Some Excuse of a Recovery [Silence]

"It doesn't matter who put the ceiling there - because its not there. Someone else doing it isn't an excuse for you."
Tch. Now Silence had Iko all riled up. He took a moment to roll his neck, trying to calm himself down, his ear flicking at that next question. Something deep and personal - why did he join the Knights at all? The wolf froze at that, looking over at Silence over his shoulder, before he gave a sigh.
Because of K.
He wouldn't say it. Heck, he wasn't even sure if that was true at this point. Rather, he just leveled himself out, and took a deep breath. "... Dinner's on. Keep your ears open while I try and figure out how these next two weeks are going to go."
He'd leave it at that, stepping off with more purpose at that point. He needed a bit to cool off after that, and he wouldn't come to the table on time... ... And judging on where they would pick up next, Iko was none too keen on picking up that conversation. He'd actually scrounged something together, a notepad and a pen detailing what her training regiment was going to be for the next two weeks, based on her forms and her current capabilities.
Running. Sparring. More running, more sparring. Interspersed practice with Iko and Syre in each of her forms up to ultimate, until she got how to use them without having to double-check her thinking: "A lot of it comes down to breaking 'bad' habits and building new good ones. Hm... maybe we should hire a temporary doctor on call for this. I wonder if that Gatomon still does public field medic stuff..."

Silence rubbed at her neck, it seemed to her that she was just fishing for excuses at this point so she deigned to stop. This isn’t what she wanted to do; it wasn’t how she wanted to go about things. She’d grit her teeth and look down at her feet. She knew that look, she knew that pause. Why did he join the knights? He didn’t have to say, he didn’t even have to cover it up. His… words from before rang in her head. About how he owed it to mikemon and K.
It was because of her.
How could she measure up to that? The shutmon mulled about it at the moment and then shook her head. She didn’t need to measure up damnit! She was her own mon! Sure they had a lot of forms that were shared and their skills might be roughly the same but that didn’t mean that they were the same person! Nor did that mean she needed to hold herself to the same high standards! No. She needed to learn first.
”All right.”
Silence sat at the table, picking at her food and mumbling quietly to herself as she went over things in her head. How the fight went and the openings she saw in herself. Openings she saw in the wolf, fake openings, fake motions. Her wide range of stuff. IF she needed to improve she needed to change things. THere was scuffing of her feet on the ground as she worked out a new stance she wanted to try next time. Something that would flow better. Less openings intially and would keep to it until a third or fourth step. From there…
She’d flick her ears as iko spoke; she looked strangely thoughtful and her gaze was half on him and half on her food. Breaking bad habits, building good ones. Hiring a doctor for this? Silence stared at the other and set down her fork.
”I mean you could always ask mikemon or Holly? I know that they’re busy with school or business but…”
The shutmon mused and looked down to her food. Her fingers were still too bloody big for the forks and well the seat was a bit cramped so… She’d shift down to renamon which suited this area far better. It was then that her black claw would be noticable and the renamon seemed to be ignoring it.
”...On the spectrum of bad habits, how many do you see? That I’ve developed I mean.”

"Do you think you'd be able to focus with one of the two of them around?"
Iko gave a sigh. Honestly, that comment was somewhat half-hearted: Silence had a pretty decent idea, and the wolf was half-certain that Silence would still stick to the script. Besides, Syre was going to be around to help practice, and the cat was one of the 'three' that Silence was close to. After a few moments' thought, he walked it back: "Sorry... sorry, that was mean, I don't have an excuse for it." Right, why not actually check? He looked at his D-Terminal: "Classes are currently active in Luminas, and the doctor's feed is set to 'busy'. He might be helping out with surgical work in Whitewater or something, but he won't be available."
So, those two were probably out of the picture. Putting the device away, he'd blink as Silence got to the heart of the issue. What were her bad habits - or, in particular, how many did he see?
"There's several to round out, but you have a few larger ones. For one, you tend to relax briefly after knocking down your opponent - as if 'relieved' that you won, or something. The few times you've been able to knock me down, I've almost consistently been able to slip my feet between your ankles and send you crashing to the floor."
"Two, you suck at half measures. Though you've started using them, your feints don't accomplish much, and your full swings leave you wide open. And third, as a sword wielder, you're way too aggressive."
Iko sighed at that: "If I wanted to, I could have won every spar we had so far by stepping in after you missed a wild swing. Lean in, push you over, drive my knee against your sword arm and put my hand against your neck. The strength of a sword is being able to act at a distance - you don't have the body-type to win at point blank."

