'Come on...'
Those walking along the sidewalks were forced to make space, some grumbling or shouting at the apparent rudeness of the obvious gaijin pushing past them, while others quickly made way upon actually seeing the tall figure's expression. However, he paid them no heed, save for quickly mumbled apologies in english, easily drowned out by the heavy downpour going on around him. Instead, he kept running through the streets of Western Shibuya, a somehwat towering figure clad in a black hoodie, hunched over with his only protection from the sudden rain being the beanie over his head.
And yet...he didn't care about it in the slightest.
"Where-?"
Sliding to an awkward stop, having nearly lost his balance on the wet concrete, Cairo "Kai" Duhanney looked around, amber eyes narrowing through his curtain of beaded braids, and his frown tightening as he took in more fancy restaurants and shops.
"Hnn." Taking a moment to try get a bearing on his surroundings, the tall, darkskinned exchange student felt a small movement beneath his hoodie. Ignoring the stares of people moving past him, Kai glanced down into the neck of his hoodie, spying the small bundle of dark blue cloth held against his chest. His frown softened slightly as a small whine came from the bundle.
It had begun maybe an hour and a half ago, when, after setting out into Shibuya for a bit of tagging, he had come across the small bundle huddled under an overpass, beaten and burned. Immediately feeling for the small.....thing...that was wrapped within the cloth, Kai forewent common sense and had tried to find a vet nearby that might be able to help with....whatever it was he found.
Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, Kai had forgotten two very important things: His grasp on Japanese- while fairly solid for the sake of the exchange program- was still pretty shoddy, and he had no literal idea of where he was going.
Add in his phone dying at somepoint after he found the bundle, and Kai was forced to do something he had trouble with even back home: asking people for directions. Kai was more than aware that his appearance alone, tall and broadshouldered with a constant slouch and frown, was already deterring enough for some, but add in his obvious "tourist badge" with the strong accent and stumbling over simple words, and the Brooklyn-raised young man found himself running in circles very quick. At this point, it was only concern for the barely breathing bundle in his arms that kept him going despite the sudden change in weather starting to really take its toll, his clothes now heavy with moisture.
"Just a little longer" He said in English, whispering to the small bundle, who let out a another small moan, its tone weaker than before. Glancing around, Kai made to ask another passerby where he was, but found the sidewalk starting to empty out, his trek having somehow taken him further into the area to the point that less stores were around and now he was seeing walled off homes and mansions. A grunt escaped his lips: Just what he needed, accidentally walking into the rich part of town. Clicking his tongue, Kai continued to glance around before his eyes settled on the walled off building he was directly in front of. Unlike the others, this one's gate seemed open and the lights coming from the windows suggested that whoever lived there was in at the moment. The stocky student hesitated for a brief moment, briefly considering how suspsicious it would probably look for someone like him to come knocking on the door right in the middle of a downpour like this, looking for all the world like he just ran a marathon.
'"Mnnn...."
And just like that, his feet were already at the front steps, hand raised to knock on the door. As he knocked, his arm shifted to hold the bundle tighter against him and keep the rain from hitting it.

Kan was taking it easy during this mess of a downpour. He rarely got customers in during this sort of thing and he didn’t much care about it. He was well off, so much so that he was slowly considering closing his shop permanently and doing more private ventures. But how would he keep up if those that he had helped in the past decided he wasn’t worth it? He’d lean back in his chair, staring at the cieling.
His ex-wife was out. His friends were out in the digital world taking care of various problems and things. Sovereigns, demonlords… D-reapers. Towers. It was a mess from the last he heard and well… What was he going to do with all of that? He was just someone that had gotten back into the swing of things. In such a way that he helped others get where they needed to. It was strange being on the sidelines and stranger still having rookies pass him by.
A man that had stepped twice in the shoes of super mega; left in such a way helping people that were just coming into their own. It was a strange irony but he felt like it was karma. The sort of karma that he was okay with. He might have hated it when he was younger but… It was nice to see people survive and flourish. People taking his advice and living rather than him cackling to the side as they struggled.
He’d take a sip at his coffee and lean to read his newspaper. There wasn’t much going on other than that little fiasco of goldenweek sometime in the year prior. Some people swore they saw strange beings and well… in this sort of storm maybe a mon would go around in it and cause trouble. Causing DATS to resurface and more rumors to spread. The veil between the two worlds seemed to be thinning and he wanted to make sure that his people and friends were safe.
A knock brought him out of his revere and the man’s eyes flicked up from the shop’s counter top. It was open… Why did people feel like they needed to knock? Unless the sign went out because of the rain. Really? That would suck as he just had installed it himself last week. Sighing to himself he’d slide over the counter and trudge to the front door.
Large glass windows and a see through door would make it easy to see the mammoth of a man approach. He didn’t have much in the way of height on the other but he was definitely far wider and far older. The man pulled the door open and well… the other might not have been used to looking up even if it was ever so slightly.
”The open sign broken again? Or- Oh? Delivery?”
He didn’t seem too bothered at being disturbed. In fact those piercing blue eyes and relaxed slouching of the shoulders seemed to make it out like he wasn’t going to bite. In fact he seemed almost… friendly. Almost. There was a certain danger when dealing with spirit users as their bodies were always seeming to be in peak one way or another.
His body was definitely in peak physical condition… judging by the muscles.

