Ugh. This sucked.
It really sucked!
At the moment, Boru was unaware of what bothered him the most about himself. Whether it was him not taking good care of the radar Reiki had given to him to find Katherine, him keeping it after he had already found the girl OR him feeling bad about having lost it and being that guilty to go looking for it all the way down to the Southern Tropics!
He even wished he had never noticed the radar was gone. Yes. He had tried to ignore it for a few days even but, in the end, he was just too scared of Lord Goddramon waking up and going to ask for his radar (a thing that he probably didn't need AT ALL! but Boru was just that paranoid). Maybe he had a big sense of responsibility?
So! Here he was. The Psychemon had followed the trail of this thief all the way to a lonely beach located a few kilometers away from Whitewater City. How had he managed to track her? Well, that was something that he planned to tell her to her face once he found her!
... Which he was quite close to doing. The Pscyhemon spotted a lonely, old and moldy cabin near the shore. "That has to be the place!"
And, with that? He rushed inside.
Was he paranoid? Or could he actually feel he was being watched? The insides of this little hut looked as bad as the place looked from the outside. Needless to say, the chamber was pretty much empty! Only some rag piled up in a corner and a... fountain? There was a fountain inside this hut! The water looked crystal clear from the entrance as it slowly fell from the apex down into the pool of the ornamental structure.
The fountain managed to distract Boru from a second or two, right before a voice brought him back to reality, even startling him a little bit.
"Who dares to enter into my humble abode? Why are you here?"
Although the voice was deep and scary, Boru felt like he knew who this was.
Trying to look the less terrified possible, the Psychemon took a step forward and gulped.
"Y-You don't scare me! I... I came for my radar! Don't think I don't know who you are! You already caused me enough trouble in the past!"
"Y-Your..." The mysterious voice paused her own speech. "Ugh. You've got to be...!"
Suddenly, a BlackGatomon jumped down from one of the murky corners of the roof, right in front of the fountain. Besides having more delicate features than most Gatomons, this dark-toned creature was wearing... a hat. It was a purple hat, very similar to the color of her gloves but with some well-designed white details.
"Aha!" At first, Boru sounded accusing. When observing the BlackGatomon better... "Oh...!" ... He sounded kind of disappointed. "I t-think I have mistaken you for another BlackGatomon I knew."
To the Psychemon's naivety, Viza reacted angrily. "Y-You idiot! This is me!" She revealed, taking off her hat. On retrospective, she probably shouldn't have done that if she could have kept tricking him, right?
"Oh! It's totally you!" Again, he pointed an accusive claw towards the cat. Yes. He had been deceived by a hat. "Why did you steal my radar? That's totally rude!" He continued.
No point in resisting much more, right? Viza's plan had actually failed some days ago already. "Ugh. I thought it would be worth something. But it isn't, you know? No one in the city will pay anything for it!" And she was sadly being honest there. Who would buy a radar that worked for locating a single tamer's digivice and nothing else?
The hatted digimon showed Boru the device while she finished her sentence. She was so not going to give it back to him, though!
After a couple of innocent blinks, Boru frowned. "So it was money what you wanted? Why did you think that was worth anything!?"
A question that went unanswered. Viza was not having any of this! She was out of here!
But... how could she escape this digimon? Well... tricking him, of course. He was a piece of walking naivety, after all, wasn't he?
"Listen! I've got no time for this. I'll give you your radar and you can leave my house already." Her arms crossed, Viza shook her head. There was just no helping it, right? "I'll even make it up to you by granting you ONE wish." She added, lifting one of her claws over those gloves.
"A-A... wish?" Classic Boru. After hearing something like that, his attention had drifted away completely from the fact this was the digimon who had stolen from him. And much less was he even thinking that this was the digimon who almost killed him once! "W-What kind of wish?" Nope. He only cared about wishes now.
A smug grin appeared in Viza's face. She got him right where she wanted. "Of course, silly! Don't you see I'm a witch?" She asked, pointing at the hat on top of her head confidently.
Of course! If she had a hat, she had to be a witch! This BlackGatomon knew magic! (She totally didn't).
An excited grin appeared on Boru's face. "S-So you will grant me any kind of wish!?"
"Of course!" Viza answered, taking some steps to her right and letting Boru see that fountain again. "But... there is one condition. You can't tell me what you want. No. The... The fountain of wishes, yes! It will show me what your heart truly desires so I can give it to you!" Yes. The fountain of wishes. She was totally not making this up so Boru turned his back at her and she could escape. Of course not.
"A-And how does it work!?" Oh god. Boru's eyes were GLOWING here. He was really invested in all of this crap. It was almost... adorable.
"W-Well... You have to... close your eyes and walk towards the fountain. When you open them, the water of the fountain will show me that thing you really want." The cat explained, making things up on the go as she was an expert in doing.
And... just like that? Boru obeyed. No questioning. No doubting. No inquires. A smile on his face, the Psychemon took a deep breath and closed his eyes before he started walking towards the fountain.
In all honesty? Viza froze for a couple of seconds. How could a digimon trust others so easily? Was he just too good? Or too dumb? Maybe... both?
Although she started moving eventually, walking towards the exit, she couldn't help but look at the Psychemon walk all the way towards the fountain with his eyes closed. She was flabbergasted.
She had tried to kill him before, for God's sake! She had stolen from him, lied to him and mistreated him. And there he was, trusting her all over again. This Psychemon trusted other people. He really did. He didn't care how many times he got hurt because of it. He always chose to trust others.
Why? Viza realized Boru was actually... the opposite of herself. The opposite of a digimon who trusted no one, no matter what.
Why? How could they be so different?
Ugh. Why was she even thinking about it? This was stupid. She was tricking him and getting away with it once again. She had him! She just had to run outside the hut through that door and she would never have to see his stupid face again!
Yes! That was exactly what she was going to do! Of course! She was out of here! She was the great Viza. No one could make her change her ways! She was prepared for anything!
... Well, maybe, the great Viza was not prepared for what she heard Boru mutter as he almost reached the fountain.
"A human partner. Please, a human partner"
Was that... his wish?
... She could actually... Yes. Boru was actually wishing for something Viza could maybe grant.
On her way to the door, the Blackgatomon froze again upon hearing this. Had the mischievous Viza found someone capable of touching her sentimentally? Was she... really going to grant his wish!?

Things seemed to be settling down a little in the human world, at least. After dropping some glasses into the sink after company had left, Maia let out a deep breath. It was a really strange feeling, being back after so long! And, perhaps, a relief that her parents weren't home to see it. In fact, anyone that was here couldn't really care less about the development. Aside from the occasional comment about 'dad's toast' from Kuu.
Should the blonde tell him that her dad made toast the same way most people did? With a regular toaster?
No. No point in ruining his excitement.
After cleaning up a bit, the teen moved to the living room, to join the two digimon that were apparently in the middle of something she was definitely not interested in inquiring upon. Ela sat upon the couch, ears stretched as far as they could go, while Kuu tried to pull one of the bunny's ears even further, by his teeth. While they'd been chatting incoherently up until now, upon sight of the tamer, both immediately went silent, and Kuu released his hold, promptly tumbling off the arm of the couch, and thudding to the floor.
"Nothing," he insisted, immediately after. Nothing, indeed. Not that anybody had asked.
"Right," the girl stated, very obviously convinced that the rookies had been doing absolutely nothing prior to her entrance. But, before any antics could begin again, Maia's attention turned to the coffee table. Instinctively, a hand went to her pocket to check for her digivice. Of course, what she was looking at was the wrong color to be her's, anyway. But, something about paranoia, surely, made her double-check.
And then, a bit more concern. "Guys," she drew out the word, slowly, while gesturing to a device on that table, "what's that?"
"A digivice." For a second, the tone was matter-of-fact. And then, Ela's face scrunched, as she looked back to the item, progressive concern drawing over her features. "Uh-oh," yes, uh-oh indeed! "That's a digivice."