”Yeah probably. Though they’d likely get upset at seeing me get hurt now that I think of it.”
Silence furrowed her brow and rubbed at her neck; honestly he had a point there. She wouldn’t really be able to focus was she? Especially if they watched and made reactions like that. She’d flick an ear and blink at hearing him apologize. She wasn’t expecting that. In fact what was she expecting him to do? Be abrasive? Maybe be a bit forward about it? What did she think the wolf was going to do in general?
”Well… that’s unfortunate. Could always ask that friend of yours or maybe see if the butler would be willing to do medical work? He did patch up my snout decently enough.”
The shutmon leaned back in her chair and mulled at the options adn then that’s when iko got to the meat of the issue. She had several problems, one was that she relaxed too quickly after ‘winning’. Yeah she had a nasty habit of that, the fight against the agent was one of those. She had ‘won’ only to get grabbed by a foe she didn’t see.
”Yeah that’s… well. When I was fighting against the agents off in the D-reaper’s nest I had killed some big green looking one only to get yanked off my feet by one that came from behind me. Some big plant dragon thing that had run off from my allies I think. Too quick to… well. Too quick to relax I guess.”
Silence blinked a bit and rubbed at her chin; she needed practice to round the feints out. But she wasn’t sure what to do other than just work on them.
”To be honest the only way to get better at the half measures and feints is just to practice. I’ll admit I haven’t had much in the way of proper practice. Or even using them in a fight. Just more of the ‘my number is bigger than your number’ stuff that you told me about before.”
Silence wasn’t creating excuses, she was trying to follow through with what Iko was saying. She needed practice something bad and if the wolf was going to provide she would use him.
”...I’ve just been.. Erm. Very aggressive since the get go, or at least ‘bold’ in some ways or another. Hmm. Most of this is stuff I just need to get better at through practice. If it’s not pointblank what is the distance I should be acting from as a sword wielder? What sort of stances and general acts should I be partaking in? From this one to the ones on my wrists.”
She’d tap the sword on her waist and then the ones on her wrists. She didn’t look upset in the slightest but she did seem to be concerned in one way or another. If she had these many glaring weaknesses… was the dark spirit right? That she was wasting her potential? Or that it was wasted in some way?
”When I was out of the action and dragged along by one of the D-reaper agents, they said that I had wasted potential or some nonsense like that. Is… this kind of what they meant? That I’m just unpracticed or something?”

"Don't worry, I'll figure it out - and Garlond might be good at buffing out a few scratches, but when push comes to shove, it'll just be better to have someone like that on hand."
A 'temp' was well within the guild's budget, especially with all of Syre's patrols. For now, it was a matter of figuring out Silence's weaknesses, as well as building up on her strengths, to help her become a more well-rounded fighter. Thankfully, she didn't rebuff any of Iko's points, more-or-less accepting each of his critiques. He heard her questions, especially in regards to the stance, but he assured her that it would be better to see her in practice first.
As for what the Duskmon said, Iko rolled his eyes. "Forget him. If you take everything your opponent says to heart, you're just going to distract yourself. Their goal is to defeat you, kill you, or load you - and they'll even use their words as weapons." It wasn't even worth spending an extra thought on.
The Duskmon may have had a point - but the wolf didn't want Silence to get into the habit, at all, of listening to such an ill will.
"... Just make sure you get a good night's sleep." Because Silence was going to need it.
The first day? Well, Silence would see just how serious Iko was on this: Silence was set up on a six hour training schedule, and the first three hours of it wasn't training at all, but running. Running as a Renamon across the fields outside Terminus, until it felt like her lungs were about to be coughed out of her chest... and then even more running after that. The fighter had to be able to go the long haul, to be able to last the entire fight without losing her breath midway. And for the afternoon?
More sparring, at ultimate level, within the base against the Ankomon. And this time, skills were on the table: Silence would be thrown around with shadows, targeted with golden bullets, and Iko would have to contend with the Shutmon's own chilly abilities. It was definitely a strain on the arena, but in the end, both would be tired, battered, and beaten.
... Most likely, moreso Silence than Iko, as the fox would feel a warm towel pressed against her back, held by a Gatomon. "Keep your breathing level... time to cool down..."

