The last time Nereid had visited the Binary Archipelago was the day she found out that she had grandparents and one of them was a colossal bottom of an Apollomon while another was a Plesiomon that adopted more children than were added to the Royal Family of Ys on a daily basis.
So, yes, this place was pretty highly regarded in the clam’s memories, and was thusly associated with the idea of having fun, the idea of being happy. She signed up for this fun little thingamado on Tamernet, and it apparently got her a match? So she decided that…this would probably be a nice place for a date. Nereid wasn’t necessarily sure how the date would feel about having to spend the day with a clam, but if worse came to worse she could just use Ranamon. Not like that form was strenuous to maintain, right?
Anywho. Where specifically on the beach was Nereid? For one, she was away from people. She was under a gazebo, resting in a pool of water that had a cute little sign that read “If you got this clam in a blind dating app, here she is”. There was also a platter of food right next to her. That she also idly took crunches out of.
How long had Nereid been here? Since daybreak. She was…quite patient, to put it lightly. Would someone come? Or would the clam be stood up? She was hoping it was the former, it’d be pretty awful to just eat this stuff alone. Plus, she wanted to see who it was!

Arakan wasn't certain what otherworldly force compelled her to sign up for this whole blind dating thing, though her best guess was Plotmon. It wasn't like she could interrogate the small pupper to find out, though. Tamernet in general was just.. odd. She barely ever used it to begin with, so she could only imagine what sort of record she was building up for herself by using it exclusively for searching the occasional thing and then this dating stuff. On the bright side, she was certain her vile stepmother wouldn't be too pleased with someone her age dating around. Rebelling against her, even if it was petty like now, never stopped feeling great.
This time she was prepared for the beach, dressing casually for the heat and tying her hair back. For some time she just wandered the beach and watched for if anyone else had shown up, definitely not expecting a clam in a tiny pool of water.. with snacks? Well, at least she wouldn't go hungry. Not that she was feeling particularly snackish right at that moment. The sign made it clear this was who she was looking for, though she wondered if the digimon in the pool was creeped out by the human just sort of staring at them.
Frankly, she wasn't sure how to approach this if it weren't blatantly obvious by that point. This was her first date ever, which once again brought up the question of why the heck she was doing this. Plotmon and teenage rebellion only went so far as excuses. She wouldn't admit her reasons vocally, at least not here, but she was just curious. She hadn't ever felt particularly infatuated towards someone and she was at a point where she wondered if she could feel those sorts of feelings at all. Maybe she was just focusing too hard on herself and work.
"You're.. waiting for me?" She finally asked, motioning somewhat nervously to herself. The fact Nereid was a clam didn't bother her too much. There was certainly weirder things she could be on a blind date with. And she imagined it might be just as weird to be on a blind date with a human girl who was only part-time dog digimon.

Someone came! Somebody actually came! Nereid was barely able to contain the excitement she held within her clamshell of a body. "Mmhmm! Of course I am!" Nereid chirped, happily. It was obvious her date didn't really expect to be confronted with snacks and a clam, but nobody ever really expected a Syakomon to be the orchestrator of anything. Or the person who catered something.
How did she even get all this stuff here? That's a mystery. But, for what it was worth, the clam had no idea how to approach this either. That was fine, though. Everybody had to learn sometime, right? "You can help yourself to the snacks if you want. My name's Nereid, what's yours?" She asked of the redhead, looking her over. "I like your outfit! And your hair! They look really cute!"
That seemed to be meant in sincerity, considering the clam hopped out of her little tub and towards the ground to circle around Arakan. Yes, she was sliding around. It looked strange, did it not? How would the redhead respond?

The Syakomon seemed awfully happy to see her, something Arakan seemed to have a bit of trouble accepting. Something didn't quite feel right, though maybe she was just being a nervous pessimist? Who knows. "Ah.. Really?" Arakan chuckled a bit awkwardly in response to the compliments. She figured the clam was just being nice, it wasn't like she had put any extra work into her outfit today.
The redhead squatted down so she was more to level with the apparently excited clam. "My name is Arakan. Is your name supposed to be like.. after the sea nymphs?" It was a weird question to ask, probably. That knowledge was pretty niche even for humans so she didn't truly expect Nereid to know where her name came from. She didn't think it was strange that the clam could slide around, though she did find it weird that they could hop. She couldn't imagine trying to jump let alone hop without arms and legs to help in the motion.
..The clam was sort of cute though, or at the very least endearing. Kind of like Plotmon without the need for a leash.

