree, the snow, the flowers that only blooms in snowy days... you probably can smell it there. It's my favorite scent, although not the one where I'm born in."
Haku meanwhile just smiled. "I sure hope it's just that, but even so, don't forget that before the north was under effect of Belphemon's power... so I wonder if there is any residue so to say... Or if there is some problem about your fight with Lucemon from before... But if it's just a fatigue level, then all I can say is please rest a lot and eat a lot of nutritious food. Here," Haku handed her a meal plan ticket for a week. "Try ordering these on restaurants in Ys. I know some of these might not be your favorite, and you might dislike some, but it's important that you stays healthy."
Then he looked at Cassie. "Cass, your tu--"
"Oh you guys already home?" a Vmon walked down the stairs, tilting his head at Cassie and Ophi. It's Valt, although today he's in his XVmon form. The time shows that it's about an hour before he's going to train some of KIZNA cadets.
"...Hm? Ah, so this is Lae, huh. Good to see you. Although I think I best not overload you some..."

It was way too hard to ignore the immense fuzzy feeling developing inside Kenny as he ruffled Cassie's hair - and when he felt his own hair being ruffled back by the yearling. With a smile, he made sure to position and angle himself well to help keep the Gomamon X up, and once both of them were done, Kenny gently pulled her down and back onto the floor. That seal certainly was clever and crafty in her own unique way. Hell, she and Ophelia had practically enough energy to lighten up the mood by themselves, if the Spadamon giving Skadi a noogie was anything to go by.
As Ophelia and Haku conversed about the former's stamina, the mention of Belphmon raised a few eyebrows, at least for Kenny and Skadi, "Uh, yeah, funny you should mention that, Haku," Kenny chuckled lightly as he rubbed the back of his head, "Me and Skadi actually kinda had to deal with him a few months back. At least, indirectly and with Alan and Levi's help. That power seemed to make even the toughest of Perfect-level Digimon become lethargic if you weren't careful. I can't really say the same for Megas though, considering I don't remember spotting one in the flesh during our mission."
Was Laertes a little worried there? Well, who could blame him? Being in a more... unique, friendly environment, compared to the possibly unforgiving wilderness could really screw with someone a little. It took every bit of fibre in Kenny's body to not pat the nervous Strabimon on the back to reassure him, leaving it to Ophelia to comfort him. After all, he and Skadi were technically strangers, and Ophelia was his loved one. Besides, any sudden contact could easily startle him.
All the while, Skadi never let her fluff-covered eyes off the Strabimon, smiling and nodding at him, still keeping herself up and holding the snack out. It wasn't poisoned, dangerous, anything. It was perfectly safe to eat (even if the red bean taste and texture was, admittedly, an acquired taste). She didn't intentionally budge in the slightest as Laetres took the snack, although her legs were starting to wobble a little, and her feet quickly fell back down onto the floor and finally relaxed.
Watching Laertes eat the snack, Kenny bit his lip a little, while Skadi quietly held her breath, both of them hoping that their little olive branch to him worked like a charm. And from what they could tell from Laertes' reaction... it did! Walking a little closer to the Strabimon, but still taking care not to even lay even a mere fingertip onto him, he gave him a friendly wink, "See, I told you you could trust us, man. I'm sorry we made you worry a little bit back there." It was just a mere bad habit of his, apologising for even the tiniest of things that would warrant a slap on the wrist at worst. Skadi nodded as well, giving a kindly look to Laertes.
In a pleasing surprise, Valt had also come over as well from the stairs, and Skadi happily waved to him, crying out "Hi senpai!" Thankfully, with this being a little more impromptu, there was no possible way for Skadi to just make up a bet on the spot, especially when he had a job to do.
Kenny appreciated this little surprise too as he smiled at Valt, "Hey man. Yeah, that's Lae over there. He's a little shy right now. I don't blame him. We're just helping him ease into Ys." He then turned back to the Strabimon in question, "Valt's a great guy, honestly. He's Ophelia and Skadi's mentor, and our friend. And he's really tough and strong and protective, too. We just love to hang around with him from time to time."
