Stacy tossed and turned in her bed trying to sleep. This was getting annoying. She had been at this for hours and she even went to bed relatively early for her. That was at midnight, it was now almost five in the morning. Grunting in frustration, she threw her blanket off and sat up rubbing her eyes. On the desk across from her bed, a bright lite flashed from her laptop causing her to look in that direction. The light from her laptop flashed again and flew out toward her landing on her lap. The light took shape and transformed into a small machine which was blue with flame highlights. Grabbing her blue glasses from her bedside table she placed them on so she could take a better look. She lifted the small machine into her left hand and noticed it reminded her of those little tomagatchi pets when she was a kid but larger. Curiousity piqued, she pressed one of the buttons and a compass came into view. The compass, which was a hologram floating over the device, seemed to swivel in circles as if trying to lock onto a specific direction. Turning left and right, Stacy noticed that the compass needle stopped when it pointed to her bedroom door.
'What the hell I can't sleep anyway.' She thought as she got out of bed and followed the compass. After following it for awhile she noticed it was pointing at her apartment door.
"Looks like it goes outside the apartment." She mumbled quietly as she got ready to leave by putting on white socks, her sneakers and her black leather jacket. She then grabbed a dark blue backpack which still had her epilepsy medication inside it since she decided that was where she would store it since she moved to Japan. After slinging the bag over her shoulder she stepped out the door.
Looking down at the device again, she continued to follow the compass. After being led around for sometime, she arrived at Shibuya Terminal.
"Why would this thing be leading me here of all places?" She wondered as she double checked the direction the compass led her in. Sure enough it was pointing at the terminal. Deciding not to question it too much more considering this gadget came out of her laptop, she entered the terminal station.
Soon she arrived at two areas, one where she assumed everyone boarded and the other was closed off. Moving the device slowly left and right she noticed the compass was leading in the direction of the closed off area. Now confused, Stacy debated with herself briefly before she slipped into the closed off area.
After walking through the dark empty passage for a short while the machine in her left hand started to do something different. It started speaking. After almost dropping the machine in her surprise, she only caught part of the message. Something about boarding a train? At least that's what she thought she heard before she stuffed the device into her left pocket, zipping it closed before she continued onward.
Soon Stacy came upon the train, or rather trains, the machine spoke of. There were several parked there ready to go. Scratching her head as she looked at each train, each kinda weird looking even though they were different colors.
"Great there are multiple trains. If there is a train I'm supposed to board, which one is it?" she growled before she decided to just randomly pick one considering the device in her pocket hadn't made a peep since she put it there. Trotting over to a brown one she hopped inside not knowing when the train would start moving.
Looking around the train, she noticed it was mostly empty and, surprisingly, clean. Plopping down into one of the seats, she brought the device out of her pocket and looked at it. The compass from before was absent so her focus was back on the buttons. Pressing another button definitely got something different, with the result being a golden cross on the screen before another hologram appeared. This one was of a white wolf with a frizzy tail that was curled up in a sleeping position.
"Strange. It looks kind of like a small statue. Sure is cute but what does it mean?" Stacy said as she admired the image. "And why would a cross have appeared before it."
Sure she understood the meaning of a cross but that didn't make this whole thing any less confusing. Resting the device in her lap with her left hand laying lightly on it, she closed her eyes entering a meditative trance instead of sleeping. She strangely still wasn't tired anyway.

Tired, knees weak and arms quite heavy, Had he eaten anything today he could probably have finished up that joke in a very bad display of lack of control. Standing around in the forest near his house hands firmly grasped on his wooden practice sword, he hadn't noticed how long he had been out practicing, desperately trying to get his mind off everything. Sweat poured off him as he struck the air with a violent strike aimed at nothing, like he was mad at no one who was there. With a few more strikes of his blade his arms slowly gave up on him and the blade dropped from his hands. "C'mon sis where are you." he asked the void almost pleading, yet only the night air answered him by moving the trees slightly.
Sighing to himself he picked up his practice sword and stuffed it into his large bag, even though he was mad he was careful while putting it away. With nothing left to do he started to walk back home, hoping this had made him tired enough to fall asleep. However something stopped him in his tracks, a random thought of the train station entered his mind, Shaking his head trying to get rid of this thought he continued but it wouldn't leave his brain.
Sighing to himself looking up at the night sky, he didn't have much to do tomorrow and he doubted he had the ability to sleep. "Train station huh?" that was where his sister went missing, pausing for a few moments he made the decision and walked off in the direction of the train station. Himself having been the only one who hadn't looked there yet.
His walk was uneventful, enjoying the night air was something that gave him comfort. He tugged on his long coat feeling the chill a bit more harshly. Quickened his pace Clayton managed to get there just as a number of people were getting off the station, passing through the crowd of people not knowing exactly where he was going. Normally he'd never follow his gut this much but for some reason he felt like he had to at this point. Looking around for whatever station she might have gone in his eyes locked on the closed off section nearby. Walking up he aimed to hop over and enter that way, something stopped him however, another feeling like he should look at the terminal.
Glancing over he shuffled to the side and looked at it, it needed him to scan something so he tried using his phone but it just got an error message. Annoyed he put his hand back in his pocket but felt something else there, pulling it out instead of his phone was a weird device. Golden with black highlights. Scanning the device resulted in a satisfying click and the gate opened.
Confused he quickly put the device back in his pocket and walked through, several trains were around. He was too tired to notice the faces on the trains and noises that sounded like talking. Trusting his gut once more he walked up to the brown one and got inside looking around the train, hands in his pockets he turned suddenly hitting his bag against metal. To which he thought he heard a cry of pain further up the train, did someone get hurt? Ignoring this he made his way over sitting on the opposite side of the only other human he saw.

