Stacy paced around the jail cell she had been placed in. After making what felt like the hundredth circle in the cell she began to think about how she got in her current mess in the first place.
A few hours ago.
Stacy walked through town taking it all in. After getting off the Trailmon she began roaming through a town with an old timey western feel to it. Various shops lined the streets with many digimon and the occasional human wandering the streets seemingly minding their own business. When a faint foul smell became apparent, Stacy stopped and pinched her nose. 'Eww, that totally reeks. Smells like a sewer around here.' Luckily the smell faded quickly but then a scream of "Stop thief!" echoed down the street in the direction of where the foul smell disappeared. Curious she went in the direction of the scream even though a small part of her told her to go the opposite way. Seconds later, she was knocked over by what looked like a human girl about twenty or so. The girl was an inch shorter than her with long black hair and green eyes.
Instead of apologizing the girl sped past Stacy as she got up. "Geez. Excuse you too." she said as she brushed herself of. She was about to just walk onward when she heard what sounded like spurred boots followed by a click of a gun behind her.
"Alright lil' missy, hold it right there. Don't do nuthin' funny and I won't have to start shooting." a male voice said with a slight western accent.
Making no sudden movements, Stacy asked "Who are you and what is your problem with me?"
"Don't act all innocent. I know that ya robbed, Babamon and took her treasure from her."
"I don't know what you're talking about, sir. I just got into town and I came from the opposite direction of the crime scene." Stacy said as she tried to talk her way out of the problem she found her self with. Just in case things didn't pan out though she had a back up plan. Moving slowly, Stacy managed to slide her D-Tector from her coat pocket and slip it up her shirt hiding it in her bra.
"I'm not gonna fall fer that. Yer under arrest." the voice, which was now obviously belonging to a lawman, said.
With that she was arrested and shortly locked up in a cell. Her backpack and leather coat were confiscated by the digimon which she learned was named Deputymon. He was the deputy of Rustport. A deputy called Deputymon. If she wasn't in such a bad situation she might've found this funny. That and the sheriff was out of town making dealing with this incompetent law 'mon' more annoying. After finding out she was arrested because she was the first female human he saw near the scene was stupid considering that there had to have been at least five other females nearby including the one that crashed into her. It probably didn't help that the Babamon seemed to be near sighted.
Back to the Present
Still pacing, Stacy reached into her shirt and pulled her D-Tector from her bra. Now standing still she glanced at it before glancing outside her cell. Deputymon had fallen into a deep sleep at his desk so she looked around for the keys to the cell. It was now nightfall so she knew if the suspect was still in town now would be the time to stage a break out to track down this girl and clear her name. Looking on the far side of the room, Stacy soon found the keys to the cell.
Fractal coding appeared around her hand in a thin line as she ran it over the top of her D-Tector and quietly said "Execute! Sprite Sprit evolution!"
As if knowing stealth was key the transformation happened with no glowing holy light or a wolf howl as the transformation finished. "Hinookamimon!" she whispered her transformation complete. The snow white wolf digimon looked outside the cell at the keys again and focused her holy energy making her tail transform into prayer beads. It seemed strange to use her attack to fish for keys but she had no choice seeing as her human form couldn't reach them. "Sacred Beads." she whispered as her now transformed tail stretched out carefully for the keys. Keeping focus was the key, that she knew. That and keeping as quiet as possible. Slowly and carefully her tail looped under the key ring grabbing on to it, much to her surprise. She had not expected her tail to be prehensile, like a monkey, in any state. Slowly and carefully she lifted the key ring to avoid making unnecessary noise. Then. with just as much care, slowly pulled the keys into the cell and placed them on the floor.
After returning to her human form she bent down and picked up the keys. Moving over to the bars, she reached out through them and used the keys to unlock the cell. Then she slowly pushed the cell open and walked out placing the key ring back on its hook. She then grabbed her black leather jacket and placed it on, just in case it was chilly, and left leaving her backpack behind at the jail. She knew she wouldn't need her medicine to track down a criminal and since that was the only thing in her backpack, she figured it would be best to leave it at the jail. Besides, if she was successful, she would be able to not only retrieve her backpack but also leave town without a criminal record in the Digital World.
Heading out into the street, Stacy used the cover of night to make her way away from the jail. Spotting an alley she darted into it and reached into her left pocket, where she put her D-Tector after she put her coat on, and pulled it out. 'Hmm. I think that girl who knocked me over has something to do with the theft. That and that foul, rancid stench. Now that I think about it, both the girl and the odor came from the same direction. Maybe I should return to the scene of the crime, as it were, and get a look around as Hinookamimon. As a digimon my senses are sharper so maybe I have a small chance to pick something up.'