"We can tell you the story on how we first met him, if you want!" Skadi offered Laertes, making Kenny chuckle a bit. Had time really passed that much since that faithful day in the Spartan Training Grounds? God, it all just felt so weird and wonderful in hindsight...
Luckily, Kenny liked weird.

Perfume, for... Masking one's scent? Laertes would quietly mull the concept over as he looked the necklace over; wondering if the scent that he couldn't quite place was this supposed perfume. The explanation of the smell within, too - the notion of the smell coming from the mountains, the smell of the trees and snow and flowers... It, honestly, sounded like it'd be a nice smell; even if he was still pondering over the concept of perfume.
And indeed, in slowly twisting the pendant-like portion of the necklace... He'd almost immediately begin to note the scents within; the crisp scent that made him think of a cold wintry day, the softer scents of pine and flowers... In taking in a breath, Laertes would almost forget to exhale; focused on the scents from the necklace. It... It wasn't exactly the smell of home; the smell of home, to him, were the scents of his family. Of being snuggled up in the den, together, in being able to enjoy eachothers' warmth...
... But this, honestly, was close as well. He wasn't able to relax completely, but... The scent did seem to have its own effect on his nerves; if the tension leaking out of his body language said anything.
At the reminder of Belphemon, and the influence the Demon Lord of Sloth had over the mountains... Ophelia would frown briefly; wondering if things were recovering alright yet. "Yeah, I getcha; that lethargy shit really messes with your head..." She'd respond with a brief nod; stretching her arms above her head, and arching her back a little with a slight grunt. "Still pretty sure it's just because we've been trekking for a good damn while; though I hear ya, on the rest and food." Even if Ophelia was prone to pushing herself, and displaying a good deal of tenacity, she at least had getting proper rest and food pat-down.
And speaking of food, she'd eyeball the meal plan ticket that Haku would pass to her; somewhat quizzical, but also curious. She wasn't exactly a picky lioness, even if she didn't have the stomach of Chrome Digizoit that Cassie did; so while some of the meals listed didn't seem particularly interesting or appealing, she wasn't going to turn her nose up at them immediately. "Hm." She'd hum a bit; tilting her head briefly. "... Guess I'll give this a shot, then." She'd eventually decide; putting it into her coinpouch for now.
Then, there was Cassie. As Kenny gently lifted her away and settled her back down on the floor, she'd giggle softly; smiling up to the young man. "Does it feel as nice for you when I ruffle your hair, as it does when you ruffle my head?" She'd question curiously; tilting her head a bit.
Before she could come over to Haku for her own checkup, though... She'd perk up, at a familiar voice..! Seeing a certain tall XV-mon strolling in down the stairs, Cassie's eyes lit up - and she'd almost immediately be coming up to Valt, with one of her exuberant hugs readied..! "V~!"
More likely than not, Valt likely would be able to handle Cassie's hug with ease - between him being quite physically strong, as well as being champion stage. Nonetheless, the little Gomamon-X would wrap her flippers around him the best she could; nuzzling against his torso, tail wagging. She was quite happy, to see her mate-to-be; and seemed to, for that moment, completely forget that she was supposed to be getting a check-up from Haku! "How're you doing, V? Getting ready for training, later?" She'd question the dragon; gazing up to him with a wide and cheerful smile.
Laertes, too, would be quite focused on Valt - though... Perhaps for a different reason. Indeed, more people meant that the nervous Strabimon was more likely to be overloaded, but... On top of that, Valt was a Champion. Certainly a larger digimon, and a tougher one, as well; even the daifuku and perfume seemed to not do much to calm him, in the presence of what his instincts wanted to read as a potential threat.
The way his fur would begin to stand on end was noticeable, and his ears began to tilt backwards; though he suppressed the urge to growl or bare his fangs at the other. He could see that Cassie was friendly with the new stranger - and though he didn't exactly feel comfortable completely relaxing, he did not want to put off any threats of his own, either. And, on top of it...
... There was something about the XVmon's scent, that was familiar. Upon realizing this, Laertes' ears would twitch forward a bit - no longer tilted back - though his hackles remained raised. This... was the scent that Cassie had been carrying on her fur, wasn't it? Kenny's mention of the other XVmon's name as well - Valt - would catch his attention, though he wouldn't respond to their offer for a story.