Scrambling from the floor, up onto the table, the Kudamon grabbed it between his paws, stuffing his nose to the item. "I think Katherine left it!" Granted, with only one other tamer having recently been in the house, this was a pretty obvious assessment! But, it was better safe than sorry when it came to assumptions like that, right? "Her sniffs are all over it."
Rather than grabbing the digivice from the Kudamon, Maia simply lifted the pipefox by his noodle-y midsection, while pulling on a light jacket to be able to tuck him into. "Are you okay staying here, Ela?"
"I'm good! This couch is pretty comfy!" Maybe Ela would try to get a quick nap in! Surely, nobody else would get home before the tamer did, right?
And, Katherine couldn't have gotten too far. Once shoes were kicked on, the blonde hurried out the door, and began her trip in the direction of the other tamer's home. Pulling out her cell phone -- a weird feeling after having been in a world without reception for so long -- she began to dial in Katherine's number, to let her know that something had been forgotten. Maybe they could meet up somewhere? It would probably make things faster!
But with her being in such a rush, it was undeniable that Maia really needed to pay more attention to where she was walking. Especially, as she was rounding corners!

“So? Is it worth anything?”
“I don’t… think so. This radar’s only function is to track a single digivice. One of those things humans use. It can tell you where said digivice is regardless of its location. It wasn’t working when you brought it, probably because said digivice is not in this world or is somewhere where it can’t be tracked. I did some improvements to it, so now its signal can track the digivice even in those far places. Furthermore, someone with your insertion data skill could even get inside and ‘ride’ the signal to its source. Which means it can physically take you wherever this digivice is located.”
“T-That’s great!”
“Sadly, no one without your ability can do that. I won’t charge you for the improvements I did to it but… I still don’t think anyone is going to buy this, Viza. This item is useless. I’m sorry.”
Ugh.
UGH. UGH. UGH. UGH.
Okay. Yes. So she could probably 'ride' this radar’s signal to physically appear wherever that digivice was. And then she could use her Insertion Data Skill to bring the human who owned this digivice here. Why was she even thinking about that now? Was she really going to grant this Psychemon’s stupid wish?
No! She was out of here! She was really out of here!
…
Ugh.
UGH. UGH. UGH. UGH.
Why did he have to wish for something she, and only she, could grant!?
Fine! She would do it. She was going to bring him his stupid human, throw it in his face and then leave!
Yes! That was it!
Viza took out the radar Boru had come looking for from below her hat, looked at it for a couple of seconds, and then… her body just digitalized into the item! This was the BlackGatomon’s secret technique!
Nothing out of the ordinary. Just a rainy afternoon in Shibuya.
Didn’t it feel like something amazing was about to happen? Like life was just about to change forever?
Nope.
Just another rainy afternoon in Shibuya for Rei Hajime. After almost getting out of the train station, the 19-year-old took his umbrella out of his backpack before he started making his way through the couple of blocks that separated the station from his home. He didn’t trust this old umbrella would shelter him all too well when the rain got more intense, so his pace was quick. Other than that? Nothing out of the ordinary.
As he got out of the station, he almost bumped into a green-eyed, curly-haired girl, who was accompanied by a brunette with long pig-tails and a lady with long, purple hair. Huh. That was a motley squad to see around the streets of Japan.
Around five minutes of walking later, Rei decided to increase the speed of his pacing. Mainly because the strength this rain was falling with increased too. At the moment? He only cared about his backpack being protected from the water. Studying engineering was already hard enough without having your notes all wet!
Yes. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just an afternoon in Shibuya, empty streets, a woman with purple hair going into the station and an unusual downpour.
A downpour that didn’t let him hear the rushed footsteps of someone around the corner where he was about to make a turn!
BUMP.
“Ow…”
That was a hard hit!
Rei even stumbled a couple of steps back as someone bounced against him. As an immediate reflex, he let go of his umbrella to properly extend a hand and avoid this person from falling on their rear but…! He didn’t get there on time. They were probably going to fall.
His umbrella rolling through the desolated street, Rei rushed forward towards this passerby. “I’m sorry.” He immediately apologized as he tried to help this stranger reincorporate. It was then when he noticed this was a blonde-haired, short woman.
Had she dropped something to the floor? She seemed to have her phone out when they bumped but… Apparently, that particular item was safe. Then, what had fallen off her? “Are you okay?” He asked, waiting for her to take his hand to stand up. It would be only when this girl looked back at him that Rei would… freeze.
Yes. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just an afternoon in Shibuya, empty streets, a woman with purple hair going into the station, an unusual downpour and the most beautiful girl Rei's eyes had ever seen.
He was mesmerized. Stunned. Come on, Rei! You have to move!
What could bring him out of his reverie? Well, obviously only something more shocking than this girl’s beauty.
But was there something like that ever to be found? Well, maybe something like the torso of what seemed to be a giant black cat with yellow eyes coming out of that gadget she had dropped. But what were the chances of that happening?
Apparently, quite a lot?
When the corner of his eyes caught a glance of this thing, it was too late. Everything happened too fast. Like, in less than a second, this cat thing had extended gigantic paws with gauntlets (No, I am not kidding!) and pulled them both into that mysterious gadget. For a moment, Rei could feel his body… defragmenting into a million pieces. Of course, he wouldn’t know but… he was being digitized.
Not even a second later, that corner in Shibuya was empty, just like the rest of the streets. Only an umbrella rolling through the road and a strange gadget lying on the ground.
Yes. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just an afternoon in Shibuya, empty streets, a woman with purple hair going into the station, an unusually hard rain, the most beautiful girl Rei’s eyes had ever seen and an interdimensional black cat pulling him into a weird gadget.

It was raining, wasn't it? Maybe, she should have brought an umbrella. A coat wouldn't keep anyone dry for very long. But, there was no time to turn back, either. The item in question was too valuable to keep parted from its owner for too long! The human world wasn't necessarily safe from Digimon, entirely. Even if there were supposedly organizations trying to make it that way. Maia couldn't really trust that sort of thing. And, frankly? Never would.
She'd seen what could happen to a human in the human world. And nobody had helped them until it was too late. Who would guarantee some organization would be able to keep Kath safe, if she couldn't use her digivice? Sure, Kath had more than just Jazz to try to protect her but... Better safe than sorry, in this case, right?
Except, the digivice wouldn't find its owner. And Mai wouldn't finish her call.
With the rain and the rush, and all of her thoughts, she wouldn't have -- couldn't have -- expected to run into someone. Like a cliche from a movie. Except, a bit more painfully.
There was a small squeak from the girl. A muffled 'oof' from her jacket. A loud clatter of plastic from a foreign device crashing upon the sidewalk. The beep of her thumb accidentally pressing the 'disconnect' button on her phone. Boots splashed across a freshly-made puddle, from the absolutely unrefreshing drizzle. An umbrella clattering onto the pavement. And an exasperated sigh from a girl who wanted little more than to go lay in her bed for the first time in far too long.
She had most definitely fallen. And the ground was most definitely wet.
"It's fine," she started, while adjusting herself on the ground. Maia had slid, landing in such a perfect way. And, in perfect, it meant that the left side of her jeans were more soaked than they had previously been from rain, alone. "I'm fine," she added after another second. Placing her phone in her jacket pocket, she looked up and reached out to take the assistance of the stranger. "I should have watched where I was going." Now, would she apologize?
Once to her feet, it might have occurred to her. Might. For now? It did not. It could not. Because suddenly, there was a cat coming out of the device that had fallen. A cat? Not a full cat. Just part of a cat. This was new. Did cats frequently live within digivices? Surely not. Maia did not have a cat living within her Digivice. Should she tell Katherine? Did she already know?
Oh. Right. She hadn't finished her phone call. But, a cat coming out of a digivice felt like a bad time for calls. More-so, a cat that was reaching out its paws to engulf those within sight. And without much thought, the blonde's hand tightened around the strangers, while the other reached up to hug her jacket close. To keep the fox from falling out. To keep her sanity in place. To keep everyone in place.
