It was time.
Silence was out with the Knights, still trying to find herself. Syre was busy on a mission. And, to his knowledge, Holly was busy studying back at the cabin, or working on tidying up her place back in Luminas. With the proverbial nest empty and with his own work off the table, the doctor found himself deep in one of the mountain's valleys.
His ear gave a flick, as a breeze cut through the air.
"... What do you think?" The cat briefly looked over his shoulder. His cohort, the Stingmon, simply gave a nod.
"... Quiet as can be. I don't sense anyone else around, my Lord."
"Please, don't start with that shit." Mikemon gave a sigh. Right: here, away from everybody else, maybe Mikemon could focus on the task at hand. He took a seat on a smooth, rocky perch, pressed his hands together, and closed his eyes.
Focusing. Meditating.
And soon, that dark aura would begin to surround him, a red flame beginning to flick off of what looked like a dark, ethereal outline. It was unrefined compared to those that would be familiar with the current happenings, but it was unmistakable: this was the natural aura of a demon lord. And the doctor? Well, he was trying to refine it, and perfect it.
To become back in touch with who he once was.

Holly had indeed been back at the cabin for a bit, she had spent some time there then spent some time at her place. Cleaning it up, getting it ready. Mostly fixing the piping or electrical stuff in the upper portions that hadn’t been properly maintained for good lord knows how long. Yes they were fine but it was never the focus of the prior group.
She had arrived to the ‘nest’ about an hour ago to mostly go through her notes and various things she wanted to go over. She was more or less minding her own business… When. She felt an odd itch. Something that made her stop in her motion. Jade bristled a bit as she felt something odd about holly and the meicrackmon growled as she turned her head.
That signal.
That signal that she recognized without even a moment of thinking. She had fought it once before, in the deep of the mountains. She’d curl her lip in a small snarl and she felt the paper she was holding practically quiver in her grip. She recognized it and being this close to the home? Were the demonlords trying to subjugate this place? Attack this place? Prepare for some dastardly scheme? Well she was likely the only one to sense it and that was probably for the best.
Mass panic was never a good thing.
The meicrackmon set down her paper and pushed open the door from the ‘nest’. Looking around as she tried to sense where the signal was coming from. It wasn’t hard to pinpoint, it’s not like they were trying to hide it. She’d growl to herself and start off sprinting. Her feet barely touching the snow, barely making tracks. A scuff here or there that could be easily mistaken for much lighter tracks. Much lighter foes.
She felt the distant emotions, the anger, the pain the… Could she truly call it hate? No. She only felt the pain of loss. The blame that she had on the evils of this world. The blur that she was. It’d be a moment. A very short moment. The stingmon might notice her; might. The mikemon might notice her… but.
The meicrackmon carried with her something from her mother, an incredible speed. There was next to zero hesitation and the first thing either of them would likely see or hear was a small growl before the pounce! Though it’d take holly a moment to realize who she was about to pounce on!
”...D-da?”
She had stopped in her tracks; she felt her data run cold. Her eyes widened and the meicrackmon’s momentum was completely destroyed. The lightning that had been charging in her hands faded away as her body went from ‘assassin mode’ to the outright shock of seeing her father.
”...Why do you feel like one of them?”
There was such a painful emphasis on the word that there was no doubt in it. She had learned to fear what they were capable of, if such a being like her mother was unable to best the best of them what chance did the rest of them have on their own? What was her father doing here with such a dastardly signal? Why did her fur feel like it was standing on edge and why did her eyes go from the mikemon to the stingmon. Such a pained accusation to the bug that transcended rhyme or reason.

"..."
The doctor found himself in deep focus. It had been a while since he had openly plunged into the depths of his data like this: he ordinarily kept a shell to hide this wicked energy from the world. K knew, of course, but neither Holly nor Syre would have ever seen their father like this. Slowly, that flickering energy would start to wrap around the cat's body, building into a more proper, stable aura.
But, he wouldn't get that far. With a flick of his ear, he heard the 'crack' of something in the distance - and with a tsk, he'd rise to his feet. Stingmon instinctively followed his Lord's intuition, beginning to draw a needle himself - only to see Mikemon's own daughter appear in front of them!
The doctor blinked. The scowl that had grown on his lips instantly vanished, though he kept that aura flickering around him. Right now, he couldn't afford to go back on his progress, the doctor letting out a silent, but pointed, swear under his lips, as Holly's question burned into his ears.
"... We can't change who we are, Holly."
The doctor led with that, and with a deep breath, slowly tried to regain his composure. Any tensity he had to start a fight dropped, the Stingmon following by concealing that needle once more, giving a nod to the MeiCrackmon. The usually-lazy insect now seemed more refined in tone, like he'd finally returned to his usual self.
"To give you the short version of it," Mikemon started, "I'm Greed. A Greed, not the Greed. The current Demon Lords are in their fiftieth or sixtieth incarnation, if I had to guess - I was the Thirty-Sixth."
He gave a 'tsk' at that, wondering how much of that Holly would 'accept' at once. "Let's... not talk about it. Here, at least. I'll start some coffee and tea when we get back to the cabin."