”All right and I suppose that’s fair. Might be a good idea to learn some other doctors out and about in the digital world other than just mikemon hah.”
The shutmon shook her head and leaned on her arm; she looked oddly thoughtful for someone that came across so brash and so arrogant. An ear flicked to and fro whilst she looked to the table. She accepted the criticism because she wanted to improve [though to be fair she always wanted to improve...], she wanted to get better. She didn’t want to have that happen again. Where the enemy overwhelmed her because of happenstance. A thing she had to train herself to do was keeping her guard up. Especially around the end of the fight.
”Hmm. You have a point there. I suppose I should just ignore them when it comes to that. Or maybe improve my jib a little more so I can throw them off too.”
The shutmon rubbed her chin thoughtfully. IF they could use words as weapons she could as well. She’d have to work on that. Though she doubted that she could do that to iko without… well. Without a problem there.
”I usually sleep like a rock so that isn’t a problem.”
...And she slept like a rock; it wasn’t much of a surprise. Even if it was a spare bedroom that the knights had it was still pretty damn good. She’d be stretching and would raise a brow as they went to terminus of all places! Only to have the shutmon de-digivolve and… well Run. Run run run and run… She felt her lungs in her chest and the renamon would do quite well. Her time as a guard and the training they gave helped a bit but… nothing to this extreme!
More sparring after that and she’d have full reign of her abilities this time around. Suffice to say she was a lot better at handling those and having to deal with being thrown around with shadows [how cool was that?] and those golden bullets would find themselves peppering her body. Sure her chilly abilities were fairly out there but… Once they were at the end the renamon was now leaning forward. She still didn’t match up to him; before it was skill and now she figured it was just a wider gap.
She’d rub at her chin thoughtfully and do as she was told; flicking her ears back as the gatomon told her to keep her breathing level. It was hard given that she was so… well. Tired suffice to say, ran out of gas in one way or another.
”Thanks doc. This is gonna be rough… but it’s definitely better than being cooped up inside in a bed somewhere.”

"I could take it or leave it, honestly."
The doctor-cat didn't seem too keen on going through this sort of training herself, but its not like she was here to give her opinion! Slowly feeling the fox's breath level out, the Gatomon would let her healing pulse slowly seep through Silence's back, a light warm sensation weaving into her tired muscles.
"Ordinarily, this sort of training is one-day-on, one-day-off, so your body has time to acclimate. But like this, we should be able to get two days on, or at least one-and-a-half..."
"Well, we won't get to one and a half fighting every day." The wolf finally walked back in, bruised and battered himself, the Ankomon's left arm bandaged from where Silence had managed to get a good hit on him. "Tomorrow is going to be more cardio, and more practice with your motions. I can tell, there's nothing wrong with where your power is at, but most city 'mons don't build up their core like this."
Ultimately, it came down to this: "The longer you think you'll be able to fight, the less you'll end up rushing to find answers."

Silence flicked an ear as the doc definitely didn’t seem too keen on all of this. She couldn’t blame them really; this would probably be cutting into their own time somehow. She’d roll her shoulders and let out a sigh at feeling her muscles relax from the healing pulse. It was nice honestly and reminded her a bit of home; or at least the home with mikemon. She’d bite her lip lightly as the gatomon continued.
”Well days like this back to back shouldn’t be too bad as long as we have some time inbetween somewhere. Though I have to wonder...”
Silence’s eyes flicked up to the wolf as he walked back in. She’d wince a bit at seeing that left arm; she hadn’t meant to hit him like that but she had seen an opening and wasn’t about to let it just pass her by. She didn’t know if he had let her get an attack out or if it had been legitimate. She wasn’t going to question it though.
”More running eh? And more fighting? Presumably without the use of techniques this time around?”
Silence figured that they could get more done if they didn’t. It’d be more focused on the body. If he wanted to test her power there was different ways to go about it. But he wasn’t questioning that. It was questioning her skill and putting it to use in various ways.
”...That’s an odd way of putting it but all right.”
The fox didn’t think she needed to ask about how today went; she knew that the first couple days they wouldn’t see much; it would be the time between the start and finish that they’d see the most work be done. She’d rub at her muzzle rather thoughtfully before speaking up.
”I’m more used to people thinking of the now; or at least the short term goal. So thinking like this will be nice.”
There was a soft sigh and she’d shake her head. She wished that it was that simple; that she could focus on the future. Being so young she was brash, arrogant and… well. Probably a bit too amped up on her own power.
”All that aside… what’s next for today? A game of chess? Some checkers? Light reading?”