Because soon, the corner of Shibuya would be empty. Except an umbrella and a digivice, and no meeting of strangers who had just bumped into each other in the most cliche way possible. No words. Just a rainy day, with rainy sidewalks, in a rainy city.
And for some reason? None of this felt particularly strange.

In all honesty, Boru hadn’t even realized he had unconsciously spoken his wish, even if in a whisper. He remained standing there, his eyes closed and making sure he was going to funnel his real desires towards the fountain. Once he felt ready, he opened them and… nothing happened, of course.
Although clean, the water in the fountain only reflected the expectant face of the Psychemon and nothing else. Why? Why wasn’t it showing his true desire?
It was only when he realized the hut had gotten significantly more silent that he decided to turn to ask Viza. “Am I doing something w…?”
There was no one there anymore. Just the radar laying on the floor.
Although he should have been upset by being tricked, at that moment Boru just felt… sad. Slowly, he turned to look at the fountain again.
He was such an idiot, wasn’t he? What did he expect? A human to magically fall from the sky?
Well, he should have. A shade covered the water for a couple of seconds before something splashed against it aggressively. After having dropped two bodies into the fountain, a pair of enlarged paws traveled all the way back into the radar on the floor, going above Boru’s head. At the moment, the Psychemon didn’t even know where to look!
The paws got inside the radar and then… Viza digitized out of it. The BlackGatomon tipped her hat and wrinkled her mouth, looking at Boru. “There they are. Wish granted.” She took a pause while trying to regain her breath. “They looked quite different from one another, so I figured they were two different human species? I decided to bring both. Just pick one, I guess.” For the cat, this seemed like a simple transaction. She didn't really know how did the bond between a tamer and digimon work.
Completely shocked, Boru just turned his head again to look at the beings that the ‘witch’ had dropped into the water. At the moment, he didn’t even care who had granted his wish. He wasn’t even sure if this meant his wish had been granted!
The feeling of warm water around his lower half and the voices echoing around him was what brought Rei back to the conscious world. Although he was never asleep, his senses had ‘turned off’ for a minute or two and it was just now that he was gaining awareness of the environment. Of the people (?) speaking around him. Of the fact he was sitting on a wet surface.
Rei also became aware of the tightened grip around his hand. Since there was not much she would be able to do to stop it, it was likely this girl he had literally bumped into some seconds before had also ended up in the fountain, right next to him.
Instinctively, the brown-haired man began to reincorporate. He let go of the blonde’s hand in order to properly stand up. With the water reaching only his ankles now, his head moved to explore his surroundings. “Are you o…?” Once again, out of instinct, he was about to extend a hand to the female accompanying him. However, these motions came to a halt and he ultimately froze upon gazing at the strange creature that was right in front of the body of water they were occupying.
Rei took a couple of steps back, feeling clearly threatened by the hairy, colorful monster that was staring at them. “C-Careful!” He addressed the woman in a whisper. It was only as the seconds ticked that he started realizing he couldn’t actually tell what type of animal this was. He had never seen anything like it before. Never.
“What is… that thing?” He unconsciously raised his voice a little. His heartbeat was raising and he was getting progressively more nervous as the situation became harder to understand.
Portraying Rei like this brave hero, willing to prioritize everyone but himself would be too idealistic. The truth was that his head was currently trying to fight the instinct of just running away. Mainly for two reasons. One: that would mean leaving a poor girl who he believed to be as lost as him behind. And two: He didn’t know if making any sudden moves could turn this monster aggressive. In the end, the little regard he held for his own life was helping Rei think clearly and take things as slowly as he could.
The sensation of fear spreading all over Rei's body increased for a second to then abruptly decrease when this thing opened its mouth and… talked.
“Humans. Did you bring them!?” Boru was not very bright, but he wasn’t blind! He had seen Viza’s paws drop the humans in the fountain.
Rei gasped.
“It can talk.”
Suddenly, another voice echoed around the hut. Rei then noticed a creature that looked less menacing, a smaller version of the monster that had kidnapped them. It was standing some meters behind the pelted being staring at them.
“Whatever. Just pick your favorite or something.” Viza was panting, taking a minute or two to recover from what she had just pulled. Using her data insertion skill definitely demanded a lot of energy sometimes!
Evidently, Rei’s head was a mess right now. Maybe Maia could empathize with a newcomer to this world and try to help him keep his sanity. Or maybe she was just pissed she had gotten even wetter now. Not like she couldn't engage in both things.

Yes, none of this was surprising at all. The only part that even felt remotely startling was being dropped into water. And now, Maia's clothes were more soaked than previously. One hand was lifted up, keeping her cellphone from becoming submerged. "Goodbye, cell service," the teen uttered, somberly. So close, but so far. And now, she definitely couldn't call Kath!
Instead, she was doomed to be drippy, and stuck in a fountain, with a guy who was becoming progressively more obviously not associated with Digimon. But, now that the concern of being grabbed by a cat torso had diminished, there was no point in holding onto the stranger's hand. So, when he went to untangle himself, she gave zero resistance. Not that she really had a a reason to, in the first place. She didn't know this guy. And had no reason to leash him to her, especially!
And, watching his reaction to seeing Digimon, she was fairly glad that she didn't want much to do with him. "Well, that's a lizard-dog," she commented, a lot less quietly than the 'gentleman' that she had found herself with. Standing up, without any assistance, the blonde began to wring out the bottom of her shirt to the best of her ability. Were Psychemons really lizard-dogs? No. But it sounded a bit more friendly than, 'this is what happens when a lizard steals a wolf's skin and wears it.' Which, was basically her understanding of most of the Gabumon family. "And, that's a cat," she added after another second, while making a gesture to the BlackGatomon. "They're pretty harmless." Harmless? Things with clawed gloves, and big horns?
Surprisingly, yes. And from the conversation she was picking up from the duo, her assessment was pretty accurate. After wringing the shirt out to the best of her ability, the blonde scrunched her nose at her pants, which certainly couldn't have the water removed nearly as easily. So, she settled for awkwardly giving her thighs a small pat, and then looking around the hut. "Is there a closet here, that I can use to change in?" Of course the girl had spare clothes! But, she definitely wasn't going to switch outfits out here!
"Yeah. They talk. Just about everything here does," she added after another moment. A crooked smile slipped onto her lips, while glancing at the man that she was with. Blue eyes squinted a little. Either in pity or concern, it was hard to tell. Was he going to crack? Well, he probably already thought he had!
And that wouldn't be helped when the blonde's jacket began to talk! "Ooh, it's been a long time since we've done this!" Or, no. Wait. It wasn't the jacket. Something was inside the jacket! A white head, with yellow eyes poked out from the collar, peering around the room, only to settle on Boru. "Sorry, can't pick this one. She's mine. Called dibs." Dibs. Yes. That was it.
"I totally dropped Katherine's digivice though. Anyone pick it up b'fore we got here?" Well, that was said pretty casually, considering the gravity of the statement!
For a second, his tamer paused. "You didn't."
"I mean, I didn't mean to! But you had to go runnin' into people, and I don't have thumbs. No thumbs, Mai. I can't handle that kind of pressure! I can't handle most stuff!" Maybe, Maia should have warned the newbie that not only did the creatures talk, but it seemed like most of them talked a lot. "Cut your thumbs off for a day, and see how easy it is!"
Judging from the pursed lips of the teen, she wasn't going to bother telling her partner that thumbs didn't grow back on humans. Especially not fully functional ones, and definitely not within a single day. Maybe, the Kudamon would fit in just fine with the group of Digimon they were currently stuck with. "So! Is this how digimon are picking their partners these days?" At least Kuu wasn't going to let there be any silence! None. Not at all! "How's it work? Where d'you get the digivice?" Then, there was the tiniest of pauses, just long enough for the fox to peer at the other human in the hut. "Unless you already got it! It's chunky and kind'a plasticy, tastes pretty plasticy, and it beeps sometimes! But it's totally not a phone. Or edible. Sound familiar?" Based on that description alone, hopefully not.