Holly had never seen stingmon or her da like this. She had never felt this energy, she had never felt this… darkness from him. Why was he like this? The meicrackmon looked between the two of them; her eyes were assessing them without even meaning to. She was still in that ‘mode’ of things. Like she was ready to fight if she needed to. A small flicker of lightning dancing from her shoulder down to her fingers before fizzing out.
”...You… What?”
Holly felt her shoulders sag and she’d stare at mikemon as he explained. That he was greed. Not the greed but A greed. He was the Thirty Sixth and the current renditions were in their fifties or sixties. She’d open and close her mouth; as though no sound would come out from them. It wouldn’t even be a moment before jade was present; proccessing. Humming and taking the information that her friend and mother had just heard.
”...Here would be a bad place to talk about it. But… I… you. I. You. Did… Who else knows?”
Holly wasn’t even sure what was real at this point in time. Her da was a former demonlord, her ma was a twice over royal knight in the past now turned into some viking esq fighter in another rendition and her sister… Wait..
”...So what does that even make me, siris or syre?”
There was actual confusion in her words and plastered on her face. Jade bobbled up and down as they seemed to agree with the question or at least wanted to re-enforce it in some way or another!

Of course, this wasn't going to be easy to explain - but at the very least, the three of them could get out of the cold! It didn't take long for Mikemon to open a portal back to their cabin, and they would step right on through. The insect gave a nod before taking his leave upstairs, as the doctor stepped into the kitchen, putting a pot of water up onto the stove.
All the while, he didn't let his aura drop. In fact, over time, it seemed to start to 'stabilize', the more fire-like nature of it tampering down over time, as if he was trying to pat down a wet patch of hair.
"Let's see... who else knows?" The cat gave a blink. "Well, let's see. K knew. Dio and Carlos know, as do Haru and Tawna - oh, and Stingmon, of course." The last one was a bit obvious, but still worth putting out there. Starting the coffee, he gave a smirk as the MeiCrackmon's curious nature poked through again.
What did that mean for the kids?
"K left much more of an impression than I ever could, Holly. The most you got out of me is 'being a cat'!" A hearty chuckle followed, as he shook his head. "Lordship is passed by Title. When one falls or loses his Title, it is passed back onto The Village of Beginnings like anything else. The Thirty-Seventh Lord would have been the next Salamon hatching at the time. Its not something that passes through lineage."

Holly rubbed at her face and shook her head as they were in the cabin now; she had to focus. What was in front of her and who was in front of her was important. Her body was screaming to react with this aura around and it was making her feel a bit jittery. It was nothing like sloth and nothing like the sovereign she had fought. It was lesser but somehow had more impact than either of them. Jade on the other hand simply floated about, seeming bored after recording that aura and taking in the locale…
”...I would be surprised if Ma didn’t know. I think Mr. Iko said it best about how you two were attached at the hip…”
Holly flicked her ears a few times as the mikemon answered her question in a way she didn’t really intend. The kids that these two had were powerful and made strides of their own in directions of their own. She wasn’t curious about the title and gave her head a shake.
”That’s not what I mean. Ma was a royal knight twice removed and had some gracenovamon as a third. Then you add your data to the mix while dormant in a way would still have some kind of impact. We might not have the titles or the like but I feel like that explains so much more than it doesn’t. Syre’s latent ability is far greater than mine and any kids that the two of you have had all have gotten to levels that most people take entire lives to reach.”
Holly paused and leaned this way and that, poking at her da’s shoulder. She could feel and see the aura in such a way that made it… less hostile than initially warranted. She’d bite her lip and then there was another question she felt like she needed to ask.
”...You’re channeling your energy like this makes me wonder if we’re capable of something simular but to a less degree. Not like. The same energy but… Guh. I’m getting offtrack. Why are you doing this?”