"Hmph. As much as I'd like to go full power every fight, I don't think our bodies nor the arena can stand up to our bullshit that long..."
Iko gave a tired sigh, and as the healing aura would fade from Silence's back, the Gatomon would step up and start tending to Iko's arm. The wolf wasn't perfect, and Silence did have a good-enough head on her shoulders - it was just a matter of making these moments more common. "Seriously, this beat up and you're thinking of anything but sleep? What did I sign up for..."
"A pretty paycheck." The wolf chuckled! "Just hang out with Syre if you want a chess game, I'm pretty bad at that kind of stuff. Just be ready for things to keep up the pace!" ... And they would.
Oh boy, would they ever keep up that pace. After the first week, Silence might wonder if they were ever going to get to that 'strategy' part or if she was just going to be made to run like a race horse! She had made improvements, though: no longer forced to collapse after the entire run, she was able to better keep up with the wolf in the afternoon, and the repeated fights put her a step above where she was before.
... But could she feel the difference? Or would Silence be left ragged and tired for the upteenth time, wondering when this whole experience would end? Where was her breaking point?

”Well we can at least see how many times we can do that without wrecking ourselves yes? We don’t need it to be often.”
Silence shrugged a bit and smiled tiredly at the gatomon. She had a vague idea of how long she could go for and how hard she could hit in every form but… She didn’t know exacts. She’d look at her own body and mumble to herself about a few things. Stretching out her limbs and then blinking a bit as the gatomon made quite a point.
”To be fair Miss, if we did nothing but train and sleep the both of us would probably get worn out about it. I don’t think either wolf present would want that.”
Silence grinned a bit and leaned forward, hearing about syre playing chess well. The renamon perked, she liked chess! In fact she really really liked it! Maybe she could get iko to play sometime? Or maybe something like stratego or checkers?
”Oh so I can’t get you to play checkers or something with me iko? And here I thought you were a strategist!”
The fights were intense.
The running and cardio was intense. She felt every part of it, more and more and more. She’d run like a race horse, she’d go further beyond. Pushing her body. She felt her progress. She was able to keep up on the runs, in fact she even managed to beat her times! The repeated fights…. Well they saw improvement of her form, her technique and she felt everything as it transpired.
She was tired yes.
But her breaking point? It had been… Well. Obliterated for the most part. There was a steel in her eyes. A fire in them that made it impossible for her to give up. She had fought against a terrible enemy of the digital world and rather than succumb… She had won. In her eyes at least. And that was a boon. That was what kept her going.
She’d growl lightly and push herself off the ground. She had been flung across the room and landed in a heap. Staring at the wolf across from her. He would be able to feel her core rotating from here, her energy shifting and shaking as it went. If he kept pushing her not only would he be able to see many of the results that he wanted.
He might even get something he wasn’t expecting at all. The gentle push from her renamon form was enough to yield a single secret.
If omegashutmon was one form she possessed. What of the others that were locked away? Were there even more?

She got up.
The Shaininmon, Iko's ultimate level, felt that last hit: a resounding hit with his fist that echoed all the way up to his shoulder. The wolf was able to step in close and get a resounding hit right into her midsection, one that should have left the Shutmon in a heap - but the wolf stubbornly got back up to her feet, sheer determination in her eyes.
The sign of frustration. And, most importantly, the sign of breaking through to something new. Seeing that look in her eyes, Iko decided to push it just a bit further. The slot on his helmet opened, a Lunar Ray aimed right for the Shutmon's midsection.
If all it took was a nudge, would he see something new out of this? He'd apologize for playing dirty, later!