Instead... Laertes would slowly, carefully - almost as though he were expecting Valt to lash out at any moment - approach him, slowly sniffing the air. "... Are you Cassie's mate?" He'd eventually speak; glancing up to the XVmon a bit more evenly. Though his body language still read as wary and tense, his tone was even and steady.
Ophelia, meanwhile, wasn't about to let Kenny or Skadi be left hanging; and so would sit with them, as she watched her brother. "Maybe he'll be interested in the story, once he settles down a bit." She'd comment to the duo; smiling a bit lopsidedly.

"If that's the case then that's fine... I was just wondering because I don't see any difference in your pulse and all, so I thought you might be used to it..." Haku admitted. "Eh well, if that's all then that's good, but if you feel any discomfort, I have to ask you to please tell me, alright?" Haku asked.
Jill meanwhile wondered if that scent was to the liking of the other Strabimon or not. However, she suddenly got contacted. She answered her D-Nexus. "Yes, Jill here... Father? I was actually going to... yes? Right, alright, sounds good. Is it urgent? Two more hours or so? Alright, got it."
She then turned to the others. "Sorry to impose, but do you mind to go to inner sanctum in like two hours? Father is going to come here to talk with all of us about something apparently. I'm guessing something about the system update we have been doing recently..."
And well, there's the heartwarming scene! Had Valt not lifted her, she would probably jumped at him herself, he thought. He did exactly that, and just lifted her, scratching behind her ears lovingly. "And here is my dear seal~ I'm doing fine, just about to go training the cadets, yeah. I heard Hikaru is going to make an academy or sort though, so I'll probably going to be less busy... Well, being drill sergeant is indeed tiring though!"
Whoa, talk about aggressive welcoming though. Somehow part of him wondered if Lae is secretly not only nervous around new people, but also a protective brother?
"Yeah I'm her mate.I have been lucky to be accepted by her as her mate. She's an amazing 'mon, balancing me when I'm being too strict, cheering me when I'm down... she's very resourceful too," Valt answered. Honestly he's not sure what he's doing, but he guess there's some...nervousness that he feels at the moment

"Yeah, I don't blame ya, Ophi." Kenny noted, "That can easily take the wind out of you, especially when a really bad cold snap just shows up to screw with you. That's never fun." This was just one of the many, many moments Kenny wished he was psychic; truth be told, he wasn't exactly aware of what what Ophelia and Cassie had been through recently. Seems like even the toughest of fighters could wear themselves out from time to time.
As for Cassie, well, that seal didn't even need to lift a single flipper to keep Kenny smiling, much less ruffle his own hair. He nodded happily with a light chuckle, "Heh, yep. It just feels so... oddly calming for me, honestly." Did that seal have some sort of powerful, bordering on godlike, magic touch within her and she was just refusing to tell anyone about it until literally the last minute?
Fixing himself up, his and Skadi's attention was quickly drawn over to Jill, asking them to come with them to the Inner Sanctum later for something important. As she spoke, Kenny pulled out his D-Nexus to give it a brief check, "Yeah, I think that might be it," He said, glancing at Jill a little, "After all, Yuuki-san did recently post this message on Tamernet telling us about the recent upgrades and the fancy new D-Nexus replacement to come with it."
Having been on the receiving end of Cassie's way-too-strong tackle hugs quite a few times, Kenny and Skadi were clearly expecting Valt to at least be knocked around a little bit. Not so in his case; but neither did mind. Skadi felt a little warm in the stomach, and even Kenny couldn't help but let out a little chuckle at that. What Valt had to say about Cassie was... well, pretty much spot on.
But then again, who could blame Laertes for being nervous? To an outsider, Valt looked extremely intimidating, looking as if he could snap even the strongest Digimon's spine in two like a rotten twig. Kenny just nodded a little, "Yeah, I understand. Sorry about that; Ophi, I just don't wanna overwhelm him by mistake." He told her as he lightly stroked her hair.
Skadi, however, slowly walked over to the three other Digimon as Valt waxed lyrical about Cassie, keeping a decent distance from Laetres to avoid scaring him by mistake. When the XVmon finished his talk, Skadi turned to the Strabimon, "See, Lae? Valt-senpai's a great guy. He's not going to hurt you." She reassured him with a smile. She had to save the hugs and the pats for later, when he got used to it.