Footsteps followed by a metallic clang removed Stacy from the light meditative trance she was in. She thought she heard a cry of pain from further up the train. Maybe she was hearing things or perhaps her inability to sleep was the root of it, who knew? Reestablishing a firm grip on the device in her lap, once again with her left hand, she opened her brown eyes and glanced around the train until she saw a teenage boy sitting just across from her.
'How odd. What is a teenager doing out this early in the morning. Seems a little to early for him to be on his way to school.' Stacy thought as she looked at the boy. 'But then again, who am I to judge. I left my apartment at a little after five.'
Deciding to open up and be communicative she said "Hey kid what are you doing out here. This area is closed off."
'What am I saying. Now that I think about it what am I doing here.' She thought before looking at the small machine in her hand. 'Oh yeah that's what I'm doing here.'

Well this was quite awkward, getting on strange trains wasn't a pastime for Clayton he normally did but there was someone else here with him. His small shy nature came up and he wasn't able to say anything even when he felt eyes on him. Eventually he didn't hafta say anything they spoke first. "Heh, I could ask you the same." they seemed older then Clayton but part of him doubted they worked here. Her tired gaze matched his own, another sleepless traveler.
"I was looking for someone who went missing around here. I dunno just something in my gut said to hop on the train." upfront about his reasoning he closed his eyes rubbing his eyelids in hopes of rubbing away his tiredness. Quickly wondering why trains would be running in am out of order station he remembered how he got through.
"Oh but this thing let me through the gate, so I assume I'm allowed to be here, even if I don't exactly know what this is." mentioning this he held the strange device in the air for her to see, it looked the same as hers did but with a different color and a sword emblem on the screen face down.

'So he was looking for someone but who?' Stacy wondered as he asked why she was there. At least he was respectful. She sure saw some teens in her day that were far from respectful but, then again, she grew up in America where she would see it quite often not only from teens but people of all age groups, even her at times though she wouldn't admit it out loud to anyone.
"So you say you came here looking for someone. Who is it?" She asked as she watched the teen she didn't even know the name of rub his eyes tiredly.
Then he showed her a machine that looked a lot like hers but different in color. He mentioned that that machine allowed him access.
"Hmm. How strange. That's kinda like what happened to me. I wonder what this thing is and why, after I pressed a button, a gold cross appeared on the screen?" Stacy said to the teen wondering if she should mention the holographic image of a white wolf cub she also saw.

Ahh right he should of figured that would've been asked after bringing up a missing person. "Ahh right, it's my older sister, she went missing last year, she was last seen around the train station so..." he trailed off seemingly not wanting to continue how well the search had gone. "Oh sorry how rude of me, my name is Clayton Herron. Nice to meet you." too far away to give a handshake he simply gave a small wave.
But at the mention of a gold cross be looked over at his own, while not having a cross it just had a simple sword on it. Part of him felt nervous about the whole thing but swallowing it be absentmindedly nodded. "Yeah, I have no idea where this came from, I just found it in my pocket. Don't know how it got there."
This whole situation was weird, holding his bag a bit closer to himself he wondered if just having a practice blade would be enough, he didn't feel in danger but this was weird. "So I guess you don't know what this train is about either huh? Never seen a train like this myself."

So the missing person was his sister and she vanished a year ago at this station. It explained his hesitance to continue on the subject. Then he introduced himself as Clayton Herron so she figured it would only be right to introduce herself as well.
"I'm Stacy Miller. Nice to meet ya Clayton." Stacy said as she waved in return. "As for these devices, all I know is that mine came out of my laptop. After that a compass appeared that led me to the station where I picked this train randomly. As for why it came from my laptop I don't know."
Obviously, this whole thing was weird for Clayton as he held his bag closer while she slightly tightened her grip on the device. Yeah, she was getting weirded out too. When he mentioned the train, even though she agreed, calmly said "I wish I knew what was up with this train. I've never seen trains like this even in America."

Happy to drop the subject Clayton focused on the now dubbed Stacy talking about her device coming out of her laptop? Well that blew his story out of the water. "Like out of the screen? Wow, not to be rude but if I didn't find mine randomly in my pocket I might not of believed you." saying that with a short laugh at the absurdity of the situation, two people finding two weird devices and hopping on the same train together while being tired from lack of sleep. Reaching crazy levels of coincidence here.
The observation on the train reminded him of something when he got on. "Oh right, when I got on the train I thought I heard a cry of pain when my bag hit the side, wonder what that was about." it seemed to happen a moment after he did it too, this was getting pretty weird for him but he stood his ground.
"Might be a bit naive of me but while it's weird it's at least exciting ya'know?" maybe because he was still young but the mix of fear and mystery slightly excited the teen.