Fractal coding wrapped around her hand once again as she ran her right hand over the top of it and said "Execute! Sprite Spirit Evolution!" again it was as if the spirit understood stealth was still needed as the transformation from before happened again. "Hinookamimon!"
Now as Hinookamimon she sprinted back toward the scene of the crime but only got about halfway before she caught wind of a familiar terrible smell from earlier that day. Only this time, as a digimon, the smell seemed far worse due to her enhanced sense of smell. Her eyes watered as she fought the urge to gag but she followed the scent. As she drew closer, however, the scent began to gradually fade. Yet before the scent was lost completely she spotted the girl from before.
"Hey! You there! Stop!" Hinookamimon said to the girl. Though something about her seemed off. Maybe she was imagining it or maybe it was instinct. She didn't know but she had a feeling she was about to find out.
"Who are you? Want do you want with me?" the unknown girl said with a growl as she turned and faced Hinookamimon, In the girls' hand was a small white sliver of something that glowed brightly in the dark.
"I'm tracking a thief who stole something from a digimon called Babamon." Hinookamimon replied calmly.
"Aren't you a little late for that. I heard some other human female got busted for that." the unknown female said with a smirk.
"That human female was me. As you can see I have a few tricks of my own. However, I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that you are not who or what you seem."
"So you're a spirit wielder, huh? As for my identity, I'm afraid I must keep it to myself."
"I'm also getting a feeling that you are the real thief. After all you were the only one running away from the crime. That and that smell you're still giving off, though faint now, was at the scene as well."
The stranger knew the jig was up then and dashed past Hinookamimon in an attempt to flee.
"Oh no you don't. Sacred Beads!" Hinookamimon's tail transformed into prayer beads and she gently lashed out in an attempt to restrain the stranger without harming her. To her surprise her tail passed through causing the stranger to flicker and the image to fade. "A holosuit? So you're a digimon in disguise."
As the holographic image faded it revealed a surprising sight. The disguised digimon looked like a green slug with googly eyes. "Looks like you found me out. Now I will make you regret it, furball, for I am the master thief Numemon and I will still get away with my ill gotten gains."
Next thing Hinookamimon knew the Numemon spewed a foul smelling gas at her causing her to stumble back covering her nose and gagging. Numemon took that as a chance and slithered away surprisingly fast. Hinookamimon sprinted after her with eyes watering and coughing. The chase continued through out Rustport until Numemon ran into a digimon that looked like an old man with a white mustache and beard. The unknown digimon was carrying a curious looking cane with a paw on top. Numemon noticed that when she crashed into him her loot tumbled from her grip. Hinookamimon skidded to a stop managing to avoid becoming part of the collision.
Numemon looked at the stranger and at her loot then said "A mega digimon. This isn't worth risking my hide for."
Said mega looked at the item dropped by Numemon and said "That's my wife's. What are you doing with it?"
"This digimon stole that from your wife and framed me for it so she could get away with it scot free." Hinookamimon said while Numemon was trying to escape. Moving surprisingly swiftly the unknown digimon used his cane to pin Numemon to the ground.
"How could my dear wife mistake a sweet pup like you for a human? I know her eyes are bad but not that bad." he said sounding confused.
Obviously he would be confused, so Hinookamimon reverted back to her human form.
"Oh you're a spirit wielder. That explains the mix up." he said.
Just then Deputymon came charging down the road obviously aware he was missing one prisoner. Before the deputy could speak, the strange digimon stepped in and explained everything. Stacy heard Deputymon call the stranger Jijimon during the conversation and when things were cleared up, Deputymon took Numemon to the jail.
Thank you for recovering my wife's treasure, young one." Jijimon said. It had been awhile since Stacy was called that and she didn't want to correct him.
"It was no big deal, sir. I would have done that for anyone even if I wasn't facing jail time." Stacy said, humbly.
After Stacy recovered her backpack at the jail, Jijimon invited Stacy to his place to meet his wife. After accepting her gratitude the strange fragment began glowing and Stacy's D-Tector started glowing. It then rose out of her pocket and began to pull the fragment toward it.
"That fragment I had all these years was part of a spirit?" Babamon, who was now wearing contacts, said.
"Not just any spirit but this young lady's." Jijimon said amazed.
"So you don't mind me having it?" Stacy asked as the fragment entered her D-Tector.
"Not at all. It was meant to be yours." Babamon replied.
"Thanks."
The next morning Stacy boarded a Trailmon heading back to the Human World.