As for Valt? Well, his nervousness hadn't escaped her attention, as Skadi glanced up at him, "Hey senpai, are you OK?" She said, a look of concern coming onto her face.

"Gotcha, Doc." Ophelia agreed with a chuckle; smiling in Haku's direction, and flashing him a thumbs up. "I'll come to ya if anything's wrong; though I think that I'm pretty fine right now, unless I develop any severe cases of spontaneous combustion." She'd add in light joking, tail swishing briefly.
The mention of them going to the inner sanctum in a couple hours, though, would make Ophelia a bit curious. "Huhm; alright!" She'd respond with a hint of musing; wondering if that would be a good chance for Laertes to get a break from socialization, hiding out in their room for however long the talk goes. Given that it pretty much smelled identical to home, she hoped that it'd be enough for him to settle down a bit...
As Cassie was scratched behind the ears, though, her tail would wag as a corgi's might, smiling brightly. "Maybe I'll come join you, until it's time to go to the inner sanctum?" Cassie would suggest, as Valt confirmed that he was going to go training. After a moment, though, she'd quickly clarify "Once I get my check-up, and make sure that Lae'll be okay with just Ophi, that is..!" Check-ups and brothers were important, after all..!
Though she briefly considered inviting Laertes to come with, the number of cadets that Valt might be training would probably be too much for the poor wolf!
Ophelia would react similarly positively to Kenny's touch; purring softly, as she leaned against his hand. "Mmm... 's okay.." She'd mumble half absentmindedly, her focus being more on Laertes, and making sure that he was doing okay. His body language read as very wary to her - but he seemed to be trying to make himself calm down, in Valt's presence. "We can talk 'bout the story 'nother time...~" She'd murmur to Kenny in suggestion, trailing off in a purr.
Kenny's hands might not be the same as Karin's brush, but he still had a certain magic touch!
As Valt responded to Laertes, the Strabimon would - initially - remain silent. Even after the praises sung for his sister, and Skadi's own attempts to reassure him, Laertes would be quiet for a few moments; seeming to be mulling over the other's words.
Meanwhile, Cassie would be reassuring Valt with a gentle nuzzle and lick of his cheek; murmuring softly "You're amazing, too, V~" with a relaxed smile, before glancing down to Laertes. Once their eyes met, she'd smile brightly to the wolf; adding to her brother. "It's okay, Lae. He's a friend, too, even if he's big right now..!"
Cassie's words seemed to finally get the Strabimon to react; Laertes blinking, as though broken from his thoughts. Slowly, he'd nod in response; glancing back over to Kenny and Ophelia, where the duo were seated. "... You all... Seem rather nice." He'd admit, tension leaking out of him slowly but surely as he made for Kenny and Ophelia, to sit next to his sister - on the opposite side from Kenny.
Ophelia, almost immediately, would pull him into a one-armed hug; purring as she nuzzled him like it was second nature.
The motion would make Laertes jump a bit, but he'd begin to slowly relax; burying his nose against Ophelia's neck, so that he only had to smell the scents of family for the moment. Ophelia purred in response; nuzzling the top of her brother's head; almost acting as a big sister might, in this quiet and protective comfort, even though they were technically the same age.
Lazily opening an eye to gaze over at Jill, Ophelia would speak up; questioning "What all do you know about this system update, anyways, while you're here?"

"Or somehow a disease that changed all your roar to meows," Haku joked. "Glitches like that exist, by the way. As much as I love to joke around with that, glitches like that are part of quirky one, might screw your buffs though."
"Yeeeah, glitches are not fun. Digimon's diseases generally categorized to glitched, ailments, virus... you name it. It's wonky," Valt commented. "Haku specialized in data composition though... So basically he's similar like a doctor for fighter Digimons."
Hmmm, so Cass wanted to join Valt? "Actually, if I'm needed in few hours, I'd rather ask someone else to handle it for me. Considering I'm a key member, I'm pretty sure that my presence is needed. I'm not sure Aniki going to come or not, but that's the matter. I'll probably need to relay the information to him, and probably need to send the item to him personally... so regardless I'll be staying here for a while I think."