Post by Rei and Boru! on Apr 18, 2020 15:25:13 GMT
For some reason, this lady seemed absolutely unfazed at the strange creatures they had encountered. She didn’t even seem to be too shocked at the fact they were occupying an entirely different place just some seconds ago until that cat had brought them here. The mixture of sheer desperation and calm that this fact brought to Rei was honestly hard to put into words.
While listening to her try to explain what these monsters were in a bland manner, the brown-haired man just went to look again at the two creatures. Then, his eyes went back to her. “What the hell is a lizard-dog? And that doesn’t look like a cat at all!” He whispered intensively again. Everyone could hear him though. “Harmless? I had never seen anything like those things.”
What was going on? Why did this girl seem so calm around these monsters? And why was it normal they talked? How could it be her only concern was finding a closet right now?
While Rei went through the much-necessary phase of 'this is probably a dream and now that I realized it is I’m going to wake up', Boru tilted his head while looking at Maia. There was a digimon somewhere around her body. He didn’t need to be too bright to know this girl knew what digimon were, though.
Naturally, the blonde’s question wasn’t met with an answer. Instead, Boru just jumped back a little upon seeing this over-energetic Kudamon come out of the girl’s coat. It wasn’t like he was actually going to pick someone! After all, judging by that human’s reaction, he seemed to have no idea of what was going on!
“I-I-I’m sorry!” The Psychemon bowed his head. “I didn’t mean this to…” He interrupted himself to look at the cat behind him. “W-Where did you find these humans!?”
Although she had managed to say a couple of things before, for the time being, Viza was just panting. Slowly, she decided to sit on the floor. Ugh, her Data Insertion skill was sure exhausting, especially if she used it to transport other beings besides herself. After taking a look at Boru, she delivered an answer.
"I told you... I'm a witch." She once again pointed at her hat. Meanwhile, the radar remained next to her.
Boru's attention went back to the conversation between Mai and Kuu as soon as a familiar name was mentioned. "D-Did you say Katherine?" The Psychemon walked inside the pond of the fountain and approached the pair. "Do you know her?" They said 'Katherine' and 'digivice', they had to be talking about his sister's tamer!
"... T-There's another talking thing!" Getting out of his reverie, Rei pointed an accusing finger to Kuu. Okay, so this wasn't a dream. He was almost sure because he had realized it was probably one and hadn't woken up. Now, the phase of trying to actually understand what was happening started.
... This one talked a lot, though. So that could be a bit harder than expected.
However, it was probably Kuu's attitude, which seemed very joyful overall friendly, that made Rei not get absolutely terrified when this thing approached him.
And, while he did listen to Kuu as he spoke, he couldn't help but let out some words quietly. His eyes remained widened and going all over the Kudamon.
"A talking ferret..."
It was only when the digimon finished talking (temporarily) that Rei tried to answer his question. A small pause and some thinking after, he let out what he felt could be some type of logical response after hearing this very odd description.
Something made of plastic that wasn't a cellphone...
"Oh." Rei's eyes trailed towards Kuu's tamer. "She had one of those. And she dropped it." Was this some type of answer? It probably meant no, he didn't have a digivice himself.
"Hey..." Time for him to squeeze a question in before this thing kept bombing him with words! "... What are you... E-Exactly?" Could maybe Kuu explain what Digimons were in a way a human could understand? Probably not. But it would definitely be fun to see him try!
... Probably not fun for Rei though.
Boru, on his side, pulled softly from Maia's shirt to get her attention. Once he had it, he issued a question quietly. "E-Excuse me, miss... Is Katherine okay?"
Maybe it was a good time for Maia to message Katherine through her D-Terminal and tell her her digivice was laying on the ground in some corner of Shibuya.
It would take a while for her to reply though. You know, time curvature and all of that.

Well, apparently it wasn't very convincing to try to rationalize what these 'animals' were. Maia could at least say she tried! What was a lizard-dog, then? Blatantly pointing at Boru, the blonde stated in the most deadpan voice she could muster, "that." Very helpful! Digimon 101 expert right here, folks! Was she just answering like this to make the poor guy even more confused? "How does that not look like a cat, though? The tail? Ears? Face? It's a cat." She definitely wasn't going to point out gloves didn't really belong on cats. Cats could wear gloves if they wanted to. Who was she to judge?
Unlike her new 'friend' here, Maia wasn't even trying to hush her voice. Did Rei realize how loud he was being?
"I mean, they're harmless unless you fall on top of his head," she added, with a gesture to Boru's horn. Was it rude to keep pointing at the doglizard? Probably. But he didn't look like the type to be easily offended. Not that she knew this Digimon in the slightest! He sure didn't seem grumpy, though! More confused than anything, maybe? Hopefully, the teen wasn't misreading the situation.
"Is that a 'no' on the closet?" It seemed like it was.
Oh well. Hopefully her request had just been ignored temporarily. Wet pants were the worst. Apparently, the not-Gabumon didn't mind getting wet as much. Maybe it's because he didn't really have pants. "Sort of," the girl would answer to the innocent-looking horned monster. "I met a Katherine today," and for once, she sounded a little thoughtful! Hopefully, she wouldn't be instilling hope that this was the same exact Katherine the Psychemon knew. Katherine was a common name! ...Though, perhaps not in Japan.
At least the blonde wasn't going to have to balance two conversations at once. Because Kuu was more than capable of talking for himself! "Duh!" Of course he was a talking thing! But a ferret?
Slithering out from the jacket collar, the rookie perched on his human's shoulder, while leaning out toward Rei. "Excuse you," he started, in a very know-it-all tone, "I'll have you know that Maia says I am a pipe fox, not a ferret. And she's never wrong about this stuff!" Totally never wrong. Just like how Boru was a lizard-dog. "It's super rude to call a fox a ferret!" Then, there was a pause while he tried to cross his 'arms,' and puffed his cheeks. "I accept apologies in the form of candies, by the way." Did Rei have candy? Could he ever get Kuu to forgive him if he didn't?
Honestly, Kuu probably wasn't going to remember this offense in five minutes, anyway! It wasn't actually important!
"I didn't drop it. Kuu was holding it," the teen mumbled, while pulling her D-Terminal out. But, feeling the tug, she turned her attention to Boru. "Just one second, okay?" She asked, while shooting a message off as quickly as she could, to let Katherine know of the situation and that she should probably go to find the digivice before anyone could pick it up. Hopefully, she'd catch her in time! Especially since time was a questionable thing between the worlds!
And once that was done, the girl would crouch to be at eye-level with Boru. What did this mean for the conversation between Kuu and Rei? Well, Kuu wasn't going to expect this guy to kneel to talk to him. So, what was the best solution?
To try to give Rei a heart attack, of course.
The fox leapt off his tamer's shoulder, aiming to land on Rei's! If he managed to get any part of the young man's clothes, he'd clamber up to the shoulder one way or another! And if he outright missed? The fox would totally pretend it was intentional, and just float at eye level with Rei! Because that wouldn't be a different sort of alarming, right?
"I'm a Kudamon," he stated, bluntly, then a lot more rapidly added, "but if you're asking what all the non-humans in the room are, we're Digimon! Digital! Monsters!" Then, a small pause to inhale. Rei, what did you do by asking Kuu of all 'people' to answer your questions? "But not like the monsters under your bed. Those probably aren't real and if they are, they're like a totally different thing. Because a lot of us are nice and civilized and everyone knows that living under a bed isn't actually very comfortable, you know? Have you ever tried to live under a bed? It's like--"
"Kuu."
Oh. Right. That wasn't the question at all! "We're things that turn into other things. And like cookies. I haven't met a single Digimon who hasn't enjoyed cookies." Facts! If allowed, the pipefox would lean closer to Rei's ear, to whisper loudly, "did I answer good?" He couldn't let anyone hear that he wasn't sure if that was the answer Rei was looking for! Except, his whisper volume was about on-par with the strange human's, which meant anyone could hear him.
