Taking a (Figurative) Swim [Yukiko/V-day]

Oh, Yuki was already well aware of how hard Hisato was trying to make this work! ...it was heavily feeding her social anxiety. The fact that a boy seemed interested in her and not Ayumi, who was a million times prettier, confused her. And her desire to not disappoint him made her nervous! She managed a crooked, nervous smile. "I g-g-g-guess? O-o-one n-n-never stops l-l-learning, he he!" And it seems he was interested in her job, too. It was true! Before she met Mizu and founded the DFC with Ayumi, she wanted to go back to Fukuoka and become a lifeguard. But now, she realized that her -true- passion was with the *animals* of the sea. And Chester having helped her nab an internship at the local aquarium just strengthened that passion. "A-a-a-ah, it;s exciting! You are a-a-always around fascinating sea creatures, you learn their habits, how individual and intelligent they truly are! You realize that they bond with you, that they react to you in their own way! From the smartest dolphin to the smallest reef fish! It's a wonderful job! You get so close to sea life!" She was evidently swooning, her eyes wandering to a nearby tank where river fish were swimming back and forth.

Being actually present did make it inordinately easier to be interested in Yukiko than Ayumi (whoever that was, he'd probably find out later, right?) Even with a crooked smile, he could still find plenty of reason to smile back at this girl.
"Correct. You never stop learning, no matter what."
A universal truth in life.
It seems like Yukiko had a lot to say about being close to sea life, too. They bonded with people too, just like the denizens of the land? That was...actually something interesting. He didn't think of marine life as being the kinds of animals to do that. Heck, he wasn't even sure if they had enough memory to remember people, but...Some were smarter than others, that much was evident from Yukiko's words, wasn't it?
"That's great to hear!" Again, he kept up that smile, while he also noticed the tank with the river fish. "...Hey, let's check over here out." River fish in the digital world...This should be neat. Hisato started for that tank, hopefully leading Yukiko along!

The girl followed, already excited to see this river setup. Seems that had simulated the river current to give the river fish a natural environment. Various kinds of salmon and eels swam against the current, salamander and frogs clung to the plant life...and an Otamamon was lazing on a stone, sheltered from the current by a larger rock outcropping. "E-e-eh? Th-there's a Digimon in there...i-i-is that right? I thought Digimon were, like, people..." Yuki was quite confused. This was the first time she had seen a Digimon in an animal context. No matter how much they *looked* like animals, she had always thought of them as people!

There was indeed something interesting about an aquarium in another world that simulated the conditions for a natural environment for these things to live within. That was part of why Hisato had wanted to check this one out in particular. The other part? Well, seeing his date show such excitement towards the fish was...heartwarming. It felt great knowing he was helping out with this. Helping her have fun.
So, when they got there properly, the dynamic duo (if such was an apt term for them) bore witness to a river's ecosystem. Salmon. Eels. Frogs, salamander, plants. That was all there, that was all that encompassed the river. At least, that's what Hisato initially assumed.
And then he noticed the Otamamon at around the same time as Yukiko. "I...thought the same. Even if they looked like animals they still often had the capability of thinking like people, even beyond them, right...?" So why was this Otamamon lazing around and feeding on stray insects flying around?
Hisato had to actually think for a few moments. Back to something Scarab had told him. Not every Digimon was as warm or friendly as the other, perhaps there were a fair few feral ones in the world. Maybe that was just it...
"...Maybe that one's...not like the ones we usually meet? Uh...I really don't know." ...He sounded dumb, didn't he. CRAP.

If Hisato had sounded dumb, Yukiko didn't mind. She was not one to judge, to her, stupidity was malignant ignorance, not lack of knowledge. She rubbed her chin. "I, uh, I g-g-g-guess? M-m-m-maybe there is a difference between them like there is one between humans and bonobos... I d-d-dunno, though, m-m-m-maybe there's a sign somewhere...?" She looked around the tank for an answer. She was way too nervous and shy to seek out some guide to explain it to her. Besides, looking for information herself before asking for help is what scientists do, after all! ...that's what Ayumi always said, at least.

"That...-is- a possibility. Let's go with that." Hisato nodded. It seemed like he and Yukiko were operating on similar wavelengths here for the moment. But, the taller woman was right. What was an exhibit without a sign to explain what was going on within? "There's got to be one..."
While Hisato was also looking, the dynamic duo of the day would eventually find a plague reading out the details of the exhibit. Namely, that this was intended to simulate a river's environment in a tropical rainforest. ...There was also a bit about Otamamon and how the feral ones seem to prefer jungle environments to less temperate locales. That seemed to be the answer to the question racking the brains of these two studious individuals.
"I...Hey, look here. A sign." ...This was admittedly turning out to be more fun than Hisato had thought. He pointed the sign out to Yukiko while the Otamamon continued to laze around, consuming prey.
Hisato thought for a few moments, but otherwise remained quiet.