It would seem that these two similar machines could pop out of more than just laptops. As Clayton laughed, Stacy couldn't help but laugh as well. Who knew that being unable to sleep would lead to, not just her but a young man named Clayton, finding strange devices as well as boarding an unusual train. Come to think of it all of the trains seemed strange, but what were the odds that the two of them would board the same one in a station full of trains.
At the mention of cry of pain she heard earlier she said "I don't know what that pained cry was about . As far as I know we're the only ones on this train."
"As for being naïve, don't worry about, we're all that way sometimes. As for weird and exciting I agree. This is the most excitement I've had since I moved to Japan. Maybe the train will lead to somewhere interesting." Stacy said as her right leg started to twitch with her excitement.
"Hey Clayton did you see a image of some kinda creature? You know like a hologram? Because I saw what looked like a white wolf cub shortly after I saw the golden cross on the screen of my device."

Yeah he thought the same, he hadn't seen anyone get on the train after him and she didn't see anyone before her. Looking at the side of the wall Clayton thought about hitting the side of the wall in order to check for the same noise, before he could decide though Stacy started talking to him once again. "Yeah you mentioned america, my dad's actually from there funny enough, it where I got my last name." Herron wasn't exactly a japanese last name, even the name Clayton wasn't Japanese like. "yeah, at the very least it'll most likely be interesting. staying optimistic he agreed.
But that mention of a creature on his device made him bring it out once more, checking it real quick pressing a few buttons he saw a small dragon like thing, holding a sword similar to his own practice sword. "Uhh yeah, cept mines of a dinosaur in Kendo gear. Which is weird cause I practice Kendo myself." maybe wherever this thing came from had a good sense of humor.
"Does a white wolf mean anything to you?" if his seemed to be based on something he does maybe hers did as well.

Interesting Clayton's dad was from America. Probably not surprising but then again Stacy's name wasn't Japanese in origin either. She watched as Clayton pressed a few buttons and, sure enough, an image of a dinosaur in kendo armor appeared. Then he mentioned he practiced kendo himself. As she brought up the image of the white wolf again she was asked if it meant anything to her.
'Well other than my love of animals or knowledge of interesting animal facts.' She didn't think so before she said. "Well I write fanfiction as a hobby but I'm also a major nerd when it comes to animal facts. That and I feel calm around them or nature in general. So maybe."

So she wrote fanfiction? That caught Clayton off guard be had figured mostly teenagers wrote stuff like that, but he wasn't one to judge even if that wasn't in his interest. "Well, if you're calm around nature and animals then I guess it makes sense you'd have one as, er as whatever this thing is. Haven't exactly figured that out yet." scratching the back of his head he returned the device to his pocket still a bit confused on the matter at hand.
But then another question popped into his mind. "Thinking about it this train does look a bit old right? I mean most aren't brown and the inside reminds me a bit of those older trains you see in movies." there was another counter to the weird factor of what was going on, the other trains were different colors too, very suspicious.
"Though I guess that's mostly my speculation, I'm not really a train expert per say, I rarely ever ride them." maybe this was normal and he was weird? Maybe Stacy could confirm his suspension or drop them.

Stacy scratched her head as she looked at the device in her hand before looking back at Clayton before she said "Yeah. Maybe you're right. Wish we knew what these things were and why we received them under such strange circumstances."
When he mentioned the train they were on she thought for a moment before she replied "You have a point about the train. It's quite strange that we're on a train that appears old. But what do I know. This is this the first time I've been on any type of train."
Thinking back to the pained cry she heard earlier, she said "What I find stranger than the appearance of this train itself is the strange cry of pain earlier. I hope I wasn't hearing things."

Clayton was at his peak of curiosity and somehow he felt that answers would lie in the front of the train, grabbing his bag and throwing it over his shoulder he got up hands in his pockets as he walked into the center walkway. "You know I'd figure the conductor of the train just might have the answers I want, imma head up there and ask a few questions." didn't matter if Stacy wanted to follow or not Clayton already had his heart set on going up front to see where they were heading.
However going through the first few doors to the front cabin would provide more questions then answers for the teen, there didn't seem to be anywhere for the head of the train to be, it would just be another full cabin with nothing in it. "Wait huh? Then who's driving the train?" obvious confusion in his voice, this was even odder then the devices appearing from nowhere.

Stacy watched as Clayton got up and moved for the front of the train after mentioning about asking the conductor what was going on. It seemed as if he and her were of the same mind as she placed the device in her left pocket again before getting up to follow him. Since she hadn't removed her backpack she didn't have to gather it up like Clayton had.
She came through the doors at the front of the train shortly after Clayton and noticed how empty it was.
"Hmm. You have a point Clayton." she said her face clearly mimicking the confusion in Clayton's voice. "After all, it would be ridiculous if the train was driving itself."
Just as she finished speaking a faint movement in front of them caught her attention. Looking at the train controls she saw them moving as of their own accord.
"You have got to be kidding me."