After she'd gotten Kuu to stop before he went into a true tangent about under-the-bed-living, Maia could place her focus onto Boru. "The Katherine I met was just fine," she confirmed, only to counter the question with, "are you worried about her?"

“K-Kuda… Gitsune?” Rei stuttered upon the mentioning of a Pipe Fox. His dad had a scroll back in Nagano about those. Was this thing some type of spirit or mythical creature? In what kind of realm had he entered? He wasn’t the most skeptical person in the world, nor was he a believer in these types of things. It was probably for the best he was in the middle ground about these types of matters. It helped him be nor devoted to this situation neither in denial.
It did seem like he had offended this ancient creature, though. “I-I’m sorry… I didn’t even know your species… existed.” And that was the most honest form of apology he could muster! Why in the world would he think this was a Pipe Fox in the first place? That did explain the talking a little bit, though.
“So you’re a Pipe Fox who likes candies. Huh.” He should write that down somewhere around the back of his head. “I don’t have the bag of candies I carry with me everywhere right now, though." Mainly because said bag didn't exist.
While it was true Kuu was not being extremely helpful, Maia’s description of what these things were had not been the most useful thing in the world either so… it seemed like Rei was willing to take the chance with the Kudamon.
“Whoa… whoa… wait!” Not that he was prepared for this thing to jump on him though! Although quite scared and wiggling at first, eventually Rei’s brain seemed to be understanding this thing was not a threat. The huge, shiny eyes and the kid-like voice helped on that, too.
His eyes widening, trying to look at the monster over his shoulder, Rei traced the name of its species with his own lips. “Kuda…mon.” Like Kuda-Gitsune? “So all of these… creatures… are Digimon?” Digital Monsters, huh? Slowly trying to get used to their appearance, Rei glanced around the whole room again. By now, Maia was already crouching to talk to lizard-dog from up close. She seemed absolutely unfretted by that thing. And… why would she? She had her own monster!
“I did try to live under my bed once when I was a kid. I was angry about my parents letting my little sister eat more dessert and…” Oh. The blonde had taken care of interrupting that little and completely useless talk they had going on there. If he was already rambling with this thing, it probably meant he was getting adapted to whatever was going on here!
Nice and civilized huh? Well, it seemed like they were. Without knowing, Kuu was actually helping Rei feel more comfortable in this situation, by over-exposing himself as a friendly being, mainly.
Okay! So these are Digital Monster. Why not test his luck with another question? “And where… are we, exactly?” This time, the brown-haired human observed the insides of the house they were in right now. “How come it feels like… Maia, right?”… He made a little pause to make sure he had gotten that name correctly before. “… and I were in Shibuya just some moments ago and now we’re… here. Did we enter some type of alternate dimension or something?” This all sounded so unearthly but… at the same time, he didn’t have any other choice but keep looking for answers!
Boru, on his side, also had his own questions. He was naturally touched by Maia actually crouching to talk to him, paying him attention. Not to say he was a bit nervous about that, too.
It should probably go without saying that Boru had no idea of the possibility of different people having the same name in the Human World. He had never been there and didn’t know much about how it worked! Luckily, he didn’t have much room to be wrong about this Katherine. There probably weren’t many Katherine’s that were related to digimon anyway!
“Y-Yes. Huh…” The Psychemon took a timid pause while his eyes trailed down. “… When I met her, she had also lost her digivice. W-Well… more like I stole it from her…” That last part was said in a quite audible mutter. “… B-But that’s long past us. We’re great friends. Jazz, her digimon partner, is actually my sister.” And that was true! Boru was unable to lie, anyway. “… Just… “ A sigh interrupted his next sentence now. “… C-could you let me know if she finds her digivice?”
For a moment, Boru seemed set on walking away. However, he suddenly decided to say something else! “It’s just that…" He now glanced at Rei, who was still interacting with Kuu. “… I don’t want to cause trouble for another human again as I did with Katherine. And It’s my fault you two are here. I… didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“Well, you shouldn’t have made that wish then.” Right in front of the fountain, Viza stood with her arms folded, still panting a little bit and with that hat still on her head. “By the way, you can change behind the hut, if you want. No one will see you there.” The cat directed her eyes to Maia for a moment to deliver the long-awaited answer.
“I-I didn’t know you were just going to steal them from the Human World!” Boru contested to the cat’s accusation, frowning and turning towards her.
“Well, how did you expect this was going to work?”
“I-I don’t know …! I guess… magic…?” Out of sheer embarrassment, the Psychemon made another pause. He was really expecting a fountain to magically bring him a human some moments ago, yes. “G-Get them back to their world, please!”
The cat shook her head. “Nu-huh. Can’t do. Once I use my Data Insertion skill, everyone and everything that has gone through it is unable to open a digital gate or digitally travel anywhere for 24 Digital World hours, including myself, of course. Not only I can’t use my skill, but these people also can’t get back home even if they have a way of opening a portal by themselves. Their digital structure will be unstable for a day, which means their bodies are unable to digitally travel by any means.”
… And that dropped like a bucket of cold water.

"You got it!" Success! The stranger knew what a Kuda-Gitsune was! There was hope for him yet! And, he even had a pretty sincere sounding apology, to boot! Could Kuu stay mad at someone like that? Well, maybe. If he had ever actually been mad to begin with!
The idea of someone not bringing their bag of candy with them at all times was pretty horrifying, though! The fox gave a long, pensive hum, while turning his nose up and narrowing his eyes. "No candy, huh?" It wasn't like there was much to be done about it now. "I guess it's excusable. But only if you give me some next time you have your candy bag!" Poor Kuu. He was never getting candy off this guy.
There would be no 'wait' when it came to mid-air acrobatics, however! In actuality, Kuu definitely could have waited! But, he greatly enjoyed pretending that he couldn't float. So, the launch would happen, and the landing would be a surprising success! More progress with the strange guy, if Kuu had any say! Kuu would surely find a way to wriggle into the hearts of everyone he met! It was his life goal! Or, perhaps more accurately, his thirty-second-goal. The Kudamon had far too many random goals to actually keep count! But once the explanation had gone underway, he'd be too focused on discussing Digimon-and-things to even worry about something like goals!
"Yep! We're all Digimon! But, that's a really broad name!" Considering a pipefox, a lizarddog, and a cat could all fall under the same category? Definitely. "More specific'ly, he started, with a hushed tone, as if this was some huge secret. "That's a BlackGatomon, and that's," he paused, leaning and bobbing in various ways to peek at Boru better. "Hey! What're you? A," the rookie squinted, "Psychemon?" Once confirmed (or denied), the fox would give a shrug, and add, "I'm real bad at remembering who's who." Only certain people and 'mons got the privilege! Plus, Pyschemons weren't particularly common!
This strange guy only got more bonus points, when he actually paid attention to Kuu's ramble and then added in his own story of understanding! Maybe, they could become good friends! It was rather unfortunate that Maia didn't let the conversation continue. Surely, she had meant to save Rei, but he apparently didn't need the help!
Onto the next questions, then! Kuu thought he was doing pretty good at this! "We're in the Digital World! It's pretty easy to remember. Most things start with digi. Digimon, Digi-tal World. Digivice. You see a trend? I think it's weird. But whatever," he rambled. But as far as moving from Shibuya to this place? Well...
The fox would give an affirmative nod at the guy establishing his tamer's name, then provided his own input. "Yeah, I don't got much for that," he admitted, bluntly. "We were totally in Shibuya! But then the cat grabbed us with some weird portal-travel-stuff, I think," he attempted to explain. "I don't think portals us'ally work that way, but I guess they do now." Viza was more than welcome to give some input, if she had the energy! "The whole 'what is the Digital World' thing's a super deep question, though, and I don't really have answers for that. Mostly cause some people say it's a dimension, but it's a world, but it's a place you can go on a train, but what are portals, you know?" No. No, nobody probably knew. Kuu sure didn't.
