((OOC: With the posting of this thread, the original Katsuo's Appearing Act is hereby retconned.))
Magic tricks are nothing but illusions. So why was it that Katsuo Saishiro had actually disappeared? He stared in disbelief at the small device that had materialized in his hands.
He stood in the trough of a series of lush, rolling hills. The grass was slightly damp, as if a gentle rain fell from the clouds earlier. But Katsuo wasn't supposed to be here. He was supposed to be understage.
It was one of his bigger shows, held in a popular hotel. Katsuo had hired an assistant to aid in his performance. He had the crowd's complete, devoted attention. The lights were all staring at him. He basked in it before stepping into the upright coffin behind him. The assistant sealed it shut, and as he listened to them hammering nails to show the audience it was unopenable, Katsuo was running his fingers along the floor. He felt a tiny notch and gripped it with his gloved fingertips, lifting a hidden trapdoor. Silently he slipped under the stage. What the audience saw was the assistant stab a blade into a slot in the side of the coffin, but truly it was already empty.
As Katsuo was maneuvering towards the staircase leading to the area behind the backstage curtain, his phone shone brightly in his pocket, dispelling the pitch-black darkness. He hesitated for a moment, then pulled out his phone. Binary jargon was racing across the screen. And that's when it shone the brightest, blinding him.
And when his eyes readjusted themselves, he found himself somewhere completely different.
"What on earth...?" He muttered to himself. He put the strange device in his pocket and removed the mask from his face- he was still in his stage outfit. Katsuo climbed to the top of the nearest hill and looked around.
The hills rolled on and on into the distance dotted with the occasional tree, and further in the distance, he could make out a forest. Scattered through the landscape were various ponds. However, there were no buildings to be found. Katsuo's heart began to quicken, both with fear and excitement. He was in the middle of nowhere.
Just then, he felt something gently touch his back. He turned around, just to have a bubble touch his cheek and pop. Immediately it began to itch. Katsuo flinched and brought a hand to his face. His eyes travelled down and met with what looked like a very upset plushy.
Oh, except plushies don't shoot bubbles at people. Katsuo guarded his face with his sleeve as more bubbles popped harmlessly against his clothes. The small creature in front of him, covered in purple fur standing on end, glared at him.
"Who are you?" It barked. Katsuo was taken aback.
"It spoke," He said.
"I said, who are you?!" It jumped toward him. He took a step back.
"Uhm..." Katsuo swallowed. "Katsuo Saishiro?"
"Katsuo..? Katsuo..." Its fur began to relax, and it scratched its chin with its ear. "Katsuo... Do you have a Digivice?"
He raised his brow at the question. What was a Digivice? Was it...? He pulled out the gadget he was holding earlier. He felt his chest tighten. "This thing?"
It perked up immediately. "Yes! A Digivice! I knew it! I've been waiting for you, Katsuo. Although I don't think you're my type of partner..." It hopped towards him and began inspecting him closely.
Katsuo resisted kicking it away, and instead stepped back. "Waiting? Partner? I don't understand any of this! What are you? Where am I?!" He shouted.
The creature frowned. "I guess I have some explaining to do."
Hesitantly, Katsuo listened as the creature described itself and the world he had found himself in. The creature was known as a Pagumon, a species of Digimon, which are lifeforms made of data. He was in the Digital World, where the Digimon live. Sometimes humans will enter the Digital World and are granted a Digivice, and sometimes partner Digimon are waiting for their arrival.
"I was born knowing your name, Katsuo." A glimmer of light appeared in Pagumon's eyes but quickly faded. "That should make us partners."
"What's it mean... To be partners?" The magician asked, but Pagumon had turned around and was hopping away. "Pagumon?"
"Just call me Loki," He replied, still going. "Now come on. I'm going to see if you're really my partner or not."
Katsuo stood, going through the sudden new reality in his head. When he had returned from his thoughts, Loki was already at the bottom of the hill. "Hey! Wait up! Loki!"
And so he followed the Digimon, no more words being spoken between them. It wouldn't be much longer before they encountered someone else, though...