"....." Suffice to say, despite the situation, Kai couldn't help but stare in slight surprise. It wasn't often, being 6 foot 3, having to look UP at someone. And Jesus Christ did this guy make HIM look like a beanpole. If it were a different situation, Kai might've felt the slightest bit of envy over it, having a bit of pride in his own height and build.
But this wasn't any other situation.
Kai wasn't sure if this guy really would be able to help, honestly. If anything, he should've been more worried that he would call the police or something once he saw what Kai was carrying. But given the abruptness of the situation, the state he found his companion in, and the heavy downpour outside on what had to be the shittiest day ever, Kai was reluctantly a bit desperate in a situation he was not used to. It would've been easier if it had just been a normal cat or bird or something...
But the moment he saw the little bundle literally defying physics, he realized he had no idea what to do on his own. And that he needed help quick. He wasn't sure what was going to happen the moment he came in, but at this point, the little thing was fading fast, his movement was limited in this kind of weather, and the quickest source of a possible solution was right in front of him.
With that in mind, Kai unzipped his hoodie, revealing the paint splattered, garish yellow shirt underneath, covered with bits of soot from the bundle pressed against it. He cradled the burnt, torn up, rolled up blue cloth out to the larger man.
With a small moan, the bundle unfurled itself.
The cloth, if it could be considered more than scraps now, appeared like a hood, wrapped around a small, black ball of fur, two cat-like ears portruding from the head, and ringed with blues and greens around twin tails laying slack behind it. And it was in BAD shape.
Burn marks shown easily, even amongst the pitch black fur, combined with various angry, red scratches and scrapes literally gouging out clumps of fur. A large ring of teeth marks overtook half the creature's body, leaving one eye defintely punctured slightly. Of its two ears, one was clearly torn in half, while the other was burned black. The tails themselves hung limply, as if broken at the base, likewise burned and missing clumps of fur. Dangling from them, and seemingly the only thing keeping them attatched to the creature's body was a small string tied around a rusted, bent coin.
And as if to drive home how bad the situation was, every few moans from the creature was accompanied by its whole body just...spasming so badly, it was as if it became static for a moment. And with each spasm, trails of reddish dust would rise from its body before vanishing.
Just the sight made the frown on Kai's face waver.
"I...help...please..." Despite the deep bass of his voice, his own height and stocky frame...the desperation and plead was there, visible for Kan to hear.

Kan wasn’t used to people being tall enough to where he didn’t have to look almost straight down at them. He still had a good… What? Four five inches on this kid? His blue eyes took in the individual's appearance and he couldn’t help but frown a bit as he could tell something was wrong. Something that… Well. It was something he recognized.
Some problems that you learned from just experiencing them so many times over and over again. If it had been a normal cat or bird kan wouldn’t have turned away from them. He had plenty of things that would of made them comfy but… The next thing that he saw made the man’s eyes widen.
A small bundle of cloth that appeared in such a way he never knew possible. Or rather he had never seen before. A small black ball of fur with a hood, of some kind, some cat ears and there was that twin tails that were limply hanging. It was in bad shape and the man’s gaze shifted from it to the young man. The reddish dust made the massive man flinch a bit.
The pleading from the young man wasn’t needed, he’d lead him inside without even a second thought or word. Looking around outside to see if anyone had seen him the older man would lock the door and flick off the open sign’s light. No one would come and bother him if that wasn’t on. After all the security gate would close on it’s own with that circuit no longer having power.
”C’mon. Third floor.”
He’d grumble out, stepping past the other. He’d lead them upstairs, the second floor being nothing but storage crates, shelves and various other electrical goods. Sure there was some medical supplies in here but nothing geared towards a digimon. The fact that Kan didn’t even question what this thing was or what the other was doing with it probably didn’t look the best but… They were counting minutes at this point.
The third floor was just the first floor of a regular house. Though the ‘entry’ room was much smaller given that it was two floors away from the ‘ground floor’. He’d bring that youth quickly to a side room. Where… Well. Why did he even have a medical room like this? It had a little medical bed and a few things you’d expect from a monster. And it was well stocked.
”Lay them down and sit. The less they move the better.”
He’d growl out and kneel down to start rummaging around through one of the cabinets. Checking through packs and grumbling to himself as he seemed to be looking for something specific.
”You find them like this? Fight something too big for your britches maybe?”
He didn’t know what he was looking at and it wasn’t long before he sported a large needle with some clear liquid in it. It was… well it looked strange. Like it wasn’t from this world. It was hard to get things like this into the human world with dats running around and checking shit…
”Hold em still while I give them this. Should stop the bleeding but… it’s not exactly pleasant.”
If the youth did exactly that well... The other would find that their 'patient' would stop their bleeding as the medical data went to work. It was incredibly hard to stabilize this sort of stuff in the human world. Therefore it was also extremely expensive.
”Name?”