"I met a guy once who thought we were inside a computer. Can you believe that?" Some people had some pretty interesting theories! Either way, it was clear that Kuu had never investigated this question in-depth.
Maia, meanwhile, was having her important moment with Boru, and had lost focus on what her partner was babbling about. An eyebrow raised at the Psychemon's story. It didn't seem like it was fake. Maybe because Boru didn't seem like he was the lying type. Or, maybe because not many digimon would openly admit to stealing a digivice while talking to another tamer. "Yeah, I'll let you know." It wasn't like it would be easy to hide when she checked her D-Terminal anyway!
Did the strange Psychemon come off as a bit depressed? Maybe it was just poor self-esteem, but Maia couldn't help but suspect it. "I'm sure you didn't mean any harm by it," she added, reaching out to try to give Boru a small pat on the head. Partially to comfort him. Partially because she really couldn't help it. Psychemon pelts looked super soft, after all!
As soon as she was given an idea of where she could change, though, she'd stand up, give a small stretch, and then step out of the fountain. "Thanks," she mumbled to the cat that was entirely at fault for her needing to change. But, as she reached the door to the hut, she paused, obviously having listened to the entirety of the exchange between the two Digimon that were the problems here. "Wait," she uttered, turning back around. "A day?" Yes. That would be 24 hours, wouldn't it? "There's a Terriermon sitting in my parents' house right now. They'll be home before we get there."
"Maybe you should ask Katherine to go back and tell Ela to hide!" Yes, let's make Katherine do more things because of this! It surely was no inconvenience. Surely. "Good thing Ela won't really be waitin' a whole day, huh?"
That still wasn't very reassuring! The blonde pinched the bridge of her nose for a moment, stating, "I just need to change," before exiting the hut. Surely, once she stepped out back, she'd send the request to Katherine anyway, with several apologies lacing the message. It wasn't like Kath needed to take Ela anywhere! Just... tell her to go to Maia's room and not make loud sounds or do science in it while people were home! Hopefully it wasn't too inconvenient for the other tamer!
While Maia was off doing her thing, Kuu was left unattended. Which meant! Well, actually, it meant absolutely nothing. Kuu didn't have a whole lot he could get into right now! So instead, he shuffled across Rei's shoulder, behind his neck, and onto the other shoulder. "So! You wanna hang out til tomorrow with us? It'll be fun! We can get snacks and tell scary stories and," there was a pause, "actually, I don't really know where we are," he admitted a few seconds later. Were they someplace where they could do all those things?
Whatever. Kuu didn't care. Invitation was still up! "You two are invited too! Maybe the cat-in-the-hat," no, Kuu, "can magic up snacks! And a Digivice for this guy!" Then, there was another pause. "I mean, unless you guys didn't want humans for partnering, and actually steal people to eat them. Then you're not invited." Important clarification! But, it was pretty obvious what had been going on here! In some way or another. Kuu wasn't really sure the logic behind it, but he was rarely sure of the logic behind anything. So it was fine!
Only shortly after this was announced by the little fox, his tamer would return. Luckily, changing clothes didn't take very long! Considering the weather, she had switched into a black short-sleeved dress, which almost looked like a sweatshirt, considering it had a hood attached to it! And in one hand, she had a fluffy towel, which was held out as she approached Rei. Of course, he'd have to either walk to the edge, or get out, of the fountain in order to acquire it. Maia wasn't willing to risk needing a clothing change again! "I don't think have anything that will fit you, so this is the best we've got," she commented, while waiting to hand the towel off to him. It did, definitely, make sense that she wouldn't have clothes to fit someone of Rei's size! At least it was nice that she had implied that she looked, right?
But beyond offering a way to try to dry off, Maia didn't seem to have much more input on anything for the moment. Maybe she was still trying to figure out what should be done! It wasn't like being in the Digital World was anything new to her, but the poor guy who got dragged here was probably going to have a long day ahead of him!

There was something about Kuu’s attitude that made Rei take the candy situation seriously for a moment. Or at least… to act like he was taking it seriously, at least. It sounded like the Kudamon couldn’t quite cope with the idea of someone having a candy bag and not taking it everywhere. Which totally fit what the brown-haired human knew of his personality so far, to be honest.
Boru did give Kuu the confirmation he needed; only briefly interrupting his chat with Maia to answer timidly. “The name of the species all end in… mon.” Rei blinked twice, once again taking a good look at all the creatures, some from very afar and some from up close, like Kuu. Could he memorize all of those names!? Hopefully, he wouldn’t have to. “I bet I’d be bad at it too if I had to remember all of that. How many species of you are there, even?” Well, at least the flow of the conversation had brought him to another logical question.
Like a little kid, Rei just repeated what the monster said in order to try to engrave this information on his head. “The Digital World…” So this was definitely some type of parallel dimension or universe. “I can’t believe these types of things actually exist.” It seemed like all of those people from science fiction movies and weird documentaries weren’t all that crazy! Again, assuming Rei wasn’t the crazy one and was just hallucinating all of this.
Wait… you could go there on a train!? It was probably for the best if he didn’t focus too much on the monster’s rambling for the time being. Otherwise, he would only get more confused. “I figured this was somehow her fault.” Rei muttered looking at Viza. Why ‘her’? Well, although it was hard to explain, this 'BlackGatomon' talked and moved like a female cat… if that made any sense. “After all, she was the last thing I saw before we appeared here.”
All of this conversation developed while the two of them looked at Viza approach Boru and Maia.
The Psychemon, on his end, blushed a little upon feeling the blonde’s hand over his pelt. This made a memory flash inside his head, reminiscing the first time Katherine had pet him. There was something about human’s warm gestures that made him feel very happy. Something that he was probably never going to decipher or… replicate by himself.
“T-Thank you.” Boru showed a timid smile to Mai while she stood up, once Viza had interrupted their little chat.
“No! There has to be a way to get them back!” Boru seemed fairly worried about being at fault for these humans to stay here for a whole day!
Rei did wonder what Kuu could mean by saying this Terriermon wouldn't have to wait for a whole day. Although he wasn't actually going to voice his doubt, the answer to this question was related to the time curvature, the thing that would cause Katherine’s response to take a while before reaching Maia. Not like the blonde and her squad could do a lot more than waiting for her message now. If anything, it was likely only a couple of minutes had gone by in the Human World since they left.
While Boru talked to Viza, insisting there had to be a way for these humans to be able to go back home before a whole day went by, Rei only wondered why Kuu wanted them to tell scary stories, of all types of stories you could tell. He had definitely gotten enough scary stuff for a day with all of this happening to him, so why not happy stories?
The Kudamon addressing them interrupted the small argument between cat and lizard-dog. They both turned their heads at the same time to look at Rei and Kuu. “S-She can't actually do magic.” Yes, Boru was totally sure of that now! For sure!
“Of course I can! I can magic-up the best snacks.” Viza noted, folding one of her arms and tipping her witch hat with a smug expression.
“C-Can you stop lying to people!?”
Ignoring the Psychemon, Viza just went ahead to tackle Kuu's next piece of input. “I mean, I am totally fine by myself. He was the one who asked for a partner.” She pointed her ‘thumb’ to Boru, keeping that smug expression. “So... considering you already have a human, then the right one for him would be…”
Maia going back into the hut interrupted Viza's matchmaking. Slowly, Rei seemed to be getting a grasp of the reason why the cat witch had brought them here. That little lizard-dog had asked for them to come, somehow?
By now, Rei and the rest of the group had already walked out of the fountain. This didn’t mean getting the towel from Maia would be a lot easier, though. For a whole two seconds, the man’s eyes just remained widen, while he stared at the blonde extending that towel to him. “T-Thank you.” He timidly muttered once he finally complied and grabbed the item. There was something about this girl that was just making him very nervous, definitely a whole lot more than how he usually was around people.