Sheesh, Holly's quick to pick up on the take, wasn't she?
With the coffee and the tea starting to brew, the cat would finally take a seat across from Holly. The MeiCrackmon didn't mean inheriting the Demon Lord's power directly, but that her current strength made a lot more sense in retrospect. "I mean... sure. Your mother was literally made from the fused cores of two fallen knights, and your father was - and is - a Demon Lord. That would definitely play well into your growth cycle, but I doubt you'd be able to produce an aura like mine. And you certainly wouldn't have any of Greed's powers."
That much, the doctor was relatively certain of. Feeling that poke on his shoulder, the cat would give a sigh.
That question was coming.
"Why are you doing this?"
To that, the doctor actually hesitated. His eyes cast off to the side, the smile slowly lowering on his face as his expression took a more sullen look. There was definitely a reason that the doctor was doing this - a reason that weighed deep and heavy on the doctor's heart. The aura around him would flare for a moment, as the doctor let out a long, low sigh.
"... I'm proud of you, Holly. Oh-so-proud." The smile returned to the edge of his lips. "You've grown into a smart, wonderful thinker, who has the potential to change the world. Syre's a great fighter, and eventually, she'll be a great leader of her own right. But, for that world to come?"
He chuckled.
"I'm just trying to do my part."

Holly rubbed at her chin as the mikemon explained some things. How her mother was indeed from the fused cores of the fallen knights and how her father was indeed that demonlord. How that those would affect their growth cycles and then the doubt that she’d be able to produce an aura like his. She’d frown a bit and lean forward, taking a seat and staring at her da.
”On the aura part I’m not so sure. Sometimes when I get angry or when I get heated I get the same.. Intensity that I’ve felt from when ma was super mega the few times she explained the level to me. But the aura you have is somehow different. It’s stronger, weaker, but stronger and stranger. Like in certain aspects it feels…”
Holly flicked her ears a few times and she’d frown as the doctor hesitated. That sullen look. She knew the sadness, the heavy weight that they were all carrying. The flare of the signal made her claws slide out of her fingers for a moment before sliding back in. Then came the compliments. How he was proud, how she was smart, how she was a wonderful thinker and the potential. How syre was a great fighter and would be a great leader… But for that to come he’d need to do this.
”....”
She grew silent and sat there for a few moments; she knew what he was talking about. She knew what he was going to do, there was nothing she could say or do to stop him was there? She was going to lose another parent to this monster. To this creature that she couldn’t even call a proper digimon. She’d drag her fingers across the wood of the table and before too long mikemon would find himself scooped up in a big hug. Holly’s face pressing against his chest and tears streaming out of her eyes.
”I don’t want to lose you too…”

Of course, Mikemon had no intention to lose.
Far from it. Once he had resolved that he was going to do this in his heart, Mikemon started looking to every possible avenue to improve his chances. With a fresh set of demon pills under his glove, all he had to be able to do was re-master Greed's aura to fight evenly with that monster. After that, it all came to how well the former lord could stand up to the current one, propped up by his remaining supporters.
But for Holly? That wouldn't be enough to comfort her at all. Though Mikemon was indirect, his resolve was clear, and his intent was plain as day to see. Holly almost seemed aghast to see her dad like this, lost and confused as to how her parent could have come to this conclusion.
Why was it Mikemon who had to fight Wrath?
Keeping his aura steady, the doctor gave a blink, suddenly feeling himself plucked right on up into the strong arms of the MeiCrackmon. Even in her taller state, his daughter pressed her eyes right against his chest, the doctor feeling that grip across his back. He'd soon regain his smile, though, wrapping his arms around the back of her neck in a gentle hug.
"Now, Holly. You know me - and you know I don't do something if there's not a point to it." He gave a smile. "I'm not going to lie and say that everything will be fine. I can't guarantee that. But, in that same way... I need you to believe."
"I need you to know that I can do this. Your dad's got more than one trick up his sleeve."