Big... well yeah he's big... Valt nuzzled top of Cassie's head. "Having a big mate is great isn't it Cass?" Valt teased. "Should I devolve? I think it's better to relax... let's see..." and soon with a bit of a lightshow, Valt shrunk, but still big enough to carry Cassie up obviously.
Is he alright? "Well, I just want to make a good impression for my mate's family you know? That's all. Don't worry, I'm fine," he answered to Skadi, ruffling her hair.
Jill perked up when questioned though. "Ah, sorry, semi tuning out here, was calculating how many people should I call and how many are available.... anyway to answer that question, the system update happened after the Elysium exploration back then... Apparently something more has awakened in the city, thus the expansion of the city. The system also becomes faster enough to accommodate more machines and facilities alike. But the problem lies in our D-Nexus. The old model is already at its top performance. The server update doesn't affect it, which... in a way, good and bad. Good in a sense it's stable, bad in a sense it cannot benefit further from the server upgrade...
Thus, lately we're designing new D-Nexus. We called it NexT model."
Jill showed the party the design of the Digivice. "Some have reported problems where they have hard time to operate the old model or it slips easily from their grips, so we eventually calibrated all the critics to make the new model of D-Nexus."

There was something that felt so oddly satisfying about petting Ophelia, it was just something Kenny couldn't put his finger on. Was it her purring? Her silky feeling fur? He didn't exactly know, and God, Buddha and Arceus knew he didn't exactly care, either. All he knew was that it just felt just as good for him as it was for the Spadamon herself. After all, she was quite the good kitty.
As for Skadi, she felt her own internal self fighting over whenever to focus on Laertes and his quiet mulling, or Valt and his adorable love for Cassie. Valt's reassuring comments and his subsequent hair ruffling certainly worked on her (if her affectionate bunting against his hand, accompanied by her light, happy bleating told him anything already), "That's good to hear, Valt-senpai." She replied with a smile.
But Laertes? As she watched him mull for a bit, she started to tilt her head a little. She knew nobody here would even think of laying a finger/claw/flipper on him. But as far as she knew, Laertes wasn't psychic. Had he taken a glance at Skadi after Cassie's words of reassurance, he'd see her nodding in agreement. As she watched him blink, she just raised a hand into the air, a little worried, "Lae, is anything wrong?"
Likewise, Kenny, noticing that the Strabimon was now focusing on him and Ophelia, could only sit and watch as he waited for his reaction. Thankfully for the both Kenny and Skadi, Laertes' words were very reassuring, and a smile emerged on both of their faces. As the Strabimon made his way for the seats, Kenny could be seen shuffling a little bit as he moved to give Laetres some room, as Skadi followed him, taking a seat next to her tamer.
With Ophelia dragging her brother into a comforting hug, Kenny started to lean in a little at first; until he felt himself stopping short from the cuddling Digimon, as to not suddenly shock Laetres by mistake. A mental reminder reminding him on how he accidentally frightened Mei the Meicoomon by trying to pet her while wet. He wasn't going to make the same mistake again.
Rather, he just glanced over to the Strabimon and asked, "Hey, Lae, uh... Mind if I... we cuddle you as well, please?" Had he agreed, Kenny would follow in turn, leaning in and snuggling up against Laetres as well to help keep him company, as would Skadi, who would lightly bleat happily and affectionately in turn as she snuggled up against the rest of the group and nuzzled anyone who ended up close-by.
Whenever that happened or not, the duo would listen to Jill explain on why the D-Nexus had to be replaced, including the recent updates, how the old D-Nexus was pretty much at the end of the line, and the new D-Nexus (the aforementioned NexT model) was built to respond to the updates, with some old flaws ironed out to make life a whole lot more easier for the everyday end user. It certainly did look interesting, to be honest.
All the while, a few questions started to brew in Kenny's head. He silently pulled out his old D-Nexus and took a glance; with them sunsetting the old model, what new improvements did they have in store, other than just the admittedly sweet looking, and much more useful, new design? He raised a hand into the air, "Um, excuse me, Jill, I know this kinda sounds like a really dumb question, but can you please tell us some of the other improvements you guys made to the D-Nexus?"