“Don’t worry about it.” He dismissed Maia’s clarification while looking at the sunrays going through the holes in the ceiling. “I can feel it’s hot outside, so I’ll probably dry up quickly.” Was that a weird thing to say? Ugh, hopefully not! “Where are we anyway, some type of beach?” For a while, he had been able to hear the sound of the waves crashing against the shoreline so… he figured that was the case. Having been outside, Maia could actually confirm that was the case! It was likely she had even been able to spot Whitewater City in the distance.
This constant, very relaxing sound, was suddenly shadowed by the sound of a deep, crispy voice. “Oh, Viiiiiza.” Several steps could be heard outside, someone –probably a group, even- was walking over the sand, approaching the hut.
The Blackgatomon flinched for a moment, her eyes widening. “Crap. Not now.” She muttered while the sounds coming from the outside made evident these beings were approaching their abode. “You need to get out of here.” She noted, looking at the whole group with a fairly distressed countenance.
“W-What’s going on?”
Not like this hut had any back door though! And not like they had the means or the time to react to this!
A single stomp on the house’s wooden door busted it wide open. The sunlight from the outside made the entrance cast a shadow on the newcomers, them becoming visible only when they fully entered the place.
Whoever knew enough about digimon species (definitely not Rei) would be able to identify the five creatures that had entered the hut as four Kiwimons and a Footmon.
“There you are.” The tall, humanoid-like cyborg digimon, who seemed to be leading the group, showed a cynic smirk while looking around the place, his eyes stopping over Viza.
“H-Hello… Rodney.” The cat replied timidly. Suddenly, her over-confident, smug attitude seemed to have taken a full turn. She didn’t seem scared, just… very uncomfortable.
Teasing the ‘witch’, Rodney’s smirk got a bit wider. “What’s wrong? You look like you just saw a monster. Or... could it be you’re already aware of what day it is?” Without expecting any type of answer, the Footmon’s attention drifted towards the rest of the people inside the hut. At first, he seemed a bit shocked about the appearance of some of these beings. “Oh my. One of the Kiwimon said he had seen a human entering this place but… I didn’t think it was true. You actually have humans with you in here, Viza!”
The whole group stared at Rei and Maia for a moment, with Rodney addressing the Blackgatomon again without taking his eyes away from the pair. “I’ve been looking for one of these for a while. Where did you get these?”
“… I-It was a... misunderstanding.” Viza’s eyes shifted towards the human pair and then back to Rodney. Her voice seemed about to break. What type of relationship did she have with this intimidating guy?
Suddenly, the situation had gotten a lot tenser. Rei was back to being scared and his head was back to being full of questions.

Rei was pretty quick to point out something about all this information, that Kuu had forgotten! The endings of their names! "Oh! Yeah! They always do! Never met a proper Digimon that doesn't end in mon!" True facts! "Oh! Except," then, there was a harsh stop in the statement, before slowly shaking his head and beginning to mumble. "Wait no, I don't think those are actually digimon. Nevermind!" So much for that! It was probably too soon to drop anomalies onto the new guy, anyway.
As far as how many species were there? "Oh, there are a ton!" For a moment, the digimon bobbed his head, while mumbling numbers. "I'd guess about two thousand!" Did that number seem a little ridiculous? Was Kuu actually pulling it from somewhere? It was really hard to say! "I mean, you gotta consider that there are variants to a lotta species, and then it seems like new species are found every few months! So it's hard to put a paw on a real number!" Then, more chipper, the Kudamon decided to further elaborate with, "there are some Kudamons that have four legs instead of two! Can you believe that? So weird!" Were they better off than Kuu, who was stuck with just front legs? It was hard to say!
"I'm so not gonna try to list all the 'mons, though." Important clarification! That would take forever!
"Lotta stuff exists that people don't think about!" He added, with a firm nod. After all, it wasn't like humans had even scratched the surface of their own world! Let alone the Digital one!
After talking with Boru (and successful head-patting), Mai excused herself to change and message Kath. Meanwhile, the rest of the group could make plans for the day! And night! And remainder of the next day! It was almost a shame that Rei didn't want to question anything about scary stories. Surely Kuu would have had great logic. But instead, he would stick with the banter about if the cat was truly magical. "But I really want her to magic-up snacks," the round-eyed fox stated, hopefully.
Snacks weren't really the priority here, sadly! Viza was already back to the partnering thing, and Kuu would have totally been on board to try to help out! But, Mai had to ruin things like usual. Even if this time, it was just because she had walked back inside!
Once she had offered the towel, the girl found herself waiting for longer than expected for the offering to be taken. Did this guy have an aversion to towels? She'd probably never know. But at least he took it after a few seconds! "Yeah. I could see some of a city, outside. If it's the one I think it is, we're in the Southern Tropics." What a fun place to be stranded for a day!
"We can go swimming!"
"The fountain wasn't enough?"
Of course it wasn't!
With the atmosphere beginning to shift in a less than ideal direction, the tamer moved to stand in front of Rei a little further, as if trying to put herself between him and anyone that was entering the hut, while turning toward the door.
"Where are we s'posed to go?" Kuu asked the most obvious question possible. There wasn't really a place to leave! And, since that was fairly obvious, the Kudamon adjusted his posture to no longer wrap around the back of Rei's neck, and only rested his paws on the man's shoulders. As the group entered, he'd mumble quietly to the human, "Kiwimon and," he hesitated, adding just as hushed, "I don't know the big guy, but probably a dumb species name if he's goin' by Rodney." Of all things, Rodney? Really? Who picked a name like that?
Maia's hand rested in her pocket, fingers on her digivice in the case she needed to use it. But, hopefully it wouldn't come to that. They'd already ruined Ela's house today, and she didn't really want to add Viza's hut to the day's list of collateral damage! But, for now, she kept quiet.
Especially since for now, it wasn't really the tamer's business. Hopefully, Rei wouldn't find a way to make this situation get any worse than where it seemed to already be leading!

Although he was aware that understanding the current situation properly was impossible for him (mainly because he still hadn’t gotten the situation developing right before entirely), Rei was aware there was some type of tension in the environment. Maia stepping forward went to show she could be worried about this group’s intentions. Did she want to protect him, knowing he had no digimon? More so, was Kuu able to do anything at all to preserve his integrity against these things?
Well, having an outer-world monster on your side was better than having none, right? With her mentioning the name of the zone where they could be (which actually meant nothing to Rei himself) Maia had proven she knew her way around this world. If she was confident enough to step in front, it meant she (and possibly Kuu) had a way of reacting properly if things went south. Again, none of this made her attitude less brave. Why was this extremely beautiful girl forced to protect him in this situation? What was this feeling going through him? Was he... frustrated?
“Got it.” Rei whispered after Kuu told him the name of the armless things spread around the tall guy. Although for a second he had considered their leader could be human, the pipe-fox seemed to be pretty sure this was a digimon, even if he didn’t know the name of his species. That was probably a good thing, considering a human walking around dressed like that would be ridiculous, probably even for this world.
By the time being, the exchange between Rodney and Viza continued to develop into a war of subtitle words. There was something happening between these two. But what was it?
“A misunderstanding huh? Well, well…” Rodney walked around the hut while taking a good look at the pair of humans. “… I wish I were as lucky. I’ve been looking for one of these for quite a while. I’ve heard they can make us digimon pretty strong with their digivices and their strange powers.”
Boru flinched upon hearing this. The Psychemon seemed to be quite nervous about this guy’s presence too. Did he have a bad feeling? Not like anyone else didn’t, honestly.
“Who knows…” Rodney continued. “… Maybe I’ll dedicate myself to finding one of these once I sell that stupid casino in my territory.” While the Kiwimon’s giggled, the Footmon walked back slowly towards the Blackgatomon. Then, he crouched and got his face very close to Viza, who still seemed extremely uncomfortable. “The thing is… will I be selling it to you, Viza?” He wondered.