She always. Always got up.
Her body. Her mind. Her very core had been shattered, splintered apart before. Yet she still strove to stand, she still strove to fight. Even as he pushed her, even as she had come to weather his attacks. There was a resounding pulsating beat to her core. Thrumming and positively bursting with energy. The shutmon’s eyes were dark, very much so. Their frustration and desire to advance made apparent.
She wasn’t expecting the lunar ray, nor was she expecting it to hit as hard as it did. She would be flung off of her feet and tumble backwards. Eventually laying on her back with a somewhat stunned expression.
That expression didn’t last as a absolutely blinding pillar of light engulfed her body. A signal and power that Iko would recognize. From when K herself was at her peak; when she was obviously at her strongest most unrefined moment. But even that moment was swept aside as the signal seemed to shatter that very concept.
It was a waste, or at least would be considered one if silence had any control over the sheer amount of energy that was radiating from her body. It was only a few moments at best that this overpowering wave was present before standing in a somewhat hunched manner was a form unlike anything in Silence’s or K’s entire arsenal.
A renamon.
A renamon with armor, bladed wings that hovered near her back. Long nasty looking claws; a hidden face behind a stone cold black and pitted yet moving mask. Her armor seemed to all draw motion to her chest where a pulsating orb of energy seemed to be collapsing in on itself over and over. The renamon seemed unaware of itself for a moment before it took a single step. The small ‘tink’ of her foot being the first sound she made.
The second was a pained roar of anger, frustration and something straight out of nightmares. It was literally like her throat was being torn apart merely from the sound she displayed and her wings spread out in what was clearly meant to be an attack formation.
One thing thankfully was clear from the get go...
Whatever this thing was. It was clearly super mega.

Something had awoken.
That was the intent, of course: a sudden stressor, a build-up of pressure to push Silence right over the edge, to let that hidden well of power spring forth. But what Iko saw afterwards made him grit his teeth in frustration. Whatever this was, it was immensely powerful, but also immensely flawed.
Her body looked like it was about to tear itself apart. Her demeanor looked more 'feral' than anything they had been practicing... and it looked like she was about to attack without restraint, despite this being intended as a spar. Iko had to act now, before the beast would get out of control - and though he couldn't hold it for long, he moved right up to his mega form, a cloak of black flames replacing that golden armor.
The intent was simple: one, dash on in, while Silence's body would still be adjusting to that form. Two, grasp Silence's collar, and hoist her up. And three, give her a throw, either against the wall or the floor directly below her, to give the back of her head a swift, heavy knock, to try and knock-out the fox straight away.
This form... it was too risky to allow for practice.

It was nothing like anything that silence had.
Nothing like K had.
Nothing like that monster of a meicrackmon had.
The sudden stress, the frustration and the anger that had been building. The want to improve and get better gave way to a powerful well of power that was practically tearing the form apart. There were parts of it that didn’t look finished and was the thing in her chest her core? Or just something else entirely? Judging by the waves of energy practically rolling off of it it likely was something else…
She would lose herself to this form if left unchecked, that single step had more ill intent in it than silence could ever muster on her own. Nothing about this made any sense. Even if you looked at it in the right way. Yes he was able to digivolve and yes that moment wouldn’t be wasted.
But Iko didn’t have to dash in; she had already dashed forward. A claw coming in for a nasty swing. But she was wide open in one way, only to have her other claw come in to try to hit his stomach. Something dark and primal was in there; something that wasn’t there before.
But it was knocked out before it could do much more than that single swing at her sparring companion. Her head cracking against the flooring with the full might of iko’s mega. Even from one level lower that was enough to dissuade this form to staying around. It was unstable thankfully…
So iko was left with a completely clonked out thankfully normal looking renamon. Well as normal as you could get given the armor and cloak that silence sported in this form. She looked completely out of it and her chest was rising and falling very quickly. A quick check of her body would find that it was practically on fire!

"Tch..."
Silence was down. All it took was one good hit for her to get right back down to her form as a rookie, a mere Renamon lying against the floor, as the feline observing gave an audible gasp. Managing to plant his feet, an arm right over his stomach, Iko felt himself slip right back down to Champion, a pained and stressed expression right across his face.
He didn't bother to check the Renamon's condition. Rather, he fell right to a knee, a hissed breath escaping through his teeth, as he swore under his breath.
"God damn it... doctor!" ... It would be some hours later that Silence would probably stir awake.
From whatever stupor she was in, the fox would have been collected and taken off to a side room, a cold, damp towel resting right against her forehead. A look out the window would show that it would be well after sunset. As for the wolf?
He sat in a chair at the side of the room, arms crossed, bandages covering his midsection. Whatever Silence had done, it had landed good, and Iko didn't look like he was back at 100%. Not yet, anyway.