Holly didn’t know what he could do, she didn’t know the plans he had. She didn’t know the power or the presence he would be able to muster. The meicrackmon scrunched her eyes shut, trying to bite back the tears. If she lost him she would have nothing left ot support her. Sure she’d have syre but they would also be destroyed by the loss of both parents…
”Isn’t there… anyone else that can fight him? Anyone. The wolf, uncle den den, Mr. Toki or even maybe those stupid angels in their stupid towers doing stupid nothing to help the world! Why does it have to be you?”
Holly was begging and trying to pull at her da; she didn’t want him to go and do this. She really didn’t; she was afraid to lose him. Afraid to see him go the same way that her mother went. Surrounded by family but ultimately unable to hold themselves together.
”I know that… I do… But… I. He’s so powerful, if the demonlords on their own are so much stronger than everyone what chance or what trick can save that? What happens when those fail? Do your un and just try again? Is it something that you can even attempt more than once? Is there anything I can do to help? Don’t do this alone. From what I heard ma did that, or at least she had some semblance of help and even then! This isn’t something you should do alone!”
She was begging, there wasn’t getting around that. She wanted to help, she wanted to do something. She couldn’t just sit back and watch another parent of hers die. If she had known that her ma was going to go out and fight wrath like that she would of tried to pull them back or at least make it so that they didn’t act foolishly.
”Even with this aura and all this.. This this whatnot… Just… Ugh.”
Holly sat down, letting her father go and shaking her head several times. She was having a hard time trying to keep her emotions in check. Jade had buggered off to somewhere else [though they left a single orb to keep track of the two of them like she was wont to do] and holly’s own signal was spiking and alternating between calm and not!

Wasn't there anyone else who could fight Wrath?
That one... Mikemon did honestly consider that one. To that, Mikemon actually gave a nod. "Sure there is. Of that list, in fact, Team Metal Drive would probably have a fairly high chance of defeating Wrath, and Iko would be an excellent asset to fight against him. But..."
He gave a tsk. "... You have to consider the Demon Lord himself, Wrath. Wrath is a very personal fighter, and one who revels in violence. With a group, he has no qualms trying to do whatever it takes to bring them down - even if it involves directly bringing in the other Lords. Even if he doesn't wear it on his sleeve, he'd perceive a group as a weakness - and a solo fighter who wouldn't be up to snuff to his level probably wouldn't garner enough respect for him to fight honestly."
"... As Wrath is right now, I feel I might be one of the few Digimon in the world that he would fight one-on-one, and not complain about the outcome."
But Holly might not see it that way. Returning that hug, he would let Holly get out her more emotional questions. Was this something he could try more than once? Could he run, and try again? Did he REALLY need to do this alone?
Mikemon didn't answer.
... Because Holly already knew what that answer was, in her heart.
"Holly. Believe me." The cat gave a smile. "I know. To you, this is a stupid, dangerous fight - one with high risk, one that would tear our lives apart if it goes sour. But you know mom. You know the Wisemon. There are times when we have to dedicate our entire heart to something, our entire existence, to try and set things right. And right now, I believe this is the best chance we have of striking a critical blow to the most maligned of the Demon Lords right now. If Wrath falls, their confidence as a group will shatter completely - and the remainder will just be eccentric Digimon of their own right."
Not once did Mikemon's words waver. Not once did his heart flutter, or did he show any hesitation.
"So promise me. Whatever happens, Holly? That you will become a wonderful doctor."

”Then why-... Oh.”
Holly blinked a few times as mikemon explained everything. She’d sit there, processing. Mulling over the information she was given. Jade’s primary orb floated in and she’d turn her eyes to it. She had thoughts and ideas of her own; things she could do and maybe… just maybe she could help. If he reveled in violence a completely passive presence might be something wrath would ignore. And if they could they could use whatever information Daemon gave them to their advantage if he blabbered.
”Okay. Okay. You obviously have your mind set on this and… well. I’ll promise you I’ll be a wonderful doctor. Like. I doubt that I can’t be anything other than one at this point erm… Take jade with you? Or at least one of her side orbs. That way jade can record what happens.”
Holly hums a bit and then flicked their ears as… Wisemon? Her face screwed up and she’d lean forward a bit. She looked confused and well… She’d speak slowly and haltingly.
”I… Don’t actually know Wisemon. I know ma but… I don’t know him. I know ma was going to fight him and did fight him. Then he ended up killing her in the end but… other than that I don’t know anything about him or where he is now.”
Holly scratched at her neck in a somewhat awkward way before leaning back in her chair. She had to think about all of this and after a few moments she’d stare at him. If he was so intent on winning this or so intent on fighting him… Well. She had a suggestion and a demand!
”Two things. One. If you do fight him, win or lose. You should figure out what you want to do other than just a doctor. Doctors don’t just go out and fight everyone…. And. I want you to teach me this aura stuff. Even if I can’t do it like you I can probably still do it in some capacity.”