Could Nereid be called overeager? Potentially. The Syakomon was, however, nothing short of ecstatic that...someone had even come. Honestly, she was expecting to get stood up and left with all these snacks to eat. Which, honestly speaking, wouldn't be that bad. Nice view plus snacks. It'd be lonely, sure. But it really wouldn't be terrible or anything.
"Yes! ...I was getting hungry waiting and I don't think I could've kept myself from eating all the snacks if you were any longer." Something else that struck Nereid's curiosity was the fact that this girl seemed to know the etymology behind her name.
...Something that Nereid herself didn't know all that well, admittedly. Titania had never explained it, and Mizu...she hadn't actually asked Mizu about this. Not yet. "I think so! You must be pretty smart if you know that. That's neat!"
It was only right, ergo, to return this question in kind. "Where does Arakan come from? The name, I mean. Also, feel free to help yourself to the snacks! I picked them all out myself."

Arakan glanced towards the snacks and tilted her head. She wasn't very hungry herself, but she could feel that inner Plotmon demanding she accept the offer. It was almost like the two forms had their own separate stomachs sometimes, she could've sworn on it. Usually she would be annoyed by this, but she was in a good enough mood that it was actually endearing. Goofy pupper aside, she'd explain her weird niche knowledge of the meaning and origin behind Nereid's name.
"My pool is knowledge is vast but uh... a bit shallow, I'll admit." The redhead chuckled lightly. Really, it was just something she picked up at school one time. "Eh, my name is more commonly a boys' name. Though if you ask me, gender-specific names are kinda pants-on head..-" She stopped herself there before she said something vulgar or too heated for what was honestly a good question. "..Stupid. Though either way, I'm not sure what the meaning is. I'm kinda curious now though."
She wasn't sure what got her so riled up over her name having a masculine origin. It'd be easy to blame Plotmon, but she was certain that little guy cared about the subject about as much as she did. Which was just.. not at all. "Nereid's a super fitting name for you though! Sounds nice and most definitely isn't common."

"Hehe...Pool..." Nereid chuckled at that. Was that intentional or not? She was going to assume that it wasn't. Which...made it even funnier, possibly! "I don't care how shallow it is. The fact you know things like that? I admire it." She stated, quite flatly. She liked her date. She wasn't sure if Arakan was really girlfriend material for HERSELF or anything, but she was, at the very least enjoying herself!
Question is, was the redhead enjoying this too?
No way to tell, since things just kicked off.
"...Yeah, I...um. I didn't know that. But...I also don't really...think anything of it? To me it's your name. Arakan's name. So, it's a name that's yours. Not any gender or anything like that. Does...Does that make sense? If it makes you feel any better, I don't know what it means either!"
A pause.
"...Are you hungry? Is there anything you wanna do? C'mon, tell me!"

Arakan snorted a laugh and shook her head. "Pun not intended, guess I'm.. punnier than I thought. ...No? Too much? Eh, that's fair." She shrugged, still grinning. This date wasn't terrible. In fact, it could've been so much worse. Compared to the very worst scenario this paranoid teenager could conjure up? This was just about ideal. No complaints so far.
"Pft.. Thank you Nereid, I like your mindset." The girl smiled a bit sheepishly, realizing she may have gotten a bit.. overly salty. Yeah, that was a light way of putting it. "What do I wanna do, though?" She hummed thoughtfully, taking her own chin between two fingers and tilting her head. "Not sure. I'm pretty happy talking with you so far. Did you have something in mind?"

The admittedly awful pun only made the clam's snickering become a little louder. Was she having more fun than she should have with just puns alone? Potentially. There did exist a problem, though, in the form of both of the girls not seeming to know what they should do.
Nereid sure didn't, especially since she had never been on a date before. They were at a beach, though...Which did lend a lot in terms of possible things to do. From stupidly mundane stuff to 'hey let's go try scouring the beach for treasure.'
Because that's totally something you can do, right? "Well...I actually...um. I'm not getting any ideas right off the bat. But I do want to learn more about you." This girl had no partner that Nereid could see around her, so the question of who and what she was came to mind a few times already.
"What sort of thing do you do in the Digital World, Arakan?" ...Would she even open up about that? Hm.