The false witch’s yellow eyes moved nervously, like running away from the threat this digimon represented. “T-Things… happened.” She explained timidly. “I… I don’t have the money yet.” That last sentence had some sad tone behind it. Something about it seemed to make Viza very sad.
“That’s really a shame, you know?” With a tone that could only be described as cynical, the creature issued his question before showing an evil smirk. “… Good thing I already found a buyer.”
“W-What!?” Somehow, these words had triggered an evident change in Viza. She was not only scared now, but she was also quite fretted. “No. Y-You didn’t.”
“Oh, but I did.” Slowly, Rodney started turning back and walking away from the cat. “I had the feeble hope that you had gathered the money by now, considering today was your deadline. But I can’t say I’m too surprised you didn’t. You've always been quite useless. ”
Despite the situation turning progressively more confusing for Rei, he understood quite well this cat needed to pay some amount of money she didn't have.
“R-Rodney, wait.” Viza stuttered, that distressed expression still on her face. “I-I think I was onto something. I can gather the money!” This time, it seemed like tears were about to burst off her eyes. “Please, Rodney. The Casino is my legacy. It's everything I have…”
To this, the Kiwimons giggled again.
“Oh, but the Casino is not yours. You don't even have that." He clarified. "I think I’m done giving you time, Viza. Some just don’t deserve to care for a legacy.” Rodney went on, his attitude turning a lot colder. “You’re a good-for-nothing. The only thing you’re good at is lying to others and yourself. Digimon like you don’t deserve a chance. Your lack of skills has made you unable to collect the money, therefore you don't deserve the opportunity to protect your legacy.” As Rodney spoke, Rei started clenching a fist. Being that rude... was it really called for? Why kicking someone when they're down? “I'm going to Whitewater to meet with a buyer, I will sell that Casino and you better be out of here in one hour.”
With his goons still laughing, the robotic creature started walking back towards the door, leaving a devastated Viza behind.
Right before he went through it? A voice stopped him.
“Hey. I'll buy the thing.”
Who said that? Could it be the person less qualified to do so? Someone who had literally arrived here less than an hour ago and had literally no idea of how money worked in this world?
Sadly, yes.
Taking a couple of steps forward, Rei ended up in front of Maia and closer to this digimon.
“W-What is he doing?” Boru muttered.
Rodney turned over his shoulder to look at the human addressing him. “You?” He asked, baffled. “You are going to buy the casino?”
What was Rei even thinking? Was he upset that someone, anyone, couldn’t have a chance of caring for their legacy? Was he trying to gain time just to not see Viza cry, even if he had no further plan? Or had he just convinced himself this was, in fact, a dream, and he was going to say whatever he felt like saying without caring of consequences?
Probably all of the above.
In any case, he now had Rodney’s attention. Now what?
One thing was certain: Swimming would have to wait.

Maia and Kuu had no idea what was going on, really! But, when the hut-owner seemed tense, it felt like a good idea to be prepared for the worst! The Kudamon's eyes narrowed at Rodney, listening to him talk like humans weren't. Well. Human! It wasn't really a foreign thought, admittedly. That humans were only good for strength. But, when trapping oneself with a partner of some sort, it probably wasn't the ideal mindset!
Should he say it?
It was tempting.
Somehow, he resisted.
Probably mostly because time didn't stop for Kuda-thoughts, so the topic had already continued onto if Viza was going to buy a casino. Of all things, a casino? Why did the cat want that? "This guy's so rude," the pipefox whispered to the man that he was still very much attached to. Nobody should like Rodney. Even if they just met him!
Why?
Well, Kuu didn't really know. But he seemed really rude! And that was a good enough reason, right?
Meanwhile, Maia remained completely silent. Maybe taking in the situation. Was it a subject that she should step in on? Did she care? Could she afford to? There were a lot of questions here, and none of them really warranted any comment to the situation in front of her. Main priority was to keep the digimon-less human safe, right? It was probably for the best to stay silent and hope that they'd be forgotten. Viza might not be quite as forgiving as Ela, in the way of destroying one's home out of causing fights! Especially since this one seemed avoidable.
Except, silence apparently wasn't an option. Was Rei moved by Viza's pleading? Or, was he just stupid?
Hearing Boru, the tamer could only utter, "I have no idea," in response.
And another question she couldn't give a definitive answer on was soon to come! Still attached to Rei, Kuu peered back at his own human. "Can we afford it, Mai?" Them? Buy a casino?
Maia barely even looked at her funds in the digital world! How was she to know what they had? "Depends," she responded, as non-committal as possible. They weren't poor, but they also didn't know the price on the casino! Which, in all likeliness, would be out of range for any expense they'd possibly anticipated for!
In all fairness, they probably had more money than a certain nobody-human had, in this world! But, Maia wasn't too keen on placing an offer for the moment. She'd have to wait and see how the Digimon treated the situation with Rei, first.

As Rodney inquisitively walked towards him, Rei couldn’t help but take a step back, a bit intimidated by the monster. Before the human could provide any type of answer (not that he had thought of any, in all honesty) Kuu inquired about the possibility of him and Maia buying the casino. So they had money in this world? Rei honestly had no clue.
“Rodney, they have nothing to do in this.” Viza started taking some steps towards the exchange, stopping midways when hearing Rodney’s evil voice again.
“Wait up, Viza.” He stated. “Let me talk to your human friends. They might have something I’m interested in.” The Footmon continued. “You don’t have any money, do you? So you have no place in this negotiation.”
Before such negotiation could begin, Rodney made sure to take the monetary element off the table. “However... I must say that, honestly, it doesn’t matter how much money you have, Mai.” The creature noted, his eyes trailing towards the blonde human whose name he had just learned from Kuu. “Because I’m not willing to sell the casino to you guys.”
To this statement, the group of Kiwimons behind Rodney giggled again.
Rei might have only known this digimon for some minutes, but even he could tell he was going somewhere. As a result, the human decided to remain quiet and let him go on.
“I would, however, be interested in having a couple of humans to my orders.” Rodney noted, leaning forward to look at Maia and Rei from up close. “As I told you, I have heard you guys are capable of helping digimon achieve great power. And I want just that.” Again, Boru gulped. It definitely seemed like, at some point, an idea had come to Rodney. “That being said, what better way of deciding the fate of the Casino than me putting it up as a bet against you? You know, if you’re so interested in taking it.”
Boru blinked twice. “A bet…”
“More than a bet… I would say I’ll offer you the chance to play for the casino.”
That last sentence was punctuated by a finger snap issued by the Footmon. Immediately, one of the Kiwimons rushed towards the center of the hut, making his way to the fountain that remained there. It was only then when Boru and the rest would actually understand what the ornamental structure that looked like a statue and worked as the apex of the fountain was. The sculpture had the shape of what seemed to be a monstrous hand (maybe from an Agumon or Tyrannomon?) making a coin spin on the tip of its claw. The water was actually coming out of the coin!
The Kiwimon jumped over the fountain to touch the highest point of the sculpture (the upper edge of the coin) with its peak and fell to the other side. Immediately, the whole place started shaking. As the whole structure trembled, the lack of windows left what could be happening outside only to the imagination of everyone occupying the hut. Viza let out a long sigh as the situation developed.
After approximately 30 seconds, this mysterious earthquake had stopped. And… for some reason? It felt like they were now occupying a very different place. Slowly, it all seemed to start making sense on Rei’s head just now.
“W-What just happened!?” Boru asked aloud, walking towards the only door of the hut and kicking it open. Upon doing this, the Psychemon would gasp. Everything outside had changed!! “Where are we now!?”
It was then when everything started clicking inside Rei. A coin… Viza’s hut...
The human’s eyes trailed down towards the self-proclaimed witch. “We… we were always at the casino, weren’t we?”
The Blackgatomon nodded.
What had Boru found to be surrounding their hut now? How had the outsides of the hut changed?