One request for another, then?
Mikemon would return a nod to the MeiCrackmon. "Alright. I'll take a smaller orb of Jade - enough that you'll be able to get a record of the fight. And... huh." The cat blinked - was Holly really so young back then? Maybe those thoughts were just starting to blend together in his head for now.
"Well, to put it simply, the Wisemon was one who knew how to control people completely, avoid the effects of the Dark Spires, and keep Digimon trapped in his book just by getting them to read its pages. Honestly, I'm glad you never had to deal with him. He hurt this family personally, by taking control of her for a while... so it became her fight. To remove that menace of a Digimon from the world entirely."
Mikemon's ear gave a flick there, hearing the teapot come to a boil. He'd stand up and take the pot off, letting it rest as he'd get a couple of mugs from the drawer. "Hm? Well... you might have a point there." Setting a teabag in the mug, he'd get the first cup prepared for Holly. "I don't know how much people will look at me for medicine after this. Maybe I'll sign up to handle the medical bay for the Knights, I dunno. And... heh, this aura stuff?"
He'd chuckle, preparing his own mug. "I can try. Its just a matter of if you'd even have any to-"
He was cut off, by the sound of a loud snap, a red crack of energy going off by his ear. Immediately, the cat grit his teeth, dropping the mug as he raised a hand to a small burn at the back of his ear.
"... use. Ugh, there's the kickback." With that snap, the aura seemed almost restless around him, thrown off-balance, once more appearing in a more fire-like state. "Tch... to think I used to breathe this stuff all the time..."

Holly tilted her head, giving him a small smile as he agreed to take one of the orbs with him. If she needed to she could communicate through it or even help out somehow. Maybe. She flicked an ear and glanced at the orb that was nearby. It seemed to shake it’s head and she’d frown. Okay maybe just watch then…
”It’s… a pity that he couldn’t use his powers for better purposes. Imagine being able to control people that shouldn’t move because they’re hurt or trapping dangerous people in books to slowly ween them into acceptable members of society. Avoiding the effects of Dark spires? What’s… a dark spire? And… control ma? Now… this is something I definitely never heard from her or you.”
Holly leaned forward and glanced up at the teapot as he went to make the tea or coffee. She seemed to be pleased with getting a cup of tea; she didn’t mind drinking it and it helped soothe her nerves.
”You should talk to syre, iko or Silence directly then. I heard she’s been doing training with Mr. Iko. And judging from the signal I get of hers from time to time…”
Holly jolted as there was that loud snap, nearly falling out of her chair as the mikemon had to deal with the kickback. She’d quickly go over to him and look over to his ear. She seemed ready to start helping him if he needed it.
”Yeah. The aura stuff. If you can do it that should mean that maybe your kids can in some regards. I think most of us inherited some skills or powers from both of you. So it’d only make sense that one if not all of us might be able to use that sort of talent. I could maybe even make my healing stuff more potent.”
Holly ran a hand over her forehead and let out a small chuckle. Then again her mega and super mega forms were extremely powerful when it came to healing abilities. Both of which holly never had shown her father.
”Then again you haven’t seen Ancient_Raguelmon or Clarimon Major so… Maybe I could help you by healing or dealing with the drawbacks so you can get a little more into it? They both are very powerful healers.”

"Heh... I guess there's still a lot I haven't told you about back then. And honestly, I don't think Syre knows a lot about it either."
Still reeling a bit from that kickback, the doctor would briefly close his eyes, and try and let that aura settle on in again. Having Holly to talk to helped distract him from the more uncomfortable parts of this practice. "The Dark Spire story's not something I can do justice with just a minute or two - and definitely not everything about that fuuhh.... accursed wizard." He gave a cough there, nodding as Holly mentioned something about Silence's training. She was coming along quite well, wasn't she?
As for the 'aura stuff'? The doctor gave a sigh, letting Holly see that slight burn mark on the back of his head. "Well, as you can see, my 'old aura' doesn't match well with this 'new body'. I'm less trying to focus it, and more trying to acclimate to it, so I can be able to... 'fight like I used to' for as long as the fight would last. Because, well, I may be a mega..."
He chuckled.
"But did you think I'd fight as some two-foot tall medical type?"