Kai had remained silent throughout the whole procession of events, his focus entirely on the fading bundle now being tended to, only going through the motions as he followed Kan inside and to the upper floors. He didnt question why the larger man was so willing to help him, especially now after realizing how the sight of the unidentified creature in his arms wouldve been cause for some alarm.
Instead there was just that small relief that there WAS someone who could help.It did little, however, to ease the unease that Kai was feeling. As he set down the small, fading bundle on the table Kan had prepared, Kai helped to hold it down, a small moan coming from the vaguely cat-like head. He gently rubbed between its ears, trying to calm it, and equally trying to ignore the red dust that seemed to shake off its body, fading upon touching his own fingers.
"You find them like this? Fight something too big for your britches, maybe?"
The moment Kan said those words, Kai let off the smallest of flinches, his shoulders tensing. For the briefest of moments, he was back there, under the overpass, having come across the smoking, burning aftermath of what had to have been a small explosion.
The gouges in the walls, the smell of ozone from the scorched ground. The rainfall echoing around him...
The tiny bundle that he found lying to the side, trying to hide itself under some garbage.
And the red, glowing eye he caught, staring at him from a distance, for the briefest of seconds.
"....." Kai stared at the small creature on the table, a small white slit of an eye barely opening weakly to look at him before shutting again. He numbly watched as Kan proceeded to administer some sort of injection to the creature, filled with some sort of liquid he couldn't even begin to know about, even if it were normal.
Then, to his surprise, the wounds that marred the small creature began to mend before his every eyes, the red floating dust now vanishing. Color began to return to the small creature as its labored breathing lessened and grew more calm.
And then Kai himself let out a small exhale, having not noticed he had held his breath the entire time. Relief began to well up as he began to gently stroke the small creature again in silence.
"Name?" For the third time that day Kai was caught off guard, finally remembering the guy next to him and looked over.
"....Kai....Cairo......Is it...gonna be alright?"

Kan knew how it was, how it hurt to find one like this and he couldn’t help but raise his brow as he noted that… Well. Kai wasn’t exactly the most responsive. Was it because of the rookie that he was holding? Was it because of something else? At that flinch that told him everything he needed to know. Even if they didn’t fight something together, something had fought the mon.
Kan’s work with the mon was done, there wasn’t anythign more he needed to do. Maybe he could help repair their little outfit if they wanted or maybe they’d like to keep it the way it was as sort of a memento? He didn’t know. Nor did he really question it. The man shifted and tilted his head. Looking at the both of them; there was a little bit of love there wasn’t it? Between this kai and whatever digimon was laying on the bed.
”Well if you had gotten to me five minutes later the answer would have been no. But you got to me right when it mattered most. So they’ll be fine. If not a little tuckered out for a couple days. All that thing does is hyper tune a mon’s body for healing. So it’s natural healing factor got kicked up to help save it. No fighting for the next couple days. A week if you can help it.”
The fact he asked in such a way indicated that the kid didn’t know the name of the mon. But giving his own at least made this easier. It was a name he hadn’t heard before; both in and out of the digital world. He’d bite the inside of his cheek and manage a small sigh.
”Well Kai. Most call me Kan. Actually? Everyone calls me Kan. So you get to call me that too. How much do you know about these creatures?”
It was an easy start and a gentle one. Kan sounded like he had asked this question a dozen or more times. In all honesty the man had lost track himself. But it was currently sitting at about thirty or so people… A rather high number and considering that most of that thirty were gone or in dust… Didn’t bode well.
Then again when he helped out a vast majority of them the digital world was a far more cruel and unforgiving place than it was now. His hand slid into his pocket, teasing at the idea of taking out his digivice. But he refrained for now. He had no reason to overwhelm this kid. Given that this was likely his first ever experience with digimon...
"I'd suggest sitting."
